I've booked a POLY session for May 17 at 6:30pm.

I was the OP with the orange shirts question . . . I'm stressed out about the outfits, too!

Thanks for the input about the orange shirts . . . I'm still not entirely sure what I will do.:confused3

I'm thinking orange will look fabulous!! I'm picturing bird of paradise orange.

So, you two that have sessions before me (and anyone else...mine is on the 28th), post your pics asap!! I wanna see them before we get ours done.

OK, I'm scheduled at the Poly for the end of our trip!!! We decided to go bold this year with RED!!! Yes, I'm going against the norm but thinking that they will also make a great Christmas Card picture this year...and besides, the last two years we did family photos in light green and then blue at the GF...need to go with something wild for the poly! :scared1:

It was your post about orange shirts that got me thinking...(but I'll also have a backup shirt, just in case...);)

Also we got an 8:30am time - is this going to be okay - sounds like most do them in the afternoon.

We are also going to try for an early morning time - and then have breakfast at 1900 Park Fare afterward (it's our checkout day). I'm hoping the sun won't be so bad then. Let us know how it works out.

I think the red will be gorgeous with all the Poly colors! And that thinking ahead to Christmas pictures is absolutely brilliant. I wish I could think that far ahead I still can't believe it's going to be Memorial Day before the month is out LOL

I'm still trying to decide what color of polo shirt we should all wear. We'll probably just wear jeans, so that we can go straight to the park. Also, we want a really casual look. I was thinking of having all the boys in one color and then me (the only girl) in another. Maybe a pink/blue combo (so far my least favorite), pink/kelly green, blue/kelly green (me in green), or red/green. I'm just glad I have until December to decide. I think I'm going to have a harder time picking what color of polos we're going o wear, than I did picking our ADR's :lmao:

What did you not like about them? What kind of work did your husband do to the pictures?

I have worked in photography industry for 7 yrs and I currently manage a photography studio, so I am going to be really really picky. I am just wondering if it will be worth it or not. We are definately doing the cd, but I am still leary.

[QUOTE=Lizzy Lemon;24735046]We had 70 pictures taken.
20 minutes.
We initially were not happy with ours but after cropping and DH touching up on our computer programme we were a lot happier. If the Poly is available on our next holiday we will do it again there.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

When we first saw the pics the framing didn't seem right, the internal photos were far too dark, you couldn't see the background very well at all, don't ask me what he did because I don't understand the process, but some programme on the computer can bring out the background when its very dark! The beach photos had all sorts of buildings etc popping out the top of our heads. Basically because you only have a short time to get a lot of pics there are compromises. Also the photographer spent an awful lot of time putting her camera on the tripod which took up valuable minutes IMO. We take an awful lot of photos and we are both very choosy in our composition. My DH's grandfather ran his own photographic studio/shop, his father is a keen photographer and its passed down to him and subsequently onto me. Our standards are probably just too high and our initial reaction was disappointment but we have the memories and they are priceless. We will be doing another shoot at the Poly next year if we can get in, will not have such high expectations next time.

Does anyone think Blue would look nice at the Poly? We celebrate Hanukkah and I thought that shades of blue on all of us would be nice but I am not certain how it will look with the darker backgrounds. I am hoping I can get DH to drive up one day to do the shoot.

I don't remember if I posted my pic on here or not...so I'll just post one. We went with complementing blue as our primary color.

I like this next picture -- not because it is absolutely perfect (it's not, we obviously have wrinkled clothes, DD not smiling and hair all over, etc) but because it really is us looking casual and relaxed. Since we knew our DD would be sitting between us for most of the shots, we did not go with the same blue color for fear that she'd be washed out against the blue of our shirts. And I think white wouldn't work as well with the white hammock, sand beach, etc.

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s250/memch/WDW%20Sept%202007/109_109_109.jpg

I can't wait to see the pics from the Poly!

Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2 The blue of your shirts and your daughter's dress work well together. I liked the slight contrast between the adults and child. You DD did not blend in as she might have with the exact blue shirt.

I agree matching/coordinating outfits are the way to go! :cool2: Thanks to all for sharing! I like the idea of either white tops or red tops with khaki or blue jeans look as well.:dance3:

We have decided to go with demin bottoms, probably shorts. Then the boys, DH, DS-11 and DS-3 will wear chocolate brown and the girls, me, DD-9 and the new baby will wear a pinkish. We are planning our shoot for 10/28 at the Poly.

Sorry if this has already been addressed......

Can I schedule this for the week BEFORE we are moving to Disney property? I already have my photopass bought but our "Disney" days are much more filled with touring than our Seaworld days.....plus I have the day before we check in as a "free" day.

Oh this thread is so fabulous! Thanks everyone for posting photos! Going in December this year & DH's sis & family will be there a few days w/us too! We're all going to do this! DH & I usually travel alone so we take a lot of "self portraits" so we love photo pass, but it will be really nice to have some non-park photos too! Sis-in-law is excited for a family portrait too! Now...to think of colors....jeez...good thing we've got a while!!

Can't wait to see other photos from Poly & SSR!!

I talked to the CM at Poly when I made my reservations today and he stated that "Any photopass photos you have taken prior to the shoot may be added to the cd at no extra cost. You may also use the photo passes after your photo shoot in the park and bring your ticket back to them with your reciept and they will also add them as well." This is what sweetens the deal IMO. Hope that helps.

As far as I know, you aren't required to stay on property to do the photo shoot, so you could book whatever day is best for you.

