Ladies,
I'm putting this up early because I have to go teach in the morning. Sometimes RL gets in the way of Dising....
So, Here are the rules for the Spring Secret Sister Swap. You are making a three month commitment when you sign up for this swap. Please remember that when considering if you would like to sign up.
You will need to mail you secret sister a package on March 1st, April 1st and May 1st.
1st package- $.41 envelope. Mail on March 1st
2nd Package- Box - $20 minimum. Mail on April 1st
3rd package- Homemade surprise. Mail on May 1st
To sign up, please cut and paste these questions into a PM for Buffy (Bernardandmissbianca) and I (mickeyteacher)- We will collect them all and then give out buddies when the sign ups close on January 20th.
Please be specific in your answers. This will help your buddy get you the things that you want and/ or use. Please no YES or No answers. These types of answers make it really hard on your buddy.
Please let me know if you have any other questions

just sent off my survey! can't wait to do this again!

Question on the .41 envelope, how many items could possibly fit? I couldn' find the thread to the last swap.

Thanks for hosting Shawna and Buffy :flower3:

I see you've asked if people mind mailing internationally - won't the game be given away with the first package as it will have to have the senders name and address on?

I am sooooooo tempted but its not on my list!

Yippee!! I'm totally in as this was SO MUCH FUN last time. Sending PM shortly.

Mommy2mrb - You can fit lots of light stuff in an envelope like ribbon, fiber, brads, and eyelets. If I know this group though, those envelopes will be more like the $1.10 size. AWM was my buddy the last time we did the $0.41 swap and my package cost $1.30 to send. It was bubble mailer and I had stickers, ribbon, fiber, brads, and some other stuff in there. It was still pretty cheap to pack a bunch of goodies inside.

pretty in tink and I would both like to do the spring secret sister. She asked if there is going to be one for kids this time too. I didn't see anything about that here. Also, could we put a limit on the size of the envelopes, like a legal business envelope or something so that they are all the same size? I noticed that the 41 cent swap didn't really work as a 41 cent swap because many different envelopes were used, including a priority envelope. Just seems that people won't feel unsure about what they are really doing. I know I felt like what I sent wasn't going to be enough. Not complaining about what I received either-Faerie did a great job. :thumbsup2

We'll be sending our pm's soon.

Oh, I was going to use a small bubble envelope... some stuff will pooch out the regular paper envie too much. I wanted to send a pack of brads, ribbon spool, jolees... that type of thing...

:confused3 So, I guess mine was going to be of the $1.?? variety :)

BernardandMissBianca
01-16-2008, 01:42 PM
don't forget the Post office will charge more if the envelope pooches out. It has to fit in the little cardboard slot thingy. Real technical sounding isn't it! :rotfl2:

so we may want to look at changing the 41¢ to something else, I don't know what but something.

I'm pretty sure pretty in tink's DD wants to do it again, or she wouldn't have asked me if there was one for kids.

Do the kids fill out the same swap questionairre?

As far as envelopes and postage, I guess what I was trying to say was that all the envelopes should be about the same size, and then the postage shouldn't matter. Whatever fits in an envelope, fits in it, and that's fair. After all, even if you used a regular legal envelope, if you filled it with fibers, you would end up having to pay extra postage. And brads just don't ship too well in a plain legal envelope. If someone had little stuff to fill the envelope, they could just add some ribbon or fiber to fluff it up some.

My boys are in.
My eldest could probably make something on his own with some help. My youngest, well, I guess his SS would get something created by me with some help from him.
I'm probably to going to buy one of those shaped cardboard/chipboard books. As that will withstand my children's handling better than a paperbag album or trying to let them do an exploding box.
Or maybe I'll let them make a few page kits. With me doing the cutting for the right sizes, helping them assemble and then let them have at it with the Jolees/eyelets/brads/fiber/Cricut cutouts. As long I as I keep on reminding my youngest that this is not a battle he is recreating where everything goes up in red glitter stickles, it should be okay.
Need to go update their questions. :thumbsup2

PS-my youngest would give me the evil eye for days if he thought someone was sending me a baby sister. :rotfl2:

DS(8) actually wouldn't mind a baby (he'd prefer a boy). He says it could share his bed and he'd look after it in the night. I poitned out that meant nappies, and that babies get bigger (his room's about 6'x9' ) and he decided he'd raather have a kitten. Nope, not getting that either:rolleyes1

So if he's in, I just adapt the questions or is there a second set?

