Has anyone done the banana boat at Castaway Cay? I don't even know what it is!! :( Can someone offer me some idea of what you do and if this is worth doing? Also, what do you recommend for a 14 year old who wants to snorkel on Castaway Cay? Should he bring his own equipment or buy one of the packages? Where is the best place to do this? Let me know....

Thanks,

Banana Boat is the funnest thing around! It's a raft pulled by a motorboat. Now picture that raft as 2 large inflatable bananas, side by side. Four people sit on each banana, front to back, holding onto a strap and with their legs. You wear a life vest (forget sunglasses!). Motorboat takes off, you get sprayed. They check to see if you're having fun....then you get wetter, and wetter, and please hold on! :D It is a blast. I've never laughed so hard in my life. DD(10) loved it. Cost about $14pp, I think. Lots of fun.
Snorkeling....If you bring your own equipment, you save about $25pp. You are required to wear a vest, which they will give you free. There is an area set aside at the beach with several "trails" to snorkel. Go early, as the sand gets kicked up and makes it difficult to see later in the day.

We did Banana Boating this past December at CC. It was a blast. It is a long inflatable "banana" type raft that 8 people sit on (4 on each side) while it is pulled at fast speed by a jet ski. You get very wet, of course, and if in front a lot of salty water in the face. An absolute blast. My 7 year old son and 8 year old daughter did it with us. Also my 17 year old neice had a blast as well. You get life jackets, and they instruct you as to what to do if you need them to stop etc. The kids loved it so much, we did it 2 times. Cost, I beleive was $14 per person for about a 10 minute trip (as I said, don't miss this, you and your 14 year old will have a blast -- well worth it!!!).

We also rented snorkeling equipment, and it was nice, but not as colorful as I had experienced at other islands. Nice fish, but no coral. Still, my 8 y/o daughter had a good time with it.

Finally, my 8 y/o daughter and I did the tandem parasailing at CC(I know what you're thinking, what an expensive day). She found this to be the best of all 3 excursions we did. I was very comfortable and felt quite safe with this. This was on the expensive side, but I knew it would be quite sometime before we ever had the chance to do it again.

Hope this was of some help for you. Any other ???, just ask, and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

Can an overweight person do this (like about 250 lbs)?

I don't believe there is a weight restriction on this. We had an overweight gentleman (not that I'm the perfect specimen, either 5'4" 173 lbs woman) on our boat. Hold on and ENJOY!

You'll have fun.

we did the banana boat both at St Maarten and CC. wear goggles if you have them!!!!

loads of fun and if you fall off, they slow down and you climb back on.

our 8 yr old did it both times. I think I remember the age limit being 8.

I second the goggle suggestion! Salt water + sunscreen in the eyes = pain.
