Peter, If only our pups were so talented.

Geno's , yes real pizza and don't forget Lou Malnatti's (SP?), Beef Sandwiches, yes very good. I do miss many things about Chicago.

Boat show was fun, now to win the Lotto. Cuban food has been great.

Home to WY tomorrow. Burr!!!!

Saw Celebrity and RCC and Carnival crusie out of port today. Or I should say we herd the life boat drill's.

Thanks all for the recommendations! :thumbsup2 Now I think I won't have enough time to try them all.

I'll be hoofing it a bit on my own, so probably would prefer to stick to the more casual 'joint' type of places versus upscale steakhouses.

I just got my itinerary. Not only will I be cold, but I'll also be having to leave the hotel at 4am my time. :coffee: Yep, I'll be lots of 'fun' while I'm there! :scared:

Hopefully there will be a next time and I can meet up with you then Celeste!!!

Kendra

ps. Scott - thanks for voting...... I should have "Did you vote today?" stickers made :lmao: Hope my BIL appreciates all the hard work of the DIS'ers on his behalf! :thumbsup2

O.K. Elaine, explain this one.... someone was talking about Norm MacDonald and "beaver fever". I assume that it is a Canadian thing?

Well yes....and no....In Canada we have a new commercial series for our national telephone provider, Bell Canada and it stars 2 beavers...and one of then is voiced by Norm MacDonald...as to "beaver fever"....I guess that is what they are referrig to.

P.S. thanks for the Parrothead Phlocking explanation.

Hey, Scott!!!!! We couldn't find the ladder.....or the beer cooler....your neighbor musta been snitching.....we did keep a good eye on the place though....waved on the way into town.....on the way to the races...on the way "home" from the races...on the way to the Hot Springs....on the way back into town...missed it this morning, though....waved to Air Force Two and all the Army/Air Force guys bivouaced at the Teton pullout.....they sure looked cold!!

We walked to Jedidiah's Sat morning....-24º!! You can keep it, except for the "no wind" part.....I'm sure your trip was great!

Just got back from a quick trip to CA and decided to check the boards... it's almost like pre-cruise days with so much activity!

Congrats to Steve and Amy and Welcome to Baby Emma!
Georgie said it all in her poem - so ditto to that.

Looks like Q had a great time on her B-day, such cute pictures!

Unfortunately we missed Q by 2 days and Ken & Shari by 1 day. :(
Judging by the pics I do believe it was much more crowded when we were at DL/DCA over the weekend. Still fun - but LOTS of people there!

We took a walk around The Queen Mary Fri. night - then came home and voted for Max to win a wedding there.
Is he sure he wants us to vote FOR him?

Kendra, so sorry about the producing troubles.
I went to a presentation today with Marc Platt (Wicked producer) He shared a few stories about the challenges they faced with that show... you're in good company. Of course I'm sure he's reaping quite the financial reward now and I'm guessing you'll get a few good jobs and maybe some flowers. Just not fair.
You're doing a good thing - Hang in there!

I'm with Leslie & Elaine on Scott's picture - Yikes!

Debbie - what a great photo!

Hi Everyone,

First, thanks so much for your kind words and congratulations for our new little pride and joy! She really has been a handful this last week but it has been the most incredible time of our lives. I can't believe she will be a week old tonight! It's amazing how much she has changed in her short lifetime. Her hair has gotten a lot lighter, her moulding (peanut head) has gone away. She is also starting to grow into those cute chubby cheeks!

Last night was our first halfway decent night's rest. She at least went to sleep early but we still had to wake up often for feeding/changing/burping. The two nights before, she was up until 5am and 3:30am. We've only managed around 4 hours per night up until last night. :coffee:

The only way she seems really comfortable to sleep is on my chest which is rough for me since I can't sleep well sitting up. As soon as I try to put her down, she starts crying a few minutes later!

Thanks Auntie Elaine for posting the pics and notification about Emma's arrival. When I've had enough coffee, I'll have to change my signature and picture to one of the three of us.

Georgie, that poem was incredible and will be in her scrapbook! I can't thank you enough! You are the best!!!

Happy Birthday Quincy!

You really are an awesome group! I can't wait for her to be old enough to join the DIS. I'll have to start thinking of a screen name now. Maybe:

Little Souvenir
Baby Airtime
Repo Rugrat
Everyone's DISneice
L'il Lanyard Person
Stinkerbelle

I'll try to catch up on all the posts in the next few days. I'll also post a link to some more photos once I get them uploaded.

Take care everyone!

