Hey everyone....since Sandra has motivated me to do this once again, I thought it would be great to start a thread to keep one another motivated in weight loss. Post your goals, your motivation, your plan of action, your progress, and anything else to keep the thread alive!
Here is my goals:
I want to lose 36lbs...most of that by the middle of May. I also want to run a half marathon in September, and train heavily for it over the next couple of months. In addition, it is important for me to learn to eat properly and to learn how to curb my cravings (suggestions???).
Good luck everyone....

Hi. This is Darlene from Paris, Ontario. I will be the second person to join, being on this board will hopfully keep me motivated. I would LOVE:love: to lose 50lb by March 09 for our trip to Disney, but I want to start small. I have my father's 80th at the end of March so that for my first goal. To be under 200 =11lbs to go.Over all I hope this will cure all my knee/back/hip problems.
P.S should we all find each other on facebook if yous are on it, to help motivate? Or is it a bad idea?

A friend and I have a weight loss challenge going but we just started it. Both of our goals is to go down 2 sizes. I'm not sure how to go about it though. I can't join a gym or curves because I don't have a sitter so I will walk or play Dance Dance Revolution ;) The snacking though is what gets me. There isn't much to do around here so the boredom sets in!

Hi Disney Ontario and Momto4boys! Welcome!
I too have a snacking problem. One thing I did (don't know if it would work for moms!) was to get rid of ALL the food in the house that I snack on that is bad for me. If my BF wanted it around, he has to keep it in his car. I go grocery shopping on a full tummy so that I'm not tempted to buy - I also try to go in with blinders since they tend to have bad food for sale all around the stores!
The other thing I did was I got the book "GI diet" and it really helped to put eating right into perspective....do I follow it to a T? No, but, it has allowed me to look at food differently, and not see food, eat food.

You can Facebook me at Sandra Glover Clarke
I posted a 2004 picture of myself....I was about 150-160lbs in that pic.
My goal is to bounce around the 130lbs for the rest of my life.
Currently I am 214lbs. from 232lbs at Christmas.
My diet plan is daily cardio on my treadmill...2-5km depending on time and energy. I've been eating very well....lots of fruits & veggies, about 1200-1400 total calories per day. I try to eat my carbs in the morning, protein at lunch and fruits & veggies all day. I'm trying to eat 6 smaller meals ending with a cup of blueberries around 8pm. That satisfies my sweet tooth in the evening.
I can't wait to be skinny for my next Disney trip! Sandra

After returning from GWL and fearing I gained a little weight during the trip....I did 5km on the treadmill before getting on the scale.
YIPPEE! I didn't gain ANYTHING! I've been losing 2 pounds every 4-7 days, so I should be down to 212 around Friday.

Hello everyone ... May I please join your little group :yay: I need to lose over a hundred pounds, but my goal is to be down 20 to 30 by my August cruise. I also want to be able to walk into the mall and buy off the rack at a store other than Pennington's.
I joined a Gym two weeks ago and I've been 3 times already. Tonight I have my first visit with a personal trainer. It is time to get serious. I'm 48 years old, and I want to live long enough to take my grandchildren to Disneyworld.
This thread is a great idea. It is nice to have help from people who will encourage you and not judge you. I know my family means well, but hey, I know I need to lose weight. I don't need their constant nudges.
Thanks for listening and I look forward to our journey together.

I have twenty pounds to go and my goal is by June I'll meet that challenge.
I love Walk Away the Pounds by Leslie Sansone and her boxed set is at Cost Co. I've used her dvds (first I borrowed her original book from the library which came with a dvd inside the book)since March 2005 and they always keep me in shape even when I have a bit to lose.
Thanks for the OP!!!

To those who have cravings for snacks etc. this is what I do; every time I have a craving for something that I should not be eating, I drink one full bottle of water. This way I end up drinking about 8 bottles of water per day.Truthfully, I still sometimes give in the craving, but since I am pretty full from the water, I wil consume much less of the sweet, chocolate etc.
Weekly, the kids and I rent exercise DVDs from the library and try out 2-3 per week. I also walk instead of drive at every opportunity. I purposely park a few blocks from where I am going most of the time. I also walk the dog about 4 kms each day. So for me, staying fit is not really about a set fitness schd. Just incorporating the above into my regular routine.
I don't really want to lose much weight, but would really love to tone up a bunch before Dec 2008 vacation. I bought a really cute bathing suit in Florida last month and would love to wear it Dec 2008, but at this point, it will not happen.

