Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I just back from the doctor, the baby is fine. :) :rainbow: The doctor checked the heartbeat, it's at 150--does any one want to make a guess if the baby is a boy or a girl??? ;)

Krista

Glad to hear you guys are ok.

Great news Krista!!! :goodvibes

Have you narrowed down the names yet? I'm guessing girl btw!

Well Krista, unless you have ultrasonographic evidence (or an amnio) the only way to tell is....shhhh....it's a secret...when you go into labor and they hook the toco monitor to your belly, if during your contractions, the baby's heartbeat dips way down then comes back really fast, it's a boy. If the heartbeat stays fairly steady with only small accels/decels, welcome girl. My DD's heartbeat was 130 and so was my DS's so no way to tell until the bitter end. GOOD LUCK and so, so, so glad to hear you both are okay.

And surprises happen.

My coworker's wife was told that based on the ultrasound it was a girl. And out comes.. A BOY! There was some gift returning!

Enjoy the write up in today's Honolulu Advertiser on the Great Aloha Run (8.15 miles).
http://honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080215/SPORTS17/802150350/1066/SPORTS17

I keep telling people, yeah someone has to live in Hawaii, so it might as well be me.

I'll post some photos from the Great Aloha Run on Monday.

If anyone is considering the Honolulu Marathon in December, send me a note, and I can give suggestions on the race and what to do in Hawaii.

Icebaths Get used to doing it now after your long runs, that way it's not a complete shock when your in pain after a race. Sit in cold water, and slowly add in ice cubes to your tolerance level. Sit in there for 10-15 minutes. It's a big help in recovery from aches, pains, and injuries.

Happy training everyone!

I meant to say thank you, Carrie! I know it might not seem fast to the faster walkers and more accomplished runners, but building up to that speed has been very rewarding for me. And it puts me more than 4 minutes ahead of the Minnie sweepers! :scared1:

You know how I feel about that, but there are alot of newbies here, so I want ot share.

We are all different paces and, while a bad day for one, might be an awesoem day for another, we're still really just competing wiht ourselves. We all know what bad days and good days feel like and teh joy and teh pain are the same no matter if you're and 8 mpm or a 20 mpm person. We all want comfort when we have those bad days and I lvoe sharign in teh joys of teh good days, expecially PRs!

Krista - Thansk fo reporting back. SO glad all are ok!

Sandy - My friend has a son at NIU. I saw teh news, but was watching a move on my palm and could not tuune in. Thank God, he was not only ok, but has been interviewed in at least 3 papers (from her to LA) because he helped some victims with first aid. HOpe all your son's friends are ok. Way too scary!

Well, if it's a boy, it's going to feel awfully funny being named "Little Judith Anne." :lmao:

Maybe I'll start a trend! If there are girls out there named Logan and Ryan, I can certainly name my son Judith Anne! (Love the "e" at the end--very Anne Shirley :) ) ;)

CarolA--That's why regardless of what the u/s says, I plan on buying gender neutral bedding, car seat, stroller, etc just in case. :)

Amy--Everyone keeps saying they think it's a boy, but no one can say why they think that. Well, one lady at work told me she noticed my butt is getting wider, which I guess to her means a boy. But I am happy to say I have only gained like 7lbs so far, hoping that is normal and not too much! I do have names picked out, for a boy it's definitely Carter Stephen after my grandpa (which is funny because if I were a boy I was going to be Stephen Carter :) ). We're still up in the air with the girls name, I love Susannah, Stephen is still on the fence about it, so who knows. But if it were up to me, it would be Susannah Carol (my Mom and Stephen's Mom are both named Carol, so that's easy).

Thanks again for everything! I love this team!

I do. Scott insited that I take one last year because everyone laughs when he says Port-o-Pot city. I'll find it this weekend. Do you need it e-mailed to you or just posted?

On the ice baths - how deep do you fill the water? Only enough to cover your legs while sitting up?