Steve it HAS to be Little Souvenir!!! And don't forget to put your Repo DVD into Emma's TimeCastle. After all... that's where her life started!!:thumbsup2 Tell Amy the only nice thing about a c-section... is that the moulding is slight and goes away a lot quicker.... Natural births tend to leave them with a bit of a cone head for a while....LOL
I'm laughing thinking Emma's first words will be DIS boards...:rotfl: or how about LET'S CRUISE!!!
I can see she is already a Daddy's girl and has you wrapped.... better get used to sleeping upright.....:rotfl2: Tip: She likes sleeping on your chest because she can hear your heartbeat and she's used to that. They have stuffed animal type things I believe that simulate that ... it might be worth a shot.

Good morning Celeste... I see we are both early birds today.

Steve...I'm glad that you posted and it was my please to let our DisFamily know about Emma's arrival and to share her gorgeous pictures.

I did something last night that some of you may think is weird...but I went to a psychic party...boy was that an enlightening and emotional experience.

She had me "pegged" to a tee (which was really scary) and the first thing she said to me is that the internet is a big part of my life and that I had a life changing experience because of it (the internet).

Yup she was right - the internet is a big part of my life (how else would I communicate with my DisFamily) and I do feel that I am a different person since taking our Panama Canal cruise.

She also mentioned that she saw palm tress, an island and a sail boat in my future in 2 - 2 weeks or 2 months and that the palm tree was down - like I would be visiting an island by boat that had been hit by a hurricane....as you can see I am taking a Western Caribbean cruise in a couple of weeks (hence the 2) and we were to stop in Cozumel but now are going to Costa Maya and we also visit Grand Cayman....{insert Twilight Zone music here}

While I know this was for fun....but since she right about so many things, I really hope that some of the things she said will come true...because I will be one very happy person, in that case.

Elaine, I think the psychic lady had an ear piece and was listening to stuff Peter was feeding her.

The pups were awaiting us when we arrived, we were mobbed with Malamutes, jumping and running, and then a serious bought of begging. A skill they never seem to loose.

Kelli, Huskies and Alaskan Sled dog are built for speed, the Malamute is built for heavy hauling. It was the Malamute that brought dyptheria serum to Nome and saved the day.

MRI yesterday on the shoulder, Rotator Cuff is torn, Surgery set for March 9. I will be glad to get it done and over with. The best part is that it will not effect our May trip to Grand Cayman, again the water therapy will be a good thing.

Bob, the new Expedition Everest at AK is open, and I hear many screams are happening... don't ask me, as I don't do roller coasters! The stunt show at MGM is very popular, and Soarin' at Epcot is wonderful! I hope that helps...

Hey everybody,
It looks like we might actually be going on that Alaskan cruise we talked about last year. We need advice, what cruise line (Holland America or Princess) what excursions to do, whether to go salmon fishing (yes!) and anything else you might know. It looks like mid June as far as timing goes. It will be just about 5 of us, so not the big reunion we were hoping for, but Eric's dad really wants us to go, so...

BTW, it was 82* here today...lol!

Scott, Sorry to hear about you shoulder....good to get it taken care of between trips....the pups will enjoy you being at home, I'm sure.

Hey everyone! :coffee:

Just wanted to let everyone know that my BIL "Max" ... real name Andrew was NOT proposed to this morning.

He is grateful as he thinks one of the other potential brides that wasn't selected to be THE bride is better suited for him. He'll go to the Queen Mary next Friday to the wedding to be introduced to the other 'contestants'.

Thanks to you all for voting for him. Even with all of our efforts, he only came in 3rd place with about 1800 votes. The 'winner' is "Carl", a 52 year old Psychologist, never been married, and had over 3,000 votes. Doris says she selected him based on compatibility not voting results.

Renae, my folks always wanted to take an Alaskan cruise. I think I've heard Holland American gives a nice one. Have fun planning!

Steve + Amy, enjoy that little blessing!

Steve,

She's adorable!!!! She (and you) will get past the lack of sleep in about 16 years...lol! We can't wait to mee her!!!

Renae

The last two nights have been great after three really rough ones!

Regarding the Alaska cruise, that was our first cruise in 2002. We didn't really do much research beforehand and probably spent a lot more than we should have!

We cruised on Princess this time and once again to Mexico. We've never cruised on Holland America but hear they are nice too. They have the reputation for being cruises for a much older crowd, kind of like how Carnival has the reputation for being a partying crowd.

Have you decided if you wanted a one-way cruise to Anchorage or a round-trip? We did a round-trip (Inside Passage) from Vancouver. Our stops were Skagway, Sitka, and Juneau with a glacier cruising day in front of Yakitat Bay. Glacier Bay is the normal spot for this but they changed our itinerary at the last minute.

In Juneau, we did a whale watching excursion that was by far the most incredible excursion we've ever taken. We saw countless whales that were breaching very close to our boat. It was a little scary but amazing. As part of the excursion, they took us to the Mendenhall Glacier which was also really neat.

In Skagway, we took the Yukon Trail/White Pass Railway (or something like that), which was a long train ride that was really beautiful, scenic, and informative on the history of Skagway.

In Sitka, we didn't book an excursion but just took a shuttle ride from the pier that took us on a tour of the city.

