Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Hi friends! I feel like the only one left "home" holding down the fort. Hope you don't mind that I started this week's thread. I am getting lonely.:guilty:

:cheer2: GO WISH TEAM MICKEY AND GOOFY FRIENDS TODAY!:cheer2:

Give us a report when you can! :cool1: I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's weekend!

Mornin' Tinks-you are not alone "at home." ONLY 52 weeks until the 2009 WDW marathon and I've got [insert Ricky Ricardo voice] "a lot of trainin' to do."

WISHing that all of today's WISH team mates participating in events had luck, fun and personal success.

Also, CONGRATULATIONS to all who started and participated in the half marathon yesterday, the 5K Friday and Family Fun races this weekend.

Congrats to all of you who ran yesterday! YOU DID IT! And big WOO HOOs to those running today.

I have a year. A year to get ready to run my first ever half marathon. A year to get ready to run my first anything. Gulp. Exercise has never been something I have enjoyed. However I am determined to do this. I don't want to let the friends we are doing this with down. I don't want to let myself down. And most of all I want to be able to say to my DH "I DID IT" because you know what? He really doesn't think I can.

I've never had a struggle with weight so I think that is one reason why I never spent a lot of time even thinking about exercise. I just felt like I didn't need to. Now I am pushing 40 fast and I do want to start a healthier lifestyle and accomplish this.

I am off to go Gazelle a couple of miles.....

Allyson :)

Hi!

Today was supposed to be my first workout day as I prepare for the half-marathon/minnie marathon the first weekend in May. Last week, I bought shoes from a specialty running store (even though I am hoping to be a long walker), and my new coolmax clothing is here. I got suited up and went to the gym where my parents had bought me a month's membership. Contrary to what they were told, that first month goes to a lengthy contract, which I can avoid for the low cost of several hundred dollars. The contract costs were close to $500--a lot more than I intended.

The gym is 20 minutes from my home, so I'm not sure I would go all that often. The only gym here in town made me feel uncomfortable when I joined last year (and I only went two or three times). It's a meat market for teens--eww. Not my scene.

Our house isn't big enough for a treadmill--not even a folding one. I'm out of ideas and I need to start moving to keep up with my training program. My doctor advised against outdoor workouts because of my asthma.

Any ideas on how to deal with working out in a teen pickup joint? :sad2:

Thanks. I'm looking forward to meeting my goals--the stories I've read here are so inspiring!

I finished the Half with a PR on no training:confused3 . Opps can barely walk today though.

First of all, thanks Tinks for including me in the list. You are very observant, since I've only posted here once so far! You could also include my husband Tom, who will also be running. He doesn't Dis, but he is part of the team!

Second of all, congratulations to everyone who just ran this weekend. You are so inspiring to me!

Allyson, you sound just like me! I've always hated exercise, and taken my body for granted, but now that I am on the far side of 40 I think it is time for me to really start taking care of myself. I think a half marathon at my favorite place just might do the trick!

I did the Couch to 5K plan on and off last year, and even though I was not consistent it did make a huge difference for me. And I actually discovered that I can enjoy running (that was big!). Now the first thing I am taking on is being consistent - I plan to run 3 times a weeks for a month, and then up it to 4. I have a 10K I am aiming for at the end of April.

My biggest challenge right now is going to be the weather. I have been very lucky for the past week, but things are about to get cold here, and I really hate the cold! There is a nice gym about 5 minutes from my house that I will join if it looks like the weather is getting in my way.

I did a good 25 minute run this afternoon, and really enjoyed it! My next run day is Tuesday.

I look forward to being part of the team!

Congrats to all our finishers today!:dance3: Hope you're enjoying the post-race days to come! I'm so envious! Can't wait until your all home safe so we can hear all the reports!

Thanks Tinks for starting the thread this week!

Allyson - Was your gazelle mention from the lions-and-gazelles thing? Like I said before, that's one of my favorite sayings!

ms.mightyduck - Sorry that the local gym is more a social club than a place to train. I'm in NJ (southern) too but I've been running outside.

Hi to everyone else and...

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WISHERS WHO ARE NOW DONE!!!!

I ran with DH yesterday and managed to go 2.25 miles, which is further than I've ran so far, and I did it in better time than anything so far as well. DH, OTOH, has been running and cycling for a while now, and while I was gasping for breath he actually YAWNED! :rotfl: I was sooooo annoyed, lol!

Also, I had my first WDW-half-marathon dream last night, although it was more of a nightmare. In the dream, I was asleep and woke up to discover that while I knew I'd started the race, I had no recollection of whether I'd finished or not. Then I had to go to the awards ceremony to find out whether I'd finished and, if so, get my medal (of course, that's not where you actually get your medal, but hey, nothing else made sense either!), but I forgot my bib. As it turned out, I finished, but with no bib it was no medal for me. :sad1: I woke up in a panic, lol!

Oh well. I guess the insanity has begun for me!

I'm here at the shore, south enough to have a 609 number.... I know the weather is going to be terrible this week. The satellite picture is going all pixel-y from the storm that is already starting, I guess. If we have more days like last week, it's not a problem, but I suspect it's not going to stay 60 degrees!

Social club would be okay if it weren't a social club for high schoolers! My mom is trying to sell me on her club that I went to today because they will be getting a pool. I don't see me using it.... :confused3 But I guess I need to make a decision so I can get started. Right now I'm dreaming of a snow day for tomorrow. Way too early for one, but I could use it.

I'm looking forward to having people here to hold me accountable (and maybe encourage me for the days I can't get off the sofa!).

Another half finisher home! I DID IT!! Thanks to all the WISHers who got me to this point, especially those along the course who cheered us through, and to Tina who ran with me for most of the way and gave me valuable companionship.

For those of you just starting out, it's an incredible journey. And it's worth every moment. Being in the Orlando airport tonight and seeing all the medals and marathon shirts was the most amazing feeling. And our flight attendant actually offered congratulations to all the half and marathon finishers!

Erin, I'm with you - walking is not one of my favorite activities today, although DH and I did manage 2 miles around POR/POFQ this morning before we left!

More tomorrow when I can actually think straight...

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Wow, I almost missed the thread. Congratulations to everyone on the races this weekend, and welcome home to those who are home.

Does anyone have a picture of the medal? I want to see the special 15th anniversary medal.

Erin- Welcome home and congratulations on your PR with soooo little training.

Jackie- Congratulations to you too!

Beckie- Wow, you finished all 3 events? Congratulations. Any medal pics?

ms.mightyduck, MomofCKJ, and Kira G.- Welcome to the team. We're here for you.

fan_of_small_world- Good for you for training outside in NJ.

To all those who walked & ran, huffed & puffed, cruised and never snoozed (I had to think of something to rhyme there!)--Congratulations! I'm a new poster, who has set her mind to start the madness by running the Minnie 15k in May.

MomofCKJ-I know how you feel. I'm pushing 40 (+10) this year, and my fitness routine is rutted and boring--but I'm not a runner and will have to work to get the hang of it. Sounds like there will be many of us --some comfort, anyway!

Well, week 2 of the training begins and I did manage to run outdoors this past weekend and stick to my training plan, so here's hoping this keeps up!

First of all, congratulations to all who did the 5K, half, full and the Goofy people. We all did an awesome job (note the pat on the back there).

Second, welcome to anyone new, I am a little lost in the thread right now.

Now for the not so long race report. I am happy to tell everyone that I ran the entire 13.1 miles. I am VERY proud of that. I did not plan on it but I just kept telling myself to keep going. About mile 10, I found the BMZ...and the uphills which they were so kind to save for then end of the race. Entering EPCOT for the final mile, my Garmin was at 2:27 and I REALLY wanted to finish before 2:30 so I pushed, got bottlenecked, and ended up at 2:30:08 according to my Garmin. My chip time was 2:31:44. After my forced taper, and not having properly trained, I have absolutely no complaints and I have to say anyone considering this race for next year....DO IT!!! It was an awesome experience.

Meeting the WISHers was also an awesome experience. Dave and Erica, Robert and Linda, Kim and Mike, Colleen, Mike and Kathy, SilverSteve, Krista and Steve, Jodi, Renee, Lily, Judy, Angie, and the other names are lost now, but faces not forgotten...you are all wonderful people. The WISH group was so supportive through the whole experience including out on the course, I cannot express how thankful I am for finding this group. WISH ROCKS!!!!!

**SWDave** -Good to see you back with a start the morning post.

**Lisa**- Great job.

Also congratulations to all WISHers who participated in the WDW 5K, half, marathon and Goofy. You are all an inspiration.

Only 362 days until the 2009 WDW half. Heading out now to do some snow shoveling XT and plan to get in 30 min. on TM or some other exercise tonight.

All I can say is you're gonna really regret not running Disney this year. Those months when I was wavering between running the half and switching to the full... I'm regretting not switching! Can't wait till someone posts the pic.

And yes, a BIG congratulations to those of you who finished all 3 events. I woke up Sunday morning and just laughed at the thought of running another step!

Jackie: I made it to watch the start of the full at EPCOT and had to get back for ME pickup but, I too was wondering how anyone was moving on Sunday. Obviously, I am not as well trained as they are. Today, I am wearing the shirt I got at the EXPO that says "this sounded like a good idea 3 months ago" and am doing light yoga to try and make my calves move again!!!!!

Now to get a little rest, so I can start training again!

Hey everyone we made it back to Canada and snow!!!!!!!

Mike and I finished, not too happy with our times, but for those that heard about my massive blister I got Thursday night,(Thank you Robert for the mending kit) I am surprised I even started. We finished with a chip time of 3:08:37 but my blister really acted up about mile 7 and hurt like heck until about mile 11....have I mentioned I hate miles:lmao: once it burst it felt so much better. Thank you so much to the scream team, you have no idea how much your cheering helps!!!!!:grouphug:

Mike and I then volunteered at water stop #22 and did our best to cheer my fellow Canadians and WISHers on it was so much fun. I have a new found appreciation and respect for those of you who do marathons being close to the end of the race we saw alot of people with injuries plugging through. One thing that did break my heart was apparently mile #22 is a place where the sweeper bus will pick you up and we did see a few get picked up, I felt horrible for them making it all the way to mile #22 but kudos to them all for making it that far, that in itself is amazing and they should all be very proud of what they did accomplish.

It was great meeting new WISHers, Lisa, Maria, Scott, Lynn and of course my DH's new drinking buddies Dave, Erica, Robert and Linda, Thursday night was alot of fun!!!!!! I didn't think I could stay up for 22 hours straight at my age anymore:thumbsup2

Also Karen and John thank you for the back packs they are great!!!!!

Also, when we left the medical station alot of people where complainning that they ran out of medals for the 1/2 one guy on our bus confirmed that they ran out and would mail the medals. I think I would be devistated if I didn't get a medal at the end. Apparently this is the 2nd year this has happened.

Hope you all had a great time and are making it home safe and sound. Already looking forward to next year!!!!

We're back, but I'll save the marathon report for later when I'm not so brain dead. The weather was tough again this year, not so hot but lots more humidity. We had an excellent group with lots of new WISHers to meet! It was great fun!

Vicki...thanks for kicking off the thread this week! I didn't even take the laptop with me

Kelley...I think that was Susie and Karen (kareneast) you were talking to.

Lisa...it was great meeting you!

Welcome to the new folks! We'll be looking forward to getting to know you better throughout the year! I'll get you added to the list this weekend. Speaking of, this time of year I do a little housekeeping and cull names from the list that we haven't heard from in awhile. If you're an infrequent poster, please holler out and let us know you're still with us. If I take you out by mistake, please let me know!

Good training and recovery week everyone!

I missed out on getting a White Donald run, walk, waddle, etc shirt in size small (missed them at the expo, only had XL after race). Any ideas on where to get one.

Also, I was disappointed that the pin I ordered was a Marathon pin instead of a half pin. I guess I didn't read it closely enough when I ordered. I may Ebay it, since I only did the half.

For everybody that scream teamed for the half, thank you so much! It really made me grin to see you all cheering! Thanks again! WISH is the best!

OK, I'm back.... and I'm GOOFY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :goofy:

I will do a nice long, full report when I manage to catch up on sleep, but the short version...

Had a nice half... finished in 2:09:40. Had a tough time between the humidity and general exhaustion during the full... finished in 5:11:12. Not real pleased with the time, but considering I had done basically no solid running since September, I'll take it. The new goofy medal is SO COOL too.

My body doesn't feel that bad today, which is a small miracle, since I had to drive back to Fort Lauderdale at 6am to get to work.

One big thing I will mention is how WONDERFUL all the people I met this weekend are and how much more special you all made this weekend for me. Between the Pop meet and the cheer groups and meeting folks out on the course and the corrals, I was overwhelmed by the kindness, spirit and generosity of the members of this group... and I am certain proud to be one. I can't wait to do it again next year!!!