The actual photo shoot is 20 minutes and they told me to allow 45 minutes to an hour total.

You have to order the pictures through them - they will be on a CD and it has a waiver? on it that gives you the right to print the pictures anywhere you want.

I though you could just have them scan your photopass and order the CD when you get home? That's what I was planning on doing. It seems like a lot of trouble to have to go back again.

I just called and spoke with someone at the Poly. They told me that the photos will be added right to our photopass photos. I also asked their opinion on what color shirts we should wear. Her suggestion was to wear something Hawaiian. My dh is a jean and t-shirt kind of guy and I can't picture him in a hawaiian shirt. I asked about white and she said it might not be a good idea because of the pictures taken on the sand. What is your opinion?

Now I'm a little worried. We leave tomorrow and our photo shoot is on Friday. We got the exact opposite advice. Our photog said not to wear Hawaiian shirts because they are busy. She suggested solids and even recommended we go with white - which I was planning on.

9.5 times out of 10, solids look better than prints and patterns. Stick with your original choice. :thumbsup2

White should be fine and what we are going to do. My family and all of my in-laws had our pictures made on our local beach a few years ago which has sugar white beach sand. We all wore white shirts and jeans and the pictures turned out great.

Please post them when you get them... We are going in Dec and I was thinking of doing this too for Christmas cards. I'd love to see how they turn out.
I booked our GF photo shoot for 5p.m. on 5-22!!
Our shirts also came in that I ordered from Disneyshopping too!
I ordered the white polo's with black embroidered mickey for DS & DH, and pink polo with black tinkerbell embroidered for me.
We're going to look so precious! LOL! :rotfl2:
Great idea - matching Mickey Polos!!
If you pre-ordered the CD then it will cost you $25. Just make sure you bring proof that you pre-ordered the CD.:thumbsup2
Does anyone know the answer to this? I will be sharing a pre-ordered photopass cd with two other families that will be there at the same time. however we don't plan to follow the same itinarary. Can we all get seperat photo sessions? Can I make a copy of the Reciept so we each have proof ?

I almost bought the Mickey Polos last night when I was ordering some other stuff but sadly my shopping cart simply became too full lol so I moved them to my wishlist.

I was thinking of just plain Polos which I am sure will be less than the 17.99 each they are at Disneyshopping. Just trying to decide if a color other than white will look good. I always seem to have our "matching" shirts be in a white. I was looking at the light blue because of the poster above that had photos done with them but I am not sure they will look good with our complexions.......

Anxiously awaiting more photos to be posted.

I am pretty new, and had a few questions. SSR is our home resort and I would love to have some family photos on their grounds.
1. Have they started doing the photoshoots at SSR yet?
2. Where do I call to make a reservation for a shoot at SSR
3. Does anyone have any SSR photoshoot photos to post

Thanks in advance for any help

I would be 99.99% certain that the intent is 1 resort photoshoot per Photopass CD pre-order. The Photopass accounts are not intended to be shared among groups, even though lots of people do it.

That doesn't mean you can't make it happen somehow, but I don't think Disney's intent was to give 5 families (just a made up number) a free private Photopass session for the $99 CD purchase.

so much for Ivory Snow (99.99%). I was there on May 3, 2008 and they told me I could book more than one session; however, the first one was $25 but the next one would be full price ($50). (I'm rounding up here.) So YES, YOU CAN DO IT.

Now that you have two pieces of conflicting information, why not call the photography center directly to verify the information I provided and post it back here for us all to read the May 15 version?

I did the Poly shoot and am still editing my photos on Photopass so I won't have them to show you anytime soon. (not sure how to pull them off before getting the CD...)

Anyway, my thoughts on the poly

1) I was disappointed in the backgrounds our Photographer chose. We had only one indoor scene with all beautiful flowers but not the water. He started to take one with the waterfalls but someone else was there so he moved on and we never went back.

2) We then went outside by the rental boats and got some photos there. They were good but DD did not cooperate (I can't blame that on them).

3) Our session was 10am and the photographer did about 85% on the beach. However, the sun was bad (too bright) so nearly all of our pics are squinting or someone has their eyes closed. I only have 1, maybe 2, photos good enough to use from the beach. VERY disappointed.

4) Then the photographer said we were done. WHAT???!!!

When you go to the photopass desk, there are all these super gorgeous photos with the flowers and plants and some cool shots in the hammocks on the beach -- we didn't get any of them.

Our best shot is one of DH and I on either side of one of the palm trees. This is a cool shot. Our 2nd best one is of the 3 of us playing in the sand but we are laughing and it's cute but you can see our tonsils! :rotfl2: OK, maybe not that bad but we have these big wide open mouths ...

MY ADVICE --

You need to know what types of photos you want in advance. Don't rely on the photographer to choose the photos for you. He had us running down the beach (nothing like seeing our flabby arms and legs in the pics! :scared1: ) IMHO he wasted about 15 pics of us doing this.

I should have spoken up and just told him right from the beginning that the beach was not a good option on a very bright sunny day. This happened to us at the Grand Floridian when we were scheduled for 11:30am....now I know -- no beach photos on sunny days before 5pm.

I'm sure the same photos at dusk would have been brilliant.

Also, our photographer wasn't really child-friendly. He was there to take the photos but didn't really do anything to make sure my 33 month old was looking at him.

All that said, I'm still glad we did the photo-session...I will go back and crop the photos to make them better (i.e, cut out the person on the end who had their eyes closed).