I can't recommend Alaska enough. It really is impressive. One thing though, if you are a fan of the pools, be sure to book a ship with a covered pool. No one used ours since it was uncovered. A few people used the hot tubs but they were almost always empty. Also, instead of beach towels, they handed out blankets on deck.

I don't know if you've been on any ships other than Disney's but I would pay more attention to the age and amenities of the ship rather than the cruiseline itself. Find out how many "Stars" a ship receives. I wouldn't book on anything less than 4.5 since it will seem like it needs updating and not have many features.

Please PM me if you have any questions about Alaska or Princess in general!

Yeah, I can't think of anything more stressful!!! :rotfl2:What an AWFUL day!!!!:lmao:

Okay Kelli... Next time I'll send the Grandpuppies out to YOU and THEN see what you think. :rotfl: I am not used to untrained puppies. My house is NOT puppy proof and has way too much Disney stuff! :teeth:

For example... how the heck does a 5 month old basset hound get a Giant Teddy bear from 5 ft up and drag it across a room?? Then.. somehow gets a Disney Bear, chews the tag with the little story book and slobbers all over it ... in the short amount of time it takes ME to go to the bathroom!!! :confused3 Then after being outside for more than 45 minutes.. the beagle comes in and promptly pees on the rug!!! I was nearly insane! :crazy2:
BOB... do you have any tips for house training an obstinant beagle??

Thank goodness by the time I got home today they were gone. My DSILTB (dear son in law to be) picked them up about 5pm. Joe got the brunt of it today. I think this evening we will BOTH be drinking Konk Koolers and vegging out! I should really post a picture in my sig that shows the little terrors how they REALLY act. :rotfl2: I am a terrible Grandma.....:scared1:

OK, I agree~~that would be VERY stressful! I may be crying on your shoulder next week  .....after we see how our foster does... :scared:

And, btw, I'm not going to comment on how long it takes you to go potty...no way.... :goodvibes

Leslie,

After I read your story of the grandpuppies' activities, I had to admit I laughed...for a minute... then I really felt for you! And that they would go after a Disney Bear!!! Man, that bites! (yeah, I know...bad pun) Maybe you should pin them up by their ears... no... better not... Good luck!!! I love puppies, but only at someone else's house... grown dogs and cats for me!

.......The pups were awaiting us when we arrived, we were mobbed with Malamutes, jumping and running, and then a serious bought of begging.

Scott, sorry to hear about the Rotator Cuff. Guess that leaves you out of the starting rotation for a while. :)
Have you taken the pups to see Eight Below? :dog:

Thanks Renae. I've seen the video and it looks cool. Don't know if we will make it there. Probably one day at Magic Kingdom, one day Epcot and one at Universal. Then we will take it from there.

Funny you should mention it, they do watch dog shows on TV, i.e. Westminster, The puppy bowl, Snow Dogs and I am sure they will watch Eight Below. I always hesitate to see those kinds of movies cause I know they will make me cry, just a big softy. The heart of the sled dogs is sooo big and noble. Very true to their personality. Something about their devotion that grabs me.

The KEWL thing about the surgery is I will get to have a scar, then I can go around asking people if they want to see my scar. LOL Other surgeries just left small ones, not KEWL.

Todays drink of the day... Konk Kooler. I had such a stressful day watching the grandpuppies that I had to drag out the recipe and pretend I was at CC this evening. When we go to Florida next month, we will just have to take Tip with us and she can explain things to the little floor customizer. :)

Went to a place called Rocco's with Lee's brothers and their families. (need a smilely that smacks it's head here)
More of the same tonight. Surprise 80th birthday party for their father. Polish Buffet.
Think I'll just do the coffee thing today. :coffee:

Here's the recipe for the Konk Kooler

Konk Kooler

Ingredients
1/2 ounce dark rum
3/4 ounce light rum
1 ounce passion fruit juice
1 pina colada mix
1 ounce orange juice

Directions
Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.
Serve in a tall glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a wedge of tropical fruit.

Hello everybody!!

Scott, sorry to hear about surgery. I don't know if the scar will be that cool, I don't remember them being that big. I have taken care of a few guys who have had rotator cuff surgery who have come to the ICU due to cardiac issues (previous MI)- one of the MD's put a morphine drip directly into the surgical site and they had no pain, until we pulled it. However, it did give them great range of motion. I know the worst thing will be moving it after and they are going to want you to move it so you don't get adhesions. Good luck with the left handed typing!

Did anyone else get the new book and DVD from DCL? I haven't watched it yet, but it will be interesting to see if it shows all of the new changes since dry dock.

8 below was really good and sad. Noah cried and cried. He said it was a horrible movie and he never wanted to see it again. However, I thought it was very good. He also cried at the Disney IMAX movie about Mars, because two of the robots were left behind. I'm glad my little kung-fu master still has a heart.

