Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Lightning was on the streets today! 4.02 miles in 46.48 min  Not a PR but the best pace I've seen in awhile.

Steve...yikes! Glad you caught Krista in time to come rescue you.

Lynnda...:wizard: for you and the fam. So sorry to see everyone's ill.

Sounds like lots of us are having a bit of LTO/WTO lately.

Erin...do you graduate in the spring too?

Angie...congrats on your run!

Bubba...welcome!

WWDave...love the game for the motivational effects! I got out for XT twice last week, havent done that in months. I am concerned about the same things Kristi and Karen mentioned. I've seen a lot of grousing about what minutes people are counting and whether some of the minutes are fair/appropriate. I think we're focusing too much on the details and losing sight of your big picture of just making sure we're getting out and doing stuff.

Thanks to Karen's brilliant suggestion, the Master Game spreadsheet is now linked to the first weekly post so it's easier to find!

Lots of cool threads around right now! Heather has shared the history of the first WISH team and Matt has a great thread where we can post our worst race pictures EVER!

Hi Y'all!

I'm getting ready for my 12-mile run tomorrow, then it's TAPER MADNESS for the next few weeks until the Sarasota Half-Marathon. Wheeee!!!:cool1:

Steve: so how did she GoogleEarth you? Do you have GPS on your phone and she looked up the coordinates?

********************************************
EVERYONE: I know it seems a little wierd with the Miles/Minutes groups, since there are some folks who are able to rack up the really high numbers:worship: , and others (like me) who just aren't able to do so:guilty: . So maybe the team-competition aspect isn't really healthy for us as a team.

 SO what if we maintain our Miles/Minutes groups (they are fun and easy to keep up with), but we compete against ourselves to keep our WISH Team OVERALL total miles/minutes high every month? I think then we could all celebrate at the end of a month (for example) that we all contributed to xxx hours and xxx miles total...and we can shoot for an even higher total the next month.

:cheer2: And at the POP Century meet next year, we'll celebrate our amazing year-long totals!:cheer2:

Well, that's my thought. And we can still have a blast with our small groups and encourage eachother. :grouphug:
*************************************************

Have a great week, all!

Mel- No I am not Graduating in the spring, more like spring 2011. But I am working hard at keeping that date set.

Jeff- I agree that we need to lose the "Prize" at the end of the game. We will all be winners having done something for ourselves.

My thinking on the game is have everyone set up personal goals each month, like I will run 50 miles in February. Have everyone be held accountable to their goal but have it a personal thing.

As far as not posting on the main thread I fell like I am kind of in a minority on the team. I am young and go to school while working. It is very hard for me to read five pages each night plus do everything else I need to do.

Tempers have been high this past week with the Super Bowl and the mess with the shirts. I think we as a team should just take a step back and figure out what is really the cause of the strife, and work to fix it.

Lynda- PD and good thoughts coming your way from CNY. I hope Timmy gets better soon.

Kristi- I loved your pictures from the Worst race pictures thread. I will try to contribute more.

Team as a whole- I am thinking about setting up a sub-thread for College students trying to stay healthy, What are your thoughts?

I am going to get off my soapbox now.

Good evening team:

I just want to post a few personal thoughts as to current WISH board events and hope you'll indulge me. Feel free to skip this post as it is probably more of a ramblings by Bill (as to posts made by Bill) than anything else and I'm guessing it will end up being long.

To start, I want to make sure everyone knows I have not recently (or in the past) intended to hurtfully attack anyone personally. As to **Krista** it was intended as end of the year football trash talk to a spirited fan of a rival team (though I do admit that I went a little overboard) and as to **Amy** I thought when I posted that I had sufficiently stated my sarcastic intent prior to making my statements, including about formally protesting to a non-existent International Olympic sub-committee. As to these specific individuals, I hope I have made proper amends.

People have also contacted me about my comments regarding the Philly/MCM thread. My comments about it started last summer and in part played into my post expressing my hope that we stayed together as a single team when the "Challenge Game" was first being proposed. I know as the team (any team) gets bigger, factions develop. From my perspective (which isn't necessarily worth much), I thought this was starting with the MCM thread. When I have time, I do lurk there to see if there is training, event or related information that may be useful to me. The people there are great and have a wonderful repore with one another. The thing was, there were frequent posts on the main/weekly thread to the effect of what happened to **MouseDave** we haven't heard from him in a while and has anyone heard from **Jodi** (I am not trying to pick on people here, just using them as examples of people who others cared about). Those people, however, were right here on the WISH board posting regularly on the MCM thread. Before the "Challenge Game" my concern was that this may begin to occur on a more wide-spread basis given the number of teams and people participating. The game has just started and it seems to be a great motivator. Time will tell, but it seems the weekly thread has slowed down and that there is now a lot of activity on the individual team threads. I don't go to every teams thread to see what's being discussed there, but I hope (from a selfish point of view) its nothing that I might benefit from. I hope, as I stated prior to the start, that these sub-groups don't become entrenched at the expense of the team.

Finally, to the extent anything I have done has caused the "Great Shirt Crises," I apologize. To me, ITS A SHIRT to identify the group. Who is the group? The PEOPLE inside the shirt. I didn't know communicating with eye2eye would call into question ongoing shirt orders and create such a debate. Clearly, there are team members who feel strongly about and/or vested in the current 2 year old design, down to the font, size of the runners and location and angle of the stars ;). I think that is great (**Attention-NFL Football team reference coming) as even to this day I complain about the "new" Patriots "Flying Elvis" logo and blue shirts that replaced the original "Pat the Patriot" logo and red jerseys. Even though the shirts changed, I still support the team. Hopefully, whether wearing an "original"/current WISH shirt, a personalized WISH shirt or a high school gym shirt, the team will support each other (to the extent those team mates are identified/identifiable).

I hope everyone has a great Sunday and week of training.

I saw the sun today! And was it nice and warm finally. LOL.

I took my Girl Scout troop to the University of Hawaii for Sports Day, where they played tennis, jumped rope, and played volleyball with all the female UH athletes.

I will be out on my Sunday 8 miler around Diamondhead Crater and back.

Enjoy the Pro Bowl, it should be a nice day. But the weather forecasters are still saying it's going to be wet again next week.

Dear friends:

My purpose with the teams was to get everyone through the post marathon weekend depression that a lot of us do. To get us through the cold of winter and the heat of summer and stay motivated.

But even more so I took what Lily said to heart. I wanted to make all the people who normally just lurk feel more comfortable posting and letting us get to know them.

In addition I wanted us to have fun. It sure looks like we have a lot more people posting regularly. We have already met some wonderful new people.

When we go to Disney we all break up into smaller groups and have fun, we don't all stay in a group, this is no different. We still have our group meetings but it's natural for people to make special friends that have similar interests to hang with the other times.

I'm removing the prizes from the game since that seems to be an issue. It wasn't going to be a new BMW anyway, maybe a medal or a stuffed panda for the winners.

I try to keep the teams even with a strong miles person or to on each team. I keep the rules as lienient as possible to encourage people to do something. The person who can't walk over a block is still an important member of the WISH.

I am so sorry if people think it's splitting the WISH up. I never intended for that to happen. We are a family but a huge family. I will be happy to just stop the game if that's what everyone wants.

Dave: First of all, I think the panda needs a group hug...:grouphug:

I think there are a lot of issues right now within the team. There are a lot of new people (myself included) who are throwing out ideas and trying to participate in a way that they feel will improve the team. There is also a contingent of originals who want to keep things status quo. Herein seems to lay the problem.

For myself, I can say that none of the ideas I have suggested were meant to be anything more than an idea to be tossed around. I never meant to cause hate and discontent but, alas, one misconstrued word or text taken outside its true meaning has caused a lot of problems for a lot of people lately. I think that Erin posted on the shirt thread that everyone needs to step back and take a breath. We newbies are not trying to change things, we are trying to make it better. Sometimes change is not better, but sometimes if it brings more people in and together, it is.

Dave, I love the miles challenge. I am someone who needs goals and a reason to move sometimes. I never did care about prizes or being the best, I just want to encourage everyone on my team to be THEIR best. I love everyone I have met virtually or in person from the WISH team, they are all an inspiration in different ways. I don't think the miles challenge has changed that as we are still the same people inside. I don't think a new shirt color, hat color, design or anything else will change that, because we are still the same people inside.

Too many feelings have been hurt without meaning to be and I truly feel bad for that. I think we all just need to breathe in and feel the WISH team love that is really out there. :flower3:

Good Morning WISH Team,

Just checking in to say hello. :wave2: I've been mostly cross-training these days (snow shoveling :headache: !) with a little treadmill running mixed in. No more events/races planned for me until the end of May; just trying to keep a fitness base throughout the winter.

Have a great week everyone.

**Positive Influence Panda** In my opinion, there is no need to stop the game. It has greatly influenced and motivated people to get moving and exercising and has brought many out of lurkdom. My hope is just that people don't forget about the weekly thread as a place to share/exchange information and ideas.

First, I agree. Dave, :grouphug:

As a VERY new WISHer, I wouldn't expect my ideas or input to be given the same weight as people who have been here for months, or more. We all know that being a "member" of a group for years doesn't mean you are contributing to that group and that being new doesn't mean your ideas are terrible, BUT.... we also know that new people may not stick around.

In October few years ago, I joined a gym (which, sadly, has since closed or I'd be in amazing shape--I loved that place!). Come January, the place was full. By March, the gym closed because not enough people kept up with their memberships. Part of the problem is that the owner tried to cater to the wishes of the people who showed up in January, and some of those decisions made it difficult for those of us who had been going five days a week for a couple months. In the end, those decisions didn't help anyone because the gym went out of business.

That said, as a new person, I'd like to echo what has been said on so many threads--I just want a shirt so I feel like I belong and people can identify me! Since I'm stil trying ot wrangle a way to get to the Minnie, it is really important to me that I have a lime green shirt with the "classic" logo on it. I don't think that having "third jerseys" is a team-breaker; I think the arguments that have resulted from those jerseys could be.

I worry that the sniping and arguments might make this place feel less welcoming and supportive. Lots of people are lurkers, and they might not feel comfortable lurking any more. I would hate to think that.

I appreciate that it hurts people's feelings when they are told their size doesn't exist, or that they are the wrong size or shape to fit into the existing clothes. I live with it all the time. Being short and thin and having a cartoon shape, it is hard to find clothes that fit. I have had sales people tell me my size does not exist, and it hurt my feelings. No one should feel that way.

I like that RR offered to cut lime shirts to fit those of us who are smaller and needed a specific style of shirt. I don't care if someone else wants a watermarked shirt. I don't care if someone wants a more yellow shirt made of cotton. I don't see that a few shades between lime and safety yellow are deal breakers for any of this.

The reason we are all here is so we can get in shape and embrace a healthy lifestyle. We live in a fragmented world where neighbors don't necessarily have the same interests. I have people in the "real world" who are training for the Donald, and who, in fact, talked me into it. That said, our schedules and training levels aren't the same. So I found this WISH team so that I would not be alone while I figure this whole "being active" thing out.

I love that the small challenge teams help us get to know people better. I have trouble keeping up with these longer threads, myself. But I suspect that the alternative will be that people will not post and/or not read this thread without those smaller threads.... I like the challenge teams, and I like that there are people watching that I really get off the sofa. It's a team, and I'm letting people down if I don't do my workout. Nice. :)

Okay. Done rambling. Since I have switched this week to the less-aggressive Bingham plan, today is rest day. Tomorrow, I work out, but with less intensity than I've been pushing myself.

Thanks for listening if you bothered to read this. I understand if you skipped to the bottom. :)

Good Morning Everyone!

Another beautiful sunrise this morning! I love my new front porch. I haven't had time to fix my new house up at all, but lucky for me, my daddy bought me a rocking chair for my front porch as a house warming gift. There is something inspiring about sitting and watching the day begin.

As for the WISH team, we are suffering from growing pains. It's a good thing. Embrace the changes that are a natural result of that growth.

I think the challenge teams have a very positive effect. They are motivating. They also make this very large board more personal. I have noticed that with the challenge teams keeping the weekly thread less crowded that we have heard from several new runners. Those voices would have been drown out just a few weeks ago.

I run a lot, but it wasn't so long ago that a mile or 3 miles was a huge success. I love hearing about those mile stones and sharing thei excitement. Keep it coming.

Have a great day everyone!

:grouphug: Panda Dave...your heart is absolutely in the right place with this challenge. You've been nothing but a gentleman, nothing but supportive and really tried your best to make the game fun and exciting. As a competitive person, it really drives me, and I love having the smaller team group to check in with as the large thread can be overwhelming, even for someone who's been hanging around the WiSH forum since early '06. NE Bill....don't mind me ;)....I was honestly just trying to explain my position. Beyond that...once the initial excitement wears off...and it will to some extent...I think that everyone will be in a routine of posting in both threads.

And remember...there is no reason to stay away from someone's team thread just because they aren't your team. I read what others are doing for ideas and inspiration. Seeing what types of workouts people are finding, how well others are doing, saying "hi" to some kindred spirits on other teams. Even talking sci-fi with my bud Deb :). Anyway...for the most part the team challenge has actually allowed me to get to know a lot of people better. :goodvibes

Shirts...I think what happened here is that words and meaning can be taken out of context in this format. I haven't weighed in on the issues up until now because it's just become such a sticky matter. I'm very much go with the flow on this subject. A lighter weight option is a great idea however, that's my only issue, because I usually wear singlets when I race (unless it's super chilly). Everyone involved with the shirts has put in a lot of time and we thank you for volunteering to do so! :thumbsup2

I think as this group continues to grow it is just natural that smaller groups will form within anyway. There are just SO MANY people to try to get to know. I don't think having the smaller groups really takes away from the intent of this wonderful place. Everyone knows to go to the events thread for advice, questions, information, friendly discourse. I truly don't think the integrity of the boards will be lost. Just give this game some time to shake out and figure it's place in the grand scheme. I don't think we should throw it out the window yet. JMHO :goodvibes

I don't post much on this board because I am more of a numbers person than a people person. The challenge got me to exercise every day this week but Wednesday. In the past I tend to only keep up with the Saturday exercise, probably why I had shin splints for the marathon.

If it wasn't for this group and their support, I would not be the proud owner of a Mickey medal. i have to thank my daughter for giving up a decent time for sticking with me until the last 3 miles. She needed to go ahead to get her second goofy medal. The scream teamers were life savers through out the full 26.2 miles. The group at the Beach Club, where I was handed a bottle of cold water and told I was doing great, made me finally realize I was almost done and would get the Medal. Many thought I got swept but there were still people at the W tent when I finished. I realize doing only the weekend training was not the smartest but I had no motivations to do the rest.

We were able to follow the WISHers ahead of us by their shirts. We were almost able to catch up with Cam & Rhonda by following their shirts. I slowed down and barely stayed ahead of the sweepers but it was comforting to see team mates ahead.

This exercise challenge is keeping me moving when I would rather crash after work. Maybe my body will be in better shape come next years Marathon Weekend.

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement throughout the year. I am considering signing up for the Half in 2009. I am also considering the marathon in Hawaii in December with the girls. I need goals to keep me going and get me out of my chair.

Lynnda - hope your family is feeling better soon. So sorry to hear little Timmy is not doing well. :grouphug: :grouphug: Feel better soon.

Good morning WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday. It is a beautiful day today in NW Florida.

Not much training to report (2 miles on the TM on Thursday) as I’m still feeling the effects of my bout with pneumonia. I did buy a new pair of running shoes (Asics 2130). Maybe I’ll christen them today.

A few ramblings from a grumpy, old, retired Senior NCO.

I agree that we’re experiencing some growing pains. That’s a good thing, and remember, “this too shall pass.”

WWDave – The team competition is great. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. Like Amy said, once everyone gets in the groove, things will work themselves out. No worries here.

PatsBill – luv ya, brutha!

The shirt deal. I’m all about choices, but I’d hate to see this splinter the group. I love the original shirt. Heck, I just put an order in for an additional one. But, I also understand the reasoning behind a lighter fabric and a shirt cut for a better fit, and the idea of a “bolder” looking shirt. I don’t have a problem with any of them. I just think the “WISH Team” (That means everyone, old and new) need to discuss it (and we have) and decide what’s best for the team. JMHO

To all of our new teammates – I apologize if I haven’t formally welcomed you. So, :welcome:

Lynnda - Hope the family is feeling better.

