View Full Version : Please tell me I am wrong: Child DDP Question

Someone please tell me I am wrong about a few DDP children menu choices. My DD5 is a very very picky eater. She will only eat peanut butter (no jelly), chicken fingers, mozz sticks and pizza. I went to look at a few menus today online and was shocked to see that chicken fingers are not offered on the children dining plan at Pinnochios. Village House.(I know I am spelling this wrong.)They have it for adults not kids! The choices for kids are Pb & j (doesnt like jelly), turkey and cheese rollup, and mac & cheese. She wont eat any of those choices. Please tell me that the menu online is wrong and that I can order her chicken fingers. I wanted to eat there to try the Figaro Fries. Next I looked at Columbia House I wanted to try their tuna sandwich. She wont eat anything there either!!! Maybe someone out there can name a place that is near by and I can get her something she likes and bring it over to Columbia or the Pinnochio's place.

Also the only breakfast choices she like are pancakes, waffles or french toast. Please tell me they have one of these at CRT as I have had a ressie for months.

Thank you so much for reading my post and I hope to hear back from you guys . This board has been so helpful to me.

The children's menus at CS locations can be very limited and oddly dont always include the old stand-bys of hamburger, chick fingers or pizza. My children have found that they are willing to try something new at these locations but not all kids will do that. At many CS locations it is possible to order an adult meal for the child as they dont all seperate kid and adult CS credits. Sometimes I eat the kids meal (not the mac and cheese, yuck) and split the adult meal between my girls and that makes everyone happy.

At CRT I dont recall pancakes or waffles or French toast now that I think about it. We all love the cheese blintzes, the sausage and potatos. The Allears menus should list the exact breakfast items. There is also a pastry basket that she may enjoy. She will definately find something that she likes. And really she will be paying so much attention to the characters that the food is secondary in our experience.

I am sure that you will be fine and she will find somethings that she likes on the menu. If not, then a Mickey ice cream bar can sometimes make for a great lunch! ;) :goodvibes

My last 4 times at CRT for breakfast they have had french toast sticks for the children instead of the cheese danish/french toast stuff for the adults. Hope this helps

Here are my thoughts - at Pinnochio's, you could always order the adult meal for your daughter and one of the kids' meals for yourself, then share as needed. We do it allthe time.
I've always found the menu there to be very limited, so we rarely end up there. I think they limit it because otherwise the place woul d be even more packed as it's a cool location and Fantasyland gets very crowded in the middle of the day.

Sometimes places will allow substitutions that aren't on the menu and sometimes they won't. Like lots of places will allow kids to get french fries, even if it isn't listed on the new kids' menu.

I haven't been to CRT very recently, but when I was there last, you had very few choices. The one thing was they brought out a bread basket that had rolls and pastry and such - but that was before the new dining changes.

The OTHER thing I can tell you is that you should call WDW dining. They are VERY helpful if you call ahead and explain your situation. I think peanut butter might be a food they don't serve too many places at WDW because of peanut allergies. I think maybe the ones they do serve are prepackaged Uncrustables - so they don't risk cross-contamination.
They may direct you to call CRT directly so the chef can help, but WDW has lots of experience in dealing withthis sort of thing. I know when we go with my sister who is vegetarian they have been very helpful. Also, I know that most TS places - say if they serve salmon or some other meat with a sauce you don't like - they can go in the back and prep you a plain piece of salmon. They won't like roast a whole turkey just for you, but they can often find a way to give you something plain. They do request that you call ahead though!!!!

As far as another CS option at MK- Cosmic Ray's does have chicken nuggets (if that's close enough to chicken fingers). It's not too far from Pinocchio's. I'm not sure where Columbia is though.

My kids like chicken, also. I remember them getting nuggets at the Electric Umbrella in Epcot. In AK, they got the chicken wings at Flame Tree and really enjoyed those - we pulled the meat off the bone for them. Just some other info. They had other stuff the other meals.

Like the person above mentioned, you could get chicken nuggets from Cosmic Rays when going to Pinocchio Village Haus, it isn't to terribly far away. When going to Columbia Harbour House, you could go to Pecos Bills and they have chicken nuggets on the kids menu, and it isn't very far away from there. Hope this helps.

I was very surprised to find that at Pizzafari at AK they don't offer pizza for kids. Umm isn't that the name of the place?!? My kids would shoot me if I made them eat mac and cheese and chicken fingers for a week. I've been pouring over the menus to find places my kids can eat too.

They took the pizza off the kids menu because adults were ordering a kids meal for themselves, instead of the adult meal, which was essentially the same meal only the adult cost more, obviously. Not saying it makes sense, that's just the reason.

Actually, that reason makes a great deal of sense. If the same size pizza was being offered for less as a child's meal, who wouldn't buy the child's meal? A CS won't tell you you have to produce the child.

