If I missed anyone or if anyone else wants to play just post on here and I'll add you. The teams were picked randomly and I mixed runners run/walkers and walkers.


Each member will add their miles to the running total, captains will just have to add their own hours. We will have to running totals, one for miles and one for hours.

The hours total is for total hours exercised in a day. So if you walk 3 miles in an hour and took a hour yoga class you would and 3 miles to the miles total and 2 hours to the hours total. If a team choses to not compete in the hours competition that's fine but there will be prizes at the end of the year for the team that has the most miles and the team whose members exercised the most hours.

If you have a day that you did aerobics, and a dance tape for 3 hours but did no miles you would only add 3 hours to the hours total and nothing to the miles. A walker who does 20 miles in 6 hours would add 20 to miles and 6 to hours. A runner who did 20 miles in 3 hours would add 20 to miles and 3 to hours.

This is an exercise for fun and motivation so, no name calling, no poking, no elbowing and especially no mooning. However a little good natured "Trash talking" is encouraged. I imagine that Mr Bill can sling some bull droppings.


I didn't see Robert, Linda, Judy, Charlie, Cam, Howard Martha and Craig on the sign-up list if you guys want on just give me a shout.

On Feb 1st the Team Captains will start the thread for their team to log on for the year. Captains please ask your team to pm you name suggestions.

The game will run till Dec 31st and prizes will be given out at the Pop Party.

Some of the teams might appear stronger than others but it's a long year. As we get into the later months a lot of our athletes will be really piling on the miles. In addition there will be injuries and LTO issues. I tried to put one or 2 high milage people on each team.

Darlin, you can just appoint a co-captain. Actually the captain is basicly just the spark to keep your team pumped up. The captain will start the initial post on Feb 1st but the members all add to it from there. Each team will only have one post. Each member is responsible for posting their on times and hours and adding to the team running total so that isn't a problem.

If you go on a trip just let the team know and when you return do a lump sum post of all your miles and hours from the trip if there were any. You will of course keep your team in line, I don't wanna hear of anyone posting who is not properly dressed with all the naughty parts covered.

You guys are not gonna win anyway, we are.:cool1:

A couple of points of clarification for record-keeping. Does biking count for both miles & time? I think earlier discussion indicated yes?? What about elliptical trainers? I know some of us use it in training, between training, or recovery, but I'm not sure as I think of it as XT.

And, um, Team One? Just call yourself "Fear." Cuz I laugh in the face of it, especially when I'm trash talking! :lmao:

There is a movie called "Cool Runnings" about the Jamacian Bob Sled team. There coach was trying to get them to imulate the Champion Swiss team. They finally realized they were not Swiss but Jamacian, so when they started being themselves instead of trying to be Swiss they started doing much better.

I had a few ideas. I had come up with WISH Warriors or Lime Green Locos or Team Endurance.

I teach during the day, so it takes me a bit to catch up in the evenings. I like the ideas so far. DH and I have been coming with some ideas:

He waffled on the May Minnie trip on Monday when I found cheap airfare because I didn't know how much I could get a room for...and now the airfare is high again. I think he feels bad!

I'm off to the gym (it feels so late to do this!) for a couple miles on the treadmill. Gotta get the mileage up for the competition!

I hope this competition does not create sub-groups that share training advice and planned events amongst themselves rather than continuing to do so with everyone as has occurred with other Groups/Threads That Shall Not Be Named.

We are just a bunch of pods off of the mother plant called WISH :) I KNOW that I will never lose sight of the bigger picture..... that we are AS A WHOLE a Team.... this is just a motivational exercise.... And even with the trash talking... I believe each team will inpspire, motivate, compliment and cheer for every other team.. because that team's members are part of our family... that is the difference. These are just temporary Teams..... WISH is Family, which is forever... I guess that's how I see it. Thank you Bill for putting out that little reminder though... to keep everyone focused!

Bill, I second Sandy's thoughts here. I only went to the gym tonight because there were so many WISHers who have been so encouraging (my imaginary workout friends).

Intrateam scrimmage sounds good. But I like that doing it this way means that the groups are small enough that if I start to slip, there are people who will notice and call me out! :D

Team 4 members on today, we have had some concerns expressed that Going Goofy does not represent the entire team as some are not into the Goofy thing. So, I have come up with some alternate suggestions:

Wow, I went to work and it took me all morning to catch up. GO TEAM!!!

I have everyone updated to this point. Every team is even with the exception of the team with our triathletes, they are short one. I'm sure that slot will be filled quickly. Scuba Diver I moved you to make things even I hope you don't mind. Another team needed your strength.

I think seperate threads for each team will be the easiest to keep up with. Rest assured I will instigate special threads to allow the trash to pile up. But one thread would do like this and take all a persons workout time to catch up on.

Bill this whole board is based on mutual restect and support for each other and the team compition will help us get to know each other better. But yes you are absolutly right trash team to team not person to person unless you know the person, the way you, Robert, Vic, Mike, Craig and I do.

Of course you can still cheer for individual members of other teams, we are all still the WISH team. We are just choosing up sides for a friendly scrimiage.

