I just called GF to book a photo session, and the CM told me to call back 30 days before (thats when they book)
She also said that they were looking into other resorts to do the photo session at......So it looks like the GF will not be our only option if anyone is interested. :thumbsup2

$125.00
I asked the cast memeber what that includes she told me that it includes the sitting fee, rights to the cd for all the pic's that they take. She also told me that what ever photo pass potos you take before the session they can also add them to the cd..........WHICH IMO is the best value.
or
$50 for the sitting fee and then you purchase each photo.
I hope I expalined this right. you can call 407-824-1700they can tell you for sure

We did this back in September at the GF. Pictures are AWESOME!!!!!
And the photographer told me they are planning to do Polynesian Resort next but eventually go to other hotels, as the interest dictates.
I'm hoping to do it again in May...now just looking for the next discount code to get CD for $99.

If you get the $125 package and you get the right to all the pics on the CD, that mean that you can go to Wal Mart or Walgreens and print the pics out? Or is my thinking a little wonky? If you can then I will be adding a photo session for my DS's ( or maybe the whole family since we haven't had a family potrait done since DS9 could only have food from a baby bottle:lmao: ) on our upcoming trip. It'll be great if they add doing them at the Poly before our trip since we are going to be staying there.

The CM in September also told us they were planning on expanding to other resorts, namely the Poly!

You can pre-order the photopass CD for $99 online, bring a copy of the confirmation that you paid, and then you only have to pay $25 for the GF photo session. Bradk on the DIS has a great website that explains everything about photopass, including the GF session. I believe his website is Stitchkingdom.com. Hope this helps!

yeah... not really breaking news here, but always good for a reminder i guess.
Grand Floridian Photo Shoot - You can arrange for a private photo session with a Disney PhotoPass photographer at the Grand Floridian Resort. The session includes around 40 photos taken around the picturesque resort and its beach. Pricing is as follows: $49.95 for a Disney's PhotoPass card containing your photos which can then be added to your disneyphotopass.com account; $124.95 which will get you a PhotoCD with your images. If you choose to get the PhotoCD, you can save your receipt and CD and exchange it later on during your vacation for a new PhotoCD containing all of your Disney's PhotoPass images. The only catch is you won't be able to make enhancements to any of the photos; or bring the required proof that you pre-ordered the PhotoCD and the cost is only $25. Reports from guests who have participated in the photo sessions are overwhelmingly positive. Call 407-824-1700 to make reservations up to 30 days in advance or for additional information. These sessions may be extended to other deluxe level resorts in the future.

walmart's been reported to have been difficult (but not the self-serve kiosks where you just have to agree that you have the rights to reproduce the photo). hopefully that will adjust over time as more and more people bring it to their attention. on the CD itself, you have a copy of the release that you can print out and show to people.

Ok, I will have to try Walgreens when we get home from our trip then. I asked my DH last night and he said I could just use his souvenir money b/c he doesn't want any. He would rather have the pics of our boys. Now I just have to decide if it's going to be a full family shoot or just the boys. Right now I'm leaning towards just the boys.

OK, just remember you asked!! :lmao:
Here are some photos from our GF Photo Session. Remember I have cropped the photos close but you can crop vertical/horizontal, close or not to get the perfect photo for you. You can add a variety of effects (just like in regular photopass). I usually took the original photo, cropped it several ways, then saved them all, then made a duplicate with some of the effects (tink, Mickey, etc). So this way I have a great Disney souvenir but we could also use the photos w/o the effects for family cards, photos for our walls, etc).
I recommend doing kids, parents and family together. It's really only 20 minutes and goes by so quickly that even my 2 year old made it through.

Oh, great pictures!!! Thanks for sharing them!
SO...let me ask this....
Our friends are going to be there at the same time we are. We are planning on going together to pre order the photopass CD, then combining our cards and ordering after we get home. If we both want to do this photo shoot with our families, will we each have to pay only the $25, and still combine everything onto one later?
(Wow, does that make any sense?)
I am really excited about this! Wish I would have known about it last year!!
EDITED TO ADD:
Okay, now that I am thinking this thru and reading more...If you already have a photopass card from the parks, do the GF photogs just add these pics to your existing card? Its not a seperate card, neccesarily, right? Am I thinking straight here? Thanks!

Hopefully someone else can help with that...but unless they changed the policy, if you pre-purchase the PhotoPass CD then you get the GF photo session for FREE. I just had to show them my receipt (actually, not even that, they just asked if I bought it and I said yes and then they added it to my existing photopass cards).
I suppose you could have both families go together to save money but then you'll probably only have 10 minutes each. Or one family gets it free and the other family has to pay?
Remember if you want a picture of both families together, then you will all need to be there at one time.
I'm sure someone else can enlighten me if I've mis-spoken.

