I doubt this will be as entertaining or enlightening as some dining reviews so I’ll try to keep this short and to the point. You don’t care that I’m male, 22, on my second trip to Disney along with my girlfriend of 3ish years who’s on her first trip to Disney right? Didn’t think so.

I’ll be rating the following counter service meals on the following criteria:

HIGHER IS ALWAYS BETTER EVEN FOR HEC!

SPO- Speed of Ordering. This includes the efficiency of the ordering process, how well castmember knows what “I’ll have the #3 no tomato with apple slices” means, speed of food to my outstretched hands after order taken, and two other variables mentioned later.

HEC- Overall Hectastity of Restaurant experience. This includes availability of seating, how crazy I felt while ordering/devouring, how many kids tried to eat my sandwich, and three other variables mentioned later.

QUAL- Overall Quality of food. Assumes each bite is served on silver plate with gold fork. No relation to cost. Straight up quality rating without further variables to take into account.

VAL- Overall value of meal. There are 18 variables here which are too many to list. Basically it comes down to how happy I was to part with my $20 after consumption of meal.

OK FINE! A little about my counter service philosophy. My girlfriend does not eat much and would rather skip the meal in lieu of chocolate cake and a spicy cheese pretzel. Thus, our goal was to share most meals around noon to hold off pretzel purchase until 3pm to hold off dinner until 530-6pm. The value rating is thus partially based on how successful we were holding off pretzel purchase until 3pm.

On several occasions she said, “I don’t understand why the internet people complain so much about the food at Disney, it’s all really good!” I had to explain to her in harsh terms that “Dear, the reason the food is good is because I spent 8 hours a day for a month straight reading the DIS. If you want to go to Sci-Fi by all means we can go.” This was followed by a quick, “Is it 3pm yet?”

Alphabetically except when I forget until later or mess up:

ABC Commissary – Dinner 540pmish Day 5ish

(2) Fried Fish $7.09 * 2
(1) Large Drink $2.39

I understand plastic is in with facial reconstruction and retro seating, but I did not feel this translated well to fried fish. We planned to go back to Toy Story Pizza Planet, but they closed at 529pm (When EMH was to 10pm no less! Crimes!) and we didn’t get off the Backlot Tour until 533pm. My girlfriend wanted to try the Chicken Curry, but because the picture looked disgusting and I couldn’t imagine how a place specializing in Ugly Betty Cheeseburgers could make a decent curry, I convinced her to stay away. The fish is not as good as Yorkshire at Epcot but is edible with the very-difficult-to-open tartar sauce packets and a pretty good value considering you get 3 large fish-like strips and a bunch of run-of-the-mill fries. Sorry-about-the-dashes I’ll try to keep them at a minimum in the future. There is plenty of seating and the line moved relatively fast for us. When we left the lines were getting long since it was the only counter service remaining open and it looked like they could have used another cashier or two.

SPO- 8/10 Efficient and speedy

HEC- 9/10 Plenty of room to spread out. No kids trying to munch my fish is a big plus.

QUAL- 6/10 For Hollywood Studios it wasn’t that bad, but this was probably some of the worst food we encountered.

VAL- 9/10 Plenty of food and large drink

I would recommend Pizza Planet if you want pizza during your trip, but this wasn’t by any means awful especially considering the immense amount of seating and several different options.

Anandupar Local Food Cafes – Next to Yak and Yeti in Asia Lunch 12pm Day 4

Crispy Honey Chicken $8.99
Chicken Fried Rice $3.99
Pork Egg Rolls $3.29
Large Drink $2.39

I was looking forward to this counter service because saying “Anandupar Local Food Cafes” is more fun than say waiting in line for Country Bear Jamboree. Try saying it out loud now, “Anandupar Local Food Cafes.” Almost as fun as actually being there huh? The line to order was the slowest we encountered. Really, very slow. The menu is also small and hard to read for the sight challenged, but there is a menu at the register to look over while ordering. The egg rolls and fried rice were very good and would make a great snack. The entrees come in a takeout like box and are on a bed of rice. I was expecting the Honey Chicken to be smothered in sauce similar to Panda Express Orange Chicken, but there was very little sauce on the chicken. It was basically chicken nuggets on top of a bed of rice with very little sauce. We found this to be disappointing, especially considering how fun the name of the restaurant is to say. There is a lot of seating in the rear of the restaurant and the condiments included soy sauce, hot sauce, and “duck” sauce packets. I tried to duck sauce but after trying it once and not being able to discern the flavor I was scared to dip again. The Shrimp Lo Mein looked good and I would have liked to have tried something else, but we were not particularly pleased and let down a bit by the Honey Chicken.

