No but that would be a good idea. It does have a choke near there. Same spot but the other side of the shifter.

Tungpo1 and I got together today and he lifted my cart 6". Ron ordered me the lift from Jakes and I got the wheels and tires from Lawnspecialties (Jamie). If you look at the very 1st picture on this thread those are my the tires I got from him. Anyway, I didn't get to Ron's til about 11:00 so we didn't knock as many beers down as we would've say if this was a Friday or Saturday project lol.
Here's the cart on the jack before Ron actually started unbolting the old suspension.

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s193/stacktester/SDC10198-2.jpg OK The back is done. I think that was around 3-4 beers. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s193/stacktester/SDC10199-2.jpg Front after the old tires were off. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s193/stacktester/SDC10200-2.jpg Ron's like why won't these old spindles come off. Donnie, grab me another beer will ya. Some kind of air tool with a screwdriver looking jackhammer majiggy thing and they came right off. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s193/stacktester/SDC10201-2.jpg After it was done. All in all I'm really happy with it. It doesn't fit in the camper no mo lol, so I'm either going to trailer it behind my camper or try and buy Lonestar's Swivelwheel to attach to my camper. The next step is to order the light kit and that should rap her up until it get's scratched up and becomes a Gator cart.

Thanks Scott. It's taken me a while to get it here but it's coming along. MrsGus has no hubcaps for her cart. I think in a drunken stooper I pulled them off last 4th of July. Just kidding. Anyway, I'm going to give her mine since they obviously don't fit my wheels. :rotfl2:
Ron really did a nice job. I knew there was no way to try this trick at home and Ron helped out a lot doing this for me. It's kinda hard to think too much of my cart when I'm standing next to his Harley cart all day lol.

I'm going the opposite this time with mine. No lift. Just some customization and low profile tires and rims this time but first I have to sell the Yamaha so I have the funds. Think I can work the funds into the Stimulus package? I think I could get it done cheap for say around $2 billion. I am Calling The "ONE" right now to let him know so he can add it in. When Ron put's my light kit on I'm gonna see if the Harley cart can be used like a loaner when you take your car in. I was trying to get it yesterday, but all I could find was an 18 pack of BL and no 24 pack. A few more and I might've had it on the trailer.

Here's the latest. I had to take the big tires off to get it in my camper. I put the little one's on and now it looks dorky. I thought I was going to get away with just the fronts but the backs were too wide as well. I clocked how long it takes to take the big one's off and put the little one's on. (16 minutes) I doubt NASCAR will call for a tire changer positon. I'm only using 2 lug bolts on each wheel since I'm just pulling it in and out of the camper. I also had to put 3 lockwashers on each stud of the front wheels for a spacer because the stock rims are wider than the big rims at least on the inside and they were rubbing the spindle. Eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkk lol. Nothing like a little metal to metal.
I have an electric impact wrench and a floor jack so that helps a lot to make it easier. I'll eventually get a swivelwheel to connect to the back and won't have to do this but for now it's the best I can do.

The roof isn't the problem. The big tires are too wide to fit in the door. As you can see how close the tires are on the ramp, the other side is about the same. I can't complain too much, at least I'm still makin a livin and can pay the payment.

Well......I know "I" used the old "If I buy my own cart, we wont have to spend that money on renting Disney carts ever again" in order to get my wife to agree to let me get one. I spent 10 days at the for last May, so another 62 days, and I will have made that logic true....thats if I dont add some more goodies to it....and Ive been looking at a diamond plate floorboard and pedals real hard for a couple of months....so it may soon go up to 66 days to break even. But at SOME POINT, I WILL break even...and having bought a cart will have saved me money over renting from Disney...as long as they keep raising the prices every other year or so!!!!:rolleyes1

I haven't gone through all of them so I apologize if this was already asked... but how do y'all get the carts to WDW? Do all of you have pick-up trucks and put it in the flat bed?
Just curious, thank you. We always rent a GC when we go to the Fort, but they are so expensive, I would much rather bring my own, but we don't own a truck..
Thanks.

Many put them in the back of their Pick Up and others put them in the back of their Toy Haulers. And then you have somethat tow them seperately on a utility trailer.

There are 3 ways I can think of to get a GC to The Fort.
1. Bed of pickup truck.
2. Alot of folks have toy hauler RV's.
3. Tow them on a trailer, your own or a rental.