About how long did the photo session take?
The actual session takes about 20 minutes but they ask you to arrive early to prepare and stay a bit afterwards to make sure you all got some good pictures. So plan on at least 40 minutes.
We arrived about 25 minutes early, went to the restrooms to change, comb hair, put on makeup, etc and stayed about 5 minutes afterwards viewing our photos and having them transferred to our existing photopass card.

in case you weren't aware, you need to pre-order the PhotoCD to get it for $25. otherwise it's a minimum of $50. you need to bring proof of the pre-order and officially only one family per pre-order can get it for $25. so unless you do the experience together, one can get it for $25 and the other for $50 (unless you both have copies and try to get it for $25).

i've heard at least one case where the GF insisted on distributing a new card. even if this is the case, it's no big deal since the system can handle multiple cards.
Hopefully someone else can help with that...but unless they changed the policy, if you pre-purchase the PhotoPass CD then you get the GF photo session for FREE. it changed back in October I believe. http://www.stitchkingdom.com/photopass is as current as one can reasonably expect.

You can do this as a combined session, but your time limit stands as it is, so you should expect less photos per family. i'm not clear if you're buying the CD through the GF or online, but there are ways to get separate sessions (at a price) for the one PhotoCD.
as always, http://www.stitchkingdom.com/photopass for virtually everything PhotoPass. I wrote it for the benefit of folks like you, so trust me, it's worth checking out. one person who recently passed the link along said that she had realized she didn't know half the things PhotoPass offered.

What is the latest appointment time?I'm wondering the same thing -- and how long the session lasts. We have a 7:30 reservation for Victoria & Albert. Since we'll already be dressed to the nines for dinner, the pictures would be a nice touch. Also, I'm planning to pre-purchase the CD, so the $25 sitting fee is extremely reasonable.

I made our appoimnments this past weekend and I asked this same question because me & a friend are taking our girls, but want to go 1/2 and 1/2 on the CD. I asked if we did that, would we EACH get the $25 deal? and they said yes, so from what they said, yes you can do this.

Wo which resorts can you do this at? And where can I find out more information on this? I plan to pre-purchase the cd (note to self- so this today!) so if I bring proof that I pre-purchased, I can go with my PP card & they will only charge me $25 AND add all my photo session photos to my PP card? This sounds great!! Am I correct in this?

Oh bradk... I have gone to your site, many times and love it..
way better than the dis site... now that I have shmoozed.. (but it is true)
can you or someone answer me this ..
are things still the same... I think so.. but
last yr we pre ordered the cd with this we got
grand photo shoot (then free now $25)
all the pix's from the shoot added to a current photopass ID
my surf lesson photopass pix's
cinderellas castle lunch photos
Chef Mickey photos (which we BOUGHT OURSELVES seperately, so we added to the pass later)
allphotos taken by park photopass photog's
and the ability to edit ALL photos when we returned
is the the way it still works..
I'd like to prepurchase our CD, but can't... for some reason after our photos expired (way back in Nov) and disappeared..some reappeared.. so I think it won't let me have the pre order option.. since photos are already there
any suggestions on what I should/can do to preorder now? (for trip in Sept)

I'd love to do the shoot at Poly! we did the GF at Christmas and it was fantastic! we did the preorder cd, so the GF shoot was only $25 for us. a few of the pics are in my siggy.. they did awesome. not rushed at all.. she even showed me some tricks on my dslr camera:thumbsup2 I would definitley recommend to anyone thinking about it. It took us about 25 minutes or so to take our pics, but she spent probably around 45 min. total b/c we were talking etc.

i'm quite certain there are no restrictions on pre-ordering, but it's done through a special link, not the disneyphotopass.com login directly.
i have the link in the saving money section of my photopass page or you can google something like pre-order photopass cd and the direct link should come up.

This is so true - Walmart gave us a problem even at the self serve kiosks. We were printing wedding pictures that we bought the rights to and they wouldn't give us the pictures back after we printed them and tried to pay for them. My Dad (old skool NJ Italians :) )and DH (attorney) got vey angry at this. They totally and grossly misinterpret copyright laws. They just won't print anything if it "looks too professional". There was an article about this in USA Today , yesterday. Moral of the story is - go to CVS they are nice. lolol.
So I got a bit off topic..but...I'm going to call today, I wonder if they have anything open for our trip in March! princess:

Aww thank you :) I was incredibly happy w/our shoot! Once I got home, I went online and ordered a canvas that had a collage of around 7 different pictures on it:lovestruc , a personalized mug w/one of the pics on it, and a photo sculpture for myself and one as a gift for a DIS family we spent the holidays with. They were just awesome! I ended up w/94 pics after adding borders etc. to them. so, they probably took maybe 60 or so. I requested some taken in the hammocks, no problem. I requested some taken w/our "Christmas hats" on... again, they had no issues w/anything we wanted. I couldn't have been happier..and for $25... WELL worth it!