How many miles do people start doing this? I've only run 8 at most, but I was sore for a few days after. Next week I run 9 and I'm wondering if I should do this. Sounds painful itself! :scared1:

Carrie thanks for telling me about the son who was assisting in First Aid - I'm not able to watch all the news - and the ones that I heard interviewd on Today - all ran out of the classroom (they were all sitting in the back of the stadium - and I am grateful they did get out) I just cant believe we're still talking about school shootings!!

Krista and Steve

You know, I know, and everyone knows, that everything is fine with your baby, but there is that little nagging doubt when something like that happens. I'm glad you got the reassurance you needed so quickly. And I have to ask, since there are so many medical types around here. A heart rate of 150 is obviously typical for a baby at this stage of development. When does this slow down? I have no clue :confused3 , and would love to know the answer.

Carrie and Cammie

Absolutely correct, your competition is with yourself today. Not with anyone else, and not with what we could do in past years. Did I have a result today that makes me smile? If the answer is yes, then congratulations are always in order. If the answer is no, you get another try in a few days.

I vaguely recall some comments back and forth between Cam and I during July of 2005, about how to build up enough speed and endurance to meet the time requirement for the January 2006 half marathon. Did you ever imagine, just 30 months later that you'd be 2.5 mpm faster?

If you could go back and tell yourself of your latest result, the conversation would have sounded like this (assuming you were a Deleware surf dude):

Dude, in 2 1/2 years you'll be doing 13:30's
No way
Way
No way dude
Total way dude

Amy

They call Hawaii paradise for a reason. Actually, my bride says that paradise doesn't begin to capture it. You have to get there, and if that means the Honolulu marathon to entice Scott, do it. If the 2 of us could move our jobs there, we'd be 21st century Hawaiians. Telecommute! That's the solution.

Craig -- you were one of the first WISHers to provide absolute, unrelenting support and to express your absolute faith in my ability to do what I needed to do to finish my first WDW 1/2 marathon. Have I told you lately I  you? Really, truly, I just don't think I'd still be doing this (and improving) without the unwavering support and encouragemnt (and praise! yes, I'll admit I'm needy) of the WISH team!! :grouphug: Cool, Dude! ;)

Shan - I fill just so teh top of anything that's hurting is covered. Usuallu that's my whole legs. I susually start when I go over 1 these days, but if you're legs are feeling achy post runs or the next day give it a whirl.

Craig -- Care to reiterate those comments for us newer, old slow people? (Seems to have worked for Cam.)

Also, for the back of the pack set, do you recommend having scream teamers secure FPs for EE (as we won't get there until well past opening) or should we just hit KRR to cool off and have someone nearby with dry shoes and socks?

Krista--so glad to hear that the baby is doing well, and that the accident wasn't more serious. Take care of yourself!:grouphug:

Cam--WTG on your PR!:yay: Dude, you're awesome!

No training to report here today. Yesterday I did almost 40min on this new xtraining apparatus. It was a good workout. It's a weird piece of equipment, though. It's what I would imagine the offspring would look like if you were to mate an elliptical and a stairmaster. Okay, crying child...gotta run!

Shan - I think it was Krista last year who gave the valuable advice about wearing a sweatshirt during the ice bath. Before that I was just shivering and miserable! Last year I started around 8 miles; I did one after the half and will probably do them after distances over 14/16 miles this season.

Cam - Meant to tell you earlier how proud I am of you for your PR. You have come SO FAR!!!!! Like you and Carrie said, we all have different paces, and every victory is a big deal to the one making it. I can't wait to see how your next 5K goes.

Krista - Glad the baby is okay. That had to be such a scare! :scared1: I'm saying girl too, but my guesses don't mean much. My prediction for DD was boy. 'Nuff said.

WWDave - I think Erica is a genius. No one can ever have enough animals, especially dogs. (Although we did just make the decision to stay at one since DD will be going off to college in a year and we'll be more free to go when we want if we only have to board or travel with one dog...)

Have a great weekend everyone!

They are pretty much what we sent back and forth in the e-mail thread last November.

