Is VB always so..... dirty? We stayed there for our first time last week in a studio. The walls were really stained, and we had mold around the tiles in the bath. Our friends studio had stained sheets, dirty walls, and a dirty shower. I wiped down all the walls and the cabinets with our damp towels before we left and the towels were black. I just wondered if it is difficult for them to find good help, or if the inn rooms are cleaner??? I even noticed that the walls were really dusty and mildly dirty as SSR. Again I wiped them down? You all better hope you stay in a unit after me!:woohoo: I figured SSR had just been slammed since Christmas. The castmembers said it had been so.... busy with Christmas, New Years, Marathon weekend, and they were sold out our last night there MLK weekend. On Sunday the 20th they had turned over 550 rooms in one day. So I know they haven't closed any buildings for cleaning. I have never seen SSR so crowded, and I have stayed there 4 times in the last 4 years. Anyways I think we should all try to clean up after ourselves. It might help keep the units in better condition for other.:thumbsup2

I too try to leave the villas cleaner than when we arrive. Last time we were at the Beach Club, I washed down the patio that was starting to grow some funky lookin' green stuff (mold? mildew?). I figured since we "own" part of these resorts, it is partially our responsibility to help care for them. It really doesn't take but a minute or two, and if it helps keep dues down, I'm all for it.

I agree with you there - with the best will in the world the cleaners have only so much time to do the required work. If we all trash the units think of the maintenance fees.

I am always impressed with you that clean the rooms. I would never clean the walls or the patio. You need to pick up the phone and tell the manager on duty to fix the problem. Are they short handed maybe?? housekeeping getting sloppy probably..
We all pay a lot speak up....

Hey Lenc... I'm a bit confused. Has there been problems with mk at VB?
OP... sorry for your experience.

Im going to respectfully disagree with you on this.
While I do agree that it is a good thing to leave the room as clean or cleaner than when I got there, seeing mold and other signs of a room not being properly cleaned and/or maintained is not acceptable. I am not spending this sort of money to arrive and have to clean in order to just be able to tolerate staying there.
I would expect such conditions from an overused Holiday Inn room but not a DVC room.
I would be on the phone with the front desk in a second and be asking for a special VIP cleaning - on the house.
I know that sounds harsh, but a room, DVC or otherwise, in that shape is unacceptable.

I think VB has had a problem with mold since the hurricanes a few years back. Our rooms there have had dehumidifiers ever since. Maybe the room has a faulty dehumidifier or something, but it seems as though mousekeeping would notice that. I've never had a problem with my room being cleaned yet - hopefully I won't, but I will likely call and report it if it's bad.

Yeah, it's called thousands of dollars in dues that I pay every year. That's how I take care of my DVC.
I'd be *furious* if I had to clean the room.
FWIW, I leave the room as clean as I find it (seriously), but I expect a clean nice room when I check in. So far we've only had one room that was not ok, and that was over at coronado springs. The carpet looked/smelled liked a t-rex barfed on it.

I agree, I take care of the room after I check in to a spotlessly clean room. I am not going to pay my dues and expect otherwise.
I would be on the phone immediately to the housekeeping manager, do not call the Front Desk, huge waste of time, and have housekeeping reclean the room.

We stayed in an Inn room in late Dec. / early Jan. and the cleanliness was fine.
As someone else mentioned, the room had a dehumidifier. We emptied it at least twice during our 5-night stay as it really does pull the moisture from the air which I think really helps.
OP, sorry you had a bad experience.
FWIW, I usually take Lysol-wipes to wipe down counters in the kitchen(ette) and bathrooms before we use them. And when we stay in a 1-BR, I run the dishes through the dishwasher before we use them. In a studio, we just bring our own plastic cups (especially since seeing that you-tube that I'm sure you all have seen).