Walgreens and CVS printed our Photopass pictures, no problem. The only suggestion I have is that if you have pictures with a border added (like at MNSSHP) print it in a 5x7, like the photopass site does. The 4x6's cut off about a quarter of an inch of border and a little of the words at the bottom, depending on whether it was a vertical or horizontal picture. And, personally, I think CVS usually prints better quality pictures.
We did a photopass share on here, so didn't do a personal photo shoot.

Wow! Those are some great shots!:goodvibes Thanks for sharing them. (And thanks to Brad for putting together such a comprehensive site.) We preordered the CD and made our ressie for 5 pm for our upcoming stay. The phototgrapher did say that the later in the day, the better the lighting is. I think we'll be okay light-wise because of daylight savings time. We're really trying to get some good outdoor shots...especially beach shots.

Wow 60 pictures is great. So far I have been really impressed with everyone's pictures and I really hope we can do this on our trip. Thanks for the info. :)

Am I understanding this correctly?
My options would be
Pre-order the CD for $99, pay $25 at GF and then have all the pics together and then have to have my CD shipped to me (with the ability to add enhancements)
-or-
Pay $125 at the GF, take away the CD and then later get another CD with all the other PP pics and take the CD home from my trip (with no option to add enhancements)
So the cost will be the same, I just lose the option of adding enhancements.

I might be wrong, but I think it will cost more with the second option you mentioned because if you are still going to get the CD with the pp on them, then you have to pay another $125 on top of the CD you just bought at the GF photoshoot. With how you described doing it, the GF photoshoot CD is $125, and then if you are going to buy the PP CD later, that is another $125. Where if you pre-purchase the CD, you can have everything added for $99, and then just pay the GF $25. Is that right, or am I thinking wrong?

This is why I asked.....I thought I took it to mean that if I pay $125 at GF, get the CD, I can later turn in that CD and have the rest of the PP pics (and the GF pics) all put on one CD without paying again.
I dont do the enhancements (dates, etc) to the pics I print, so if I can leave WDW with my CD in hand for the same amount then that is the way I will go.

We did the GF photoshoot last Friday and are really pleased with the results. We arrived about 20 minutes before the scheduled time and our photographer was busy with another family. We showed another lady at the stand our confirmation/receipt, and she wrote up some kind of order form for us. We had to take this paper to the shop down the way and pay for it there. We then had to turn in our receipt to the photopass desk.
Our photographer was fantastic. We originally booked this to get a great beach shot of our kids, but our DS's best friend, my DSIL, and my two nephews came along too. The photographer spent a long time, (maybe 10 minutes,) taking beach shots of our DS and DD. Our reservation was for 5:00, which was the last time available when we called to arrange it. The sun was at a bad angle, so the kids had to shut their eyes and open them when she said "1,2,3!" We actually got some great shots! She said that the times now available lasted untill 10pm because of later sunsets and Daylight-savings-time, and that if we wanted to come back later and take more in better light, she wouldn't charge us. She had battery problems with her flash and had to go back inside to get another flash-thingy. (Technical, huh?:rotfl: ) By the time she returned, the sun was at a better angle and the rest of the photos were taken. She wound up taking some of both of our children, individual shots of both, shot with all four cousins, shots with my DSIL and nephews, shots of just my nephews, shots of my DS and his best friend, and solo shots of the best friend. She volunteered to take so many because there was no one booked for the rest of the night and it gave her something to do.:)
This was SO worth the money! It is without a doubt the best souvenir that we have ever had. We won't be creating our photopass account untill this weekend, but when we do, I'll share some pics. We've never uploaded pics on the Dis before, so we might need some help!
In short, if you are considering doing the photo shoot, I would go for it!:yay:

After some deliberation.. Info about Resort Photo sessions seems likes a thread best kept on the Resorts Board.. vs the Theme Parks board.
Thus.. this thread will now be found on the Resorts Board.

I don't think they have a limit of how many people. I've seen some done w/several people in the pics. The biggest thing is time. they only shoot typically for 20-25 minutes and that counts walking from site to site. they take quite a few quickly, we had well over a hundred just of the shoot and they took them where I asked as well.:cloud9: I really wanted the ones in the hammock. They took some of just ds and I alone, some dh and I alone and several of ds by himself...so I don't think they mind switching whoever is in the pics, but when time is up..you're done.
we had several people approach our photographer w/their photopass cards asking for their pics to be taken too! they told them it was a private shoot ;)

totally depends how many pics you want to be taken. I'd say you'd have enough time w/one slot, but for $25, I'd gladly pay for two just in case if I were very concerned. You do get a lot for your $:cloud9:

I agree to pay the extra $25 to get the extra time ... that way you won't feel rushed...
However, that said, if it involves children, I'd suggest trying to do all the shoots with the kids first (which requires a bit of coordination on which location to include the kids)...esp if you have young or very active kids.
My 26 month old was good for the first 15 or 20 minutes (smiles, laughter, looked at the camera) but when we tried to get the last set of pictures, this is what we ended up with ... still cute, but she was done and from there started running around and wouldn't sit still.

