Saw this link on the thread about the European Cruises. Thought everyone here may be interested. Great article about the 2007 DL Paris (or is that Euro Disney now :confused3 )
http://dnn.chrismedia.co.uk/topstory.htm
Thanks for posting that link! For years I've wondered just what year it was I was there last...Fifth anniversary!....1997....2007, here I come!

Good to see you Lynda!!!

Hey Lynda, very good point there.
I went all day yesterday without any narcotics, did use them to sleep last night so I see this as a good sign.
Kelli, our dogs would be great on the Iditarod only if they thought there was a treat at the finish line.
Going a little stir crazy here at home, will get back to light duty next week. Too much snow still to get out for a walk, without the fear of slipping and starting all over. .

That's our dogs, too! Although when we started downsizing, Cassidey starting getting picky!! It's like she knows the little ones don't eat that much!! :goodvibes
Be careful of the snow and ice! ALl our snow got worn away by the wind...in the 40's most of this week, but fairly windy, too. Maybe you should start a sickness blog..... :rotfl2: Or maybe Lynn will let you take over the scrapbooking!!!

Hey did anyone see the Universal TV add where the little girl says something to the effect “ If I have to meet another Princes I am going to puke”, or was this the percocet making me experience things.
:shamrock: :shamrock: :shamrock: :shamrock: :shamrock: Happy St Patty's Day.

I finally saw it!!! But the term was "hurl", or however its spelled....it wasn't the drugs....
I think we finally got in our region, but another group has been talking about it for a while now...

Hurl vs. Puke,I was close. I still thought it was funny. I must admit I really relate to the Disney Comercial about the kids that are too excited to sleep.

Scott,
I'm so glad you're doing better! We saw that ad.... it's typical of Universal, rude and obnoxious!
If you want to warm up, where there is no ice, but a slick pool deck, you know where to go...lol... BTW, it was 86 here yesterday!

Okay... so we just wanted to see if there was a brig and what it looked like!!:cool1: It reminded us a lot of the Walt Suite. :rotfl: The carpet is now damaged and we are thinking that it will be put up for auction on a future cruise... hopefully one of the looooooong voyages in 2007. ;) ;) We tried to hide in the lifeboat suite but the chairs would not fit thru the door. I think they now have gps locator chips so they know where the chairs are at all times.
We did see an interesting presentation on the Adventures by Disney... Scott are you going to be one of the wilderness guides for the Wyoming Adventure??? I can't imagine what would keep you there for 4 more years if it wasn't Disney.......
We had absolutely fantastic weather and we have the sunburn to prove it. :thumbsup2

Yeah, glad you are back, the Wyoming Disney Adventure that will be available here could be put together for about 1/2 the cost. There were employment adds in our local paper last summer. I did notice a boo boo in their brocure, saw it at DL after the repo cruise, that is geographically impossiable. Then again that may explain the price. Did read the internest info and they said the climate temps would be in the 70-80's during the day and 40's at night. We have seen snow here every month of the year.
I am sure they will do a good job and I know which motor coach company they will be using. I guess knowing the area the price seems rather high.
They mention Brooks lake Lodge, and it is a wonderful place, When we camp in that area I bring the .44 cal and 12 ga Bear Spray.
Makes me want to print up Maps to the Stars Homes and sell them on the street corner.LOL
I am surprised you all did not draw and quarter a crew member for info on future DCL offerings.

:thanks: THANKS FOR THE ANNIVERSARY WISHES! :thanks:
We're back and had a wonderful celebration. :cloud9: One highlight was a surprise for Joe...
we booked the pixiedust: Breathless pixiedust: fireworks cruise.
It was worth every penny. Our driver was the guy who drove the Breathless for the cover shoot on the DCL Welcome Home publication. We had done the pontoon boat before, but this was quite a notch up for us, and it was just perfect.
If we get the repro cruise :boat:to Europe we're hoping for, we'd like to book this again the night before... the boat holds 7... ;) It would be fun to get a group thing going!!! :jumping1:
Renae...so sorry we missed you. :sad2: I gave you my wrong work e-mail (just hurrying too much before I left). Next time for sure!!!

BLL is where we went in Feb '05 for our snowmobile trip! Absolutely beautiful under 10 feet of snow. We snowmobiled on the lake while they got our table for 20 ready.
We're trying to get an overnight trip arranged where they don't want $1500 per person, but so far it ain't happening.
Guess 10 feet of snow is a good thing, we don't have a supplier for bear spray. Although, between Julie and Cathy, our guide, I'd feel safe with them between a bear and me!!

Hi Bob and Lee,
We like Whispering Canyon too, as well as Boma for breakfast, at the AKL, at DD we love Planet Hollywood and the one that looks like a boat. Great seafood! We also like O'hana at the Poly and Olivia's at Old Key West.
The food court at Port Orleans is really good. I love their philly cheese steak sandwiches, and Eric loves their ribs. Of course, beignets are the yummiest dessert!
Off property, we love Joe's crab shack and Macaroni grill, they're just up Apopka-Vineland from DTD and easy to get to. We also go to the chain stores, but Cracker Barrel is one of our favorites there!
hope that helps!