Cam - Hope you're feeling better

One last thing. In these days of turmoil and strife, let me offer this to everyone.

The Cheeseburger of Peace. ;)

Take care. :)

Good Morning Everyone

I obviously missed the "spirited discussions" which took place last week. Once the semester begins I sort of parachute in and out, based on my available time, plus I have spent more time relatively figuring out the training game.

First, you'll notice I called it a GAME, not a competition, as that's how I see it. I like the way it is set up, miles by any self-propulsion method, and total hours of weight, yoga, pilates, etc., or CV exercise. This allows all to include all our time, so for me, the 30 minutes of weight work I do twice a week gets picked up in the game, although I don't show it in my own training log, which only captures running, x-training, and biking time. If the game helps motivate some folks that's great. In my case I cannot imagine the game will squeeze 1 more mile or minute out of me, and I'm content with that too.

As structured, the folks who are doing heaving biking, perhaps for a biathlon or triathlon will be the big miles contributors and the teams with lots of these people, and the team construction was pretty random, will accumulate the most miles by far. I'm fine with that, and hope others are as well, since biking is certainly a CV exercise, and I didn't think WWDave was handing out the keys to his blue Mustang to the winning team anyway. Now if the red Ducati of my dreams was the prize, I'd go to the whip today on my team members.

Second, regarding shirts and sizes, I'm really glad I missed any and all chippy comments about that. There are a few of us who are very nicely proportioned, but I think it's fair to say a few of us would like to drop a few pounds. Personally, If I could just drop 10 pounds I'd be sooooo happy, and I'm sure my Oct 2009 TOT would be in 69 instead of last fall's 72. C'est la vie. Thankfully no one here has ever pointed out those 10 extra pounds I carry, and I hope I've never made similar comments to others. I think I'm in the majority here in the opinion that this isn't acceptable. Period.

Third, I'm almost as happy that I missed the chippy comments about the just terminated football season. Our passions and caring are what make us feel alive. I just don't see any reason for pointed comments to another person about their passions. Good natured teasing among very good friends is entirely different, however, and that may be a cause of some misunderstanding here. As Heather posted, this little group has been mixing for years, and some of the people have become incredibly good friends, witness the 7 Minnies. You may see a comment that looks a bit over the top, but it may be between 2 such friends, and enjoyed both ways. Don't look to offend, and don't look to be offended.

It wouldn't be me without some type of generally rude comment (not pointed at anyone, peace dude :hippie: ), so here it is. After watching about 2/3 of last sunday's football, I suspect I've watched my last American football game as a matter of principle. Well at least I thought I had tuned in to watch football. I had really noticed this trend during fall football games, but Sunday was too much:

A few plays - 3 commercials - touchdown - 4 commercials - point after kick - 3 commercials - kick off - 4 commercials - 3 plays and punt - 4 commercials. Repeat for several hours.

I have many reasons why soccer is better than football, and here is one of them. On March 16 the 3 of us have tickets to see Everton play Fulham in west London. At 1:30 the match will kick off. The first half will be played straight through without breaks or TV timeouts. Halftime will take 10-15 minutes. The second half will start, and will go about 48 minutes with injury time, again without breaks or TV timeouts. We'll be out of the stadium a bit before 3:30. No wonder American TV hates the game, there aren't any breaks in play so they can bombard us with "a few words from out sponsors."

By the way, I have registered for the Minnie. I love the 15K distance. Today is the first tempo workout, half mile repeats, training to hold sub-9 mmpm pace on May 4. So I'll see many of you ladies on early May. I would make the required comment about hoping for a cool and dry morning, but I assume on May 4 in Orlando that isn't bloody likely.

I personally never read any comments that were negative towards anyone in the whole shirt drama. :confused3

I know this group would still accept me even though I still have a massive leftover mommy belly that will probably be hanging to my knees in another twenty years or so. I can't say that for people that I come across thru my daily life - neighborhood, DH's co-workers and friends...

I appreciate that, this place will let me try to run w/o judging me like I shouldn't be trying. And most importantly, encourage me when I have nobody at home (except DH) doing so.

As a VERY new WISHer, I wouldn't expect my ideas or input to be given the same weight as people who have been here for months, or more.

Actually I think everyone on the team has an equal vote/voice, new or old. I think that's the cool thing about this forum. If the 100+ of us met IRL once a month, most of us would sit in the back while 4 or 5 people did all the talking. Online, everyone gets to have a voice.

I agree with Cecilia, feels like growing pains. We've grown a little bit every year, but I think last year, we experienced phenomenal growth.

Generally, this time of year is a time of change for the team. Marathon weekend's over so there's more time to deal with team administrative stuff. When we started the weekly threads (Jan 2005) I used to try to post a question at the beginning of each week just to get people talking (and I was new so I had a lot of questions back then ;) ). Now the team is easily self-sustaining. I think Dave's game idea is brilliant and a great way to take some of the pressure off the weekly thread. I see a lot of people mentioning that the weekly threads are overwhelming and I feel bad because I can't fix that. I think the game helped.

Dave...don't stop the game. I like the small group because I'm getting to know people like Nancy and Jeanne who hangout more on the walkers thread. We've also found out there's a bunch of secret Trekkies on my team and Jeff's and a bunch of us are turning 40 together this year (that way I don't have to go kicking and screaming into the next decade alone ;) )

I look at these smaller groups like the Minnie group, Philly group, Walkers group etc as Special Interest Groups. We're a large enough team now that we can accomodate these SIGs while still maintaining our integrity and group focus as a team.

I do sometimes miss the 'old' days when we were smaller and everyone knew everyone. I still can't believe there were people at the Pop meet that I didnt' get to meet  But I don't think growth is bad and I don't want to stop. Every person that joins us means that what we're doing is good and right and beautiful. I really enjoy new members joining us, especially those folks who are brand new to the journey like I was back in the day. Being 'old' around here, I miss the excitement of that first year's discoveries about the things my body could do that I never would have imagined. It's great to have the new folks coming in because their enthusiasm is infectious and I feel like I can give back to them with what I've learned from a team that has given me so much.

Shirts...I'll take the hit on that one. I was the one that pushed for the new tech shirts, then stepped back and asked if we were doing too much with all the options floating around. Mega apologies for all the turmoil. It was never my intention to make other teammates feel excluded or divided.

Well...I'm still relatively new here.

I must have missed a bunch of stuff, though...there are people who don't want to do the challenge? Is it because of some smack talk or people wanting it to be sort of competitive? I am competitive, and I sure would like our team to post big numbers....but I wouldn't come down on anyone who does less...we're all at different levels of fitness, different degrees of time available, life happens, etc... I think if it propels anyone to get up and go for a walk, or walk/run a little more often, or whatever, then that is great!!! I'll be putting up bigger numbers later in the spring and summer, but it's not to make anyone feel bad...it's just part of my training...and yes, I'd like to "keep up" with some of the other athletes.

No opinion on the shirts...missed that whole discussion.

And....what is LTO/WTO????

thanks!
Happy training/moving/being healthy!!!:thumbsup2

Thank you for the cheering up words. I have to admit when I came on this morning and read the weekly I was very upset. I love the WISH people and the WISH concept. I was hurt deeply that people thought I was breaking up the board with my game idea.

I see the WISH as an ideal that stands for something more than it's parts. A lot of us carry the scars of many of lifes battles. Someone once said that true courage and character is judged by how many times you can take what life hands you and still get back up and go on.

True happiness is not chasing being "perfect", some times you have to accept what you can do and what you can't. WISH to me is kinda about that. We are all equally special wonderful people reguardless of our strengths and weaknesses.

A special thank you to those of you who sent me PMs to cheer me up, believe me it helped a lot.

I think that's the cool thing about this forum. If the 100+ of us met IRL once a month, most of us would sit in the back while 4 or 5 people did all the talking. Online, everyone gets to have a voice.

I can see this - and I just think I'd add that sometimes this forum/medium can have misinterpretations... so every post I read I keep in mind... if they were sitting around my kitchen table - it would sound differently!!

Maybe we can make a scavenger hunt, and you can collect signatures for meeting people--what a great way to remember!

As For the Game- I do no think we should stop it completely, and the prize at the end started out as a good idea. But there was one team stacked with two Ironmen and that makes it hard for some of the other teams to keep up. With that said we are hear as a team for ourselves and I have met some really great people that are fellow bunnies. I try to post when I can and get the miles that I should be doing anyway in for my team. It is a great motivator, the Game caused my to go to the Gym at 8pm when I got out of work when I normally would have just come home and been a potato. I have been feeling like I have more energy now and just feel better in my skin.

As a team- I have never really posted all that much between things that have been going on in my life. But I feel like I have been here as a part of the group for three years now. I embrace change, the team has different needs now. I think Trail's End would throw a revolt if we took this group to it. So we changed where we meet up, we have a bigger demand for the shirts and hats and other wish team merchandise. So we have been out looking for new vendors and going back to old vendors asking if they can do the same thing with their new lime green color. We are keeping the designs the same but accommodating more people.

As Far as Eyetoeye- I think the biggest problem with the Eyetoeye proposal is we gave them the design we wanted initially and they changed it. If the company is willing to work with the specifics that we want I say go ahead with them. They will be much more convenient for new wishers to get their shirts and not feel left out at races between the order cycles.

Dave,
Seriously I think you were very good at organizing the teams without having the sorting cap - or did you???

(For instance, our team may have a triathlete on it - but it also has me!! I'm a newbie, in this running/walking arena - and I would so worry that I'd be dragging a team down, I would just resign... but knowing while I'm struggling with everything, my team wont suffer... and I think I just may be inspired by them too!! That has to be a good thing!)

Erin, we have a lot of unsung heroes on here so don't count them out. A lot of our princesses are more than even they realize. Each team has some real power houses, some of them just haven't realized it yet.

I learned first hand that the power comes from within. When I went to the State Senior Games competition as a racewalker, I had no chance of winning anything, I just went because some of my walking friends were going. When I got there I was insulted by a racewalking teacher who had brought his best students there to compete. He told me to just watch and learn then next time I might be competitive. When our age group race started I was in the back, then something inside clicked, I quit worring about pace and oxygen debt and not being worthy, I gave it everything I had to give. When the race was over I had a bronze medal and a ticket to the National Senior olympics. The "real" racewalkers were a lot nicer then.

You are going to see some amazing things from our people this year, many of them have the fire, they just, like me have to believe it. They have to dare to dream.

Some of my heroes are starting to realize they have more inside than they ever realized already.

Dave has the sorting hat?! That is so cool!

Seriously, Sandy, our team also has *me.* I've been walking for three weeks. THREE weeks. I have no idea how far I can walk. I've never tried. I have health issues and, as my grandmother always put it, a "birth defect" in that my hip joints aren't constructed properly. Sometimes my thigh bone just slides out of the socket. :confused3 Then I have to pop it back in (which isn't the most fun thing). So, I don't know what I can do, and like you, I worried that I would drag the team down. Instead, I am inspired to keep going and to try new things (I thought about the triathlon, but I think you have to get your face wet? I don't get my face wet).

Anyway, I am less focused on the group result and more focused on being able to tell the team I did my best every week. :)

Hi everyone!

Vic - that cheeseburger looks so good right now! Virtual cheeseburger = 0 calories. :teeth:

Dave - I, too, love the miles challenge. Lisa is doing a fantastic job as our team leader - very inspiring and motivating. The others on the team are inspring as well. I learn from each and everyone. Thanks for organizing this for us. It might be kind of fun to change the teams up a bit during the summer...you know, kind of how they do on some of the reality shows. However, now that I think about it, it's probably way more trouble than it's worth.

As for growing pains, it happens. I love that we have so many new people! I was a newbie myself a year and a half ago....seems like yesterday. My problem is that I have trouble keeping up with the weekly thread now. I feel like I miss out on a lot. However, it's the tie that binds us all together. :goodvibes

I would like to see something new, though. A virtual coach thread...or something similar. More coach talk than mixed talk. There are times I need advice but I feel like a post might get lost in the weekly thread. However, please don't take this wrong. I'm not suggesting the tips or tricks or weekly help taken out of the weekly thread. Maybe I don't know what I'm asking here.

On another note, there was an article in my local paper about a 34-year-old man who has a mild form of cerebral palsy. When he was young, the doctors told his parents that he would never walk. However, he learned not only to walk, but to run, with some adjustments and with the encouragement from his parents. Today, he competes in two or three marathons a year. His last marathon was the Chicago marathon of '07 which he did get to complete. Just goes to show you that sometimes it is mind over matter. Very inspiring.

As a newbie on the thread, I did want to add that one thing I have REALLY liked with the game is that it has given me a group to belong to, a place to connect, and a way to get to konw people. Although I was at the half this year, I felt very outside and this gives me specific people to look for and feel like I know. Just a little positive press for the game. :)

I really don't have much to say that hasn't already been said.

Dave - I was hesitant at first on the team challenge, but now that it is going I think it is fabulous. I have been under the weather this week and LTO/WTO (work take over, life take over for the person that asked)... but the challenge did force me to get in 15 minutes of core when I was up to it. That is what the challenge is all about. And as I checked over the team stats last night, I think they seem very fair. We have a tri-athlete on our team as do others. Even if a person can't rack up the miles, they have the same opportunity as everyone else to put in hours. Don't feel bad about organizing it. I love it.

Mel - I totally agree about meeting other people. I love talking with Jeanne and Debra. These were two people that were around us during the marathon, but I knew very little about them. And we didn't even know Debra was a WISHer, she was just that really nice person that kept leap frogging with us.

So I really don't want to gripe or complain at all. The WISH group has been my family since late 2005. When I talk about my running team, no one has a clue that I haven't met 1/2 of them. We are growing immensely, but let's not lose site of the purpose. Gosh knows I have had my feelings hurt here before, but as my momma says... just suck it up and move on. There are better things to worry about in life!!!

Kira G.
02-10-2008, 01:48 PM
I'd like to add something too.

I'm a newbie here. And I'm generally a lurker on whatever board I'm on (look at my join date on the Dis and compare to my post count and you'll get an idea of just how much of a lurker I am!!). However, the supportive and wonderful atmosphere here has gotten me to post as much here in a month as I generally do on the Dis in a year! And I really want to thank everyone for that - you guys are great.

Whatever growing pains you may be going through, just know that who this group really is communicates loud and clear, and is a source of inspiration and motivation to me each and every day.

MouseDogMom

What I've always liked most about WISH is that unlike any other DIS thread, everyone is always nice and supportive and there is never any worry about being flamed. No matter what other topic I venture into, somehow it always turns ugly, so I pretty much stick to the WISH boards exclusively now. This group is special because we are supportive no matter what - no matter what shirt we're wearing, or what hat we're wearing, or what team we're on, or what team we're pulling for in the Super Bowl. Everyone is welcome here, regardless of their ability or speed. That's what really matters.

We are experiencing growing pains. We've gotten so big that it was hard to meet everyone at the POP meet. I know after I left I kept thinking of people I hadn't seen even though I knew they were there. Things to work on for next year, when there will be even more members!

Lynnda – Hope y’all are feeling better soon! :wizard:

Mel – Great job on the 4 miles!

Tigger Jeff – Hope your 12 miles went well.

HI Jeff – Glad you finally got some sunny weather! WTG on the 8 miles!

Betsy – LTO/WTO = Life took over/work took over. I forget who came up with that (was it Sunny?), but isn’t it a great acronym?

Vic - That cheeseburger looks absolutely delightful!

DH and I took the baby out on a walk today (only his third one so far) since the weather was nice. We didn’t time it, but we went roughly 1.5 miles at a nice, slow pace. It was nice to get out there and do something!

Wow, what a difference a couple of days makes here. I agree with what everyone's pretty much said already. WISH is a welcoming place, it's just growing and with that growth comes change, and the Challenge/Game & discussions about the shirts are just part of that growth.