I just booked our session for 7pm on 4/30. We have dinner at 1900 Park Fare at 530pm so I hope we'll be done in time.
I hope to try this too. Except with my two (really 3 if you count DH) messy monkeys I think we better do pics first then eat to avoid pics with food on our clothes :rotfl2:
Everyones pictures look great. I'm getting tired of the same old portrait studio pictures of my DD's. They have never had "professional" shots outside so this should be fun. And we really need an updated family picture.

Did they say when they are taking reservations?
He said (referring to the Poly) to call on the 27th. That's the day he told me they would be opening, so maybe they're not taking advance reservations in case they run into complications. You might want to call and ask. We won't be there until May 27, so he may have just been saying that I, specifically, should call on April 27 to make an appointment. :confused3

The poly...by a mile!!:thumbsup2 I personally think that the vegetation at SS is very young and hasn't hade time to fill in. The vegetation at the Poly is rich and dense. Also, you can't go wrong with pics at the beach!

Thank you! It was really sunny that day and we had a hard time keeping our eyes open. It was impossible to get one of all of us looking. I have almost no pictures of the four of us! It's hard to keep the little ones still for pictures.

We only have one daughter and never think to take any of just us! We signed up for the photopass just for this reason, so we could have some pics of all of us
We have our res for GF for 5/12 at 6:30pm right before our Park Fare dinner. I hope the sun cooperates!

Britt and mom2zandjsquared - LOOOVE your pics!!! I am so excited to hear that they will be doing this at the Poly, we'll be back there in May 2009 and we're DEFINITELY doing this. We didn't do photopass last time, DH thought there was no need, but I ended up in a total of 2 (TWO!) photos of our trip -out of hundreds. We'll definitely be pre-purchasing the package and getting the photo shoot at the Poly. These would make great Christmas cards!

I don't recall the B&W feature as an option on Disney's photopass. Is this new? Did I just miss it? or did you make the B&W after you did the Disney edits?
Yes, for the first time (our Sept Trip), I actually have photos of the 3 or 5 (grandparents) of us together!!
Oh, and GASP!! even some of just my DH and I together!!! What a concept!!:rotfl:

We arrive at the Poly on 4/28. I called last week to ask about the Poly photo session, and was told to call back on 4/21, a week before we go. I'm really hoping I can get an actual appointment when I call; otherwise I'll have to take care of it when I get there. I did the GF session on my own last September; I can't wait to have my family involved this time. It couldn't get more convenient, since we're staying right at the Poly!:goodvibes

Our family picture is even older DD#1 who just turned 5 was about 9 months old at the time. And DD#2 who just turned 3 of course wasn't even a thought yet. I recently found some dresses on clearance at Target for my DD's to wear for these pictures. I tried them on the girls today. DD#1 announced she did not like the dress because there was no picture on it. I said it is for you to wear when we get our picture taken so it doesn't need a picture on it. She kept saying it and I finally said "you are going to be the picture" and I think she got it :lmao:

Are you taking Magical Express to the airport? They schedule your pickup for 3 hours before your flight. I would figure in at least an hour(maybe longer) if you are using Disney busses to get back and forth to GF from POR. I don't think you can go directly from POR to GF. You will need to transfer from DTD or one of the parks. If it were me, I would schedule an appointment no later than 3pm.

I do photography as a side business, so I'm kind of leery about getting this photoshoot done, although I just scheduled one. I am thinking that for the photoshoot, the photographers might be a bit better than just your average photopass person, since its something scheduled. I could be wrong though... but for $25, I will give it a go. Why not, right? :)

I think they changed the policy in October of last year. This way you can do borders, etc and before you couldn't if you already had the cd.

Yes, they are now charging you $25 if you show proof that you bought the CD.
I did this in Sept 07 when it was Free, too -- I just had to tell them I bought the CD (which I had). Even though it's $25, we plan to do it again!
As for whether the photographers are better at the GF than in the parks -- maybe?? I would approach this experience like anything in life -- you get what you pay for.
Don't get me wrong, we love our photos -- but there are definitely some that even I (so NOT a photographer but a scrapbooker) wouldn't have taken (we were in the shadows, the wind was blowing our hair into our eyes). So don't expect a high-end photography session. It's not -- and you aren't paying the price for it either!:goodvibes
However, you will get some good photos with your entire family, all dressed up (if you choose) in a great setting.

The easiest way to get there from another resort is to take a bus to the MK, then take the monorail or boat to the GF.

Great pictures everyone....we did this back at Christmas with a party of 15..
THEY HAD NO PROBLEM SPLITTING UP OUR SHOOT WITH SEPARATE FAMILY PICS! It's your time and if you are booked as a group, you can request whatever groups of people to be in the shot...it just takes time away from the 20 minutes the more you split it up....just my experience.
Here is a sample from our shoot....as you can see, we DID NOT coordinate very well...hard with many personalities but that is FAMILY and not worth the hassle...
Our Entire Group:

It'll be really nice to have photos taken of us together in the resort *** usually it ends up there's only one of us in the photo while the other takes it :) Everybody's photos look great and make me even more excited about booking!