New people don't worry about not being as big an asset to your team as some others. This compitition is a tool to help you keep going during the year, it helps to have all you can get when the going is rough.

I hope everyone is recovering nicely and ready to go on the 1st.

Next, Team Number One, in light of Bill's post, I have one more name suggestion to toss out, a kinder and gentler and less trash-talking name, for those on the team who want to DIStroy the competition in a quieter manner. But first, it requires a little background (never a good sign)...

I was going through the lost and found photos looking for my castle shot (I never seem to get a decent castle shot) and came across a bunch of photos of a guy I had, ahem, noticed before the race. A lot of his pictures are in the lost and found, which makes sense since there is really no reasonable or safe place to pin a number when you are only wearing a skin tight white speedo.:rolleyes1

So anyway, when I was in the corrals and he walked by, I remember wondering, quite innocently of course, whether those were available in WISH green and whether our dashing WISH warriors would be willing to adopt them as a new team uniform when the lady next to me, following my gaze, said "Well, I found my moving buddy!"

So, there's my kinder, gentler team name suggestion -- Moving Buddies. Its got a Disney reference, and we're all going to be moving and buddies throughout.

Oh, and if any of the pretty princesses want links to the lost and found pix, just let me know. ;)

I was going through the lost and found photos looking for my castle shot (I never seem to get a decent castle shot) and came across a bunch of photos of a guy I had, ahem, noticed before the race. A lot of his pictures are in the lost and found, which makes sense since there is really no reasonable or safe place to pin a number when you are only wearing a skin tight white speedo.:rolleyes1

So anyway, when I was in the corrals and he walked by, I remember wondering, quite innocently of course, whether those were available in WISH green and whether our dashing WISH warriors would be willing to adopt them as a new team uniform when the lady next to me, following my gaze, said "Well, I found my moving buddy!"



I don't know about this one. For some reason, I am just not feeling the "love" for the name, especially after the back ground. Maybe its just me, but men in thongs just don't inspire me.:confused3

If the teams get too large.. as they are starting to... the tallying and such will become way too much for the captains.... Rather than adding people to teams can we add another team??? Before we get going... maybe we should make a few more smaller teams now.. and then have the ability to add on as we go?

Just a suggestion... as.. I want this to be fun for us captains too!! And keeping up with the threads.. and adding mileage... and keeping track of 12 or more people seems a little daunting to me at this point!! :scared1:

Kathy I just need another volunteer for captain and we can do another team. It has grown already more than I anticiaped.

Need a CAPTAIN anyone interested? All you have to do is do the starting post on Feb 1st and help your team pick a name and be the cheer leader for the year. It pays great and the works is easy and rewarding.

Bill that was Vic in the speedo, so if you wanna captain another team???? It might even help you stay focused.

Thank you Carrie, we will let the request run the rest of the day and see if anyone else will volunteer.

I will have to move people around again when we do but I will try to keep training partners and spouses together.

I never imagined this would go over so well I actually thought maybe 20 or so might want to. But hey this will make it way better since we can get to know each other better especially the newer members.

Ok here is the deal: I have 12 players plus a captain on each team, that will be the maximum number for each team. I have one more slot open on Carrie's team then we will be full.

After that one slot is filled then we will have to start a new team. Which will require a captain. Or we can have a sub list for temp replacement of a player on injured reserve. If we get another 12 we will start a new team.

Tink Darlin, I had to start a new team so I moved you to team 7, with hubby of course.

I'm sorry to everyone I had to move but that is why I started this thread early. I'm trying to keep team strengths about the same and keep everyone together with their spouses and training partners.

We are pretty even now with the exception of team 7 needing 1 more player. After that we will have to start a sub/reserve pool unless we get enouth for another team.

Seems I'm a little late to this party. I was getting my emails from the original thread suggesting this friendly competition thinking there wasn't much activity yet. Imagine my surprise when I go to the main page of the board today and see a 16 page thread on this! Yikes!

I'm all ready for Feb. 1, but I'll be "flying the friendly skies" that day for a weekend away so I won't be able to officially check in until Monday. I'll be cheering though as I fly over the country so listen for me!

A question in regards to "allowability of what is considered exercise": Does playing Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) count? :woohoo: When I play on the Difficult level (3rd of 4), I sweat more than I do running sometimes!

I might reconsider after seeing what I look like after finishing Sgt. Vic's 11 month Kickin' Butt Boot Camp. Further as to the gladiator outfit though, I doubt there is enough BodyGlide out there to let me get away with trying a marthon or half marathon in one of those, especially if the outfit is worn in the traditional Scottish kilt manner.

I interrupt this thread to express a personal concern.

In reading some posts, I have noticed some people expressing their feelings of now being part of a team. I have been posting and annoying people on this WISH forum for about a year, but am a newbie when it comes to events, having only participated in the ToT 6.5K so far in my illustrious endurance event career. I hope everyone remembers, however, that we all have been and are still part of the WISH Racing Team. Think of this event as an intra-squad scrimmage designed to further inspire us to stay healthy.

I hope this competition does not create sub-groups that share training advice and planned events amongst themselves rather than continuing to do so with everyone as has occurred with other Groups/Threads That Shall Not Be Named.