Tiggntaz, Last summer I purchased an '05 Club Car and I really want to start making it my own. Is a paint job something that I can do myself? Is it possible to do a reasonable job with spray paint or do I need a paint sprayer. I am not considering anything elaborate, maybe two or three colors in a pattern that would compliment the MH.
http://hawxhurst.smugmug.com/photos/486392470_gNsGs-M.jpg
My plan was to take the body off the car, sand the finish so it would take new paint, mask a pattern and give it a try. Can I do it myself and achieve reasonable results or should I take it to my local body shop? TIA for any advice.

I have painted both my carts 1 of them twice. I also remove the body. Its not hard but you will spend around $100.00 doing it your self with paint cans. It looks ok when its done but its not a gun job. No body shop around here would do it so I did it my self. Tear down, paint, reassemble, 2-3 days taking it easy and letting the paint dry good.

This is for all of you golf cart guys & gals that have made mods to your carts. I told my husband the only thing I want for Christmas is to have our golf cart, excuse the lingo, "pimped out" for our trip in December. I want it painted, lifted and diamond plated. Hubby is not handy in that department so we would have to have the work done.
I've bugged the heck out of him and today he stopped into a golf cart place to get some info. The salesman there used to work for Ezgo (we have an Ezgo electric). When my husband asked him about having our cart lifted the salesman told him that an Ezgo golf cart should not be lifted. By doing so it throws off the gear ratio, how the engine operates, said the electrical system is not designed to handle the changes.
I've been toying with the idea of just trading in our old cart for one that is already done so I've been looking on Craig's list, ebay, and I see all kinds of carts lifted. Does this guy know what he is talking about?
Then the salesman shows my husband an electric Star golf cart. Brand new, lifted, diamond plated, any color I want for $6,800.00.
http://www.jhglobalinc.com/pdf/Lifted(LowRes).pdf
I think the guy gave him negative info on lifting ours because he wanted to sell him a new Star. What are your thoughts and advice on having an Ezgo lifted?

It is true that the way the factory built it was the way it was designed, but I see EZGO carts lifted all the time. Mine is a CLub car that I am lifting. Rember he has an interest in you buying a new cart. It is really up to what you want to spend?
What is he willing to sell you the new cart for after you trade in yours? A lift kit and new tires can cost you arount 750-1000 and then the cost of the diamond plating will be a few 100.
The start cart booklet said that it also has a 48 volt to 12 volt convertor, full light package and sound like it might be streetlegel depending on where your live and what the rules are. If you don't care about all that then just lifting yours might be the way to go.
I would see what he would give you for a trade on it. If the price to lift yours and the price of the new one after the trade is close I would get the new one, just because it is new. But I think you will find out that lifting yours is the way to go.
That is just my $.02 worth.

Being street legal is not a concern for us. My husband is concerned we won't be able to go up steep hills once we lift ours that the electrical system will be compromised somehow with the larger wheels, etc. Is that so?
Without seeing ours (2004) he said he would give us $2,000. Ours is in great shape and works perfectly. Keep in mind we also have to have ours painted. My son suggested taking it to Maaco for painting. We could definitely get ours done for much less but now hubby is all worried we aren't doing the right/safe thing by lifting ours. I'm going to drag him to another place for a second opinion on having the Ezgo done.
I've just bombarded his email mailbox with all the ones I've found on Craigslist!! :rotfl:

Do your research. Here is a forum that I use for my cart. I also kn ow BDR, Tungpo, Stacktester, DaddyscoolTV and a few more are also on this site.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com
You can also upgrade your motor and system that you have in your cart now and it would still be less then the $4500 the new one would cost you.
Also I just got my cart painted with flames for $300.

I don't know what Maaco would charge. I have mine done by a air brush/grafics guy here in Jacksonville. He did the flames and the blue base paint all for 300. I would pick up the yellow pages and start calling around.
Just make sure they sand it first and prep the body. Also ask if they have ever painted a cart before. Fiberglass cart bodys are differant then steel car bodeis.

if you just want it black I paid $300 for the body on my cart and it was a brand new body still in the shrink wrap. Real club car body also the black goes all the way through so if it gets scratched it's still black.

daddyscooltv is 100% correct...its just as cheap to by a new body cast in black as it would be to get a professional looking black paint job. Black is the hardest color to paint because it shows every little imperfection that happens durint the painting process. Google "golf cart body" or "bodies"...you'll find them, just as stated above, right at $300 and well worth it.
Ive never heard of not being able to lift a cart regardless of brand. granted...it may take a little more torque to turn the bigger tires...but unless you actually using and abusing this cart offroad...I seriously doubt you'll notice much of a difference. Send a PM to "Tungpo1" and ask his opinion...he may suggest a new controller...but it most certainly can be done without spending what your salesman wants to rape you for with a new cart.
Taz....the paint looks good man! Unique!