I called today to ask about Poly ressies and was told that they are almost ready. They should be doing 2 weeks of cast member photos and then will open up to the public.
The first person I talked to gave me the # for the Poly Photopass but all I got was a fast busy signal. When I called back, they said it's not working yet but they should be ready to take ressies sometime next week or early May.
Darn -- I think we will just miss it. I'll keep calling and hoping!

I know before I ask this that the answer is probably going to be a no, but I'm hoping that it is not.
We are going to be at WDW in December. I know that you can have your kids picture made with Santa somewhere in the MK. If you do a photo session, is there anyway to request that some of the pictures be taken with Santa?

Just got off the phone with Disney Photopass and was told that they are putting the final touches on the Poly session. They should be up and running by the end of the week. They are not taking ressies yet, but I was told that anyone who arrives at WDW before they begin to take ressies should stop up at the Photopass kiosk that is located on the second floor of the main GCH at the Poly. He said that just walking up and making a reservation shouldn't be a problem, but have in mind a time you would like to have your pictures done.
The CM I talked to seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained everything about the process including pre-purchasing the Photo CD, getting pictures at BBB and more. He seemed very excited about having the photo session at the Poly and said that the test pictures have come out great.
Also, if it hasn't already been said, they have opened the Photopass shoot at Saratoga Springs.

Are you able to add borders etc, when you get home or do you have to get the cd there?
yes you add your borders at home, you have 30 days to do this. You can end up with double or triple the original number (or even more!)

Start by going here....
http://www.disneyphotopass.com/previsitcdplan.aspx
Once there click the pre-order photocd button and sign in to the photopass site or create an account, then just follow the directions for ordering the cd. They explain it well in the "How it Works" section on that very same page.
Basically you go to the site, pre-order the CD and save 20% and $25 off the price of the photo shoot, go to the parks and let the photopass photographers snap away, go home and log into the photopass site, enter your photopass card(s) numbers, view and edit the pictures, when your done send for the PhotoCD, enter the promotion code at check out that they sent you when you pre-ordered the CD. Then hope the postal service doesn't scratch, bend, break, sit on, lick, fondle or send your PhotoCD to a neighboring city, state, country or other planet. :thumbsup2

Thanks. I have been reading it was free then I read that it was $25 then I thought I had read where it was $50. Regardless I'm excited to do this! I haven't had my youngest son's pictures 'professionally' taken since he was about 18 months and he'll be three soon. :sad2: And DH & I haven't had any pictures professionally taken since our oldest was around 2 yrs old and he'll be seven soon.

You are correct on all counts....it was free for the first few weeks...then it is $50 sitting fee if you don't prepurchase the CD and it's $25 if you prepurchase the CD but make sure you bring a copy of your receipt for the prepurchase with you to show them when you are paying for your sitting fee.
I have some great pictures from this - I feel it's well worth the cost. I will be scheduling another photo shoot for our May trip!

From what I've heard you have to show your receipt where you pre-paid for the CD to get the $25 price, so as long as you have that, you'll be okay. If you don't pre-order the CD you can pay $50, and I'm guessing anyone can do that.

ok, I have a few questions that I don't think were answered. I scanned through the pages, but since the flu is going through our home, I could have missed the answers.
1. Do you have to wait until 180 days out to reserve a photo session?
2. I am planning on getting the photo pass CD as soon as we get that other tax refund. When you reserve a photo session, do you pay anything then, or is it all paid the day of the session?
3. Also, since I maybe wear makeup once or twice a year, I was going to go to one of the spas to get my hair and make-up done. Since we are staying at the Poly, I'm assuming the easiest one to get to would be at the GF. Has anyone had this done? If so, can you give me any advice on it. How far out can something like that be scheduled and do you pay in advance or once you get there?
Thank you in advance for any advice I can get on this. This will be the first family portait we have had done in the last 5 years, and I want it to be special.

Yes you can. I organized a photopass share over on the Budget Board last fall and did the photo session. Since I was the one who ordered the CD and had the receipt I only paid $25. But anyone in the group could have done a photo session and paid $50. All the photographers do is give you another photopass card with your session's photos on it and you add it to your group photopass account just as if these were photos taken in the park. No problem :thumbsup2 I plan on doing the same thing again this October (organizing a group to share the CD and do the photo session.)

I'm not positive, but I believe you pay when you get there.
DH gave me a massage at the GF a few years ago and he just booked it while we were there for the next day. I paid afterwards. I'm sure you could probably book in advance, but I'm not sure how far out. Here's a link to some info about the spa here on the DIS. It has the phone # to call for appointments so you could call and find out the answers to your questions.
Hope this helps!