WHAT?????:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: who does that????
i know it wasn't an adult (or at least i hope to god it wasn't) but if you saw it when you arrived it's not like the person who had the room before you didn't see it.
what's with people.
and i agree half and half. while it's my responsibility to throw out unused items at the end of our stay it shouldn't be my responsibility to go through the fridge and cupboards making sure someone else's crap is gone.
if those who are leaving would just have a little more pride and clean up their own stuff those following behind wouldn't have to do it - but mousekeeping shouldn't be glossing over stuff either - takes 2 seconds to open a fridge door to see it's clean for the next guests and if not clean it (but really it should only need a wiping down if we all do our part)
if they need more staff then they need more staff - we aren't their staff and pay a pretty penny to make sure those rooms are clean when we arrive.
my husband is a chef in a huge hotel and works his a$$ off when they are short staffed but that just tells the head chef they don't need anyone else because it's getting done - well dh finally stopped working over time and running around like a chicken with his head cut off, orders piled up, customers complained and guess what. they hired more staff. said they didn't realize they needed more because no one complained their food was late. (ya right)
anyways - if you bring it in take it out or throw it out and let mousekeeping do what they need to do and we'll all be happy.

Yes, Both of our rooms looked like they had fecal matter on the walls, and make-up. I should have called, but frankly I didn't think SSR was that bad. I could wipe down the walls with windex or wipes. However, Vero had issues. I was surprised that we didn't have daily housekeeping. We payed daily for our 2 nights using our DVC discount. I also think it is hard to keep a studio clean with out a washing machine vacuum etc. It was only 2 nights and thankfully it was warm so we were at the pool/beach all day. However, if I had been there a week I would have called!!
I am glad we all take pride in our units and try to keep them clean. I own SSR and I look at it as my second home. I keep my units as I would my own house. If my kids run their hand us the walls, spill, or the doors our moldings are dusty I clean them! So I don't have a problem doing it on vacation. I just hope things were overlooked because it has been busy at WDW not because mousekeeping is sliding.
However, Vero is a totally different issue. Those units need refurbishing. It is partly do to sand, and humidity. However, it was mainly due to poor maintaining. Like I said the Lobby, restrooms, pool, grounds were lovely. The units are in disrepair.

I agree with those that say it is not our job to clean our rooms. It is our responsibility to leave the room as nice as we found it, which should be nearly perfect. If I ever encounter any of these situations, a call to housekeeping will immediately be made, and the situation in the room will be remedied to our satisfaction. That is supposed to be the Disney way, and we have all paid a ton and should expect the simple and obvious to be taken care of before we check in.

As for Vero, it is not that bad. Is it a unit at DW? No, definitely not. But, it is the beach, it is humid, it is not on property. When we went, I expected the same attention to detail that you get at WDW. I also do not know how old it is. With that said, being on the beach and the surroundings are amazing. I would go to Vero again tomorrow for the outdoor ambiance, not for the rooms.

When we stayed at VB in a one bedroom villa I was impressed with how clean it was, I always buy bleach to clean out the jacuzzi but I would do that anywhere.

We have only been twice (3 rooms total) and had no issues with cleanliness. I think being beaten by a hurricane or two and having the humidity of the ocean really gives them some challenges.
The only negative thing I remember is getting a fowl smell in the bathroom two years ago. It seemed to come and go and I think was solved when we made sure the fan was not running for long periods of time.

on this thread, several people have mentioned mold. my DS & I are both asthmatics and highly sensitive to mold. we have a 2B unit reserved for the last week of March. is the mold that bad? we cannot do a dehumidifier in most rooms and still be able to breathe because of the mold in the unit. please respond ASAP. I am getting very nervous and wonder if I made a mistake about Vero

I have been to VB 3 times since the hurricanes of 2004. I do believe all rooms have dehumidifiers now. They are necessary in that I have found in a 1 bdrm that I was emptying it twice a day (1 gal each time). I have not seen any mold inside the units I have stayed in. I would imagine the humidity in March is considerably lower than in the summer months too.

Our Mold was in the bathroom. It was around the tub, and a few spots in the ceiling. I did not check the dehumidifier, for h20. I am from the Dry west coast, and did not know how to open it. We pay for humidity here, and I had not seen a dehumidifier before. How long are you going for? We were only there for 2 days, so we overlooked the wear and tear. I am sure they have refurbished rooms and you can always try a different room. We checked in at 7:00 and our friends checked in at 8:00 So, we didn't ask for a different rooms and the property was at capacity. I really do believe a lot of our issues were from traveling so close behind the holidays.
My husband and my son both suffer from Asthma and they were fine. For us, I think the humidity helps. Like I said before, being directly on the beach was worth the trip! Disney has the best customer service. I am sure you will be fine.