"When you're finished changing, you're finished." ~Ben Franklin

FWIW, one of things I like about WISH is this willingness to talk about things without all the drama & second-guessing & secret hurt feelings. IF WISH was perfect, I wouldn't be here because I'd be too flipping insecure to join the ranks. But you make me feel like I have something valuable to contribute, in my imperfection and my snarkiness and my non-athletic clumsiness.

What's more, I'm glad for the growth, with all its growing pains, and for the challenge. I'm a lurker who came out of hiding because of the Goofy, decided to stay out after having met some cool WISHers during race weekend, and have felt welcomed here in part because of the challenge and the good-natured ribbing of the teams (not to mention the friendliness of all the people posting on various WISH threads).

I like the challenge not because it taps into my competitive nature--although it does--and not because it makes me do anything to try and win the challenge. The challenge, like WISH in general, just encourages me to attempt my best, try new things, to succeed and to fail, and to laugh at myself. I can't ask for a better place, a place where people celebrate my attempts with me as much, if not more, than I do myself.

I could go on about how much I've enjoyed meeting and getting to know people through the challenge, the weekly threads, the races, etc., and I probably will in some future, long-winded post. (Go figure.) I've definitely benefited from WISH advice, thoughtfulness, humor, encouragement, and trash-talking. But I'll save all that stuff for another time. Instead, I'd like to address WWDave, Mel, or anyone else who's graciously & needlessly taking too much weight for any passing, minor (IMO) discomfort on the WISH boards. I quoted Ben Franklin above, now let me quote me, single-life, circa 1990: "It's not about you, it's about me." There's no reason for the apologies, the mea culpas, the feel-bads, or the overwhelming sense of responsibility for what's going on. Not only are these discussions not that serious in the overall scheme of things, they're productive. They demonstrate we as individuals and as a collective are invested in what's going on. We're all part of the WISH family (gratuitous Ohana reference).

And what's more, even if we were involved in screaming, knock-down, hair-pulling fights (my real-world family), any perceived dysfunction of the WISH family doesn't fall on your shoulders. We're all participating in this team, we're all adults, and we're all responsible for what's going on. Any responses any of us have to what's going on the results of our own doing--we own our actions, reactions, and feelings. So don't blame yourself, we don't. After all, "It's not (simply) about you, it's about me." What I do/don't do, how I act/don't act, and how I choose/don't choose to participate comes down to me. You're involved to some extent, of course, but really, it's all about me. (Oh, yeah, I was fun to date, wasn't I? :lmao:)

Now, here's to another fun-filled supportive week of WISH, of well-WISHers, and another week of the miles/minutes challenge. (In which Ohana, of course, kicks butt--maybe not yours, but someone's butt--while wearing some form of WISH shirt.;) )

This group is supportive. Completely, totally. DH runs with a bunch of people from work and they all are trying to beat each other's times. I don't like that - who's faster than who. I want support and encouragement and you can get it here. I don't see the game in that way, I see it as a way to push each other to do more. It is not done in a mean way, but in a fun way. :thumbsup2

Oh cool! Can we all stand in line for each so that we feel like real Disney Princesses?!!! I guess we have to take turns standing in each others lines....

Oh! I forgot.
Only one comment about the shirts: Would it be possible to leave room for everyone to put their names on the front? Yes, Disney puts the name on the bib but most races don't and we all know its more fun to hear your name and/or to cheer by name. Plus it would help us out when we see each other at races.

I had a great workout today, literally kicked butt and took names. It's due to (1) my desire to hang with this group in the weekly training, particularly the one and only Martha, and (2) my wish to stand tall and represent my club well on May 4 when I run the 15K with many of my friends. I so love races between 6 and 13 miles, training means distance and pace, not just "15 this weekend, 16 next weekend, 17 . . ., repeat."

You guys keep motivating me, and I'll keep training and hopefully improving.

Best to everyone. And Cam, tell Howard to forget that dumb homework. Doesn't he know he's allowed to have "last semester-itis?"

My run this afternoon was one of the toughest I've had in awhile. I'm guessing it was from the 8 miles I ran on Friday? I had to run 3 miles. I got a decent pace in for me - 10:33, but it was like everything was going wrong for me - my legs felt like lead, left knee hurt, allergies acting up, shorts underneath running skirt kept creeping up, kept burping up my salad from lunch and the wind was very intense. So you can say it wasn't so good a run. :rotfl2:

I don't know why my running skirt is no longer working for me. It used to be once I got a little sweat up and going they would stay in place. Not any more! Maybe it is the extra pounds I'm now carrying... :headache: Anyway, it drove me CRAZY. I've tried Bodyglide and it didn't help them stay in place. :confused3

DH is off to see Van Halen tonight. A friend called last minute and off he went. Our anniversary is tomorrow and it ain't looking so romantic. :sad2: He did complete his 11.5 trail run this morning. I was a tad worried cause I didn't think he was totally prepared and he had a cold. I should have known better - he runs half as much as me and yet can pull anything off. Men! He had a good pace, but tripped over a branch around mile 7 and tore up his knee. Hopefully, it will be OK. It is a tad swollen and our half is next month.

Well, working today threw off any chance of getting to the gym. That might have been a good thing, in a way. It forced me to be a bit creative and find another outlet.

So, I did 2 Leslie Sansone tapes -- Walk & Jog and Walk & Kick. I'm not sure I'll do the kickboxing one again since I am not good at avoiding twisting my knees on some of the moves.

When I was first recovering from heart surgery and trying to lose weight, I did her Walk Away the Pounds tapes several times a week. I remember how amazing it was when I graduated to each longer distance, up to three miles. I am thinking that some of these sessions throughout the week might be a good way to be active when I am spending up to 12 or 16 hours at a desk on any given day.

Craig -- you tell him! He might listen to you! He even already has a job for after graduation, so I can only attribute his diligence to an inherently strong work ethic. :lovestruc :worship:

Over the last 4 years soooooo many of you have laughed, cried, encouraged, prodded and supported me and all of the rest of us through so much. If I need encouragement, support, words of advise, or just a laugh to brighten up a crappy day this is the very first place I go :grouphug:

Admittedly, I am more of a regular poster on the MCM/Philly thread but I was deeply saddened to read of recent controversy on the main thread so I just wanted to chime in with some general sentiments.
I have been a WISH'er since October 2005. At that time I was already a runner and a WDW addict and it was so nice to connect with folks who shared similiar passions. Since day one everyone here has been so welcoming and inspiring to anyone who joins our family no matter where we are in our athletic endeavors or our seasons in life.
I don't post much on this thread anymore due to time constraints and the fact that I don't feel comfortable sporadically posting an "all about me" post when I can't intelligently comment on others posts on the thread. Most of the old-time WISH'ers know me and know where to find me if needed:thumbsup2 . That being said, I would give any of you the shirt off my back and I bet that most other WISH'ers feel the same. Please don't get caught up in the petty issues and take away from the spirit of the WISH team:grouphug: . I have met some of the greatest people due to WISH and I am forever grateful for that. I really don't care what shirts we wear or how we choose to motivate ourselves around here. When all is said and done I will still bleed WISH LIME GREEN whenever I am out there as a competitor as a statement of solidarity with my brothers and sisters who share this journey with me.
Love you guys:love:

Mel - Thanks so much for the update on MelR, Phil and 'the boy.'

Catching up from last week (and it's only page 4 here. Woo hoo!)

Bubba - SO glad teh work outs are coming. Keep up the good work!

Steve - Glad Krista was able to rescue you!

Anne - Thanks for the news on SUsie. Looks liek we're all accoutned for now!

Kristi - :grouphug: Part of this is teh chaos from post marathon. We're all riding high or trying to keep fm post-wdw depression adn people who signed up for their frist amrathon are riding high too. Things will calm down a bit.

It is hard with some of the separate threads. I'm just realizing ther are people on teh walker thread that I don't knwo at all, then ther are newbies on teams, a young poeple thread. So great that we can find easier places to get to know each other, but please keep in touch here too. I do hope that everyone continues to pop in here, even if you don't have time to keep up with everyone.

OK, on to this weeks news.

OK, caught up with this week. Looks liek we are back to being real WISHers again.

I think the hardest part is we are so used to the warmth her etha twhen anythings trays from that at all, it feels awful to us. yes, let' all pick a thread on teh community board or DVC and see how firendly even our least friendly threads look campared to that. ;)

Mel - You did what had been wanted since last year and you took the job no one else wanted. You did your best. No need to feel anythign is your fault. :grouphug:

Teams - I PM'd DAve with this because I didn't know when I'd get a chance to post. I am a very competitive person. So, I need that competition. I need teh feeling that I can't let my team down. WIth that in mind, I have tried to make it clear to my team that this is to keep us motivated and I don't want anyone to worry if tehy don't rack up the miles.

It seems like teh captains should be making that clear, liek Craig said. As long as the captiains continue to reinforce that it's about geting ourselves in gear and saying there, ther should not eb a problem. That being said, probably time for me to remind my team of that again. ;)

The teams have done a great job of making new WISHers feel like part of this team. I do hope that it will help them warm up to posting here, too. :goodvibes

OK, on to regular me type posts. What will TM season be over??? I've had enough of this cold, snow adn ice!!!! 6 Miles on teh TM Saturday was alomost more tahn I caould handle. However, my legs are holdign up adn I'm pretty happy witht that!

Serisouly, I think this is great for motivation adn great fo newbies to get a feel fro things outside of teh monster weekly thread. We just need to make sure everyoen knows they are part of a bigger team.

Aloha Jeff- How on earth did you find that video? It was fun to see but you must really have had to dig through youtube to find it.

As for me I did not do much this past weekend just due to some school stuff that I needed to get done. But I did get 18 miles and just under two hours in. I started the younger Wish thread to try to draw some of our younger members out of lurkdom but am still waiting to see if it fails. As you can see I am still posting over here more than I have in the past three years. Well I should go hit the bike.

Good Morning TEAM!!! I'm a newbie and do not post over here regularly--mainly just because it is so hard to keep up with everyone. I do lurk quite a bit just to see what's going on...

I just wanted to chim in w/ my 2 cent with everything that's been going on...

I tend to get stressed out easily and put alot of pressure on myself... I have to constantly remind myself of 2 things...

NO WORRIES

RELAX

I think as a TEAM, we should all take these two sayings into account. It seems everyone is now getting a long a little better and we have just experienced growing pains...

At the end of the day, we are a TEAM. We are all striving toward the same goal--to be healthier, happier people. No matter if we are just starting out and training for our first 5K or if we are Goofy or Triathalon training, we still all have the same goal--to be healthier. It doesn't matter if our shirts are little bit of a different shade of lime green or not. We are still a team. I don't think anyone would intentionally try to be ugly to someone or hurt another's feelings. I'm glad to see that everything is now starting to calm down.

I'm so happy to have found this thread 6 months ago. The support from my journal and those on this board really helped get me to my first 5K. I know the same will happen for others. I get support from my family and friends, but not like this. To have others working towards the same goals as you is awesome. I really think everyone on here has a really good heart and it shows. Thanks to all y'all who have put in kind words along the way!

Happy training everyone!

Thanks for the invitation. Unfortunately by April 6 my longer runs will probably be 8-9 miles. Stepping into a half marathon with that base would make for 9 fun and 4 totally miserable miles, and I had enough misery on January 13. If you go for it good luck. Regarding the hills, remember it makes you a better person  .

I didn't get to talk with you much at the marathon finish, but I wanted to let you know that seeing you on the out and back did a lot for me mentally. While my first reaction to separate threads is weariness, it is an easier place to jump in when you are with people of your own age group. Good morning, team, not much to report, just popping in to say hi.
I'm glad that all of our issues are getting resolved, like other people have said , I think it's due to our team getting bigger and that's a good problem to have. :)

NE Bill--It's all good. :thumbsup2

WW Dave--I LOVE the Miles/Hour challenge, this game is honestly the only motivation that is keeping me going right now. I can't really have goals like everyone else, like weight loss, getting stronger, etc, but my goal is simply to keep moving throughout the next few months and to keep from getting too fat. :rotfl:

Vic--Oh my gosh, that burger looks fabulous! You know the only thing I am craving now is beef.

Amy--How is your arm/shoulder today? Make sure you get some rest. Oh, and get that bike repair kit ASAP, I don't want to have to google the street you're on, map out how to get there and come and rescue you too! ;)

Scott--See above!

Erin--You are a biking machine! I think your thread for younger people is a good idea, I sure wish I would have been as active as you when I was in college. I hope you get a lot people posting on there. By the way, what's your major?

Thanks for the update on Melissa R. I'm so relieved to know that she and Phil and the boy are okay. I wish she would come back and post on here again, I really miss her!

Debra--I just want to apologize to you, I'm pretty sure I've been spelling your name Deborah and as I person who always gets her name misspelled, I am SO sorry!!! :flower3:

Angie--Woo-Hoo on your 5 mile run!!! But PLEASE be careful and don't push too hard!

Sara--How is your hip feeling? Any better?

Cheryl--:welcome:

Kristi--Good luck training for your half!!! I know what you mean about being sad that our team is starting to break into smaller groups. But all that means is that we are going to have to try harder to post on the thread in addition to the sub threads. Oh, I thought of you this morning, I heard your boys on the radio on my way into work. :)

Okay, now an update on me, like I said not too much to report on the training front, but I'm planning on 3 or 4 miles on the TM tonight. Hopefully I'll get to Gold's tomorrow night and get an hour on the bike in. I say hopefully because the white death is coming tonight and according to some people, that will shut the city down.

Hey everyone,

I'm mostly a lurker. I wanted to say you all have been such an inspiration to me. I love to read all your posts and if not for this board I would not have signed up for the Disneyland 1/2.

I did 5 miles on the TM Saturday. That is the most I have ever done. Last year I was doing some walking and made it to 4 miles a couple of times. I am following Marathoning For Mortals.

Now an odd question. What do you think of while you are running?? I have not had one profound thought:rotfl: I am training on the TM until spring so I spend alot of the time looking at the display. My thoughts mostly seem to be about my form and how long until I switch from walking to running. I also try and keep myself looking up, instead of at the display (not always successful). I have a garage door opener that is an indoor substitute for the horizon:laughing:

Just popping in to say hi - man this thread moves WAY to fast. I think that may be why alot of people are breaking off into smaller groups. It is alot to go through on this main thread. There is NO way I can keep up with everyone and I don't want anyone to think I left them out on purpose (its just I have a very bad memory when it comes to remembering what I just read and who to attribute it too!!) Though I am glad to see the mood better this week then last week - LOL

As far as me - I had a 5k race yesterday and I didn't think I did that well. My legs were killing me - tightening up really bad. There were a few times throughout the race that I questioned my sanity on signing up for the marathon in Jan - if I am dying in a 3 mile race what is going to happen in a 26 mile race :scared1: - although I am planning on being way better trained then I am right now. My legs actually start feeling better after 3 miles (I remember the calves tightening up in the 1st mile of the TOT13k now that I think of it) I did end up finishing the race (though many times I felt like quitting) my time was 35:18 and I came in ahead of about 30 people (I was 201 and I think there was a total of 233) so at least I didn't quit and I wasn't DLF.

What stinks for me is when I first started running I was finishing up my Engineering degree with 2 kids at home so needless to say I had PLENTY to think about. But now that I am done and just have a job that doesn't require a lot of thought outside of business hours I get VERY bored when I run. Since I don't have a Garmin and I am very competitive with myself, I do spend a lot of time trying to figure out my pace for that run according to different finishing times.

Things have been very stressful at work so I spend a lot of time arguing with God about where I should work and what direction my life should take. :confused3

OK so that's my 2 cents on that subject gotta go back to work now

Ms.Duckie: I love the idea of a good scavenger hunt/autograph hound game for the Pop Meet. I'll never be able to remember everyone otherwise--heck, most days I can't remember my name.

Oh cool! Can we all stand in line for each so that we feel like real Disney Princesses?!!! I guess we have to take turns standing in each others lines....

Does this mean I need to learn how to curtsey to all the pretty princesses? :lmao:

Cam: You and Howard are the cutest! I keep meaning to check out your VR PJ because I'm sure you two will have the best time planning it and spreading the love! Also, good work with finding another means of exercising--who knows, it may re-energize you when you do have time to make it back to the gym. I do hope your work schedule stabilizes soon.