You pay for the session when you check in (for the session.) They will write up a slip that you take to the hotel souvenir shop right down the hallway and pay for it there. Then you bring the receipt back to the check-in podium and they will get things ready to start the shoot.:)

I just had a Grand Floridain portrait session. GREAT Photos! The photographer we had told me that Family portraits are also now available at Saratoga Springs, and will start at the Polynesian on May 11. There is also now a central phone number for portrait reservations: 407-934-4004. Beach Club, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Wilderness Lodge will have a portrait desk later this year. The portrait session is free, if you buy your Photopass pictures on a CD for $125. What a deal.

The photo shoot is 20 minutes long. They take as many pictures as they can in 20 minutes. If you don't like the pictures, I guess you don't have to print them out. But surely out of all those pictures I'd think there'd be at least a few you'd like? If you're asking if you can get a refund if you don't like them, I wouldn't think so, because they're on your photopass CD with all the other photopass pictures you take during your vacation, so you'd lose them too.

Just booked our sitting at the Poly for May 28th!!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Yea!! I am soooo excited!!
We just got back and did the session at the GF last week. The setting is beautiful but I will say I was scared when our photographer informed us we were the first family he had ever photographed with kids. :scared1: I was able to look at our photos online and he got some good shots of the kids by themselves but I'm not sure we got a great shot of all five of us.
He definitely needed to pay attention to lighting. There were a couple of times during the session I was thinking, "How is this going to turn out?" because of the way were facing, the shadows, the sun, etc. If I had it to do over again I just would have politely suggested we face the other direction, etc.
I'm hoping to lighten some of the photos on our computer once I have the cd. Oh, and he had us pay after our session. I took my prepurchase receipt so the session was only $25 and I went and paid in the gift shop. He mentioned sessions will start at the Poly next week.

Just booked a sitting for SSR and one later during our trip for GF.
I am really excited about getting some shots with both me and Dh and our DDs - especially as this trip will mark our 5 year anniversary :-)
However - from all the reading I've done on this - I think it is important for those booking this to have **realistic** expectations of some good snapshots of your family - not portraits (there's a big difference there).
For those looking for "portraits", I believe Disney does in fact offer that service as well - but obviously at a much higher price.
We were lucky enough to find out about this new option when looking into booking a Disney Photographer - I did want some nice pics of the 4 of us - but it seemed "risky" not knowing how the girls were going to adapt to being on vacation - and given I didn't buy **ANYTHING** the last 2 times we took older DD to the photographer at home as she just wasn't "into" cooperating (2 years old!!)
Anyway - we booked 2 separate sessions on 2 separate days - figuring we are bound to get a few good shots out of that - and if they aren't cooperating one day, hopefully they will the next - or at the very least, DH and I may learn a few things to help them be more comfortable.
This seems like a great opportunity and something super to caputure memories from vacation - with your WHOLE FAMILY in the pics (a little less hurried and rushed than the Photopass in the parks), but I wouldn't want anyone to book this thinking it is a professional photography sesison - because it is not - and it is not inteded to be.

Agreed. While the pictures that have been posted are nice, they're obviously not what I would get from a pro photog. I think it's sooo worth it, though, to have some good shots of your entire vacation group in a unique (well, unique to the thousands upon thousands of Disney visitors  ) setting. With cropping and some photo editing of your own, though, the pics can look just as good as the pros!! We're thrilled to be doing the shoot!! :yay:

Thinking I might reserve a spot at the Poly too, and do both. THat way if my 2 year old doesnt cooperate one time, he might the other. Besides it doesnt take much time away from other things. Might be a nice break.

Not the poster you replied to but just wanted to say as many PP have mentioned they are not professional photographers so sometimes the pictures are hit or miss - a few of ours turned out blurry.

We decided on the spur of the moment to book a session for later in our trip after talking with the CM's at the GF's photopass booth- they were wonderful- and we are SO glad that we did it! What an amazing keepsake. My in laws have no idea we did this and they will LOVE the pictures.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary on this trip and since we had our wedding luncheon at the GF when we got married in 1999, it was especially meaningful for us to have pictures taken around the resort as we did not use Disney Weddings for our wedding (the ceremony was off-property) and so didn't have pictures taken professionally around the resort for our wedding, just snapshots here and there.
I would highly recommend the session and can't wait to do one at the poly with my whole family someday- just be careful what your expectations are going in. Especially if you have children.
I worked in a photo studio taking portraits before I became to ill to work and I found that the parents attitude set the tone in most cases for how the pictures came out. Unless you had child who was going to be afraid of the camera no matter what you did- then there wasn't a lot you could do but try to calm them (that was my specialty LOL) but if folks are glaring at their kids and telling them how to smile and such- then your pictures will not look relaxed, and the more relaxed you are in your pictures, the better they will come out.
I can tell just from looking at the pictures here that the ones that came out great- everyone was relaxed! It shows and you can't fake it!
With just the two of us- our photographer (who was awesome) took us all around and did what he called a lot of 'wedding' type poses- and we loved almost every single one of the pictures. I can't wait to make a bunch of prints from our cd.
Time of day and light does make a huge difference in how the pics come out (as does the sky being overcast as you can see from some of the pictures posted here- it effects the 'mood' of the photos in the end) but if you go in with an open mind, work with and really listen to what your photographer is telling you (I beg to differ from those who say that the folks who take these are not professionals. . . unless you get a real newbie or something, they know what they are doing at the GF booth!) Our pictures here are better than the professional ones I've seen for many weddings- including my own)
One thing to keep in mind too- artistically- if you wear clothing that compliments your surroundings and does not fight with it- the pictures will turn out much better. Also helps if people wear similiar or the same colors and above all, avoid competing patterns! It makes things look more polished if, say, dad isn't wearing a loud hawaiian shirt while mom and the girls or kids wear stripes/pastels, etc.
Solid colors- all in one or in complementary shades is what I recommended at the studio to my returning clients. They always thanked me when they saw the results.

