CottontailCurl and I have been dreaming and scheming about having a "Girl's weekend" at the Fort. I thought I'd put out some feelers and see who is interested in joining in on the fun! Of course, this is just in the early planning stages, we are thinking spring 2009. We would make it as cost effective as possible, maybe working out some carpooling and creative meal planning to cut down on expenses.

What do you think?

I'm probably in, since that will be my "on" time with an Annual Pass.

If we can get a combination of folks with campers and tent campers. I'd be happy to let a tent camper or two share a site with me to keep costs down.

I'm thinking a minimum of 4 nights to pull the camper that far though.

Camping? or Cabins? Its a long drive for me to get to FW. Theres no way I'd want to pull the camper that far by myself. If I tried to back it into a site, I would end up clearing the whole loops of trees!!!!!:rotfl:
I do like the idea of a womens only meet.

If anybody wants to fly in, (or doesn't have stuff) I've got a 13x13 L-Shaped tent, two 9x9 dome tents, a 6x6 dome tent, 4 EZ-Ups, a Wal-Mart 11x9 rainfly, a Port-a-Potty tent, air mattresses, chairs, linens, the works. I'd be happy to toss all that in the truck.

We will probably be down there visiting my MIL the week after Easter that year, so if you do it then I could come over and hang out for a day with you. We live to far away to come any other time. It would be 2200 miles roundtrip.

Shannone, sorry to steal your pole~ I mean poll, for a minute. The weekend after Easter is all the same to me, so if it works for the rest of everybody we can plan for that!

I mentioned this to a coworker, and she wants to come with me. She'll be in a tent on my site. The dates sound good to me. So I'm assuming we need full hookup. Do we need a pet loop?? Do we need preferred?? (I usually stay in partial, so I'm deferring to the folks in the bigger rigs.)

I am game. It depends on timing though. dh should be back from Iraq in Feb 09. After he gets back we intend to spend 30 days heading west and back. If it is late spring, I can probably make it. I now have a small tent and basic gear. Not sure if I would fly or drive our smaller car (which we plan to buy when he gets back). Don't think I would bring the camper that far for just me. I have no prob sleeping in a tent. Maybe we can get the 1500 and 1600 loop if some are in tents and some in TTs. They are right next to each other. I think the full hookup loops won't hold more than one tent if we want to share a site with more than one tent. Just thinking out loud, not hijacking the trip.

Wow, that would be really cool if I could make it. dh promised me almost 5 years ago that when the youngest was weaned I could get away on my own for a nice trip. She was weaned 3.5 years ago. I have yet to take that trip. Now, after being a single mom for 15 months, I think I deserve it.

The kids might be upset, but we would just be getting back from DL and I could promise to book our next trip while I am gone. Ok, now I am getting excited. I can totally fit all of my gear that I would need in one suitcase and my clothes in another.

Can I change my vote to "when do I start packing?". I can really see this working. Airfare would not be much. We have several friends here to help dh with the kiddos.

Trying to thing of something witty to the fellas, but I am drawing a blank. Exhausted from packing, I leave in the morning. I will get back with ya'll on that one.

Gentlemen, I think there is definately an uprising here. This could be worse than the Peacock and Otter problem ever thought of being. Can you just imagine the craziness this is going to cause. My worse fear is they're going to get Miss Sundee involved in the whole mess and end up forming some sort of traveling band cult type thing. God help us all and enjoy the fort before this event takes place because it might just not be there the next time you plan a trip. Oh and speaking of the Otter thing. I plan on trapping them next trip and haul every single one of them over to Sea World and feed them to Shamu. That'll solve the otter posts for good.

I'm with you there. I'm a towing wimp so my husband does all the driving when we tow. I'm his co-pilot and his backing-in coach. I'd never attempt a trip to FW by myself.
My dh would kill me if I went on a vacation to WDW without him, but something about that does sound great..hehe...:rotfl:

There was a time when my husband would have let me go by myself but not since he was bitten by the Disney Bug. Now, it's not even an option. So, if I come, he would be coming with me to WDW, but not to any of the girl's only meets. We would be staying in one of the DVC resorts and I would be hanging out at FW with all of you. This really does sound like fun!

Wow!! I love that you'd do that. I'm all for sharing sites, too.

Camping? or Cabins?