I have one super photo for $25 which isn't bad at all and I never would have thought of doing the hands around the palm tree with my DH. I was just hoping for more good photos and much more of the beautiful flowers in the lobby, around the pool and maybe the entryway...

I have to say I agree with you. We did a photoshoot at the GF, and it seemed very rushed, and definatly not the 30some pictures others were talking about. We did a few shots of the beach, and a few shots near a flower garden, but that was it. None inside. I would have liked the hammock shot on the beach, but instead he took a lot of pictures of my dd playing in the sand. If I would have known that those were going to be a majority of our pictures I would have spoken up. We really only did four family shots, which was why I scheduled the appt. I ran around afterwords with my own camera taking pics of what I wanted. I should have just spoken up!! I guess I didn't expect our shoot to be over as soon as it was. We actually got a great shot taken by someone who was staying at the GF who offered to take our picture with our camera. I think that was actually my favorite picture out of all of them. Also our person wasn't very child friendly either. He didn't really know how to get our two little ones attention. We did get some cute pics, but I don't know that we will be doing it again. I'm sure the experience has to do with the person you get though. I've seen several people on here love their session, so don't back out just because of my review. Just learn from me and speak up. Tell them from the start where you want your pics, and maybe even walk around ahead of time so you know of some spots.

Oh, and the thing that urked us the most was that after we were rushed around with very few photos taken..he went on to say that his next appt wasn't for another three hours and how he was going to have some time to kill. The way we were running around you would have thought it was back to back appts and he was behind or something.

Hey everyone! I was just cruising the boards and came across this beautiful family who posted some photopass pics from Poly. I'm not sure if the below link will get you there, but the title is "just back from Poly...". By the time I get this info out, the OP may have already posted here.

Just back yesterday from a great Disney Vacation!!!

We signed up for the Poly photo session for Friday (5/9/08) at 9:00 am. They called the night before to confirm and to let us know to get there 15 minutes early. We got there right around 8:45 and our photographer pretty much got us started right away. And the bonus - we got the photo session for FREE!!! Not sure why, maybe a Dream thing? Or, there was some confusion at first that I might be for part of a cast member preview, so maybe it was just a human error and it was mismarked that I didn't need to pay. Who knows? I was happy to save the $25, but would have more then gladly paid it after seeing our pictures.

Not sure how long our shoot was. We started a little early and never felt rushed. We had one setup inside, one out front, two by the bubbling river, one by the tree, one on the hammocks, one on the swings, then some of my son playing on the beach (8 setups, 36 pictures total). I did ask to get one by the marina if the sails were up on the boats and we did go by there, but alas, the sails were all down so didn't think the backround would be that great. Overall, I am very please with the pictures we got. I wish we had a shot with more of the overall Polynesian visable as most are closeups with foliage and waterfalls in the backround and then there is one set up with the contemporary seen from afar.

I would definately say, go in with at least a location or two of what you want in the background, this will probably become easier to do as people begin posting their pictures. I pretty much let the photographer dictate where we went, and they were very nice spots, but looking back there would be a few I would have done differently (ie turning around the direction of the "contemporary shot" so we had the poly in the background instead, skipping the hammock shot on our stomachs, just didn't work for us). They had a sample book set up too by the photopass stand which I didn't get a chance to look through, but there would probably be great ideas in there.

My time of 9:00 am was okay, I guess, lighting wise (which was one of the things I was concerned about). But it was still very difficult for my 2 1/2 year old to not be really squinty (or eyes shut) especially around the beach. Not sure how to solve that problem, I think its always bright at Disneyworld.

I thought our photographer was pretty good with our son, so I think that is luck of the draw.

I'll post pictures when I get my cd. If you have any questions let me know.

Sorry so long, but also wanted to mention that our photographer said that they would be adding Beach Club shortly to the list of spots for the photo sessions and then Wilderness Lodge was on the list for the not to distant future. He might have mentioned another resort or two as well, but I was running after my son, so missed some of the conversation.

My CD is on the way, I should be able to post the pics from our shoot next week!! Our shoot went really well, considering DS didn't really want to cooperate. Most of the pics she got of him were candids, snapped really quick while he was acting up. Actually, those came out much better than the posed ones, as they really showed his personality much better! I can't wait to see them!

I had been so excited about the Poly photo shoot, but after seeing the photos posted from there, I'm rethinking it. While the photos are beautiful, and the family is too :) , I feel like the shots could have been taken "anywhere". There aren't many, if any, that look distinctly like you are at the Polynesian to me. The photos I've seen from the GF do look like you are there. You can see the GF resort in the background, see the Poly in the background of some beach shots..even the inside shots I can recognize where they were taken. I make my reservation next Thursday, and hope to see some other Poly photos before then, but I'm really leaning back to GF now.

so much for Ivory Snow (99.99%).

Just wanted to say I don't take any exception to this (and I shouldn't have called it free, I forgot it was $25) -- that sounds right to me - the one with the Photopass purchase is $25, any others are $50 which is the regular price if you don't prepurchase the Photopass. I was just trying to say I don't think Disney intended to give the discounted price to multiple groups using the same Photopass. So apparently, that's the case.