Craig: I can't imagine you'd do the club anything but proud!

Shan: Sorry about your run. I try to look at those moments where fate is promising me another day where everything just aligns perfectly. I also hope you have a great anniversary! :goodvibes

AlohaJeff and Matt: Thanks for the YouTube links. They brought back fond memories for me!

Sara: Thanks for your kind words. I think many of us share the feelings you do, and would share the shirts off our backs--especially the lime green ones!

Carrie: TM season? HAH! That gives me a new way to think of the weather. When I lived in Fargo, a good 6 months of the year was TM season--now I have to rethink things in Pgh. TM season and hill season?

Erin: I think your thread is a great idea. If I were just a year or two :lmao: younger....

Cheryl: Welcome! :welcome: I look forward to hearing more from you, and I'm envious that you're doing the Minnie! It's going to be so much fun!

Lisa and Vic: I'm glad you're both recovering!

Krista: No worries about the name. Debra, Deborah, Deb, trash-talk nicknames, I'll answer to anything. (Except D-Bra, the latter being a scarring moment from my flat-chested adolescence). Heck, my screenname is simply the phonetic spelling of my initials, so I'm not picky. Btw, I think your nest few months' motivation for being healthy is better than all of mine put together! I hope you're doing well, aside from those (in my vegetarian opinion, unnatural) beef cravings.

Michelle: I love MfM--I swear by it! As for what I think of...um, nothing mostly, especially on a TM. I ended up doing most of my LR for the Goofy on the TM, where I watched epis of Battlestar Galactica on my iPod. I should say watched them repeatedly, because it turns out running makes me too stupid to process narrative clues. Normally I can see even subtle plot points early on, but when I was running.... After I stopped running, though, the normal brain cell functions (for whatever they're worth) returned. So I wouldn't worry too much about thinking....(I obviously don't). Seriously, I kind of enjoy the blank state of mind I can get into on LRs.

Tricia: FWIW, I think you had a great pace! And don't worry about anyone feeling left out. I think we all recognize how quickly this thread moves. We all just want to hear from each other.

Jeanne: Just keep posting! I always feel like I get to know everyone from their posts, even if they aren't talking to me directly!

Heather: Ooooh, another newly-converted core groupie! I'm actually trying to work on my abs with crunches and Swiss Ball exercises. I've also started to go to a yoga class, picking up on a practice I foolishly set aside. I hope that they will help with my back, too.

Angie:  I hope you get the answers you need, that work becomes rewarding, and that you continue to challenge yourself. Your motivation inspires ME!

Amy: How is your arm doing? I hope you're feeling better and taking it somewhat easy!

Jen: Speaking of feeling better, are you recovering from your

To all new teammates! :cool1: We're so glad you're here!

As for me: Not much to report today. It's chilly again, so with a couple of days we went from record high temps (60s) to below 0 with the windchill. DH and I went to the gym for a quick (for me) 5K on the TM and some XT. I also picked up Chi Running, finally!, from the library. It's fascinating but perhaps a bit over my head that this point; forget about the author's intelligence, the book is smarter than I! But I'm going to keep plugging through it, as I believe that this focus on running & my core will help keep me (more) injury-free.

Well I have a serious dilemma. :confused3

I've been offered a bib for this year's Boston Marathon. The problem is Boston is run on Monday, April 21, precisely 13 days before the Minnie 15K.

I really love the 15K distance, and I'd really like to pound out those last 9+ miles of the marathon course. Plus I already have paid for my Minnie registration and bought air fare.

If I run Boston I'll likely not have much fun, since my long run last week was 10K, so I imagine miles 13 and beyond would be nothing but pain. But still, it's Boston. But we live 1 mile from the mile 15 marker on the course, and I've run a great deal of the course, so it isn't that new to me.

And if I run Boston I can forget any kind of good time for Minnie. With 13 days of recovery I'd be lucky to start and finish.

So effectively I'm saying I'd rather have a good result and fun at the Minnie 15K than run the Boston Marathon. Is this a sign of insanity? Or at my age is in senility?

Michelle

When I run hard I concentrate on my pace and technique. When I'm running easy my mind wanders all over. Often in training runs I visualize the course for my next race, and if I'm at mile 8 in my training run I think about what I'll face in mile 8 of the race.

When I'm running with others I reprise the role of Donkey in Shrek, the annoying talking animal sidekick. Songs, jokes, dumb puns, you name it.

And don't laugh about painting a scene on the garage door. When I'm doing long stuff on a treadmill before the Disney full or half marathon, I tape a color map of the course in front of me at eye level, and I literally run the course while I'm training. The most fun is if I'm running 13 miles and have the full course in front of me. Every 1/2 mile I click off 1 full mile on the marathon course map. It is terribly exciting to finish 13 miles in 2:15 and call that my time for the full marathon  .

Take care all, and enjoy the treadmill during this cold snap. I know I do.

Hello, Michelle and Heather!

Okay, I just finished reading this thread (wow--it makes a good argument for not working just so I can keep up!).

I hope I don't miss anyone:

Heather, I worked out my core to help my lower back. Pilates mat exercises did wonders for me (and the yoga child's pose always helped, too). Have you tried pilates?

Jeanne and Tricia, I know how you feel! I had to wait until after dinner to reply!

Bill, :rotfl2: I saw that and had to read the post twice because I got confused.

On the treadmill thoughts question, I spend the time subtracting how much time I've been on the TM from my total so I know how much longer I have to do it!

Debra, I'll have to spend time this summer putting the scavenger game together! But I think it *could* be fun, and a great way to help us meet a lot of people! j ( <--sorry, the dog is helping me type) I, too, managed to get out of the gym last week because it was warmer out. Today, it's back to the gym! Oh, and I read MfM this weekend and switched!

Craig, a true dilemma is a choice between two bad things--you have a choice between two good things! I think it sounds like you've made your choice. I choose Disney over any other option. I'm hoping to make it to the Minnie, myself!

Now sit back and relax, this one is hilarious at the end (don't worry it's not X rated, maybe PG-13).

GOOD EVENING TEAM!!

I agree I can NOT keep up with you guys:lmao:

Just a couple of quick things:

CRAIG HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND!!!! IT'S THE BOSTON MARATHON FOR PETE'S SAKE. On the other hand I won't do Goofy because I am the kind of person who wants to do one thing and do it REALLY good to the best of my ability so I really do understand your dilemma. BUT - THE BOSTON MARATHON :confused3: Also I find the annoying donkey sidekick amusing because that is ME :rotfl: Bobby doesn't find it very funny but when I haven't seen him all day I just want to talk while we are running and HIM... not so much :rolleyes1

OK so I did 3.8 miles tonight w/DH !!!! Guess what ?? Did last 3 in 28 min:woohoo: AND I FEEL GREAT!!!! Also if the City of Clearwater comes up with the money to build that marina that I did the proposal for I will be finally donning my hard hat and building a marina :dance3:

Gotta go take care of kids.

So sorry to hear this. It's always kind of 'shocking" when someone dies like that.

As for me, I 'cross trained' today. The boyfriend (and why does a 47 year old woman have a boyfriend... let's just call him "Waldo") convinced me to try his strech and strengthen class. WOW! I think my legs were more tired after this then after my run Saturday, but I know it was good for me! I was running late and didn't get my Treadmill time in....so will have to run back by the gym tomorrow.

Keep up the good work everyone! (And Criag I do have to admit, my first thought was "wow Boston" My second thought was "26.2 miles" NAH! LOL!)

Do you know how many years I have been trying to get Chad a voucher for Boston??? I harass anyone I can think of at the station and I still can't get him one. Heck, I can't even ever get my hands on one of those nice Boston Marathon windbreakers that somehow random, non-athletic techs end up with. You must do this for the good of the WISH team! Someone has to run Boston from here one of these years! You are absolutely insane to give up this opportunity. I will even get the day off from work and get out there with my cowbells. Wait. That may deter you... :rotfl:

Well, I had my first post-illness workout today and it was, shall we say, bearable. I opted for xtraining just b/c this nagging cough is still around. And, I'm really sure the lady next to me on the elliptical loved the hacking I was doing every 15 minutes of so. I did manage 3.85 miles on the beast and then a little arm work afterward. Could really tell that my nutrition has been way off the past week. Other than that, doing fairly well

Craig--Um, it's the Boston Marathon for Pete's Sake.....but that's just my opinion.;) Believe me I know this has got to be a momentous decision for you. B/c do you take the voucher, run a not so great race, but enjoy the fact that it's Boston. Or not take the voucher, which might not ever pass this way again, in order to run a great race in May. Tough decision man, but know that your WISH team will be behind you the whole way!

Christa--Happy Birthday! Hope you have a marvelous day!

Craig ~ What a tough call. Boston is THE race, the grand daddy of them all. I would leap at the opportunity to run it.

I have a good friend that ran it and finished (something like) 40th in his age group a few years back. He is my inspiration at times. His name is Mike English. He was part of my support group for my first marathon (Delaware Marathon - 4:41:03 May 2006).

However, with Boston, comes weather... I remember cringing at the cold and rain (?) of last years run. It must have been murder. We have a close friend who's DS ran in it last year. He ran it in a blistering 2:48:27 for an overall pace of 6:26. (I'll never do that!)

Knowing what could potentially be a cold, wet run of this length vs. a better distance for you, in Florida, surrounded by the Minnie Girls... I'd go for the Minnie.

I think you want to be the best you can be, the Minnie gives you that opportunity. I think that is the right choice. Be comfortable in your decision and do your best when you run it.

Best,

Howard

Craig, I know you'll make the right decision for you and know that we'll support you in whatever decision you make.

If you want my perspective, and it's not even worth $.02 on this one since Boston is so far from do-able for me....

I could be blasphemous & remind you that it's the final Minnie, while Boston might come your way again. But I won't. Instead, I'll say: It doesn't sound to me like your heart & mind are focused on Boston, even though it's, well, Boston. But when you've been talking about Minnie your excitement has been palpable. Heck, every time you talk about Minnie you make me want to go....I want you to have a good race, one that will be memorable for you for many reasons & most/all of them positive. I say choose the one that will give you the best chance of achieving that.

Hello Folks!

Christa - Happy Birthday!!

Michelle - Welcome! Good question about what we all think about when running. Oddly enough, sometimes I actually think about what I'm going to post about my run if something interesting happened. I'm not much about the numbers but if something entertaining happened...

I'm quite sure I'll be thinking about Mel shaving on my next run!:lmao:

Vic, Lisa, Stephanie and others on the road to recovery - Continue to feel better.

Craig - I'm with SteveOH, Jeff, etc. on this one. Maybe it doesn't have the same mystique for you since you're local, but how many chances will you get to run Boston? You still have time to get trained up. Disney races really should be more about fun than time anyway. Do Minnie for the fun/team aspect of it. You can always pick another 10-15K to put a whippin' on.

Take care everyone!

Craig-- considering how badly I want to be at the Minnie but can't (too far away now:guilty: ), I can totally understand your choice for the Minnie.

Here's my funny Boston marathon story: April 15, 2002. I gave birth to a wonderful baby boy. On this same day, my oldest DS's kindergarten teacher (at the time), ran the Boston Marathon. While I was in labor, she was running. I think I had it easier. :lmao:

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been walking here in the mornings. Great hills. I'll be trying out the TM at the gym next week. :thumbsup2

Wow, lay on your death bed for a while (getting no sympathy from the family because they are sick as well :rolleyes1 ) and everyone gets chatty and I miss everything...:lmao:

After surviving the latest round of family illness, I think I have finally recovered. Hopefully everything else will stay away since I have a half coming up in 2 weeks where I really need to start training. :rolleyes1

Just a little note to the northern wishers again, I had to go out and mow our yard over the weekend (while sick). I think it should be illegal to have to do that in the winter but the dog was giving me dirty looks when he went out in grass that was getting as tall as he was in parts (he is a golden retriever so he isn't that short  ).

Family update: Timmy is drinking liquids now (while seeming to want them and not have us force them in him) and not expelling them soon after (Mom is very grateful). Hopefully this will continue and another doctor visit or hospital visit won't be necessary. Billy is better with the stomach part but has moved to a cold. His energy needs to have an outlet soon or his parents may go crazy. :lmao: Lynnda is doing good but is worn out keeping up with the sick kids. If she doesn't strangle me when I get in from work, I figure it is a good day. :rotfl2:

Vic - Putting hamburgers in front of someone whose stomach is trying to jump out is not very nice. ;) Glad you are feeling better.

Craig - First a MIT professor then becoming Boston runner and you impart your advise to the WISH team. Getting quite famous I think. I would say do Boston. After a marathon and recovery time, you should be able to do Minnie without any problems. Seeing as how you blazed through the course at Mickey this year. I would do Boston since I have no hope right now of ever meeting the time requirements.

TiggerJeff - Ummmmm, my brain must still be in a fog from the illness otherwise things don't quite look right. :rolleyes1

Kristi - If Craig doesn't do Boston, you should go up and greet him with cowbells on his way to work someday. That would teach him. :lmao: Good luck in getting a jacket this year.

Stepahnie - Glad you were able to get some time in. Scaring off other people to keep your area clear is just an added benefit. :rotfl2:

Jen - Congrats on the spinning class.

Martha - I guess we should give you sympathy for Craig being insane at times, but I think most of the wives are in that boat. ;)

Christa - Happy Birthday. Hope you are able to relax on your day.

CarolA - Great job on the cross training. Hope you recover quickly.

monte - Sorry to hear about your coworker.

Angie - Great job on the run. Hope you are able to don the hard hat soon.

Debra - Good luck with the book. I hope the ideas are able to help you.

Krista - Glad you are feeling good. Hope the snow doesn't hinder you too much.

Michelle - I tend to think of random things while running but will occasionally come up with some solutions for work. Although doing the math in my head tends not to work that well at times.

Heather - From what I remember, I don't think you had too many chocolate chip cookies. Hope your back starts feeling better.

Welcome to all the new members.

I am sorry about your co-worker losing his or her life on the slopes. It happens from time to time, but it's always shocking when you live up there and hear of it, especially when you lose a friend.

Late, but Happy Birthday Christa.

Bill, hope all gets healthier at home. And although I'd sure like it to warm up (right now = 14 degrees), I don't envy you mowing the lawn.

And Kristi, you could never upset me, you're too good of a friend, and you've done too many nice things for me. Plus, as the bard Buffett says, "if we couldn't laugh we would all go insane."

You guys are truly lovely, but I think you all seriously overestimate my running abilities. Last night I looked at the 2007 results, and at my current age and fitness level, I would be in way over my head. To qualify at my age requires a 3:35 time, and it appeared that a likely time I could run would be very touch and go with having the course closed on me.

Plus, although I would be running with 25,000 others, and thousands of spectators, I'd really be running alone. No friends on the course for me to run with, by, or cross, and no friends on the course for me to look for. Honestly, knowing there would be groups of my buddies at certain spots last month made all the difference to me.

It may be a local thing, but Boston doesn't hold any magic for me at all. I'd rather run London or Disney.

And I know I'll enjoy seeing my buddies in May, and producing a nice result. So this dumb self-reflection is over, I'll pass on Boston and see many of you on May 4 before the 6:15 a.m. start. I'll recognize you since you'll all be in neon lime green.

Plus, I don't mind being thought of as a bit unusual, heck, I actively pursue it. I ask you, who else would have stepped out of the marathon course on January 13 and ridden Expedition Everest? Need you ask? I mean with the weather and my leg injury I wasn't going to hit my goal anyway, so why not?

Thanks everyone
Craig

Good morning, Wish team!!!!! Well, the white death has come, we got 4 inches of snow (which is nothing to you NE'ers) and then sleet/freezing rain on top of that. The drive in to work was lovely. But I made it here safe and sound, so all is good. :) I got 3.1 miles in on the TM last night, I ran about 3 minutes of it and then walked the rest. I think I'm going to give up running for now, I just don't feel comfortable running, I am having visions of the baby being bounced around, thinking, "what the heck, Mom??!!". :yo-yo: :yo-yo: I just hope I am able to get back into running after the baby is born and before January, I really want to PR the half next year! (My half PR right now is 2:27.)

