Hello Everyone:wave2:
Has anyone stayed at the Wynfield Inn on I-Drive recently? Any advice good or bad is greatly appreciated. Have read some reviews on it and they don't sound too good:eek: but then on these trip advisors you very rarely hear the good only the bad. Thanks to all in advance who reply-just in case i don't get to thank you all personally.x.

Have you booked there? I looked at it it a couple of years ago but read the reviews and decided against it. Could you change to a different hotel if you are not sure? how you booked?

Hello,
No have'nt booked it.Was just looking about for a cheap stay on I-drive.(was quoted £1,535 for a 2 adults+2children 14 nights Virgin-which i thought was good)
We're going 1st April 2009+staying at the Embassy Suites I-Drive for 16 nights for our daughters 8th birthday+would like to go back the following year for our other daughters 6th birthday but would have to be cheap(as the one at Embassy is costing £3,334:eek: ) Any ideas for somewhere cheap-have stayed at Holiday Inn but that does'nt seem to get good reviews anymore, and have also stayed at Quality Inn-which gets it's fair share of bad as well now!!!
No car must be transfers-love flying with Virgin-love staying on I-Drive(although i know some would'nt agree). Thanks for your help.x.

Sorry, should have made myself clearer,i have gone on the prices for December 3rd 2008 for 14 nights on Virgin's website-so it would even be a little cheaper with my 10% Frequent Flyer Discount(to give me a rough price guide for December 2009).Thanks Wayne.x.

Hi, I stayed at the Wynfield Inn a couple of years back, and it looks like I'll be staying there when we go in September this year - price was the main issue for the Orlando part of the holiday and this is just about the cheapest. I can only go by my own experiences, I found it to be in a fantastic location (especially for Seaworld, five minute walk over the road!), decent sized rooms and friendly management. The Village Inn restaurant is next door and does a fantastic breakfast.

If you have any issues, if you give the management a chance to sort them out for you, I'm sure you'll be okay - I tend to take reviews on Tripadvisor with a pinch of salt, all three hotels I've stayed in get a roasting on that website, and I've never been disappointed! :thumbsup2

It is a great price but as you know prices can totally change for next year.
With your extra discount it comes out at about £1,483. Do you check flydrive prices? maybe not if you dont drive. Just something to consider if prices change for next year. You just dont pick up the car(but dont tell them)
Flydrive for same dates and your FVC 10% is £1,267, Just a very quick check on prices for hotels up Idrive start at £12.25/night, add taxis either way about $70-80. Works out same price but for a few £'s more you might pick up a lot better hotel. Many like the Quality Inn Plaza(others don't) for eg the total package would be £1,549ish.
I don't know hotels well up Idrive I dislike the area, avoid it wherever possible. Much prefer LBV area so you probably know hotels better than me.
Just a consideration as prices might vary next year, package might be best option but look at flydrive and flight only.
Have you all (over 12's) registered for Virgin Frequent flyer club? Your next trip will get over 8,000 miles added to each account which will then give you 2 trips to Florida for 4 of you at Miles and Money rate.
Sorry if you know all this.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for info much appreciated-In all the years i have been going to Disney i have never booked anything seperatley-i know you can save money that way but i always thought it was too much hassle? and so for quickness+convienence i always go for a package.
Me+hubby signed up for the Virgin Frequent Flyer Club last year(only found out about this from on here-so have been losing out probably for the last 17yrs), but when i mentioned this in Dec when i booked the Embassy Suites holiday(with VH) i was told that was nothing to do with them it was to do with VA.So i didn't get my miles-is that right?.
I did look at the Quality Inn Plaza but the only 2 things that put me off is you have to pay Mears for the shuttle to take you to the Disney parks, and from past experience at the Quality Inn this worked out really expensive, also it worked out about £350 dearer than staying at the Wynfield Inn and they included shuttles to Disney-we're just trying to save as much as we can to be able to go back pretty soon after next years holiday.x.