My thoughts on photopass portraits at the poly

As background info, you should know that we could only squeeze in a 6:30 photo shoot with our 6:40 dinner ressie at the Kona so we didn’t have much time for the photos. To complicate matters, the photographer had to deal with a client issue which cut into our time as well. Once he had that straightened out, he focused solely on us. I told him about our short time frame plus the fact that we had 16 people – one with disabilities that would necessitate us staying as close to the building as possible. So he said he’d take us to the nearest grass/foliage and that’s what he did. In 10 minutes time he shot about 60 photos of various combination of groups! Amazing. Then everyone headed back inside except DH & I who headed for the beach. He sat us on the swing and had us look back over our shoulder for some poses.

Re background scenery, I can’t say that I was disappointed with the background as we were constrained by time and disabilities. I do believe he didn’t consider an indoor scene since there was such a large group and so many tourists wandering around inside; besides the lighting was great for outside pix!

I informed him of our table ressie at Kona and he assured me that he knew the manager and it would be ok if we were a little late. I said – but there’s 16 of us and that could really throw their schedule off for the rest of the night. As it turned out, Kona wasn’t ready for us before 7 so everything went off without a hitch.

Since we were shooting at 645pm, the bright sun wasn’t a problem for us.

The photographer shot 75 photos (not hard when you’re a group of 16 I guess). We are thrilled with our session and just finished cropping the photos to get even more great shots out of our group shots!

MY ADVICE –

1)know what types of photos you want in advance – I agree; I knew I wanted various family groups together. I did not “stage” the photos in any specific area. (Having seen all the GF shots, I had an idea what I’d want at that location but I hadn’t seen any shots from the Poly.)

2)Think about coordinating outfits – with a group of 16 I didn’t even try.

3)Try to get a late afternoon/early evening appointment to eliminate squinting due to bright sunlight.

4)Look at all the photos you get to see before burning the CD to see if you can create even more shots – for instance, if there’s a photo of a group of 4, would it be possible to crop some of the folks out and make multiple pix that way. I did this with our best shots and it really stretched the number of photos we got.

I'll post a few when I receive the CD (which has been ordered, finally). My 110+ shots became 700 photos once I did some cropping to make multiple pix plus added borders and b&w prints w/borders.

I was wondering whether I should have tipped the photographer? I went back and forth in my mind and ended up with thinking that since he was a professional, he doesn't get a tip. What do you all think?

Also, he seemed thrilled that I had a group of 16 so it made me wonder if perhaps he gets a commission for each photo we order? (If so, he'd probably be disappointed in us ordering the CD... although we did order a few prints besides because we wanted them sooner rather than later.)

anyone know the answers to these questions?

Good question! I don't know either. I didn't even think of tipping him and I didn't see anyone else doing that either. I just assumed that we should not since Disney is covering their salary as professionals. Also, I was a bit disappointed at the time with our session.

Now that I've gone through my photos and edited and cropped, I like our shoot much better. I thought I only had 2 good shots but I got about 5 or 6 really good ones that I'd be proud to post...and others that will be fine for the scrapbook.

I asked about this and our photographer said no they can't get the castle in the background with their standard lens equipment they use and besides, it would not really show up on the photo since it is so far away -- it would look too tiny.

We had a photoshoot at the GF on 5/13 and did tip the photographer. Our photographer was great with the kids and got some really great shots. It might not be considered a "tipped" position but some don't consider Mousekeeping as a "tipped" position either yet we always tip them too.

Hi Everyone, we did our photo session at the GF and I was so disappointed about me wearing such a busy shirt, it made me look horrible, but I loved the color of my son’s shirt so bright. I wish I was better coordinated. The photographer took almost 55 pics and out of them I liked about 5. I will try and post more when I get home tonight. So you can see so different posses. She really was very created I was happy with the posses, but I wasn’t happy with myself LOL. When we head back to the world in July I’m going to arrange photo shot at the poly, but I would like to see so posses and the back rounds from there.

What wonderful pictures for both of you! Now I know DS and I will do it in August. Really hoping maybe they open up AKL by then!

29Apr00 - I love the matching shirts as well! Now I am wondering if I should do that for DS and I. ... hmmmm another thing to think about. I have made the shirts, just didn't plan on wearing them to the photoshoot! Your children are just adorable, and what wonderful pictures to treasure!

mickeymyfavorite - Love yours as well! It is so nice to see a Mom & Son example. You both really look great and your son is very handsome!

Ok here are some pic's from the photo session. I'm very sorry but I don't know how to make the pictures smaller.

Great pics!! I can't believe you got a 13 year old boy to take portraits!! I have 13 and 14 year old cousins, and it's like pulling teeth to get them to take a family photo without sticking their tongues out or crossing their eyes. :upsidedow Way to go, mom!! I especially liked seeing your pictures because our families have similar complexions (we're Native American, and I'm half Samoan, as well), and I have yet to see that on this thread. Now I know, although I had an inkling, that we won't blend into the sand like some people mentioned. ;) Thanks for posting!!

They did
1) Inside waterfalls
2) Outside near boats
3) Outside with blue flowers (twice)
4) Outside with palm tree
5) Walking along the beach
6) Running along the beach
7) Playing in the sand
8) On the swing
9) Outside with hibiscus

If we do it again, I will say to skip #5 and #6 and do some more with the flowers inside or out. I'd also like to go to the dock to get some water shots there.

I'm pleased with our photos now that I have edited them...and will probably do it again (maybe at AK when they open up there). However, next time I'm going to scout out the resort for some good spots and not just rely on the photographer.

Love the laughing pic, too!!

I agree with you about the beach pics. Not that your family doesn't look lovely, but the composition just isn't good.

The red looks GREAT in the waterfall pictures!! Good choice!