SPO – 4/10 Very slow for only 3 or so people in front of us.

HEC- 10/10 Since ordering was so slow nothing was really going on. Ample seating in back with umbrellas to shade from the sun.

QUAL- 7/10 Fried rice and egg rolls would make a great snack. Honey chicken left something to be desired

VAL – 9/10 Plenty of food for the two of us. 2 egg rolls, large side of fried rice, and a lot of chicken nuggets on top of even more white rice. Very filling.

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café – 3 times, Lunch and Dinner Twice

2 times:
Chicken and Rib Combo $13.99
Large Drink $2.39
Triple Chocolate Cake $3.39

1 time:
Turkey Bacon Wrap $7.59
Large Drink $2.39
Chili $3.09

We ate at Cosmic Ray’s three times because it was pretty good and really convenient. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the lines are fast. We heard more than a few people exclaiming. “Wow, real food!” when entering. Apparently they had spent one too many meals at the Electric Umbrella. The chicken is really good, but the ribs are only OKish. You get a good chunk of chicken and 3 ribs. A lot of meat on the ribs but they tasted overly processed and the sauce isn’t particularly tangy or BBQ-y. The “Sandwiches Bay” is a little misleading as the only “sandwich” options are the Turkey Bacon Wrap, Veggie Wrap, and Pork Sandwich. I would have assumed there would be other sandwich options. The Turkey Bacon Wrap is very large and was plenty to share and the chips it came with were actually good, especially with the extra chili we ordered. We ate here one evening at the beginning of EMH and it was swamped with people, many of which did not realize there was a lot of seating around the corner. Late at night and for EMH the Sandwich Bay is not open.

SPO- 9/10 Efficient and they know what they’re doing. They move a lot of people through quickly.

HEC- 7/10 For EMH this place was swamped and pretty slow with a lot of people confused about where to go and what to order. There is plenty of seating, but the lines get long and it is sometimes hard to move around through the lines to get to the seating area.

QUAL- 8/10 The Chicken, Turkey Bacon Wrap, Chili, and Chips were very good. The Ribs are only OK.

VAL- 9/10 Especially on the DDP this would be the place to get the most bang for your buck. The Combo is enough to share especially with an extra side and the Turkey Bacon Wrap is huge for $7.

More to come as I type.

Earl of Sandwich – Downtown Disney Day 3 Saturday Dinner 7pm

The Full Montagu $5.75
Whatever GF got I don’t remember and she wouldn’t let me try it $5.75
2 Fountain Drinks $1.75 * 2

The Earl of Sandwich is great. We went at what I would imagine is the busiest time – Saturday at 7pm and there was a very long line ahead of us. We heard the wait for Rainforest Café was 90 minutes plus which seemed entirely ridiculous but I guess if it was that or brown lobsters at Capn Jacks I would go with the waffle fries and rhinoceros noises. Anyway, the line went by pretty fast. There is not a lot of seating, but we were able to find a table immediately and somehow it seemed that no one was wanting of a table. I am not sure if people went elsewhere or what but it all seemed to work out. My GF went off to sit at a table while I waited in line but I told her to let someone with food sit and we would hope for the best. She bemoaned my ridiculous nature and pointed at all the others people saving tables, but I stood firm in my stance for justice and we hoped for the best. I guess it paid off. The sandwiches here are large, superb, and a great value. Beats any sandwich in the park, although the cold one at Sunshine Seasons was pretty good too. Can’t recommend this place enough and wish there was one around here.

SPO – 9/10 Considering the hordes of people they moved fast, although ordering from one person, paying another person, and receiving your sandwich from two more people gets a little confusing.

HEC- 7/10 The only complaint is the relatively limited indoor seating. There were tons of people everywhere. I would not recommend proposing to anyone here as the romance is not really here.

