View Full Version : Interest thread - Completed Character Page Swap **Mostly final list on Page 4**

We've had a request for a completed page swap so I am posting this as an interest thread. Here's the proposal.
This would be a completed page swap. Each swapper would create 5 identical pages including a title, photo mat, journaling box and a decorative element in their selected theme.
We were thinking of doing two different groups broken down by size - 12 x 12 and 6 x 6 and small groups of 5 to keep things manageable.
BAMB suggested doing something like Partner 2-page layouts - like Mickey and Minnie, Donald and Daisy, Chip & Dale, etc.
Here's my best breakdown so far. PLEASE make suggestions!
Group 1 - 2 page 12x12
1 - Pooh & Piglet
2 - Tigger & Eeyore?
(I need more ideas - I'm not really a Pooh person beyond Pooh)
3 -
4 -
5 - swappers choice
Group 2 - 2 page 12x12
1 - Mickey and Minnie
2 - Donald and Daisy
3 - Goofy and Pluto??
4 - Chip and Dale
5 - ???
Group 3 - 2 page 12x12
1 - Snow White and Prince Charming
2 - Ariel and Prince Eric
3 - Aurora and Prince Philip
4 - Cinderella and Prince Charming
5 - Belle and Beast
Group 4 - 2 page 6x6
1 - Pooh & Piglet
2 - Tigger & Eeyore?
(I need more ideas - I'm not really a Pooh person beyond Pooh)
3 -
4 -
5 - swappers choice
Group 5 - 2 page 6x6
1 - Mickey and Minnie
2 - Donald and Daisy
3 - Goofy and Pluto??
4 - Chip and Dale
5 - ???
Group 6 - 2 page 6x6
1 - Snow White and Prince Charming
2 - Ariel and Prince Eric
3 - Aurora and Prince Philip
4 - Cinderella and Prince Charming
5 - Belle and Beast
The smaller pages are good for autograph books and such.
So, what do y'all think? Anyone interested?

love the idea of the princess group. How far from a sign up would the due date be? If a person had plenty of time they could budget this. I also like that the grouping is only 5 instead of 10. it makes it alot more manageable.

I think we were shooting for a Spring sign up/completion. Something like mid-February? Honestly, it's not been decided yet.

For the pooh groups, Kanga and Roo, Rabbit and Christopher Robin are other possibles.
I won't be signing up because I have way too much Disney stuff for pages already  plus cost, but I like the idea of small groups and different sizes:thumbsup2

On the 6 by 6 pages you really don't necessarily have room for a good picture and an autograph with anything else unless you are putting the tag in a pocket- you could probably do a 2 page spread with 1 character.
With the fab 5 characters others you can generally find without much effort would be Lilo and Stich or Buzz and Woody. At least at WDW they are generally found in at least 1 published place in each park.
In the princesses I know the easiest pair to find is Jasmine and Alladin so you might want to list all the choices and let people choose 5 of the 6.
Just my thoughts- With the Pooh characters at 12 by 12 there are very few other characters than the 4 listed that you can meet- maybe combining them with the Playhouse Disney characters for the other spots as a full page spread of Rabbit and Owl would be hard to use.
Just some thoughts.

And don't forget. Just because they are themed with the characters does NOT mean you have to only use them for photos you took at Disney.
I have some photos of my boys reading to each other that would look really cute on a page with Kanga & Roo.
Or you could use them for photos that you took in the Lands that they character's have rides or can be found in.
I like the group of 5 with a 2 page layout. I still have a few more swaps I can sign up for ;)

I like groups of 5 - no larger than 6. of 2 page layouts also. This would be a great way to use up stash. I would rather do groups than page exchange to make postage more economical. I do think there needs to be more than 1 photo mat on a 2 page lay out. There could be several in differnet sizes with at least one that is 4 by 6.
I love the idea.

I like the small groups and the 2 page layouts. In the Pooh group, you could also group the same characters different ways, like Pooh and Piglet and Pooh and Tigger. Or, with the Fab 5, you could have Mickey and Minnie, and Mickey and Goofy, or Mickey and Donald. I know I have pictures of my son with the main characters multiple times. I know I'd use pages with characters that you don't find in the parks (Owl, Rabbit, Kanga, etc.) for other things as well.
Or, you could have a group for specific park characters. Like an Animal Kingdom one with Baloo and King Louie, Safari Mickey and Minnie, etc.

When I do layouts for people, I try to have 4 mats 4X6 and 1 journal box. There is room on the page for several small embellies, and 1 or 2 large ones, like a paper piecing or a tag. I've started to make the journal boxes with the writing box removable. So any boo-boos and the box can be replaced. Just my ideas. It would be fun to have some pages pre-finished. Smaller groups are great. Love the partners ideas...Mickey goes with Pluto at my house (and on the cricut cart...hehehe)
I wanna sign up nooowwwwwwww.....

i forgot to put my 2 cents in on the pooh group -- why don't we just mix it up -- like
round 1 - pooh
round 2 - pooh/tigger
round 3 - piglet/eeyore
round 4 - eeyore/tigger
round 5 - piglet
certaintly we all have a ton of pics from crystal palace and pooh characters! also like another poster mentioned these pages don't have to be of just disney photos they can be of costumes, reading a book, toys -- etc... just my thoughts

Here are the type of pages we made for a Stampin'Up Club. It got to be such a hassel coming up with generic pages that everyone could use, I was really glad to not sign up again. The single pages with elements were my way of making a complete page that could be versatile for everyone. The double sided ones were so you could fill an album without being bulky. Hated to waste the back side of the paper. The pirate one took FOREVER to make as I colored that in by hand and then went over it with the water marker. But that is the kind I am invisioning making for this swap.