Hello, thanks for your info, much appreciated.Yes i know you really should'nt take Tripadvisor to heart with there comments, but i would be really upset if i never listened and found out it was all true when i got there!!!.But you sound like your experience was good thou.If you remember and you do go back this year maybe you could post on here what it's like now or if things have changed. So the restaurant is'nt in the hotel it's next door??.x.

Yeah, I'll definitely be doing a trip report, it helps with the counselling once you've returned to the UK! :lmao:

The restaurant is just in front of the Wynfield and does the best breakfasts in Orlando in my opinion, the waitresses are slightly more 'mature' than your average waitress, and they make a big fuss of the kids if you have them. The Wynfield does a basic 'grab and go' breakfast as well, good if you only want a light snack before heading to the parks.

It's a good basic hotel in a fantastic location. :thumbsup2

Even if you book with VH you can claim VA miles, you need to log into VA site, click on flying club then claim missing miles, you can claim upto 6 months afterwards. Worked for us no problem.

Miles and money can save a fortune, other times not worth using. Last Easter school hols we paid £291 each + 2,000 miles.
Booking seperate gives biggiest savings in school hols, not so much out of season, Package I have put together for August with 4 night cruise adn full size car totals about £2,600 for 3 adults, similar booked with VH was about £5,000

You talk about miles+money-does that mean i can only use them when using VA only-as in flights only? I can't use them if booking a package with VH.Sorry about all the questions-i'm not a stranger when it comes to Disney but i am on this. Thanks again.x.

Hi again,
Yes we have two young girls.I don't mind basic as long as it's clean, and for £1535,for 2 adults+2children for 2wks in Dec it sounded a good deal(although i know it will have gone up slightly as we want it for Dec 09 and i can only go on Dec 08 prices). Will deffinatley look out for your trip report. Thanks again.x.

You can't claim them until you have been, or you can hand in your cards at check in and get them added.
Yes you can only use them for flight only with VA not against VH, for VH you use the Frequent Virgin card.
Since we started booking seperate we go away 3 times a year for what we used to pay for 1 package in August. It is just as easy as booking a package. Hotel we are staying at in August is close enough to walk to Downtown Disney, free breakfast, free internet inroom, £21/night/room. free flight going out with VA using miles and a return flight with BMI for £235.
If you compare a Virgin package for 24 nights at wynfield for the same dates £3,711(incl 10% off)
We could do similar thing booking using miles for £1,511 but also at a better hotel.
Idependant travel to Florida is so so easy.

Under no circumstances book at the Wynfield. It is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. When we stayed there, it was a Virgin Flagship so we thought it would be of a good standard, how wrong we were....

Firstly the whole place is dirty - Their website is misleading, if you go to http://www.wynfieldinn.com/index.htm the picture top left is totally misleading and looks nothing like the view of the Wynfield.

When we got there the first thing we saw was a Swasticka carved into the door, the blinds didn't shut, we had cockroaches come and go at will and dirty linen.

You get what you pay for, there are people as well as me who could give you the name of a better hotel for the same money if you book direct.

For me, I'd say that it's in a great location and the Village Inn is a good place to eat. Stay somewhere and visit there.

Not sure I agree with that Kevin, the picture on the top left is the reception/check-in/breakfast area and looked pretty much like that when we visited friends who stayed there last year! :confused3

The second photo shows the accomodation which is pretty much standard in itself, whilst not doubting your own personal experience, I think it's fair to say that standards have improved greatly since.

I wouldn't stay in a hotel where you can get a deluxe room in September for $49 per night. That's less than we paid 10 years ago !! I have vivid memories of laundry being dried on balconies, people pants etc ! and gangs of Brits being pissed and up all night around the pool.

You get what you pay for.