Joe's Crab Shack and Cracker Barrel are awesome in any state!!! I won a Tshirt at the one outside WDW, though! It has a special place in my heart!!!
Off to work, first day of spring with 10 inches of snow!! Welcome to Wonderful Wyoming!!!

Hi Bob! Now that we're back :cold: , we want to go again... especially with the 85 degree weather! :sunny:
Joe + I love Jiko and Boma. This trip we ate at Living Seas and The Brown Derby, both were wonderful. Artist Point is great too. We took the Keys of the Kingdom MK Tour and had lunch at the Harbor House. Our sandwiches were good. Of course, in EPCOT there's the Cheddar Cheese Soup in Canada! :thumbsup2 Downtown there's The Earl of Sandwich. Joe wants to try the Noodle Station in MK the next time we go down.
Gee, it sounds like all we do at WDW is eat! :rotfl2:

WE'RE HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had such a blast on our cruise with Leslie & Joe.....
First...who would have "thunk" that booking late would get us rooms side by side....as Scott would say....TOO KEWL
The weather was incredible...every day sunshine and high 80's....and I actually have the sunburn to prove that I was in the Quiet Cove pool and Serenity Bay.....not to mention the sunburn on the tops of my feet from walking on the beach at Serenity Bay (ouch!!)....we arrived home tonight to 28ºF :cold:
It was sooooo much fun to be recognized by staff and crew as being Panama Canal cruisers...but it was very strange to walk down the hall or look to the next table in the dining room and NOT see "lanyard people"
For anyone cruising on the Magic in the near future.....you will LOVE the changes....the new couples villas at the spa are so luxurious.....and the new workout area is super KEWL....all the treadmills face the windows and they all have their own TV's....and yes Kelli...."Mr. Whiteshirt" was there and yes...he remembered me....scary!!!!!
The Dive-in theatre (or Dumbotron, as some call it)....is the best....DCL played Pirates in the Caribbean on it after the Pirates party and I thought how much fun it would have been to have had the "big" screen on the Panama Canal cruise....
The food was incredible.......I think the shows were too but we didn't see any of them because we were too busy relaxing by the pool!!!!!
Let's see...what am I forgetting to tell you guys??????? oh yeah...some embarrassing stories...but as Leslie says.....

ps. International Housewares show in Chicago was amazing too! My feet hurt for days after all the walking. Nothing really too unique or new that caught my eye though. Maybe just Rocco from "The Restaraunt" selling his new pots and pans and 5 spice assortment.

Hello everyone!
I have kind of fallen off of the planet after working nights! I have finally reoriented myself to sleeping at night and I am finally getting everything together.
I am getting excited for DCL to announce their new plans for 2007 tomorrow. I tried getting my sister to go to Epcot tomorrow to hear the announcement, but currently they only have one car- and her husband needs it for work. However, I am going to make her watch the local TV stations around the time of the announcement and make her call me if there is any news. I'm super excited...I feel like a little kid.
I completed my first outside run yesterday- which was a 5K run/walk in Chicago. I did okay and met my goal. I am looking forward for it to get warmer here so I can do more running outside. I should actually say walking- as I only run part of the time. I met some people from the arthritis foundation that did the WDW half marathon this past January- it was fun to talk to them. Has anyone other than me signed up? I think Ken and Shari have, right? Anyone else?
Currently I am on "spring break" which translates into house cleaning after finals. :rotfl2: I start school again next Monday with physiology and palliative care. Physiology will be really hard and I am not looking forward to it as I perceive this as the class that will kill my GPA.
Kendra- you pictures were really cute! No wonder you have been so busy!
Elaine- I missed all of your posts while you were gone. I was really hoping that we would hear more from you guys. Looking forward to the pictures!
Renae- My sis went to the ward on Sunday and didn't see you in RS- were you there?
Kelli- I was up in Burlington a lot this past weekend and even stayed in Waterford. Robb is playing in the band for the Catholic HS production of West Side Story that will be starting this weekend. I kept on thinking of Etta and you. Robb and I will be having dinner in Burlington tomorrow night as he has a rehearsal and I have a meeting at Aurora at 6pm.
Scott- Did you start back at work with light duty?
Steve- MORE BABY PICTURES!

Hey Celeste.. you didn't hear from us because Joe and Mom banned us from getting the internet package... they figured we'd be online constantly... and they are probably right... ;) the internet cafe and Cove Cafe stations were almost always empty. :rotfl: We lucked out and found a mexican internet place in Costa Maya... and snuck in there to post. Too bad most of the computers were not working and the foreign keyboard freaked us out!!
I'm sure Elaine will give a nice trip report... I stopped writing in my book sometime during day 2..... I was too busy drinking flammable beverages........:rotfl2: :drinking1
The Dumbotron is fabulous... they changed the Pirate Deck party a bit too because of it and it's great. pirate: New bandannas!!! The spa villas are incredible... but $$$$$$$$$ Great offer on first day during the tour though if you're wanting to try them. New fitness area is very very nice... although I doubt the officers on the bridge enjoy the noise overhead. :teeth: I actually pedaled some miles a few days before retiring to the rainforest room. :cheer2: Rainforest Room 6 out of the 7 days! :cheer2: Now THAT'S a relaxing cruise!!!
Kendra- WOW that looks like a great show and a major production! Very cute pics!!