QUAL- 10/10 Best sandwich by far and wish we could have returned. They should put one of these in Hollywood Studios and make it mandatory to eat to here.

VAL- 10/10 $5.75 for a large hot sandwich is less than your local subway and wayyyyy better.
If you’re at Downtown Disney you need to go here.
Big Jump from E-P but here we go.

Pecos Bill Day 3 Lunch 12pm I think

BBQ Pork Sandwich $7.59
Chili Cheese Fries $3.49
Large Drink $2.39

Pecos Bill was pretty good and our one foray into the world of hamburger dining. It’s a very popular restaurant and seemed like it had the most people saving tables without any food. We had to go way to the back of the “additional seating” but I think we got the best seat in the house because we were pleasantly outside under cover and could watch the people go by. Still people, why don’t you just sit down when you get your food and you’d be surprised how many tables open up. The BBQ Pork Sandwich was about what I was expecting. Decently sized, warm, pretty ok. This is just standard Disney fair, which is fine. The Chili cheese fries were ok too. Basically the queso cheese sauce that comes in the big jugs at Costco covering fries with a little chili mixed in. A fine value at $3.49. Not much to say about this, it just is what it is. As an aside, the Diet Coke was not mixed correctly here and tasted pretty bad. Also, when I was getting ketchup the guy before me said, “Push the button and run.” I wasn’t sure what he meant, but I pushed the button and the ketchup never stopped coming. I said the same thing to the guy behind me.

SPO – 8/10 A lot of people move through here speedily

HEC- 5/10 Probably the most unpleasant few minutes after getting our food. The place is dark, cramped, humid, and every table is taken by a 5 year old with 3 purses, 6 coats, and a double wide stroller. I would suggest following the additional seating arrow and see if you can sit outside where it is much more comfortable.

QUAL – 7/10 Just what I was expecting. Nothing special, standard Disney burger fair.

VAL – 9/10 Good amount of food for the money. The two of us were full from the one entrée and chili cheese fry side.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory – At our hotel POFQ Day 1 Dinner 530pm I think

Chicken Strips with Pasta Salad $6.69
Chicken Quesadillas $6.69
Refillable Mug $12.65

We ate here at our hotel for dinner the first night. It’s a pretty confusing area. There are four or five “stations” very close to each other. Some have a window saying “order here” others are just counters with big glass enclosures over the food. It took us about 10 minutes to figure out which way was up, but after that it went ok. There is a lot of seating with a television playing Disney type stuff on one side. There are plenty of serve yourself beverage options too including Sprite Zero and Coke Zero which made me happy. The chicken strips were standard but cooked to order and just fine. The pasta salad was not good however. It looks much better than it is and it’s only a small cup of it. The cheese quesadillas were actually very good with chunks of chicken and plenty of cheese. Better than your local Applebee’s and a larger portion. We thought we would order them again at a later date for a snack. I would recommend them for anyone looking for a safe bet here.

SPO- 4/10 I ordered chicken strips and was told it “would be a few minutes.” 7-8 minutes later they were ready nice and hot, but a longer wait than expected. The quesadillas were a similar wait. Then you have to get in line again to pay on your way out.

HEC- 2/10 on your first time. It is a very small space with a lot of different areas and options. If there are a lot of people it can get a little nuts. Easier after you understand what’s going on.

QUAL- 7?/10 Hard to say here. There is such a variety at the different stations it’s hard to give an overall rating. The chicken strips were hot and as expected and the quesadillas were very good. I couldn’t say how some of the more interesting items were here like the jambalaya. My GF wouldn’t let me get anywhere near that.

VAL- 8/10 Standard pricing on the chicken strips. The quesadillas were very good for the price and very filling. The mug makes it possible to have just one drink for the entire trip making it a good value even if it means you don’t have to wait in line to pay for another cup.

