LA and Hollywood area during the Oscars?

I just realized that we are planning on being in LA, specifically Hollywood, during the Academy Awards weekend. In fact, my plan was Universal Studios on that Sunday. Is this a bad idea since we aren't into the whole "star-gazing" thing? Will crowds and traffic be more of a problem than normal?
Should we switch our touring plan to being in San Diego during that weekend instead of later in our trip?
Any thoughts? It is our first trip to CA.

The area around the Kodak Theater will by impassable on Sunday and very restricted on Saturday and Monday. But Universal Studios will be almost empty.

Just stay away from the Chinese Theater on Sunday and you'll be fine.

You should be fine going to Universal on Sunday. Avoid the Kodak theater area though. That area experiences heavy traffic everyday, I'm sure it will be awful during the Academy Awards time. Stick to the freeway and you will be fine. :)