The only other way to fix it would have been to offer a smaller portion of pizza and the place isn't set up to do that. If they had to cut the pizza in half, what would happen to the other half? Would it wait until someone else ordered a kids' meal (and then complained that they didn't get hot pizza?)

Another way would be to not have a separate kid's menu (which wasn't an issue before the dining plan, everybody just bought the kids a pizza). I guess they could go this route, but it would probably mean they would stop offering anything other than pizza.

Kerri G - I know this isn't what your question asked, but I thought I would offer up a couple of other suggestions.

1) Buy some of the small containers of peanut butter at home and pack them in your suitcase and then buy some bread down in Florida. Or, pack some portable snacks in your suitcase that you know she will like. That way, if you get stuck somewhere and don't see anything she likes, she will still be able to eat.

2) You don't mention if you are staying onsite or off, but some of the resort food courts have a better selection of kids meal choices than those in the parks.

FWIW - They let my kids get pizza at Pizzafari. We were 3adults and 2children and the cashier said it was fine that we wanted 4 adult meals. (The 2 youngest shared a meal.) Moral of the story - it doesn't hurt to ask.

The chicken nuggets on the kids menus at Cosmic Rays are NOT the same as the chicken fingers on the adult menus. The adult ones are big long strips of white meat. The kids nuggets are small processed nuggets. They don't taste the same, just so you know.

The kids choices at most CS Places are seriously lame. Odd choices for a child, or just plain bad tasting. The kids choices at TS places are much, much better.

I'm not sure why but i guess i've always looked over the TS menus now that i'm looking at some of the places i was thinking of eating CS meals i'm starting to worry... my oldest LOVES his burgers and would would out eat me in a burger... but there's not burgers on any of the kids menus i guess this is where i send dh to the counter and order meals while we all go sit.... hopefull he can ge 3 adult meals and 2 kids meals... I know that's not how the DDP is supose to work but if we can get away with it we're going to...

This is what we did for my DGD. We were worried because after the menus for children changed last year she may not find food that she would eat. We had no problems though, she found food at every place we tried except Pecos Bill. It was worth packing the PB though, cheap insurance, IMO.

Thank you to everyone that replied. We are staying at the All Star Movies. I saw someone asked that earlier. If I have to I will bring food with me, it just bothers me that I have to since we are on a DDP. I think that if i looked into this prior to getting the plan I wouldnt have gotten it for her. I would have just paid OOP or brought food just for her. I didnt think that I would have to look into where I could find chicken nuggets and pizza. I am really surprised that I cant find that in Fantasyland. I have tried everything under the sun to get my DD5 to eat better but nothing works. I do have a ressie at CP ( I know she will eat there)for one of the 2 days we are going to be in MK. The problem is I think I made too many TS for the day. Here is what I planned 9:10 1900 Park Fare (she is an Alice nut) 1:00 CP and 7:15 Hoop Dee Doo. I was going to cancel the CP ressie. Thoughts??

I think they're rather close together. You'll certainly enjoy the character interaction, but I'd be surprised if you were hungry for your CP reservation.

All times are estimated, but here's roughly what your morning afternoon currently looks like with your reservation times.

9:10 - 10:20 - 1900 Park Fare
Walk up to Monorail or to Boat Launch and travel to MK
11:00 - Enter MK
12:45 - Check in at CP for Reservation
1:00 - 2:10 - Crystal Palace

I'm the one who asked where you were staying.:goodvibes According to allearsnet.com, Movies has chicken nuggets. Hopefully that will help some.
Also, JMHO, but I think 3 TS meals in one day is too many - it won't leave you any time to explore the MK. Don't stress about the kids dining plan. If you go to a character meal, you've covered the cost of the plan for her for the day.:) Also, instead of using her CS at lunch, you could use it at breakfast on any day you don't have a TS breakfast. Then she could have her pancakes and have a snack or share with you for lunch. Since CS are pooled, you could actually get an adult breakfast to share. You would still have another CS credit left for later in the day.

We were able to get a pizza there for the kids on DDP kids meal. They just don't get a side with it. I just asked a CM that worked there, and she said "sure"...

I believe though that this is dependent on the CM and if they allow it or not. You may get lucky and hit a CM who allows this, but the CM at the register next to her may not allow anyone to do this.

It's great if they let you do this, just don't blame the CM if they don't let you do it. The CM who doesn't allow it is technically doing their job properly.

We have always taken dd to Cosmic Ray's for CS meal in MK. It has a wide variety of foods available and she likes to watch the "show" while we are eating.

Dd is 6.5yo and is a picky eater as well. She did surprisingly well during our trip last month. She prefers chicken nuggets, pizza, plain pasta and vegetables. She doesn't mind pb&j but a heads up...WDW's are premade Uncrustables so I don't think you could get just peanut butter w/ no jelly.

I did stay away from some places based upon menus though, Liberty Tree Tavern doesn't really have much dd would be interested in eating so we opted for other places.

