What would the MAYers be without the NewCrews???

DH told me that "Diamonds may be a Girl's best friend, but they are a Husband's worst enemy." It made me laugh.

Glad you are all better. Belle is still on the couch, but just had some more toast. Must be a quick moving virus.

Yay for us, MAYers! I like the new place we are calling home. It's a bit empty, but I am sure we will remedy that quick enough!

I'm sure we will be asking you tons of questions!! Can't wait to hear your report! :goodvibes I'd like an April report anyway. I'd love to try April sometime, my birthday and DS8's birthday are in April. But I think it's still spring break and "peak" season for Disney until about mid-April. . .

Momof2Disneyboys
02-04-2008, 01:20 PM
I think where Disney gets it's spring break / peak season rates is for college spring breaks. And I think most of them are over by the time you are going NC!

Most college spring breaks around here are in March or very eary April. As far as public schools around here, spring break consists of only a long weekend. (fri, sat, sun, mon)

I think you'll be alright! :wizard: I sure hope you don't run into large crowds!

I was just on All Ears and according to them "peak" season this year is 2/14 - 3/29. So apparently that's when they are expecting the larger crowds. You should be safe NC (and Mari's mom)! :goodvibes

Mornin!

Good grief, it's always something, isn't it?????

Belle has the stomach flu. Woke up at 2 AM to a bed full of YUCK. She's on the couch, watching Franklin. My poor baby.

I'm fighting a migraine :headache:

Kait- Did you go to SV schools? My kids are in that district.

:pixiedust: I hope you and Belle feel better soon!

I didn't go to SV but I went to a school district around there, I tried to PM you it but your PM box was full. :)

Hey Kait! We have a WalGreens in the town where my mother lives, about 30 minutes northeast of here. I was in there for the first time last week. I have to say, I wasn't really impressed. :confused3

Good to know. It's going right in beside our Target and WalMart, so I guess if I don't find something that I want in those two stores I have another option. ;)

JoBird
02-04-2008, 04:09 PM
D'oh!!! A full mailbox!!!!! I shall go and see to it right away.

Kait- thanks for the well wishes. My migraine is getting worse. Belle is feeling a lot better, but is complaining of a Headache herself, so Tylenol it is.

WFS, MAYers?

Baked BBQ pork chops with some sides for us. Nothing too hard-

Hmm. . . Now you've got me thinking about Target! :rotfl: I love the Target in Butler, but haven't been there in awhile. I just may have to make the trip! (it's about a 25-30 minute drive)

Chicken and dumplings for us. It's Market Day food, so I don't have to do much work!! Does anyone else get Market Day from there school? I love their food!! It's a little pricey but worth it!

Yum, i was going to do Chicken and Dumplings, but decided I wanted BBQ pork chops instead. I think the C&D would've been easier. Now I have to make sides to go with them.:rotfl:

Jo - 2 Excedrin Migraine and a full strength Pepsi (none of that Diet mess) along with a heating pad on the back of the neck should stop that migraine. I hate to suggest it but get off the computer and go lay down in a cool dark room with that heating pad for a little bit. The eyestrain on the puter is just going to make the head hurt worse.

Sorry the little one has a headache too. Does she get migraines as well? Both of my girls do - we have to be very careful with Abbey's triggers (MSG is a huge one for her).

It's very good. You should try it! Chicken, steaks, hamburgers, breads, cookies, it's all good! I like the meat because they come individually wrapped and they are so fresh. It's good for us because my kids won't eat meat so I just get out two pieces for DH & I and they thaw in no time and there's no waste. The kids love their french toast sticks!

Hey...I found you guys!

We had a very busy weekend out here. Met up with some friends from Texas and Northern California yesterday. Trying to catch up on everything now.

Jo: How is your California planning coming along?

Shelly: Checked on those fanny packs for you at DL - they don't have any character specific packs. They only sell ones that say "Disneyland" and "2008" embroidered on black. I think they are pricey at $16.00. You probably can do better on ebay or at walmart.

Huggie: Are you through with all your painting?

NC: Checking in. I kept my eyes out for those people wearing the Focker Watcher laynards. That is how I met up with Goofybaby on our last day at WDW. I was sure glad that I said something otherwise, I did not run into any Mayers here on the board.

Mari: How is your new job? Do you like it?

Welcome DisDee to the Mayer board! This is a great place to find out the best that WDW has to offer.

It's like a fundraiser for schools and organizations. It's all food! Similar to the Schwans delivery truck food, if you know what that is. A lot of schools are selling Market Day now and you just order it online and pick it up once a month at the school. Or if there's not a pick up location close to you I think you can have it shipped to your house now.

Hi Sea! :)

It's the median for schools around here. Do you think it's too early for her to go to a school setting??? right now she is in a regular sitter...

My new Job I love it. not too stressful, very flexable. i'm looking into a catholic school for my DD2 which is right down the block from my office not even a 5 min walk. Boss is great... Thanks for asking..