Elaine, yes Way KEWL having rooms next door. Remember what stays with lanyard people , well you get the idea. It was great to hear about you all being remembered by the crew. Yes photos please.
Kendra , thanks for sharing.
Celeste, yep back to work, they are being great, I have plenty to do so am not bored at all. Did my first Phys Therapy today, passive and it really felt good to get out of the sling and swath. If ya need help with the supraspinatus muscle stuff for physiologypart let me know. LOL . Maybe that is more anatomy, but I am learning how that puppy works.

Renae- I am guessing that the announcement will come out around 11:30 as it is being done by Tom A. in world showcase. If you go- make sure you post!
Thanks for the pictures Elaine!
Leslie- you mean your families wanted you to spend time away from your Disfamily? I can't understand why.... :badpc:

I did not take my fish extender with me...I was too scared of someone "stealing" it...since our room was right near the new Ocean Quest lab on Deck 2.....

Not that I was keeping track or writing this stuff down..but it appears that someone at DCL idn't either fall back or spring forward the clock...we actually arrived at the terminal at 10:35..after a 30 minute stop at Wally World.

WATERFORD!?!?!? Did you eat at Granny's?!?!?! Etta swears by the patty melt!! She eats 1/2 and takes the other half home for dinner. I like the garbage omelet, nasty name, but great meal. Take my other half home also!! Next door is the stained glass store. We have to at least window shop every time we go!!! Yeah, Waterford!!!

I may ask you those questions later....this is more on the cellular level for this quarter. ATP, Potassium and Calcium exchanges in the heart- etc. Doing the math to do the logs for the amounts of solutes in such exchanges.....lots of study time for me!

No, I don't know where that is. We stayed at the Baymont Inn on 36, behind the McDonalds- up the road from the Wal-Mart. Other than that, I don't know where anything is in Waterford. I know there is a stained glass place in Burlington now- which used to be stamp store that I liked....

It's about a guarantee that they will be live at the announcement! I'll post as soon as I get off the phone with Eric to tell him the news! First one in the med for us!!!!!!
BTW, we're getting really excited for our Alaska cruise in just 59 days! The cruise critic boards are very slow and low key compared to the Dis, but I've found out some good info for our family group. Should be one heck of an adventure! I wish I could take all of you with me...I can just imagine 300 Dis'ers taking over a HAL ship....ROFL!

Gotcha beat on temp, (3º or 1º, depending on who you listen to) but our blood hasn't seen WARM for a while so it's just another cold week. 13+ inches of snow, we could do without, though. The only good news, we're actually on the plus side of moisture for the first time in MANY years. Maybe those wildfires won't be a problem this summer! And just think, March and April are our snowiest months!!

Since we booked the Panama Canal late...these prices are in line with what we paid....of course you do have to factor in airfare back from Barcelona....I'm thinking I may try for the May Repo.....
I also called DCL - Castaway Club to confirm when they will start booking the cruises....I spoke to a really nice CM who told me that bookings start April 4th but they are not sure what time they will be available. She also told me that if you currently have a reservation you can "switch" it, but depending on the deposit amount, you may have to add to your current deposit amount.
While I think the 10 and 11 night itineraries sound exciting...I think it is too many port days in a row and I understand it is VERY hot in the Mediterranean in the summer so I am concerned about Mom and I being very exhausted from being on the go and with the heat.
What is everyone else thinking???????

I just watched Tom McAlpin's interview on the news and he just said that the Magic will go over to the Med, but no dates or ports... bummer!
However, I looked in my 'special' spot online and found the ports listed...here they are:
The Disney Magic will depart from Barcelona, Spain in the summer of 2007 and will stop at the following ports:
-- Palermo, Sicily
-- Naples, Italy, with access to Pompeii
-- Olbia, Sardinia
-- Civitavecchia, Italy, with access to Rome
-- La Spezia, Italy, with access to Florence and Pisa
-- Marseille, France
-- Villefranche , France
It doesn't say a lot about prices, but it does say the 10-11 day alternating Med cruises start at $2,399. That's the best I can do for now...

I'm booking the 14 day eastbound. Robert will be coming, just because I have him booked on it too!
I think those "disboard" people will drive Rachel and crew nuts after 6 days in a row at sea.
And if I want to go down the Mickey slide, does that mean I can get the rate for a 6-12 year old?

I LOVE the pin line... but you're not in your PJ's! ;)
I'm thinking the Med cruises are out for us.
I've never really had the desire to cruise Europe. Just too much ground to cover with only a day in each port. Of course this is coming from someone who felt like 30 days on the continent was not nearly enough and just barely skimmed the surface.
If I had plenty of extra $$$ laying around... I'd sure give it a try though.
The 10 and 11 day itineraries do sound pretty exhausting to me.
I'd love to do one of the repos - but don't think it will be happening for us in 2007.
Remind me again... exactly how important is it really to send the kids to college? ;)
I'll be watching to see who books what and will definitely be looking for your trip reports though.

Drove to Florida in record time and arrived in time to get in a few hours at the parks (had to say we visited the parks before our cruise!!!!!!!!!!!)
Saturday March 11....after a few short hours of sleep (Leslie & I)....Mom, Leslie, Joe and I boarded the Magic....
Saturday March 18....had to leave the Magic behind after 7 glorious days of fun, sun and lots of laughter.....I'd love to share more but....