I don't know about Wynfield but there are perfectly good hotels for $49/night. Last 2 Augusts we have stayed in Courtyard by Marriott, great hotel, 4/5 on tripadvisor and paid £25/night
Most people just pay OTT rates for hotels. For eg take the Rozen Plaza where you have stayed. 16th-19thSept nightly rate venere.com £99, Lastminute.com & ebooker.com £117, with a code and cashback on Hotelopia its £44/night.
The most expensive hotel I have stayed in was ASMovies at £60/night Xmas time, no way did we get what we paid for, I would never pay more than £25/night there.
There also tends to be a reverse economy in Orlando, the more you pay the less you get, stay in a $150/night room you will probably have to pay for internet connection, breakfast and fridge. Stay in a $49/night and they are usually included.
Like I say not disputing Wynfield comments but there are good hotels if you look.:goodvibes

The Wynfield Inn of 10 years ago is not the same place as now. Can't remember what is was called then, but I have looked at Trip Advisor and there are good and bad reviews.

Never stayed there myself but If I got a room that was as bad as some people say I would just go back to reception and demand another. Virgin has some clout so that may help in getting a good room. I have travelled with Virgin for over 20 years to Orlando and have never been given a gross room no matter how low a price I paid.

For the price you quote with Virgin flights, airport transfers as no car and transport to Disney and Universal you are not going to get a better price. I like Wayne have booked seperately for the last 5 years and get good prices for good hotels for under £25 per night, but we take the independent car booking option to get good prices and ability to travel around.

I suggest you wait for the trip report from Pudsey as you do not have to book for a while.

Trip Advisor is good but not always a balanced view as I once booked with Virgin for the Luxor in Las Vegas and Trip Advisor reviews said it was the pits. Needless to say it wasn't. I think a lot of the negative reviews can be from US folks, us UK folks are usually happy with the cheaper lower star hotel rooms as they are much better that UK standard.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your coments, much appreciated-yes i am deffinatley going to look out for Pudseys trip report.I thought the price i got(albeit for dec 08+not dec 09-which we want)was a fantastic price.I have stayed at the Quality Inn+had a roach, also stayed at the Holiday Inn+had ants, but all i done was mention it and they cleaned the room at the Quality Inn+changed our room at the Holiday Inn.Yes i have always travelled with Virgin+in my opinion they are very good when it comes to dealing with room complaints. It's just downright dirt+filth i don't like which can easily be cleaned.x.

The Wynfield of 10 years ago was still known as the Wynfield, It used to be a Virgin Flagship hotel, but the Virgin rep told me that they were no longer going to use it because of customer feedback. Yes we did go and demand another room..:thumbsup2

If it's just a place to crash and you haven't got kids, I'd stay there, but it just didn't come across as a good palce for a family.

Personally if you want a cheap hotel, I look at the Clarion, a far superior hotel for a similar price, with indoor corridors.

Never stayed at a Clarion, price is good for your dates in Dec 08 snowy £21.69/night
This is what I was saying about booking seperate and not doing Virgins package, You can look for a better hotel and probably pay around same price.
By next year things could totally change, they might not even offer anything at these prices then booking seperate would be a lot better value.

Thats with Hotelopia.com(owned by Tui/Thomsons) it comes up at about £29/night but I have a 15% discount code and claim 10% cashback thru rpoints.com (free to join)
As packages can change for next year so can amount of discounts and cashback with hotels.
I have booked here for August http://www.countryinns.com/orlandofl_wdwresort
Look at price for our 24 nights in August if you book direct $2,689.88 USD(approx £1,365 or £57/night) I have booked with hotelopia £21/night
Very rarely worth booking a hotel direct.

Either Google or ask me when you need a code, the one that is working just now is 31245630 for 15% off, sometimes they are only 8 or 10% but a good one just now. Other thing to do is is register for their newsletter but not sure if they send codes out to everyone or just if you have booked a hotel with them before.

We stayed at the Wynfield in 90 when it was still fairly new, it was O K then, nothing startling but in 96 we stayed again and it was starting to show its age. It did change its name (to the Premier I think ) but changed back a couple of years ago. It has been split into two hotels sharing facilities with I think Travelodge though I am not sure which. It is a basic hotel. There is a small shopping centre next to it garage, pizza place, pub,an ABC liqour store, a Bennigans and Steak-n-Ale resteraunt plus the Villlage Inn where you get 10 % discount. I think the I-Drive trolley stops at the front of the hotel, it is at the quetier end of the drive.

