Ok, so I passed by the cool commemorative photo/box display booths at the expo but this being my first marathon I didn't want to pay the money and then not finish or something like that. Well, now I would like one and am wondering if there's any way to order a box that comes with the medal, your nam and time, and possibly a photo or something along those lines. Any recommendations, tips, or suggestions for vendors, etc is greatly appreciated. If any of you have purchased these in the past, are they worth it, what came with your package, and where did you purchase it?
Thanks,
Kristin

I ordered one from Crossing the Line (www.ctlproducts.com) after my first full. I absolutely love it!

I ordered one from Fond Memories last year for my first 1/2, and then again this year for my first marathon.
They do a wonderful job, IMO.

I'm a bit tight on $$ right now so I plan to mat and frame mine myself. I also plan to make one for DDs bib, medal and photo from the kids races. I'll be using the ones on those websites for layout ideas though since I've never shadowboxed something like this before, just regular prints/artwork. Hopefully they'll turn out okay.

Thanks all,
I went to the fond memories site and think I will order something from there. Only problem is I can't seem to remember which ones I liked best at the expo because I was sort of on sensory overload at the time. I'm debating between the shadow box or the bib frame. Any opinions on which is better?

There is another company that does a really nice job of framing medals for a much better price.

I have bought 4 Goofy and one Coast to Coast 5 Medal set from FM. They are really nice!

I bought the goofy set from fond memories last year. I love it! I think it took 4 - 6 weeks to arrive if I remember correctly.

I have the basic brass shadow box from Fond Memories. It contains the medal, the official race logo, and my name and finish time. I think I've gotten 6 or 7, so obviously I think they are pretty nice.

I ordered mine from Marathon Frames because I did not really like the brass colored frames that Fond Memories sells. Mine is a beautiful wood shadow box with my picture, replica bib, medal, a brass plate with name and finish time, and a brass runners insignia. I could not be happier! I have seen the displays at expos, and I think that mine looks much nicer than those, and the price is actually better. The owner is really nice too.

I got mine last year and love the blk shadow box
with bib. Last year they put the code in our
marathon bags, but I didn't get one this year.
Did they give out a code this year?

I wish I had seen this post earlier, but I hope my input will be beneficial to those for 2010 & beyond:
I saw the fondmemoriesgraphics Goofy plaque #6504 on the web and thought it looked super, but when I saw it at the expo in 2009, the main portion of the plaque was not wood, but matte board with a metal frame. The website says wood, but that's not what I saw at the expo. That made the price not worth it to me, and started looking elsewhere.
I looked at crossingtheline and eventually got plaque #18442. I am very happy with it. It came with bibs and medals, is quite a bit larger, has a nice graphic on the matte board for the background instead of just black, and was $100 cheaper! They actually print your name and times on the background instead of on a small brass plate. I only needed to add two 5X7 photos.

Probably a silly question but do you have to put your own medal in the boxes? I like to have mine so every once in a while if I want I can just prance around with it on lol. (Joking, but just in case!)

The ones we've got from Fond Memories come with their own medals already in them. Don't know about the others companies.

Perhaps they just had the wrong one or something, because my father has gotten a Goofy one (6504) from them every year (4 yrs) and all of them have had a black wood frame.

We have really liked the products offered by www.lastingcommemoratives.com besides the Disney races they offer products for any race. they include medals and duplicate bibs for the races they attend. Currently they are running a 10off promotion to promote their new website