Sunshine Seasons – Day 6 Lunch 12pm Located in “The Land” at Epcot

Ham and Salami Sandwich $6.99
Two Entrée/2 Side Entrée Plate $9.99
Butterfinger Brownie $3.??
Chip Bag $1.25
(2) Fountain Drinks

This was our most expensive counter service meal other than Yorkshire where we ordered a couple $7 beers. The unofficial guide rated this an “A” for value with “Excellent” quality and the “future of Disney counter service.” Some lofty expectations. With Soarin’ and the watery ride and Circle of Life etc we expected this to be pretty crackin. It was busy, but there is plenty of seating. The sandwiches are pre-made I'm not sure how often and when I asked the gentlemen at the counter for the sandwich he pointed to one already wrapped up on top of the glass housing the sandwiches. I grabbed it and went to pick up drinks. I am not sure if you could get one custom made, but it did not seem like it. Still, the sandwich was very fresh. I was dismayed to find there was no large size to share. An extra $2 down the drain! I need my caffeine !@#$ A few minutes later my GF came over with the two entrée plate from the Asian counter and a butterfinger brownie. I shouldn’t have let her off her leash. Oh well I thought. 10 bucks is kind of pricey for the Asian plate. It was probably about as much food as you get at Panda Express for the 2 entrée plate. It was on par in regards to quality as well I thought. She did not care for the beef which I thought was good, but liked what I think was sweet and sour chicken. For sides she picked broccoli which was fresh and well cooked and rice which was fine. She said they made everything to order, but I did not see this with my own eyes. Overall it was good, but I wasn’t sure I was happy with the $28 price tag. We could have split the wrap at Cosmic Ray’s for $7.59, added chili, extra chips, and a large drink and been at about half of the price. Overall, I thought it was pricy but we did order a lot more food than at the other restaurants.

SPO- 8/10 The cashiers are wizards at knowing what you ordered. The lines at the stations move fast and the people working are knowledgeable about what they have to offer.

HEC- 7/10 It takes a minute to take everything in and decide what you want and there are a lot of people trying to do the same. If paying in one swoop you have to get your whole party together after going in many separate directions. GF slipped past me and found dessert.

QUAL- 8/10 Sandwich and Asian plate were good. I thought the Asian plate was better than Yakitori house if not $3 more, but the sandwich was not anywhere near the same ball park as Earl’s. Overall the quality was good, but did not live up to expectations found in the Unofficial Guide.

VAL- 6/10 Seemed expensive to me. No large drink, sandwich and Asian plate $2-3 overpriced. I might be a little hard here because of my expectations, but I would not rate this as value “A”

Toy Story Pizza Planet Day 1 Lunch and Day 7 Lunch

(2) Pepperoni Pizzas $6.09 * 2
Large Drink $2.39

We really enjoyed Pizza Planet and I think it’s the to-go place at Hollywood studios. The pizzas are a perfect size for just about anyone. They’re hot, the sauce is good, they have plenty of pepperoni, and they don’t forget the cheese. Service is pretty quick considering the pizzas come out of the oven and go directly to your plate which goes directly to your tray. The salads looked a bit small for $2.39 but I guess that’s the price you pay. We didn’t get any, but they have quite the pile of what I remember was Ken’s ranch dressing in case you opt for one. There’s limited outdoor seating, but I guess there’s seating upstairs? I was there twice but didn’t notice this. Considering that maybe my reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt haha.
SPO- 9/10 Limited options make the lines move fast. Pizza comes out of the oven and on to your plate. Can’t beat it.

HEC- 9/10 Not that popular of a place really. We sat on a bench the second time for lunch, but I guess there’s seating upstairs?

QUAL- 10/10 Beats your standard personal pan pizza at regular chain pizza joints.

VAL- 10/10 At 6 bucks the price is right. Try it!

Yakitori House Lunch Day 2 Epcot-Japan

We actually had reservations at Teppan Edo at 1230pm that day. Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve never made a dining reservation at Disney. Before you kill me though, this is the only one I’ve made. I’m cheap and we decided that the Yakitori House looked good enough to fulfill my GF’s need for her favorite food – rice. Before she said, “I just want to go somewhere where they have meat..that they cook in front of you..and give you rice.” This narrowed the list of restaurants considerably.

