11 month newbie booking question

The wife and I are thinking about going to AKL December 27 2008 - Jan 2 2009.

Can I call now for that reservation, or do I need to wait until January 27th 2008?

If your arrival date is December 27, then you can start a day-by-day reservation on the 28th of January, as the 28th would be the check out date for a night's stay on the 27th.

Ahh..very cool. Thank you. I talked to MS and they told me I had to wait until Feb 3rd because that's our check out day. I didn't think about doing a day by day reservation.

A question related to that, if I get December 27-28th, and call the next day and get the 28th-29th, will they link the reservations, or do I have a different reservation/confirmation number for every day?

If you do day by day, tell them at the beginning that you will be checking out on so and so date. They will extend the same reservation for you until it is complete. You do not book multiple reservations which need to be linked.

I agree with chalee94 - you need to do a day by day reservation for that week, especially for New Year's Eve. NYE is probably the most difficult night of the year to book DVC accomodations. Snooze & you lose!

Everyone above -- and the MS CM -- is correct. However, since you describe yourself as a newbie, an explanation of "day-by-day" might be in order.

You can book your home resort 11 months to the day from your check-OUT date. So if you're looking to book the entire trip, the MS CM was correct.

However, Carol is also correct -- ain't happening!

So, you will want to book day-by-day. On the 28th, book the your arrival night. On the 29th, call back and book the second night. On the 30th, call back and book the third night. Etc, etc, etc.

Using that stragegy, you are able to book each day precisely at 11 months. That's not usually necessary, but it avoids a ton of heartache, stress, and waitlist adventures for really busy times.