Also, a lot of my favorite pics of my little ones are when they're not paying attention to the camera at all. Granted, I would like them to smile for the birdie once in a while. DS is into his fake smile for pictures now. Let's hope we can get out of that phase by our Poly session next Wednesday. Haha!!

Hi Marshay,
Thanks for posting your POly pics - your family is so cute and photogenic! You have definitely sold me on the red shirts and IMHO the waterfall pic inside is the best. At least I feel I am a little more prepared for what to tell the photographer what poses I want in August. Can I ask though - what time was your appointment?
Thanks!

If you buy the CD ahead of time it'll cost you $25. If you don't it'll cost $50.

For those in a photopass share who pre-purchased the CD, it may cost you either $25 or $50, depending if someone in your group went before you. But really this is all at the discretion of the person taking your money.

My cashier barely looked at my receipt...however Disney could start to track individual photo sessions to individual receipts and just charge the first person $25 and the others $50.

I don't recall anyone in a photopass share doing the session and reporting back to us what really happened...all just speculation. Someone called Disney up to ask about it but not sure if more than one person in the same photoshare did it yet...

Thanks for the compliments! I really think the red tied it all together and agree that getting more indoor photos would be good.

Our appointment was 10am and the sun was already really bright. Near the end my DH said he was done b/c the sun was too hard on his eyes.

I wanted to go at dusk (7pm) but the last time they had was 5:30pm and that didn't work for us.

Thanks! Good question -- not sure...

The other new PhotoPass thing they are doing is having "roving photographers" in the park. These are the same Disney Photographers in the park but they are allowed to move around a bit.

We met two of them in Mexico and our guy took pics of us in front of the Mexican temple and then suggested that we try on the sombrero hats outside and took pics of us near the water.

There was another guy taking pics in the foilage/plants to the right of Mexico (so it was only a bunch of green plants in the background).

They said they are starting to add more "roving photographers" throughout the parks but Mexico is the only place I saw them.

They had the roving photographers in Disneyland and in California Adventure last year but instead of a CD they put the pictures on linhe with an option to buy. I hope they have changed to the CD at DL because the price isn't bad and the pictures are kind of fun.

Yeah, my DD has never been "in tune" with the camera. Only recently we have been able to get her to really smile.

I consider the photopass a learning experience. Previously I'd only gone for light blue or light green before...now I'm not afraid to wear a bold color!

I think your shirt is fine since it's not bright patterns and the eye really goes to your son's shirt. And personally, I really love seeing the picture of a mom with her teenage son -- what a blessing!

Hope this helps you all thinking about photos at the Poly. I'll post some different shots taken at the Poly in early May between 6:30-7pm. (The shots on the beach were taken closer to 7pm.) I'll start with the large group shots - FORGET about coordinating colors - I was lucky just to get 16 out of 20 of them in the same place at the same time! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (I did coordinate my sandals with my blouse... perhaps that counts for something!)

As I mentioned before, we were running very short on time b'c of the photographer having to handle another client's "situation" and an upcoming dinner ressie at the Kona 10 minutes after our shoot was scheduled to start! :scared1: Plus, I told the photographer we wouldn't be able to go far off the beaten path b'c of one person's disability and I didn't want them left out of the photo shoot. So, the photographer said, "ok, we've just gotta find some grass. Let's get everyone on the grass as quickly as possible." In less than 20 minutes time, we had about 75 photos from which to choose! :thumbsup2 Granted, they're not the best compositions as far as posing is concerned given the choices at the Poly, but, considering what the photographer had to work with, I am very pleased with the results.

You get about 20 minutes -- you can use your 20 minutes however you want. Maybe you can do pics of the rest of the family while she changes, to maximize the time.

Just remember while she is walking to the bathroom, changing, re-doing her hair & makeup and walking back, your clock is ticking.

You may want to book two sessions (you have to pay for both) to make sure you have enough time...

I just wanted to add about the "roving photographers." I saw them at several locations around World Showcase early last week. One got us playing at one of the Flower & Garden Festival playgrounds and we also had some pictures taken in front of the fountain in France. I also saw the one photographer again the next day at the drums in the Outpost area. So they are definately around.

When I get around to editing and get my CD ordered I'll post some pictures of those as well if y'all are interested. I need to get going on the editing thing. (I have 239 photopass pics to go through from our 9 day trip, so procrastinating a bit, but want to add boarders, crop and make some black & white.)

Marshay, I really like your Poly pics. I wish we had a few of your poses. I just felt a little clueless going in (this was our first session), so really left it up to the photographer. I had asked for a pic by the marina if the sails were up on the boats, but they weren't so we skipped it, but I really like your pic that is there with no sails. Oh well. We'll definately go again, and this time I'll be more prepared for what I want.

Just had pics done at the Poly on 5/20. I'll post some later but thought I'd write about my GREAT experience.

When we arrived, our photographer, Barry, asked us what we were expecting in our photo shoot. My group consisted of 3 of us (my sister, my best friend, and me). We explained that we wanted some shots of the 3 of us, some shots of my sister and me, some shots of my best friend and me, and just a few individual shots.

After that, we headed to the main lobby and took a set of pictures in front of the waterfall. We then took a few pictures outside on the main entrance walkway in front of the waterfall. The remainder of our pictures were outside, on the bridge area near the pool, on the lounge chairs on the beach, in a hammock, and on the hill next to the beach area. Our session ended up lasting nearly 45 minutes from start to finish (we had only booked for 1-20 minute session). Our pictures are really amazing. We are super-pleased with them! (As soon as I get my CD, I'll post them!)