We are hoping for the Eastbound Repro BUT the $ is more than we were hoping for... Joe wants a balcony. I would settle for a window view. Cost will be our decision factor.
Sure would be great to be with everyone again! How is it in Cat 11 or 12... besides no window... would you be okay with 6 days at sea???
I was hoping for a stop in Bermuda before leaving for Europe... and an excursion to DL Paris...
We'll see. We have to wait til the 4th...

Hi everybody,
Do you remember our funny sideways cabin from the repo? That was a cat. 11 and it really wasn't bad... except that the bed rocked from head to foot instead of side to side... that was weird till we turned it sideways. We love the verandah, but if it means going or not going, I wouldn't mind doing that again. It does only have a single bathroom, and that wasn't as fun as the split ones... Oh we are so spoiled!!!! LOL... I was surprised by the cost of the Med cruises too, and there won't be any Florida Resident Discounts on that one! Oh well....I wonder if we could buy a second house in Italy before then... RIGHT!!!!

We will book the category 11 on deck 6. Didn't know if I'd like it or not, but when we did it on the PC and I paid for mom and dad's room too, I couldn't justify the extra cost for the verandah. It wasn't bad and about the only time we were in the stateroom was when we changed clothes or didn't sleep out in pin lines! :rotfl2:
Besides, with all those sea days, I'm going to be using Kelli's verandah (or my Cash's) and eating BBQ out there. Just don't know who I'll be waving too though.
My suggestion......make a window wall decoration and put it up in your stateroom above the headboard, then you can pretend you are looking out your window and with the money you will save you can play more BINGO!

I like the idea of the 6 sea days- and the ports on the repo are to places I have never been...and one I hadn't even heard of.
The 11 night looks fun- but I think I would need a vacation after my vacation- too many stops in a row. That was what I was most dissappointed about. Also, I have been to most of the Italian spots on the med cruise.
Anybody been to Barcelona-better bring you CASH!!!
But, on that note- we'll probably book both and see what happens.

When are you doing Alaska, and what cruise line are you using?
Guess what everybody? I've been looking at some fancy lenses and things to use in Alaska, and Eric just found them on Ebay, the whole thing, lenses, filters, big& small tripods etc. for only $65!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't want to pay what Canon wanted, at over $500, I could almost do a cruise....lol! But for that price, I'm going to get some great whale pix...instead of lots of ocean and sky with little dots on it that might be whales...

We are planning Tanzania for Jan/Feb 2007, retire June 2007 (that is 62 weeks away if anyone is interested) , then who knows. I would like to bring the Magic back but don’t think that will be in the plans. We will see if we have any DVC points left We have talked about just staying in WY for the summer of 2007, just to do some of the things we never seem to have or make the time to do. Maybe that driving trip to Alaska in the camper. Maybe building in Florida?

Amazing. Well, not really. When we took our grandson on a cruise, we flew on Delta. The ticket agent suggested that he get a FF number. Oh Oh. Now he receives an app from American Express about every 6 months offering a "Blue Card".

Celeste, BTW, are you still planning a pre-cruise mini-meet memorial day?
Funny you mention this because I just wrote Peter & Tracy an email about this....
I think something will be put together- just probably not at my house, unless a large amount of people decide to come. I may potentially have to do something on that Friday and I get into town Thursday night from California.
I think something will be done- I just don't know what or where. If we were to do Chicago we could go to the Disney store, the Rainforest Cafe, and the ghiradelli shop. If we were to do Gurnee area we could do Six Flag and the Gurnee Mills Mall- which has a new Disney store that just opened. If we were to do Milwaukee we could do the zoo, a museum, and hang out by the lakefront, and there is a great cuban place. If we did Madison- we could do what ever Tracy suggests, but there is a great scrapbooking place and the lakes there are beautiful.
ARE PEOPLE INTERESTED OR SHOULD WE DO IT LATER IN THE SUMMER?

Ok friends, :sunny: I am considering a Category 8 stateroom for the Eastbound Repo - on my 3 other trips I had a verandah.
What can anyone tell me about them and any pics if you have them! It saves a bunch of $$ over a Cat 6. I MUST  have an outside window and a Cat 9 is toooo low and portholes are too small.

Ditto Debbie! Joe and I were discussing price last night. He really wants a verandah, but there's still airfare and port excursions to consider. We're now looking at Cat 8, maybe half with points...
We're even okay with not going because of the cost. I'm not yet convinced that DCL will take steps to make the cruise "special" for the repro group. Not that our group won't make it special enough! ;) BUT... we have until the 4th to decide!

Kelli,
I hear you, we've never done Alaska before either, and I'm doing a lot o research on the ports. We decided on HAL after looking at all the other ships because it's a little smaller ship, at 55,000 tons, so it can get closer to the glaciers. Also because the cabins are bigger and it's supposed to be better food and service. JMO. I just picked up Fodor's Alaska 2006, and it has a lot of good info on all the ports and excursions that are offered. There is also a load of info on the cruise critic boards!

