Credit Card for Avis car hire??

I am hoping someone may be able to help me as I am getting a little worried. I have just booked our holiday to Disney (travel agent route) and will be hiring a car from Avis. The travel agent tried to sell me their credit card saying it was a must for the car hire (we don't possess one). I said no as, apart from not wanting one, I contacted Avis UK and they said a Visa debit card would be fine. However Avis US say that they will accept a debit card if you have a US driving licence.

Sorry for going on but please can anyone tell me if they have any experience with Avis and if I will need a credit card. Thanks

:thumbsup2 Your Visa debit card is fine,all because of the Visa symbol-I have used my Llyods TSB with no problems.What I think the Travel agent may have been trying to get you to buy is their Foreign Currency card-basically instead of having Travellers Cheques & cash everything is on the card.