It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

I got a call yesterday from PhotoPass. They scheduled a photographers meeting during our sitting tomorrow. He rescheduled me for an hour later, but said the rest of the evening was open. Hopefully it will still be, and we can get the most out of a non-rushed photog. And maybe they'll teach them some fabulous camera tricks. Haha!!

I am really hoping for a WL shoot before we go in July. I have already talked DH into it. I am trying to plan outfits and everything. I don't want to seem negative since so many people like the photo sessions, but the photos I have seen posted seem just like those that are candid shots that anyone's camera could take. What is special about the photo session ones?

I LOVE having professional photos taken of our family, but these just don't seem to be of that same standard. Am I missing something?

sandym718
05-27-2008, 04:02 PM
I guess to me, they seem like an "in-between" - that is, usually a little better than just anyone could take, but definitely not Professional quality either (and not at Professional price, either, by a long shot!!).
I think it's a nice way to get some good shots, and, probably quite important for a lot of people - a good way to get EVERYONE in the photos. And it's very affordable. If you're getting the PhotoPass CD anyways (we would be), then it's only $25 extra. I certainly wouldn't expect the same quality as some of the professional photogs here, where a sitting fee is $50+ and then just 1 8x10 can be $100+!

We have the same thing done when we go to Myrtle Beach, you don't get a photo release, but otherwise it's similar. Again, not professional quality, but still nice family shots on the beach that we are ALL in!

My reason for wanting to do these is I am ALWAYS behind the camera! I am the picture taker in our family, so there are very few photos with me in them. This is the chance to actually get some family photos! And at a great price!

I'm pretty much on the same page as sandym718 & pjstevens. Plus, I would say I really don't like having my picture taken by a professional photographer. My husband and I have never had a professional pic of us together and neither has my son. I prefer the everyday candid photos anyway. So this seemed like a nice way to get some pics in a relaxed setting, but of all of us together.

Oh, my this is an absolutely beautiful family photo!

Thank you very much!

What is special about the photo session ones?

I guess my first thought is if you don't like the photos/they aren't your thing, then the photo session is not right for you. It's certainly not going to please everybody (and personally I think this is a good thing so I'll be able to book it again without competing for my time) ;)

And I myself was a bit disappointed at the time, but once I played with my photos, I found we had some really nice ones. But it did involve me editing the photos and realizing that several of them were just not even 'good'.

Here are my reasons to do the photo session:

1. Family/group pictures at Disney without paying the expensive price tag and the fact that you own the photos to make as many copies and sizes as you desire. Sure you could hire a professional photographer to take pictures of you all at Disney but you'll end up paying $100 sitting fee and $25 for an 8 x 10 and have to keep paying more and going back to the photog for additional photos.

2. Everyone can be in the picture w/o having to ask complete strangers to take your picture(s).

3. You get to add Disney edits to your family photos -- can't do this anywhere else.

4. You get 40-70+ pictures -- whenever a complete stranger takes our family photos, we get 1, maybe 2 shots.

5. Opportunity to get family/group pictures when everyone is on vacation, hopefully, having fun -- not sneaking it in between music lessons, swim class and DH's work schedule!

AMEN!!!! These are all my reasons. We had our first inclusive family vacation in years in December and I am so glad we did the GF photoshoot as I have NO photos of us all together except the few from my son's wedding 2+ years ago. This September it will just be hubby and I and I am going to do the Poly (most likely) cause it's pretty and since we did the GF. I want photos of the two of us (that aren't just the normal photopass ones throughout the park). I think it's an awesome opprotunity (especially for someone who can't do the professional photographer thing)!

thanks! I also think that you have to remember that you are seeing ALL your photos -- the good, the bad and the ugly!

When we go to a professional photographer, although they take lots of photos, you don't see them all. They delete/don't show you the ones where your eyes are closed or you have a goofy look on your face or whatever doesn't meet their standard.

With photopass (either the private session or in the parks) you get to see ALL your photos ... and that can be :scared1: sometime! :rotfl2:

Thanks for sharing the pictures and a recap of your sitting. I want to do a group of 7 and hearing what you had to say and seeing your pictures really wants to to go ahead and book it.

Which resort do you think is best for pictures? I was thinking Poly but I'm not too sure. And what should we wear?

Marshay
05-31-2008, 05:34 PM
Pick whichever resort means something to you. I think the Poly has the most potential but then I love that theming.

Go at a time that works for you. Dusk is probably one of the best times to go but if you already scheduled all your ADRs that may not work out or if your kids go to bed early, then don't force them into this time.

It is OK to do during the day -- bright sun and all -- just be wise in choosing your spots (ie don't do the beach since the glare off the sand can be really harsh!).

As for preparation:

(1) clothes -- just coordinate as best you can. It doesn't have to match but be in the same color group. The more you complement, the better. Stick to solid colors for the adults. For the kids, you can mix it up more.

(2) If you don't normally wear makeup (like me), do so for the photos and wear it a LOT heavier than you normally would. Otherwise the camera can wash you out and you'll look pale and white faced. If you are worried, test it out beforehand -- you don't want to look "unnatural" but you don't want to be pale looking either.

(3) Have a back-up change of clothes (esp if small children involved) that either matches the main outfit or backups for everyone.

(4) Arrive about 20 minutes early. This way you have plenty of time to be relaxed and adjust hair, makeup and put outfits on small kids/everyone. We wore the bottoms to the Poly but changed into our red shirts right beforehand -- just didn't want to risk a bird dropping or spilled drink.