Last time we did the same questions for kids and adult, but I did seprate groups for them. I will do that again.
I'm going to update the first post with the names of everyone I have recieved PM's from.

BTW, the only reason I get to play today is because Old Man Winter gave us sn** last night! A whole inch and we have a snow day. Lucky me!

Ok, so I did say it. DH would agree that I should go to the naughty mat... Last night we went out to play while the flakes where falling and I made a big ball.... and hit him in the backside. I fell over with laughter- he went inside and would not come out to play again. So, off to the naughty mat I go. Is it still one minute for every birthday you have celebrated?

LOL! Yep, one minute for each birthday!!! Wow! I'd wait for DH to come home tonight and hit him again! JK!

I only get mad when the kids hit me in the face other than that.. if there is sn** on the ground and they can form a sn**ball then attack is fair game.. why do you think I go out and "warm" the van early.. I pre-ball them and have them strategically placed to fire upon their departure from the house!

Great plan of attack! I would wait and do it again tonight, but the fluffy stuff is gone. It truly was pay back but the original hit came two years ago when we where in Ohio... He forgot about pay backs!

I did spend my 30 something minutes on the naughty mat- now I have to fix dinner!

I am still relatively new to disboards, but I am not new to scrapbooking. I have been scrapbooking for more than 10 years. Can I participate in this or would it be preferred not to have a newbie to the scrapbooking form? Awwwwwww, I'm so sad that the 3rd box is keeping anyone from the fun!! I would be thrilled to get a little sompthin' sompthin' from my SS that is to the theme of one of my books (like beach/summer :rolleyes1 hint, hint)...or ANYTHING Disney related...or a recipe card...or a pack of HM thanks cards...or anything! No Stress (but I always stress...yeah, I admit it, I do...)

Also, mine might not be scrappy related anyway...depends on my mood at the time, I might be into something non-paper at that point, and my SS will get one of those :teeth: I really think it's just like any of the swaps, if you would like it, and use it, then it's wonderful, and your SS will love it too!

I cross-stitched an item for my SS in the last swap. That definitely counts as homemade.

Call me stupid but are we supposed to mail ON the 1st so everyone mails at once? Just a silly question I know.....I want to hit it just right myself.

First one is March 1st right?

Girldreamer02
01-25-2008, 01:21 PM
can we mail on or before march first?

BernardandMissBianca
01-25-2008, 01:38 PM
the mailing should be March, April, and May with a roughly Mother's Day reveal. And yes you can mail on or before the 1st of each month.
the reason we had originally picked March 1 as the first mail date is because we usually do boxes. And it takes tim to fill them up.

So those of you itching to mail in Feb, why not make a Valentine's Day card with a little goodie in it.

This is my first SS swap.... any chance people want to play get to know your secret sister better games.... just in case you've got questions above and beyond the questionaire you could ask them here and have the ladies answer hoping your SS answers too. I'll start....

Who is your favorite disney character? Group of characters? Why?

Well gee Piglet..... mylittlepiglet is getting bigger and bigger though and now I have two but...... I can relate to Piglet feeling small and all..... I try to let others have the spolight and me be in supporting roles.

I'd have to say the LIttle Einsteins right now just cause I watch them so much at home, followed by the fab five plus daisy cause Mickey Mouse Clubhouse..... I do also have to say for those of you who have not seen Enchanted it is FABULOUS. Even Dsd12 trying to be cooled rushed back to the car after seeing it to put on the soundtrack we had already bought. LOL

My favorite is cinderella. I've loved her since I was five and last yr I got engaged at CRT, which was a total shock and surprise. I love her b/c she is such a king hearted person (yes I know she is a cartoon but i love the image her character portrays.) And she ends up with her prince charming...proof that karma can work in good ways. :goodvibes

My fave group of characters is Winnie the pooh and company. I don't know what it is about these guys but they have always held a special place in my heart!!!

I don't really have a favorite group of characters so I really have nothing to answer about that.