Wow Mari that would be nice. . . Long ago before we moved here when I worked at the bank and DS8 was in preschool I could see his preschool from the bank's drive-thru windows. That was such a great feeling knowing that he was so close!

it's great because i can see the school from my office window.... i went to visit the school today and i loved it. only 18 kids per class with a teacher and an aide... very small.... most public schools have about 30 kids per teacher...

Holy Cow $4500 for preschool!! We sure have a lower cost of living around here. . . Of course along with that comes lower pay here. . . :confused3

I think I paid like $600 or $700 for a year of preschool. I sent them when they were 4.

Mari - I think pre-school is very important for kids and that you are getting a bargin at 4500 for the year. In our area, the low end starts around 700 per month and can go up into $$$$$ depending on what you want your child to learn or experience. I think it is especially neat that she would be so close by.

Wow i guess that's a lot.. i'm wondering if i should send her at 3. here they have prek 3year olds then they would move to prek for 4 year olds then kinder.. i just don't know if she is too young for school... or maybe i want her to stay little forever.. the school has a music program and they teach them spanish aswell....

Classic, Sea. You are so helpful.:goodvibes

If you read any of my posts...the DL trip might be a dream.:rotfl: We are still trying to figure out finances. I told Dh he shouldn't have gotten me the ring for the anniversary b/c we had the trip(s) coming up and he said, "well, which would you rather have, diamonds or Disney?" to which I replied "I'd very much like to wear my Diamonds IN Disney, if you please." and he laughed and said he'll see what he can do.

I'm spoiled I tell you, and he told me yesterday that he of course wouldn't have it any other way. What a guy.

So, as of right now, nothing is settled. We are making an appointment with the accountant tomorrow, so after the sticker shock of that wears off, we'll see where we are sitting. :rotfl:

Glad you had a good weekend and that you found us in our new home!

Mari-
Mary Cat went to preschool while i worked and then I was home with Drew, but he started a church school a few days a week when he was 3, just to get him prepped for K-

I think you would find that she loves her school.
The babysitter you use now- does she teach them anything or is it just a purely babysitting setting?

I think she would benefit from being in an environment like a school setting, but you know her best.

What ever you feel most comfortable with. You could always wait until she is 4- it won't be to late then either.

My girlfriends do Monday Wed & Friday from 9am-2pm. They say the kids LOVE IT.

I personally would do it and you can use the school as a tax break. My girls LOVE LOVE LOVE school and it does get them ready for full day kindergarten.

Mari- 1/2 Day 4 year old Pre-school is $3700 a year at the school my children attend. That is for 5 Days a week 8 a.m. until noon. That does NOT include a snack or lunch. There are also registration fees and building fees and supplies fees on top of that. I just mention those as I was not aware of them when choosing our pre-school. Some pre-schools have them and some do not.

My children went to preschool at the age of 3. I think Chris went 3 days a week until noon. Chloe wanted to go everyday when she was 3 because big brother was in 1st grade and she didn't want to be home alone!

:rotfl:

Preschool is a personal choice. My kids loved it. :lovestruc

oh they are coming along.. it's taking a while. DH has been working in and out of town, and with taking the kids to school and just being mom, it tends to get done on the weekends mostly. I will try and post a pic this week, although the Charleston pics wont be ready for a while until I find the right frames for them.

I am also having a hard time with the fact that I want to make it perfect, but also dont want to go over board on the decorating knowing that a year from now we will be getting ready to leave it all behind. All this is just to spruce up the house and getting ready to sell. Crazy.. I finally love my bedroom , but I'll only enjoy it for a year. DH says well just paint the new bedroom the same colour as well, as he loves it too.
Next job is the upstairs hallways, and the bathroom.

We live in a older home, ( like 70 years ), the house we bought 10 years ago when we got married at 23. So we are ready now for something bigger and newer. It's hard to decide though whether to just buy a home that is ready to move into, or should we think about having one built? Have any of you built homes... is all the hassles people talk about worth it.

May was great last year. Wait times were mostly under 20 minutes. Weather was great. :goodvibes

Let us know what you decide!

Momof2Disneyboys
02-05-2008, 10:24 AM
We live in a older home, ( like 70 years ), the house we bought 10 years ago when we got married at 23. So we are ready now for something bigger and newer. It's hard to decide though whether to just buy a home that is ready to move into, or should we think about having one built? Have any of you built homes... is all the hassles people talk about worth it.

Lake, we have built 2 homes. We started off in an older home like you. Actually it was over 100 years old. We fixed it up and fixed it up but it was just always something that needed done. Never-ending. So we got tired of it and started looking for a newer house. Then we decided to build. At that time (2001) it was way cheaper to build than to buy. Lumber, copper, all that was way down in price. So we ended up building a better (and brand new) house rather than buying a used one not as nice. And we spent less money!

