Hi, I was wondering if there was a nice public beach in nassau that is relatively easy to get to? We may do an early snorkeling excursion, and may want to hit the beach after for some fun in the sun. Not sure about taking a taxi to Atlantis Beach, but don't know what our other options for beaches are. Thanks! Sue

I'll bump this up for you. I have the same question, too. We are looking for a beach that is not OVERcrowded, if you know what I mean. ;) Great water, great beach, and not packed in like sardines is what we are looking for. We don't mind taking a taxi. We'll probably bring lunch with us, so restaurants are not all that important. Any suggestions or pro's and con's for certain beaches?

There is a public beach on Paradise Island that is accessible by cab for $4 to $5 per person each way. The crowd depends on the time of year, but it's usually not too bad. There is a hotel next door where you can use the restrooms. There are no beach chairs so bring towels to lay out on. There are some vendors selling drinks, trinkets, etc., but they are not pushy if you just tell them "No, thanks." There are also jet ski rentals, parasailing, and banana boat rides. If you are interested in any of those things, be sure to bargain. Also, buyer beware...hubby rented a jet ski there once that conked out on him in the middle of the ocean. He was stuck out there till he drifted to shore by a resort, and he never got a refund.

Just tell them "Public beach on Paradise Island" and they will know exactly what you are talking about. We actually discovered it on the recommendation of a taxi driver.

Beware of renting the jet skis. I rented one with my two kids and when we were done they said we damaged the jet ski and charged me an extra $60. I refused to pay, but eventually gave in after about an hour and a half of hell. Just a warning, don't want anyone to have to go through what my family and I had to deal with.