I do classify my favorite characters by overall group. SO, here goes.

Stitch is my favorite animated character. He is so funny, goofy, and mischievous, yet sweet and loving. I find him to be so darling and I LOVE his little voice!

Mary Poppins has been my all-time favorite character since I was a little girl and saw the movie the first time. I adore Julie Andrews and she brought the magic of Mary Poppins alive for me. I still find the character to be just as magical today as she was the first time I saw her slide UP the bannister.

Ariel is my favorite princess. This was the first new Disney movie to come out in the theatre when I was a child. I was 12 and I LOVED it. I saw it three times in the theatre and then wore out my VHS tape of it. When I was 14, I was a youth player at our local city theatre and Jodi Benson (the voice of Ariel) came through on a touring version of "Chess". I had the opportunity to meet her, talk with her about the movie and act with her in the play. It was incredible.

Great idea, MLP!

When we go to WDW we go in 2 different styles - when we go with my parents, we camp. On those trips we eat at Trails End (at Fort Wilderness) and roast s'mores at the campfire. Must do's if you ask me. But if we go with my inlaws, we stay in a deluxe hotel. On those trips, we eat at the Sci Fi, the Brown Derby, the Crystal Palace or the Garden Grill. Also must do's if you ask me.

2 totally different answers for the same people. Weird... :)

As far as restaurants, well, we love eating at WDW! I have been sitting here pondering which to choose and I just can't narrow it down. I think I prefer the classic characters, especially Mickey and Tink.

Polling the family, we couldn't think of any particular favorite sit down restaurant. We like several. It depends on where we are and what we want to eat at the time. We have had numerous good meals at The Brown Derby though. We just really hate the wait time there.

I think we like all the character meals too.

pretty in tink likes all of the Disney characters, but leans towards the classic ones, she also likes princesses and winnie the pooh, it depends on her mood

her favorite sit downs are character meals

pretty in tink's DD: likes all of the Disney characters and her favorite restaurant is Tony's-she said she had mickey ice cream with oreo ears, it was just me and her, and that is what I think she's talking about, but I might be wrong, maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong; she also likes character meals

It doesn't appear that my SS has answered all of the questions yet. :( I'm sure it would be helpful to everyone if their SS could answer the questions when they have a moment as it will help all of us.

To reiterate previous questions:

1) Who is your favorite character and/or group of characters?

2) What is your favorite Disney restaurant?

And I have a new question for everyone:

3) What type of handmade gifts are you hoping to get from your SS in your third package?

Gee, I don't know! Truly, I'll be happy with anything but I know that I'm feeling kind of stumped about what to make my SS so I was hoping this question could help all of us.

Although, since I am asking everyone else, I guess it's only fair that I have to answer. Maybe a cute kitty or Disney paper bag album? I don't have one and mine are so plain. Or maybe an altered lunch pail to keep my cards in since I keep saying I should organize them by category instead of misplacing them. Really, anything is fine. I mainly just asked because I need help with an idea for my SS. Sneaky, aren't I? ;)

Good idea - I need ideas too;) For me, keeping in mind the distance and post costs, i'm happy with some page completion kits (blank topper, photo mats, tags etc.) which I can use on my pages as I need them. I LOVE those things, and I'd never bother to make them just for me as I need them so i rely on swpas:rotfl: But if my SS wants to make something more complicated that's fine too - I bet there's stuff out theree I have no idea that exists so i can't ask for it:lmao:

Me and my boys would be very happy with the color or Disney themed page kits. I wouldn't mind some handsewn towels, but I don't think the boys would be thrilled. Altered chipboard albums (tag/lift-a-flap/word/shaped) would be better than towels for them. I'd like that too if my SS doesn't sew. ;) Those acrylic albums look pretty cool too.

my ds and i would be happy with anything that someone made for us. i just hope we can make something that someone would love. i have been so thinking about this one.
just so i'm clear, we mail anything that will fit in an envelope and its .41 cents to mail it?

Mine will be a tad bit more for at least one envelope. But I think the other two are lightweight enough to not need too much more that $0.41.