I have stayed in a cat. 8 twice- this is also what we are considering for the repo over. It is exactly the same room, except you have a large round window rather than a verandah. I would like a verandah, but with all of the sea days- it just doesn't make sense for us. I would rather use the extra $1000.00 on the next cruise or other goodies. We'll see what happens. If you have specific questions, you can PM me.
I probably have pictures, but wouldn't be able to find them until next week as I am doing 7 back to backs at work, which equals little free time- and you will be able to find them on the internet sooner than that. I believe on the cabins with the verandah- that they actually include the space of the verandah in the square footage- because they seemed exactly the same size to me.

No, the windows are not as big as the ones in the atrium- that would be like the size of the whole wall in your cabin. That would be fun- stand naked in front of that :rotfl2: :thumbsup2 I would guess the window is between 2.5 to 3 feet from top to bottom.

Okay, so on the DVC website they have the points posted for the cruise. For a category 11 (inside stateroom) which for Robert and I (without Jamie) works just fine, it is 287 points each (574 total). So, we will probably use points for this cruise I am thinking since it comes to $6.97 per point. Remember, you can bank, use, and borrow so you could use three years at one time.
Like Scott said, DVC has been very good to us also. We added on 250 points on the member cruise last September and we are now going to Hong Kong on DVC and get length of stay passes to get into Hong Kong Disney and all hotel accomodations at the Disneyland Hotel there. We had to cover airfare, but I used FF mileage. So far, this Hong Kong trip out the door May 4 has not cost anything.
I will also be using FF mileage for the repo to the east med. Since we bought in originally in 1994, I can say for us it has been KEWL. And, if you work the points to your advantage, you can make them stretch farther.
Let's see
11 day September 2006 cruise-points ($75 exchange fee)
4 day October 2006 member cruise (with so many free giveaways, it's incredible)-points for Robert, Jamie and I ($75 exchange fee)

If you are visiting EPCOT, on a one-park pass, can you take the monorail to the Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian or Polynisian Resort to shop and or eat?
Seem to remember about some item at is exclusive to the Contemporary. Would anyone know what that possibly could be?

 Bob, riding the monorail should be fine regardless of passes. People take the monorail in and then buy their passes at Guest Relations once at the parks. Cast members never check.

You might want to post your question on the DVC board....Seaulater (Linda) posted the information on our thread about the points because a lot of people on the original REPO cruise are DVC members.

Not easy as they are considered seperate, so if ya made a cash res you would have to make a seperate DVC res and then cancel the cash res. It has been done but there were special cirumstances. We did this for the May repo cruise.
Maybe not the best logic but you could consider taking the amount one would pay for the cruise and buy DVC, use the points for the cruise, and then have the points for the duration of your DVC contract.
Joe and Leslie Congrats KEWL. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Seaulater: Can you (or someone else) explain whether signing up for the DVC now would have any benefit in terms of paying for a Mediteranean cruise? Thank You!
Here's my answer:
If you love Disney and plan on continuing, then I think in the long run the answer is "yes". Do not plan on an immediate return, but over the term of the contract you would see a definite savings as well as you would be able to sell you contract at some point if you decided not to continue to use it.
Disney always has the first right of refusal to purchase back your contract.
I spent some time yesterday figuring out the difference between paying cash for Disney cruises at today's rates vs. using DCL points for a variety of categories and a variety of cruises. The savings over the entire contract with DVC by far outweigh paying cash for the cruises. And granted, the points may increase over time, but then, so would the cash prices with Disney. Also, remember, at your home resort the points cannot change over the contract, so in terms of staying at your home resort, inflation will occur, but your points won't. Also on DCL points you do not pay the port charges and taxes, only a $75 exchange fee.
What I have done in the past is make a cash reservation to get the best price and then at the 11 month window, called DVC to book with points. You make a separate reservation with DVC and while you are on hold on the telephone they call DCL and then come back and give you confirmation information.
Then, I have to call DCL myself and cancel the cash reservation.
In this case, the 11 month window is waived and DVC will begin taking reservations on April 4th at the same time the cash reservations open. What I plan on doing is immediately get on the internet or phone and call DCL directly and get a cash reservation in and then call DVC to book with points. I don't think I'll have a problem (never have in the past) and I'm sure I'll get my reservation done with points.
As soon as you begin your purchase process with DVC, within 24 hours you can use your points. Right now they are giving you points starting with Oct. 2005 however, your maintenance fees don't start until the date you agree to purchase. In addition, this can all be done via telephone or email as per my vacation advisor yesterday (I was checking for another one of my disboard friends). The price is going up on points April 1.
If you want further information, PM me, I'm happy to share my "unscientific" analysis of the value of your membership and the different ways to use it. I have been told I should make a guidebook on how to use DVC to your advantage since I seem to be able to get the most value out of my membership and the different ways I use it.
If anyone else is interested in my analysis, PM me and I'll send you over some food for thought.
We did buy at Old Key West in 2004, but we just recently added 250 points to our membership so we have bought at a lower price and then now at the current price.
My two cents worth!

