Hi, I've been scrap booking for years, but let it go after I lost my mom to suicide 5 years ago.(Dropped a lot of stuff - but ready again:goodvibes )
I really got inspired by this board last month (at like 3 in the morning) and I thought that I saw some kind of scrap swap, but having trouble finding it again.
Anybody willing to help a newbie and hold her hand while she gets the hang of things...(I ususally hang out on the budget board with my freap friends Hi AlexWyattMommy...)

Hi there! Sorry about your tragic loss, glad you're feeling inspired again. If you go up a level to "creative community" you'll find the swap threads under swaps - I think they're all closeda t the moment but if you PM the hostess you might sneak in the recipe swap as you're only a little bit late ;-). Otherwise check the swap calendar and make a note of what you fancy, then jump in as they open.
Warning - swapping is addictive! But it doesn't put weight on and its not bad for your lungs or liver, so I say so what? :lmao:

I feel like a 4 year old visiting his kg classroom for the first time...
I'm afraid that I'm not up on the jargon - not sure what
tags, toppers, signage, slide mounts (i'll stop here i'm embarassing myself) are
Is there anywhere that defines this stuff (pictures are even better) I really - really want to do this stuff...This sounds like it would be so fun
Thanks

B.C. (before children) I was heavily into rubber stamping. There was a store in Harvard Square called Good Good the Elephant and all it sold was rubber stamps and related paraphanielia...
Once when I was inputting expenses into Quicken, I generated one of those little pie charts of "our" expenditures and the "Rubber Stamp" slice was bigger than the "rent" slice:scared1: (didn't bother "sharing" that little piece of information with DH and never used Quicken again:lmao: )

OK...well...I'll dish....
I tried the new MM cutter...can you say "hate it?"...I didn't like the blade at all, so I got a new fiskars, and the new design really is better than my old one. I tried them both in Mike's classroom, and put that MM one back...
Then, I was just wandering around, minding my own business, and these cute little "things" jumped right in my cart...can't tell what they are because they are for my SS...
THEN, I was just walking down the isle, and all this other really cute stuff started talking to the stuff already in the cart, and well, ya know I love a party, so they all came home with me....
THEN I went to Walmart, and well, some really cute Tink fabric jumped in my cart (somehow) and I just had to take it home to make a Cricut cover... but it's ppurrrrpllllle!!!!
Oh, and did I mention that photo storage boxes were on sale? 3 for $5? Yeah, well, it was a deal...
(waiting for a time when DH wont see the bags):confused3 What?

we do, for bad purchases. Stuff that is not necessary for creating pages, stuff you will hoard, stuff that was "just so pretty I couldn't resist" (but only if you are on the shopping ban wagon)
and it is also used for the winter months when that white stuff falls from the sky, that's a 4 letter word my friend and we don't say that here. ;) :rotfl2:

I made the mistake of saving all my receipts from last year, yeah I'll never do that again! That's why I am the proud Vice President of the Ban Wagon. I don't need to buy anymore stuff.
I didn't share that info with DH either, somethings are just better left unsaid. :rolleyes1

It's okay to save the receipts, you just don't add them up. I've read too many stories about people who had stuff stolen and then the insurance company wants proof you owned the item. So I put all of mine in a coupon holder, and then never look at them again.

I keep my receipts and I made the mistake of starting to add them up last year. I stopped when I got to $2,500 and I still had a pretty large stack of receipts.
That would be why I started the BAN wagon rolling. I'm the President but I am NOT the driver as I take NO RESPONSIBILITY/BLAME for all the people who keep falling off! :lmao:

You don't need to wait for a newbie swap - most of our swaps welcome newbies too and then we all jump on the newbie ones anyway:rotfl:
I think there is a resort swap coming up (not sure if it's open to newbies but it will say on the thread) and I am going to do one in March for restaurants (Eat around the world) which you are more than welcome to join. We are a supportive group of girls here.....so we'll help.
My first photo mat in a swap was about the size of an 8x10 instead of 4x6 and my tags would have held the 4x6 pictures instead and I had no idea what a slide mount was or why someone would ever need one in for slides in the year 2007 since pictures are mostly digital or at least film right? or make a border, puzzle piece, matchbox or other weird thing for the scrapbook. I just put tons of pictures onto one mat and put them on cute disney paper and called it a scrapbook. NOW, thanks to swapping and a very supportive group of ladies (who didn't openly make fun of my ridiculously huge first swap items), I can whip out a matted lyric, slide mount, tags in many shapes, even a paper piecing (imagine!) in a short amount of time and my pages (when I get around to actually scrapping) are fast to do and fabulous!
Whew - I'm tired now.....

You are welcome to join in the resort swap and it is an easy one in some ways since you will only be making one item for a resort instead of a few different elements. My first swap items were horrible too- I still have them but wouldn't use most of them.

I would gladly accept the position of Swap Promoter! Of course, as in my days of supporting software sales, when it comes time to say whether its addictive and how we have tons of fun but rarely scrap anymore (but when we do it's fabulous), I will just hold up some shiny object and yell out "Look - over here - something shiny!!!!" and hope no one notices I didn't answer the question!
