We have flights booked for late Feb. but might have to cancel. They are "Wanna get away" fares. They are non-refundable but can be applied to future travel. Does that mean we can cancel at any time up to takeoff and apply the fare to a future trip? Or is there a cutoff date when you can cancel?
Sorry if this has been asked before but I cant get the Search function to work, and Southwest isn't answering the phone.

Thanks,
Tony

I believe you don't need to cancel because it will automatically go to your credit acount if you don't show. However it would be the courteous thing to do by cancelling online (the same day if you like).

I would cancel the reservation as soon as you know. I don't know what they would do if you just didn't show up. We've cancelled a few days before the flight and it just moves into a credit. The credit is good for a year -- from the time that you booked the flight -- NOT from the date of the flight.

Thanks for the replies. Another question. The flights I'd be cancelling would be for DS21 and DD18, but I paid for them. Who would get the credit?

Thanks again,
tony

You would -- the credit stays with the reservation number so if you want to use it in the future you just type in the name on the reservation and the reservation number and it appears.

Tony, just to further what Fiona :wave2: said, as long as you have the name and confirmation number, anyone can use the unused travel credit. I've even seen people try to sell these on ebay for a bit of a discount, if they find they can't use them by the time they expire.

To use these credits, click "apply travel funds" on the payment page when making your next Southwest reservation, and enter both confirmation number and name. I believe you can use up to 2 travel credits per new reservation.

The confirmation number is the same one as the original flight. I always make a copy of the cancellation page for my records.