Hi ...I'm back from the gym... and I'm sure I"m going to hurt a little tomorrow. The trainer was really nice and encouraging. She said my goal of 30 pounds by August. Then another 20 by December. I haven't officially weighed myself, but I know roughly what I weigh. Next visit is Thursday. Wish me luck.
Riu Girl... Sugar free gum helps as well. Nothing tastes as good when you have a mouthful of peppermint :rotfl:
SandyC ... I just realized I aged myself. I'm so used to saying I'm 48, because that is the age I will be on my next cruise. I'm actually 47 now. Me bad! :rotfl2:

Hi Canadian Dis Friends. HELP ME- My biggest worry besides my weight is my upper arms. I need simple exercises to help tone them. I have sooo many cute Disney new tee shirts I would love to wear but they are all too small in the arms.

Hi Darlene ... I have the same problem. I'll let you know if my trainer gives me any tips.
Has anyone looked into signing up for the Biggest Loser Club. I'm thinking of checking it out. I love the fact that they give you a weekly menu, plus a shopping list. I'm still on the fence though. I thought of Nutrisystem. I tried it 14 years ago and it worked wonders. I got to my goal, but gained it all back and then some, mind you I quit smoking two years after losing the weight, so that aided in the weight gain. Only problem with Nutrisystem is the expense.

I am not ready yet to commit to this as when I get swamped with homework I am sure I will fall off the wagon.
I am a single, 39 yr old mom!!! :scared1: I don't like saying that. :rotfl: Anyways, I currently weigh about 170 (my scale is a little off, and I am too scared to weigh at the dr's).
Last April I weighed 150 (I think) and by my August trip on the 17th I weighed 130. :cool1: I still had at least another 10-15 lbs to go. Obviously I went in the OTHER direction.
But what worked for me is I ate MORE often. I have a bad habit of not eating till lunch which is very small and a big dinner. AND DID I SAY I LOVE CHIPS??
So I ate breakfast, a few scrambled eggs, or a piece of fruit or whole wheat toast with peanut butter. I also got hooked on homemade smoothies with frozen strawberries, banana and yogurt and crushed ice. I hate yogurt but this was good.
I loosely followed weight watchers there is a great site to get info on. But more importantly I ate 6 times a day. At first all this food I was eating was making me starving all the time. :confused3 I guess my metabolism starting finally. lol. A few almonds or fruit for afternoon snack and dinner of chicken or fish and small potatoe and or salad and or lotsa veggies...mmm ... asparagus.. ha ha
Anyway it worked, I did not really excercise as I usually walked around work for 10 hours a day 3 or 4 days a week but my body was used to this.
As for my chip craving...I substituted smart pop popcorn the small bags, and or bought the little mini packs of dorito snacks, for 100 calories per bag. That did me...:rotfl: Got off the huge bag of chips.
And every other weekend when I worked Saturdays was my treat day and I either had a bagel or a breakfast sandwich from Timmie's with my coffee. I knew if I could have my bagel or my sandwich I could wait for another week to get it.
Sorry if this was long but not trying to give anyone advice since you are all doing better than I at the moment. More just to motivate myself.
I will check back and let you know if I am off the junk food. Next step cut down the coffee/and or/ the sugar in the coffee. That I'm sure right now is the biggest problem for me.
Take care guys I will let you know how it goes and you guys are motivating me :dance3:
And I won't tell you what I had for dinner on the way home after 8:30 after getting my haircut.
My goal is eventually lose the 20 I already lost plus another 30...:scared1:

I would love to join in with my fellow Canadian DISers on the journey of weight loss and life style change! I love the DIS so this will be a great place to visit, chat and share with one another.
I have lost about 60 odd pounds since last summer. I was doing very well for awhile then Christmas came, with our Disney trip shortly there after. I had wanted to try the Dining Plan so we could check out places we might never get to, like AKL's Boma. So, I don't regret doing the dining plan, but I do need to get myself back on track. I have dusted off the treadmill (just yesterday actually) and revised the grocery list. I am ready!! Well, I just need to get over this blasted bronchitis and then I will be in fighting for.
So, I look forward to this long and worthwhile relationship we will all have!! Good luck everyone!

I'm onboard too! I just joined the Biggest Loser Club a few weeks ago and have very slowly taken a few lbs. off but I need support and that's harder to find. Hopefully my fellow DISers will be just what I need.
I've just completed 6 rounds of chemo after ovarian cancer was found during surgery (last July). Since then I've gained 30 lbs.!!!!! and I was already way overweight, just what I needed. I start back to work next week after being away for 7 months and I'm hoping some routine in my life will help with the weight loss. Haven't started exercising yet but will start walking and will be back at Curves sooner than later.
I have about 95 lbs. to lose and I'll be heading off on a cruise and to WDW in only 80 sleeps! I would like to lose a good chunk of weight before I leave, I don't want to have to buy all new clothes!
Good luck to us all.........I'm off to down some water.