I agree that three TS meals in one day is going to eat into your park time. I would either drop breakfast and pick up something light then or drop lunch and do two light snacks during the day and hit HDDR later that night.

I had to laugh when I read this! We are in the same predicament! DS3 (will be 4 when we go) is also very picky. We are also getting the DP and hoping for the free dining since we are planning to go Aug 30.:woohoo: I guess that will help (if we don't have to pay for it) because DS only eats peanut butter sandwiches, no jelly...Eggo waffles...french fries...apples with PB...bananas with PB...and sometimes apple sauce or cheese, but only plain cheese, not on a sandwich! That is literally the extent of his daily menu! I don't know what I did wrong when I was pregnant...but ironically I did eat A LOT of PB!:rotfl2: Anyway I was thinking the same thing, I don't know what I'm going to do with him, I don't want him subsiding on french fries all week! I guess I'll do the same as one poster suggested and just pack some PB in our suitcase. I'm telling you, this kid eats so much PB, I need to buy stock in Skippy!

I'm laughing at a memory that your post reminded me of. When my dd (now 10) went to CRT's for breakfast at age 3 1/2, there was nothing they offered that she'd eat. I knew that in advance, so I didn't care, but it sure bothered the servers. Finally we agreed that they'd bring her a slice of american cheese. Well, she loved american cheese, but it had to be the deli kind, not like Kraft or a cheese food, plain, cold and not on a sandwich. Well, the server put it on a hot plate, and it looked like melted plastic.

Anyway, for those of you struggling with picky eaters, my dd now swings the other way. Now, she prefers good food over what is offered at most of the CS places. She'd live on steak, chicken and rice if I let her. But she eats Thai, chinese dishes and all sorts of things I'd never have believed she'd eat a few years ago. Hang in there.

We go through the same thing you all are talking about. Sci-Fi doesn't have chicken on the kids menu, but we have to eat here for my older boys. After going through this the past two years, I have it pretty much down on what to order at all the places we like. At Pinnochio's Village Haus, I get the adult chicken strips and let my twins share it. One of my other boys eats their kids meals.

I had to laugh too, because my twins will not eat much either. Last year when we ate at Liberty Tree Tavern, they wouldn't eat any of it. I had to go buy some french fries from the fry cart and some popcorn, and I brought it in to LTT for them to eat. I got lots and lots of strange looks. I guess it did look strange to see fries and popcorn on their plates.

I have the a similiar problem with the kids meals but not because they are picky but because they don't really care for the mac and cheese and nuggets they want to eat what we eat, if there is salad on the menu they want that...they don't like to be so limited on their selections. In August we would pay out of pocket for them to split a CS Adult meal and then use their CS for their breakfast in the morning. And actually 1 kids breakfast was more than enough for them to share so I would usually end up eating the other breakfast and then we only bought DH breakfast OOP.

Was there on Dining Plan over Xmas. Apart from 1 day my 7 year old son ate from the adult menu at CS locations. CS dining credits only show as 1 number so you do not have to order childrens meal. I was very relieved as my son also didn't really like much that was on the kids menu. He loved the pizza's at Wolfgang Pucks and the chicken strips that they seemed to sell at most CS locations.

You just described my son!!! Cheese can't be on a sandwich...has to be deli cheese, and not just any deli cheese, has to be the good deli cheese! I live for the day when he starts eating normal people food! Of course, if he's anything like his father I'll need a second job to support his food intake! :rotfl: I should be enjoying this while it lasts but it's so frustrating that he's soooo picky!

I posted this in another thread where they seemed to really appreciate the info.

This is the Children's Menus at CS Locations (based on the menu information on allearsnet.com) There is not a great variety, but at most places there seems to be 'normal' kid fare (hot dog, nuggets, etc) and then a more grown up option (Baked chicken wings, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Sloppy Joe, Ham and Cheese Wrap, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Mini Sub, Chicken Leg with Mashed Potatoes, salads, Turkey and cheese roll up, Grilled Chicken with cheese). I do however, only see a hamburger noted at one CS location out of all of the parks - Tangerine.

This is the very reason we decided against the DDP for our upcoming Oct. trip. With 4 kids on the DDP, we never will get them to all agree to try the foods they don't like, while DH and I eat the tuna sandwiches, cheeseburgers, etc. I'm sure we could convince 1 or 2, but we'd be paying OOP for adult CS meals every day, and could never make up those unused CS's. Yes, I thought about using them for breakfast, but we're staying club level, and will prob just have a quick cereal or bagel in the am. It just doesn't add up for us. Even for TS, 1 or 2 will definately want something off the adult menu, in the past I just got the appetizer and the child ate the meal, but now I'd have to pay more OOP.

Adult and Child Counter Service credits are mixed. For instance if you have 20 credits (10 adult and 10 child), you COULD order 20 adult meals. You do not have to separate them into kids/adult.