If you buy in RIGHT NOW, (that is, there is a price per point increase on April 1), you can get $98 per point less $8 per point for a net of $90. PLUS you will get points awarded from October, 2005.
SO-say you want to go on the 14 day repo, category 11. 287 points. In reality, if you bought only 200 points ($90 x 200=$18,000) you would get to use points for October, 2005 (bank), October 2006 (use), and October 2007 (borrow) and with only 10% down ($1,800) you could do the Med. cruise and it would cost you the $75 exchange fee PLUS no port charges or taxes.
Maintenance fees per year would cost you $796 right now. And they don't start until you initiate the contract, but you get the points from Oct. 2005.
Go on about 4 cruises in the next 10 years, and you will have paid for your membership, but you will also get the points every year until 1/31/54. Plus if you ever wanted to sell you could probably get alot of it back with the way points keep going up in price.
Just a fair warning-points are going up April 1. The DVC sales person can do everything via email or fax and you get your points awarded within 24 hours of when you initiate the paperwork. I know someone that actually just did this between yesterday and today.
Hate to tell you guys this, but I'm sure Scott will also agree. We have never regretted our decision into buying our initial points (nor any of the add ons). We have done so many cruises and trips to WDW on points, and it sure has been nice not to get out that credit card to pay for any of that stuff when we are at the mousehouse!
If you are thinking about joining DVC do it this week so you can use points next week to book the Med Cruises. I talked to DVC this morning and they will open at 8 a.m. EST April 4 which coincides with DCL opening the lines for reservations.
Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now!

At first I was disappointed by the ports. But the more I looked at them and talked with a friend, these ports are not the "normal" places to travel to. They are a bit more exclusive than what the Med cruises are doing. It is "easier" to travel to Italy than it is to Cadiz, Canary Islands and Gibraltar.
Several people have said to me that you can do this much cheaper. But even they said, you will be with friends and that is alot!
We are not adventurous travellers. Having three ports, and nice ones after some research, Disney makes it easy for me. Just like Tom McAlpin said, we want to make it easy for our guests. I will get my feet wet with European travel. If I like it, another trip that is less expensive can be in my future.
The price is the bigger issue. But as long as it does not go into the stratosphere, I will go on the May repo cruise. Yes it is priced alot higher than other lines, but I know what to expect and that is a huge thing for me.
Using DVC points to pay for the cruise was an option for a little bit, but I just do not have enough of them to cover it. Maybe next time ;)

Is anyone watching The Apprentice??????
They are showcasing Norweigan Cruise Line's new ship "The Jewel" which is absolutely incredible....Mom commented "I wonder how much it costs to cruise"....so I checked out their site and found a 14 night transatlantic cruise leaving from Miami to Barcelona April 30, 2006....the itinerary is incredible with stops in the Azores, Portugal, Rome, Florence, Nice and Barcelona....the price of this cruise is 1/2 the cost of DCL....granted you don't have the Disney Magic but for 1/2 the price Mom and I might look into cruising NCL in the future just to see what it is like....

We have cruised NCL and did not like it at all. I guess we are spoiled by the personalized service we receive on DCL. With freestyle dining, you never have the same waiter more than once, so every night you are repeating what you want when you sit down, whereas I know on DCL that from night one when I tell them what I want to drink, or how I like my food prepared, I never have to explain again. Also, we found that when we went to dinner nightly, we always had to wait outside for 15-20 minutes to be seated because there was a long line up of people. You couldn't get lobster in the main dining room. You had to go to one of the others where they charge you a $10 cover fee for person. Anyway, we weren't impressed. Doubt we will ever go on NCL again (unless someone gave me a free trip!)

whilst the excitment of visiting europe is to be expected, please be aware that some of the ports of call can be a little surprising..eg tenerife..
this is a major vacation destination for holiday makers from the uk, holland and germany.
the centre of the island is very steep and infact is an inactive volcano (mt teide) The north of the island can be very wet and the south sheltered side can be very hot and dry.
It has been alleged that the island is very over developed and that time share building and selling is the islands major industry!!
Heavy drinking/partying is not unknown amongst the many bars and clubs. Whilst the drinking age on the ship may be 21 in spain its a lot lower. In fact sometimes it seems that bar owners will sell to anyone that can hold a glass.
Further information is of course available on the web. an example of the sort of holidays offered by uk holiday companys can be found at www.thomson.co.uk
All in all I would not make tenerife my number one destination..thats why I come to Florida.
PS.. if you get to Italy and consider a car hire,, remember that Italians are known all over Europe for their style of driving (This is the home of Ferrari!!) and most cars available for hire will be very small by US Standards and will almost certainly be manual gear box.

Yep - I got called today at about 4:00 pm. Asked me which one i wanted to do, took all the information and then asked for my credit card info.
They even are asking for passport numbers at the time ressies are taken now.
Funny thing, I HAVE NOT put in my name for contact as of yet. Do not know how I got called. I choose the room and everything. I had to tell the agent that I had to confirm with my other parties I would be traveling with to see what was final for all of us.
Still not sure what to do and which one to take yet.
For cat. 11, in handicap rm. - 6147 - which I usually am given, it was $3,500 pp, dble occupancy. Deposit was $500 pp.
Have no idea how my name got on the list. Very confusing

Kay....how cool that you got on the Unofficial/Offical Waitlist and didn't even know it!!!!!