Craig--Good luck with your decision, I know it must be tough for you. But just let me say: THE BOSTON MARATHON!!!!! :worship: :worship:

Monica--So sorry to hear about your friend.

HI Jeff--That youtube video was hilarious!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: And so true! When the man was screaming at the end, our dog came running at full speed into the living room, I guess he wanted to know what he was missing. :)

Christa-- HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY!!! ;)

Michelle--I have been running for almost 3 years and I still am not one of those deep thinking runners. I always listen to my iPod when I run, so I usually just think about the songs, maybe think about what I'm going to post on the thread, meaningless stuff like that.

Bill--Glad to hear that the family is on the mend!! I couldn't imagine how scary it would be to have a baby or small child who can't keep any food or liquids down. to you and Lynnda!

Stephanie--I am so glad that you are feeling better too! That's too funny about the elliptical! You better be careful or you'll get a reputation at the gym!

Cam--I hope all is going well with your health and the big case at work and the planning for your VR. And you still have time to be an awesome wife, mother, AND workout? You are amazing!! :goodvibes

Kristi--No matter what Craig decides, I think you should still pay him a little visit at the campus in full Wish regalia complete with cowbells. I would pay to see that! ;)

Well, it's getting close to 8:00, so better get off here and start working, not that there is hardly anyone here. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

When I'm doing long stuff on a treadmill before the Disney full or half marathon, I tape a color map of the course in front of me at eye level, and I literally run the course while I'm training. Craig

Craig-- I was just doing this the other day for the Minnie! Now that I am working my way up to a whopping 4 miles, I see that I have made it up to WWoS, doubled back and am heading on to the Studios.

Ah, Boston. Gotta love it. As a displaced native Massachusetts-ian? (ite? whatever), I still watch on-line every year. DH did it for the 100th anniversary (got in by lottery). It is a lotta work to get ready. Do what you'll enjoy, though.

And are you really an MIT prof? DH and I are both alum and my DD is a fresman there--survived the first term and is in the groove.

He was a great supporter of mine while training for the WDW marathon and was thrilled when I showed him the Mickey medal. He was just a neat older guy.

Thanks again.

Just wanted to drop in and say Hi. I'm another newbie who has trouble keeping up with these boards. I do read them every day and gather lots of great advice and motivation to keep working out, building up to the Minnie 15K. I'm beginning to put personalities to names, etc., which has been fun.

Doing a lot of cross training at a local gym and also trying to build up my walking base.

Everyone....have a great week!

Craig

Oh Craig, did you really do that? Wait until my 22-year old son hears this. He also ran the marathon that day and when he saw there was no line at Everest he said he really wanted to jump on the ride. Since time was not an issue for him, he figured it would not have made any difference. My response was "OMG, you would have been DQ'd!" Now I find out you actually did it....kudos to you! But my son will not be a happy camper when he finds out.
He was a little sad that he went to WDW and had no time at the parks.

When I'm doing long stuff on a treadmill before the Disney full or half marathon, I tape a color map of the course in front of me at eye level, and I literally run the course while I'm training

This is a fantastic idea. Do you print this on a big piece of paper? My wall is about 12 feet away, so I'd have to make it big enough to see. I usually stare out the window at the neighbors swingset up on the hill and think....I'm running towards the swingset, I'm running towards the swingset. Unfortunately, of course, I never make it to the swingset. The map is a much better choice. Is the map on Disney Running?
I've really enjoyed reading what everyone thinks about while running. That was a great question.:)
I try to stop by everyday, but am trying to limit myself to early mornings before my kidlets and getting ready for school and the first 1/2 hour of naptime. Otherwise, I could be reading all day and I'd never get on the treadmill. I've said this a few times, but you are all so supportive and inspiring. Even if I don't post alot, I'm sooooo glad I found you.:yay:

What an adventure: The Panda Family do Nashville

To start we had an uneventfull drive down and meet our girl friend at her hotel. Then we went for a wonderful dinner at the Brentwood Grill, the girls got "lobster in a can", which is like 2 big stuffed shells with a lobster and mixed cheeses filling. I was good and got a shrimp with pasta with a marinara sause, great food.

Then we headed down town for some drink and rowdy country music fun. At the first parking lot we got ripped off of our $10 parking fee by a vagrent. You you supposed to put your money in the machine, (a big sign that we missed said so), but our friend handed the money to the guy and got a fake ticket. Oh this was after I got lost and ahd to drive on the sidewalk for a bit, but we ain't going there.

When we got to the bar, The Stage a Country bar with a live band. The were pretty good some of them play on road trips with "Big and Rich". Any way we asked the bartender about the parking thing and he said it was a scam and our car could get towed. We moved the car to a parking garage about 2 blocks away. The guy in the little house said it was open till the bars close at 2am.

We drank and had fun, I drank mostly water since I was driving. About 1am we decided to call it a night, so I gathered my drunk princesses and headed back to the car. When we got there the garage was locked. A big sign said it closed at 1130pm and any cars left after that would be $50 to have someone come out and open the garage so we could get it out. Well we committed a little breaking and entering and rescued the VW. I suppose it was just a tad illegal but the fellow lied to us to rip us off for $50. The mission impossible team would have been proud.

But after a good night's sleep of about 4 hours, I drove my princess home and put her back to bed and our friend headed off to her home in Cincinnati. All in all a super good time and a typical Panda adventure.

Now I'm resting and icing my achillies I whacked again stepping off a curb the wrong way.

Have a great day y'all

Greetings Race Team -

To all those struggling to occupy themselves on the TM, here is some advice from "Old Aunt Krusty". (This is what my 21yo nephew calls me. But of course, since he is now 21, he knows everything and no longer needs Aunt Krusty's advice. But I digress.) :rolleyes2

I do about 80% of my training on the TM. Right now, and since Nov 17, it's been 100%. We have our TM in the finished basement so we put a TV and DVD player right in front of it. I love old movies but never have time to sit and watch them so this works out perfect. Having said that, I do make it a habit to check my form/stride/posture every few minutes. I tend to get involved with Cary Grant and forget what I am doing, which is good in that it makes the time whiz by, but bad because I should be paying attention. So I make it a point to do both. :thumbsup2

Also, I have a picture of the finish line taped right next to the TM, lest I forget what the point of all this is. :woohoo:

Also, it really helps, especially during those long winter L/Rs on the TM, to shift your perspective just a bit. If you think of all the people who can't train now and would give anything to be able to hop on a TM, like our very own Sunny...or the people who can't walk at all, never mind train, suddenly being bored on the TM doesn't sound so bad. When I think I just can't do another minute on the TM I think of how it was right after my knee surgery when I could barely walk and had to wear a knee brace for a year. Not a happy time. So, man, am I lucky to be able to get on the TM and I will NOT complain! :goodvibes

I've been keeping up with my Minnie training, but lurking more than posting. :rolleyes1

Craig - Oh Craig....I'm not going to say anything, Don't let me influence you. :rolleyes1 I wouldn't want anyone in my family to do anything like that to you, or anyone else here on the Boards. :lmao: It's your decision and if you're going to pass, we will still love you. But you know, if you want, Kristi and I could be there sporting The Lime! We could round up others and hand out cowbells and make it feel like Disney! :cheer2:

Debra - Cool. :cool2: I am a vegetarian too.

Monte - Oh that is sad.... :sad1:

Angie - You're doing so well! :woohoo: I am proud of you! :thumbsup2

Christa - Happy birthday! :bday: Whoooo hooooo! :cake:

WfloydBill - Wow, you were on your death bed and STILL cut the grass! What a man! Glad everyone feels better.

Krista - You do whatever is best for you and your little WISHer. :goodvibes You can work on the PR afterwards. But in the meantime, please don't leave us!

Christa--:bday:

To everyone nursing an illness or injury--I hope you feel better soon.

Does anyone wear Brooks Ariels? I went to Phidippides (local running store) Saturday and got a new pair but they feel "off". I've just recently started wearing orthotics and w/the sock liner out they feel really loose...like my foot is moving way too much in them. I don't feel like I have any stability. It didn't feel like that in my "older" pair of Ariels. It kinda feels like they are too big but they're not. They changed the look of the shoe (to lime green, Yay WISH colors) so I'm wondering if they changed anything else about it. I got in 3.5 miles on the treadmill yesterday so that should've been a good enough distance to try the shoe out right? Could it be possible that I need the shoe in narrow? Would that cause my foot to move around alot? Thanks for your help guys. :)

I would take them back to Phidippides and show those guys. Every time I have dealt with them they have been great. You may need a different shoe.

I wear the Brooks Radius and haven't noticed a changed in the sizing on those.

I do have to tell you that when we were in the Big Peach running store Saturday registering for the Charles Harris "Waldo" said... "I know why you like this, it's a whole new wardrobe" Hmm....:thumbsup2 (He doesn't EVEN know about the three lime green shirts I ordered on here! Or the Minnie for that matter. He is NOT a Disney fan so I try to break things to him slowly on Disney! Wait until he sees all those shirts next January. I told him about WISH I just don't think he gets it!)

Wow here it is another day and another hundred pages later (well not really but that is what it feels like!! :goodvibes )

Happy Birthday Christa

Craig - Sounds like you made up your mind about Boston or Minnie. I seriously want to know if you REALLY did EE during the marathon - now that would be something to talk about. Might be good practice for the EE 5k in Sept. :rotfl:

Monte - Sorry to hear about your co-worker. You are fortunate to have known him I am sure.

WFloyd - Glad to hear the family is on the mend - and its amazing you were able to mow the grass when you were not feeling up to par!!

WWDave - Sounds like one heck of time!!! Glad you were able to get your car out safe!! As someone else mentioned maybe these are needed :3dglasses next time to see those big 'ol signs telling you what to do!! :lmao:

CarolA - Too funny calling the bfriend "Waldo" I hope he doesn't mind that!! :scared1:

Great question asking what is thought of when on runs or on the TM and great answers too. I too think of the Wish team when I am out there running/walking. I think putting up the marathon route is a great idea and I may have to do that when I getting into the core of my marathon training. Shoot might as well do that now for the 15k.

Yesterday I managed to get some training in. I am calling it XT since I really didn't run. I did an aerobics fittness training program on my TM. It was for 30 mins, max speed of 4 and a max incline of 6. :scared1: when it went on 4MPH because I am not use to that kind of incline and it felt like I was doing all I could to stay on the dang thing!!!

Hope everyone has a great rest of the day!! :yay:

Carrie: Good to know that someone else is working through Chi Running. I don't think there's a workshop in my area, but I can check out a DVD. I may give that a try.

Ms. Duckie: You just rock! New to wish, a captain of a challenge team, and now the scavenger hunt. :cool1:

Aloha Jeff: You keep finding the coolest things. Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2

Angie: That's a fabulous time for your 3 miles. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the marina!

CarolA: Love your motivation. You're a little tired, so you'll just "have to run back by the gym tomorrow." Intense!

Martha: I know you can kick your mid-week workouts into gear!

Jen: Again, congrats on the spinning class. Sounds like it "hurts so good.!" :rotfl:

Stephanie: It sounds like you have what I had. I hope the worst of it is over and that the coughing fits subside quickly.

Vicki: How are things going? Everyone settling in? It sounds like there will be great scenery and new places to explore.

Bill: I'm glad everyone seems to be on the mend. I'll try to have some sympathy for you and the lawn moving, but right now we're in the middle of the worst storm of the winter. And what do I have to "shovel" snow? A broom. Yep, a broom. Apparently Pghers don't need no stinking shovels.

Craig: I'm glad you came to a decision. It sounds like it's the right one for you! And you give me ideas for next year's marathon! I definitely want to hang out with you--you know how to live it up DURING a race as well as before/after.

Krista: I'm glad you made it to work safely, and that you've made the decision to walk if that's what you're comfortable with. And I'm really impressed that you have your post-baby goal already in place. And I just know you're going to enjoy challenging yourself with all your other activities.

Stacey: WTG with challenging yourself to new things! I really enjoy my time on the bike.

Heather: Good job on the elliptical. What training program are you using for the Minnie?

SamSam: I think you'll really appreciate the XT for the Minnie. I haven't done enough of it in the past, and I certainly regretted it.

Tracey: I think I'm going to adopt the map idea, too! Just keep stopping by and posting when you can. We love to hear from everyone!

WWDave: "...we committed a little breaking and entering and rescued the VW." OMG! :lmao:

Judy: Veggies unite! And I've outed myself as someone who doesn't hate and even likes the TM, especially since I tend to watch TV or my video iPod on my winter LRs. Whatever gets us through the TM season, right?

Cheryl: I agree with CarolA and that you should take them back. It can't hurt to ask questions & try something else.

Tricia: It sounds like your aerobic program on the TM was challenging. Where did you learn about it?

As for me: Another day of strength/flexibility training, which turns out is far easier and much shorter than the attempt to dig my way out of our local snowstorm! THIS is the white winter I expected...thank you. Now it can go away.

Happy birthday Christa! :goodvibes

DH took me on a trail run this morning. (Kennesaw Mountain for you Atlanta neighbors...) and I'll just say I cursed more on that 4 miles than I have for the past ten years. I don't know how he does it. My pace was the slowest it has been in quite awhile and I got so discouraged and mad. I had to stop running and walk up several hills. I had a total temper tantrum when we finished. How do any of you run out there? I thought I had come so far and now I feel so far back... It will be awhile before I try a trail run again. :headache:

CHrista - Happy Birthday!!!!

Stephaine - Way to go on getting out there! Just completing a work out is great after being sick!

Monica - :grouphug: I'm so sorrry about your co-worker.

DKP - DH did not enjoy reading ChiRUnning either. Just not easy reading. However, I do think we can get a lot out of it. DVD sounds good, but I know me. If I have time to watch a DVD, it'll be a chik flick. :rotfl:

Bill - Glad everyone is much better. Sorry you have to mow, but at least you don't have to shovel or snow blow. Don't have to mow when your lawn is buried under 2' of snow.

Craig, being so close, couldn't you duck into the boston any time. I'm thinking you shoudl save yourself for the Minnie. We plan on putting our cabana boy to work. ;) ;) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Seriously, I don't knwo what I;d do in your boat. SOunds like you'd be just fine doing only teh Minnie. Go with your gut!

Christa -- Happy birthday!!! :cake:

Krista -- you spoil me, sweetie!

Vic -- So glad you are feeling better!

Stephanie -- don't overdo it!! :goodvibes

Angie -- keeping my fingers crossed for the marina. What an awesome project that would be to see developed!! :thumbsup2

Monica -- I am so sorry for the loss of someone who sounds like a remarkable person.

Bill -- I just cannot even imagine what you have all been going through with two sick children, much less not feeling well yourselves. Sending you huge hugs and pixiedust! pixiedust: Please be sure to give Lynnda a hug for me.

Craig -- So glad to hear you'll be with us for Minnie weekend!!

Tricia -- that workout sounds intense!!! Be careful with the inclines. I think that is how I hurt my achilles tendon last year.

Debra -- I'm all for you NOT having to put up with any more of the white stuff. Just don't send it this way, okay? ;)

Nothing new here. Just crazy busy at work, but interesting!

Debra - As for the aerobic thing on the TM actually it is a pre-set function on my TM. I figured I should use some of those features it comes with instead of just running and walking on the thing. Lately I have been using it on incline of 1 so it was nice to have a challenge. It changed incline on its own at certain intervals.

Cam - thanks for the warning - it did get a little intense when it went up to 4MPH (even though that normally is my walking speed) so I just kept it at 3.5 or 3 MPH when it felt too intense.

I really wish some of you northerners would send your cold weather down this way. I will take all your white stuff!!! This morning the weather guy told us we woke up 20 degrees warmer than it was yesterday and that was only because yesterday AM it was down in the 50's. This AM it was already 76F. We are getting major rain storms right now and through tomorrow night (there goes my run with my new running group!!) and then we are going to be getting another cool down (which will only put us to normal temps - but it will be cooler than we have been) - UGH I am ready for winter!!!