The beagle is a female... she has NO interest house training. You would think she would want to be like the big dogs... but no. I have no patience. I don't even remember what patience is...:rotfl2: Also.. we don't have them full time (THANK GOD) so going back and forth doesn't give them any consistancy in training. They are not my dogs after all... yet anyway... seems we always end up with them eventually.....:crazy2:
Looks like Elaine took care of the Konk Kooler recipe... Thanks Elaine! I substituted Cranberry juice for the passion fruit juice... didn't have that on hand. It was quite nice! Also they don't specify how much pina colada mix. We use the bottled stuff and it is pretty sweet so I only use an ounce.

Scott. I went to the Eight Below website and watched the 5 or 6 minute trailer.... balled my eyes out thru most of it.  I know they'll probably be showing it on the ship... but I don't know if I'll be brave enough to go and watch it in a theater full of people..... I'll need a whole box of Kleenex.... and I don't think they'll appreciate the sobbing.....

Ok I did watch the 8 Below trailer and checked out the web site. I know the movie will be too much and will pass on it. I did read the cast info about the dogs and was glad to see that several were pound rescues. That is KEWL. Just looking into the eyes of our kids tells me it would be too sad, I would be there with Leslie, Lynn and others with a very very big pile of Kleenex.

Celeste I know the scar wont be that big as it is the mini-open procedure that will be used. But hey it will be a scar.

Just saw this on Mouse Savers. I also asked to be wait-listed 3 weeks ago, but was told there was no such thing. Just thought I'd share what I found.

If you want to cruise May-December 2007 on the Disney Magic, be aware that Disney is no longer taking waiting list requests for those sailings. Beginning 3/28/06, Disney Cruise Line will begin processing the May-December 2007 Disney Magic cruise requests that have already been taken, in the order they were received. Guests (or their travel agents) will be contacted as each request is processed to let them know they have cleared the waitlist, at which time their cruise will be reserved and a confirmation issued. This will continue through 4/3/06.

Not on Disney's waiting list? You can contact travel agencies now and get put on the agency's waiting list. They will be on the phone first thing on 4/4/06 when the remaining staterooms open up, doing their best to get reservations for waiting list clients who want May-December 2007 Disney Magic cruises. Disney has stated that there will be some availablility left in stateroom categories 4-12 when they open bookings on 4/4/06.

No official announcement has been made about special itineraries, but there are strong rumors that DCL will be doing 10-night and 11-night Mediterranean itineraries in the summer. Rumored dates:

5/12/07-5/26/07- Repositioning cruise from Port Canaveral to Europe
5/26/07-8/18/07 - Alternating 10-night and 11-night cruises
8/18/07-9/1/07 - Repositioning cruise from Europe to Port Canaveral

Hi Laurie!

Good to hear from you!

Hope your "CRICK" doesn't do any damage!!! ;)

As far as the 2007 cruises to Europe. The 2007 thread indicates there really was a waitlist at DCL which is now closed... Don't know if this is true or not, but there are several on that thread who have confirmed places on specific cruises., requested as early os August '05. Joe + I are very discouraged to learn this, especially after repeated calls to DCL about these cruises, with little information gleaned. I will call DCL again tomorrow to ask for the truth :lmao: It will be an interesting call... pray for the CM who answers the phone to speak with this Lanyard person!

In the meantime I plan on contacting every TA on the planet to try to get a place on the 1st repro. Thanks to DCL's approach to advertising about these cruises, I will also be calling on April 4th regardless of how many waitlists I'm on, or how many reservations I have on hold. We were really looking forward to this trip. Now, I don't even know if we have a fighting chance... and everything is still "Un-Official"!

Laure, I thought of you this morning as I was driving home from work when I heard that it was going to be raining a lot in California this week and how you had already had problems with water. Hopefully the creek will stay put and look pretty where it belongs- rather than in your basement.

Georgie, did you try contacting the TA you asked me about? I have been put on the waitlist by them before and had success. I was able to get a booking for the September cruise this way- my TA got me tentaive bookings for the 10 and 11 day cruise, upon which I had a few days to place the deposit. Maybe that will help?

Anyone else get an "islandgram" this week? I got one that talked about upcoming cruises, but stated that nothing was set in stone- yeah right. There was also a shell that had Don Ducky Williams showing how to draw Mickey.

We'll watch our mailbox!

I will call DCL again tomorrow to ask for the truth It will be an interesting call... pray for the CM who answers the phone to speak with this Lanyard person!

HERE'S WHAT I FOUND OUT TODAY 02/27/06:
I called DCL and asked to be transferred to a manager. After a long wait I was connected. I first thanked him for taking time to clarify mis-information I had received from DCL on a previous call and went on to ask if there was a DCL waitlist for the upcoming, still "unofficial" "yet-to-be-announced" European cruises in 2007.