Wouldn't the tires rub if you let the air out to loat it?

On my yamaha's you could lower the cart 2 or 3 inches and still go straight just no turning. That's why I was thinking air bags. When making my dads top we took 6 inches out of the aluminum front post's.

I spoke with a guy today that all he does is rebuild golf carts for a living. We are going to see him tomorrow. He quoted me approximately $700 to upgrade our controller, $450 to paint and approx. $700 for the lift kit (with tires) the tires I pick will determine that price.
He also said we can wait on the controller upgrade and if we aren't happy with the performance then we can always bring it back and he will upgrade it. Do you suggest we just do the upgrade now?
I can't wait to post my before and after pictures!!!
Thank you all for your advice.

I think the misconception comes from the fact that you use iTunes (the software) to load music onto the iPod, but you don't HAVE to buy music from the iTunes Store to load to your iPod. You can import any music into iTunes to sync to the iPod.

$450 it not that bad as long as he removing the body painting it and re-installing it (Make sure he color sands the clear to get out all the orange peel).$700 for a lift kit tires and installation is not bad either long as its not too cheap of a lift. Aslo make sure you get heavy duty leafs put on if your lifting it and using a rear seat. The price of the controller sounds fishy find out the controller make and the amperage, also get at least 4 gauge wire to dissipate the heat.

Buy you a 1 ton diesel truck with a long bed. That way the cart goes in the bed of the truck and you can keep the pop up. You will never notice you are hauling either. Plus when you decide to get a toy hauler no problem because you already have the truck.

Yea I hear ya about buying a big truck up front. Which I should do but prob won't. I procrastinate too much. Besides like the cart I only need a regular truck 3 or 4 times a year. The rest of the time I can get by with compact car. I am seriously considering first a Toyota Tacoma with a 6500 lb tow cap or possibly the bigger Tundra. But I need a crew cab so I will have to get a long bed Tacoma or just the reg Tundra. So I can fit my bike or the cart in the bed and tow the camper too.
Rog the reason I envy you is that you got a hot looking cart and you don't even own a camper. I just want a cart to use at the Fort and while camping during Mardi Gras. Other than that it will sit most of the time. Unless I can get a fast one and then I could ride it to work if it could go about 4 miles on a charge.

The new 09 f-150 when properly equipped can tow up to 11,500 pounds might want to look at one they also say 21 mpg.(if you can believe them) As for the cart, with good batteries they should do around 20 miles per charge. Or a gas cart (which I have and love and drive every other day) can do over a 100 miles on a tank. Oh once you get a truck you will wonder how you ever lived with out it. All I have ever owned are 3/4 and 1ton 4x4's. But if you get a truck get a crew cab the 2 extra doors are nice.

You know, the only problem with the f-150's, if you get the crew cab, the bed is only like 4 and a half foot long :( I looked at em as an alternative to getting a new 250-350, but by the time you equip it out to tow etc, you could pay a couple grand more and get a nice long bed 250....

They make a bed longer then the 4.5' its around 6' still no 8 footer but better then 4.5'. But I agree the amount of money a 1/2 ton cost you might as well get a 3/4 or 1 ton. But when it comes to trucks I have always thought bigger is better. I wish I had a International CXT

I also have to agree that the 4 foot bed on the F150 grew cab SUCKS!!!! that is why I didn't buy one back in 2000 when I got my chevy 1500.

But yes I won't buy a truck unless it has a 6 foot bed. I need the room to fit my Harley in there once in a while and just maybe some day a cart.
Now that is just rubbing it in that you have a harley

I never thought I want to own a truck...was always the sports car type if I had a car at all. There were many many years that all I owned were motorcycles...rain or shine...thats how I was getting to work! After I got to hanging around these boards and got my cart...and started giving some real thought to eventually buying some kind of camper...I figured "what the hell...its the practical thing to do!" NOW.....I cant believe Ive wasted so much money on little cars that I never even knew I wasnt feeling safe in...I had no idea what power was...I thought speed meant power, I was sooooo wrong!! These guys here talked me into an F150...and I absolutely LOVE it, and will never go back to driving a car again. I always would end up needing a truck here and there, to transport crap from home depot, or furniture, or whatever, and would have to find a friend who trusted me enough to lend me his....now its not even a thought. Its always there...waiting to go to work for me....waiting to have the pleasure of hauling BIG CRAP or me. I love my truck. I know that sounds corny...but I really do!