This is such a weird question, but does anyone know if they can have a black and white photo shoot? All of the pics from the photo shoot i've seen are in color. They look great, but I'm really set on getting some good black and white photos to put in with my black and white graduation announcements.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you add the B&W feature to the pictures when editing them online?

Just thought of a question . . . some clothing advice please . . .
I'm thinking of having the kids in tan bottoms and solid orange tops (because they both happen to have them).:thumbsup2
What colour should my DH and I wear? I don't have anything orange right now and was looking for other options. I prefer black bottoms, but I am open for suggestions of what might look nice.
Any ideas?:confused3

I am super excited to start seeing photos of everyone trying out the new resorts. I have till August/Sept to decide which one I want to do.
Now about colors in the pictures. I am a black top, dark jeans sort of girl. Would this look ok or no? I do not do tan or white for various reasons. Thanks!

To go one further from YoCo's reply- I would say put everybody in the khaki's and white tops. It's worth buying a couple shirts for your kiddos to get the uniform look in the pictures.
That way your eye is drawn to your faces in the pictures and to the colors of the backgrounds- which if you're taking pics at the Grand will be a lot of green foliage- white building structures and bright flowers. My husband wore all black- and I wore a dress that is hard to describe but the dominant feature is vertical black ribbon striping- and our pictures came out amazing (sorry I didn't post them here, I'm wary of posting our pictures on the net).
If just the kids wear orange tops- your eyes will be drawn to those and they will compete with everything else.
One of the best family portraits I ever saw in the studio was done against a muslin curtain with all the family in denim shirts and pants. It came out so crisp and clean.
Try your best to get everybody matching or complimenting each other- even if only shirts as some shots won't show what you're wearing for pants. It really does make a big difference.
If you don't believe it try it out at home- just take a quick snap of the family in the shirts you wanted to wear then with everyone in the same color- then you can decide for yourself if you prefer the contrast or like a more streamlined look- as everyone has different tastes!

Has anyone done the pics during Christmas with all the decorations? I think it would be cool with indoor decorations at GF?

Ohh I didn't know that. I was told when I was booking them that you couldn't edit these photos
They told you that because the normal procedure is to take the photos at the photo shoot then for them to burn a CD for you there. When this happens you can no longer upload those photos to the photopass site and edit them. However, you can take the CD home and edit them with your own software. Now if you pre-order the PhotoCD they will just add the photos to your photopass card and then you can edit them on the photopass site. Also, you don't have to pre-order the PhotoCD in order for them to just add the photos to your card, just simply ask them about it when checking in for the photo shoot.
Now a word on editing the photos and getting a B&W image, brought to you by the geeky aspiring photographer in me....
Editing your photos on the photopass website has it's pros and cons. The pros are that you get to add Disney themed clipart, borders and effects that you can't get anywhere else. It's also a very user friendly way to do basic photo editing without needing software or the knowledge of how to use it. The con to that is that you are limited to basic cropping and B&W conversion. On the photopass site they are simply taking away the color and converting the image to grayscale, giving you the B&W appearance but losing the detail and punch that better editing can give you. The solution? Go have fun editing your photos and adding borders on the photopass site, then order the CD (pre-order or not) so you get the edited photos and the originals. Then edit them yourself with something like Photoshop Elements, or find your friendly neighborhood geek to help you edit them. You can spot your neighborhood geek by the pasty complexion and massive amounts of caffeine and junk food on or around them. They come in various ages, shapes and sizes. Ranging from the young pasty strange lad to the middle aged balding type like myself. If you use a geek, please provide us with Mountain Dew, coffee, chips, hot pockets or such depending on personal taste. Thank you.

