can ANYONE help me fix these 2 pictures??

DH took these & I WISH he would have taken MORE since these are so bad, but he didnt!!

They are out of focus (blurry). They cannot be fixed and look right. Sorry.

They look like they were taken handheld at a slow shutter speed or the person was shaking when the photos were taken. One of the other causes of this blurring is moving the camera before the image is recorded.

Unfortunately there is no fix for this type of image.

it was with a canon digital camera...not sure if DH was moving or it was because the 2 people in the pic were....its a MAJOR bummer...its such a GREAT pic of my DD & my dad!!

I did the best I could with Picassa, hope it helped. The color -- especially of the man's shirt -- is a little off from the originals and I'll be glad to tinker some more and try to get it right if you want.

Look at the non moving objects, like the building, porch railings, etc. there is blur in those objects. The problem with these shots is camera shake. (moving the camera while it is taking the picture)

You can also see that there is more blur left-right than up-down.

i like the idea of doing a texture or some effect to the picture...it seems to "hide" the blur

In DH's defense, those were taken at 1/8 and 1/10 shutter speeds. That is pretty slow to hand hold a camera without getting blur. I am guessing that the camera was on the program or auto mode, but I'm not sure.

yep...im sure it was on auto...it was a canon digital..id have to get the model when i get home...im joking, he can take pics..cause otherwise i wouldnt be in any..lol

It stinks cause when we bought it we tested it out on DD & had her spin around & take pics & it looked GREAT...but of course...these 2 pics seemed to get the "short" end of the stick...lol

i guess i will have to make do with what i got & REALLY invest in a nicer camera & camera lessons...lol

You don't need a different camera, you just need to learn how to use yours better. Not only was the shutter speed too slow to hand hold, it was too slow to stop any motion of the people in the photograph. There are ways to compensate - increase the ISO (can you set your camera's ISO to auto so that it automatically adjusts based on the light levels and other factors?), change the aperture, use flash, etc. See if your local community center is offering classes. Having a camera doesn't mean a person can take good photos, knowing how to use the camera increases the chances that a person will get good photos:)

FWIW, the shadow you see behind their heads it due to using the flash and having the camera turned vertically. With a P&S (or any camera where you are using on-camera flash), you are best off shooting horizontally and then cropping to vertical if that is what you want. It will minimize the harsh shadows behind your subject.

I do not think it is a shadow. If the shooter was right handed and he rotated the camera counterclockwise to vertical the shadow would be on the right side of the subject. Due to the flash rotating from top to left. But it may have been rotated clockwise...

I think what looks like a shadow is motion blur.

Not to highjack the thread, but I've always wondered how do you see the data on other people's pictures? I don't even know how do it on my own pictures once they've been deleted from my camera.

It depends on what you use for a computer. I use a regular old PC with Windows XP. For that, I just uploaded Opanda IExif. Just google "Opanda Exif" and it should bring you to their site. When you install that program, all you have to do is right click on a photo and go down to "View EXIF Information" and it tells you what camera, settings, etc were used for that picture. Sometimes it doesn't have information due to where the picture is hosted (flickr and smugmug may strip that information, not real sure) but usually if someone has their photos on photobucket or something, it will show you the info.

This will work for your pics as well, but you can also (again in XP not sure about the other systems) right click a photo of yours and go down to properties, click on the Summary tab, then click Advanced. It should tell you the info that way.

Here is my second attempt at the second image. My apologies to the OP for my first attempts at both images. After I saw them posted, I was a little embarassed by them. Hopefully the second attempts are closer to what you wanted.

I only worked with the first picture but here's the original and my try!

I used Photoshop Elements 5 (Unsharp Mask) then Panos free "Sharpen" and finally, the NoiseWare plug-in. I would also do some "erase" work with the shadows if desired.