I'm in too - I started after Christmas cutting down portion sizes, drinking more water and getting more active but the weight just doesn't seem to want to budge!
It's getting frustrating!
I'd like to loose about 60lbs/get down to a size 14/16 - I did it a few years ago so hopefully I can do it again and make it stick this time!

Vent away! :thumbsup2 That's what we're here for, to support each other!
I agree about eating small meals throughout the day. One of my bgf's trained to run a mini triathalon when she turned 40 and that motivated me. Her nutritionist told her to eat within one hour of waking up, and to make sure it was a small serving of protein and to have cold water with it, to rev up for the day.
I'm really happy about joining this group :cloud9:

I joined LA Weight loss about 2 1/2 weeks ago. And the program for the first month is a killer!!! NO RED MEAT, PASTA, RICE, POTATOES!!! Whats left? ;)
But after the first week i was committed and only cheated once. ( I was sick and my MIL brought pasta & meat sauce for the family for supper- Gotta love her :goodvibes ) But i did eat only a small portion. Although i do have the option of having a Lean cuisine meals with pasta if they are under 300 calories.
I had done WW in the past, but wasn't success with it. It is a great program but i was not successful on it.
I need to lose 40pds and have lost 6 pds in 2 1/2 weeks. the hardest part for me is getting enough water and more veggies. So those are my biggest goal to increase these.
I wish all of us the best of luck on our journey! :cloud9:

You are all awesome! I love in the inspiration on these boards! THANKS!
I lost 4.5 inches in about three weeks. But I'm pretty big so I'll lose inches and pounds fairly quickly at first, then level off. I've done this before and I know my bod.
I changed my Facebook picture. See Sandra Glover Clarke....the picture is from April 2001....it's Pooh, ds15months & myself at 136lbs. That's after losing about 80lbs. I toned my arms with simple exercises and 5lb hand weights.
* 8 bicep curls
* 8 lateral delt lifts
* 8 anterior delt lifts
* 8 posterior delt lefts
* 16 tricep kick backs
Then start again.....do the above 3 time every other day. You will have awesome arms in about one month. Drink water too....that helps with the elasticity in the skin.
I used to teach this stuff.....I'm large but I know my fitness!
Blessings, Sandra

Good morning everyone!
Happy to see so many join the group!!!
I'm tempted to join facebook again just for this support (I cancelled my account a few months ago!).
I recently bought the book for the South Beach Diet and it's pretty much the same as LA weight loss...The first 2 weeks are pretty much a food detox. I follow more closely the GI diet or diabetic diet type of recipes. I first started weight loss in 2006 with a stringent routine and I lost so much weight, but I truly believe that if you just increase your water absorption, increase your vegetable consumption, decrease your red meat and alcohol consumption, eat foods low in fat and low in sugar, and try to eat as much fresh stuff and not premade stuff, you can do it. I personally am trying to cut out cheese and high fat dairy products too (I'm come from a french and italian family - this is NOT an easy feat!). I snack between meals, usually a piece of fruit, almonds, or yoguart. I'm not a terrible eater to begin with, I just fell off the wagon a bit and got lazy.
Today, I am going to go for a run on the treadmill - started my marathon training and am looking forward to the challenge. I meet with my trainer tomorrow - last time I saw him, I couldn't walk for 2 days, so hopefully he doesn't hurt me too badly this time. I meet with him 3x/week right now just until I feel that I am comfortable with me being able to do it independently without someone pushing me! I am trying to keep a food diary too....it helps me to see where my snacking comes into play!
Anyone know a good low fat cookie recipe? How about a trail mix type of recipe? If I have something like that to snack on, I know it will help!

It is so nice to see all the love and support here, like SandraC mentioned! I think that having good support is half the battle for many people. I look forward to checking in here and seeing how well everyone is doing. And by that I don't just mean weight loss. Our success can be measured in other ways, like completing a certain type of exercise, trying a new low fat food we thought we would hate ( like rice cakes :scared1: ) or just drinking all the water we should.
Good luck everyone!

I agree Suz ... It is nice to have a support group of people who understand our struggles and won't overly judge us. To have a group that can offer advice and encouragement is precious. I know family and friends mean well, but when they tell me to lose weight, I just feeling like telling them that I know I need to lose weight and I don't need your reminders. I have one friend who is superfit, and everytime we get together, all she does is talk about how she has to exercise and eat healthy. She probably doesn't even realise how this bothers me. I need the pat on the back that I lost 2 pounds, not the reminder that I have 98 more to go!