If you really want to know, here is what I posted on the Costa website. My first Costa and my last Costa cruise.
Crusing on the Magic on June 10th (7 day) with 3Dan and his family - I'll be in heaven again
HERE GOES:
We boarded the ship without any problem whatsoever. Probably due to my scooter and they took us out of the line and we were the 2nd family that boarded.
We were the first to leave the ship also, due to the scooter, most probably. We left on a different deck than the regular passengers also. Not crowded at all. I have to give them credit for that.
I did speak with several others and they complained about standing in the line to check in for over 1-1/2 hours and more. I didn't have to go thru that.
There was lots of help from porters in the terminal.
I AM BACK.................... and glad to be back
ZERO QUALITY ON THIS SHIP - Costa Magica
BUT - she is beautiful and we didn't even get to see all of her - she is hugh and really beautiful
Even with the low prices and specials, don't waste your time or energy or money
I doubt if there is hardly anyone who books a second time. Soon they will run out of people
............. we booked a hdcp room. GUESS WHAT - as Bill said - it was designed to MAKE YOU HANDICAPPED, IF YOU WEREN'T ALREADY . lol
It was a room with BUNK BEDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! go figure.................
I was eventually told that it was a room for one person. I in not certain words let guest services know that they had all of our information beforehand and this should not have happened.
The first night they brought in a roll a way bed --------------
the 2nd day they did move us to another room with an upgrade and it was nice there
Not one show was over 30 minutes in duration
Our room keys had to be validated each day - that was a pain to keep going down to guest services to get a new key - your keys have too much information about you on it, if you were to lose it
The internet is 50 cents per minute and it takes about 8 minutes to get signed on and very, very slow. I went on and sent two e-mails and it ws $14.50. No flat fee for the internet. I didn't use the Internet after that
Food was never, never hot at any meal. You eat in the same dining room each night. There are several buffets all over the ship, so that was good.
We wanted prime rib one night when it wasn't on the menu and we could not get it. On other cruise lines I have always been able to do this.
Each and every time an announcement was made, it was done in 5 or 6 languages right in a row and it got to be really unacceptable listening to all that. Even at Bingo and the shows.
SMOKING is not controlled on the ship either. There were no smoking signs at the eating tables outside on the decks and people would sit down and smoke anyways. It even came thru the cabin walls.
The kids would go in the adult pool and no one would say anything to them. Even the adults that were in the pool. They would just get out and sunbath.
My camera broke and the lens would not open on the 2nd day. I took it to the photo shop and asked them if they knew anything that could be done to fix it. They wanted me to buy a new camera and when I wouldn't, after that, they would not even look at us when we would go back to look at the pics. We didn't have anymore made either and only bought one each of me and one of Harry. We have too many from other cruises anyways.
None of the crew would smile as you walk around. They would actually keep walking and not even say anything to you. JUST NOT WHAT WE ARE USED TO WHEN WE CRUISE.
I have been on many cruise ships including QE and QE2, RCL, NCL, Celebrity and DISNEY. Now Celebrity owns Costa, so that surprised me very much.
It is probably a good thing I wasn't on Princess this week, as she is the one that caught fire and one person passed away from it. Horrible thing to happen.
Here is the site: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11975460/
Never, never have I complained about a cruise or given a negative with one of the questionnaires.
Of course, being an Italian ship, the crew was basically Italian and they spoke all the languages. But they are originating in the US and should cater to us. Everyone pretty much spoke English but wouldn't 'cause the crew spoke to them in their language
One good thing is that the last two days of the cruise, we were able to give housekeeping all of our clothes and they washed and folded everything for us for a flat fee of $19.99 and all we had to do is put them in the suitcase and when we got home, they were ready to be put back in the drawers or on the shelf. That was very nice.
Sort of like WIFE SWAP :rotfl2:
I did meet quite a few people on the cruise and that was very nice. Several of them live pretty close to me and we'll probably be cruisin again with each other. There was a group of us of about 35 or so and we had a meet and greet and that was very nice.
SO THERE -----------------------

We were talking about that while onboard. Supposedly she was PG by a crew member and he didn't want her to keep/have the baby so she jumped overboard. The ship did a search and rescue and did find her. She was OK - I think it was two weeks ago before our cruise.
Actually the ship missed a port because of it.
Edited to add: a crew member in the dining room told us this

Wow....I wonder if that is another case....We heard on one of our news programs that during spring break.....this 15 year old was served underage and was drunk and "fell" overboard from her family's verandah at the aft of the ship....the program even had copies of the bar invoices and her signature was readable on the first two and by the 5th one it was a scribble.

60 beautiful sunny degrees here in Central Florida.
Sorry to hear about the snow up north and west. :lmao:
Been great here so far. Met Webray (Cheryl & Bob) over the weekend. Good time with them. Yes, Elaine, we cheated on the Mouse and went to City Walk.
Have been to the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom so far. Epcot tomorrow.
Last night we ate at Whispering Canyon. It was good, but not as crazy as we thought it would be. Today it is off to the Grand Floridian as Lee wants one of these.