YES, THERE IS A WAIT LIST.

I will spare everyone my complete conversation, but will say my premise was one of huge disappointment, and not anger. He apologized that things had been done this way, and explained that DCL's Inventory Control Number has always been used for specific requests... Africa, Australia, you name it... DCL actually keeps these requests and builds lists.

Things had gotten out of hand with the requests received for the European sailings, and this list was closed. But, it will be used, and given priority.

FACT:
Those on this list (first come, first served) will be given DCL reservations once the bookings begin (date to be announced). Yes, these dates go back to 2005. Reservations from this list will be made prior to the phone lines opening to the public. I did express, in all fairness, the phone number should be posted on their website, in plain view for all. Yet, I also said I understood why its use is not encouraged by DCL. Again, I made my points, but will spare the details.

I asked what he would suggest for those of us who are not on the wait list for the European cruises.

Once the date is announced, call DCL. If your category is sold out, ask to be wait-listed. (Once bookings begin there will be a new wait list)

You can go through a TA, but at this point, since there is no more pre-booking wait list, your TA will also have to call for reservations, and will be competing against all calls.

Hope this helps.

I know there has been talk of the date being April 4th, and I really hope that is wrong and they will push it to any day past the 5th. We are in Ireland and London until the 5th...I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it is later!

Georgie, So, do I understand that you are planning to do the repo to the med and not one in the med? What are the rest of you guys thinking about which to do? We've been stewing about it for a while, and we think we're going for the first one actually in the med, but it will depend on which italian ports it goes to. Eric served in Rome and Sicily as a missionary, so we'd love to go there and see some of the people he knew... also, he's been raving about a specific pizzaria in Rome for almost 27 years, so I want him to take me there....yum!

Georgie

Thanks for taking the time to call DCL and to post to clarify the situation. It seems like you got "connected" to the right manager.

I have a feeling that there is a good chance that many of the people that are "wait-listed" may pass once they hear the prices of the cruise.

From experience, I inquired onboard our November '04 cruise about the Panama Canal cruise as did my tablemates and we were told both cruises were "sold out"....you can imagine my surprise when I called one evening in early January '05 to inquire about doing back to back Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises and the CM suggested we just do the 14 day Panama Canal crossing cruise instead....the CM placed our reservation on a courtesy hold for 24 hours but I only needed 2 hours to decide to go ahead and book the cruise.

Renae... Yes, Joe + I would like to do the crossing (we'd REALLY like to do both ;) ) Once there, we'd like to to Euro Disney (DL Paris) before coming home. There's just something exciting to us about going down to WDW, getting on a ship :boat: and sailing over to Europe. Of course, that's why Joe also wants a cat 6 (gulp). Don't know if we can even swing :woohoo: that one, but, as long as we're wishing pixiedust: we'll wish... BIG!

Georgie, I just had to put in my 2 cents worth also, I remember that although the Panama Canal Repo cruise was sold out at first, as soon as the money was due, people started dropping out, and it was available again. That is how we ended up doing it on DVC points, even though we had a cash reservation originally. We made the cash reservation when it opened up, but that was before the 11 months out that we could reserve with points, when the 11 months out date came, the ship was full. It wasn't until later that we could convert to points, after some people gave up their reservations. I'm sure this will happen on the European Repo also. Good luck.

Thanks Georgie for making the call. I had always "assumed" that Inventory Control was only for Cat 1, 2, 3 rooms. I had heard about the waiting list but did not think it applied to me!

I really would like to do the repo. I now know that I will not be bored :thumbsup2 and will love the sea days. The airfare is what will kill me! This past weekend I was talking with a TA and her prediction that it will cost both an arm and a leg. We shall see.

Doing a med only cruise is not out of the question, but my preference is the repo.

We shall see!!

I think I remember reading about how some of the people have been on the waitlist since 2005- well, I'm one of those people. Somehow I learned about the waitlist while on our May cruise and I called my TA and asked her to put me on it. She told me there wasn't such a thing- I told her there was and to make some calls. She later emailed me and told me I was officially on the waitlist: I am still on the waitlist for a few other trips as well. Basically anything except cruises from California to Mexico. I don't think I'd fly out there to do that trip, but I would do it from Florida to California again. I also know that Char and Andy called DCL about a waitlist and sent a fax in January and somehow got a letter confirming their waitlist status in February. Who knows, we'll have to see what happens. I do know that my TA usually holds a room with a verandah and one with a window for me- because she never knows which one I will want. Maybe I could ask her if it is possible to switch one of them to another person? :scratchin Although maybe she will only be able to hold one this time? Who knows....

Got a speeding ticket on my way home from work this morning. I got cited because the speed limit was increasing from 40 to 55 and I was accelerating: is that fair? Any suggestions on fighting it?

Also, went to doctor for a virus I've had for about 5 days and just overnight with the medication, I feel 100% better. Almost human again. :sunny:

Also, just got back from going to the KING TUT exhibit in Ft. Lauderdale.