So then when we had to move (2006) here for DH's work we thought we'd do it again. We looked at existing houses in the area, but after having a new home it was hard to find one we liked. So DH wanted to build again. Little did we know, the market had changed so much in 5 years. It would have been way cheaper to buy than to build this time. Lumber, copper, and all that was way up now. But we went ahead and built anyway. Sometimes I really regret it. Mostly when the mortgage payment is due! :rotfl: I love the house, but what a difference 5 years made. Our mortgage is over double what it was before.

So anyway, I would check out your area and market and really do your research before deciding anything.

Yes, the whole process of building is quite a hassle, like you have heard. You really have to be on top of things and make sure everything is going as planned. The waiting is so hard. . . But I'd say it is worth it in the end!

We are planning on driving down from Maryland. I can't believe how expensive everything has gotten. :( Even cutting costs staying at a nice off-site condo my budget still looks to blow past 3 grand for 8 days in FL. Yikes!

I'm curious to see how everyone is & see how Michele's baby is doing.

You are a better woman than I am! I would have never made it with all the ECVs. In family, everyone would have depended on my for everything. I would have had a meltdown and it would not have been pretty. You were holding it together so well! You must be an  !

Yay for the new home!

More to come soon...Just not this week....it's crazy here!

Hey Sulley! :)

Mornin MAYers, and all in-betweeners ( that's for us, Ms. April Flower):flower3:

How's everyone this fine Super/Fat Tuesday??;)

Okay, fess up...who voted???? PA doesn't vote yet. I'm still like this... as to the candidates.

Belle is all better with a waffle and powdered sugar sticking to her fingers as I type. My migraine is still hanging on. Two cups of coffee and it still hurts. I, however, slept wonderfully, thanks to my Goodies.:rotfl:

Sea- 25 years is a big deal!. Congrats! You better get on the horn, get in the car, do something. That woman needs BLING!!!! Hurry, hurry!!!:rotfl:

Shelly- I forgot to tell you that our Anniversary is March 7th. It rained all day on our wedding. Kinda' like today. YUCK.

Ms. DUCK!!!!! where have you been????? How's the Denali??? I see you have been a few times to the Happiest Place on Earth since we last talked. When were you there in december? Huggie was there too then...

which leads me to say...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISABELLE!!!!!princess: :cake: :jumping1: :clown: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Huggie- just wait until when you are standing, they are nose to nose with you and staring you in the eye. Mary Cat will be 13 next month and I am dreading having a teenager. Good thing she's a sweet girl, 'cause Momma don't take no crap.:rotfl:

Sulley- how's the polyester treating you?:goodvibes Are the crowds this week big?

Mari- any decisions yet? Do you HAVE to make a decision now? Or can you wait a bit? If you are uncomfortable, then maybe now is not the time.:confused3 You will know when she is ready.

Lake- how are the renovations coming? We are still waiting on Pics...

NC- I see potential for tornadic activity out in good ole' Arkansas. Be safe today. Also- we were fast forwarding the commercials last night on some program we were watching, and up pops that commercial! DH and I both started yelling and reaching for the remote to back it up. We loved it. And yes, I am a sap too, b/c I got teary eyed.:goodvibes

Have a great day MAYers, and if you happen to be in PA today, don't drown.

Jo

I voted today! :thumbsup2

Jo - We had beautiful weather yesterday. Nearly 80 degrees. Light breeze and you guessed it, today we are forcast for tornadoes and hail. :rolleyes1

Don't ya just love that commercial! I want to see it right now! :happytv:

oh they are coming along.. it's taking a while.

We built twice. Loved it! :thumbsup2 It just depends on your personality and how well you and your hubby agree on things. We are easy. I just say that I like this and hubby says ok. :thumbsup2 As long as I am happy with it, he is happy with it.

Huggie - Tell sweet Isabelle Happy Birthday! Are you celebrating today or just on her birthday?

Seacrest - 25 years is HUGE! Way to go! :woohoo: Something special should be in order.

Mari - When did you change your Avatar? That is so cute! :cutie:

Hey all!

Primary elections are being held here today in CA. A lot of radio, tv, phone, email and mail advertisements have bombarded our home.

Eli Manning was suppose to come to DL yesterday to be in a parade, but couldn't make it out hear because of all the air traffic out of Sky Harbor in Phoenix. Saw the commercial last night - it was great!

A really beautiful day in CA - the sky is so blue and the air is crisp. It is suppose to get up to 64. Check out the pier cam: http://www.westland.net/piercam/

Jo - how is the head?? How is Belle? I also spotted $99 each way on SWA from PHL to LAX on their DING! fares this week so keep an eye out. I don't have PIT on my watchlist but they may be running the same deal out of there.

Daisy - Hi! We have PMed before when we were planning our move to MD. Our DDs chat on the teen board and AIM sometimes. Hi from Harford Co. :cool1:

I think Mason is teething. Poor baby is drooling like a bandit, feels warm and is quite clingy and cranky. He threw up twice this morning so maybe it is a tummy virus too.