I'm so glad that other people are finding the book challenging. I was beginning to feel a bit weird; I mean, I've been known to read Judith Butler and Michel Foucault (academic theorists) for fun! But this book...I think it's because I'm trying to approach it the way I approached Bingham, as a right-before-bed motivational book. No dice. I'm going to start it over again this weekend, when I'm awake!

And I'm even more hopeful for the Chi Running DVD. There's a copy available through my library's Interlibrary Loan option; I just have to wait for it to become available. I'm not paying Amazon's price for it!

This thread moves lightning fast!

First, I made a point of paying attention to what I think about while I was on the TM last night. These are some of the thoughts I had, not including the usual "how much longer?" thoughts:

[I had the tv on with no sound]:

Wow... what's that poster over there say? You can't even read it from here. You can't read it from any of the treadmills. Well, that's dumb. I'm more likely to read it while I am stuck here.

Hey, that guy on the stairmaster.... I think I went to school with him. *mentally penciling in more hair and erasing some stubble* Hmm. Who is he?

Holy cow! That running guy next to me is shaking my treadmill. Is it safe for him to be hanging onto the front of the treadmill like that?

What is the difference between the Insider and Entertainment Tonight?

I know I went to school with that guy....

There must be a difference. Marketing-wise, there has to be a difference. Someone knows the difference between Insider and ET...

Why do the Insider and ET have the same footage of Dannielynn and Heath Ledger's funeral in the promos? How am I supposed to tell the difference between their shows?

Is all that condensation on the windows just sweat? Gross.

Do they steam-clean these carpets?

Wow. From here, i can't see what the stairmaster guy looks like from the chest down. He looks kind of funny bouncing around like that. *imagines him doing the Lord of Dance stepdancing* *imagines him doing a children's show dance like a puppet*

What the heck did Cher wear to the Grammys? Cojo said that's one of the best dresses? She looks like she was dragged under a car....

I so don't get "Fashion"...

Wow. Has Tina Turner had work done?

Wait. That stairmaster guy is talking to the other guy. Maybe I know him. Nope, never seen him before in my life.

That is a short dress on Beyonce. Does that count as a dress? Maybe is a shirt without pants.... Can she feel a draft?

**********

So, really.... not thinking about much!

Monica, sorry to hear about your friend.

Christa, happy birthday!

I LOVE the map idea for the treadmill. I don't think the gym would let me do that, though....

Bill, :rotfl: at the thought of a line of cowbells cheering him on to work! And glad your family is feeling better!

Tracey, I can just picture myself telling myself I'm running to the swingset... Very Dory-like: Just keep swimming! (and I'd be discouraged when I never got there)

Panda, thanks for the laugh! I was imagining the "Mission: Impossible" theme music while picturing you rescuing the VW.... Sounds like you a had a great time!

CarolA, dh also busted me for the sudden influx of new clothes. He doesn't know about the WISH shirts or the four new pair of socks I ordered this week.... :rolleyes1

Debra, dh just came in and told me the roads are bad, so I'll be doing a video and doing strength/flexibility training at home today, too!

Shan, go you for trying it! I don't run at all, so you have my respect for giving it a go. I've been assured we'll be better with time. :)

Tricia, I wish we had some of that warmth here! Please enjoy it for me!

Jen, Carrie, and Debra, What's Chi Running? :confused3

Whew! Welcome, any new friends, and hi to anyone I missed!

Craig - I have to go on record and say that I think you're crazy to give up Boston! I totally believe you can make a good showing, and there would be green cowbells... Have fun at the Minnie!

Krista - If you're not comfortable running, it's probably time to stop. Good decision! :thumbsup2

Monica - Sorry to hear about Bob. It's always hard to lose a friend. :grouphug:

Jeff - Our local NPR station was giving away a trip to Hawaii this week and bragging about how sunny and warm it was there while it was cold here. I yelled at the radio "no it's not - it's raining there!" Your weather updates have apparently gotten to me!

My second reaction is.....if the signs were, as you say, "big", could it be that the optometrist may need a new pair of glasses? :lmao: (sorry, I couldn't resist) :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I kept two pictures on the TM all year. One was of the half marathon course, the other was of the Donald medal. And when I'm running outside, I'm like Mike - usually thinking about what I'll post about the run. I hear about people who think through huge problems while on their LR's, but I don't seem to be one of them. :confused3

Well Krista, see what happened is one of our friends from Runner's World was going to be down there and since we only live an hour away....

So you see it's not us, it's those runner's world gals are just a bad influence. I can't blame driving on the sidewalk on her though. Fortunately that was before I had any beer.

The car rescue was actually quite comical and fortunately we did have the bail money in case it went bad. "Think John Belusi, in animal house."

I did a race 1.5 years ago...I believe it was 5 miles...and it kicked my butt. People were walking off the course bleeding and dirty. Those hills were horrible...i remember grabbing on to little trees to help me get up the steeper single track trails. Anyway...I know how discouraging a tough run can be...but I always expect my pace to be way slower on trails. GOOD FOR YOU for getting out there girl! :thumbsup2
-------
Ohhhh...and my thoughts when on the treadmill...very basic...."HOW MUCH LONGER?". I strongly dislike the treadmill! :headache: I wish I could say other profound things entered my brain..but sadly i'm just waiting for it to be over !

Training has been ok this week...I'm backing off a bit...I managed to do an hour of pilates in my friends' class (wow it was TOUGH) and I ran 3 miles in the snow (wow it was COLD). Tomorrow is supposed to be spin and pilates class but I'm not sure the weather will cooperate...I have a strong suspicion the kids will be home from school. Love 'em..really...but I wish they were going to school!

So for the Minnie I've decided to alter the John Bingham "Run Half Marathon" training plan by adding a speed work day, hill repeats and lots of cycling cross training. I hope this gets me to my goal time!!! I'm excited to have a new "training plan". :goodvibes

Since I'm WAY behind on this thread and it's only Tuesday..... :sad2:

Cheryl & Michelle--WELCOME! So glad you've joined our team!

Christa--Happy Birthday!

Craig--kudos on making the tough choice. Or maybe it's just harder for me to hear your decision than it was for you to make the decision. :) But honestly, I think you're going to tear up the Minnie course this year. This decision is just more motivation, right?

Michelle--Your question about thinking while running really got me thinking (and I'm not even running! :) ). I've come to the conclusion that in order to have deep thoughts while running, I need to be outside. I can't remember a single training run on the treadmill where I haven't been concerned with pace, how much further I have to go, watching a movie, etc. Now LRs outside...that's where inspiration happens. I'm sure there's logical reasoning behind this, but for me, it just reconfirms my somewhat ludicrous willingness to get outside in subzero temps just to avoid the treadmill.

Training's been going well, but work has been crazy, so I've had to cut back on my WISH time, which makes me feel pretty disconnected. I'll try to be better about that this week.

Hope everyone is having a good week. Talk to you all later!

Steve

I know I am a newbie and I keep reading how this thread has "slowed down" but boy I would hate to try to keep up with fast LOL!

Shan. I have walked that trail. that was plenty Thank You! This would be one of those bonding moments where I wonder why I date "Waldo"

Debra. Thanks for the kind words. I nearly wimped out on the TM this afternoon, but then I remembered I told you guys I would go so I did.

Did 3 miles on the TM in 40 minutes. That's a new record for me both for distance and time. (Under 45 minutes for 3 miles is great for me... I am SLOW!!!)

However, that crosstraining Mon left me SORE so I think tomorrow's a rest day!

I have to admit that I am not a deep thinker on the Treadmill. The Y has a TV set up with individual TVs at each station. Today I watched the news and Food Network!

Hope Everyone has a good hump day tomorrow!

Thank you for your comments about my excitement for Minnie, you’re too kind. I've always broken down by the AK in the Disney Marathon, so the clear solution is to start there.

Vicki

I think you’re right. After finishing the Disney Marathon last month, Martha said that was the hardest thing she’s ever done physically, including childbirth.

Bill

Bless you and Lynnda for getting 2 sick kiddos on the mend. We’re many years from that, and oddly don’t miss it at all! And hey, we only had 1 small child.

Krista

Keep moving, and that baby will come out with running shoes on. I’m clearly an expert on childbirth, but keeping fit will make your next few months a lot easier.

Hello Maura

So you, spouse, and daughter are MIT engineers/beavers. My full time gig is as a professor at a boutique College in the Boston area, but last fall I visited at the Sloan School of Management. Yesterday I was asked to visit again this coming fall, so it looks like I’ll be a regular visitor at MIT. I’ve been at my current College for nearly 11 years, and driving down to Sloan twice a week was a real treat. New is always good. I’ve a displaced Coloradoan, so maybe we can get a 3 way trade to move us all back to our roots.

Heather

Sure, party hearty, dude. Especially when everyone needs to be in the AK parking lot about 5:45 a.m. Or we could just stay out all night and go to the start after emptying out the bars.

Jeanne

Yes indeed, I did ride EE on Marathon Sunday. I hoped to go sub-4:30 with Steve and Dana (Who both did it!), but I tore a hamstring 2 weeks earlier, and it popped again at the 15 mile market. Since my time goal was never going to happen, I figured 4-5 more minutes for a detour to see the Yeti wouldn’t hurt. So your son could have done it and no DQ. He can go for it in 2009.

Tracey

Our fitness center has the stands in front of the treadmills with TV’s mounted on them. I tape the map to the stand. You can get the color map on the Disney Endurance Sports website in the marathon link. 12 feet away is too far by far for me to see.

WWDave

Dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum –dum-doodeedoo . .

Judy and Kristi

If you show up in lime green with cowbells I will be sure to tell the campus police, “honest officer, I’ve never seen those women before in my life.”

Tricia

Does the EE 5K include a ride? Go for it. When I jumped into the ride there were only 3 other people in the train. I was in the front car by myself, and yes, when it stops at the top you can see to the Swan/Dolphin, EPCOT ball, and beyond.

Snowing like blazes out there right now, so we get to dig out tomorrow early. What fun.

Take care

WWDave - loved your escapades in Nashville! :rotfl2: It is funny now, right?

I have had two days from you-know-where. Monday I hit a small & hard something on the highway while going to work and had a flat upon leaving work. Yesterday, took it to Toyota and had the flat fixed. Went grocery shopping. Came out and same tire was flat again! Back to Toyota, yadda, yadda, yadda. They found the "really really small hole" that eluded them an hour before. Hmmm....somehow this teeny tiny hole (yeah, right) leaked a whole tire full of air in only one hour. Now that is freakin' amazing. And that was just the car-related drama!

And today will probably be a third day from you-know-where since it's craziness at work since it's snowing. Again.
You now what? It's New England. It snows. This is not the Blizzard of '78. Oy!

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well. I am really feeling blue these days. I am seriously needing some exercise induced endorphins. I’ve had a cold for 3 weeks that has just knocked me out. I have walked on the TM a couple times this week and that has helped a bit, but I really want to get outside for a run. I Tivo’d a stretching show yesterday thinking it would be good for me to do a little something, but when I realized I needed the pysio ball and mine was downstairs in the basement, I just couldn’t summons the energy to go get it. It’s really pathetic right now. I’m hoping to quit feeling sorry for myself at some point soon and get back at it.

Kristi: Sorry for your car troubles. I hope you survive the most recent “Storm of the Century” at work.

Craig: Congratulations on your invitation back to MIT. I would think it was very flattering that they wanted you back. It seems like you’ve already made your decision about the Boston Marathon, but I’ll just add that IMO what makes Boston special is that you have to qualify to get in (all the charity runners excluded). To run it without making that standard would still be cool, but maybe not as satisfying.

Amy: Good luck with your new training plan. Adding hills, speed and xt sounds like a good formula for increasing your pace.

Dave: Glad you survived your adventure into the big city.

Ms Mighty Duck: I loved your post. Thanks for the laugh.

Debra: Hope the Chi DVD helps. I had a feeling that book would be too brainy for me. Good luck with the shoveling. I really like shoveling, but I’ve had enough this year.

Cam: Hope work eases up a bit.

Shan: Sorry the trail running experience wasn’t so good. I hope you’ll go back again when you can take it at an easy pace and enjoy the scenery. Just not before your ½ marathon. You don’t need to be twisting an ankle.

Tricia: Good job on the TM training program. I guess you don’t have time to think of too much when you’re worried about falling off the back.

Krista: Good for you to keep active while you can. As long as you feel comfortable with what you are doing it can only help you in the long run.

Judy: Shame on your nephew for the Old Aunt Krusty comments. Kids!!! I really like your philosophy about the TM running. I do need to adjust my attitude about being “stuck” on the TM. Maybe it’s time for me to watch a little Cary Grant.

Welcome to all the new WISHers.

Have a great day.

Did you remind them you were a princess?

We are being snowed on today, the bad part is there is a layer of frozen rain under it. Our daughter, who is now driving my Grand Cherokee called us last night saying that she was afraid to drive home from work because the roads were ice covered. So Erica and I went out and rescued her and the Jeep.

A moment of reflection this morning, thinking about our dear friend Lily who is having surgery. Lily is one of the reasons this board is so wonderfull. When you meet Lily or Anne and some of the other WISH royalty, you feel like you have just reunited with a long lost sister. Please think thoughts of strength and love for her.

Good Morning Everyone!

I have nothing exciting to report. I did speed work yesterday and all it did was remind me that I don't particularly like to run fast. I need to go back and do more cross training but this week there is Valentines Day to navigate and I am sure I can find some excuse next week as well....

My main distraction is computer shopping. Yipee, its time for a new computer. Except that now I have to reeducate myself because everything has completely changed since I bought this computer. I am trying to get educated on the whole VISTA thing but it isn't easy.

Panda - Your Nasville adventures made me smile! I can not wait to go to the CMM in April! Dh and I had a blast last year. We stayed downtown so we could walk everywhere but still took a taxi to the hotel saturday night :rolleyes1 (thats all I am gonna say about that)

Shan - Trail running is very different. Its great for gaining ankle strength and/or breaking an ankle.

Craig - I am SO jealous that you got to ride expedition everest! I would have ridden that in a heartbeat! To be honest, I didn't even think about it when I was in AK. But I will next year.....

As for treadmill running - I play games to entertain myself. I turn the speed up to my fastest pace for one "lap" and see what that does to my heart rate. Or I go slow the first mile then try to catch my pace back up by going faster each mile after. Another game is to see if I can outlast everysingle person in the gym. Since there are about 50 treadmills in my gym, this can get me quite a few miles.

Good morning to all.

Ms. Mightyduck....Thanks for the laugh. What a great post. Did you ever figure out who the guy was?

Angie...Congrats on the marina project. That sounds amazing!

CraigThanks for the info about the map. I think I'll have to blow it up....really big:) And congrats on the invite back to MIT.

Cindy....Take care of yourself. You know what's best, we've just had lots of folks around here pushing themselves into pneumonia....it almost seems epidemic.

I did my 3.5 miles on the treadmill yesterday with a run/walk pattern and finished in a little under 37 min. Not too much slower than my straight run pace. I was pretty excited. Today, it's strength training. I just wish all the ice would go away outside, but it looks like we're getting some snow on top of it. Have a great day all.

Amy...Glad to hear you have backed off a bit this week. Yay! for the new "plan!"

So far this week I did 8.5 miles on the bike on Monday--a first for me and yesterday I aquacised. Today is a run/walk day for me and tomorrow I hope to get in a Step Class. I feel a little achey in the hips, but nothing like it was just before Disney! I'm not driving so much anymore. Matt (DH) is still on a no driving restriction, but I just couldn't keep driving us 45 min to and from work plus everywhere else. I think that was impacting my hip flexor too. It seems to hurt more when I drive... He's had no more seizures since November so hopefully all is getting better now. We go back to the neurologist next week.

Happy training!

Morning everyone! Ok, I'm admitting I haven't caught up on this thread yet, but wanted to post, and will go back and catch up.