Hi Pauline ... welcome aboard... I have to lose over a hundred pounds, so my task is a little daunting. I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and signed up with a trainer. I have to stick with it this time. I told my trainer is that my goal is to see my grandchildren get married. Considering my daughter is 17 and doesn't even have a boyfriend now, so I'm waiting at least 20 years. My doctor said that if I don't do something soon, my health is going to suffer. I think she gave me a real wakeup call. So I have the exercise covered. Regarding diet, I'm trying to cut back for now. Eating more salads and less eating fast food. Anyway ... reading this back it sounds depressing... So here is too a better tomorrow. Raise that bottle of water everyone!

Okay, here I am too. I need all the help I can get. I am at the point of really HATING the way I look. I am shaped like a apple. I feel so sorry for my DH. I was a size 8 (125 lbs) and totally toned when we started dating. I felt good about myself back then. Not any more......I'm now a size 18-20 (213 lbs). I no longer wear make up, and never wear skirts or dresses anymore. I need to get with it. I joined Curves 4 weeks ago and WW on the weekend. We are going to our first Disney cruise next month for DH 65th birthday, and I would like to at least feel good about myself. In total, I would like to lose 50-60 lbs. That would take me down to a size 12 I think that is reasonable for my age (58). I would loooooove to join this group for the extra support. I need it all.

Cathy [retiredkid], I'm 214lbs and I wear dresses all the time. I don't let my "voluptuous" body stop me from "pretty". Think of yourself as thin and gorgeous now, because you ARE! Lose the weight because it's healthy to do so. Being thinner is just a bonus to a healthier lifestyle.
You are all awesome! Stay healthy! Blessings & Love, Sandra

Okay guys I am along for the ride too!! I would LOVE to loose about 70 lbs  (did I say 70...wow that sounds bad!!LOL) I am 29, and a SAHM to DD4. I do not get the chance to get to a gym, but I will be walking, a lot, and hopefully more once our wonderful WInnipeg weather warms up!!
I too had been a thinner version of myself when I met dh. Then with the comfort of the relationship, quitting smoking and having DD, I seemed to have poofed out!! I am not happy at all like this. My knees are killing me, (I have runners knee)& I just want to be happy when I look at pics of the family together!! I don't want to be the picture taker anymore, I want to be on the other side of the lens!!!
Dh is with me this time (Thank GOD!!). He has a lot of weight to loose as well. He wasn't very serious about it until last night, he suffers with apnea, and he woke up and was unable to breath for about 30 seconds. It was terrifying for him and me, just to watch him gasping for air!! His family has a long history of heart problems, his mom and dad had heart attacks before they were 50.
I am hoping that this will be life changing for both of us, and for DD, she needs a good example set for her!! You can facebook me too, I am Tiffany Newton. Although I am not on there too much...but still around a bit!!

Wow, sounds like we have some wonderful and committed people on board! I agree with SandraC about making yourself feel pretty no matter what your weight or size is. Also, as the weight starts to come off everyone will start to see the difference. So, that is the time to treat yourself to keep the motivation going. Even if you just buy a new lipstick or get a manicure. These things are a lift and think of it as a testament to your hard work.
Tiff, on a side note, does your husband use a CPAP machine for his sleep apnea? My DH has sleep apnea and has been using the CPAP machine for several years. It has been a life saver, literally and is mostly covered by OHIP. If your DH does not have this already he should think about a visit to the family doctor.
Good luck, Suz

Hey everyone....just checking in and welcome to everyone new! This board has always been a world of help to me in more ways than planning a Disney trip and I cannot wait to get the support from everyone for my weight loss journey!
I met with my trainer today and he was brutal! He told me that's nothing compared to what I'm getting on Saturday - although he swears that he's breaking me in gently! I will see what happens tomorrow. I have to run tomorrow and since I'm tired right now, and not looking forward to it!
Today, I hung the bikini I want to wear this year on the wall in my bedroom (kind of like that yoguart commercial!). Don't know if it will work, but it's there for me to see every morning!
Off topic - today, we bought a new car! I'm 29, and have only owned 2 cars my whole life...the one I have now I've owned for 11 years and it has 287,000km on it - I bought it new! It's going to be hard to give it up!
Anyways, tomorrows another day, another challenge. I wish you all well!

Congrats on the new car!! That is always soooo exciting!! And I just wanted to thank you all once again for being sooo supportive....right now I have about half an hour before I have to go and pick up DD from Pre School. Hi again. Just wandering how your week has went with exercise and weight loss. I shoveled the driveway/frontstairs yesterday and started slowly on my stationary floor peddles. I don't think I eat enough food and drink enough water, they need a change, but my weight went from 211.5 to 209lbs. So I must be doing something right.
Just thinking of all my dis friends keep me going, even though my knees/legs ache today.
I am dreaming of all my too small clothes fitting me SOON.