If you ever get a chance to see it, it is a must. Absolutely fabulous. And you have to get the audio to go with it. Detailed in every way

Leslie: If you and Joe haven't seen it yet, you must go. Go early in the am and you can get tickets right there and not wait. If you have tickets, that is even better. Yeah it is Friday....... Cold here as it was 12 when I drove into work. Hope those that want rain get it and those that are squishy with rain get a dry day or two.

64 weeks of work left, but who is counting. Look out FL we will be heading your way.

Tying up the loose ends at work. Yesterday got blood work and EKG done. Very healthy for an old guy. Good news surgery day is bumped up to Monday. I am having sleepless nights due to the discomfort of the shoulder. I really want to get this going. Lynn has been great. I get to pack up my new Buzz Light Year bag to take with me. I have a great doc, the orthopods here the some of the best. This is an advantage of living in a Wyoming ski area.

Three more SCUBA classes to finish up before Monday. Mostly pool sessions so that is not too bad. Being in the water is a relief for the shoulder.

Would love to see the Tut exhibit. Such are the disadvantages of living in a Wyoming ski area.

Will be able to get taxes and our travel log presentation done and polished up while at home during sick time off.

Tying up the loose ends at work. Yesterday got blood work and EKG done. Very healthy for an old guy. Good news surgery day is bumped up to Monday.

We'll be thinking of you! I hope your hospital stay goes well, tell your nurses to be nice- or they'll have me to deal with. Just remember to ask for pain meds earlier rather than later, it's easier to control pain when it is at a lower level- and remember that pain meds don't come unless asked for. (Many patients are surprised when they learn that pain meds don't just come like scheduled meds and that they have to request them.)

You could request a cool scar? :rotfl2:

Too cute Scott.....I can just see you arriving at the Hospital with your Buzz Lightyear suitcase!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It even has my name on it. Will pack a couple of DVD’s like Lion King and Toy Story and Hatari.

Celeste, thanks for the advice, and you are so correct. I think the body heals better when it is not in pain. Took me a while to learn that one. I am a pretty good patient. I was told I would be checked every 4 hours to rate the pain. The time was moved back, so most likely I will have to spend the night. I do know most of the old time nurses and they are great. I know there will be one there that I taught to dive. I wont have to invoke the wrath of Celeste.

We just have two more SCUBA classes to finish up, one today and one tomorrow. Being in the water really feels good.

Thanks for the good thoughts. Now I have to think of what kind of KEWL scar I want.

Man Steve you are really ticking off the miles, must be counting the time up walking Emma.

We got there at 9:15 am and was back in our car by 11:20 am. I believe mostly it was because it was early am and not afternoon. Afternoon would probably take you longer to go through due to the crowds and people standing directly in front of the encasements so no one else can see until they move. Some people thought they were the only ones there. :confused3

Just as information for everyone who would be interested. This is part of an e-mail I sent to a friend to tell them a little about King Tut exhibit:

KING TUT was awesome. Just amazing at the pieces that were found
in this 4 room cave in Egypt. I learned so much. The pieces were in
almost perfect condition. ONly a few pieces had chips out of them
and the gold was amazing.

He was only 19 yrs. 2 weeks old and they think he died of an infection
when something happened and he broke either his knee or right above
the knee and it got infected. But there were broken bones all over his
body and legs. Very strange.

His head piece is the only item not sent over. It is too fragile to ship from Egypt any longer. There were others that resembled it

Knives, chairs, tables masks of all kinds, boats, all kind of jewelry and
little trinklets that were placed in his body
upon burial.

All organs were taken out of body and placed in another coffin with him
in his coffin. Then the brain was taken out with a long things through
his nostrils so they didn't cut the skull and mess it up.

The coffins he was in was massive. Four of them in all and it covered
a very large space until you got down to the body wrapped in clothes.
His coffin was pure gold and really beautiful.

What a find this Carter man found.

There must be so many more people buried like that in the ground over
in Egypt and most will probably never be found. Just a wealth of
items uncovered waiting to be found.

No pictures. There were guards and many of them in every room to watch
everyone so no pics were taken. The exhibit is very well worked and it
was worth the money to see it. $25. each and $7 for the audio. The audio was worth
every penny 'cause it described each item, otherwise, you just saw and read
a little bit about it. It was narrated by Omar Sharif. Excellent

I just got back from seeing Scott, he made it thru surgery fine. He had a block on his shoulder, so he still is feeling no pain. The block should wear off tomorrow morning. It was a more serious injury than the Doc thought from the MRI, his recovery will be slower than previously expected. After seeing Scott in recovery, I had to go to work for a few hours (just as he was really waking up, of course), but I got to leave early (9 pm) and went back over and visited him for another hour. I couldn’t stay too long because the dogs were home waiting for dinner, so I missed the chocolate lava cake that they said they were serving at midnight! He is at an out patient clinic, not the hospital, so the service and the food has been good. For dinner, they order out from several local restaurants, they would have fed me dinner also, but I had to go to work. I left Scott in good spirits (feeling no pain for the first time since the injury). I will bring him home tomorrow morning, I’m sure he will remain in good spirits until the block wears off, then he will have to start hitting the pain medication. I have most of the week off from work, only have to work a partial shift on Wed night that could not get covered. Thanks to everyone for all their support and pixie dust!