I tell you what, if I get one more request from someone beginning to build up to the January half or full, I'll write it out in a separate thread and delicately ask Darlin' Lily (did you get to come home today Lily?) to sticky the thread. That way the new folks who are beginning the process could see it.

And, it won't be short, sorry.

Gotta go, have a glass full of champagne sitting next to me, looking for a home.

Cam: That's great news on the PR! I really can't wait to hear how you do when your work settles down and you get some time to focus on your running. :thumbsup2 I hope your weekend is productive and not too frustrating.

Martha: Thanks so much for the update on Lily. I've been less motivated than usual, too. You'll get your mojo back soon, I hope. I think you should pat yourself on the back for working out on the weekends.

Tricia: The weather & sights there sound (sigh) so lovely. I'm glad you're getting to enjoy them as you run! 3.5 is great!

Kira: Your fear of TM/George Jetson comparison made me laugh out loud. That's exactly how I used to feel. It gets better, although I still crowd the bar. And I'm always dropping things; I think others at the gym now avoid getting on the machines next to me...

Aloha Jeff: Another person who's enjoying beautiful runs! Yea for you! I think I'll live vicariously through everyone's descriptions. (My descriptions would include the words gray, slushy, icy, but warmer than earlier this week. Cold spell pending.) I love the that Great Aloha Run refuses to call itself a race. It's the kind of event I would love to do. Maybe I can talk DH into a trip to Hawaii with such bait... :rolleyes1

Carrie: Good luck on the 5K tomorrow! And I loved your post about how we're all competing with ourselves. That's so true.

Cecilia: I hope your LTO issues are almost at an end. I know you're just itching to pick up on the training again. Thanks for the heads-up on the Nike compression shorts. I need to think about trying them.

Krista: Thank goodness you and the baby are safe! The accident must have been so scary. I vote for, um, baby. I've never gotten the boy/girl lottery correct, so I've quit guessing. Maybe one of each?

CarolA: I'd rather do 2 miles on a TM than try to put together a closet organizer! All thumbs, I am! And you did both! I guess it's the kind of thing that brings two people closer together (or tears them apart), so it's kind of fitting you did that on Valentine's Day!

Cheryl: Congrats on joining the gym. I can't wait to hear about your spinning class.

Shan: WTG with the 5-miler. I hope next week gets easier for you! I didn't do ice baths until the race, as we don't have a bath in our apt. I did do cold showers, though, starting at about 12 miles. It helped me acclimate for the ice bath after the 1/2, but I do wish I would have been doing baths all along.

Amy: I'm glad you're feeling better and hope your speed work went well. I'm getting a little envious about all the fun you Minnie WISHers are going to have.

Jen: Have a great time at HSM on Ice. The girls are gonna love it! I certainly hope Wisconsin warms up for you, as I know those long winter days seem even longer when it's so cold.

Craig: That's a great story, recounting your conversations with Cam. It gives this tortoise hope! Your comments are always appreciated!

Stephanie: The XT equipment sounds like something at our club. Do you know what it's called?

As for me: I made the oh-so-adult and oh-so-depressing decision not to attempt to run today. Runner's knee, I think. I've been experiencing lots of little twinges with my right knee over the past week, and have been increasingly achy and cranky about it. Finally, DH asked me how many nights this week I've put an ice pack on the knee. I thought about it, then admitted: "Every night." So I took another day off running, though I did no impact XT, and will be adjusting my training schedule. I'm trying to be reasonable, to take care of myself before my knee becomes a real problem, and to follow the advice of my inner Penguin, but I'm a little upset. I'm going to try again tomorrow and hope I just needed an extra day & a lighter schedule.

Speaking of lighter, here's a lighter note to end on. DH and I were talking about my posts here. He has suggested I refer to him as DOOD (pronounced Dude) rather than DH. He says it stands for "Dear One of Debra." (The acronym makes a lot more sense if you read a Pgh restaurant critic named Munch, but I digress.) I warned him that y'all will just start referring to him as DOODie, but he seems to think you're more mature than I am. So DOOD it is.