(5) Try not to schedule a lot of things beforehand...maybe a rest day, sleep in but afterwards reward everyone with something fun.

All the pics I have seen have been very nice. Still debating if I am going to set this up for my family. If I do, I'll have to do it at the beginning of our trip. Last year by the end of our trip, my 11 year old DS was so sick of his picture taken even bribing him for pins didn't work.

Here are a few screen shots from our Poly shoot. Our session was originally at 3 last Wednesday. I got a call that they had scheduled a photographer's meeting at 3, so they moved it to 4. Well, they were running late, so we didn't get around to taking our pics until about 4:30. I don't know if it was because of the issues with our time or if they're still in the test phase (I heard of others not begin charged), but we weren't charged for our session. :thumbsup2

I can post some better quality pics once I get the PhotoPass CD, but these will give you an idea of what the shots are like. We had a group of 6, my mom, grandparents, DNiece, DS and me. I kind of wish we'd all worn the leis. They look pretty cute. DS wouldn't have it, and I was way too scattered to even think about it.

I think it is intended for one discount for each CD purchased.

But I'm sure if you made seperate reservations and each had a copy of the pre-puchase receipt you could get it for $25.

A couple of questions:we are going with a group of 16 to celebrate my parents 50th anniversary. I will be prepurchasing the cd, but we will share it with the other family members. In other words we are only buying one cd. I would love to do this photo shoot. But with so many of us, I want one with just us, and then another with the group. It could be that other individual families would want one too. So, my question is how many sessions can I reserve at $25? Or will the group and other families have to pay $50? does that make sense? A couple of questions:we are going with a group of 16 to celebrate my parents 50th anniversary. I will be prepurchasing the cd, but we will share it with the other family members. In other words we are only buying one cd. I would love to do this photo shoot. But with so many of us, I want one with just us, and then another with the group. It could be that other individual families would want one too. So, my question is how many sessions can I reserve at $25? Or will the group and other families have to pay $50? does that make sense? Thanks for any info!

One @ $25; the rest @ $50. However, if you look at my post earlier on this thread, you'll see that we had couples pix of just the two of us, plus pix of each family group plus all 16 of us - all in the 20 minute window!

Yes, I did see that thanks! But, I'm selfish and want a whole session just for my family. We are in need of a family pic badly. Thanks for the info!

Hi Stacey,
Someone here on the DISboards posted recently that they were on the phone with the Photopass private photo session CM and they said that three more resorts were going to be available starting in August. And they thought that Beach Club was one of the three. Also Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge. :confused3 But nothing official has been announced that I know of.

my photo session was at 4 at the GF and it was CRAZY sunny still, the photographer helped by placing us in spots away from the sun and all out pictures came out great:)

So do you think the sun would be a little more comfy if it was planned at say 6?

Anyone know what time it gets dark in FL in Late Feb, lol.

We had ours done at the GF June 1st. We had the 6:30 time slot and we still had very bright sun in our eyes. I was a bit disappointed with the photographer who didnt stop to realize that part of us were in the sun and part werent. I chose this time because I didnt want to worry about the sun either, but the last time they schedule for is 7PM. So Im not sure what is a good time.

I guess I will schedule it at the Poly and we can all walk through Epcot and take the monorail. We have a dinner resrvation there one night, so I am going to see what they can do for me in conjunction with that.

I hate staged pictures, but my mom will think she has died and gone to heaven at Disney if I surprise her with this! :stir: :stir:

I do, too!! However, we did the Poly shoot, and I loved the pics! Some were posed, but others were completely not. I don't have my CD yet, but when we were by the waterfall, my DS decided to stick his tongue out (which he's never done before), and the photographer caught it on film (card? ). Granted it's a little fuzzy because it happened so fast, but they do get a lot of candids, as well.

Hi ..... Just thought I'd share that I've booked our photo session! :cool1: We're doing it on Sunday, July 6th at 9:00 AM at the Poly! :thumbsup2

When I was on the phone making the reservation, the VERY NICE CM I was speaking with actually made the suggestion that our family of 5 dress in coordinating colors. Although, we were already planning to do exactly that, I thought it was nice that he did make the suggestion for folks that may not have thought of it on their own. :goodvibes

We are going with the white theme as well. The girls (me, DD14 and DD11) will be in white sun dresses and the boys (DH and DS8) will be in khaki shorts with white button down shirts. :cutie: Hopefully, these will work out great with the Poly setting ....... tropical flowers, beach, etc. :cloud9:

I just bought my dress last weekend & found it on sale! I was so excited. I've been shopping for this specific photo session for a couple of months now! :rotfl: Wish me luck though ...... DD14 lives with her mom & won't be here for us to go shopping for her dress until 5 days before we leave!!! :faint: Please send pixie dust ........... please

I will post photos when we return! This is probably the day I am most looking forward to on our upcoming trip! Thanks to everyone who has shared photos & information so far!

I talked with a CM as well today and he told me the same thing about the colors. He also said that if someone had a tropical shirt, it would lookd nice and everyone else could coordinate with that. This was for the Poly shoot. Also, for the GF shoot he told me that light colors and khakis would be nice. He mentioned that the blues look really good so I am thinking about light blue shirts and everyone in khakis. I am still shopping for the shoots as well and we leave in 9 days! I am so excited!

P.S. I was able to get 7 pages worth of scrapbooking done last night! WOO HOO!