If anyone's interested in staying in a cabin, the 2100 (cabin) loop is beside the 2000 (partial) loop, Mamaloya's 1500 and 1600 loops are a good combo too. The 2000 loop, might be better for the amount of space and less chance a Wild Women's Wrestling event won't disturb other campers. Although the lack of shrubbery and trees might be a privacy problem, I guess I'll have to go to Michael's and buy some fake trees.

I can tow, but I haven't mastered backing up yet, but then I can just disconnect and push mine in.

Well, YOU KNOW YOU CAN! I say ditch the boys and come on down! I also say ditch the camper and stay in a cabin!:woohoo:

The cabins sleep, what? 7? So even putting 5 in a cabin (with 2008 prices) it would be about $60 a night. If we get in touch with our "sleep over" days and get real cozy it would be even less!

Just thinking out loud, not hijacking the trip.

Please! At this point, we are brain storming. Any and all ideas are welcome!!!
It is a "women's weekend" after all. We don't have any alpha issues like the men do!:lmao:

AAA always seems to be the best deal for me for Ft. Wilderness. AP always seems to be a bit higher than AAA rate.

We need to get Rhonda on this, get us a Grand Gathering # going and figure out the best way to book it.

I know I'll be booking 1 site with a minimum of 2 adults, 1 camper (sleeps only 1), 1 tent. (Although, I know of two others that might join). I normally book partial, but a normal full hookup would work also.

Maybe listing what type of rig, how many it sleeps (if you are offering/have the extra space), and whether you could host a tent or two on your site.

Also, those that would prefer to share a cabin need to list that. (Even though they sleep 6, only 4 unrelated adults would be comfortable. (1 on the double bed, 1 on each bunk, 1 on the murphy)

Easter 2009 is Sunday, April 12th. So we will probably be there April 11th-
19th. If you all are going to be doing your girls weekend during that time, I would love to come by and spend an afternoon/evening with you. But please don't plan it around me since I can't commit to it at this time. We have an 8 week trip out west planned that summer and we will have just spent 2 weeks at the Fort in Dec/Jan '09. I would LOVE to go back around Easter and can probably convince my DH to go since his mom will be living down there by then. BUT it will be my luck she ends up moving to Miami, rofl !! :sad2:

This is fantastic!!! So far we have 16 ladies interested, plus a few friends! From here, I think we should offer up dates, I'll take the top 5 or so and do another poll so we can vote and get this nailed down! :woohoo:

My choice of dates would be anything after the Easter crowds clear out. Shannone mentioned that Easter will be on April 12th in 2009. So I suggest either the weekend of the 18th or the 25th. Anything to avoid the Easter crush! When does the Flower and Garden Festival starts? Anyone interested in doing the F&GF? That might help determine our dates.

They're not even acknowledging our existence! That's terrible! :confused3

I just checked Deb's site and found out that the F&GF runs March 19-June 1. Wow! That's the earliest it's ever begun. So, it will definitely be going on during the time frame we are considering.

That's 2008 Jan. Who knows about 2009, but I would imagine it will start by mid April for sure.

That sounds like a plan. If we do it on the 18th would that give the folks who are going there for Easter a chance to plan for a week from Easter weekend on to the next week so they can take part too? I bet the weather is so nice at that time!

That would work well for me too. It would fall right around when my kids would be on break and I wouldn't have to pull them out of school again, since we are going in Oct. 08. I don't think the school would go for a second trip in the same school year.

To the guys- I acknowledged you-I suggested nice spots for the group photos Stacktester requested. I wouldn't let you all feel left out, I understand your needs. (Easy Rog):rotfl:

Allright! I have been in touch with Rhonda and she is getting things rolling for us :goodvibes She is quoting April 17-20, 2009. If this is a problem~speak now or forever hold your peace!
She will get us a GG # and then all who will come need to fill out a little form for her. Hopefully Rhonda can join us too!

The next thing we have to do is think of a suitable name for our Grand Gathering. I called this Wild Women's Weekend in the beginning because it just came as I started the thread. It may not be a keeper. So, if any of you are feeling creative and inspired, I'd love to hear what you all can come up with! :cool1:

If I understand Grand Gatherings correctly, you can make a reservation of any length and at any resort and rate that you qualify for. Adding the Grand Gathering number to your reservation allows you to be linked to Disney's Grand Gathering system which will allow those with the same "type" of reservation to be in the same loop, and also allows us to book special "Grand Gathering" experiences. It also allows the Grand Gathering folks to communicate on their grand gathering website and "coordinate" the trip.