That's the problem with trainers....they hurt you for the first 2 weeks and then things get a little easier (plus you start to see really good results!).
My trainer and myself have started to the weigh ins and measurements - we do them on Saturdays. I get to find out what damage I've done to my body tomorrow morning.

Thanks ... I go again tonight.. We did weight last night and tonight is measurements. I signed up for the introductory 12 1/2 hour sessions at Good Life for now. After this is done, the price jumps as you now pay for 1 hour sessions. I can't wait (:scared1:) for the one hour sessions. My trainer, Heidi, said that when it stops hurting, she is going to increase the weights  . I did it to myself, as I told her that although I would love her to be a Bob, I really need a Jillian right now! :lmao:

I have a male trainer named TJ who's really cute (much to my BF's dismay) but he works me - I think I try harder for him because I want to impress him :rolleyes1 But, he does a good job and I trust him. As long as he fulfills his role as my torturer, I will fullfill my role as the torturee (meaning, I'll eat right and do the cardio that I promised him I would do!). I signed up for 50 1 hour sessions to work out 3x/week with him. It will last me until about May. After that, I may sign up for more, but probably for only 1x/week. We'll see what happens.

I'd like to try indoor and outdoor rock climbing when I'm smaller.
I officially lost 20lbs in 6 weeks! YIPPEE!

 Congratulations Sandra...I'm really nervous about my weigh in and measurements tomorrow. I have been working really hard but it always seems like I go backward for the first couple of weeks and then go down from there - I think it's because I drink and retain so much water for the first couple of weeks...then my body finally figures out what to do with it!

That's a great story! Thanks for posting....I would love to see all of us develop a weight loss journey like that.
So, as per her article, why do we eat the way we do? Why do we have to eat that donut, or that pizza? Why can't we make the choices that we know will benefit us in the future, not hurt us in the long run? I obviously can't answer for everyone, but I know alot of the reasons why I do it is because of social situations. When I am at home, I'm fine (unless there is a lot of bad food around! which is why I won't buy it), but when I'm with others, and there is food around that is terrible for me and my hips, I always give in, especially when someone is like "it's only 1", or my favorite, "all things in moderation". I've come to the conclusion that I have an addiction to food - I have to eat what I see. I don't know why, I just have to. And me personally, I cannot have just "1". I have to have 2, than 5. I just don't know how to say no and I just don't know when to stop. Being a nurse, especially in peds, is the worst at times. We get SO many thank yous (not complaining BTW :thumbsup2 )from parents that consist of Tim Hortons donuts, a box of chocolates, pizza, cookies, cakes, squares, etc. The break room is ALWAYS filled with something. How do you go in there and have people telling you how fantastic something is and not want to try it??? I wish I knew a way to curb those cravings a work - it's the worst place at times. Anyways, those are my thoughts of the day. The trainer is coming over in a bit to hurt me and then I have to go for a run.
Goals for the next week:
1) keep up program
2) Weight loss of 1.5 lbs
3) keeping a food and work-out diary (this is a HUGE problem for me!)
Have a great day everyone!

It really is going to be hard training for the marathon....that's a very long distance, but I figured that you get to stop and interact with the characters and you get to take photos while your running the race, and you get to run through all the parks in the morning - I really am excited but really scared at the same time at the time I just dedicated for myself to do this! The other thing that scares me is if I complete it, I know I'll get lazy right afterwards, so I will have to continue to sign up for all of these races and hopefully continue on with my healthy lifestyle!
This morning, I am going to go on the treadmill and run (I cannot wait for the snow to melt so I can run outside!!!). Last night I just read this article in People magazine (I think it was a January issue) about 8 people who last a combined total of 1700 lbs! One guy went from 505 lbs to 207 lbs, and is now a black belt karate teacher! That was totally inspirational! Anyways, have a great morning everyone! The first week is done - and I already feel better and more energetic than I did a week ago! Keep up the good work!

Try Celeb from Presidents Choice. :)
I would like to join your thread to help me loose more weight. We leave for DW on march 06th and so far all I lost was 6.5 pounds. My initial goal was to loose 20 pounds from Jan 01st to March 06th to sit around 229 pound mark. Is there still time for me to get there or is this not a realistic goal? I have to admit it did take me a while to get serious with this one. Last year I was 255 pounds on Jan 01st and left for DW having lost 20 pounds to sit around 235.
I would be just as happy at 235 or less before our trip but the less the merrier.
Can I get any suggestions. I also intend to post as often as I can to keep the motivation up.
P.S. Thanks everyone for their posts of advice, encouragement and support.

If its for something hot, ...veggies baked potato, popcorn...I use the becel spray. not bad at all.
for baking, believe it or not, you can substitute applesauce or (gerber) prunes.
i will try to find the website.