Thanks. I know. I love babies but I do really look forward to the day when he can tell me is going to throw up on me the second before he does it. He is watching Play with Me, Sesame now. Yes, I'm a bad parent that lets her 8 month old watch TV.

Did you make any decisions about preschool? I kept Abbey (DD9) home and put her in a 1/2 day church preschool at age 4 and she LOVED it. I had to send my oldest to a montessori based daycare from about 8 months on and for the most part she LOVED it. I felt guilty about sending her so young but she really thrived in that environment. Good luck!

Shelly- oh good grief. I want to make plans either yay or nay as to our trip!! So I can get some good airfare. I think we would be flying into SNA or Long Beach.

CCF- Thanks for the heads up as to the airfare. Hope Mason feels better soon. I remember those teething days. They were so not fun. Then Drew came a long and he was mildly easy- but I really got it with Belle.:) She made up fir the easy time I had with the other two. Must be the red hair.:lmao: At least, that's what her Ped. told me.:goodvibes

But, I waited to long and now there are no more tickets available. :sad2: The March 15th show sold out super fast (before I could even think about getting tickets), so they added on second show March 5th. But DH will be out of town then and it's mid-week, so there's no way I can go to that one. I am so bummed!

I emailed the teacher asking for suggestions on pulling up that grade - peer tutoring, additional resources, etc... DD is upstairs pouting and I find on the desk where she just did her homework a note from the school that she won a Science Award.

Great. Poor kid comes home all excited about winning an Award and she is socked with restriction for failing a test in another subject. I hate being the grown up sometimes!!!!

Super Bowl hero Manning doesn't go to Disneyland

The New York Giants quarterback's no-show for an Anaheim parade is blamed on airport delays in Phoenix.

By Bob Pool, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
February 5, 2008

Super Bowl hero Eli Manning acted like a quarterback Monday when it came time for his "I'm going to Disneyland!" moment: He passed.

The New York Giants star was a no-show for a scheduled celebratory parade on Disneyland's Main Street, even though he shouted the familiar catchphrase on television Sunday night moments after his team's 17-14 victory over the favored New England Patriots.

Disneyland executives said Manning, the Super Bowl most valuable player, was unable to leave Phoenix in time for the 10:30 a.m. parade because of crowded post-Super Bowl air traffic conditions around Sky Harbor Airport.

Instead, he later hopped a plane for New York for the 2 p.m. Pacific time taping of "The Late Show with David Letterman."

Today he is expected to appear with teammates in a ticker-tape parade on New York City's Broadway.

Disneyland's parade went ahead as planned, minus Manning. Photos showed glum-faced Pop Warner league football players from three Tustin Cobra teams riding with Disney characters on the float that they had expected to share with him.

Theme-park operators said Manning's visit would be rescheduled, although no date had been set.

"There were delays in the Phoenix airport this morning," park spokesman John McClintock said. "Our own staff was even late getting back."

Disney officials have recorded "I'm going to Disneyland!" TV spots following 21 Super Bowl games.

In 2007, two Indianapolis Colts -- Coach Tony Dungy and running back Dominic Rhodes -- were featured.

On Sunday, Manning actually recorded two different phrases, one for Disneyland and one for Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The second version aired on East Coast television stations.

Game-winning players are paid to shout the two phrases in the chaotic moments after the final whistle. They are prompted to read three times into a camera by a Disney producer with a printed cue card. Disney's goal is to catch the chosen player with his helmet on and the game ball in his hand.

The finished commercial, broadcast immediately after the game and to be repeated for several days afterward, begins with an off-camera voice that states, "Eli Manning, you've just won the Super Bowl. What are you going to do now?"

Manning had already swapped his helmet for a baseball-type cap when the Disney camera caught up with him on the field at University of Phoenix Stadium.

McClintock said he did not know how much Manning was paid to shout the Disneyland plug.

"They probably wouldn't let me tell you if I knew," he said.

Oh crap, that sucks.

I know with Mary cat, (she is only 12, but will be 13 next mo.), she is an extrememely smart kid. However, she just can not do well in math to save her life. She is in Honors classes and her lowest grade in all of them is 94- except for Math- it's an 89.

She studies so hard and works like there is no tomorrow for her grades. Here is our deal- she knows that as long as I know she is absolutely doing her best- and i always know if she is or is just slacking a wee bit- if she brings home a bad grade, she never gets in trouble. I mean, I know I was an awful student, and we all have bad days from time to time- and I never thought it was fair to get punished for a subject I really stank at. She got her math genius from me, bless her heart.

She has only ever been in trouble once from me for a grade, and that was Spanish; she was slacking a bit, but it was a tough year for her b/c we moved.

So, really- tell your daughter I'm taking up for her-:goodvibes i might let it slide this time, if I didn't see it as a continual problem, and maybe get her a tutor once a week or so to help her along.

Being the parent really stinks at times, doesn't it???