Ice Baths
You know, team, we may need to give further explanation of how to do an ice bath. That video had me :scared1: !!

1. DO NOT put the ice in the tub first.
2. DO NOT go butt naked into the water..this is NOT A BATH!!

Fill the tub up, like Carrie said, just enough to cover your legs with cool water. Someone else likes to get in while the tub is filling to get acclimated. Wear socks, a sweat shirt, wear shorts, have a hot drink handy, or a beer, or orange juice, bring a book...

Add ice to bring the water temperature down. Forty pounds of ice in a regular tub is a bit much... Ten hotel ice buckets/five hotel trash cans..better :rolleyes1

Stay at least ten minutes.

When to do it...rather than miles, think time. After your legs have been pounding the pavement for 2 hours or more, that would be a good time to try an ice bath.
Other helps? :goodvibes

I read and I read and I never have time to post and then feel too overwhelmed trying to remember what I wanted to say to everyone . . . but I'll give this a shot:

I tell you what, if I get one more request from someone beginning to build up to the January half or full, I'll write it out in a separate thread.

Consider this another request. If Debra is an energizer tortoise, I'm an energizer snail!

and speaking of Debra, I think your husband is giving us waaaaay too much credit. I for one am quite sure that if I should ever meet him, I will now feel compelled to say Howdy Doodie.

Anne Thanks for the explanation/instruction on the ice baths. A month too late for me, but now I know better!

Lily Glad to hear your good news and hope you are resting comfortably at home and be waited on hand and foot.

Krista, glad you and the little one are okay. Oh, and i will guess girl. Which means you should stock up on blue, because I have never once been right about this except with my own two sons (and come to think of it, I'm batting .500 at that).

Now for the lame catch-all part of the post: For everyone who has been putting in the miles, great job! Keep it up. For everyone who is ailing, healing pixie dust headed your way. For everyone swamped with work or life, I hope it all clears up soon. For anything else, insert appropriate WISHes here.

BTW, I cannot believe it has been over a month since marathon weekend! Where does the time go? We'll all be back there again before you know it :scared1:

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Got your princesses mixed up this time.....Nancy is the one who lives a stone's throw from Hershey. Just put me down as the WISHer who recruits for nudie races! :rotfl:

Dave & Jeanne I don't care who is in charge but I want IN on the next Chocolate Factory Raid! Count me in if there is a ice cream run too :lmao:

I'm currently the lazy WISHer. I think Dave can add me to the list of who has had a out of body experience and the brain wasn't returned. Or maybe it's heart. I haven't been able to drag myself out of this slump.

Yay!!! Glad to hear that Lily is coming home or did she already? I'm so behind the times but am glad to hear she is heading home.

Debra... a big Hi out to the DOOD LOL I really need to drag myself to the yoga/pilates classes.

Mel did I see you heading to WDW? And what's this about toads? :lmao: Have fun!!!!

Welcome to our new team mates!!!! :)

Good job Anne except you forgot to tell them to leave their socks on. This protects the toes. Oh and I prefer a cold beer to a hot drink but I will settle for coffee if I have to be a grown up that day.

Also, 40 pounds of ice is overkill unless you started with the water too warm. :rolleyes1

Don't let your children watch your spouse pour ice on you. popcorn:: Or if you do, explain to them that they shouldn't tell the kids at school what mommy says when the ice hits her knees.

Lily is home and in pain. But I think being at home and in pain is better than being in the hospital in pain. God bless her and I hope she gets better really soon.

I'd love to hear your advice! I am in month two of my training and running is a completely new thing for me. DH and I registered for the Half with friends. If you get a chance to make a post with your tips, I would be thankful! :)

On a side note, not a good week here. I did some miles inside on the Gazelle but the weather has been too bad to get outside and work on the Couch25K as I was. I am frustrated but the sides of the roads are really icy/bumpy with frozen slush and so I have been staying in. I really just wish it would all melt and warm up!