So yes, you can make your reservation for any length of time you wish.

OK, Ladies! I've chatted with Rhonda and she is holding a full hook-up site. Right now the cost is $92 per night. She hopes that once the AP rates are in we can get a better deal.

I will post another poll to try to figure out what type and how many sites we will need. Then when you are ready, PM Rhonda to reserve your site and she will add it to the Grand Gathering!!! :yay:

Cool. If I am able to meet you it would be the weekend you picked :cool1: I won't know anything for sure until my MIL moves. I am hoping she moves to central FL not too far from WDW. ;)

I don't think I would post a poll since you are asking certain people. You will probably get people voting who aren't coming. Maybe start a new thread...grand gathering for April 16-19. 2009. Similiar to the one that is going now for the GG in July. Then you will be able to see everyone that responds.

Not sure if I can make it the weekend after Easter. WDW will still be fairly crowded then and I really hate crowds. The weekend after the weekend after Easter would be less crowded. Not asking anyone to change dates because we will never all be able to go at the same time. If I did make it down for those dates, I would most likely stay out of the parks and just hang out at the fort.

I still really want to come and will try no matter what the dates.

I don't care where we go! It's officially April now! One more year! Oh, that sounds too long!

I LOVE the tee shirts! What a great idea!

I have a question. We will be staying at a DVC resort and I can't make the reservations until 11/7 months, depending on where we stay. How does staying at a different resort affect a Grand Gathering? I've never paid much attention to the Gatherings because I've never been a part of one before. Does staying at a different resort mean that I can't be a part of it?

Also, can we put the dates of the trip in the thread title so they are easy to remember?

Good idea about the dates!

Also, I'm part of the 4th of July GG and I'm not staying at the Fort. So, its all good. :goodvibes

Jan,

I don't think it's a problem. When you make your reservations, just tell them you want to be part of Grand Gathering #GG#616914 and that should cover it. Then if we decide we want to book one of those group meals or experiences, you can be a part of it.

I'm committed to an 18th Century Living History event up in Illinois the weekend before that, so I don't think I"ll be feeling very "wild" that soon afterwards.

But...if you were to change the date to another month....count me IN!

Hey all you wild women ~ I'll be arriving at the fort on the 19th ~ any chance of meeting even though it will be the last day of the gathering? I'd love to have the chance to meet with you all. (I promise to leave the DH and Dkids at our camper, lol)

How is the weather in April compared to Oct? Anyone know? I have been trying to figure out how I could still be apart of the fun since we are going in Oct. (we only get to go once a year) But, with how slow things are going with Jim we were thinking of maybe waiting and going down in April so that I can join you all. I'm just curious about the weather then. We went the first week in March before and that was nice, December was nice, Oct. was ok, a bit hot this past year though. Also, has anyone done the Pirates and Princess Party?

It was kinda hot when we were there this past April. Not miserable though. Beware of the spring break crowds. Around here schools are closed at Easter for spring break so since Easter was in March i didn't even think about it.

The P&PP is fantabulous, great parade, great fireworks, great time dressing up, low crowds. The booty was ok, it was Mardi Gras type beads, they also use to have treasure [gold wrapped chocolate coins] but no more.

Actually, the dates have been changed. They are the April 23rd - 27th. Alot of folks come before and after. The previous weekend was still in Holiday season, so we moved it further away from Easter.

Ami should be putting up a new post with the revised dates soon!!

Ami and myself, plus from responses we got in another thread decided in chat the other night that we should change the dates to get it away from Holiday season.

I contacted Rhonda yesterday about changing my reservations.

I finally made our ressies for Apr. 21-26, so we'll be there the same time! I had missed the post about the change in dates, so I'm excited that I won't have to miss it. I'll be there with DH and DBIL and his DD6, so time away with some females should be a relief.:thumbsup2 Will see you all sometime, but not Sat. the 25th- that's when my kids will be marching in the parade at MK!

We're checking in on Monday morning. Hopefully getting a site in 1500 so we're close to the pool. Will have our green Mickey ears sign up, too. We'll have 2 tents and a canopy, and a red Chrysler mini van.

We won't have a golf cart, but still hope to see some of the other loops, and hopefully will run into some of you there! We won't have a computer with us either, so when we leave home we'll be living in the stone age.;)

See you all there!