Well if it were any other class there would be room for leeway but with this one she has had a rotten attitude for months. Just last night she had a homework question that she couldn't figure out so she asked me and I told her what I thought the answer was and asked DH and he told her to look it up. She said she didn't care if she got it right or not because it was "just Geometry"... That is just a drop in the bucket on her bad attitude about this class. She spends way too much time on the computer and on her cell phone but we have let that slide a little because the grades were improving.

Once the week restriction is over I think we will find a way to celebrate the Science Award with a nice dinner out or something. I am all about Positive Reinforcement with the kids and I don't want the troubles in Geometry to overshadow how she has excelled in Science.

Hey CCF: I have a 15.5 year old son and 21 year old son.

With my 21, he is naturally smart and didn't really have to study too hard to get good grades. He pretty much breezed through school. He very talented in art, drawing, computers and plays 4 or 5 instruments. He had some medical issues after high school and took some time off from school and just worked when he could. He is now at Santa Monica College getting his GE done and will be transferring to a university to complete his studies.

With my 15.5 year old, he is quite sharp too, but has to work a bit extra to get the better grades. He has a fantastic memory. At 6 years old he could memorize 25 papges of lines for his acting projects. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and wants to do more acting after he finishes with school.

We are pretty fortunate that our boys do their work and really try to achieve their best. We constantly encourage them to find their niche in life and go for it. Don't push your dreams on your kids, guide them, they will thank you for it.

CCF- Don't you just love the girl attitudes??? Oh I know I am going to "reap what I sowed" x3! :goodvibes Well, it sounds like she has trouble already in this class. Sounds like the punishment in this instance was warranted.

Sea- has your youngest done any acting lately?

WFS MAYers???

Here we are having Stuffed Sole with scallops and crabmeat (don't get excited- I got it at omaha Steaks, LOL) some potatoes au gratin and salad with some other vegetable.

I am loving the stuff I got at Omaha. Really good for a quick meal.

One more thing: I really believe in being positive with your kids. We would celebrate everytime something good happen in school or whatever activity they were apart of.

I also always offered to my boys tutoring if they need extra help with anything. I wanted them to know that we would help them to succeed. I think if your kids know you are behind them, they will do their best.

My son Chris is looking for a new agent now. He is too old to have a "child actor" agent and too young to have regular talent agent. The last few things he has done were some AFI films. They are mostly student projects, but they get you great exposure. He is what they call "in between" a boy and man. Not a lot of work out there for those types unfortunately. But he is still trying. He is learning ballroom dancing now and that will be good to have on his resume. I told him the other day, Disney needs to cast him as a boy version of Hannah Montana! We had a good laugh about that.

Never mind- I had a really blonde moment... not surprising.

Have a great night MAYers!

Thanks Jo and Sea.

We have always celebrated achievements as well and taking away her "distractions" for a week should give her plenty of extra time to improve her Geometry grade (and attitude). She knows we are looking for a Peer Tutor and we will be behind her 100% in trying to pull up the grade. DH is a former college Professor and he has helped her with her Geometry as much as she will let him. He has offered over and over but her attitude has become quite flippant and she hasn't wanted to sit down and go over her Math. She is a quite talented kid - plays 4 instuments and is quite the artsy, creative type. Until we moved to MD she was in a School of the Arts program.

Sea - what part of LA are you in? Good luck to your DS in finding a new agent. I know an awesome talent coach in the LA area if you ever need one. He worked with the Mouseketeers and with the kids on several popular TV shows. :thumbsup2

This has been one of those "Calgon take me away" days as a Mom.

As we say in the South.... "Tomorrow is Another Day!"

Since he is the head guy there he has to go.:sad1: I feel so depressed.... all the planning for nothing... well i'm still holding out hope... he said me and DD should go since i had it planned but i don't think it will be the same.....

Good Morning.... so did you all survive SUPER TUESDAY! haha

Looks like a day of rain here... gloomy and ugly.

Ethan woke up with a cough this morning... hoping it 's nothing more...
he is also complaining about not wanting to go to school, but I know that's more about not wanting to sit through the church service they have today than anything else. According to him... church takes too LONG mommy.
I remember those days, although I did not attend Catholic school , but my husband did. We chose to send him there as it's the best school in our district boundaries... when we move, we'll then decide which to send him to then. One more year here though.

Oh the joys...

lets see... its a laundry day... what's everyone else doing?

Mornin.

Fixing Belle breakfast and not much else going on other than cleaning.

So far, I've washed a load of clothes, folded and put away two loads, made the beds, cleaned three toilets and two bathrooms, made lunches, fixed breakfasts, cleaned the kitchen, took a shower and got dressed and saw two kids off to school.

I think I've had a full day already, and they (close your ears, Seacrest- LOL) call us Stay at home Moms, like we do nothing.:rotfl:

ah, the joy.

Mari- that really bites. I hope you are able to work it out somehow.
I know!!!! You could go in October when we go! I still am hoping Lake gets to go...:rolleyes1 Being an October'er is fun, too...

we'll he's off to school, and sounds pretty good now.
he'll be home by noon, so I felt okay about sending him...

yes the flu is here too... but we've been sparred so far.