Answer to the made item... I'll love anything that someone on this board comes up with. I have been TOTALLY blown away by the creativity of the people here! So, anything my SS wants to share with me (along with directions if it's something I might want to reproduce) will be great! I love altered things, love handmade cards, love jewelry (:rotfl: Ok, I mean HM jewelry....)

So, SS...surprise me, I'll love it!!

I know that dosen't help my secret sister out much so here are a few little hints about me. For DD, she would love kits -- Disney or otherwise. She's so jealous of all my swap stuff and how easy it will make doing pages. She's still learning some stuff and we don't have a Cricut or anything so another option would be like Disney titles or titles for her other activities and/or paper piecings.

We collect autographs when we go but don't go that often, and the boys like to choose a book or add to one they have. So no to autograph books. (but Ill bet they're awesome!).
But as I said before, love page kits and paper piecings - like for summer holidays, BBQs, Christmas etc - especially characters in costume! (Like a Christmas Mickey would be amazing!).
And altered/handmade stuff if it has a use, IYSWIM ;) Like if I can use it to organise scrap stuff or something, but not if I'm going to wonder where to put it and what to do with it (because DH will just keep going "are you ever ging to use that thing and what is it anyway?" :lmao: )

He is a black (although it looked a bit like a really dark chocolate brown) with tan paws and a few tan spots. We haven't named him yet as I only saw him for a few minutes yesterday and i was dealing with my students at the same time- they brought him in for me to see just before the end of the school day. DH hasn't met him yet and then we will think about names.

We do collect autographs and character photos at our house. With 2 girls who are 8 & 5 - there's no getting around it. Although my 5 year old is the biggest fan of meeting the characters. I'm hoping on our upcoming trip in May she meets them.

okay sorry back to Shauna's question about what homemade item. I am cool with anything. One of my DH co-workers and I just randomly keep sending each other stuff back and forth... some is asked for cause we know the person has the "equipment" others just because.

Something I have never used is shaker boxes or slide mounts. I just love diecuts so just a bunch of random stuff would be cool too. I am afraid if my SS made something too cool like tag book or something I'd be too scard to use it LOL it that's what you were thinking etc please make it just teasing about how some people don't use swap items cause they are too good LOL hehehe

non scappy but used for scrapbooking........a collection of title suggestions, or a quote book, a favoriate desgners sketches copied into a book or something (not sure this item is coming across to well) ohhhh patterns for paper piecing okay these are weird but SS if you get my vibe go for it LOL:wizard:

As for character signatures. We don't collect those anymore. An autograph book is still a good idea, though, since we have a couple of the WDW autograph books and it would be cool to put the signatures with a picture of the character. I've meant to do that and just haven't gotten to it yet!

I am going to experiment in a scrapbook I'm making for my fmil with some ribbon and a few different types of embellishments so wish me luck:thumbsup2 P.S. anyone that shops at jo ann fabrics...or if there is one near you they usually have two little free standing turn type things in their scrapbook section that have a bunch of different little dollar things that have turned out to work really well in some of my pages. just an fyi if anyone has one near them to check it out:goodvibes :thumbsup2

They are different springy colors with white polka dots on them. I got up to the register and I was having second thoughts talking to my sister saying what are we going to use to stick these on? Glue? The lady in front of my piped up and said to use the sticky dots. So we get out of line and go look for them. I got them! They are called zots clear adhesive dots and its the ultra strength. Let me tell you...they work wonderfully!!! Although the zots are a little big to stick to the back of my ribbon, but they didn't have smaller sizes at my hobby lobby. So I decided to cut them in half in order to put them on the ribbon. I couldn't be happier with my experiment with ribbon and buttons today! Hopefully my secret sister is reading this. ;) So I hope this helps you out too. :) I also wish I could thank that lady at hobby lobby she was a life saver!

Ok, March is moving along and the next shipment is this box....so what kinds of things go in the box? This is my first SS so I want to make sure I'm doing what is expected.

Thanks for input!

At least $20 worth of stuff (can be a mix of scrap stuff and not) but some of it should be for scrapping. Use your partner's survey to help figure out what you should send. You can include homemade and storebought goodies in this package but you will have to do homemmade for the next package. I have gotten some filled with wrapped package and some in gift bags and some just in the box so the manner of deliver doesn't matter- it is the thought that goes into choosing things your SS will enjoy.
