Hello. This will be our first trip to WDW in may. I have been reading some of the forums and have found very usefull information. I want to ask, is it a good idea to book a disney vacation package with a travel agent, or is it better to do everything by myself? Thank you very much.

:welcome:

It really all just depends on how much time and energy you want to put into it. Disney keeps the package prices fairly standard, so it is pretty difficult to find a better price by going from one place to another. You will probably get the exact same price from a TA that you will get if you price it yourself.

The biggest advantage of a good TA is that they can help you make decisions that you may not even know you need to make! They can help you make Advanced Dining Reservations. A good TA will keep track of if any discounts come out and will apply them automatically to your trip and save you some money.

You can do all those things yourself, it just is a matter of if you want to spend the time and energy to check the boards daily, or several times a day to see if a discount is or has come out and making the calls. And if you want to spend the time on the phone getting your ADR's. It is really just a matter of personal choice.

Dreams Unlimited sponsors the DISboards and they are Disney experts. They provide a no obligation quote so you can compare it to a price you get yourself. Take a look at what else they can do for you here: http://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/vacationplanning/index.htm

Thank you for your answer. Do you know about Small world vacations? I found them in a disney unofficial site.

I booked mine through AAA last August (for this August.) AT the time, I didn't know much about Disney and figured I should go with the pros. And I most certainly wanted the AAA discount. (Regardless of who does your booking, be sure you are an AAA member and get that discount!!)

Now, after 4 months on the DIS, I feel I could BE a travel agent.

As you ponder agent or no agent, start looking at resorts and price categories. It's your first-- and most expensive-- decision.