Hi everyone. I may not post as often as Scott, but I will try to keep everyone informed of his progress. The block on his shoulder was wearing off when I got in to see him at 8am this morning. So he is now on pain killers. We made it home, but the driveway is really rough, and the bouncing up the hill did not help the shoulder. After some more pain pills, and a half hour neck rub (one of his main complaints is the muscle pain in his neck, he is on valium for that), he got comfortable enough to fall asleep on the sofa. Again, thanks to everyone for your good thoughts. I will get him to the computer to read them when he is comfortable sitting here.
Celeste, hope you got your paper in on time. Scott was wondering if you had any recommendations for diet to improve healing, any suggestions? I’m glad I have to work only one night this week, and it is not a full shift, just 3am to 7am on Thursday morning, so I will basically be a day shift person this week.

Vitamin C, protein, water, and rest- That would be my best recommendation. I don't know if he will fell up to eating meat yet- but the protein will help him repair the damage that has been done.(as will the vitamin C).

Thanks Celeste, I will pass on that information. It was a long night. At first, the percocet was not doing a thing for him, he would ask for more 1 1/2 to 2 hours after taking some. I called the Doc back, and he said to give him the morphine that was supposed to be for night time, and then the percocet on top of that. The morphine was time released. I gave him a pill at 4pm, he was not comfortable until 7pm. After that, it was not too bad as far a pain, but he would still get up, or want to get up every hour, but he was too doped up to do anything for himself. Since he has been living on the living room sofa, I put a mattress on the living room floor for the night. (Just like I did when our dog had her puppies.) So far today, he has not wanted the morphine, so I guess the percocet is keeping him at least comfortable. After yesterday afternoon, I called in sick (family sick leave) for work tonight. I did not feel comfortable leaving Scott alone for even 5 hours. Got to go, Scott is back up.

No Georgie & Steve, I don't have the skills to do the map automatically. The basic map is from google and I update the redline each week manually. Theoretically, there is a way to do what you suggest with the map.google engine. However, I don't have the patience and the time to figure it out.
Thanks for the kind comments.
UPDATE...I did find this site http://www.webwalking.com/googlemap.htm and this link shows my approximate route..My Route (http://www.webwalking.com/googlemap.htm?zl=12&x=-83.056640625&y=34.88593094075317&path={_uuFv~{pOlvqhAeuc_@) . It only gives a straight line. Hey that's a shorter distance. But it's a start.

We'll be sailing on Holland America's Veendam, a 55,000 ton ship. I'm starting to get excited, even though there will be no Dis events or friends... There will be amazing new sights and excursions, though... Now, where do I find warm clothes??????? LOL... gotta go through the boxes of stuff I haven't looked at in 5 years of living in Florida!
Renae

You are gonna have a fab time. I took the land and ship cruise (15 days) - came home and then went again on the land 7 day cruise 3 weeks later. It was before I had a digital camera and took over 50 rolls of pictures. I went broke that year in pictures. LOL

Sweat suits are the bst way to go onboard

We leave next week on our 7 day with Costa cruise. Their new ship, Magica, that just came out in December. I am excited to do that also - a bunch of us from Ft. Lauderdale are getting together and have a greet and meet as we start sail that day

Enjoy and have a great time. There is lots of do and so much to see.

Great to hear that Scott is doing a little better each day. Thanks for keeping us posted Lynn! Hang in there Scott.. we're thinking of you!

Congratulations Renae and Kay on your upcoming cruises.
Kay we were considering the Magica until the last minute Disney cruise came up. Let us know how it was and of course take lots of pictures!!! We can get such cheap rates out of Ft. Lauderdale on that ship that we might just give it a try! (Don't tell Mickey!!!)

Okay back to packing. I'm in panic mode at the moment!! This is probably the LEAST prepared we've ever been for a cruise!!!!

Congratulations Renae! I know you'll love it! It is a much different kind of beauty than the Caribbean. No less beautiful, that's for sure! You'll no doubt see countless bald eagles and we even had lots of bear, sea lion, and whale sightings. There is also nothing neater than seeing large chunks of ice float by while you are on your balcony bundled up in a blanket enjoying a hot cup of coffee, tea or cocoa.

Being used to Florida weather now, you'll be really chilly up there! You'll notice it will get gradually warmer the further south you go. The scenery will also go from a lot whiter to greener.