I know we've been lucky too with the recent winters here in NY, however, this year stinks! It's never just snow - always has to be followed by ice YUCK!!! So this morning, my exercise was shoveling off the cars, and I'll go out in a bit and finish shoveling the rest. My entire house is sick AGAIN. I just "love" the winter :scared1: Jeff had the flu this weekend - he's better but it's all in his chest, and he's at the drs as I type. My lingering cold hit me bad yesterday where I was in a fog for most of the day. DD is sick - again. Fever, tired, and a cough - oh and completely whiny and clingly - which I understand, just gets a bit tiring after a while. So if she still has a fever in a bit (I gave her motrin very early this morning), we'll be off to the doctors as well.

thanks for letting me air that.

You guys are a T-rrific group of people, and I consider myself lucky to have found you and to have been accepted in. As much as we have competitions, its all done in a fun, loving, and most importantly supportive way, where no matter if you're pulling in 13 miles or 0.5 miles a day - you are cheered on, and that is why I truly enjoy visiting this group (at least) once a day! As with all families - ok, maybe it's just mine - there's going to be disagreeing - but no one here ever loses sight of what's important - each other!

Ok, going to check on DD and will be back soon (no school b/c of weather/sick = no work for mommy) and I'm hoping to get something accomplished today :confused3

Have a great day!

I just wanted to throw out a couple things while I've got a minute.

I agree, and will also go so far as saying its like being re-united with a long lost sister you actually like. Can't speak for Dave on this one.

Craig-From all the Boston Marathons I participated in, they didn't seem too tough to me. Granted I was in much better shape back in college (at BC) and the participating was cheering at heartbreak hill several years with kegs and grills so I suppose running it might be a little different.

I do think the cowbellers could help you though. If not too personal, where do you stand on tenure and/or department chair? You really don't think it would hurt to have a cheering section leading you into class do you. I think at least at MIT it would definately be a plus. (I'll check with FIL-he's my family's MIT alum and big into alumni stuff.) Just don't let Original Bill participate. He seems to attract too much campus police (and other law enforcement) attention.

Original Bill--Glad to hear the family is recovering.

Hope everyone down south gets through the latest weather--looks like lots of thunder coming through with a cold front. We've got the old "Wintry Mix" going here in New England today.

To Everyone-- Have a great and safe day.

Thinking about and praying for Lily today.

I have a question for you experienced WISHers out there. I've only been back to training for about two weeks now. I started back at square one of my C25K training plan. There is a local 10K on March 2nd. I have NEVER run a 10K. 5K is as far as I have gone, and I walked that one in Disney, ran two last Sept. and Oct. Is it possible for me to do this race, or is this pushing my limits?

The reason why I ask is because there is a big 10K here in May, and I would like to have a "trial run" with this race. The only thing is that I don't want to injure myself by pushing too much too soon. I just did a two mile race this weekend in 23:25, so that gives you an idea of my pace. Don't know that I could maintain that for four more miles though. :confused3 Please let me know what you think.

Got a strange question for you girls...

Last race I packed a small purse tissue pack and a couple hand sanitizer wipe packets for the portapotties.

A couple weeks ago DH and I went out to a trail and they had portapotties. I wasn't prepared and they totally grossed me out.

I was thinking about buying these to put in my waist pouch for races and such -
http://www.magellans.com/store/Health___Personal_Care___HygieneTW384?Args=

Anyone thought of doing this? I don't recall Disney having these in the portapotties for their races, correct?

I haven't seen these in any stores, I guess I'll have to buy them online. I'm wondering how small these packs are... :confused3

Alli you CAN do it!! Right now, its a mind game - so get your mind in the game - and run that race... (oh wait.. never mind - you're team doesnt need those race points :rolleyes1

Shan call me crazy - but I wouldnt bother with those seats - do some "wall sits" and strengthen those thigh muscles (do people really sit on portapotties?) and the Disney portapotties had the alcohol gel inside (or the one I used) I also took advantage of the flush toilets in Frontierland - but when ya gotta go, ya gotta go!!

Shan: Trail runs just scare me. I tried trail biking this summer and had a very similar reaction. Thought I was fit, got frustrated, swore I wouldn't do it again (& am now making plans for this summer...). I'm so impressed that you got out there. I've not used the toilet-seat covers, and I'll be very interested in what others think.

Cam: I'm glad the work is interesting, at least. Hopefully it's not interfering with all your plans, especially your VR.

Tricia: Thanks for the info on the TM intervals. Now that you mention it, I think the TMs at my gym have this. (I really should pay more attention to all the amenities my monthly fee gives me...). I'm sending winter wishes your way.

Carrie: Yeah, I love the stop-in-the-middle of the chapter & do-this-exercise suggestions in Chi Running. If I stop reading, it's to turn out the light & go to sleep. Obviously this book requires more mindfulness on my part.

Ms. Duckie: Your stream of consciousness was delightful. It's worthy of a Faulkner story!

Jackie: That's so cool that you're writing when you're running. I hope to get there sometime....

Amy: Oooh, I'm glad you're reading Chi Running. I think I'm going to get something from the book, if no more than a yen to take Tai Chi. I think I'm going to continue with yoga for now and try to work one aspect at a time. I guess I just have to trust that things will make sense over time. I'm glad to hear you're giving yourself some recovery time and taking it easy (for you, for me it would be a killer schedule). Your training plan for the Minnie seems exciting--if I remember Bingham's schedule tends be like this: moderate run-moderate run-moderate run-and so on. (Yeah, I knew there was a reason I liked his plans! :lmao:

Steve: I hope work settles down and that the temps allow you to run outdoors. I don't have nearly your fortitude for subzero temps, so I'll hope for a balmy 40 degrees for you!

CarolA: Great news on the PR. I wouldn't call you slow, which tells you something about my pace. ;)

Kristi: I think the Panda should count your tire changing as XT. Your HR must have been elevated--mine would have been.

Cindy: It sounds like you need a little inspiration and encouragement. I can't really help you there, as my form of motivation involves calling myself names & using profane language. Not very DIS friendly. Sadly enough, it works. Maybe WWDave could give you some encouragement--he's got quite a way with words.

WWDave: As usual, you express yourself beautifully. You're truly a (pretty) prince of a guy.

Cecilia: I love the idea of playing games with the TM and "competing" with others in the gym, even if they don't know it. A covert operation! As for the computer? I have a suggestion (whispering in your ear): Macbook Air, Macbook Air....

Tracey: Great time for your R/W!

Stacie: What a full and varied schedule. I hope/am fairly sure it will help with your hip flexor. I'll think good thoughts for the neurologist visit.

Stacey: (Thank goodness for different spellings) to your family. I hope you'll all have speedy recoveries and that any doctors' visits, if necessary, are quick and painless.

NEPats Bill: It's great to see you here. How's your training going?

Allie: I don't really have enough experience to answer your question, so I'm just speculating. Could you run 5K of the race and walk the rest? Or a R/W? You know, get back in the swing of racing but without pressuring yourself to run the entire race? (Or even having anything but completion as a goal.) Then you could gauge your abilities & make plans for the 10K in May.

As for me: Another C25K day, and I'm trying to work on relaxing my muscles (as Chi Running suggests). I find it hard to be loose on the TM, but running outside is a no-go right now. Too much ice on the sidewalks. And ice + hills = nervous Debra. I added some more XT to make going to the gym worthwhile. This evening I tried a quick walk to the neighborhood beer store--still too icy to be safe at anything more than a walk. That's what I get for wanting a white winter.

Well, I walked down to the garage office and asked if they could send someone to put my donut on. Does that count? ;) I figured for the $300 a month I pay for the priviledge of parking there, they should do it for me. Yesterday I exercised my fingers calling AAA to have them send someone to put that donut back on. Oh, and I jumped around like a fool trying to wave down the tow truck driver since he was going down every aisle in the parking lot besides the one I was in!

DEBRA: Thank you for always keeping up individually on the thread and thank you for all your kind words and encouragement. I don't know how you guys find the motivation to train in that cold, snow, ice :scared1: It's supposed to be maybe 45 tonight and I was thinking -- OH HEAVENS NOOOO WAY I'm doing morning run tommorrow!!! THAT"S FREEZING!!!
Shan That trail run does NOT sound like fun at ALL!!!!! I don't remember how often the port a potties are on the route for the 1/2 but you are constantly passing them and then there are always the bathrooms in the magic kingdom that are open and much CLEANER than those nasty things along the route. And MK will be right around mile 6 about half way, so if you can wait until then, YOU ARE GOOD!! :thumbsup2 I have two little boys who don't get grossed out by anything and my 8 year old wouldn't even use the ones at the finish line this year for marathon because they were so gross
Allie: I am the QUEEN of pushing myself too hard so I won't tell you what I would do :rolleyes1 but we did have a friend who did RFTT w/DH this year and she had never done more than 3 1/2 before the 10K. She did finish but she did say one of the reasons she finished was because she had DH pushing her. I think it CAN be done it's probably more of a question of what is right for you and your body and risking injury? Sorry probably not much help.

OK I'm sorry that is as far as I can get right now.

As for me nothing today, yesterday did Bodypump(weights) and Bodyflow(yoga, core) I am such a cardio junkie that even though I spent 2 hours at the gym i feel like I cheated and didn't do anything :confused3

How often do you pass the regular bathrooms on the half route? Do they have portapotties on the course, too? popcorn::

We went in the Magic Kingdom in Frontierland. Nice relaxing bathroom break complete with soap and paper towels!

Alli - I hate to be a naysayer, but I think going from 2 miles to 6 in just over 2 weeks is a bit much. I think you're very smart to question it, as it is a bit much. You have planty o ftime to train and kick some booty in May, though!!!

I was thinking the same thing. A 5K maybe, but I'd wait until May for the first 10K.

Kristi - Bummer about all the car trouble! Yuck!

Well, I've officially packed away all of my maternity clothes. I'm actually kind of sad about it.

But the good news is that I've only got a little under two weeks until I see the doctor and am hopefully cleared to get back out there and run again!

Oh, it would DEFINITELY be a run/walk combo. There is NO way I could run the whole thing. I know that I could walk the whole thing because I've been walking for forever. I just didn't know how it would make my legs feel, if I try to run more than walk. :confused3

Alli - I hate to be a naysayer, but I think going from 2 miles to 6 in just over 2 weeks is a bit much. I think you're very smart to question it, as it is a bit much. You have planty o ftime to train and kick some booty in May, though!!!

Thanks for your feedback. I'm still thinking about it. I may ask my friends that did the race with me Sunday what they think. The husband is going to give me a training program for the 10K in May. I just would like to have a feel for how far that is. I just wouldn't want to sideline myself for May.

Allie: I am the QUEEN of pushing myself too hard so I won't tell you what I would do :rolleyes1 but we did have a friend who did RFTT w/DH this year and she had never done more than 3 1/2 before the 10K. Thanks for your feedback too. I think I may go drive the course and see how bad the hills are. Luckily, you go to a certain point and then turn around and come back. So if there is an uphill going, it will be a downhill coming back. :)

I was thinking the same thing. A 5K maybe, but I'd wait until May for the first 10K.

Jackie

Ok, maybe I am trying to be too ambitious. I am just really getting "into" this running thing. There is something very exhilarating about completing a race.

Yeah, Sandy, don't think that you are gonna keep me down. :rolleyes1 You're just jealous of the miles + the bonus I would earn for my team. :teacher: You know you are my inspiration. Someday I may be able to do the Half with you. Wouldn't that be fun?

Thanks everybody for your feedback. Maybe this is too lofty of a goal for right now. :confused3 That is why I came and asked you experts. I knew you would tell me the truth.

Morning team! Happy Valentine's Day! Make sure to give the ones you love, lots of hugs and kisses today!

Did my first post-illness run yesterday and it was UGLY. Guess the lungs aren't completely healed, and it did not feel good. I did get a slow 3.1 miles in, so that's something. Back to the gym this morning for some xtraining.

Shan--I have to say that during the midst of a long distance event, like the marathon or half, I don't care what the facilities are like as long as I can find them when I need them. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go. I did use one in the UK in Epcot at the end of the marathon though, and boy did I get some strange looks from the park goers when I stumbled in there.

Lily--Hope the surgery went well. PD and prayers for a speedy recovery!:wizard:

Okay, gotta get DD ready for school. Have a great day all!

Shan - I think it wasd you who said your comp. shorts in your skirt ride up now. I do believe they are more apt to do that when your legs get skinnier, not larger!

Had a rest day yesterday, unless you count teh steps I put in when buying my new ASICs. ;) GOt teh 2130s, didn't feel much diff from teh 2120s. I WISH they were lime like the Kayanos, but nos uch luck. :guilty:

Lilly--

For me...

So, it was raining yesterday. It was my day to run (well, walk/run). I've never wanted to run in the rain before. Heck no, to the TM I go. Well, for some reason, yesterday was different. I just had this desire to get out there and get wet. Matt had a Dr appointment in Wilson yesterday. We got there and I went in and changed clothes. My parents live about 3-3.5 miles away. I told Matt I was going to run to their house. He looked at me like I was insane. Let's just say he was not too thrilled about me running on a 5 lane highway. I told him that if when he got done, and he saw me, to stop and I'd get in the car w/ him. So...to make a long story short, I ran 2 miles in 28 minutes before he picked me up. I acutally walked more than I ran, which is ok. It was actually a good place to run as I could be on flat ground just off the highway (althought I was in people's yards! No sidewalk) I wasn't too close to traffic and I could actually see a little path where it seems someone must run/walk in the same area. After he picked me up, we got to my mom and dad's neighborhood and he dropped me off at the front of the subdivision. I got in another mile for a total of 3 miles/45min.

I actually had a great time running the rain. There was this cleansing effect it had on me. I hate getting all hot and sweaty so in the rain, you just get wet. You don't feel sweaty at all! As the cars passed, I kinda giggled to myself wondering what those folks were thinking...(This girl is crazy!) :upsidedow

Hopefully my shoes will dry out and still fit ok. I've washed a pair of shoes before and they never fit the same after... :sad2: I hope since these just got soaked in the rain and I let them sit out and dry vs. sticking them in the washing machine, they will be ok. They are my newest and most expensive pair!

I will say, I need to keep better rack of my food. I know don't if I'm eating too much, not enough or just building muscle. With all the activity I've done since Sunday, I got on the scale this morning and I'm actually up in weight. ugh! :headache: Frustrating! I guess for some folks the the time spent in said activity above is not much, but for me...it's soooo much better than I was doing and about all I have time to fit in. Life is just to hectic!

Anyway...enough about me today...Hope everyone has great day!!!

Stacie: They sell a waterproofing spray for your sneaks (here at Olympia and Dick's) that you might want to look for. It works great for me outside in slush and rain as long as the puddles are not too deep!! I also invested in a pair of Adidas Gore Tex running sneaks that zip up and are ankle high. I don't like running in them too much so they have lasted me awhile.

I agree about running in the rain...it feels much better than when you sweat and your clothes stick to you.

Shan: The compression shorts ride does have something to do with your legs getting smaller not bigger. Mine ride but not bad and I have just gotten used to it. I have some compression shorts that REALLY ride and I refuse to wear them for anything except lifting now. Work with your shorts and embrace the fact that your body is changing shape!!!!

Those of you who have been around for a while know of my Valentine's day horror story. For the new WISHers here it is again:

We had 2 dogs, Erica is a big animal lover, I told her if she brought another animal home I would leave her.

I came home from work on Valentine's evening 5 years ago, sitting in my chair is a chocolate lab puppy! I said Erica, I said no more animals. She said "you like border collies". I said, "this is not a border collie, and besides what does that have to do with anything".

She said, "I was going to get you a border collie and there were none available, so I got you a chocolate lab". I said, "you were the one who wanted a chocolate lab, not me". She said, "well give her to me then".

That's how it went down, she called my bluff on leaving her on Valentines day and got the chocolate lab she had been wanting.

Now tell me was that fair?

Stacie - your run in the rain sounded fun and refreshing.

I ended up walking to the fitness center for a 30 minute tae-bo/aerbic class and then back home for a total of 3.5 miles outside. The sun was out so that part was great; the wind was howling so that part was not so great. Felt great when I got home.

Good Morning,

I'm not sure where to post, so I thought I would just jump in here. I've been lurking mostly and posting some on these boards since deciding last weekend to give the 1/2 marathon a shot. This is a big deal for me as I will be 52 at that time and have never done any running in my life. I have done some walking, but nothing more than a 5K, and it's been several years since I've done that.