Well, I'm off to unpack...

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the marathon this past weekend! You all were my inspiration for deciding to start training to participate in the 1/2 marathon next year. I'm signing myself up next week :thumbsup2

And thank you angietuck2 for suggesting that I come check the weekly thread :goodvibes

Congrats to all the 5k, 1/2, full and Goofy participants and scream team members. I am so proud to be part of a group that is so caring for the rest of team.

Welcome to all the new members - this is a great place to be. Everyone is so supportive that it helps motivate you when those runs get REALLY boring!!

I went and did it and I signed up for the 2009 full - no backing out now!!! I am hoping the Minnie 15k will get me prepared for those last 9 miles (right?) For now I am enjoying my free time and only running 2 miles here and there. I know soon enough I will be a slave to training.

Hopefully everyone had a wonderful trip or those that are still there have a safe trip home!!!

Wow, what a great weekend. I'm back and still walking. Oh yea, I managed to finish my first full in 4:58:07.

Congrats to everyone for finishing what you started. I know it wasn't easy for everyone, me included, but we made it.

I couldn't have done it without the WISH Scream Team. It was so uplifting seeing you guys around the course. It was especially great seeing you guys late in the race. THANKS!

I'll post a report soon.

Thanks,

Hi, I'm new too.

I have to say to all of you who participated in the 2008 WDW events--You are awesome and inspiring.

My grand plan is to run the 2010 marathon, so I will be starting to run when we return from our upcoming WDW vacation. I think I will be signing up to run a 10K this summer (but I want to get a few weeks of training under my belt first). Next summer I will run a half-marathon, and then 2010--the full marathon.

Why 2010? Well, I'll be 40 years old, and it's the start of a new decade. Besides, I'll have enough DVC points by then to enjoy a long stay. (we borrowed a bunch for this upcoming vacation)

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to participating on this board and letting you all know how the training is going. I'm really psyched to join the WISH Running Team!:woohoo: :woohoo:

Just got back tonight...and all I have to say is WOW! What an amazing experience! I will post a longer race report later, but I wanted to say that this weekend was awesome. I finished my first full in 5:28:35. I am a bit sore today, but I am already thinking about next year and doing the Goofy!!!

I have to say that all the WISH team support on the course was amazing! Without all of you out there, I am not sure I would have made it! You guys rock!!!!!

Hey guys! Good to see the thread's still going strong with so many WISHers still traveling. Krista and I are still here at WDW through the rest of this week (nothing like blowing a whole week of vacation in January, right? :thumbsup2 ). I'll be sure to post a real race report once I get home, but just wanted to let you know we survived the weekend. I had a chip time of 4:27:08 for the full, which is a PR by about 17 minutes for me, so I'm pretty happy with that.

It was great to spend time with a lot of old friends at the WISH meets all weekend. Krista and I said this was by far our favorite marathon weekend, and it was completely because of all of you guys. You are all very dear friends to us and I'm privileged to be a part of the team. It was awesome to meet a lot of new faces, too: Kevin, Lisa, Jodi, SilverSteve, Chester, Sara's DH Mike, Eva, Angie, and I'm sure a lot that I'm forgetting at the moment--it was great to meet all of you!

Hope everyone has safe trips home. WELCOME to all the new people! I have seen a lot of new screen names already this week, and can't wait to get to know all of you.

Talk to you guys later!

Good morning!:surfweb:

Thanks to all the WISHers who came out to scream this weekend. It was great seeing you there. You gave me encouragement when I was slumping.

I posted my race reports on the Jan 12 and Jan 13 kudos threads. In a nutshell: the half was a pleasure, the full was NOT. But, I finished.

Mel, you're right. It was kareneast I met with Susie (escape). It was a nice to see them both. Karen, sorry I couldn't think of your name.

I really wish I was going back for 2009. Alas, it's just not gonna happen. We'll be there for a big family reunion at Thanksgiving and I just can't justify another trip 6 weeks later. :sad1: But, for 2010, all four of us are planning to do the half. Yup, me, DH, DS, and DD.

The weekend's biggest bummer: I lost my Garmin. :sad1: I know I packed it up with the charger in its little ziploc, but it didn't make it home. I've called the BWV, emailed AirTran, and now I have to try to contact Hertz. I'm heartbroken. I want the weekend's data more than I want the device.

Have a great week, everyone. I'm back at work now and really need to concentrate.

Darn Kelley you still can't find your Garmin? I am still hoping it turns up for you. What a bummer about the data. Keeping my fingers crossed that it turns up.

I got up early this morning (it was chilly - yeah!!!) and managed 2 miles on the TM. My calves are still crapping within the first mile.

So glad to see so many new people and so many race reports - its just the motivation I need to stick with this (especially since now I am signed up for the 2009 full and the 15k Minnie) YEAH!!!!

Kelley: So sorry about the Garmin. I thought I lost mine before the race and remembered that I packed it inside my sneaks. I hope you are able to locate yours.

WISH scream teamers: Thank you again for being there for all us runners/walkers this weekend. What you did was very special and helped so many of us through the BMZ!!!

I am back to reality here in the great white north. We got nearly a foot of snow yesterday. On the up side, I did not have to work yesterday so I got to spend the day with my kids as there was no school. I was thinking of Steve (SilverE) flying in yesterday, or not, but was hoping that he could make it. Hoping everyone who traveled yesterday had great trips and that all of you flying or driving this week make it home safe and sound.

I am still sore in my right calf at the Achilles insertion point but nothing that I cannot ignore. I am heading to the gym this afternoon for some light elliptical and weights. Looking forward to running again though not right off quick!!! :rolleyes1

Just a quick fly by from Erica and I to send our love and congradulations to all. Our soreness and poor Erica's chaffing are healing up nicely and we are still keeping on the go.

I will start working on the team miles game when I get back this weekend. We all need all the motivation we can get.

Oh, I hope Erica is not in too bad a shape. No fun for a birthday girl!!!

It was great meeting both Erica and you, silly Panda. Your support has helped me out greatly. I tried to find you after the half but was not able to. I hung around with Lily et al for awhile after I finished but did not see you, Robert, Linda, Kim, Mike, etcetera. I started cramping up and finally decided it was time to head back to the hotel. I went to dinner with Colleen, Mike and Kathy, SilverSteve, Steve and Krista, Jodi (I think I am forgetting some people, sorry!!) and we had a great meal. I did watch the full start but did not see any of you there either. Had to catch the bus back to the hotel to pick up ME but not before seeing that the full finisher was done in the same amount of time it took me to do the half!!! YIKES!!!

I hope you all had a great weekend and are enjoying your time left in WDW. Safe travels home and, again, thank you so much for everything!!!

I have to tell you that this weekend was the most fun I have ever ever had in my whole life! I am still bouncing off the walls with excitement!

Ran the half faster than I intended & finished in 2:13:13. Ran the full with my team for the first 17 miles, then I took off and finshed the race on my own. This left me free to chat with some of my DIS friends along the way. I ended up finishing in 5:28:18. I actually had some guy tell me to "just stop dancing" when we were running in Epcot at mile 25.

I was actually dancing on chairs at our TNT Victory party sunday night!

The only bummer was that the cantina in Mexico refused to serve me a margarita until I finshed the race. Evidently they have some rule about serving alcohol to runners.

I will post a longer report on the report thread, but I have to say THANK YOU to my WISH friends first.

Thank you WISH Team! You were great!

I don't remember who gave out the hugs & oranges at mile 20, but you have no idea how much I needed both of those! :lovestruc Thank you.

And Thank you to Howard and Lynne and Kevin and Steve for keeping me "somewhat" calm before the start of the half. It was fun running the first 100 yards with you!

Ok, just a few thoughts, etc. before I go do some more unpacking....

Who the heck do we start a letter writing campaign to about this running out of / misplacing medals thing? Last year it was unacceptable. Again this year?

To the WISHers scream teaming along the way on the Half - you meant more to me than you will ever know. I was having the hardest time. My training was really lacking and it showed. Thank God Chad stayed with me, or I may have quit (probably not, but that thought kept entering my mind.). During mile 2, I was so upset with myself that I started to cry, then started hyperventilating. Not good. I got calmed down and ripped off my pace band for a 3 hour half. Since I wans't going to be able to keep that pace, I told Chad we should just have fun. We stopped for alot of character pictures. Anne's oranges just before entering Epcot were the darn best things we ever tasted!

John & Karen rock! Those backpacks are the best. THANK YOU!!!

I am sad I still somehow missed meeting people at the various meets!
How does this happen?

I also think I had more fun at the water stop and cheering for the Full. That was a total blast and I have quite a few pictures of our WISHers coming through at Animal Kingdom. I will get those up soon.

Lesson learned - I cannot half-@$$ my way through a half marathon since I know I have done this distance before. Yes, I got my Donald medal. But I will not be getting a cetificate. It was a very hard lesson for me.:sad2: And I will not allow myself to spend such enormous amounts of money to travel to a race when I am not prepared.

John and Karen: I forgot to thank you in the previous post for the backpack. It is awesome and so are you both. It was great meeting and talking with you. I knew I was forgetting things, but not something so important!!!

Kristi: I saw you after the half and wish I had known how upset you were. Try and focus on the positive things like, heck, you finished right. You had fun. This whole experience is not only about goals and PRs it is about personal experience and growth. I wanted to finish faster than I did but I was able to run the whole way which I did not think I could do. Try and keep the good things at the front and put the other things on the "to do better" list for next time!! And remember first and foremost, you did finish!!!!! And here is the  you could have used after the race that I feel bad I did not give you, sweat and all!!!

Well, the WISH team has created two new monsters! My mom and her friend, Betsy, watched the full from the YC/BC. Betsy was wearing my WISH hat and my mom a WISH bracelet. My mom called to tell me that the entire drive back (four hours), they talked about doing the half next year! They're already planning their WISH wardrobes...:rolleyes1

They want me to get them my MfM book and training plans, and my mom I think wants a Garmin or a Nike+. It's hard to tell since she was talking about "that thing that tells you how far you've gone." They are cracking me up!

Kelley - Yea for Mousekeeping! I'm so glad they found your Garmin!

Lisa - Based on your post earlier on this thread (page 3 maybe) about Marathoning for Mortals, I went out and bought not only that but also Running for Mortals, since I'm completely starting from scratch as a runner. I skimmed them and they look great, so thank you for the advice!

Kristi - I'm registered for my first WDW half and I'm already having nightmares (literally - I posted about it on the first page of this thread) about not getting a medal at the finish. (I realized later that I'd read Sandy's account about not getting her medal at the finish, and I guess it was on my mind while I slept!) So I'll join your letter-writing campaign - just let me know the address!

CONGRATULATIONS again to all the runners/walkers as they return home, and to the scream teamers as well for helping so many people through the races!

Hello, and welcome home everyone back from WDW! You're who I want to be next year!

I just finished my run for the day. I am aiming to do a 25-30 minute run/walk 3 times a week for four weeks, and then I'll look at adding a day and adding elements. Right now aiming for consistency, and doing pretty well.

I am incredibly lucky in where I live - a 1 1/2 block walk from my house in northwest Philadelphia is an entrance into the Wissahickon trails, and when you're on them you feel like you're miles from the city. I can live in the city and run in the woods! And today was absolutely beautiful! Snow flurries are falling, and the forest looked amazing. I would have missed the whole thing if I hadn't started this training process.

The first 15 minutes went great (I am running 5, walking 1 for now). Then I had to cross back over a creek. Until about 4 years ago there was a beautiful bridge over the creek along this trail, but it was washed away in a torrential summer flood (and the city is not promising to EVER rebuild it:confused: ). Usually there are some nice stepping stones over the creek, but they must have gotten rearranged in the weekend rain. I tried a different set of rocks, and then WHOOPS - first one foot and then the other up to my shins in water!! :scared1: Yuck!

Luckily I was almost done, so after my feet warmed up a bit I did my last 5 minutes of running and then walked home to peel off my wet things. Pretty funny! My next run will be on the roads, and then I'll bring my kids down to the creek over the weekend to fix up the stepping stones.

Overall, however, I am just grateful to have the motivation to get out there on a day like today and get to enjoy the beauty of the woods. Thanks everyone for inspiring me to take this on!

It was just awesome to be scream teaming this year!! chimera/Mel taught me a lot last year while screaming for the full..and I learned even more this year!! I am so proud of each and every member that participated in any way shape or form. And for those of you at home who "stood by the stuff," cheering, keeping the threads going THANK YOU!!! ::yes::

I have a couple of stories...