I looked up your cruise and the only port we visited that you will be is Juneau. We learned a lot of neat facts about there on our bus ride to our whale watching excursion. I really wanted to visit Ketchikan. The pictures I've seen of the buildings there look really neat!

Have a great time! They probably don't sell a whole lot of ski jackets in Orlando, do they? ;)

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes! Steve, it sounds like you've been on one. Which one did you do, the round trip or a one way? What time of year were you there? Was the whale-watching excursion the one where they promise you that if you don't see a whale, they'll give you $100 back as you get off the boat? We're thinking of that, but there is another one with a pro photographer to teach us how to get the best wildlife shots from a boat and on land.... I was shocked at the prices for excursions on this trip! So many of them are over $200 that we are going to have to pick and choose very carefully....

gotta get back to bed, (yawn)

Hi Celeste! Yes, the DCL site is finally "officially" teasing us with their MAJOR announcement set for March 21st. At least that date is out!

How about this tidbit I picked up on the DIS Mystery at Sea thread...

"I think all the buzz is about something we just heard about from a crew member on our cruise last week. He said DCL is in the process of moving the actual pirate ship used in Pirates of the Carribean to Castaway Cay where they would turn it into a museum. Only time will tell..."

I'm excited for all the LANYARD PEOPLE going on that September cruise, and all the great events you're planning. We'll be following you on the boards. ;)

Hey... I just had a $ thought... if the prices on the transatlantic repro are too high for us... maybe we can come on the September cruise instead! Time will tell. :hourglass

Hey Georgie,
I too have heard that the black pearl will be moved to Castaway Cay. I had not heard that it would be a musuem- just that it would be docked there for a while. I heard this on one of the many disney podcasts that I listen to while I am at the gym....however none of them are official podcasts. pirate:

It is also exciting that you might come with us in September, but sad that you wouldn't be there for the transatlantic- as I know that is the one you really want to go on. I may have to pick up yet another job to help pay for all of my cruising.... :smooth:

Scott: I hope you get better soon!

Renae: We did the round-trip from Vancouver. Our whale watching excursion was a bit pricey but we booked it through Princess and didn't know that we could book it directly through the vendors for much less. Ours guaranteed you would see whales or we would get a FULL refund. The tour operators said in the 15 years they have been doing this that they have never had to give a refund! In the couple of hours our tour lasted, we saw countless whales including several that were jumping out of the water. PM me your email address and I'll send you a quick video clip of what I filmed.

Okay, I have been there- but that is not the grocery store I was thinking of- this one is more like a regular grocery store. (on UK standards)

chips or crisps as we call them are geting very inventive with their flavours..some recent ones include: curry, worcester sauce, roast beef dinner, lamb and mint.

the trouble is they tend to be high in salt and fats..still there is nothing better to snack on when you are having a pint of beer in the local pub :drinking1

Hi Kids, Well I a, weaning my self off the percocet and valium and doing pretty well. I was a little worse than the MRI showed. The last few days are a blur. Seems like Tuesday to me. Really limited to the left hand typing. Lynn has been great and kinda kept me up on what has been happening here.

Sounds like some rain may be heading to the SW.

We're getting pelted right now.
Problem is the ground is so hard and dry we've got quite the waterfall coming down the hill out back. We'll have to keep an eye on that.

Celeste, glad you're done with nights for awhile!

I've got the same 2 cabins we had on the repo booked on an Oct. DCL and would love to be able to cruise then - just not sure if it will work out schedule wise or not. I hope so - but have not gotten involved in a meet thread yet just in case.

No Disney trips planned right now either - looks like the closest we'll get for awhile is seeing the Princesses on ice later this month.

Download I-Tunes off of the internet- no cost. Once you have the program on your computer, you will need to go to the "music store"- then you will have to search the podcast section- then you put disney into the search box on that page and you will be able to select what you want. You can listen to them on your computer or burn them to disk and listen to them in your car or transfer them to an MP3 player. It's really very easy and all free. Some of the podcasts also have videocasts- so you can watch some short videos.

I forgot to mention that I also subscribe to the podcasts from WDW and DL....DCL should get on the boat :rotfl2: and do a podcast too.

BTW- It helps if you have a fast connection....

Please feel free to PM if anyone has questions or needs assistance.

Debbie,

That was so cool!!!! Thanks for sharing it with everybody!!!

Hey guys, can I get some advice for this Alaska cruise? I want to get wonderful wildlife pictures, and I have a pretty good camera (5mp and 4x optical zoom) but I wonder if I need a telephoto lens to get good shots of the whales, ect. They have to at least try to stay 100 yards away from them, so what do you think? Do I have a good enough excuse to go get a long lens? I'm going to do an excursion with a professional photo safari guide, who will help us get the best pics we can, but no skill can give me great shots if the animals are too far away... any ideas?

thanks,
