I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find this little piece of info, what is the tax on meals at WDW? I have the DxDP and want to figure out what the tip would be since I'm planning and using most of them as TS.:thumbsup2 TIA :thumbsup2

From what I've read from others on the DIS, when you are given the final bill the receipt breaks it all down -- subtotal, tax, total. If you area on DxDP then that amount is covered as your TS. For the tip, others have stated that on the bottom of the receipt the computer already 'spits out' an 18% number and a 20% number. Now, there has been no mention of whether those numbers are based on the subtotal or the total (which would include the tip).
My DH just looks a the bottom number, which infuriates me -- especially at expensive places where the tax alone can be hefty. I don't need to tip on the tax. I tip on the subtotal, which from what I've ready in all the 'fancy manners books' is correct.
Anyway, long story short, your receipt will break it down for you so you can make your tip. The server will put your tip on your room or a credit card (that is what another poster stated) or you can leave cash.
Hope this helps. I'm sure others will post more based on actual experience but I didn't want this to go without some help.

Whether it is the suggested tip amount or the automatic amount....they are both calculated on the pre-tax amount of your meal.

Tax is 6.5% at almost all Disney Locations. There are a few resorts that are in a different county where the tax is 7%. However, on the DDP you will not be charged any tax. Also the tip is calculated on the food totals only, so you won't need to know the tax in order to calculate how much your tips will be.
As the PP says, the bill will show you suggested tip amounts for 18% and 20%. So long as your party is 5 or less you will be able to tip at your discretion. If your party is 6 or more you will have a mandatory minimum tip of 18% added to your bill.

Thank you all for your responses, I've got my answer. Back to the drawing board! Just want to keep the tip money separate and have enough. Thanks again.;)