Emmy and I are eating some breakfast and thinking of what we should do today other than the amazing pile of laundry that suddenly formed on the basement floor... didn't I just do this on Sunday...
... when Ethan David gets home I think we'll make some banana bread, its his favorite, and I think that should cheer him up.

Some friends and I went out for a fun girls night last night.. we went to see JUNO and then out for some drinks afterwards....so much fun!
We try and do it once a month now... our book club, has kind of turned into a movie club. DH loves it too, because I can see all the "chick flick movies" with my friends, and he can be spared...haha
Plus it's a night that energizes me and makes me so glad to be able to stay home with the kids:cloud9: , after a night out with my friends hearing about their dreadful bosses, and all the work to be done.

I love my life this morning!

Good morning!

Mari - I am so very sad for you. :sad1: Maybe you should think about going with just you & DD. . . What are the dates of your DH's conference? Could he join you for part of your trip when he gets back? I would probably take the kids alone, but I probably wouldn't go for a whole week, maybe 4-5 days.

Or maybe you could join some of the other MAYers in Oct. or Nov. But then that's kind of close to your Dec. trip isn't it? :confused3 Oh I don't know. . . I'm still really hoping your DH can work something out for May. :wizard:

Huggie- I hope you feel better. How was Isabelle's Day?

Shelly- with this warm weather, I have spring fever!!! That won't be good when it starts snowing tomorrow.

Lake- I miss my girlfriends so badly in arkansas! We had supper club with all the families once a month at someone's house, and then also once a month, the girls got together and had dinner, a movie, shopping, whatever. It was so energizing, just like you said. Moms need their time, just so that they can remember what it's like to not be responsible for anyone but themselves for a few hours. NC- hope all is okay in your neck of the woods... I just read about the tornados.. how terrible.

We are all OK here, but this was a terrible storm. Please pray for the people in our state and the surrounding states, there have been a lot of lives lost.

I knew this was going to be a bad storm. I picked dd up from dance and thought we were going to make it home before it hit, but didn't. It was an extremely fast moving storm. The wind was terrible. I am not sure what it was recorded at but trees were blown down in our area. I picked up several limbs in our yard this morning. However this is nothing compared to the areas where the tornados hit. Please pray for the people in these areas. To top it all off, while they are doing search and rescue this morning, there are snow flurries. It is very cold.

Also, this storm is still moving thru our country. Hopefully, it will not be as bad in these states but it may be.

I hate the sirens too, but thank God for them as they save lives. They go off once a week here on Wed. at noon. So it is always in the back of our minds.

I don't think the Bentonville area was affected. Atkins, (they used to make Atkins pickles there until the factory closed a year or two ago.), which is on I-40 about half way between here and Fort Smith. Then all the way to Memphis and well into Tennessee.

Glad you are okay NC! Sounds like an awful storm. :sad2:

I know, I thought it was a little pricey too. The base charge for the basket & delivery is $25, so then everything else you ad is the price of whatever you get. . . Still seems high. . . Plus those weren't all necessarily anniversary items. . . I'll have to think about it.

Shelly - Peggy has a cute pic of a Race Car Mickey basket on her site. I know you guys are Nascar fans. It is pretty cute. You should take a look at it! :thumbsup2

Huggie - Is today Ash Wednesday?

Yes it is. We went to Mass and got our ashes

So I emailed memoriesbybetsy and this is what she suggested:

2 Free Anniversary Buttons
2 Mickey Etched Wine Glasses
Mickey Frame
ESPN Trivia Book (or Birnbaum's Guide to WDW)
Mickey Woven Throw

For a grand total of $87.78

What do you think???

That sounds very expensive. Do this get an Easter basket after Easter, when they go on sale and keep checking Disneyshopping.com or the Disney store and then make it yourself and ship it UPS. It will be cheaper to ship it.

Lake-Right now it is misting/raining. About 4;30, the sun came out and I saw blue sky! amazing. I think it's supposed to get yucky soon though. It's been pretty warm for the past two days, but the forecast is calling for snow on Saturday.

It IS Kait's Birthday! I already told her, but Happy Birthday again, Kait! She told me she is trying to give up the Internet for Lent, so it might be a month before she sees this. See ya' when you come back, KAit!:wizard:

I'm taking Mary Cat to her bible study at church. Good thing it's 3 minutes from the house. I hate driving at night.

Take Tilapia in a pyrex drizzle olive oil. Add frozen spinach on top of the fish season with salt and pepper and garlic then add feta cheese. Top with breadcrumbs and oregano. Drizzle lemon on the fish and put in a 350 oven. Cover with foil and uncover 5 minutes before it is done to crisp.

The length of how long you want to bake the fish is up to you. I like mine well done.

Enjoy

Hey guys.... i noticed that the disboard added dates for P&PP but NONE of them land on a day that i can go.... what a bummer..... I hope they add other days......

oh wait is didn't write.....