We had breakfast at Boma's on Friday, after the 5K. As we were leaving, a man came up and started talking to me about WISH. By then, I had taken my WISH race shirt off and put the 5K shirt on to go into Boma's, so I had to ask him how he knew I was a WISHer. His answer?....Your SOCKS!!!!!! Yea, Dave!!!! :yay: He went on to tell me that he is a lurker, and really enjoys reading our posts and learning from them. But he noticed my socks!!!!

So many people stopped to tell me (a screamer only, mind you!!) how much they liked our shirts, or to ask "What did WISH stand for?" which then led into describing this zany group.., or how impressed they were with our presence...

During the full, TXBelle/Heather and I were screaming at mile 20 when a man who was also screaming came up to tell us that he is a lurker on the Dis, and has been for quite a while. He couldn't get over how this group had started out so small on the boards and had grown so much!! He said he was seeing WISH shirts everywhere!! :woohoo:

One last one...driving home on Monday, we stopped at a McD's outside of Tallahassee. There was a woman, Barbara, wearing a marathon shirt. So, I told her congratulations and headed out the door. She yells, "Were you there?" to which I replied, "Yes, I was with the group that had the safety yellow/green WISH shirts." Her face lit up, and she wanted to know what WISH stood for, that she had seen them all over the course, and they were so friendly and good about yelling for everyone. I told her to "Come on over!" and how to get to us. GO WISH TEAM!!!!!:cheer2:

Back to ....:laundy:

Anne--I just wanted to let you know how much your support and scream teamin' along the course meant to me. I know it meant a lot to everyone. When I saw you and Heather near mile 21 at the out-n-back and you gave me the ice and the damp washcloth--it literally carried me for the next two miles. I've told Krista so many times over the last two days how much you helped me through the tough part of that course. You were great! Thank you so much for your dedication. Anne- I wondered who gave me the washcloth. Everything was a little fuzzy about then. :flower3:

Bree and I ran together for about the last 16 miles. When we weren't talking about how we were never, ever doing a full again ;), we were praising the washcloth. :woohoo: I made a point out of having mine around my neck in my finisher's photo- that's how attached I was to it. (But then I lost it somewhere on my way back to the hotel, which made me sad. Rest in peace, dear washcloth. Our time together was so short, but so special.)

Thank you!

Wow, there are so many threads about the races and the WISH meets and the Scream Teamers and I want to make sure the word gets out to everyone:

THANKS SO MUCH FOR BEING THERE!!!!

Whether you were a Scream Teamer who carried us exhausted runners and walkers through a long day, or a runner/walker who passed by and shouted encouragement to your fellow WISHers, or someone who brought swell gifts for the WISHers to the WISH meets, or just a brave soul who introduced themselves for the first time "in person" -- You all made my weekend so incredibly special. I got through my 3rd Goofy with your awesome support and I cannot begin to adequately express my gratitude. I am so indebted to you!

Thanks, team... BUT TXBelle/Heather and I handed out the washcloths, it was kareneast/Karen who brought them!!! She had them at the half and told me to take them for the full. Fortunately, I had brought a knife to cut the oranges, and we used it to cut the washcloths in half. We used the melted ice water to wet them (as well as some of Heather's drinking water!). Heather had brought Sports Beans that she also generously shared. We both felt so bad for the athletes that we gave up some of our WISH supplies..We MADE ourselves stop giving to others, though, because we knew our WISHers were coming. Heather was the spotter for WISH shirts, so if you didn't wear one, you would sneak up on us and we would scramble to get something to you! :rotfl: After the last WISHer passed we were completely out of everything!! I'm starting the list for next year!

Space Ranger/John, Karen's DH, had backpacks made up and gave them to the WISHers at Pop. Unbelieveably generous!! But that's the WISH team!! :grouphug:

Just popping in after getting in late last night & being behind the 8-ball at work. I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all the WISHers out there.

1) To those I met on the course....you helped me in more ways than I can count. I just wanted you to know even though I talked with you for just a few minutes, those were the times I looked forward to most on the course. (I hope I didn't seem too standoffish, I was just nervous.) You were my inspiration. I will join you next year, hopefully feeling less anxious & more social.

2) To those on the scream team...you motivated me (and everyone else, I'm sure) to keep going, and to do so with a smile on my face. You reminded me that it wasn't just about the medals for me--it was the experience!!!! I hope to join you next year at the race, supporting other runners/walkers.

3) To everyone here who regularly posts & provided me with advice & encouragement on the boards here--whether I was posting (infrequently) or as a lurker. I literally couldn't have done it without you. It's the WISHers out there who gave me the courage to start, who had me believe I could perservere even when my training (and life) got way off-track. It is you who taught me not only to "respect the distance" but that DLF > DNF > DNS!!

Collectively, you made my Goofy finish (my first 1/2 & my first marathon, too) possible.:worship: :worship: :worship: I hope to meet you all next year, when my trip will be more WISH focused and less in-law focused. :goodvibes

I am signing Chad up for the Goofy this week. IF I decide not to do the Half again, I will try to be there to Scream Team (and do the 5k instead). I will start a bin in the basement for old towels and washcloths! ;)

I LOVED doing the volunteer thing! I am doing that again next year if I do go - watch for a thread about that sometime in the summer. It was fun having 5 WISHers at the same water stop. And Kim & Mike at the other one. What an inspiration to be on the course watching practically everyone go by.

I also might have been a little bit too hard on myself for my Half. I thought I only had a sore throat all weekend. But it is now this full-blown "crud" that is going around. And combined with my asthma - not good! I am not making excuses in any way, shape or form. I just think that was a contributor to my downfall.

Lisa - I am sorry I wasn't so social after the Half. I was really mad at myself (and am still mad now). I wish we could have talked about more since we live relatively close. I do remember you saying to me that you were Princess Runner! I was just in a fog of kicking myself at that point. Oh, and being furious about the misplacing of medals yet again....

There's still so much to process from this weekend, I don't know where to start. I have a really long race report on the Jan 13th thread if anyone's interested.

I really have to thank all of you for getting me to this point. I never would've imagined completing a marathon but here I am. I think today's the first day I've realized what happened. I'm so shocked...I actually feel okay today. Only my quads are sore. My ankle straightened out much quicker than I ever imagined.

SOMEBODY STOP ME...I'M THINKING ABOUT REGISTERING FOR NEXT YEAR'S FULL :scared1:

Seriously though, I owe thanks to so many of you.

Jen...thanks for getting me through another race. I'm sorry that I wasn't more lively and chatty to help us through it. I feel a bit like an anchor dragging you down...you would've finished much sooner if I hadn't crashed around mile 13.

Vic...thanks for joining us during the full. It was great having someone else to 'lean' on to get to the finish.

Carrie, Steve, Krista, Cam, Howard, Heather, Lily, Craig, Christa, Helen, Bill, Lynnda, Rhonda, Lynne, Kathy, Erin, Colleen, Pat...it's been 3 years for most of us (4 for some of you). I can't believe how much the team has grown. Thanks to all of you for your support, advice and encouragement over these years. I wouldn't be here without you.

Anne...thanks for being our voice and our spirit. Your enthusiasm and energy keep us all going.

To the newer folks, this is an incredible place and I'm so glad that you're here. The team continues to grow and develop into this wonderful entity because of you.

I wish I could mention everyone individually, but please know that all of you mean a lot to me and look forward to getting to know everyone better through our WISH team years!

Anne/Heather - I was sooooooo grateful for the washcloth at the 20.5 spot. I was also glad that you were able to find the right spot.;) I have to admit that just before entering AK I was wondering if I was going to see you and Heather or whether you wound up at Sea World because of me. :lmao: We'll get some local oranges for next year if someone would be willing to hand them out. With two little ones it is still a little difficult running all over the complex.

Karen and John - Thank you so much for the backpacks. Billy loves his and is trying to figure out which special things to keep in his. Thank you for the washcloths as well.

Whoever brought extra cowbells, well I am not sure about you right now. :rolleyes1 For some reason Billy thinks that everything is worth cheering for especially inside the house. The dog is hiding under the bed which is an interesting sight since only his head fits. I may have a hard time explaining to the doctor why I keep hearing a ringing in my head. :lmao:

I am working on my report but I probably need to get caught up on everything that I neglected for the past month or so.....

I NEED SOME OF THAT WISH TEAM MAGIC

Since there is so much supportiveness floating around right now I am going to reach out to you guys and ask for some.

It seems that I pushed it way too much way too fast the past couple of weeks as I jumped RIGHT back in after 7 weeks after back surgery.

This whole weekend while we were at Disney my back was KILLING ME :scared:

I am so anxious to get back and I can honestly say that I have figured out that I am MAJORLY addicted to running, hence jumping right back into 3 and 4mile runs. I definately learned my lesson, I went to the gym tonight and did very light weights, core and stretching. I want to be there to do the full next year so what I am asking for is support and ACCOUNTABILITY:rolleyes1

OK so I will be posting what I am and am NOT doing and I hope you guys will help me through it.

After what I saw this weekend I have no doubt that you will.

So, after running my first marathon on Sunday, my day got even better!! We were walking towards the safari just before the afternoon parade in the animal kingdom and a cast member comes up to us and starts talking to me about the marathon, since I had my medal on.....well, I think the lady is just being nice but then she asks us if DBF and I would like to ride on a float in the parade!!! :cool1: :cool1:

I was sooooo... excited....so my awesome day got even better!!! Here we are riding in the FIRST float in the Jammin Jungle Parade with Rafiki!!!

Doing a race at WDW is so wonderful because of all the support that you get from the Scream Team and from fellow Wishers doing the race with you. I just wish I could have meet all of you. Actually from reading some of the race reports I am now better able to put name to the face.

Mel-- I was walking with you and Vic for a while on the stretch along BWV. I had to leave you or I might have stolen your soda. I grabbed a diet coke as soon as the race was over. And this is from a Pespi person.

By mile 18, I thought I would never finish, but between my walking partner Jeanne who kept saying we can do this and all the support from Wishers I was able to complete the Mickey in 6:57. I plan to be back next year, but will be doing the Donald and a Scream Team for the Mickey.

Thanks for the wonderful back pack.

Well, I didn't break any speed records, but thanks to all of your support and encouragement I DID make it across the line sub 3:30! I am so grateful and appreciative for all of your kindness and genorousity! It was wonderful to meet some of you at Pop on Friday and to talk with others at the start line or along the route. Special thanks to Valentine (Kathy) for the company on the way in! And thanks for the great backpacks, too! At first my friend thought I was nuts for joining up with a group of people I didn't know but now she wants to become a WISHer, too! Anyway, thanks so much to all of you and here's to the next half in 2009! Anyone doing the Disneyland Half?!? :)

hockeygirl/Laurie..FANTASTIC!!! How cool was that??!! party:
wfloyd/Bill, Oh, Bill!! You were such a lifesaver!! Your map was PERFECT!! It got us right to the turn around with no problem whatsoever. Thank you so much!!
KeNottAt/Kelley, I meant to say that I was so glad Mousekeeping found and returned your GARMIN!!
Angietuck2/Angie, You are stuck with us, kiddo! Slow it down and build back up gradually!! Slow now, so you can go fast and be healthy later!! HASTE MAKES WASTE!! (does that help...a little?)
Kristi1357/Kristi, Jim was telling us of your adventures with being refused admission to volunteer at the water stop!!:scared1: Can't wait for your report!!
chimera/Mel, awww, shucks, ma'am..:flower3:
Larahb/Lara, It was GREAT meeting you! Because of the special medal Disney is offering for doing 2008 WDW half or full and DL half, there will probably be more people than would have signing up. Keep an eye on the calendar at the top of this thread..

Hey everyone!

I'm back home now and missing Disney big time! Unfortunately, with the marathon events, I didn't get to do much "playing" but I sure enjoyed seeing everyone and getting that Mickey medal! If only I didn't have to walk/run 26.2 miles (more like 27 according to my Garmin!) to get it.

Unfortunately, work calls now :headache: so I won't get to post my marathon report until this weekend. Condensed version: I forgot my chip (long story), DH brought it to my around mile 13, I finished the race (thanks to Kareneast), my feet hurt, it's over!

Kelley - it was nice meeting you on the course. You're such a speedy walker. I'm so glad mousekeeping found your Garmin!

Laurie - :thumbsup2 for being in the parade. Great picture! Several friends and I were chosen to be in a Magic Kingdom parade last year due to the fact we had our medals on while visiting the park! That was a lot of fun. Enjoyed visiting with you on Sat. and Sunday.