You might want to get a little bit bigger trailer if you plan on hauling a cart on it. I remember the cart you wanted to build and it will most likely be bigger then 5'x8'. My cart is 5'x8' and I can remove the rear foot rest. Plus if you went a couple of feet longer you could mount a truck type tool box on it for extra storage. For bringing stuff to FW like your campsite decorations or coolers full of drinks. Just my 2 cents.

03-21-2009, 08:12 AM
I agree, I have a 5x10 trailer for the golf cart and it fits with just enough extra room to load up a bike or three. I think it might be too tight on a 5x8 if you add on a rear seat or the cart becomes a sled!! :goodvibes

And, of course, I'm reading this just AFTER making an offer on a 5x8! Oh well, I guess I can always leave the lift gate down! The width is ok, isn't it? I will be using low profile wheels not the big knobbys that are so popular.

Nice bike we almost bought the same bike in silver/blue a few years back. But I figured we should replace the wifes jeep(175,000 miles). So no bike instead we bought her a dodge diesel 4x4. I think it was the smart decision. Even car pooling she puts about 30,000 miles a year on her truck and we take my truck every where. Hers is just for going to work really. I only put about 10,000 miles a year on my truck and that includes a 2,000 mile round trip to disney.

Hello old friends. It's been awhile but I still "lurk" from time to time. We sold the Puma last year and I sold the F-250 last month. It makes the Fort seem that much further away than usual. We hope to get back into the camping game next year with an all new rig. We'll have to wait and see.
Anyway, I thought I'd bring this thread back up with pics of our upgraded cart. It now has a 6" lift with 12" wheels and tires. We also replaced the electric motor with a stronger one. It required no wiring upgrades but will still do 22 mph according to the GPS.
Anybody recognize this cart?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/lawnspecialties/GolfCart005.jpg
It's the cart in the original posting of this thread. Only it's sitting in the backyard instead of in front of the Fort. Donnie bought the original wheels and tires and we had to replace the motor since the original went bad. The boys are growing as fast as the cart, too.
Anyway, we went to Disney twice last year and stayed at the Contemporary and at Port Orleans French Quarter. We've vowed not to return until we have another camper and staying at the Fort. It just isn't the same.

I haven't replaced it yet. I had two F-250s. Both were in my company name and I just didn't drive it anymore. When I sold it July 8th, I had logged just over 2,000 miles since January 1st. My other F-250 is strictly a work truck. It's a 2004 XL with a service body and the 5.4L. I drive it almost all the time since I'm pretty much working all the time.
From what I've read, that Scorpion engine is going to be amazing. A 6.7L putting out 390 hp with over 700 ft.lbs. of torque. Wow. My only concern is the "first year bugs". We all know how the 2003 6.0Ls were. About half were great, half were miserable. Now Ford's designing their own engine with massive numbers. I hope it works out great but the first year makes me a little nervous.

Jamie I'm still using the tires and rims. The tires are fixing to have to be replaced though. I have a front end problem that chewed them up pretty bad. Tungpo and I (actually Tungpo did all the work) took the front end apart Friday looking for the problem. It started with the passenger front turning in a little. Everytime you turn the tie rod end out and fix it, it turns right back in. Everything is tight and we didn't see anything that would cause this. It's a 2005 Precedent, anybody got any ideas what would do this?

Are the treads stripped on the tie rod or adjustment sleeve. I have seen that before. I have seen it on Brand new cars too where the factory missed threading the inside of the adjustment sleeve.

The threads are good and Ron locked the tie rod ends down with the locker nut. I forgot to mention, it's become undrivable. When we took it for a test drive the tire turned in and almost slung Ron out of the cart. Until the problem is resolved and I put a few miles on it I probably won't even carray a passenger. It's got to be the weirdest thing you've ever seen. If you overcompensate and turn it out too much it stays that way. Not sure where to go next. We changed the front leaf spring and all the bushings. There's not much else up there that could cause it.

Even the non lifted Precedents wear bushings out bad. I'm not sure where to go from here. The lift is a Jakes. Has he heard anything that can be done to solve problems on them?

Never heard that about the batteries being so low they won't charge. Maybe the batteries have gone bad but I'm no expert.
I'd check my water levels and all my connections. Then try charging. If they still don't charge, I'd have each one tested.

Allowing a battery system to become excessively discharged for extended periods will almost always result in permanent irreversible damage to the batteries, which eventually results in costly battery replacement.
DO NOT ADD WATER TO A DISCHARGED BATTERY and NEVER OVER-FILL A BATTERY. Water should only be added to a battery when the battery is at or near full charge.