I'M GOING TO DISNEY!!!!!!

So after work i went to my DH job. I know that his boss LOVES LOVES LOVES :worship: my DD2... so I attacked the man's heart. The whole way there I had her practicing in her carseat "i want lilerella castle". When we got there right on cue she started to chant princess: ... he asked me what does she mean. I then proceded to tell him that she must mean Disney since there have been many commercials and i'm always looking stuff up on the web. I told him that we had a vacation planned for May but now (while i have a really sad face on) with the conference we have to cancel. Again with a sob in my face i said I hope they can refund the money we paid (it was only $200, he doesn't know that) or else we lose it. In the meantime imagine my DD2 in the background yelling Lilerella Castle and to top it off I had her mickey ears hat in the car so i put them on her. He then turns and tells my DH "Carlos you should have told me you had a vaca planned and paid for" (this is me :hyper: :hyper:) then like nothing he tells him if he wants to trade conferences. You see there are 2 big conf that they go to. they alternate so both of them will not be out of the shop. So easily enough they swapped conferences ........

we'll we got snow last night, so it's a bit prettier out there today than the dreary weather we had yesterday morning.

So today I sit at home and wait for the phone company to come and fix my phone, we have been with out service for three days now... hopefully it's fixed today, or else there will be an immediate switch in providers. I think it has to do with the old wires in this house, but we will see.

have a great day, and since I have no phone and i have to stay home... you'll be seeing me agaian soon.

Huggie, how are you feeling?

DMM- how's Roman?

NC- girl, please. You forget we met.:flower3:
You are in awesome shape. I haven't worked out steadily in two years and it is driving me crazy. I used to be in super shape, worked out/ran everyday. Since this arthritis thing has kicked in, I don't have the energy I used to. It makes me sick. All of those years of hard work, gone. The goofy thing about my body type is that when I get down to business, I mean, REALLY work hard, I can get myself back into shape in a couple months time. I am blood type O+ and if you've ever used the "eat right for your blood type" diet, you know O's must have tons of protein. Which is why, when I get serious, I develop muscles at an alarming rate.

I have to get my training manuals out to get myself worked up into going to the gym. It is 2 minutes from my garage to the front door of the gym we go to. What really stinks is having a DH that runs for an hour EVERY day, backed up with another hour on the stair stepper followed by weights. Good grief, the man is strong.:headache: He wants to do an iron man competition...

Okay, now that I feel bad about myself, I think I'll go drown my sorrows in a pan of brownies. Haha, Just Kidding.

I have been doing 100 sit ups a day for the past 3 weeks. I haven't noticed a difference. . . :confused3 I'm not necessarily trying to lose weight, just tone up a bit! I had 2 kids and it didn't phase my body a bit. Then when I hit the big 30 it all went down hill. :sad2: (oh wait, I forgot I'm still 29 like JO!! ) My stomach has just gotten so flabby!

We will all start walking around the neighborhood as soon as the weather breaks. That's more to get the kids used to walking for the trip! Plus soccer starts in April so we will all be a little more active. Right now I just feel so lazy!

I'm thinking about tanning a little before the trip too. I haven't went to the tanning beds for about 3 years. I think we had this discussion last year at about this time about how tan fat looks better than white fat!!:lmao: Does anyone else remember that conversation?!?

Uh... I have seen you too! And you look awesome! Like a workout queen or perhaps princess would be a better word. princess:

Don't beat yourself up. You have been going thru alot and if you do start back, be sure to check with your doctor. (as if I need to tell nurse Jo that!) :rotfl:

Well, while we were at the beach last summer, I started eating ice cream everyday and then continued it after we got home. You would never believe what happened? I gained weight. :headache: As if I think that is not what would have happened. :rotfl: I also quit working out. What was up with that? :confused3

Well, it is a new year and I am busting it out and breaking it down. Back in my twenties, I could pop off 10 lbs in a month. Well not anymore. So I am busting my booty to get back to Disney weight last year! Ha! It is going to happen!

I have never done the Eat Right for Your Blood Type diet. What is it about? I am doing Clean Eating by Tosca Reno right now and I really like it. It is a new diet for me. I like to try new things. :goodvibes

Can I tell you how bummed I am that The Pirate and Princess Party is not on the 13th. I am trying to convince Dh to go a day earlier.

Wish me luck

Did you find the dates somewhere??? If it's not on the 13th then I wonder why MK is closing at 7:00. I thought the P&PP was going to be on Tues. 13th and Fri. 16th. . .

:rotfl2: Yes, actually I am just on a short break!!

Now the kids are kicking me off the computer so they can play their Webkinz. Does anyone else's kids have these? They are a stuffed animal that you buy and they come with a code and you log into the Webkinz website and enter your code and then you can play with your pet online. They make rooms, do jobs, earn webkinz cash, shop, go to school, play games, play with friends online. It's actually pretty neat. All the kids around here have them!