Tonosama Combination - teriyaki chicken thigh, sukiyaki beef, mixed vegetable tempura with shrimp and steamed rice $7.49
Sushi Tokyo Roll - avocado, cucumber, crab meat and smelt roe reverse rolled in sushi rice and seaweed $6.99
Large Drink $2.39

I went big here with the Tonosama Combo. 50 cents more than the shogun for the tempura thing. It was pretty good. You get a couple bites of chicken teriyaki, a good hunk of beef, rice, and whatever the tempura thing was. I’m not sure shrimp is the word I would use for what was in it but I think it was worth the extra 50 cents, whatever it might have been. The beef was good I thought but GF didn’t care for it. The teriyaki was also light and just fine. The Sushi was smaller than I was expecting but I guess it’s expensive generally. Not really my thing but she said it was filling. I had a bite and it tasted fine and reminded me of supermarket sushi. This was a nice light meal for Epcot considering the excessive walking necessary. There is not a lot of seating in back but it was not a particularly popular restaurant and we had no problem finding a table in the back.

SPO- 10/10 There really wasn’t anyone in front of us so we walked right up and ordered

HEC- 10/10 Wouldn’t make much sense to rate hectastity anything less at a Japanese garden right?

QUAL- 8/10 Pretty good food. I wasn’t taken aback by it at all, but it was a nice light meal. I would certainly recommend it if you’re in the area and looking for your rice fix.

VAL- 8/10 Not a lot of sushi, but I guess it’s expensive generally speaking. The teriyaki combo was plenty of food for one person. Still unsure of what that tempura was though.

Yorkshire Country Fish Shop Dinner Day 2

(2) Fish and Chips $7.99 * 2
(1) Harp Lager $7
(1) Bass Ale $7

It might not seem like I’m an alcoholic since this is my first mention of beer, but in reality I’m a cheap alcoholic and $7 a pop is enough to keep me away from alcohol. Nonetheless, my GF and I both tried the beer here because one’s enough to get her tipsy and it’s pretty funny to see. The fish was good. I’m not sure if it was authentic London good, but it was certainly about seven times better than the ABC at Hollywood. They had a very large pile of fish already fried, probably like 40+ pieces in a pile which was a little disconcerting. I thought they could have at least had the appearance of freshly fried a moment before. The fries were OK nothing special. Those tartar sauce packets sure are hard to get open though. Next time I’m going to have to bring scissors. As far as I could tell there was no place to sit down though and we ended up at a bench a ways toward France. Only at EPCOT right? Also, this was our first “star” sighting. Chris Kirkpatrick(or something like that?) from NSYNC was there my GF told me. I looked at him and he resembled more of an overweight leprechaun with a darker beard, but I took her word for it. The other “star” we saw was the lady from the travel channel was taping outside of Space Mountain about Fastpass.

SPO- 4/10. There were people in front of us but it did take a long time to move through the line. Also, the large pile of fish sitting there was odd.

HEC- 5/10 No seating as far as I could tell? We sat on a bench.

QUAL- 8/10 The fish was good and the fries were fine.

VAL- 9/10 Fish is expensive anywhere and $8 is about as much as it costs at our local Ivar’s (Seattle)

Raglan Road Bar-
Our third night was a Saturday and we went to Downtown Disney to check out shopping and such since there were no EMH. I didn’t really want to pay $50 for 2 passes to Pleasure Island since I wasn’t really looking to pick up any ladies so we ended up at the outside bar at Raglan Road. We both got a beer and sat outside listening to a very large very drunk girl talk about sex until it started to rain and we went inside. Raglan Road is kind of a weird place. They have the outside and inside bar as well as a band playing about 30 minutes on 30 minutes off. Once people sit down at their tables they never get up, even after finishing their meal because they want to listen to the music and have a generally good time. This makes the wait for anyone trying to get a table horrendously long. The couple we were standing next to in the bar area had been waiting for 90 minutes before they could get a table for 2. There are also a lot of people like us standing around drinking and listening to the music making this a particularly nonprivate eating experience. The beers on tap are $6.75 for 12oz glass and domestic bottles were $4.50 I think. It was a pretty enjoyable time and we spent about 2 hours at the bar listening to the band, socializing with people a lot older than us, and drinking overpriced 12oz beers. I would rate the experience positively and it would be a fun place for an older couple to have a beer or two in good company and listen to some fun music. Seating at the bar is scarce but there are plenty of people standing around. Had the weather been better we probably would have also spent some time outside.

That's about it..

I did not get dessert and Anandupar, but that mango pie does sound good...