Luckily our family will all be doing the Spirit of Aloha at the Poly one evening and this should be perfect timing as we'll all be together. I read to save money by pre-purchasing the PP CD for $99 http://www.disneyphotopass.com/. When I called for info rep said it can only be booked 30 days out, suggested buying 2 20min sittings with such extended family, as we'd have more time w/more pic and when asked advise of what to wear she suggested bright coordinates tops w/white or kahai bottoms. Sounds so cool, one more set of outfits for our family of 17 to plan . This even makes my anticipation of our family trip more exciting! Can't wait to capture the magic in our little grands eyes!!! :lovestruc

Its funny, I think the solid colors with everyone coordinated is gorgeous, but at the same time, I really like the ones that are not so coordinated, they are so natural looking. Love them.

I am not sure which clothes my family will be wearing...busy Hawaiian prints or studio whites/khaki. Until we decide, I sure do love seeing all the gorgeous photos.

Thank you all for sharing!

Since we already did a family portrait wearing off white last year, I am considering having us all wear pastel polos with khaki colored shorts. My DD had a white dress that has Disney princesses on it w/ the colors: pink, blue, yellow and green. So I thought it would be nice to "pull out" the colors from her dress. What do you think?

I have a question and I appologize if this has already been answered. I called to book today and was told that I didn't pay until I got there and also that there was no confirmation #. They simply took my name, cell #, and party size. Is this right? Also, I was told that the $125 price included the photo session on CD, all other photopass photos could be added, and 3 5X7 prints.

Having just done the Poly shoot 4 days ago, this is absolutely correct. I prepaid for the CD, and got it for $99, but had to pay $25 for the photo shoot, so it came out to $125 for everything. Well worth it. All they take is your info, and when you go to the desk, there will be a photopass guy waiting

I am really enjoying seeing everyones sessions. I decided to jump in and share some of the ones from this past Jan. at the GF. The photographer took a total of 94 shots and we enjoyed the session.

In May we did another GF session with my family and my brother's family. The photographer took 127 pictures! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to share the absolutely beautiful shots he took.

Thanks for the compliments. It seems that both times we went we hit at a time when they weren't busy, so they didn't rush through our session. In May it seemed like we took pictures for close to 45 minutes.

I guess when i heard that they were doing this at the resorts I expected something a little more professional. I think everyone looks great though and I'm going to take some family photos when we go in october.

Please remember, these are not professional photographers, just cast members in their roles. Sure they have more photographic experience, but there not true pros. I mean really, for free, $25, or $50 depending on what package you get, what do you really expect? Pro Lighting, Green Screen, Large Format Digital Back Cameras... Really, their decent pics in nice locations. For what it cost, its great.

Wow, that is a gorgeous blue! It pops right out. Hmmm, might have to look for blue for our photo shoot.

Michy how many pictures did you get in your photo shoot at Poly?

Desiab - Your family is beautiful - it looks like you all had a great time! Thank you for sharing the pictures.

Michygoomy - I love the colors you selected for your pictures. We are a family of 4 and we were trying to come up with a color scheme to work for mom/daughter and dad/son! Your pictures are great!

I have skimmed this thread but didn't see what I was looking for, so I apologize if I missed it. Has anyone done the photo shoot at SSR? Could you tell me how they turned out, where they took them etc? Do you have pics that you could post or have already posted and just point me to them? Thanks!

What time do you think is the best time for the session?

We'll be there June 28-July 6th, and I planned an 8am one, but I'm afraid that it would take away from much needed early hours in the parks.

Do you think evening would be ok? Right before sunset?

I don't know the best time, but we were squinting through many of ours and they didn't turn out so good. Ours was at 9:30. Evening might be better?

:cloud9: :yay: :dance3: Can't wait to see pictures from there. I'm curious as to where all they'll take you for the photos. I'm imagining the beach, the lighthouse, the boardwalk in the distance, the beautiful grounds everywhere!

So I went to the link above and it was working for me - this is to pre-order the photopass CD for $99.00. I didn't process the order, as I have some questions. Will they mail me the CD or do I have to bring a receipt when we go? And is this the promo I can use to get a photo session at a resort (hopefully the BC in August) for $25 and then the pics go to the CD? And after you have the CD, do you "own" the pictures or do you still have to pay for prints? Before I buy the CD, I want to know what I'm getting for the $.

Thank you all for your sharing, your help and anything else you can add.

Both? You bring the reciept to the photo session to get the deal, but you order the CD when you get home and they send it to you.

Yes--except I'm not sure how long the $25 deal is available. You have to book the session to get an official price.

d after you have the CD, do you "own" the pictures or do you still have to pay for prints?

Both! You have full copywrite to the pictures, and you can print prints at home for free. Or you can order prints from any printing service for a cost.

michygoomy,

Thanks for such a quick response. Do you by chance, know the number to call to book a photo session? Also, do you have to pre-order the CD first to get the promo rate (if it is still being offered?) Thanks again!!!

I just ordered my PhotoPass CD. I want to call and set up a photo session at the Beach Club. Does anyone know which number to call? Also, I will be able to put all of our Photo Pass pictures taken at the parks on this CD right?

Seems like a great deal! I'm hoping I can book at BC!!!

The resort portraiture reservation line is 407-934-4004, but the Beach Club won't be available until July 11. Good luck.

I don't know the number, but I see someone else posted it.

Yes, you need to pre-order the CD to get the discounted photo session. Otherise it was $50 (I think).