Would a tray or two from the freezer suffice? :confused3

How soon after the run should you do this? I usually like to eat lunch when I get back in.
And I'm assuming I should also take a cold shower after I get out of the bath? (Should be fun trying to shave my legs... )

Hi All -

I fought back the ol' LTO and got out and ran my 10 miler today. We ran lots of mean ole hills that had my legs begging for mercy. I think I am ready for my half marathon in two weeks.

Shan - I usually get a large bag of ice from the grocery store. There needs to be a significant amount of ice to make it worthwhile. Once I have done the ice bath I treat myself to a warm shower. I run about 20 minutes from my house so I rarely get in my ice bath until about 45 minutes after my run.

Another point about ice baths: I have skipped them after 20 milers but taken them after an 8 miler. I only take them when I am going to need to recover quickly. If I need to run again the next day, I might take one. If I have the luxury of resting for a day or two, I skip the ice bath and live with the aches. I actually LIKE the way my legs feel after a hard run.

Today I feel great, all the sudden I feel good about running again. :goodvibes

Hi all! Newbie here!

I love the team support I have witnessed and heard about so much about so I am looking to make myself officially a WISHER. My DH is sort of an "honorary" WISHER already -- kzmarathon. He's really the runner in the family racking up 1000 miles while running in the hot desert sands of Iraq. He's my hero! :lovestruc :lovestruc

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and start getting to know you all better. I'm currently training for the Cotton Row 5K in Huntsville, AL in May and the WDW Half. It will be my 5th time going for the Donald and I'm hoping for a PR! :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :donald:

Happy training!

I keep reading about the ice baths... I don't know. I don't like cold! (That's why I live in the SOUTH! LOL!)

Debra, Take care of that knee.

Kristen. Welcome. I am a newbie too, but everyone seems very nice. (A little crazy, but very nice :rotfl2: ) And I am VERY impresssed by your DH!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I went out and did five miles in an hour. Pretty good for me. I have hopes of not being DLF next week, but I will be in the back of the pack. That's what I get for starting to train for a 10K three weeks in advance. :confused3

As I was leaving the park, Randy showed up to start his 20 miler..... So the "runing together" is really kind of "We talk about it!" LOL! He is very supportive of me however.

I still haven't signed up for the Minnie... I Have a training plan, but I am just scared i can't do a 15K (of course If I can can't do this, HOW do I plan to do the half???)

And Lensham's thread on running shorts has me wanting to go shop for "new stuff" LOL!

Have a great holiday for those of you that get it. (I will be at work, we don't get President's Day!)

Hi, Kristen!! How are you, sweetie? If anyone doesn't know it, Kristen's husband is Kevin who has been Howard's race partner (and Lynne's) the past two years at Disney. We are so blessed to call them our friends -- close in our hearts no matter how far away we are from each other. They are an absolutely remarkable couple of people -- so Kristen will fit in here soooo well. Oh, and Kevin is our Minister for our Disney Vow Renewal next January, too. :bride:

Kristen -- I am so proud of you for carving time out this week to get out running -- I can't imagine how difficult that might be at times. Everyone here understands about LTO ("life took over"). Be sure to let us know how your training is going. I KNOW you'll get your PR on January 10! :woohoo:

Thank you so much to everyone for making Kristen feel welcome. And I am going to take the opportunity to ask everyone to keep Kevin and his whole family in your prayers until he is safely home again. :lovestruc :grouphug:

Maherae and Cecilia: Wait, we don't need to be naked for the ice bath? There might have been a hot brandy involved? Dang! I think DOOD just likes to torture me with his stoic ways. Either that, or it's a free show (and not much of one, as I huddled and used language I forgot I knew.) :rotfl: Thanks for the tips!

Erica: DOOD thanks you for helping him realize what he's in for next January. I thank you for making me laugh uncontrollably.

Diane: We're going to a new yoga class tomorrow, and crossing our fingers that this one will feel like the right balance of challenging and relaxing. Not asking for much, are we?

Martha: I hope your 3 miles flies by and is fun!