The abtteries are Trojans and about 4 years oldIf the batteries get too low, yes, the charger will not turn on. This has happen to me so I bought an automatic 12volt charger and charged just two batteries at a time. ( I have a 36 volt system, so this only works for that volt system ) Disconnect the positive cable from the first battery and the negative from the last. Take the connecting cable between the batteries off so only two batteries are connected together ( 12 volts ). As long as the batteries were never frozen, charge them at 10 amps until the charger says full then move to the next two and repeat until all six are charged. Then your automatic golf cart charger should work again.

Ya know....looking at the cart without the rear body on it....I really LIKE the way the rear tires have the fenders like that......hmmmmmm.....Im getting ideas....and thats never a good thing.
Anyway.....I replaced my batteries and in the process, somehow messed up my voltage reducer. I wired my lights to 2 batteries so there are running on 16volts instead of 12volts...wow, are they BRIGHT!!! It will probably cause my bulbs to burn out quicker, but I think it would be fine the way it is for a while....I need to look on ebay for a cheap reducer, though...I guess I'll go ahead and rig my speaker amp to it as well while Im at it, that extra little 12v battery is a pain to keep charged. I finally got the diamond plate peddles in and put them on as well. Im so ready for a camping trip!!!!!

Just to set all you folks straight...it is burnt metallic orange pearl...;):cool2:
It has too much red in it to be sissy UT(ennessee) orange and not enough brown in it to be UT(exas) orange. It is the perfect Auburn orange and it took three weeks of my temper to have them mix it correctly. My last cart was the unfortunate sissy UT orange and I was not going to let it happen again....
It is looking very sweet out in the sun. Pictures unfortunately do not do it justice. The top (which I do not have pictured yet) looks like navy colored glass.

As you can see in the background, Pete's old body is there. If there is anyone interested, he has it listed on Craigslist on the Treasure Coast, FL section under RV's. If you know a Gator type person who is in need, it needs to leave my garage!;)

ok, we had to stop because the finale of Lost is coming on and my work partner quit on me...so...we covered the new bessie up again but before we did, we took some more pictures of our progress...we are getting there...
the neighbors were laughing at us because both Chris and I were jumping up and down that we have the lights working again and the reverse switch is back on again...(I think it was the dancing personally, lol)
muskey mickey in orange is now on the windshield

seats are on, most of the wiring (with the exception of the stereo) is done, and we are waiting on the last coat of paint and clear on the underside of the roof, which should be done for wednesday installation (we have plenty to do until then)

we ended up replacing a lot of the bolts, just as a safety precaution and because we changed the body...I am not one for having things come off during flight;)

Sorry, we have been frantically trying to get the cart done after work and things kept getting in the way. We didn't get time to put the stereo back on before its first trip camping, but it can't be done soon. Everything else is working great! We got the roof on and the navy metallic with the double coat of clear is finally dry! Soooo.....here are the before and after pictures:

I have one more decal to put on, but I will wait and post it when we get the stereo put back in. We have a nickname for our old cart
and we decided to put her new name on the cart in a small out-of-the-way place.

The "Gator turned Auburn" cart looks AUsome!! (Sorry, Pete) I have seen it in person!
On a side note, the bearing on the front passenger wheel of the AUburn Cart blew out yesterday morning, and Kenny from Kenny's Cart Rentals brought new bearings over to the Fort when he was delivering a cart for someone else. Kenny even had his mechanic talk to Chris to tell him what to do to fix it. He only charged Chris the cost of the part!! Anyone who does not have their own cart to bring to the Fort, GO THRU KENNY'S CART RENTALS! The guy is a genuine prince!!

I even tried to give Kenny extra cash for helping us so quickly and he kept saying that he will help any and all Disbders and was not interested in marking up the parts. I owe this man big time. And no, Donnie, this was a typical worn out bearing. Don't go posting stuff about how I should have never sold old bessie. Leave Pete alone or I will sick Deb on you! Lol

I need ideas for a cart. My Disney-hating DH just told me this past weekend that he wants to take me to Fort Wilderness camping. :faint: When I said that I wanted to rent a cart while we're there, he informed me that he would like to BUY a cart and fix it up so we can bring it with us. (there's no smilie for dropping dead...)

O it's not ours. We just took the picture when we were there.
These are not mine either but some other nice carts.
The Green one in the Garage is ours in the early conversion stages. The back area will be two bench seats for the kids facing each other.

Wow now that is a lift. Thanks for posting the picture.
Made some progress today on the cart. I'm in the process of converting the rear cargo box into 2 bench seats facing eachother for 4 kids to ride back there.

don't know if you are still looking or not. We got ours at Jo Ann fabrics. look in newspaper or sign up on line to get 40% off coupons.
Now we have to find the time to actually do it.
