I've got an Canon XTi:

To battery grip or not to battery grip? What does everyone think of them? Can you use 1 battery in them (it says you can use up to two of them)

I considered getting one but once I'd used my XT for a while and saw how good the battery life is, I didn't see the need for a grip. If the camera feels small in your hands, you might consider it though

Yes, you can use them with just one battery.

I love portrait grips. I find the camera to be much more comfortable to hold and use. I only take mine off when I'm trying to travel light. I also love using the hand strap, which only works with the battery grip on.

I have the rebel XT and the grip is with out a doubt the very best accessory there is for that camera. I never thought the camera was too small or was difficult to hold, but with the grip it is so much easier to hold and use, especially if you have any lens bigger than the kit.. That is not even considering the added benefit of the vertical controls or the added battery.

I took it off once and I couldn't believe the difference. It never comes off now.