Allyson: Congrats on signing up for the 1/2 and with friends. That will make training more enjoyable. I hope the weather clears up for you, as it can be frustrating not to be outside. Better than risking injury on icy paths, though!

Kristen: Welcome to the WISH team. It sounds like you're already an old hand, so I'll be looking forward to your stories, your tips, and your overall presence. Do tell your DH we appreciate all that he does! It's also good to put names to another couple that I know (vicariously) through Cam's stories.

CarolA: Good job on the 5 miler! I'm sure the race will go as well as possible. Remember DLF > DNF > DNS! One step, one race at a time. We know you can do the 15K and the 1/2!

As for me: After yesterday's pity party, I ended up icing my knee again and taking it easy. This morning I told myself to "man up" since there was no pain, and I managed to complete a measly little run. The run was short and slow, but I did it. The knee's still tender but it feels better than yesterday, so I'm hopeful my revised schedule will alleviate the problem without throwing me off schedule; DOOD and I have decided to commit to Cleveland in May (1/2 for me, full for him). I'll need to be open to a RW, I think, but I should be able to complete the 1/2. And my motto thus far in my racing career is "train to complete, not to compete." Lame as my knee, I know.

Welcome Kristen! :flower3:

I finally just did it today, went back outside. I had to be careful to avoid sections of ice but I was so tired of being inside. It was cold, below 30, but I warmed up quick. Did W1D2 of the Couch 25K again (I am repeating Week One) and really felt good. I think I can move to W2 now.

GOOD EVENING TEAM!!!

I have been training this week  after my speedy run on Monday I decided I might be able to pull off a good speed at MINNIE after all. So here is what I have done since tuesday:

Wednesday: rest
Thursday: speedwork on treadmill and Bodyflow (yoga - kinda) I really pushed myself on treadmill speedwork. In fact on the whole discussion of what do we think about while we run?? Seriously all I thought the whole time was "HOW STUPID WILL I LOOK IF I BARF ALL OVER THIS TREADMILL RIGHT NOW?":lmao:
Friday: nothing!!! :scared1:
Saturday: Gym - Core, Bodypump (weights), Bodyattack (good old fashioned aerobics which I have figured out is the perfect addition to my training plan because we do a lot of athletic type intervals where I REALLY spike my heart rate and am able to push myself. )

Tomorrow will be 5 or 6 miles?? depends on how I feel. So far back is GREAT!!! Sorry once again no time to catch up with everyone, but tomorrow before church I am going to jump on here and try to stay on it this week!! :lovestruc

P.S. - I might have to change my ticker because I am thinking about doing RYKA IRONGIRL 5 or 10K in Clearwater which is actully right by where the marina I might build is going to be. The race is April 5 I haven't decided yet, almost the whole thing is over a bridge toward the beach which goes at a pretty decent incline. Guess I will have to add hillwork to treadmill?!!!

Welcome Kristen! I am in training for the CR 10K (if I chicken out, I may do the 5K with ya';) )! Glad to have you here! You'll really like it here. Everyone here is so supportive, and they have answers and advice for everything, so just ask. I wanted to do the UAH 10K, and thanks to my WISH advisors, I've decided to wait until the Cotton Row. It would be too much too fast. Hope to see you around.

I went out and did five miles in an hour. Pretty good for me. I have hopes of not being DLF next week, but I will be in the back of the pack. That's what I get for starting to train for a 10K three weeks in advance. :confused3

I still haven't signed up for the Minnie... I Have a training plan, but I am just scared i can't do a 15K (of course If I can can't do this, HOW do I plan to do the half???)

You can do it! I signed up for it and I don't come close to 5 miles in an hour, I'm closer to 4 miles in an hour. Go for it!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I just back from the doctor, the baby is fine. :) :rainbow: The doctor checked the heartbeat, it's at 150--does any one want to make a guess if the baby is a boy or a girl??? ;)

Krista

I know it's a little late, but I'm so glad to hear that your baby is doing fine!
