computer at resorts?

Does any one have any expierence with bringing a laptop to the hotels? We are trying to figure out if it is worth going online to check e-mail and stuff or is there somewhere we can go to do it close by? Thanks guys

I've done it many, many times. It costs $.75 to make the call, then you can surf to your hearts content. Definitely less maney than paying by the hour in a business center. We've foudn taht we're usually so busy that we do'nt even bother with e-mail most of the time.

In the cheesecake factory at DisneyQuest there are computers set up at each little table. We went online to keep ourselves updated with certain things, but didn't care much about our emails. There was no charge to surf, but I believe some kind of a time limit. We had to keep re-connecting as our time kept running out.

We brought our laptop in January. Had no trouble logging on. And it was great to download my digital camera every night!!!

Be warned that a laptop must be completely removed from its case for airport security. Not a big deal just another little hassle! (but well worth the extra time IMO!)

Any chance that the deluxe resorts (especially the Poly) have high speed internet access in the rooms? Or is it just dial-up modem speed?

Where did you place the call from? The hotel room? Is it $.75 per minute? Sorry, I am not very computer literate.

You place the call from your room. The phone jacks have an extra empty jack you can use for your computer. You need to have a local Orlando number from your ISP you can use. Otherwise you'll have to pay long distance fees. I think some ISPs offer 800 numbers, but they charge extra for that, so you'll end up paying for it somehow.

At all WDW resorts, it cost $.75 to make a phone call, even a local one, so that's where the $.75 charge comes in. It's applied each time you dial in on your computer.

And no, none of the resorts have high speed access. You have to use a plain modem. But the good news is that you probably won't want to do much more than read email. There's so much to do at WDW that it's not like you'll want to play a game online. I guess if someone sends you a big attachment it could be a pain, but we're used to a cable modem at home and don't really mind having to use dial-up at WDW.

Bringing the laptop was great. We watched DVD's on the plane, were able to download our digital pictures each evening, and kept in touch with our families via email.... it was cheaper to only pay 75 cents than long distance, callingcard/cellphone etc. We would write a quick email and add a couple of digital pictures and send it out to everyone... it only took a few minutes....

Also, the woman watching our cats was able to keep us updated with things at home.

Not yet, but I wouldn't be suprised if it happens at a couple of them in the future...BWI would likely be the first as they seem to get the highest percentage of business tavelers.

If they are like most hotels who offer it, it will be at a premium price though of between $7.95 and $25.00 per day.

I have a computer at home and have seen those Web tv type things that you basically use for email and such. Could a person buy one of those and use it to get email at DW?
