And the manufacturer's designs look really different and innovative. This is the same company who just made Crush's Coaster for the Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris.

No word on what the coaster will actually be themed after until a formal announcement but it's expected to open in 2009.

It's good to know that NBC-Universal has finally decided to invest some capital into their theme park ventures.

Could it be for the Harry Potter area???

It's doubtful, since it sounds as if it will be in US and not in IOA.

Screamscape is reporting that the location on the permits filed are portions of lots 6 and 12 which are the Universal theme park and a soundstage!!

OOOOH - exciting! Only one more way that Universal keeps getting me to come back (although, it doesn't take much!)

There were concept drawings linked to back months ago. It showed a coaster that went out over the entrance to US. Anyone remember where those concept pics were posted?

There were pics posted of the Hollywood Dream Coaster in Japan

This coaster doesn't sound similar.

These were concept drawings, and I think it was a suspended coaster. Can't remember where they came from.
Just tried to do a search and didn't find anything. Oh well, I don't think I dreamed it

I don't think I like it. the new coaster should be in Islands, not the Studios. it is only going to make the Studios look like a 6-flags. nope, not crazy about it being in the Studios. at. all. besides, how does this new coaster relate to movies? it doesn't. you are suppose to "ride the movies" at the Studios. If I want to ride coasters I will walk over to Islands.
I'm all for more coasters, but put them where they belong.

All good points. That is, assuming we knew anything at all about this new coaster.

The Studios is where you "ride the movies". I'm excited that they might fulfill that promise and add a new "ride".

I'm sure they are going to theme the coaster to the movies. There are no details right now, so it's anyones guess.

BTW~ The Mummy ride is a roller coaster & it's themed very well to a movie. I have high hopes that the new coaster will be too :thumbsup2 .

Mummy is one of the most popular rides at Universal. I can see why they would want to put another coaster in there.

If you don't like it, don't ride it - it will just serve to draw more crowds away from your favorites.

It's win-win.

Yes, but you can't see the Mummy from all over the park. again it will only make the Studios look like a 6-flags.

No, I'm going to ride it over and over again just because I don't want too. :rotfl:

Besides, I never said I DIDN'T want to ride the thing. I just think it will take away from the movie studio feel of the park. I've been going to the Studios since it first opened. back then you felt like you were in an actual working movie studio. when they start adding BIG METAL OUTDOOR coasters, it starts feeling like a 6-flags. I can get that in Atlanta.

I say keep the coaster. but put it in a more suitable place like Islands.

Well, if anyone can theme it well and blend it in, it's Universal. Maybe surround it with sky-painted panels. You hear the roar of the coaster, look up, and don't see anything. :)

BTW - I'm all for adding additional roller coasters in IOA as well. :)

Must say I would rather it be a metal coaster than a wooden one and then you could say it would be six flags like and I live close to a six flags and even if Universal adds the coaster which looks like they are you can't compare them to six flags.
Universal is an awsome Park something a six flags could never be.

If that's the case - should be good - Crush's Coaster is fantastic - rode it twice in October

Yeah we need to know more as you never know what the coaster will be themed to and who knows is if it will even be totally outdoors?

Agreed, Universal hasn't even announced anything yet, right now it's just putting the paperwork together.

I like the ideal of a big coaster at universal , although the theming or fitting in part will be interesting to see, maybe the theming could be of a sound/music type of thing , like the led zepplin the ride, it has a onboard
music system timed to the ride. I just hope it don't look like somebody
drop a roller coaster on top of a bunch of buildings.(japan)

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a lot of themeing. It might be in the vein of Hulk, Hollywood Dream and King Kong coaster being built in Dubai or Singapore.

EDIT: The picture's ginormous. You can click to see the model for King Kong on the left.
