I am told that you have to wait until check in to get a building assigned for a stay at SSR. Though, it sounds like maybe some people request a building? Does anyone know how this works??

You can request a building, but location requests are not guaranteed. They do their best to honor them, but sometimes it just isn't possible.

You can call MS and request a location. It does not mean you will get it. It will marked on your reservation and they will take that into consideration when your information is sent to SSR.

As others have said, location is a request only. FWIW, I have had very poor luck at SSR. I think it depends a great deal on how full the resort is and what time of day you check in. My worst experience was getting in late at a time when the resort was packed... gave me a room in Carousel and insisted it was the ONLY studio available :sad2: it was a million miles from the Carriage House, had no pool and was a hike to the bus stop... as a solo traveler with mobility issues, I was pretty unhappy.

Has anyone had success on an early check in and getting their request? I was thinking of flying in on Friday afternoon and staying the night at one of the values and then head over to SSR early in the a.m, say around 7:00 a.m.

Tinkerdreams, that is exactly what we usually try to do. It helps to say that you don't need the room to be available. For some reason they always think we want our room immediately and therefore the answer "there is nothing available for your request" is actually true. But I figure if I'm there early I guess I should get the room.

It isn't always perfect but sometimes when we don't get what we want, we actually discover something new to like. I try not to get upset about it and we've been really lucky so far.

We have had great luck having our requests fulfilled at SSR. I do think it helps to check in early. We have always done so before noon. On one occassion, we did ask to wait until our request became available because the room was not clean yet. No harm in putting a request in when you make the reservation!

We have stayed at SSR twice and have gotten our requests both times. Like the last post we always checked in early. Once the room was ready the next it wasn't but we were told we were going to be in the Springs section just as we requested.

Rather than requesting a specific building, I'd suggest requesting an area when you first make your reservation. Building or room, neither is anything more than a request. But if you request a specific building, there are only so many rooms in that building. If you request an area rather than a building, you still have a chance to request that building at check in, but there are many more rooms that meet the 'building' request.

We requested an area(CP and near the quiet pool) for Thanksgiving. We got in about 11am, the room wasn't ready but the CM showed us what building at CP it would be in. She also offered us a choice of the Grandstand, but we like CP for the proximity to DTD(and hate the DTD bus ride).

We always request Congress Park and have always gotten it. But, saying that, they have tried to put us elsewhere upon check-in if a room in Congress Park was not ready yet. We just tell them we are willing to wait and always have been happy.

The buildings aren't numbered. But the areas have names, so request a section by name rather than number (it doesn't exist).