Hi guys,
Kay,
I've heard that Costa is awful, now I believe it. Unfortunately, nobody told the management of Creating Keepsakes Magazine... They're doing a cruise with a lot of scrapbook classes... it would be fun, but not on this cruise line!!!
Bob and Lee,
Did you ask for ketchup????? ROFL!!!!!
Laurie,
Give Ashley and Karen a hug from us! We miss them a lot!
I got my new telephoto lens ect. yesterday, and while I was taking a picture of the sunset with the camera resting on the fence by the lake, the lens FELL OFF THE CAMERA, ACROSS THE FENCE!!!.... I need to fix that before it happens in frigid Alaska seawater! I got it back and cleaned it, but that was scary. No, I didn't jump the fence, I got a long-legged maintenance man to do it... the joys of apartment living!!! Yeah!!!!
Hey, does anyone have the lyrics to the songs from Twice Charmed? I'm doing a 15 page scrapbook layout of it and I need the lyrics. I can watch Tony's DVD, but it would be easier if someone had it written down somewhere.... If anybody wants to see my scrapbook pages, email me or PM me and I'll send you the link to Snapfish. I've got about 3" of scrapbook done with more pages coming every day!

Leslie! Any wedding planning yet?

GOOD NEWS FROM NJ!!! Yesterday my project FINALLY made the move to a new upgraded server. :cool1: Yes, I know, this is not the stuff dreams are made of, :surfweb: but... these past few months have been anything BUT calm. It feels good to say it's done. My victory may be short lived, but at least we made it happen.

But, that would take real Disney Magic and LOTS of pixie dust. pixiedust: Right now, I'm healthy and I would choose that anyday.
Just wanted to share this long-awaited victory with my friends!

Hey Georgie,
Will you be here long enough for us to meet up? We get back from the Alaska cruise on June 1st at about midnight... it's going to be a long trip, almost as long as the repo! In fact, we get off on the 28th, same as the repo, and we leave here on the 19th, almost as early as last year...
Whoever goes on EE, tell us how it is. We don't do rollercoasters, so that's not one of our possibilities, and our kids haven't been on it yet... Every once in a while, when the wind is right we do hear screams, though....lol!

Sorry, I've been at work for the past few days. However, I did get the email today and I am having a heart attack over the prices! Very costly for a cat 8 going on the 14 day and a cat 6 for the first Med. The price for the first 11 night is double of our 11 night in the Southern Car. in Sept. :guilty: I'm trying to decide what we are going to do. We use my salary for vacations and it would require LOTS of saving or OT on my behalf. I'm thinking about it- we have until the 2nd to do the deposit....

I think this whole "unofficial - official waitlist that was cut off and was not really available to everyone anyway" thing is very unfair. I can see taking a waitlist for the Cats 1, 2 and 3. But I don't think it's appropriate to do it for the other Cats. and I don't think it was appropriate to have it open for a while and then close it off!
However, I will still be on the phone at 5:00am (pacific time) on April 4.

From what I can tell you from what I am seeing from my pricing and from what I know of someone who booked a cat 3- that the repo cruise was at midlevel pricing- on Monday and that the first 11 night was already at the high tier of pricing.
I just spoke to Robb, either I will be going alone (and doing a cat 10) or we won't be going at all. He does not want to use all of our DVC points for 3 years and not use DVC until 2008- so we won't go that route. I am wondering how much the single supplement is?

Thank you so much for the Birthday Wishes, Bob
Our 14 day cruise was alife changing event for me....because of this cruise I have met so many people that have become such good friends that I may never have met otherwise....I wanted a way to remember just how incredible this cruise was....so as a birthday present to myself this is the tattoo that I got tonight as a permanent memory of our Panama Canal cruise.....

Hey... do I see a reference to Table 9 in one of those bubbles???
Everyone... sorry I've been away from the boards for a bit... my project's victory was short lived. We are continuing to nurse our battle scars. I'm bandaged up and getting ready for another day of battle.
We will be at WDW from the 15 through the 18th (leaving early on Monday the 19th). We were hoping to stay at BWV or BCV, but the only places available were OKW and SSR (which we aren't fond of... while beautiful, it's way too spread out + feels like being off property), so we booked at OKW with thoughts of pool hopping at GF. Brandon is so excited about another trip... and of course Expedition Everest! So I'll have a lot of planning to do with a 10 year old in mind! I'll have to brave it at least once. (I've never been a coaster fan... oh the things we do to make little ones happy :lmao:
I've just read your posts about the pricing for the MED cruises. I spoke to DCL and our TA last week, and both had assured me the level 1 pricing would be in effect until the 2nd day of booking. :guilty: I guess, by DCL's standards, they kept their word! ;) I assumed they meant the second day of booking for those of us in the sub general public. :rotfl: I guess that assumption was incorrect! :rotfl2: If Cat 11s have risen, I'm assuming the rest of the catagories have as well, which will definitely price us out.
Ken, I share your thoughts as well on the handling of this, :sad2: and am very disappointed at the results we all now find ourselves dealing with.
:hippie: Scott... glad you're keeping up with your left hand typing! :surfweb:
Bob... keep having FUN! :bounce:

Celeste,
I agree, the pricing is really high and probably going to climb. We're pretty disappointed too, as we really wanted to do this one, but if many people feel as we do, that the prices are way too high, then at the 90 day mark, they will drop as people cancel. Then there might be some FL resident rates show up on the repo. I don't know what will happen on CM rates for the Med, but we'll be watching. It just occured to me that we could do the repo, then switch to another cruise line for a Med cruise that goes exactly where we want it to for half the price... It would be hard to get off the Magic to do that, but she's not going to the parts of Italy we wanted to see, where Eric served his mission, so that's at least an option...