On a side note, I just booked our photoshoot at the Poly for May 14th. Woohoo!:thumbsup2
I'll post back with pics of the shoot. I'll post originals, Photopass edited, and then Photoshop edited so everyone can get a good idea of what the pics from the Poly look like. With the background they have there the comps should be fabulous.
Also if you are staying at the Poly between now and May 10th, they are offering a free photo shoot for guests of the Poly. Don't know if they still have openings for this or not, but it was on their recording/hold/message thingy when calling the Poly photopass number. The number is 407-824-1163. :thumbsup2

I prefer Dt. Mt. Dew and Archer Farms Indulgence Snack mix! :)
I plan on editing some with the Disney graphics and will try to use all of the graphics at least once. I will then be using Photoshop once I get the CD to do the real editing and also to get the Disney graphics and use them as I need to.

I don't remember if I posted my pic on here or not...so I'll just post one. We went with complementing blue as our primary color.
I like this next picture -- not because it is absolutely perfect (it's not, we obviously have wrinkled clothes, DD not smiling and hair all over, etc) but because it really is us looking casual and relaxed. Since we knew our DD would be sitting between us for most of the shots, we did not go with the same blue color for fear that she'd be washed out against the blue of our shirts. And I think white wouldn't work as well with the white hammock, sand beach, etc.

That blue looks great!!! I love the look of white/khaki, but we did that with our beach pics in Myrtle in 2006 and probably will again this August. I'd like to do something different at the Poly. I know someone said Orange might stand out too much, but I'm thinking it might look nice with the lush landscaping of the Poly - if they do pics near all that. I've got plenty of time to decide - we'll be there 1 year from tomorrow!!!

Late Afternoon?
Anyone who has posted pictures, what time of day did you go?

Thank you to everyone who has posted ....... and especially those who have shared their photos!!! :goodvibes We are a family of 5 and plan to book a session at the GF during our week July 4th. I check this thread often for tips, etc.
We are planning the coordinating outfits right now. I am thinking the girls will be in white dresses, skirts, etc. with the boys in white collared shirts & khaki shorts. We have an afternoon tea planned at the GF for the girls & the boys are going to go golf, so I was thinking we would do the photo session first (before we're all hot & sweaty)! It will be July, so does anyone think 11:00/11:30 would be an okay time of day? :confused3
I'm also excited to know we will be able to get photos at SSR now! We have a family Christmas/NYE trip planned that will hopefully include my parents at SSR - our home resort! I would absolutely LOVE to be able to get family photos there!!! :lovestruc

We originally scheduled our time for the last session of the day, but they added more times for daylight-savings time after we booked. Our shoot took place about 1 1/2 hours before sunset, and it was very bright! Our DS wears glasses, and it was very difficult for him. The photographer actually had my children close their eyes and then she would say "123" (or something like that) and take their pics right when they opened their eyes. I would suggest getting a time slot about half and hour before sunset.
We're almost done editing our pics from our Easter trip, and when we get the CD back, I'll post some pics. Another good idea is to look at other pics from the shoot and just random portraits to get a good idea of poses that you may want to use. I wish that we had done that ahead of time!:rolleyes1

We did 11am and the sun was very bright!
I tried this time to get 6pm or later but the photographer talked me out of it. He said b/c we have a small child, he suggested we do morning again. So now we're doing 10am.

Marshay your pictures are so beautiful (so is your family!) in fact your posts were a huge reason that I wanted to get ours done on this trip! :) The blue is gorgeous and exactly what I was talking about with complimentary shades of the same color.
Sandym718- I commented on orange earlier but I think I misunderstood originally- I thought you were doing photos at the GF! If you're going for pics at the Poly (I don't know what backgrounds they're using yet) I think orange could turn out awesome! Like you said, the lush surroundings- the dense green can support brighter colors in your clothing and not appear to wash out like the whites and more muted colors of the GF backgrounds. Now I know too that white shirts etc can look a little washed out if you're going to take a lot of pics on the Grand's beach- I think it works better in the fountain/flower/grass pictures- but again like I recommended earlier best thing to do is have your family try on what you plan for them to wear and snap a quick pic to see if you like the looks of it- because everyone's taste is different and what some might consider 'classic' might be 'boring' to others!
I would LOVE to do a Poly photoshoot next time- I can't want to start seeing people's pictures!
Far as time of day- my eyes are extremely sensitive to light- and so when we booked they suggested early evening. We went with 5:30 (this was at the grand) and lighting for us was perfect. In fact, with a little help and a countdown from the photographer- I was able to actually get outdoor pictures with my eyes open- which are very rare! A couple times we missed lol but he worked really hard to help out.
I still cannot get over how well our pictures came out. DH took some to work for his desk and he has commented on them every single day since we got home. Definitely time, and money, well spent.

We just made a reservation for a Poly shoot on May 9th! I was excited but now I am stressed about our outfits. I loved Marshay's pictures so I was leaning toward a similar shade of blue, but am second guessing that now due to colors at the Poly vs GF?? Then I started considering white - thinking white looks nice on the two of us that are redheads -but we havent seen the sun much in months and are very pale! Anyone have any ideas for outfits cuz its driving me nuts??!!
Also we got an 8:30am time - is this going to be okay - sounds like most do them in the afternoon.