It's also worth noting that it isn't actually on I - Drive, It's on Westwood Blvd. I actually think it's in a good quiet position, with easy access to the freeway to Disney etc.

Thought it was called something else previously when I looked through brochures years ago.

The other hotels mentioned: Clarion and Country Inn are not on I Drive either.

If you are wanting to book a package holiday with Virgin and free transfers then check what is the cheapest in brochure that you can afford in the area that you want. Check Trip Advisor and boards and make your decision then.

If you are happy to book seperately as Wayne has said you can get much better hotels and you could always get a taxi or shuttle from the airport instead.

Good luck with your planning.

Booking everything seperate is the cheapest way to go, like others have said also, it gives you other options.

Hi Kevin,Hi Barbara,
Thanks again for your info, always appreciated. Will deffinatley look into booking seperatley next time-always on the lookout for saving a few pounds!!!.
Kevin, next year were staying at the Embassy Suites I-Drive South(love this end of I-Drive)-where in comparison is the Clarion Universal to that??I am assuming because it has Universal in the title it is up the other end of I-drive towards Wet+Wild??.x.
Anyone recommend me a nice, clean cheap(Must be cheap as were hoping to go the first 2 wks of Dec 09) hotel on I-Drive,i only really know of the hotels that are in the Virgin brochure as they are the only people i fly with and have booked with.Have stayed at Holiday Inn and Quality Inn I-Drive.We can't drive so shuttles to WDW+UNIVERSAL(especially free ones)are a must.Don't really want to use the Lynx buses to get to WDW-they do take a while!!!
TIA.x.

It's on Universal, just 2 mins walk to I-drive, it's just along from Wet N Wild.

The Wynfield of 10 years ago was still known as the Wynfield, It used to be a Virgin Flagship hotel, but the Virgin rep told me that they were no longer going to use it because of customer feedback. Yes we did go and demand another room..

I stayed there about 10 years ago too, and while I didn't notice much particularly unpleasant (except for a very uncomfortable pull-out camp bed) I was 11, and didn't really think about it. My mum, however, thought it was awful; she says it was untidy and noisy and unclean (I do remember cockroaches).

We went back for a look at it last year when we went to Florida (syaing somewhere else) and my parents didn't thinkit had changed much at all. There are a few shops right next to it which were a bit scabby, and a horrible chinese all-you-can-eat that my mum remembered with less-than-fond memories. Alltogether, it looked a bit run-down, and not much changed from 10 years ago. My mum definatley wouldn't reccomend it.

However, the diner/pancake house (called the Village Inn I think) which is next door is lovely. We went for breakfast everyday when we stayed there (they were great with kids), and even 10 years later, we still went there a couple of evenings in our 2 weeks for their pancakes. It's a really nice, freindly, lovely place to eat - and it's about 5 minutes walk from SeaWorld (if you walk towards Int. Drive I believe).

We saved £100's by booking a flydrive with Virgin and then booking Embassy suites with alpha rooms.
The Wyndham is quite nice but I imagine that Embassy suites are cheaper, figuring the free breakfasts into the equation.

Hi all
we stopped the the wynfield inn/ villager premier 4 times and as the years went on it had got more dirty and run down which is such a shame as we loved the location. our last visit was a nightmare. rooms were dirty, first room was full of rubbish and beds were un made. we then had to hang around while the room was prepared for us, then to find hour in my son was being bitten by bugs which when lifting the carpet up were loads of,then tried to put us in a disabled room which was ok but it was designed for a wheelchair user so everything was very low to the ground. 3rd room was then flooded by the room above by faulty plumbing 2 days later.no other rooms were available and couldnt get hold of the virgin rep had to spend a day with carpet dryers and a nice smell.

rant over :rotfl2: in summary thumbs down here
