Need Help!!

We are planning to book our first Xmas at Disney (Dec. 22-Jan.3?) and when calculating points I realized that the 26th and 27th are very high because they are falling on the weekend. How do most of you handle this?? Do you just forget about the points being eaten up or do you change accomodations for those two high nights?? How do you determine what is would cost for a 1 brm if we decided to pay cash for those nights?? Thanks!!

True DVC veterans will maximize their points by staying at DVC resorts Sun-Thurs and use cash ressies to stay Fri-Sat nights. This requires some coordination between DVC and CRO with the hope that you will not have to move rooms in the process, but it can be done...if you are insistant and don't take no for an answer. There is always the chance that you will have to move rooms, but for the true DVC money saver, the $$$ savings is worth it.

For me, I am willing to give up some to get some, so I would only stay one weekend night and come back a day early. 6 days at WDW is not much different than 7 days and it may give me more flexability with flights and save me $$$. I would then save the points for a future vacation or bank the points into the following year.

I know some switch to a stuido for the weekends(you burn half the points-roughly)...if you have a ton of points.

When we purchased DVC, we calculated how many points we'd need based on a week's stay at the times of the year that we'd be most likely to travel. Therefore, we book our unit for a week and stay put. We have 3 kids, ages 8, 6, and 1, so there's no way I'm moving during my trip - too much stuff to pack and unpack. However, if we were travelling without kids or when our kids are older, we might consider moving during our stay to save some points.

We will most likely move to a studio from the 26th to the 3rd rather than use 150 pts for the two nights. That's so many!! How does one find out the cost for a room with our discount?? or is there a discount at that time of the year. Thanks for the help. Joan

I guess I'm not a true DVC veteran then. I bought DVC to handle my WDW accommodation needs and use points for weekends every trip. Some day I hope to make it to True Veteran status! ;)

Yep, that's what we do too. I looked at it as a week at a time when we first joined. Now I maximize by staying 11-12 nights with only one full weekend. That seems to be best for us.

True DVC veterans will go ahead and use points for the entire stay because that is why we bought them in the first place.

After a while 'points is points' or at least, that's what I'm starting to say. We are going in December and booking through the weekend on points. Granted, it's not the 'Premier' season, but it is double the weekday points.