NC- thanks so much for the inspirational words of encouragement...

I guess ya'll all heard about Romney...

The whole process is crazy. Every day brings somehting new to the race.

MAry Cat came home yesterday and said her history teacher has been talking about the race this year, and I am really peeved about it. Mark is so mad he is thinking of scheduling a conference with the teacher.
I am all for teaching the kids about the political process, what the candidates believe, etc. Anything that is factual, anything that would be a lesson for the kids. NOT personal opinion. HOWEVER, and this is a big however...
This teacher has badmouthed every candidate EXCEPT the one he is voting for (Obama).

Among other things, he has said that as far as Hillary goes, she and her husband have no right being in the white house b/c of Bill's extra-marital affairs.:scared1: ( I'm sorry, but since when does a History teacher have the right to talk to my child about infidelity?!????) And, what makes that a good enough reason to keep her from being the next POTUS? What about her experience? Nope, nothing said as far as that.

He said that John mcCain makes him sick to his stomach and that there is something about him that creeps him out.:scared1: I could never say this about a POW, regardless of his political affiliation, simply b/c anyone that is tortured the way that man was deserves nothing BUT admiration and respect.
He then rambled off a whole bunch of incorrect statements that we have all heard before, but none of them had any merit.

He said Huckabee would never get the nod b/c he is a Preacher. Well, there may be truth in that, but still... to say it to a bunch of 12-13 year olds...:confused3

Romney, he said was just plain weird.

And that's just the beginning of it.

He made the kids come home and ask out of the blue who the parents were voting for, and then they went around the room the next day and reported what the parents had said. Um, since when is it anyone's business WHO we vote for? I mean, isn't that why the voting process is the way it is...IN PRIVATE???? And what if our kids don't agree with the teachers opinion as to who the next President should be? Will that in some way cause the teacher to look at our children in a different light???

As you can tell, I am a bit upset, and still haven't decided how to handle Mr. History Teacher. I'd like to sock him in his left eyeball but since I turned 29 (!) I made a vow to not be so , well, violent, if you will.:flower3:

Okay, sorry to ramble. Vent over.

Why was it again that I chose this school district???

Well your DD is too young. But I'm surprised you haven't seen them in the stores anywhere. They are at just about every store around here!

Oh jo i'm sorry about the whole situation. I think i would contact the principal or something. Voting is DEF a private matter. He should NEVER have asked the kids to ask around and report. He is there to teach no to give his personal views on things.... OHHHHH that gets me upset. he isn't even talking about the issues just that he thinks that candidate is "weird" come on have some sense.... i would def call... well before Mark goes with his strong man body and beats him up....

You know, Mark was a teacher at one time. He knows what should be said and what shouldn't. I might have to let him after the teacher this time. I really love to watch him in action.:lmao: I have seen many a person squirm when up against my DH. He learned from a very young age how to really get his point across and make the other person look foolish, all done without ever raising his voice.;) He had a great teacher in his Father, who was quite high up in the Air Force.
Me, I just yell and scream and hurl insults (And sometimes other things.:scared1: ) It was quite the learning curve when we got married. Our fights have been entertaining at best.

That school stinks, that's what! And, yes, the amount they are paid vs. what the other teachers in the county make makes my skin crawl. It's unbelievable.

That stinks! After hearing your stories and those of DH's co-workers about that school I am so thankful that we did not move into that district.

We came close to moving there and very close to buying a house in SR schools (the one between yours & mine). SR schools are probably okay. But I thank God that we ended up here. Being a somewhat small town and very religious community I think really makes a difference in the type of teachers they hire here. Most (or possibly all) of them are Christians. They can't come right out and make that known or teach any religion being in a public school, but it just really reflects in their actions and personalities and teachings. Which has been a huge blessing for DS8.

Yes, I think you should let Mark loose on them!! :scared1: That'll teach them a lesson. :rotfl:

Jo

That just makes my blood boil!!!:furious:

I believe so strongly in the right to vote. If anyone, beside me and DH, tried to form the political opinions of my child, we would be all over them.

The best government teacher I ever had, had us read the platform of each political party (very boring read but I learned so much). Then we had to write an essay about which party we felt that our views were most closely aligned with. We weren't "graded" on our essay but were given credit or no credit meaning you either did it or not.

Ugh! Why doesn't this teacher do something productive with their time and talk about issues in the election like the economy, the war, immigration, taxes, rather than bash candidates. Present to the students each candidates platform rather than give statements about morality, bashing a national hero, or attacking someone on their religious convictions!

I am very sensitive about these things. Sorry for my rant!

The one thing to be sensitive about is that if this teacher would be willing to say these sorts of things in class... Would they be the kind of person who would take it out on your child if you talked to them?

Sorry, I am just very sensitive about these political issues. I just went off on my Mom yesterday for bashing a candidate who is not even affiliated with the party I support. She just had a lot of incorrect information from the media and that sort of thing just flys all over me.