Thanks for that, I will definately use that in the future - what about for something like a supper recipe? For example, I just made a hammerhead trout recipe that called for 3 tbsp butter to be added at the end of simmering. I didn't add it at all and it still tasted great, but was wondering if there was any sort of substitute - would that becel spray work?
By the way - if you like this fish, the recipe I made was SO good (and easy)...I will share it if anyone is interested!

Hi again. Ok, what do all yous do when your sick/achy with a cold? While trying to diet, I just NEED comforting food. It is VERY cold outside and I had to go to the grocery store. Brrrrr.
Exactly what Sandray said! Try a low sodium soup (if you have some), or a veggie soup - both good and low in fat! Also, make sure you still eat and intake lots of fluids! Hot tea is good (don't drink coffee - this is a diuretic and will actually draw fluid out of your body!). Whenever I'm sick, I need ice cream. I actually started getting frozen yoguart or sorbet...there are so many good flavours out there (Haagen Daz has this raspberry sorbet that is to DIE for!). If I can't stomach that, I try a fruit smoothie.
But, first and foremost....get your rest. This is the best thing you can do for your body. With any virus, it needs to make it's way out of your body naturally and rest is the best thing your body needs to fight it out.
As for comfort food....I love the fruit and veggie bars...LOVE them. I let myself have one a day as one of my snacks. I also get rice crackers. There are these ones with sea salt and vinegar and they are SO good and taste just as good if not better than salt and vinegar chips (my favorite). Popcorn freshly popped with raisons and almonds is good too. I made a homemade fat free ranch dip and it works for many things (baked potato chips, veggies, etc). Pretzels work too. I love cereal, so when I have a craving for something crunchy, this is another thing that works for me. Smoothies are great too! Get some frozen fruit from the grocery store, and some fat free yoguart (source is really good), put these in the blender with a little bit of skim milk and blend - yummy! You can also put some protein powder in there if you want the extra protein!
Hope you feel better soon! :woohoo:

No - I don't know anybody that's crazy enough to do that with me! But I should have a "team name" - could be something like "1 woman army" or something like that. My fiance will be there, but he's not a runner, so it will be just me running. He's going to be at the finish line waiting for me! I've always wanted to do one of these - I've been a runner on and off for about 5 years, so nows time to get serious and put in the necessary hours to do it. I told my fiance if I completed this is a good enough time, it will be the Chicago or Boston Marathons (well, depends how I like this one!). Anyways, thanks everyone for the kind words....I now have to get ready for my workout!

Hi all ... Time for my check in ... Met with Heidi the torturer :worship: ... Just kidding .. she is really good. I signed up for a 12 session introductory special. This was visit 5 and we talked about nutrition. My goals are increase my daily veggie/fruit consumption, watch my portion size, no eating 3 hours before bed and eat 6 small meals instead of 3 big ones. Today we also worked my abs and triceps. I think I may be in for some pain in the morning.
So, we didn't weigh in officially today, but the scales in the change room looked promising. Okay ... I'm going to be brave here and tell you all my deepest darkest secret. My current weight is 265 :scared1:. My goal is 145 - 150. That is a very scary 115 pounds to go. I can do it. I have to this time. My mom had a stroke last year, and we both suffer from the same blood disorder. My dad had a heart condition, and we both suffer from the same weight disposition. The moral is if I lose the weight, I lessen my risk and live a longer life. I want to live to see my grandkids get married. My daughter is 17 and single at the moment, so that means I need another 20 years (better not be sooner dear daughter :rotfl2: )
So, Heidi, the torturer, had me set small goals.
be down 10 to 15 pounds by the end of the 12 sessions
be down 40 pounds by my August cruise
shop at the Bay or Sears, no more Penningtons or Additionelle
So wow ... I have admitted things in this post, that I very rarely say. Thanks for listening and being there for me. Take care all!

Thanks for being so brave and telling us your deepest darket secret! Weight loss is a journey...and one that will be the most satisfying in the end if you complete it! It's hard, no doubt, and the roller coaster ride will be a hard one, but when you complete it, it will have been the BEST thing you have ever been brave enough to do. Never look back, only forward, and keep telling yourself that you can do it!
I too have a torturer and he hurt me today in the worst way! But, I know that everything that he does is for the best for me, and I know that I will look and feel like a million bucks by the time he is done! I have faith in him and I trust him (which is a HUGE thing for me....). Anyways, I am proud of you and stick to it! I weighed myself today, and although I didn't see an actual change on the scale, I know my muscles are increasing in size, while my waist size is decreasing (or so I tell myself ;) ), so I know I am progressing.
Good job everyone and keep up the pace! Our journeys have only begun!
FYI - most people quit their journey within the first two weeks - don't give up yet! Stick it out another week and your chances of success will only increase daily! Think of your goals and accomplish them!