Kristi - I didn't know that you were having a bad day on Saturday! You looked like you were doing pretty well when I saw you around the Polynesian. It was awfully hot and humid that day. Yikes! At least for the marathon, we had some breeze and clouds (during last half) for the most part. As for the medals at the end....more  :headache:  There is just NO EXCUSE for the "missing" medals. And, to be told that they would be sent to those that did not receive one. BAD IDEA! Half the fun is wearing it to the parks and around Disney. Someone in charge of medals just doesn't have a clue. :sad2:

Lara - I'm thinking about doing the Disneyland half. I think I blew my budget for the year at Disney in one weekend. :scared1: I'll have to look at my finances.

Carrie - how was Jikos? Boma was good as usual! I can't believe I made it there after the full. I could barely walk on my left foot. And, I was so tired. Getting up at 2:30am is not my idea of fun! ;)

Jeanne and Nancy - I really didn't mean to go off and leave you ladies. I wanted to get a little faster time in at first so I could slow down at the end (because I knew I would). I thought we might all catch up then but I pushed a little too hard and got too far ahead at the time.

Anne - thanks for dropping off my socks! :teeth: You are a life saver. Thanks so much to you and Heather for distributing those nice, cold oranges and for being our scream team top cheerleader! You are awesome!

Speaking of oranges, there were a few other ladies about a mile before Anne and Heather handing out cold, sliced oranges as well. They were sooooooo good!

Angie - you can do it! Just don't push too hard and hurt yourself! ;)

As for my future marathon plans - I don't have any. My next one may be for the 20th anniversary at Disney. :teeth: I don't think I will be back at Disney next year. :sad1: I'm already sad thinking about it. My DH, Steve, and I are thinking about doing the Phoenix Rock 'N Roll half next year instead. I don't know though, it's gonna be tough not being at Disney. We're also thinking about doing the Race for the Taste at Epcot in the Fall so we can work it in with the MNSSHP and the Food and Wine Festival. Anyone planning on doing that one? I did ToT last year and Steve can't too much Disney in one year. Go figure! ;)

Take care, all! I'm fading fast. Report to come soon.

I just wanted to add my congrats to everyone that participated in these events!!! You should all walk very proudly right now, I really wish I could have been there.

One way or another, I am going to sign up for the full next year! I'm pretty sure I'm ready for a full marathon, I just want Disney to be my first!

I too want to congratulate all who did the marathon I work at Epcot and I did meet a few of you only I didn't get names you came to my window and bought or got your tickets. I stood in the back where you all came through on my breaks and cheered you on along with all my other co-workers. Maybe next year I can meet some of you and be more of a cheering squad.

The marathon tracking thread got me thinking about what happened during the half. Between mile 11-12, my phone started ringing. Thinking it was my friend & DH, I answered it. It was my mom (@ home). She says, where are you? I say, somewhere between mile 11-12. She says, I got your 15K time, it's 2:09:55. It cracked me up, since she thought I should be done now, she didn't realize it was further than a 15k. (The last race I did that she was there for was the Minnie 15K) But her call did spur me on to go faster!

Then, when I call her after it was over, and tell her my time, she says, it took you that much longer to finish (3:04 from 2:09). I'm like, YEAH, it was another 4.1 miles! She says, but that took you an hour? YEP! I just laughed!

Morning all. We made it back home safely late last night, and back to work we go this morning.:sad1:

What a weekend we had! The WISH team is the greatest. Scream teamers are the best! Ya'll got us through to the end. The marathon itself wasn't the greatest, it was just one of those days. Scott and I had a great first half, around 2 hours for the first 13.1 and feeling good. But about the time we were coming out of Animal Kingdom, Scott started to cramp up really bad and we had to slow WAY down--ended up walking the last 6 miles or so. We are a running "team", and I stayed with him to the finish line. He was feeling really down on the out and back portion to WWOS and I told him, " We knew we weren't gonna be first and we know we won't be last--so lets just have fun and get the same medal as everyone else". We finished just under 5 hours--4:50 something. Definitely not a PR, but really, who cares--it was a great time. Thanks WISH team for an awesome time!

Can't wait for next year-oh, BTW, we're gonna go GOOFY!! Okay, so I verbalized it, so now it's a little more real. This next year will be the last year we have no kids in school, so it will still be easy for us to travel in January. So I told DH that I wanted to try the Goofy, he told me that he wasn't gonna let me out do him. So he's wants to be Goofy too!

Hi Everyone!

I don't think we can ever express our gratitude to the WISH Team, both dh and I found the Scream Team to be invaluable -- I knew you would be cheering (but not so many in so many places!), and dh is not on the Dis, so he was really blown away.

We went to the Pop meet, and it was so great to put faces with names. All my heroes in one room -- and you even look like regular people!:thumbsup2

We finished the Half, I have a Donald medal, and I had a blast! This is the first physically hard thing I've ever completed in my life, and my whole mindset changed out on the course. I went from I hope I can do this to I can do anything!

I'm not even sure of her screen name, but I want to thank Ruth from Chicago so much! She stayed with me (I know I was holding her back), and kept me going for the first five miles, then showed up again at mile 10 to keep me going. I don't know how she knew I was slowing down, but her encouragement made me finish. You know those threads you see about the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you at Disney? Well, her kindness was definitely the best -- I definitely feel a little pixie dust made it happen for me!

You guys are awesome! DH does not like Disney, I have to drag him there. After this race, he told me he wants to go back and do next year, you guys have made him a believer. I guess I'll have to keep training....:goodvibes

Ok, gotta get back into life, but I'll be posting!

Greetings Race Team -

I just want to say.......

 I HAD SO MUCH FUN IT SHOULD PROBABLY BE ILLEGAL! :yay:

OMG I had the BEST time! :thumbsup2 I LOVE LOVE LOVE doing the Half! OMG what a total blast! :yay:

I am SO proud of Charlie! :thumbsup2 He did so well in his first marathon! Plus, he was fine afterwards! We spent all day Monday at Epcot and he did DiveQuest and had a great time. He's a little stiff going down stairs but that's it. I'm so proud of him! He wants me to make "WISH Flash Cards" because every time I say something about one of you, he says "Now which one was that?" He certainly remembers Rhonda and Kathy though. For reasons that shall remain unspoken here. We have photographic evidence....Whatever happens in Cam and Howards Beach Club Villa...stays in Cam and Howard's Beach Club Villa! :rolleyes1

I'll have a little bit of a trip/race report probably tomorrow, with pics.

I too want to add a huge THANK YOU to all the Scream Teamers for the Half. You guys have no idea what you meant to me. How energized I felt when I saw/heard WISH screamers! Thank you so very much!

I'm happy with my 3:03:28. I really really really wanted to come in sub-3 but I did take eleven minutes off last year. I'm thrilled with that!

Karen and John - Thank you so much for the backpack! I love it and will always use it in the parks! John,

Kristi - I'm sorry you had a lousy Half. Sign up for next year and we'll train virtually together. I really want to do WS#2 again. That was a total blast!:cheer2: Charlie is going to sign up for medal duty for the Half. I'll make sure he wears a WISH shirt!

Angie - I can't believe your back was hurting you Sunday morning. You are SUCH a bundle of energy and so enthusiastic I had no idea you were hurting!

Krista - I'm really sorry you didn't get to join us. I can't believe there wasn't a work-around. Please sign up for next year. We had SO much fun!

Pat -

Where's Martha????? OMG I am SO proud of her! :woohoo:

OK, OK, I'll go skim thru my work emails....then I'll be back!

We made it home yesterday (Tuesday) ! I cannot thank the wonderful people on this forum enough. Your encouragement before and during the marathon were great. :goodvibes I made it -- and have the medal to show for it. :woohoo: I missed the "official time" by a couple of minutes, but stayed ahead of the sweepers and finished which were my goals.

Thanks to all the WISHERS I met: Dave, Erica, Rhonda, and all the other faces whose names are lost in the running fog. A special thank you to all the WISH spectators -- you were great -- and to the special WISH angel who gave me the ice -- :cloud9: it made all the difference in that mile.

It was a wonderful trip. We are all still in a state of disbelief that we were actually there and I actually finished a marathon. It was a wonderful celebration of God's faithfulness. I can't wait to show off my medal at my next doctor's appointment!

Thanks guys!

Congratulations to you all!!!

I have a question. I am planning on doing the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon. I have never been in a race, I am trying to figure out what to put on the registration for estimated time. I am on W2D1 of Marathoning for Mortals. I am doing just over 2 miles at just under 15:00 per mile. I have no idea how to figure out what I might be doing by August. My plan is to run 4, walk 1. I just don't know how fast I'll be able to do it. I had thought about just putting 3:30, but I am not sure if that is the best thing to do. My trainer says my goal should be 3:00, but I don't know about that either.

Thanks for any input!

Maherae
01-16-2008, 11:58 AM
Michelle, If your trainer thinks 3:00 is doable for you, go with that. If you are faster, you'll have to move past more people! ;) If you are slower, they'll have to move past you! If, at the time of the race, you really feel that 3:30 is your pace, you can always move back a corral...you just can't move forward. I'm sure that there are dishonest people out there who put 2:45 just to get into a closer corral. Anything faster than that requires proof of time. Hope this helps! :goodvibes Anne

I'm here! I was just so swamped yesterday and haven't had a chance to say THANK YOU ALL MY WISH FRIENDS!!! You all are the best. I met so many of you and everyone was so supportive during this race. I didn't run the time I was hoping but I finished in under 6 hours. The first half was really good but then my IT band seized up and it was slow going the rest of the way.

Special shout out to Carrie and Scott! They stayed with me the last 2 miles and Scott caught me as I collapsed after finishing (IT band on both legs seized up)!

Judy: you are the best! Thank you for all your words of kindness and support! I don't know where I'd be without you. You did GREAT on the 1/2 and should be very proud of your effort!

Cam and Rhonda: you guys did great! Yup, what happens in Cam and Howard's BCV, stays there! ;)

Cruella de Mom: great meeting you! Thanks for your support when I was in such pain. I hope you got the time you wanted!

Shout out to Chad for crossing the finish line with us! You da MAN!!

Heather, Jenn: you're the best for cheering us on both days! I bet Jenn now understands her parent's talk about the WISH team!

Lily: WTG on the Goofy! Can you walk yet?

Howard, Charlie: you all did so well! Awesome job!!!

Colleen: thanks for passing along the message to DH. He really did feel bad.

And, Calcio, as always:  :love2:

I'm not much into the mushy stuff, but I wanted to post this for most to see.

You, my WISH teammates, are without a doubt, the kindest, toughest, friendliest, and funniest/craziest, group of people I've had the honor to associate with in a long, long time.

From our meet and greets, to the volunteers, to our scream-teamers, you guys are the best.

I want to thank those who bought and then gave away the cowbells, clappers, and other scream team equipment. I also want to say thank you to Karen and John for the backpacks. That was very cool.

To the new folks we met, it was very nice meeting you. To our old friends, it was nice seeing you again. To those we haven't met yet, we'll do it next time.

For the scream-teamers, you guys don't know how much I appreciated seeing you on Sunday. Kathy, Jen, Anne, Heather, Kristi, Angie, Krista, Steve, Stephanie, IronZ, and everyone who braved the heat and crowds to cheer us on. I appreciate each and everyone of you. A special mention goes out to Jen117's DH. Everytime I looked up there he was. Sir, ya done good!

For our volunteers, a very special thanks to you too. Getting up at 0'dumb-thirty to work a marathon takes dedication. It was very much appreciated. I couldn't get over to thank those at waterstop #2 red as we ran by, and Kim and Mike, I don't remember seeing you, but thanks again for being out there.

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to do the full or the 1/2 next year. It will be one or the other.

Ok, I'm done. Back to being a dork. :thumbsup2

Hey Gang,

I don't end up signing on very often, so cherish the moment :thumbsup2

I really enjoyed meeting everyone again at our WISH meets and the races. It takes me a while to get to know people, so please forgive me if I called you by another name...I'm tryin'!

Thanks, LILY, for keeping us all in high spirits before the Half. It was my first, so I was pretty nervous. I had so many friendly faces there - Judy, Helen, Jennifer, Erin (my great pace-buddy), and so many others. It was funny to see so many of us chowing down at O'hana Sunday eve, seems like that's a popular place to put back the calories.

I'm considering the FULL for next year, sort of a 'Marathon Before Forty' goal. If Mel can do it, I think I might be able to, as well... my legs may have a different opinion, but a little Bio-Freeze will shut 'em up :lmao:

THANK YOU ALL for your incredible ongoing support and friendship - not only to my DW but for the rest of us (myself, DD15 and WT).

You Guys SO rock.

Take Care,

Hi everyone! I'm back home now after a great marathon weekend. I just want to echo what so many others have said - THANKS SO MUCH - to all of the scream teamers who were all along the course for the half. I appreciated all of you so much. I had a tough day with a very sore back (from tight hamstring on my right leg) and blisters on the balls of my feet (first time that has EVER happened). The big groups of WISHers at the TTC, MK, and outside of Epcot (some of whom I saw at earlier spots -you guys get around) helped more than you will ever know. I also really enjoyed the many brief encounters I had with other team members during the race. What a nice bunch of people. I just wish I was better with names. But, trust me, I remember each and every one of you. I did a bit of cheering for the full at the YC/BC and continued for a while more outside of Sci-Fi. It was very nice to meet Krista and Angie and I really have some cowbell envy. I got to get me one of those things! Anyway thanks again to all of you. Now it's on to more training!

Hey everybody!! Stephen and I are still here in WDW, just got back from AK and heading to Jiko tonight for dinner. Right now Stephen is working out, but I conveniently left all my running clothes at home. Heh, heh. :)

I just wanted to say how much fun I had with everyone this weekend, it was a blast! I am so proud of each and every one of you who competed in the different races. I know some of you were hurting and maybe ready to quit, but let me tell you in all honesty you all looked SO strong coming into mile 12 for the half and mile 24.5 for the full. I was so proud to cheer for you and to call you my teammates. You all rock!! I have a TON of pictures from the full marathon that I will post when we get home on Sunday.

I'm looking forward to training with you all this year, I decided to go ahead and sign up for the half and we'll see what happens with the baby in August. I'm pretty sure that as long as I keep my training up, I should be able to have the baby and be ready to race 5 months later. Fingers crossed!

Angie--It was so great meeting you, I had the best time scream teaming with you on Sunday! Thanks for being there!!

Anne--Let me tell you, it was an adventure! Especially when I followed the exit signs at WWoS and it took me out on another road--not Victory and I ended up at AK parking lot at 3:00 am. Or how about when I left TTC after Stephen passed and took the monorail back to Epcot to drive to SSR to check us in before heading to mile 24. Yeah, who knew the roads would still be closed and when I made it out on the highway after exiting Epcot that all traffic was funneled out of property! My 3 options were: Orlando International Highway, I-4 East, or I-4 West.   I still don't know how I found my way back onto Disney property!!

Judy--Volunteering sounds fun for next year, but I'm not sure I can do it with the baby. Glad you made it home safely.

Pat--

I'll talk to everyone when we get home! Love you all!!!!

Hey all... just got back from the World... sigh... and now we are trying to get DD's homework done for tomorrow. She didn't want to do it at WDW!!! I made it back and am feeling pretty good. I was really disappointed in myself during the marathon, wondering why I didn't have more drive. But then people kept telling me how proud I should be of finishing and how it is such a great accomplishment, then I realized how far I have come. My goal now is to lose those last 30 pounds and train to get faster.

OK, as for the race, my PF flared up at around mile 9 and by AK I was dying of heat. But I kept plugging along and didn't ever want to give up.

MEL AND VIC - I am only going to say this once. As we trudged along those last 4 miles together... Need I remind you both that you said NEVER AGAIN!!!!! :rotfl2:

Mel - Oh you didn't drag me down at all. In fact, I was worrying that you had more in you than I did. I am so happy that we both finished and got that medal. Like I said above, we should be PROUD because we did it. I will run with you again anytime, and I promise to not drop like a fly next time!!!

OK, kids need dinner, I will check in later.

Anything said after 20 miles doesn't count. Just like what ever happens in Cam and Howard's villa. :lmao:

Well if Jeff does the full, then I'm doing the half :thumbsup2 We talked about alternating years until WT is older.

We did 2 miles tonight, slooooow and easy. I feel pretty good, ankle is back to normal and I was able to take the stairs at work again. Only slightly stiff when I dropped something on the floor and had to bend down and pick it up :worship:

I think it's finally sinking in...I finished a marathon!

Jeff just registered for the Sarasota half so he'll be ramping back up soon. I have Minnie up next so don't need to start real training for a couple weeks.

Angie...hope your back starts feeling better soon

Susan...sorry we didn't get to meet. Will you be joining us next year? Good luck with those INTERVALS :scared1:

So, Jen...what are you registering for next year? :rolleyes1

I had so much fun last weekend! You guys are the best! Anne and I really enjoyed cheering everyone on at Mile 20 at the turn-around point. I have already started my shopping list for next year: more oranges, big rolling coolers full of ice and non-Dasani water, licorice whips (thanks again Kathy for the great idea!), more washcloths, sport beans, pretzel rods, and, of course, MORE COWBELL!!!!

I signed up for the 2009 1/2 marathon and the Minnie 15K today. I look forward to another year of training with all of you. The WISH team rocks!

A special Thank You to Anne for being such a great cheerleader and scream team partner on Sunday! And an extra hug to Laura, Sandy, Kristi, Kathy, and Lynnda who all traveled 13.1 LONG miles only to find that there was no Donald medal waiting for them. We all must write Disney and complain about that! Two years in a row they "misplace" the medals and run out at the finish line? :confused3 Inexcusable. I might need bail money if they run out of medals before I get to the finish line next year because I will definitely hurt somebody.

Thanks Heather -
Like others have stated, it was so hard to get to know everyone - so many of you knew each other - Tim said he really enjoyed sharing the time with the Half Scream Team -

I'm still waiting for the swelling to go down on my feet, but I signed up for an 8K in March and the Chicago Half in August - we have to sit out the '09 Marathon as our first born is getting married Jan '09!! DH thinks we can make a side trip!! :rotfl2: I'm going to want to dance at the wedding dear!! :)

It was overwhelming - and like others have said Tim and I echo, we couldnt have done it without the WISH Team - Tim was so exhausted, full of blisters we left the staging area of the marathon, stopped at Hurricane Hannahs for a beer and burger, only to realize the SCREAM TEAM WAS THERE!! Tim put down his beer and started screaming for the rest of the pack - as I bring our burger out a lady approached Tim and said "I RECOGNIZE you - you screamed for me, and you didnt know me - all those shirts stand out - but you called me by name, and it made a difference, and I want to thank ALL of you!!"

Now about that letter to Disney - not only am I hurt that I didnt get a medal at the finish, but to add insult to injury - they turn off the chip timer? Would it kill anyone to leave it on? I mean seriously, YOU DIDNT SWEEP me, so leave on the timer!! BECAUSE DISNEY (or whoever is in charge) doesnt take into account how long it takes to pass the START line- - they have a predetermined time necessary to open the roads, so I get the sweep time management - but I MADE it thru those points - so give me a TIME - keep your certificate - but I dont think (and maybe I"m just so so ignorant - and I accept it is all my fault, if I hadnt stopped in MK I would've made it in 4 hours, not 4:05)

<stepping off soap box - I"ll try and remain off of it> (it just means I'll BE BAAACK!)

Hi Mel - yes I was hoping to meet you too but no such luck! I'm not sure about next year yet but I am mulling over trying for the full. I will have to get much more serious about training if I do and we all know that means MORE INTERVALS :scared1:. Congrats on finishing the full. That medal is awesome!

Well now I know who all three of the people I was with for a short time on the walkway over to Boardwalk were--- Vic, Jen and Mel. I was dying and would have just liked to have stopped at BWV and gone to bed by then. Somehow my feet kept me going to the finish line.

Judy--- How many people did it take to eat throught the Kitchen sink?

Enjoying reading everyones adventures.

I'll be back next year but will be doing the Donald.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I'm really enjoying reading all the reports. I can visualize you all on the course, and I'm thinking how much fun everyone must have had partying together. How great it must have been to run into each other at the start and along the course. I'm very proud of all my teammates and friends. I can't wait to see you all again soon..

Anne- I loved your story about the WISH socks. I need to get back on that again. Maybe with the new people around we can get enough people to place an order.

I've been diligently biking 30-35 min everyday. I haven't done any running since last week because I still feel some irritation in my hip. It feels like there's something in the socket itself now. I'm planning on running again on Saturday. We'll see how it goes.

I have a request, I submitted some of my photos for the DIS Unplugged Podcast photo contest, but no one's voting for any of my photos. Could I recruit some of my friends/teammates to check out some of my photos and vote if you like any. Thanks. If you want to vote for a photo, I think you need to log into the photopost site. Click the login link in the upper right hand corner of the blue box.

OK everyone... I am back at work today and had to drive in a snowstorm. What a huge change in weather for me. Oh and my knees ache because of it.

Mel - I think I am going to work on getting faster... so I am pretty sure I will do the 1/2 marathon and work on a PR and maybe the 5K if I can make it there in time. I think I may do another Full, I am just not planning to do it next year.

OK, today is day 1 of losing these last 30 pounds. I hate my thunder thighs!!! And I decided that on Saturday I am NOT doing a long run. My first time in almost a year!!!!!

I just have to chime in & add my disappointment at the medal situation. Two years in a row is unacceptable! And then the chip timer being turned off?? I'll be writing to Disney with feedback and suggestions for next year, and these things will be at the top of the list. (I'm also going to suggest disposable toothbrushes at the finish, because after 26.2 miles of Powerade drinking, my mouth felt icky and my breath was probably worse. Note to self: pack toothbrush/paste in bag next year. Did I just say next year? :scared1:)

And to Sandy and everyone else who finished but didn't get their medals, I just want to say that you're the real winners in my book! Not only did you finish, but I just know you handled the affront to your accomplishment with style and grace. I'm so proud to be associated with people who epitomize what it means to be good sports & true winners! :)

As for me, I'm easing back into a "normal" workout routine after this weekend, which feels weird. The blisters still hurt, so I went the gym last night & used the elliptical instead of the treadmill. Just moving without impact on my feet felt really good, so I stayed on for about an hour. I'm hoping to literally be back on my feet by tomorrow or Saturday. I need to get a new training program, so I'm hoping to do some research on that tonight or tomorrow; one of the best things about this experience is that I learned I really like the structure training for an event gives me.

Morning everyone!!

I am SO proud of Charlie! :thumbsup2 He did so well in his first marathon! Plus, he was fine afterwards!

NO KIDDING!!! At Mile 12, it was like "Hi Charlie!... Oh, Bye Charlie!!" I'm sure when you do the full next year you'll be the same way.... ;)

He certainly remembers Rhonda and Kathy though. For reasons that shall remain unspoken here. We have photographic evidence....Whatever happens in Cam and Howards Beach Club Villa...stays in Cam and Howard's Beach Club Villa! :rolleyes1

What an AMAZING weekend this was!! I sadly had to leave in the predawn hours Monday morning to get to work in Fort Lauderdale, but it was SO SO worth it that I made the trip and took a chance to run and finish the Goofy.

It was so wonderful to finally meet so many of the people on these boards after so long, not to mention seeing the few familiar faces that I'd met before. To both the new folks and old folks alike here-- this group of people is so encouraging, kind and generous it is almost unbelieveable. Everything from the beginning of the weekend to the end was very WISH filled for me and that made things even more special.

I'm working on yet another epic race report (so Judy will have something new to read), and I hope to have that posted sometime early next week. I have so many people to thank for helping me through this past weekend, I figure that would be the place to do it....

Apparently, according to the ladies of WISH, I "have" to come up for Minnie weekend and... I'm pretty close to being sold on the idea. :) I think I had too much fun this weekend, LOL. I'm trying to work out a race schedule for 2008 that will prep me for.... the 2009 Goofy, I think. :faint: I want to see how I can do with it if I actually trained hard... if nothing else, perhaps I wouldn't feel like death warmed over for the last 18 miles of the full. :)

I'm off for now... but if there is anyone lurking out there or posting sitting on the fence trying to decide if they can can do it... YES, YOU CAN!!!

Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

Greetings Race Team -

You guys are ambitious. I've done nothing since Saturday. I'll hop on the TM tomorrow morning for 20 min then do 2 miles Saturday. Then back to my regularly scheduled training until it's time to ramp up for the Minnie. :thumbsup2

Dave - I'll go vote. Be right over there as soon as I am done here. :woohoo:

Kevin - Thank you for your kind words but I have no intention of doing the Full until maybe my 50th birthday. Which gives me, oh, 15 years or so to train. :lmao: Charlie has been talking about the Goofy, but we'll see. It was really great to meet you, finally! And I am waiting on that trip report.... Oh please please please come to the Minnie! You're so close now, you have no excuse! :yay:

I'm going to post some pics now in a separate thread so I'll be back later. :surfweb:

It is great to read everyone's race reports from the weekend. I am reading them all so I can get ready for next year. Before we know it we will all be back to training like crazy (especially if this year goes as fast as 2007 did)

I am slowly working up to my "official" training for Minnie which starts the week of Feb 24. I did 2 miles on the TM this morning and thought I was going to die!! Not really but.... We had the windows opened because the last few days it was chilly but this morning it started getting warmer and so without the air on it got hot. How I wish we would at least get a whole weeks worth of cold!! I barely manged the 2 miles in 25:35. I better get my butt in gear so I can start my training in Feb!!! YIKES

Congrats again to everyone getting back. I have enjoyed reading everyone's reports and would love to see more pics! ;)

Jen in GA, I read your blog. Awesome! Loved it. Congrats on going Goofy! :thumbsup2

DH and I have been talking about plans for the half for next year so it is fun to read and see everyone's experiences from this race.

I'm now in week 5 of 15 for my half training. I was gonna run 6 today, but the weather was yucky. I'm planning on running it tomorrow instead. This will be only the fourth time I've ever run a 10K. Wish me luck!

Oh, I don't know who mentioned it, but I ordered a pair of those Airdrives headphones. We'll see if they're any better than those other speakers I ordered that gave me a scar. Yep, a scar. (They clip on your clothes and they rubbed me raw!)

I just want to say that it is so great to read everyone's race reports! Keep them coming! I'm just starting out and feel like 2 miles takes everything I've got. It's so hard for me to believe that I could get to the point where I could run the half next year. When I read your reports I know that it's possible.

Thanks!

Hi Guys!!! I’m just trying to get back to normal life again. I have to say that this year’s marathon weekend was incredible!!! The highlights included meeting up with DisBoards friends like Scott, Laurie, Stacie, and the entire WiSH racing team. I met people at the dis Pop meet, for lunch at MK and most importantly on the race course. Seeing Laurie, Kevin, Howard, Renee, Denny, Stephanie and Scott among others AND most incredibly ALL the scream team support was just a huge boost, particularly during
day 2 of the Goofy Challenge. Running with Scott (ScoJo15) was once again an absolute pleasure as we really helped to pull one another through some really tough times on Sunday. Thanks buddy!!!!

My overall thoughts on the Goofy challenge:

I WOULD do it again, absolutely. I would just need to take the lessons learned from this year and apply them. I felt like I was well trained, my legs held up and I never hit a wall during the entire race. I felt particularly and surprisingly good from miles 20-26. Go figure. The first half of the marathon was tough because my legs felt more tired, naturally, but I was able to get past that once I hit AK and push onward. At that point my body just seemed to say “ok…looks like you’re going through with this….so let’s just move on”. The only issue was the fatigue from two EARLY mornings accompanied by my inability to fuel up enough on Saturday for Sunday’s long race. Scott and I both felt like we were lacking energy due to food and not so much training. The humidity also played into that, as we were sweating like crazy from mile 1 onward in both races. Even though we both took gels more frequently than we even anticipated…and ate along the course….and both carried and took water along the course….we still felt like we couldn’t get enough energy. So it wasn’t our legs or our endurance that let us down, it was our nutrition. Speaking with others who ran Goofy, several said the same thing.
As for the organization, I personally felt that Disney did a lot of things right this year and corrected issues that came up last year. Plenty of TP in the porta-potties! PLENTY of water (thank God). And just tons of support along the GF area where it was desolate for us last year.

During the half marathon I had an absolute BLAST. We just took our time and enjoyed every last second, getting pictures, chatting up fellow runners, enjoying the sights and sounds. We finished a little faster than planned . We had decided to try to run/walk a 2:45 half but came in around 2:29. I don’t think this actually factored into day two at all. My legs felt perfect (no soreness, no tightness, no aching, no cramping) going into the marathon the next morning! I was surprised that I felt very strong, albeit sleepy. Our plan was to finish the marathon somewhere between 4:30 and 5:00 hours depending on the weather. Once we realized that the course was really too crowded starting in the corral that we did, thus we couldn’t log fast miles for the first 5 miles of the race, we gave up on 4:30 and set our sights on a solid 5 hour finish. The humidity was factoring in a bit as well so we were happy to take a 5. Unfortunately, my stomach issues reared their ugly head around miles 10 and 13 so that slowed us down a bit. I would guess that overall we lost a solid 10 to 15 minutes due to waiting on line for porta-potties and having to stop completely. After mile 13 Scott’s legs started cramping, which I feel was due to excessive sweating AND lack of food, not to mention having to stop for my stomach problems. He was absolutely starving hungry for the entire second half of the race and that factored in largely to his bad leg cramps IMO. My legs felt strong but my stomach was just not cooperating. It made for a tough race, but things settled down and we walked a lot to ease his leg cramps. We were able to finish in 5:23 and all things considered that is nothing to be ashamed of. I PR’d by 1 hour over last year LOL! So hey…who can complain about that right?!

Post race I felt surprisingly good…it took a couple of hours for my feet to stop being sore and my legs to settle down. I took one aleve and we hit the parks for some rides (ended up getting STUCK on ToT!), some dinner (props to our favorite bartender David from 50’s Prime Time and favorite waiter David from Brown Derby!!!) and ultimately some partying. I danced like crazy, ended up on stage at Jelly Rolls and made some new friends! On Monday my legs felt amazingly good….slightly tight but nothing unusual after a long run. My shoulders and upper back were sore but that dissipated quickly.

If I decide to run goofy next year, the only thing I would do differently would be to eat MUCH more the week leading up to the races, then on Saturday after the Half eat LOTS of small portions constantly throughout the day. I also need to figure out how to handle my stomach condition better….I don’t want to go through another race dealing with porta-potties and losing 10-20 minutes as I’ve done the past two years.

Finally I have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to the WiSH scream teams. You guys were EVERYWHERE on the course both Saturday and Sunday. Anne and Heather at Mile 21...you guys were just a sight for sore eyes! I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to see those smiling faces when I needed them most. Laurie and Kevin…it was an honor spending time with you guys on the course on Sunday. It helped me a TON! Renee…I hope you’re feeling good and that your back is better, I know we were commiserating in the AK parking lot and I was hoping to see you at the finish. You guys all totally ROCK!! And Scotty….my running partner….it goes without saying but I had soooo much fun this year with you! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

So what’s next??? We’re looking at a few half marathons this spring, going to choose one of them (Country Music, Kentucky Derby, Flying Pig or who knows???), after that Disneyland in August for sure (YAY!) and next January MAYBE Goofy :goofy:. But I am absolutely planning on running another marathon in a year from now! Congratulations to all the Wish 5K, Half, Full and Goofy Runners. You guys are all amazing and should be SOOO proud of your accomplishments.

Dana...congrats on shaving so much time off...that's amazing! What's your secret?

Bill...what are you and Lynnda registering for next year?

DH mailed our registrations today :) He just registered for his first full, I'm going to do the half. I think we're going to alternate years (depending on how 2009 goes).

Jen...wanna go for a half PR next year? My motto for 2008...better, stronger, faster!

Judy: you are the best! Thanks for the pictures of me and Craig and the hot fudge sundae. By the time I thought to think about it, the thought of it made me nauseaus! YOU are the BEST!!

I did my first cardio today since Sunday. 20 minutes on the eliptical and 10 minutes on the bike. My legs were very heavy. Shock of shocks! I will slowly start back into the swing but will not be running until probably the end of the month. But the eliptical, bike and stairmaster (IF my IT bands hold up) are still a good workout. It just feels kind of strange to consider a 30 minute workout as a workout! LOL!!! :rotfl:

DH came home today from Florida. We are happy to see him: the cats have not left him alone yet! Work is busy as ever but I think I've caught up so I can now move forward.

Hope everyone has a great evening!

No way in you-know where!
We did that race last year. They said it was hilly.
They underestimated "hilly!"
I did finish and had a PR (see what training will do for ya? ), but I was in alot of pain and was crying after the race because I hurt so bad.

Let me talk to Mom and Chad, and see if our bad memories have faded enough to go for it again. (ok, maybe I am crazy)
I do need a reason to train - without a race, I am a total slacker!

Hi everyone! We arrived back home yesterday evening. I wanted to thank everyone for their time and friendship during the weekend. I got to meet a lot of new WISH friends I previously hadn't met and actually got to run (and/or visit with) some during the Marathon on Sunday.

First my stats:

Half-Marathon : 2:24:16 11:00 Pace, 4,586 out of 12,288 finishers.

Marathon : 5:18:45 12:01 Pace, 6,785 out of 12,964 finishers.

According to published reports there were 18,000 signed up to participate in the Marathon and 16,500 for the Half-Marathon. 3,000 signed up for the Goofy. :goofy:

So, you can see that there were probably a combination of no-shows and those who could not complete the races. It is a tough endeavor, all those that got to the starting line are champions in my book. I witnessed some gutzy people laying it on the line. I am inspired by them all.

I am happy with both my races and the resulting times given my short training schedule ( a little over 3 weeks), the congestion in the early part of the course and the temperature/conditions, etc. I bettered both of my Goofy times from last year too! I actually had a rougher race experience during the Half-Marathon. I was tight, had to stop twice to stretch, got winded, etc. During the Marathon, I never stopped or had to to stretch, felt strong and displayed short bursts of energy to pass people as needed. My feet/toes suffered a lot during the weekend of racing. I had some serious blister issues, everything is almost back to normal now. At one point during the Marathon I think I referred to my legs as feeling like there were two bloody stumps at the ends of them. That is pain. :headache:

I enjoyed spending time in the Corrals with SilverE, Kevin - SoloTraveler, Kevin Z., Lynne- Xterratri, SteelerSteve, Cruella, Stephanie, Denny, etc.

I managed to run in the Marathon with/beside or just behind AmyBeth, Denny (Your it!), Kevin - SoloTraveler, Sara - Mlsrobs, Stephanie - Nucpharm, Bill, Martha, Charlie ( I assume you were near me based on our finish times - 5:18:14 Charlie / Howard 5:18:45), etc.

It was so great to see everyone and spend time chatting, sharing tips, and hanging out.

A special "THANK YOU!!!" to all of the WISHers who got up in the wee hours of the morning to cheer us on. I loved seeing everyone of you on the course and looked forward to every "COWBELL" along the way. I will be among you next year during the half. I have decided to run in the 5K with DS and in the Marathon (no Goofy in 2009).

To Kathy (Valentine): Thank you for your time both before, during and after the races. Your time spent with me, Cam and Jenn were wonderful. :cloud9: We will miss you tons and hope to set up an interim visit at a midway point sometime soon. The "whips" certainly gave me a boost on the course and you did off the course. Have a safe trip home later in the week.

Kevin - SoloTraveler: I enjoyed meeting you and running with you for the first part of the Marathon. I think we made it about 4 or 5 miles together. I could have finished with you, I came in not too far behind with my running partner, KevinZ.

Lynne: You were missed during the Marathon. I am so glad Erin was there for Cam, your lil sis is an angel. Take care of yourself. Good luck in HI!

Martha & Craig: It was a true pleasure sharing time with you (as always) at LeCellier and at the various events throughout the weekend. Congratulations on your efforts!

Lastly, I am SOOOoooooooooooooooooooo proud of my lovely bride, Cam. She exemplifies the true WISH spirit and always gives of herself to others and to her marathon/half-marathon efforts. Great job babe.

Hello WISH team:

I really feel like a REAL member of the WISH team after spending time with you guys this weekend, and I didn't even run :lmao:

I know I was always an OFFICIAL member, we all are but now I feel closer to you.

Jen Thank you for finding me at Kid's races and I am sorry I never came and found you again, we were actually out by track and it was chaotic :scared1: Poor DS lost shoe right as race started and had to fight 75 sprinting 7 & 8 year olds to get it :headache: But he fought his way back and finished anyway. You looked good when I saw you on the course for the full and at mile 24.5 !! YOU GO GIRL
Krista I was sooooooo happy when I saw you come walking up at BC I wasn't sure if you were still coming and I had a lot of fun "screaming" with you!!!! Can't wait to see you guys again.
Kristi & Judy I had sooooooooo much fun with you guys at the water stop :cheer2: I would definately do it again, but I better be running next year!!!!!
Cam & Howard & Rhonda and Cam DD Thank you so much for the hospitality. I was so happy to be able to stay and do water stop and scream team!! I honestly had soooo much fun doing that.

To anyone out there who is new please don't be afraid to jump in here anytime. I found these boards right before marathon last year and have been hooked ever since. This team has gotten me through an awesome 1/2 PR at Gasparilla even better PR 15k at MINNIE MARATHON !!! :dance3: back surgery for me and DH and my college graduation!!!!!!!

You guys are like family!!

I know there are soo many people I am forgetting from this weekend but I can not possibly remember everyone I am soo sorry. There were two other people who joined us at BW to scream team and I can't remember names, please tell me who you were.

OK really long post sorry but as for the training. I did a class tonight at gym called Bodyflow - it is PERFECT for me right now with my back issues. It's a combination of Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and core work. It felt really good. :woohoo:

So have a good night everyone and welcome back

Judy-- That's good.... begging usually works... but I fear I'll need a costume if I Minnie with you all...

AmyBeth-- :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I felt so badly when I ran into you two at the half point during the full... I thought you were right behind me and then *poof* you were gone... glad to hear you made it through.

And a huge WORD to your entire post. I swear we had the very same race experience this year. Like I have told everyone since, it wasn't so much that I was sore during the full, I was TIRED! Two 2:30am wakeup calls, all those miles... I have to rethink that preparation for next year.

Howard-- It was very nice to finally meet you as well "corral buddy." And trust me, I have a sneaking suspicion that you could not only have run with me, but smoked my butt after about mile 18 or so. Please make sure you pass on our congratulations to Kevin on finishing his 1,000 miles.

While I'm still working on a race report, I did want to stop by and say a big THANK YOU to every one of the WISH'ers who made the weekend experince a great one. Whether it was kindness and comraderie at the POP meet, encouragement and companionship out there during the races themselves, or the tremendous support given by those lining all areas of the courses...this is truly a second to none organization that made me happy to be a part of.

My goal is to stop lurking so much this year and post more so that I can try to give back a fraction of what you all provide each and every week.

Kevin and Laurie - It was nice to run with you guys for a bit out there. Congrats to each of you on a job well done!

AmyBeth - Thanks for being the best race parter in the world! Your words and actions helped me get through those final 6 miles on Sunday and I cannot thank you enough. Here's hoping for a successful Goofy '09 ;)

Okay.. Howard.. you made me cry!! Here I am sitting in my room at POP... surfing the boards when I should be sleeping... and I came across your post... Wow.. you are just a truly amazing human... And I am sure that many here who have spent any time with you echo that sentiment!! Thank you so much for allowing me to share your family time... it was a joy and a blessing!!

Kristi: I was giving serious contemplation to signing up for the MDI Marathon in Bar Harbor, Maine but it is REALLY hilly too. There is one in Portland in October, the 5th or 6th I think if you are interested in that. I remembered you saying that Great Bay was hilly but I talked to my SIL and she said that Hampton was too. I am not sure about Portland, I will have to consult SilverSteve on that one. I also saw that there is a 5K on 4/26 in Portsmouth called Out of Hibernation which made me :lmao: . I need something to keep me going.

SilverSteve...are you out there...did you make it back okay?????? Any input on either MDI or the Maine Marathon?

More snow on tap today, just a little though 3-6" so back to the treadmill and XT with shoveling!! Hope everyone gets back into the swing soon. Have a great day!!! :goodvibes

Lisa - let me know which ones you are doing. I absolutely NEED a race to get my behind in gear! I was going to try to do Minnie again ths year. But I really think $$$ is going to be an issue. :sad2: I can definately say no to Hampton though. Who runs a race at a beach in New England in February? NOT ME! :rotfl: The Portsmouth 5k would be cool, but I get nervous about local 5ks since they tend to be more hardcore runners. Not run/walkers like me.

Howard: You kicked butt on both the 1/2 and full marathon races! You did so very well and should be so very proud of your effort. You're also right about Cam: she totally rocks in my book. Craig and I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with you and Cam and Jenn. Jenn was so great to get out there at those ungodly hours to cheer for us all on both days! I know she can do the 1/2 next year!!!

Loved meeting everyone at the WISH meet on Friday. I've been bragging about all of you to my co-workers and family. You all are great!

OK, I am just getting over the teary eyes after reading Cam's report. Cam - You are the BEST!

Mel - I would love to get a PR next year... PR or ER!!! Are you saying you will try for race #3 with me??? Wow, you are a glutton for punishment!!!

Vic - DH (Paul) said he saw you everywhere on the course. He really enjoyed being there for the team this year (oh and I threatened him that he had to!!!)

Work is insane for me, but I keep coming on here to check the reports. I hope to get some pics together this weekend and post them. DH took a lot of the WISHers, so if anyone wants copies once I post then just PM me!!!

Guess what just came to our house, overnighted via UPS?
TWO DONALD MEDALS!!!

Umm, we got ours, thanks.
How about next time, you have them at the finish for people who didn't get theirs? And maybe save the money overnighting them to people, esp. people who already have them, and spend the money on making sure they are there at the FINISH!!!

Ok, rant over....for now.... :rolleyes1

Hey all! DH posted our race reports if anyone wants to read. Warning... they are long... ;) The WISH team is just too amazing to limit our stories to only a few words! :goodvibes

Billy has been sick all morning - but I think he is doing a bit better. Bill has the day off and got the smoker fired up with ribs - yummmmm!!! Anyone want to come over? :thumbsup2

As for me, the soreness has finally ended, and I am hoping to get out on the bike this afternoon. Sunday afternoon I'm supposed to meet a buddy for a walk and possibly bike if the weather cooperates. I have to get training for Minnie and the Danskin Tri. Yea! :cool1:

Mel - DH is most likely doing the full, and I am planning on the half next year.

Kristi - I have no words about the medals... Congratulations to you on the race, though!!!! :thumbsup2

Well, I need to head into work for a couple hours. I will check in with you all later. Thank you all again for an amazing weekend!!!! :grouphug:

Wow! Everyone's race reports are wonderful! I did a much-too-long report on a separate thread, but wanted to be sure to post here that Marathon Weekend 2008 was one of the best of my life. We spent so much time before, during and after the races with WISH friends, and every moment is a treasured memory.

I also put this in my separate thread, but I wanted to thank everyone for making Jenn feel so comfortable and needed and appreciated. She has been hearing for 3 years about our WISH teammates/friends, and while she appreciated the support you have all provided to me and Howard in that time, I don't think she had any idea of how much LOVE and INFINITE SUPPORT there is in this group. She is so excited about doing the 2009 half and scream-teaming for the 2009 Full. I am hoping she'll post here throughout the year and avail herself of the generous support and advice everyone "dumps" here.

Everywhere we went this week, people told us how kind and supportive the WISH scream team and race participants were. The reputation that this team has established and perpetuates encourages so many others. I am so proud to be a part of this team (even if it means wearing neon green that I wouldn't otherwise be caught dead in! :lmao: ).

Seriously though, you guys are absolutely the BEST!!! :grouphug: I cannot wait to share the year with all our new WISH team members.

Just finished week 5 of 15 half training. I had to run 6 miles today and I've only run three 10Ks prior.

I had no motivation. None.

Add to the fact my fear level has increased even more lately about running out alone and I really had to FORCE myself to go out.

I went to the mall and ran around the sidewalks out around there, seemed like a good amount of traffic out and that made me feel a little more secure. Anyway...

I ran my fastest 6 miles to date - 10:40 was my average pace!!! :woohoo:

Course, DH has several coworkers that are doing this same half and they all are super speedy and poking at each other about who is gonna beat who. I'm kinda in the dumps about it really. I'm gonna feel like the short chubby mommy coming in at the rear. It is kinda taking away my excitement about my first half. Although, I must say reading all these reposts and seeing all these pics is inspiring. I'm definitely gonna run Disney next year! :thumbsup2

SHAN!!! don't you DARE be down on yourself!!! A 10:40 pace is something I will NEVER achieve, my friend...waaaaay too speedy for me! STOP comparing yourself to others and just look how far YOU have come! Way to go!!! :woohoo:

Do you carry your cell phone with you? Do your family/friends know your route? When to expect you to return? Do you call DH before and after?

Keep up the GREAT work, Shan!!

Shan: You should never be down on yourself, especially with that pace! Just remember why you are running, is it really to compete with others or is it for your own personal goals? My MILs neighbor is a big 5Ker and he is always poking at me when I am around, how fast do I run, what is my best 5K time, what is my goal for my next race, it is really very annoying. The one race he was going to be in with me, I had a VERY hard time not running so fast I was going to hurt myself. I did, however, run just fast enough to make him uncomfortable and it was better than a PR ever felt. Watching him suck wind at the end of the race while I wandered off to collect my water and fruit was reward enough. Always remember that the only thing you should be competing against is that little voice inside you. No one else should make you do this besides yourself and no one should EVER make you feel inferior. You are out there when so many others are not and that, in itself, is an achievement. You are faster than a lot of us out here and you have NOTHING to be ashamed of. :flower3:

Shan,

I can't add anything to what the others say, except DITTO! You're running, you're making your goals, you're sticking to your plans even when you (think you) have no motivation. You're the kind of person I look to in my training--in fact, I look ahead to you, as there's no way I'm at a 10:40 pace!!! :rotfl:

I hope you know you deserve all the praise & pats on the backs you're getting, and that you also give yourself some well-earned credit!

Allyson Yes and don't feel bad I had no idea what that meant for forever but I would never ask, finally DH told me.
Shan YOU ARE DOING AWESOME!!!!! :cheer2: I mean it and I agree with what everyone else said don't worry about all those people. If you want to go faster for YOU then you should do it. If it is any encouragement, we ran Disney 1/2 last year at 10.5 pace, then Gasparilla 2 months later at 9 and then I did MINNIE 15 k at 8:58. I know exactly how you feel believe me I do but after putting a few races under my belt I figured out that the only competition was between me and myself. I have never been athletic, more the ballet, drill team girl. So I was constantly amazed at every run we had the longer the better the faster and even the bad ones. After RFTT last year when DH said we are doing Disney 1/2 in 3 months I literally cried and said there is NO WAY I can run 13 miles and we did. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND BE VERRRRRRY PROUD OF WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED. WISH BELIEVES IN YOU.

I swear you guys are the best. This is the only place I can come for support. My Mom doesn't even want me running - she feels it is too unsafe, which unfortunately just fuels my fears that I already have. I have nobody except DH that even understands running. When I cross that finish line at my first half in March there will be no cheers from anyone except for DH who will have probably been waiting over thirty minutes for me at that point.

DH's running friends are hardcore. And even he can literally run only once or twice a week and kick it when he does run. Plus he has screwed up feet! I have logged in double his miles since we got a Garmin and he runs circles around me. All his coworkers are running this half and it is all about who beats who. I feel like the poor soul who everyone will wonder makes it. I just don't like that, it just seems like the Disney races have a much more supportive environment. I wish I would have made the Disney half my first instead of this one. Doubt creeps in...

I know I've come a long way, I just started running last April. I really need to just worry about myself.

I do take off my jewelry, carry my cell, key, personal armband alarm, runner's mace and ID on my shoe. (And that is not taking into account I have my ipod and water!) Really I feel like Inspector Gadget out there, I just need propellers on my back for when I get tired to complete the look. I even just ordered those Airdrives headphones where you can hear outside noise. I also text DH before and after and tell him my route. Still... I am a big wimp!

I totally understand, it's very frustrating. DH trained for disney 1/2 by himself this year since I was out with my back. I use the term "training" loosely, he never ran more than twice a week if that and didn't even do all his long runs and still ran it at 9.5 pace -- WHAT IS UP WITH THAT :confused3

And I can understand wishing you had made Disney the first one, we did Gasparilla in Tampa 6 weeks after Disney and I remember when we got there looking around at all the "serious runners" and they were - no joke! I started freaking out, I looked at Bobby and said, "WE ARE NOT AT DISNEY ANYMORE!";)

But there was still a large mix of ages and abilities and it was very humbling when our course merged back with the full and we were at mile 7 and we were being passed by the guys from Nigeria who were at mile 16!!!:scared1:

Just know that we are all here for you and I truly hope :wizard: that you will find a way to get rid of all those scary voices in your head and just enjoy your huge accomplishment. I swear on my life if my back was better I would come up there and run with you!!! :)

So true! My first race was RFTT and I came in about middle of the pack and felt pretty pleased about it all. Later that month I ran my local Thanksgiving 10K and I made my goal - 49 seconds faster than my RFTT pace and I was like in the back of the pack. It was definitely an eye opener.

Shan- Step back for a second and look at what you just wrote--

You ran 6 miles! And 10:40 is speedy (especially for a boring, lonely training run!)

I remember you posting way back when- what would that girl who was worrying about the Race for the Taste have thought about you doing 6 miles for just a training run?!

Don't worry about your half. There will be people cheering for you! Most of the spectators and fellow runners will cheer, and they really mean it. And don't forget the virtual cheering coming from your WISH pals!!

As for your DH's co-workers, how many of their spouses run? They probably admire you more than you know. And, don't listen to their trash talk- I'm betting someone's going to beat them all, right?!

As for your mom fueling your fears... my mom was always heckling me when I started training. After worrying about my knees and safety and all that, one day in October she decided to come with me on her bike for a LR. I bet we ended up going on 10 runs or so together. She decided in November that she wanted to come watch the Goofy, and now she wants to sign up for the half!!!

You're good, girl!

I also have to give my encoragement to you Shan - don't get down on yourself. You have done an awsome job since you started running (I just started running in June so I am feeling some of the same things as you) but WOW your FASTEST 6 miles and at a 10:40 pace that is something to be proud of. You just go out there and do that half marathon for yourself. When you cross that finish line I am sure you will have the BIGGEST smile on your face knowing that you accomplished something you thought you couldn't (that is how I felt after finishing the TOT 13k)

As far as your fears of running outside - I am somewhat the same way so I had to get a treadmill because I refuse to run when it isn't light outside (and I prefer to get out in the morning and not the night) but I know that isn't an option for everyone. You seem to have the bases pretty much covered for safety purposes. I make sure I say "hi" to each person I pass and look them in the face (not sure if that helps but at least I am aware of my surroundings)

Keep up the GREAT work!!!

Hi! I just wanted to say how much reading this board is already helping me.

I went out on Monday and had a lousy run. Wanted to run Wed., but ended up spending 3 hours in the ER and 1.5 hours at the dentist w/ DS (long story, but he's just fine now), and I was so drained that I couldn't possibly run. Planned to run today but have had a cold the past few days too, didn't want another bad run, and just lacked motivation.

Anyway, between reading this thread this morning and my DH encouraging me to get out and enjoy the nice weather, I went. And I had my best run YET! OK, so I'm soooo slow, but I was thrilled that I did 5k in 44 minutes. It may not be great, but when I consider that 19 days ago I couldn't run 1 mile without needing oxygen, lol, I'm so happy! And, I don't even feel sore or completely exhausted.

DH and I signed up for the Caesar Rodney in DE on March (me - 5k, DH - the 13.1). I've been so scared that I wouldn't even finish a 5k that soon, and now I know that not only can I finish, I just beat the time the Disney requires everyone to finish the family 5k in '09!

So thank you to everyone who has posted their stories! You are just such as awesome group!

Lou & Cari ~ I ran in the Caesar Rodney Half in 2006. To date it is my best (PR) Half including three Disney Halfs. My PR time for the Caesar Rodney is 1:59:33. It is a tough race with a considerably long hill at about mile 6. As Cam said, it is almost in our front yard. The year I ran it, it rained tons and tons up to the minutes prior to the start, then it stopped almost as if an answer to a prayer. The weather was cold, but after you begin to run, it is very welcomed.

I will be passing on this years Caesar Rodney Half Marathon due to my class schedule and commitments. Good Luck to you and your families/friends in the race!

My crazy life!
Hi WISH friends-- just an update. I haven't been able to post for a bit. Boy have things changed in my world! I got a call very late Sunday night from the Singapore American School that the school now has openings for all three of my boys! I really didn't sleep much that night and I was unable to talk to DH! (He's there now but didn't have a mobile phone yet and wasn't available via ichat)

The next morning we talked and made a few calls and short story long: we're moving to Singapore next week! The movers showed up on my step Tuesday morning and will finish packing Thursday and loading Friday. DH returns Friday and we all fly out Tuesday!

As you can guess I'm crazy woman now trying to change appointments and cancel gym memberships and get our shots and faxing to Singapore and....on and on and on.....

I'm trying to DIS at night to unwind and catch up.

Congrats to everyone who finished, not only finished but started! You're all an inspiration and an awesome group. I really wish I could have been there this year and now I'm missing the Minnie, too.

1/18/08 update: DH got home today and we are spending the weekend with family and friends. Our stuff is gone (movers took most today :scared1: ) I'm not training, obviously, but I hope to get back in my good grove in Singapore. I'll check in from there. Thanks for all the well wishes  I hope you know they are all returned right back at ya, especially all you 1/2 and full marathon finishers from this week!:thumbsup2 :dance3: The reports have me :headache: :guilty: :yay: :woohoo:  Love it!!

You guys are gonna love this! (and yes, I am being sarcastic)

:rolleyes1

Kristi -- I was also in your group, because I got a medal from UPS, too! Just to add insult to injury, only one came for me. Apparently dh finished fast enough they were sure he got his (he was about half an hour faster than I was)...I will say that if I didn't have mine, I would have been thrilled today. I think they know they had a real issue two years in a row, and I'd like to think that won't happen next year...

So this is just an update/end of lurking. I am going to be doing the Minnie Marathon for the first time this years, plus I am planning on making Honolulu my first marathon at the end of 08. We shall see what the year brings. I really enjoyed the half this year, even if I still hurt after 8 hours at work. I have already gotten back on the training horse and did 2.22miles in 30 on Tuesday. My plan is just to work back up to where i could run 4 and walk 1, then try to get faster. Maybe beat Lynne for once:rolleyes1. I was great to see all our old friends this past weekend and make new ones.
Cam and Howard- it was great getting to know Jen and I really do plan on keeping in touch with her.
Mel and Jeff-it was great running with you and seeing the WT. When did she get so big? Maybe I will see if I can swing being on the Mainland for Marathon Weekend next year. I cannot make promises though.
To all that are just joining us and getting right on with your training Welcome. Sorry for the long post,
Erin

Lou - if you're wearing your WISH shirt I'll be sure to say hi! I'd love to be wearing one, but I'm not sure how you about getting them. :confused3 My DH will be running the half as well, so our kids and I will be staying to cheer on the half runners.

Cam, thanks for the encouragement!

Howard, I think one of the reasons DH signed up is because of the hills (ugh!). He is planning on doing a half Ironman up in the Poconos this year, and since we live in NJ, well, there just aren't too many hills to get experience on.Welcome Cari! Congrats on your progress indeed. My father lives in Delaware, and I saw that Lou was running this race. I thought it might be a good reason to come down for a visit.

Vicki- Wow, what a change. Moving to Singapore! I WISH you the best of luck on your move. Hope all goes well!

Gee, forgive me if I choose to pass on this one... without the WISH shirts however would we find each other? :lmao:

I still think the Krispy Kreme Challenge next weekend is more my speed. :rotfl2:

Jackie

Jackie: is anyone from WISH doing the KK challenge? It might be worth going down to watch. I checked out the requirements and I could get the running/walking done within regulation, but that leaves me absolutely no time to eat! I can't imagine eating a dozen at one sitting....yeeecccch!

Good morning all!! Yes, I checked and it is still morning. I did my first run today after the half while DS was at swim lessons. I ran 3 miles (I know whoopee!!) and it felt good so I decided to stop at 3 and ski some this afternoon. It is going to be beautiful today in the 30s but tomorrow will be frigid in the single digits for a high so today is my ski day, play with my kids day, and relaxing weekend day!! Tomorrow will be laundry.......:crazy2: Still wish I was in WDW of course.......

Kristi: SilverSteve PM'd me about signing up for the Beach to Beacon in Portland on August 2. Apparently registration opens up 3/15 and fills in a couple of hours. It is a 10K if you are interested......:rolleyes1

Bill- Why thank you, my eclair training is going quite well. Much better than my running as a matter of fact.;)

I had this treat on marathon day in honor of WISHers at home and followed it with a beer. I know, I know, I'm a true friend. If you want to kill some time and see some other Marathon pics, check out my blog. (I had to start a blog because I didn't know how to e-mail the pictures to my friends- am I sophisticated, or what?)

I decided to sign up for the Krispy Kreme challenge! I went to the actual website and they allow you to sign up as a "casual" runner which means you run the course, but do not have to eat the entire dozen donuts. If you plan to eat the full dozen you must sign up as a "challenge" runner. For $15, a t-shirt and free donuts, it seemed too much of a riot to pass up. I even was able to sign up under the WISH team since they requested your team name.

Any other brave souls out there?

Some of our Galloway group are doing it... I'm still on the fence. DD's taking the SAT next Sat, so the calendar's free. 4 miles does sound kinda easy now! It'll probably be Tuesday before I can decide and register, but I'll let you know.

(DH doesn't want me to do it, but that's cause he works for Dunkin Donuts!)

Went to the gym for the first time since the Mickey. Did 4 miles on elipical.

Good luck to your daughter with her SATs. She is a real sweetie. I think she is the one who took photos with my camera because my own daughter and son were too embarassed to come forward.
Too funny about hubby working for the competition. I think you should do it anyway....it sounds like quite an experience. Just be sure to wear long pants.....if someone misses the bucket you don't want to fall in any partially digested KKs. :scared:

Jen in GA - I loved reading your blog. It has inspired me to write my own blog about my journey to the 2009 marathon. The first post is a LONG one - not sure if I am ready to post it yet though. I have my "editors" looking at it - LOL :lmao:

I meant to get at least 2.5 miles in today (might still end up getting on the TM if I get my lazy butt up off this computer) but I didn't want to run outside since it was about 80 something out there today. They ran the Susan G Koman 5k race for the cure today in West Palm Beach but I didn't participate. I knew it would be a mad house down there and I knew I would want to sleep in - yeah slept till just after 7 - really sleeping in!!

The weather is supposed to be really nice tomorrow - start out at 61 and only get up to around 69 so I definately wanted to save my LR (3 miles right now) for tomorrow and the nice temps. We don't get it that often!!

So next Thursday I will be on my way to Disney :woohoo: because my neice has a gymnastics comp at WWoS on Friday morning (good thing she is homeschooled and has no problem making the comp. without having to take off school because alot of girls on her team aren't going because they just can't get out of school. And that would have meant no reason for a trip for me and my DH. ;) ) As soon as I asked DH if he wanted to go his answer was of course YES - I got him hooked :thumbsup2 (this is an almost 35 year old man who got as excited as a 5 year old when he saw Stitch on TV during the Christmas parade - he kept saying - there's Stitch, there's Stitch!! )

This trip should be interesting since its going to be me, DH, my DSis, DBiL and DNeice all staying together in a cabin at Ft Wilderness. Its only 3 nights but I hope we survive  With a little :wizard: we will. It will be my sister's family's first trip back to WDW since 2004 when my neice was only 7. So I am sure it will be full of FUN. I am hoping to at least get one run in when there but WDWTO (WDW taking over) might happen!!

After learning my lesson the hard way - that one cannot half-@$$ their way through a half marathon - I am taking control!

I printed out my half marathon training plan

For now I am going to train as though I am doing the More Magazine Marathon in NYC in April (you can have a 2 person team, each does a Half)

I just bought a pair of my running shoes on eBay since they are no longer made

Tomorrow is a new day, and serious training begins!

I have a list of tentative races, incl: Broad Street Run, Philly Distance Classic and a few others

Just bought tickets for "Spirit of the Marathon" for Thursday night

Ok, I am off to fill out my training log accordingly while Zack is in bed & Chad is out playing (and hopefully winning at) poker.

You GO KRISTI :cool1:

You are well on your way. I'm hoping to be scream teaming for you at 1/2 next year and getting some water from you when we run the full next year.

Now I don't know if we are going to make it to the movie :scared: I have been waiting for that movie since I posted about it. DS's science fair project won award at school and went to county at our local fair. Yeah for DS but now we might have to be there Thursday. WHY that night :sad2: We'll see.

Training report:

went to gym this morning and did body pump and core class, still no running for me. back is still tender, wanted to get on that treadmill SOOOOOOOOOOO bad but I know in the long run it's better if I wait, just a little longer :headache: I want to try to hold out one more week!!!!!

Did my first post-marathon run today--did 3 SLOW miles, but did them w/o any issues. Also got 25 min on the elliptical this week and some weights. Well, it looks like we're gonna skip the LR marathon relay in March. Just too much $$$--and I need to save it for our Goofy Registration. But I'm probably gonna be an expo and finish line volunteer. I want to be a medal giver-outer. I know how much it means to get one, so it will mean just that much more to give them out!

Angie--take it easy!!!!!!! We want you in prime shape this year. You're gonna bust out an awesome time at the Minnie (maybe there will be someone else you can zoom past while they make a potty stop). And Scott and I would love to run with you and Bobby in January next year!

Marcia and I finished the half in 2:31, and the full in 5:33, achieving the Goofy!

Here's a few tips for those who got blisters, and those who were sore afterwards.

Before putting on your socks in the morning, lube your feet with Bodyglide. Then, on top of the Bodyglide, slather on some Vaseline. It really works preventing blisters.

For those who are sore, start doing ice baths after your long training runs. Fill the tub up to your waist with cold water, then slowly add in ice to what you can tolerate. Sit there for 10 to 15 minutes, then shower.

We took two Alleve pain relief post race.

We ice bathed after the half marathon when we got back to the room. Then that night before going to bed, we ice bathed once again.

Following the marathon we took two Alleve pain relief, and we again ice bathed.

By 2 pm we were up and walking about EPCOT and Pleasure Island. No soreness the following day, and the rest of the week.

Hope this helps your future training. See you all at the Disneyland Half in August, 2008.

Now, somebody tell me where we can get a W.I.S.H. shirt to race in.

We were bummed to find out the W.I.S.H.ers had a meet at Pop Century. We missed it even though were staying there!
