I was just reading this thread and saw post #4.
Do you find our food remarkable and that much different from the USA?

Very curious...

I can think of many restaurant meals in the USA that have outdone anything I can get locally. Not to say Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver (and other places too!) don't offer some excellent meals, but in my opinion, I've had far better in the US.

I'm not sure where the writer in the post you referred to got that idea. I would say we're very similar. Big cities are going to have more variety and different 'levels' of cuisine offered than small towns are. I've travelled extensively through the US, and I would not say their food is superior, but neither would I say ours is. They can be very different, depending on local tastes and specialties, but to say one is 'far superior' than the other is difficult, at best.

I find them pretty much the same.

I personally find food in the US "greasier" and "heavier" in my stomach. I've been all down the eastern seaboard, Michigan, Ohio, Louisiana and Colorado, so I'm not comparing just fast food in Buffalo. Colorado wasn't as bad as the rest.

We usually try to find restaurants we don't have at home.

As a family finding local places or chains while traveling is our goal, Ale House, Chevy's, Bahama Breeze, Sweet Tomatoes are some of our favorites.

Still looking for a great local pizza place around WDW. Been to Pizza Uno and Giordano's not bad but no Wow factor.

Also living it the Greater Toronto Area finding Asian cuisiner that is good as we have around here is almost next to impossible.

Not big fans of the boof-eh's that are over loaded with fried foods.

It's not that I find the food different----it's just that the restaurants serve too much of it. When they put that obscenely large portion in front of me, I lose my appetite. My husband and I now make a practice of sharing restaurant meals in the USA. In some cases, even the split meal is larger than I would normally eat.
In the years we have been doing this we have only encountered one restaurant that makes a service charge for doing so. We had no problem with that. We take a six week trip to the US every year so that is six weeks of eating in restaurants. If we weren't careful we would look like blimps when we got home.
I cannot understand why they insist on serving such large portions.

I agree with pps about all the fried foods and the large portions. I couldn't believe it last year at Sea World when they served pizza with fries on the side! To me, the pizza is enough. When I questioned that the pizza comes with fries, the server looked at me with an "of course" look! Also, the drinks at fast food places are huge, including the coffee! Who needs a litre of pop with their meal? I find it is more difficult to eat healthy at US restaurants.

When I read the post I immediatley thought about the food selection in the US at the grocery store! I think the selection is much better in the US. My DD is already talking about the smuckers Peanut Butter and jelly pre-made sanwiches she'll be taking to the parks and how they loved the dolly madison mini muffin bags. We don't get this stuff here and every now and then I make the trip to Target to pick some up as a treat!

They aren't fans of the US KD though - and they have alphaghetti for basically every kids show on TV - LOL!