Okay, now that I've -finally- recovered enough from my car accident to get my doctor's 'Ok' to start going back to the gym again (it's been a very long four months!), I thought I might as well join the thread here. :)
I've actually managed to drop a few more pounds while I was recovering, which is better than I was expecting. I'm 26, and heart disease and high blood pressure and diabetes run in my family. Now for the really scary part...the numbers!
Height: 5'4"
Starting weight: 208 lbs
Weight at time of accident: 190 lbs
Current weight: 186 lbs
Goal weight: 140-145 lbs
I'm leaving for WDW in just over 2 weeks. I would have loved to be below 180 for the trip, but I know that isn't really realistic with the amount of time I have left! Ah well!

Yes, definately enjoy the meal, Cathy. I've been finding recently that part of my trick for losing weight is to actually EAT MORE! There, I said it!
Now, by eat more, I do mean my plate is fuller, BUT with things that are better for me. I'll still have meat with lunch and dinner, but I'll have a smaller portion of that, a small portion of potatoes or pasta, and a HUGE portion of veggies. I also try and have a salad along with it, as I find I get fuller, faster, but actually eat less.
I couldn't do just yoghurt and honey for lunch...!

Current weight - 171

Well, I'm back from my Valentines dinner. I was baaaaad, but I really enjoyed it and I WONT feel guilty about it.. I will just get back on track tomorrow. I had salad, beef tenderloin (the best I've ever had) roasted organic vegetables (Pattypan squash, asparagus, mushrooms, peppers and broccoli) The potatoes I gave to DH. But I only did that so that I could have creme carmel for desert. We also split 1/2 litre wine and owner brought out a complimentary after dinner drink.... frangelico and creme de menthe.
Boy, it was good.......but portions were reasonable. Not stuffed. So. Back to the grind tomorrow. Big Time. Weigh-in on Saturday>>

:welcome: Welcome aboard Charlene!
Glad you enjoyed the meal... Sounds delicious!
I agree with P&L ... My trainer said that if you eat consistently during the day, say every three hours, your body will think it is always full and not go in preservation mode. I have found this helped in the past!
Good luck everyone ... We all survived Valentine's Day and tomorrow is a brand new day!!
Take care!

I am at work and you wouldn't believe the amount of chocolate that is here! And believe it or not, I have not eaten a single Hershey Kiss or Bernard Calebaut chocolate!
We went out last night to a great little restaurant here in the city and it's great! I ate salmon with rice and veggies and a salad to start - very tasty! We drank some wine and enjoyed the night. Not the most terrible thing I could have eaten, and I drank plenty of water with it....but at midnight, I got sick!   I got really sick over Christmas where I had to be hospitalized because of a virus I contracted (probably from the kiddies at work!) but, I was so scared that I got it again...Thank goodness I woke up this morning and felt normal. Must have been something I ate!
OT: What did your significant other do for you for Valentines day??? I have, no word of a lie, the most unromantic person for a fiance, but every now and then he does something to let me know he loves me....Tonight, he brought me my favorite coffee from Second Cup - All I'll say is that it's very difficult to get into my job at night...But, somehow he did it and brought me the coffee! What a man!

Atta girl..stayin' away from those chocolates. Good for you. So glad you are feeling better and that it wasn't something worse. My DH told me he was going to buy me a Disney watch for Valentines day, but our friends told us last week that DCL sells watches specific to the cruise. So I'm getting my gift in three weeks.
And you know, if he brought you your favorite coffee and had to make an effort to get it to you...I think that's kinda special:goodvibes

Don't worry about those couple of days Sandra...It is Valentines day week, so expect to have some bad days! I did cave in to my BF when I got home and ate 3 Bernard Calebaut chocolates - and they were lovely! But, at least I didn't go crazy at work, and that's a big accomplishment for me! I usually don't say no at all, and saying no was huge for me!
I weighed myself this morning and have officially lost 2.5 lbs since I started and am super happy about that!

:flower3: We went to dinner and a movie. Dinner, East side mario's had the garden salad, bread and pasta with arribata (hot) sauce and loved it all! DH was the healthy one w/ the garden salad topped with grilled chicken. He is trying to lose too. Movies, Definitely Maybe, loved it! My daughter and I are going to see Definitely Maybe tonight. We would have gone last night, but thought their may have been too many couples, and us two single gals would have felt out of place :rotfl:
Glad everyone had a good time last night. I picked my daughter up from archery. It was the last class, and she had yet been able to pop the balloon (don't ask). Well last night was the last class and on her last arrow, she actually popped the balloon. The whole group heard her rather lout "YES". It was quite humourous to watch. I'm glad I got there early to pick her up!