I can't begin training at this time because I am recovering from runner's knee, doing PT & strengthening those quads. Don't want to make it worse by doing too much too soon. I would love to join in with one of the teams but all the talk of training that I can't do at this time (besides walking....and I feel I should limit that) makes me feel somewhat out of the loop.

I feel sure that I will not run the entire 1/2 marathon, but will do a walk/run. It will take me forever to read though all the teams threads. Is there one out there that has several first timers in it...especially those that are 40+? I am usually not this shy, but this whole running world (heck, the whole athletic world) is new to me, and I don't even have any idea where to begin to train. I have ordered the Marathon for Mortals book, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Sorry for rambling on like this. I would love to get to know some of you better. I met Lily (TigerLily) on a Disney Cruise 2 years ago, but the rest of you are all new to me.

Nothing much to report here. I was going to run yesterday afternoon- went to pick up baby Harry early so he could join me in the stroller, and then realized the cold front had rolled in. Major wind! We have tons of really tall pine trees in our neighborhood and I was afraid we'd be nailed by a pine cone/missile, so we stayed in. (DH had TWO windshields destroyed by pine cones last year, so it actually is a valid fear. And yes, it was irritating and expensive to replace two windshields, but I laughed like crazy because DH is sooo particular about his car. We've since cut down the offending trees and DH sold the car because it was jinxed. ;) )

Allie- I started running last January, and had worked my way up to 3-4 miles on a TM when I entered a 10k in March. Is there anyway to check last year's results for your race? I ran about an 11 minute pace and was pretty close to DLF. There were some people way behind me, but I spent the last 3 miles alone, unhappy, and afraid (it was a swamp run, and I saw two snakes!) Had I done a bigger 10k where I could have had some company, I think I would have had a much better time.

Shan- hello, your ring falls off and now your running skirt's shorts are riding up?! Girl, you have so lost inches and you don't even realize it. :cheer2: Have you tried shorts again? I gave up on the skirts (for now).

Lily- we're thinking of you!

Dave- too funny! So when you're out and about in your girly car, does the lab get to go too?

Hi Mary,

Like you, I am a non-runner (I guess I'll have to stop saying that soon), and until a few weeks ago had no clue this group existed. But now, I've signed up to run the Minnie 15k--yes, RUN. And I celebrate the big 5-0 this year (--now if only I can get into the FCI chocolate class that I have been eyeing!)

The team thing is a recent invention--done to keep people motivated as they train for various things throughout the year. Not everyone is part of team, but no matter, the overall board and the weekly threads have lots of conversation/encouragement/tips, etc going on.

Things do move fast sometime, but everyone is very friendly & sometimes silly, empathetic, moving, mildly irritating :rolleyes1.

Just hang in--or on-- and I'm sure in no time you will feel at home. I'm beginning to really like this group!:goodvibes

Mary let me know when you are ready to join a team. I have openings and there are several newbees on each team.

Welcome to our world. I'm one of the few sane ones on here so watch out for some of the really strange on here:

Kristi: recently escaped from a funny farm is Up State New York and is believed to have gone to ground in NH.

Bill: was abducted by aliens and they did some things that were just awefull to him, so if he sounds like he is not all there, please be kind.

Jeanne: Is a reforming chocolateaholic. She did time for a midnight commando raid at the Hershey's factory.

Judy: Is queen of a small army of folk called the "YARC".

Mel: Watch out for her, she once turned a fellow WISHer into a toad.

Vic: He is really out there, his mind had an out of body experience and never came back.

Craig: He is hiding in the academic world, he was run out of the fashion world for being just to weird. Has been known to enjoy the company of rabbits.

Well you get the idea. It's a weird world out there so be careful.

Aloha all, and happy Valentine's day

Shan & Princess

You've got "Plumber's crack", I thought only men had that problem. Good going, your bodies are shrinking away, and now you have to go get new running gear. Nothing wrong with that.

I keep showing my wife how my clothes are all loose, and she keeps handing me a belt. So much for her "catching on" that I need new work clothes. LOL. :rotfl:

Now I have to remove my wedding band on race days, since it's gotten so loose. I don't want to worry about loosing it while I sprint for the finish line.

Lost photos
I was scanning the lost photos on ASI from the WDW half and full marathon. There are quite a few WISHERS in there. It takes a while to click page after page, but if you didn't get an official email with your pictures, be sure to go check. What's weird is the race numbers are readable, but the WISHERs still ended up in the Lost files.

Have a good training day for those logging miles today. I plan to do 6-8 miles this afternoon.

Great Aloha Run expo starts tomorrow here in Honolulu. Wooooo Whooo, more freebies and new gear to inspect.

Happy Valentine's Day! Here's a little chocolate gift, from the very bottom of my heart:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b109/deekaypee/heart.jpg

Angie: 2 hours at the gym...and you're cheating?? You really are a runner (and I mean that in the best sense). Cheating for me involves, I don't know, untold quantities of caffeine, chocolate, wine, and sultry men. Not necessarily in that order.

TXAng: I'm keeping positive thoughts for you, in hopes that you can begin running soon!

Allie: Are there any 5Ks around you? It seems like such a pity not to take advantage of that raring to race feeling.

Stephanie: Whoo-hoo on the miles in, though! Slow, and ugly (sorry about that), but you completed them.

Carrie: Congrats on the new shoes. Now I have shoe envy, which is nothing like ***** envy in case you're wondering. (Gotta love our censors.)

Stacie: Wow, wanting to run in the rain. I can't imagine it being a great time, but I'm so glad you found it to be so! I know what you mean about training weight; mine likes me--a lot.

Lisa: Thanks for the tip about the waterproofing spray. That's two of you who like running in the rain. Makes me wonder what I'm missing. It's not as if I'm so sweet I'd melt.

WWDave: Was that fair? Yep. And I bet you that chocolate lab is the best chocolate Erica's ever had. :goodvibes

SamSam: WTG on walking to the fitness center! Don't you love doing double-duty like that!

JeninGA: Are you sure the pinecone accidents were due to wind conditions and not irate squirrels? :confused3

Aloha Jeff: Yea, yea, yea. You need to take the band off because it's loose? Are you sure it's not because races are a great place to meet people??? :rotfl2: Good luck with the Aloha Run. I hope there's really cool swag.

Sandy: That's great news with the splits. BUT... I've been away from news all day, and am really saddened about the NIU news. :sad1: Thanks for letting us know.

As for me: I have to say that the Chi Running book may be slowly convincing me of its usefulness. I tried a couple of exercises, and they make a lot of sense. I'm pretty sure the ideas are what natural, efficient runners do; I am neither, and so need all the help I can get. I'm not sure I'll try to adopt it full-scale yet, but it's reaffirmed my need to practice yoga regularly. And I think I need to commit to trying Chi Walking for a while; Chi Running might be a little much for me to process right now. I did manage to make it outdoors for a little walk today (still too icy to run for any real distance, each block has huge strips of ice alternating with dry spots. But I attempted some of the book's suggestions and I think the ideas will make a difference in my form over the long-term.

Carrie and Vic...thanks for offering to help. The weekend in question is Feb 22-24.

Can someone remind me next year at the Pop meet...in addition to the big WISH team photo, we should do photos of each of our sub-teams.

I have a serious case of LTO this week so I'll check back in with y'all later.

Got out of work late tonight so I only had time for 40 minutes on the treadmill. 3 miles in 40:45 which gives me a new PR pace of 13:35 (my last PR pace for 2 miles or more was 13:48 last Saturday). I was exhausted and drenched and starving, so I wonder how long I could have sustained that if I'd been properly fueled, properly hydrated and dressed in wicking clothes. LOL! I really wish I could do this on the roads, but can't trust the terrain. Now, I have to work up the courage to do some hills.

Sorry this all about me. Swamped at work and DD19 is here from campus for a little while. off to gather hugs!

Good evening everyone!

Talked to Lily earlier today and she hopes to go home tomorrow. I am so very happy she is doing well. I'm jumping for joy! :yay:

So, Big Vic will be in charge next week? Oh, the possibilities boggle the mind!

Um, plumber's crack? Sweat? Oh what has happened to our lovely, quiet, calm, unassuming little thread here?

I'm so trying to get back into the swing of workouts. Since the marathon I've been rather unmotivated. I'm able to workout on the weekends but it's rather hard during the week. I'm being lazy but there you go.

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a nice evening!

Well happy Valentine's Day everyone. Sorry this can't be longer and not all about me but I wanted to report in that because of the team challenges I forced myself to go out this afternoon after work. And let me tell you it was BEAUTIFUL - I want to thank those who blew/wished their cold down here because today was nice - it was about 70F (woke up this AM around 62F - but it won't last for long - back up to 80F tomorrow) As much as I like to complain about the weather I am so thankful that I have a beautiful route to run - I got up to the beach and it was gorgous. To bad I didn't have a camera - the sun was setting in the west and to the east there were a bunch of small clouds - the clouds were pink and blue - then the clouds were pink and white and below the clouds but above the ocean was a baby blue color (I have a fascination with clouds and the sky) It was like watching something on my HDTV.

Ok so enough about the clouds and the sky blah blah I am proud to say I was able to get 3.5 miles more in for my team this week (although the rest of the week was really suffering!!) Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Friday.

OK, I've given up on catching up on this thread, but wanted to post anyway! I have a busy couple of weeks coming up so I may be posting only sporadically for a bit, but you should know that I am checking in here at least once a day for my dose of motivation!

I went on the TR for the very first time today - it was just too cold again for me to face the outdoors, and anyway I had just joined the gym and wanted to make use of the membership.

I have always had a bit of fear about the treadmill. I think it is the image of George Jetson falling off into space while trying to walk his dog that has haunted me my whole life. I really thought I would just get pulled off the back of it! But once I got the hang of it it really wasn't too bad. If only my gym had better TV playing!

I did have a bit of an incident at the beginning when I dropped my I-pod and it went flying off the treadmill, and I tried to jump off while it was still moving  . But only one person saw me, and I figured out quickly that that was a really bad idea!

Anyway, I'm just checking in to let you know I'm still out there, still moving, and still loving being part of this team!

I vote for jumping in and posting!! I admire those that take the time and comment on everyone!! I'm a jumper! and a reader... and a lurker at times!!

That's what I love about the WISH team - there's room for everyone!! :goodvibes

I went out for a 6 miler after work. Nice sunny weather, so I ran along the beach in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel. I got a good workout running through the sand.

Expo tomorrow, yeah.

Have a good Aloha Friday everyone, and good workouts to all.

At least you didn't do what I did when I dropped my iPod on the treadmill. I was all ready on the cool down so I tried to reach down and pick it up while the treadmill was still running. I fell and rode that thing off the end. Thankfully the treadmill is in my home and no one else was there to see me. It did mess up my back and required a trip to the chiropractor though!

Saturday, I dropped my sponge about half way through my 6-mailer. I knew Iwould not start again if I got off, so I left it adn told Scott not to better. SOme angel finished her work out a few minutes later and got it for me. WISH I knew who she was. That was so nice!

Did 40 min last night and have a 5K tomorrow. That means our scheduled 7-miler is now Monday :sad2: , but it wil be good to get outside. Sad when that 24 degrees sounds balmy to me.

Hi Everyone -

I am having major issues with LTO. However, I am promising myself that I will get back to serious training next week. (don't remind me that I said that last week.)

I think I have decided on my new computer configuration. It seems like every time I buy a new one I have to learn a whole new language.

NEPatsbill seems to be awfully quiet these days. I hope that is because he is busy exercising....

Shan - I tend not to like compression shorts because they get too hot in late spring and summer. Go with the lightest weight fabric you can find. Nike has some new ones with a narrower leg cut that make my legs look skinny - I think I am going to get those.

Good morning, team! Happy belated Valentine's Day. I hope it was wonderful for everyone. Mine wasn't so great, I was rear-ended on my way home from work. Actually a van rear-ended a car which rear-ended me, I don't have any damage to my car at all, not even scratch. I'm okay, my back is sore, but that's all, I am going to the doctor in about an hour just to make sure that the baby is okay, but I had my coat on, a hat in my pocket which lays across my stomach when I sit, and the coat is longer, so that was bunched up around my stomach too--all that padding between the seat belt and my stomach, so I think the baby is fine. My doctor wants to see me just to double check and ease my mind too. So exciting, huh? :) Of course I didn't get to walk last night or probably tonight either, so forgive me Bunnies, as my total this week is extremely low.

Glad to hear that Lily is doing so great and should be home from the hospital soon.

WW Dave--I agree with Debra that has got to be the best chocolate you've ever gotten in your life! I'd love to have another lab, I think Hines could use a brother.

Kira--Ask Carrie about her TM experiences. :rolleyes1

Carrie--LYMI!!!!

I better get off here and some work done before I leave for the doctor. I'll post when I get back.

Not sure what this weekend holds, workout wise because of some unexpected work stuff that will have me here much of the weekend. Hoping to get Howard to go to the gym with me in the early a.m. tomorrow before I come in to the office. It's only the first week of classes but I think he can already use the break and I'd love to get him in the routine of weekend workouts. :cool1: :lovestruc

Same here.

This thread is so hard to keep up with but I must admit when I read Jeff's description of his run I was jealous LOL!

I hit the gym last night for two miles on the treadmill and then my weight circuit.

We then spent Valentines putting the closet organizer in the hall closet. It was a challange. The unit I bought at target FITS, but only if you assemble it IN the closet! At one point, Randy was holding the unit up over my head while I tightened the bolts. I must really trust him!

Krista--I know that was a little scary for you & Steven as well. I pray everything is ok w/you and the baby. Please let us know how your doctors visit goes.

Jeff--I'm w/Carol...I'm so jealous about where you get to run!

Not too much to report here. I did do 3 miles on the dreadmill last night. Hopefully next week will be a much better week for me. It seems that LTO in a major way this week. I finally joined a gym though so I hope to get that started Monday. I've NEVER taken a spin class so I'm a little nervous about that. I need a beginner's beginner class, haha.

I have a question about ice baths. When do you start taking them?

Have a great weekend everybody.

Krista: OMG... I'm so glad to hear you're ok. And I'll repeat what the others' said....please post here when you get a chance. Would love to hear how the doctor appt went.

Cheryl: As for ice baths...i usually do them after my longer long runs...or based on how I feel. So I may do one after an 8 miler if my legs felt heavy. But typically I don't do them until 10 mile or longer runs. Spin class is awesome...I was SOOO nervous to do it but now that I've taken a few I really *LOVE* them. Great cross-training activity.

Carrie: Thanks for asking about my arm. It was doing better earlier this week but after teaching my 7th class (this am) it's sore again. More so in the elbow area than the shoulder now. I think it's some form of tennis elbow except I guess I should call it yoga-elbow LOL! I believe it's from doing plank, pushup and downward dog (no comments from the peanut gallery on that one) so much during the week.

Jeff...I'm soooo jealous. Someday I will get to Hawaii. :goodvibes

----------------------------------

As for me....just did my normal week. Went to spin class again yesterday. :goodvibes LOVE IT! I've been teaching and taking pilates classes all week...but surprisingly I don't feel so bad. I still have to head to the gym to do my 3 mile speed work training (building up slowly)...I'm really easing back into training. The Minnie is a perfect race to train for because I feel like I can give my running muscles a bit of a break and build up nice and slow.

I hope everyone has a great weekend :).

Hey all... Been a busy crazy week for me. Lots of issues at work and home. we are going to HS Musical on Ice tomorrow. Total suprise to the girls. We also may make a visit to Lambeau field (GO PACKERS) since it is next door to the ice arena.

Cam - That is awesome. No matter what I do, I have a hard time improving my pace on a TM. You should be proud.

Krista - Take care, glad to hear you are OK!!

Carrie - You sure do battle issues on the TM, so glad you were safe during this one. Last week I dropped the TV remote and I skipped up to not step on it and it flew off the back. I too stayed safe!!!!

Sorry for not hitting everyone, but there are many posts and I have so little time!!!! Have a great weekend everyone. We are yet again in a freeze here in Wisconsin. It's no wonder my training is suffering. I hope that going to Disney on Ice will be considered cross training!!!
