My friend walked the Donald this past weekend and asked at the expo about the Minnie. She said they told her a decision would probably be made this week or next once the marathon weekend stuff dies down, but they may cancel it because, according to the people she spoke with, it only has about 100 registered participants.
Did anyone else hear this? I'm going to be unhappy if I make arrangements to go down there and it gets cancelled!

all I kept hearing was how many had signed up for the Minnie, and I'd remark, I hear its the last year - they thought I was making it up!!
I'm so.... disallusioned, it wouldnt surprise me if they cancel and claim it was low sign up when it has more to do about money and logistics - the volunteers and water, highway shutdowns etc...

Noooo we've booked our family holiday around doing this- i will be gutted (and in soooo much trouble) is the minnie doesn't go ahead. If that 100 figure is true then a massive proportion must be dissers?

Well make it 101, I am going to send in my application this week. Hopefully they will give people some time to get theirs in.

Oh-no! I was getting ready to book hotel and make flight arrangements. I wonder if I should hold off until they make an announcement next week. I don't want to pay for airline tickets and then get stuck with credits.
Wow! Just when I had talked DFi into joining the race too ... I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I just registered a couple of days ago, too. And bought plane tickets. I'll be very disappointed if it gets cancelled.

Wow - this is disturbing. The last I heard was that this would be the last year for the Minnie, but that they are going to have it. I have already made my flight and hotel arrangements.
I was in the first 2 Minnie's and each was pretty small (less than 2000). I know the full and half in Jan are huge, but I believe that the other races that occur at Disney are more on the scale of the Minnie - like the Race for the Taste (2600), Tower of Terror 14K (2600) and the Komen 5K had only 495!!! So why pick on Minnie when we have already heard that this is her last year anyway before they chagne it to Princess theming and a half for the distance?
Everybody keep your fingers crossed!

I will be VERY dissapointed if they cancel the Minnie. My neice will be upset as well since she was planning doing the 5k. I haven't made my reservations yet (waiting on FL Res or AP rates first) but that will really be a bummer if its canceled!!

I think ToT had 3,000 in the 13k and another 1,000 in the 6.5k. Since they were run on the same route (and spectators were charged another $25 to watch the race) I think that race was probably pretty profitable...

Interesting how we find different numbers for this stuff...I looked at race results to see the number of finishers :goodvibes

I think the number of finishers is less then number of entrants - I think all Disney is worried about is the amount of people who paid registration fees. They don't care if they didn't show up.
If they do cancel the Minnie I am sure they would have to refund us the money. Right? I am just wondering since they say the money is non-refundable but that would really stink if they didn't refund the registration fee.

I can't imagine them cancelling the race.
I mentioned for a long time that Disney was going to end the Minnie after 08 because the numbers aren't there compared to other races. Disney is used to races selling out not have day before race registration.
The 15K isn't sexy. 1/2 are and that's what they will replace it with.

I ran the ToT 6.5K and they told us as we were waiting to start that there were 4000 people signed up between the 13 and 6.5K.
I just hope they don't cancel it as this is something I really want to run, and get a Minnie medal.

Hi,
I'm mostly a lurker here but I have to comment. I really hope this isn't true. I'm already booked and excited about running my second Minnie. I was planning on sending in my DVC application this week. This definitely is pushing me to get it in. Maybe if everyone like me who's been procrastinating signs up, the numbers will look better.
Let's keep our fingers crossed. I thought it was a great event.

So 4 miles is what it takes to be sexy around here, huh? Probably they're thinking Minnie isn't as sexy as the princesses as well.....I wouldn't have thought that "sexy" would be so important for a Disney Race - Shows what I know!
So now, I'm trying to decide which of the princesses could actually finish a half marathon. Maybe Cinderella, if she had some better shoes. Her story does feature some distance running. And Snow White - there was that whole "run away and never come back" thing with the huntsman. But this is getting off the subject.
I'm going back to crossing my fingers about this year. Maybe now the Marathon is over, people will be on to the next thing and register for the ::MinnieMo ??

I'd say Mulan could possibly finish since she was a tough cookie!

I'm guessing Aurora would get swept somewhere near the starting line, unless she is a fast sleep walker. Ariel, of course, would probably have the best cardio (I hear swimming is great for that), but might have difficulty depending on what body form she happens to be in at race-time.

Oh, I hope not. I've just decided to train for the 15K!!! ugh!
I wonder if Jasmine used the magic carpet if she would be disqualified??? :goodvibes

Pocahontas would run circles around those other princesses.
I'm thinking she and Ariel would make a good triathalon team, but who should do the biking leg?

Belle might be tougher than she looks, especially if The Beast is training her....

Nahh, I think it would be difficult for Belle, what with her nose in a book and all. My money is on Pocahontas.
Unless Nala counts as a princess.
And there is a wildabeast at the finish line.

my vote is with pochahantas as well--even barefoot.
Cinderella would be in trouble, with only one shoe and all....

OK, I got all wrap up in the Princess thing and forgot to post my original comment!
I think that weekend is cursed! The in-line marathon was originally scheduled for May 4, 2008. Minnie was moved there when the in-line was canceled. Now there are Minnie cancelation rumors.
Oh, this whole thing makes me Grumpy.

:rotfl2: Princesses!! :rotfl2:
Poor Minnie - I love the show at the Castle when Mickey Tells Minnie that she will always be his Princess...
(yes, I'm a bit goofy too!!)
and I'm registered at Tourguide Mike - and there is a thread there with quite a few registered Minnie folks - just sayin... so there HAS to be more than 100 registered is all I'm saying!!

Totally Pocahantas for the half.
Maybe she and Mulan could do a Muddy Buddy event?

Sandy- me, too! And my husband always says, "You're my princess" after Mickey tells Minnie that!
DH asked me today *which days in May do I need to take off for that trip?*
Which means....
I can go!!!
*crosses fingers* please don't cancel, please don't cancel, please don't cancel....

My vote is for Mulan! Besides she has that wonderful song to run too (can't think of the lyrics something like 'as swift as a raging river' LOL)
I've been registered for the 15K since the day it opened. :thumbsup2 I want my MINNIE!
If they cancel it then I'll be doing the Grumpy LOL May the force be with any who cross my path that day at the local park.
I'll be on edge till we hear what they decide to do. If they cancel then I'll probably head to the Piggy. Guess I better find some hills to sing and run on. Oh and that will totally screw up my spring races. They will need to make a decision asap. I want to be able to sign up and plan where I am running this spring.

I don't think Mulan is actually a princess, per se. Though I agree, she'd be able to do the miles. Especially if she had the song "I'll make a man out of you." in her iPod shuffle. If they were allowed, that is. ;)
I'm excited for this last Minnie - it's on my half-birthday. Not that that counts for anything.....they don't have HALF-birthday buttons at guest services, after all.

So, she's not really a princess, but I just happened to think that Meg is the only one who might actually have the opportunity to run from Marathon to Athens.
OK, I need a life.

Techinically, Mulan is not a princess. Not sure about Pocohantas. But they are definietly ones who cacould do a half. Not sure about Meg. Only saw teh movie once, so I can't remmber her being phyisical, ut non of teh "real" princess could make it.
I was wondering wher a friend had heard tehy might cancel. Ugh. Now I know. I know many signed up after we got home, so maybe that will help.\
I think showing teh medal at the expo was a huge key this year that they did not have last year.