Hello everyone!! I wanted to apologise for being away for most of this week!!! But I do have a good excuse...lol (I will get to it asap) Last weekend we bought an exersice bike for home, so now we have a Gazelle type machine, the bike and some weights. Anyhoo on to the reason why I have been gone....well DH was in the hospital....I guess he got his 'scare' to finally take the weight loss more seriously. (as some of you know he has an extensive family history with heart problems. I have been encouraging him to loose some weight for sometime now, so I am thankful that he is okay and has gotten an extra nudge to motivate him) He was walking upstairs at work, and when he got to the classroom he collapsed with chest pain and had difficulty breathing. The school called the ambulance and he was taken to the hospital. He is home now and taking it easy until they get the results back. hopefully by the 25th.
So now for my physical updates....I have been riding the bike for 30-45 mins a day (except the last couple because DH has been home). watching portions....my major fault, and snacks too close to bed, and too fatty....I am feeling a lot better already and have noticed a small change to my tummy....
Also I wanted to welcome all of the new people to the thread as well!! This is a great place!!! Glad to hear everyone is doing well and staying of track (can't count Valentines Day, right...LOL). Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Hi Tiff ... I'm so happy to hear that your husband is going to be okay. I remember going through that with my dad a few times. It is so scary when the ambulance arrives, especially during that period of not knowing what is happening, but I am glad to hear that he is home now and things are looking up. Be thankful he wasn't alone when it happened. I was talking at work to my boss about some new medication I am on. I know it is none of their business about my meds, but I am on Blood thinners for clotting problems. I wanted her to know in case anything happened to me at work and I was unconscience. The fact that I am on Blood Thinners is critical to an EMT in an emergency. She is going to bring it up with our Health and Safety committee to see if a voluntary database could be set up for this situation. We just had a women suffer a stroke at work last month, so you never know.
Anyhow, glad you are back with us. Good luck with the new bike. Take care!

It's icy and foggy here too. I still have a sinus infection and dry cough but it didn't stop me from lunching at RFC in Yorkdale and visiting the Disney Store. 60% off lots of stuff.....but nothing I needed. I almost bought a size 14 mini-jean skirt with Tink on it.....only $10.....as a goal outfit....but I don't really wear mini-jean skirts anymore....so I put it back.
I'm dreaming of Disney as I cough my head off.
I'm going to treadmill today too. Now that I'm back on the wagon, I'll grocery shop for fresh fruits and veggies later!

Well, today I decided to listen to my body and just take the day off of working out. I go every day, and today it just doesn't seem to have to momentum, so I guess it's a day off for me. I have been eating really good though and will continue to do so, so not really worried....everybody's body deserves a break now and then. I'm just worried about getting behind on the training schedule for the marathon!!! Oh well....I'll just have to be cognizant of the amount of days I relax compared to that of the traning schedule.

Today was the start of my "long" runs...meaning that I ran consecutively for long periods (today 20 minutes) to eventually build up that endurance so that I can run longer distances. By the end of next week, it will be 30 minutes straight.
I am going to Vegas next week though...any tips to stay healthy while travelling to the most unhealthy place in N. America? Thinking of bringing my work out stuff and working out in the hotel....but get this. After spending the money to stay at the MGM Grand, we have to pay $20/day to go in their gym...does that make ANY sense to you?

It's the same thing as Disney. I'll eat more at Disney than at home and come home my same pre-trip weight. The walking and swimming keeps the weight off. Sandra

Oh Sandra...I'm so proud of you!!! :grouphug: On a side note, I wear an 8 right now and am hoping to be down to a 6 comfortably by May, but when we were in Vegas, I bought a dress down there and had to buy a 10 - I was quite saddened, but like Sandra said, go figure!
Keep up the good work. I got on the treadmill this morning, then met with my trainer. He's getting a little more cruel with me, but I realize he's doing it because if I don't increase the severity of the work-outs, it will only make the progress stall a bit.
I cooked the BEST seafood dish today and made enough to add to my lunches for the next couple of days.
Anyone have a good website for low fat dishes/diabetic dishes??? I'm not diabetic, but I try to follow a diabetic diet....seems to have the best results for weight loss for me. (If anyone is interested, read the book "GI diet" by Rick Gallop - makes eating make sense and is essentially a diabetic diet).

Well I'm also trying to loose some weight before our March Break trip. I started at 182lbs Jan.6th and I'm 169.6lbs as of this morning - down 12.4lbs overall. I'm finally able to fit into some of my 'skinny' clothes again and I've lost almost all of the baby weight I put on with this last pregnancy (he's gonna be 2 this year so I told myself to drop the weight 'cuz I won't be able to use him as an excuse anymore!) I'm hoping to drop another 8-10lbs in February. I wish everyone success in the weight loss journeys! :grouphug:
