We're at less than 20 days out for our departure to our long anticipated WDW trip... saw last night on the weather channel that There's Gustav, Hannah, and then 2 more tropical depressions shortly thereafter! I don't believe Gustav and Hannah will be a threat to our vaca - I'm sure they'll be over by then. But now I'm worried about the other 2 and whether they'll be come hurricanes and put a huge damper on our vacation.
Keep in tune to the weather channel I guess ---- most of the posters on this thread I'm sure will have an interest like me.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but I just stumbled on this very helpful website for tracking hurricanes and Tropical storms:

http://www.ibiseye.com/

Looks like there's several tropical depressions in the pipe. I can tell you my eyes will be glued when it gets closer to Sept 20th, and I'm starting to regret turning down vacation insurance! :scared:

We'll be arriving on the 12th ... and also staying at the Poly! Are you as excited as I am? This will be my 2 year old granddaughters first trip; the 6 year olds THIRD; and we've lost track of our trips-probably around 15. No matter - 1st or 100th; WDW is always a special place to visit. We'll be flying in from Houston so we're keeping our fingers "double crossed" on the hurricanes!!!

We stayed at the Poly last Sept. It was a trip to see my FIL (he met us there) he wanted to see his grandchildren have fun!!! Upon his arrival, we were shocked, he have aged 50 yrs since we saw him a year ago. His health was not the best, but he never let on to us how bad he was... Long story short, it was not the fun trip we expected, as he was really unable to do anything with the kids at all, and left the trip early...he passed away 2 weeks after his trip....We were happy to see him and give him his last wish to see our children... this year my parents and sister and her kids are coming, I hope we can make memories for them on this trip to our happy place...
My youngest son is 2 and loved it last year!!!
i am excited, but getting nervous too!!!

I am! I'm supposed to leave the morning of 9.12 and that one Ike and Josephine are freaking me out. Not to mention my eldest daughter's name is Josephine, Josie for short! I'm not sure if that is a bad omen or good one. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though.:rolleyes1

I called today to cancel my trip. I think I MIGHT be able to swing going in December instead... so instead of canceling completely, the sweet CM rescheduled me and I was able to keep my 40% off PIN rate!!! Hopefully I can swing it then, plus the weather should be MUCH better in December. I am more excited now than I was for the September dates, so I hope we can really go!!! I am sure I won't be able to get all of my wonderful ADRs though, but I'm making my plan tonight so I can call tomorrow and at least try.

YOU BET I'M WORRIED ... not just about storms in Orlando area but we'll need to "get out" of Texas to GET to Orlando! We leave in 9 days (FINALLY in the single digits!) and we're looking at IKE possibly giving us some problems with our departure from Houston. I just wanna get there! Really don't care if it's raining at the Magic Kingdom ... it's still "magic" rain or shine!

Well looks like there isn't a lot of concern for Josephine. But it looks like around Wed or so of next year Ike will be of a concern. I just want to get out of here by 9.12!!! A friend of mine was at Disney during a hurricane before and he said they had a blast. Of course the parks were closed but there were a lot of activities and plenty of food for the people staying in the hotel. All I want to do is get there!!! Keeping the fingers crossed!

ACK! GO AWAY STORMS!!!

So, I have talked dh into leaving as soon as he gets out of school next Friday (12th) and heading on down. We booked a room one mile from the entrance so that we can go on down, get a little sleep and then get up early to check in at Riverside! 8 more days! I am so excited but still so much left to do. :woohoo:

I guess if I do have to ride out a huricane I will be glad it is at Disney BUT if my darn halloween party night gets rained out again like last year I will cry!!! REALLY! Last year it was a downpour the WHOLE night..just horrible. I do not want that to happen again! :scared1:

Two more days! Woo hoo! I don't care about the hurricanes anymore, I just can't wait to go. We are heading to Louisville Saturday afternoon/evening, spending the night there, and flying out EARLY Sunday morning. We should be in WDW by noon. I'm so stoked, and we're meeting my bff down there.

I just hope and pray Ike fizzles out and everyone all over the world is spared.

Great that you can get out and well, there are worse places to be stuck if you cant get back home! I really do think we will all be fine. Rain we can handle ... the parks are a lot less crowded if it's raining! According to the projected path as of now, you should be fine. Not sure how long you'll be on the road but my guess is by Sunday/Monday the weather in the Magic Kingdom should be fine. OUR concern will be getting out of Texas. Our flight leaves from Houston on 9/12 at 1:30 PM ... about the time that "sucker" is scheduled to hit anywhere between the Texas coast and Florida Panhandle!
Where are you staying? We'll be at the Poly. We've planned a light day for Saturday just in case our arrival is delayed! Keeping our fingers crossed and continuing to pack and "mark things off the TO DO LIST"!

Thanks Kroy! WE made it through. The eye of the storm passed over us, it got pretty bad but no real damage to our house. Power went out MOnday morning and i got a call last night that it was finally back on. We stayed at home during the storm and left after 5 days of no ac, MRE's and the sewage system about to start backing up. WE high-tailed it to my sisters in mississippi. Ugh I need this vacation SOOOOO bad, and the way it's looking...IKE is coming this way too! Well i already have plans to go home for a few days and if ike is headed this way...im packing everything (including disney stuff) and coming back to Ms. because there is NO telling when i would be allowed back into my parish ( county) and i DO NOT want to be stuck without our clothes ETC. This is going to be the worse packing for a trip i have ever done!!!Ok i went on too much.. LETS SEE THAT TICKER!!!

We just got home last night.... we were terrified that the weather would be awful, but it was AWESOME!!! No rain whatsoever, no hurricanes... was a bit windy the day we arrived, and on the day we left.... but no problems the entire time we were there

We are staying at CBR. mY wife 2 kids. I wish you all the best getting out of Texas.

THANKS! Stayed at the CBR when DD's were teenagers and really enjoyed it there. Tracking Ike ... looks iffy on getting out but as of now, since it slowed down, I think we're okay. Our big problem now will be if DH will be able to go with us! He's a county official and our county's rep. on the Houston/Galveston Area Hurricane Prepardness Committee ... which means, if Ike is tracking to our area he'll HAVE to be here! Lots of concern tonight!

:cool1: For a while there it looked like Ike was going to keep us at home but my sweet talking son-in-law managed to book us a flight from Houston to Tampa late this afternoon. Bush will be shutting down at 2 PM Friday and our flight was originally scheduled for 1:30!!!!!!!!! We leave at 7:45 am so we SHOULD be okay. Going to stay in Houston tonight so we'll be close to the airport and not have to fight traffic tomorrow morning. Evacuation of Galveston/coastal communities is really crowding the roads. Don't care if it takes us all night to make this normally 1 hour trip we're gonna do it! Will rent a car in Tampa to get to Orlando and as soon as we check into the Poly will have a STIFF drink!!!!!! What a stressful day!!! DH will have to come out Monday (he's with Emergency Management) but he'll still have a week to relax from this "taxing" few days. BOY ... do we NEED this vacation!!!:cool1:

Wow 13 days at POR? That's awesome. We're only going for 7 days at BC (we can't take the kids out of school for more than 5 days for this trip).

You're the DH and you are the one who loves to go? That's so awesome! :thumbsup2 My DH loves it, but I don't think anywhere near as much as I do. He's heard me discuss all this bounceback stuff and he's like "um no, we're not going in 2008 when we've gone in '06, '07 and now '08". I might be able to twist his arm!

I just saw Jon & Kate plus 8 on TLC and they went to Walt Disney World! It really got me wanting to be there RIGHT now. Part of me can't wait to go, then part of me knows how sad I'll be when it's over. That's crazy talk isn't it?

So here we are at CBR... When we got here last night and my wife walked into the bathroom she screamed! l ran in to see what was wrong and in the tub I see a 1 & 1/2 inch cockroach. It turns out that there was a small hole in the wall next to the tub where they were coaming in (building #31 / room #3110). this morning a very nice employee (manager) at the custom house (Nick) moved us to a beautiful room on the beach in building #25. I won't hold it against them. This is florida after all, and oh yeah they comped the first night and upgraded us to water view.

We just took advantage of the free dining bounceback and booked a pirate theme room for next year. The pirate room us awesome!

IT'S OVER!!!!
I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that a week ago, I was sporting shorts, tanktops and sandals, sweating in the 89 degree weather and LOVING IT!!!!... and today in NewEngland, it's 58 degrees!! Sweaters, jeans and socks just arent' my thing... especially now that I have this fabulous tan to show off now!!! :headache:

We had a GREAT time!! We weren't very impressed with the breakfast fare at POP though -- dinners were ok, but breakfast, not so good. We ended up driving to Coronado for breakfast on days where we didn't have breakfast ressies. Also - we were disappointed in Chef Mickey's for dinner this time as well. Last time we were there the food was much better. Loved LibTreeTavern at MK, we'll do that one again I'm sure.

DD4 whimped out of BBB the mornign of her appt at the Castle -- BUMMER!! I think I was more disappointed than she was. But I look at it as a saving$...

DS8 is addicted to RNRC, and DD4 was addicted to Barnstormer at MK. DH and DS8 were awarded YOMDs Fast Pass lanyards at AK -- but never got to use them at all b/c the lines were less than 10 mins each. So we bought a Mickey Shawdow box, and displayed the YOMD Fast Pass with our Happy Anniversary button and a few other trinkets.

I'm already having withdrawals... Next trip probably won't be for another 2 years... Maybe we'll try the cruise then.

Well, here's hoping everyone had equally enjoyable vacations -- looking forward to reading about them on the DISboards --- god knows I'll need a fix from time to time!!

We just got back last Wednesday as well and as I speak, I'm a bit melancholy as I put the shorts and sleeveless shirts away and drag out the long sleeves and long pants for everyone :sad1:

We had an awesome time as well...didn't run into or win any dreams but we made a few of our own...dd6 1/2 got to talk to Crush in Turtle Talk the night before we went home, she got to meet Cinderella, Jasmine and her favorite Ariel! And youngest dd 3 got to meet Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale and Stitch. We loved most of the food (the only thing we weren't crazy about was the 1900 Park Fair Dinner) the best thing about thing about it was Cinderella - the food was just okay and if we didn't go back, that would be fine with me. Our favorite meal - hands down - was Ohana. As usual, it did not disappoint and the girls had a great time participating in some of the games.

Dh had a great time but he's had his fill so the soonest we'll get back is probably 2 years as well. :confused3

Did you go to Akershus for a meal? The princesses are there too -- and my DD (HUGE Ariel fan as well) always wanted to meet "Ariel in her dress" -- well, luck would have it, the last princess to come out was Ariel in her green dress. My daughter was mesmerized. Ariel really played it up too -- my son didn't have a word to say -- so Ariel asked him, "Oh, Ursula took your voice too? We have to watch out for Ursula, she can be really nasty." I laughed!! DS got a kick out of it too.
Here's hoping for a QUICK 2009! Let's pixie dust ourselves into 2010!!!:wizard:

no we didn't do Akershus because I checked the menu and it didn't look like there was anything on there that my oldest dd or my dh would eat. (they're extremely picky). Do they just serve eggs and cinnamon rolls or do they have pancakes, french toast or waffles as well?
We did decide though, that the next time we go back will be for the Food and Wine Festival. My mom will be coming with us then and she would love that. And next time we go, we're definately checking out Wolfgang Puck Express. I wanted to slap my dh upside the head this trip. When I started doing the ADR's back in April - after I booked the package, I asked him repeatedly which restaurants he wanted to go to...he said he didn't care. So the night we went to Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney, we were wandering around and I stopped in the restroom with younger dd which happened to be right next to WPE, when I came out, he says to me "why didn't you book WPE?" I looked at him dumbfounded for a minute and then said to him "I asked you where you wanted to go!".

BAck not quite a week yet. :sad1: We stayed at POP for a week and only had breakfast the first day there, had a TS at BOMA and at Crystal Palace, 2 times we went to Riverside (Dixie) and got their breakfast for a CS and then 2 times to Poly at Capt. Cooks using a CS for the Tonga Toast boy is that good. Was handy have a rental car cause we drove everywhere except to HOOP DEE DOO. Because of the economy we decided not to book the bounce back for next year we will wait till April and see how thing are then.

When we were there, I didn't even think to ask about that 'bounceback' promotion everyone talks about. Does it have to be offered to you? or can you ask about it at during your stay? what are the savings?

Breakfast was family style all you care to eat -- typical breakfast fare. And they had a buffet with muffins, pastries, fruit etc. The coffee was HORRIBLE.

WPE -- we did that one night. Food was great. Service was great. Dessert -- delectable!!! my mouths watering just thinking about the dessert!!!..... The Bill (thank God for free dining!!!!!) was close to $100 for 2kids and 2adults. But I'd do it again -- maybe its cheaper at lunch!

We went in September, it was the first time/trip that I knew to even look for the bounce back and even then it took me a couple of days to actually READ the flyer! In our room it was on the table w/ a couple of other resort info things. It was a colorful flyer w/ Goofy on it, saying it was a great deal any way you dished it or something - free dining when you booked bounce back. Then you had to call from your resort room before check out. Luckily I didn't wait until check out morning as it was a bit of a wait when I called.

Missed that one!! Was free dining the only perk? or did you get a break on the tickets or hotel? and do you have to book the same hotel?