Your list looks fab, BAMB. Thanks for putting it together. I'm having to do some actual work today rather than playing online so I couldn't quite get to it.
Anyway, the breakdowns look good. On the princesses, I think I'll take someone's suggestion and add a Jasmine/Aladdin and the swappers in that group can choose. Do we also want Mulan/Mushu to be an option? DH suggested the princesses and their sidekicks like Cindy and the mice, Snow White and Dwarves, etc. It really is up to y'all because I don't need any Princess pages at the moment - :(
Do we also want groups for other best buds? Suggestions were Woody/Buzz and Lilo/Stitch. There could also be a Mary Poppins/Bert, maybe a Woody/Jessie, Peter Pan/Wendy, Alice/Mad Hatter. Maybe a Misc. character group?
There have been some questions about the completion timeline - how long between sign-ups and due date. I was thinking 2 months. What did y'all think about that? Also, when do y'all want sign-ups? Some would like sooner than later but I don't want to stress anyone in the character swaps who would like to do this one as well.
ETA: How about a multi-character 12x12 page group? Something for those that only have enough pics of all the princesses, fab 5, villians, etc. to fit on one page? Like this:
1. Pooh and Friends
2. Fab 5
3. Princesses
4. Villians
5. ??

Honestly, that group is more my speed as well. I'm like you - no kids so not too many character pics outside of my faves - Stitch, Mary Poppins and Ariel. They are literally the only ones I'll stand in line to meet (except for Mickey of course - who could miss meeting the Main Mouse?!)

ETA: depending how big you want this either scale back or add more!
TPCShauna
01-10-2008, 05:15 PM
No toe stepping here! I appreciate you putting it all together.
Just a couple of things. I know I would use an Alice/Mad Hatter and Peter Pan/Wendy more than Emile/Remy (I know they are cute but they still freak me out) or Pinocchio/Geppeto. Also, we can leave Mary Poppins/Bert off as I'm sure I'm the only person who obsessively seeks photos of them. :rotfl:
The Good vs. Bad sounds good as well. What list are you referring to?
I'm good for multiple groups. My WDW Event Swap had about a gazillion (not as many as yours O Swap Goddess :teeth:) so I've got my big swap technique down.
Do you want to tack in a 12x12 group for the Group Pages? Like this one - 1. Pooh and Friends
2. Fab 5
3. Princesses
4. Villians
5. ??
BTW - how's the calendar looking for timing?

the calendar looks great for maybe an early Feb sign up.
the group you just mentioned could be swappers choice or as you have it listed, not sure who the 5th slot could be, brain freeze.
let me see if I can find my good vs evil swap notes. Be back soon!
and add who(m???) ever you would like in group 4, I was just rambling. And no you are not the only one obsessed with Mary and Bert, oh the stories I could tell!

How about sign-ups on February 6 with a due date on March 31. That's almost 2 full months. We can back the due date to March 21 if y'all think that's too long.
I'm just concerned that we might need a bit more time because there is quite a bit more work involved with this.
Thoughts?

I am showing some interest in this one. I like the 6x6 size or maybe we could go 8x8. My plans for this side is an autograph album. The 8x8 would give a little bit more room for the elements along with the pic and autograph without making it to cramped on the pages.
Other characters I interested in are:
Little Einsteins
Cars characters
Turk
Remy ( I have not meet him yet but when we go I would like to have him
ready).
The later the due date the better for me. With coming off the character swap it would be good to have a little bit of a breather before starting in on this one, so I could get my creative juices going.

Up on the calendar.
Shawn, we typically pick 6x6 since it's easy to cut paper, but I am open to suggestions. We can talk to Shauna more, like she said, we are a democratic board.
Picking DH's and DS11's brains:
Baloo and King Louie, Robin Hood and King John or Sheriff of Nottingham or Friar Tuck, Snow White and Dopey (together a lot in Germany), Anastasia and Drizella, Kenai and Koda, Lightening McQueen and Mater, Timon and Rafiki, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

01-10-2008, 09:20 PM
ohhh i didn't think of lightning and mater -- good suggestion! i also like the 6x6 size -- more econimical!! u can get 4 pages out of 1 12x12 -- just my thoughts!
TPCShauna
01-11-2008, 12:53 AM
I put 6x6 because someone else mentioned that size. Personally, I would never use that size because I can't figure out what you put it in. The smallest album I've seen is 7x7. I like 8x8 as a size but agree that the 6x6 is more economical.
What do y'all think about a kids' character group. This would be Playhouse Disney, Little Einsteins, Power Rangers - all the things that people without kids would never use.
How about Cars in the Best Buds group?
group 4 - 2 page layout Best Buds
1 - Lilo and Stitch
2 - Buzz and Woody
3 - Alice/Mad Hatter
4 - Peter Pan/Wendy
5 - Lightening McQueen/Tow Mater
Also, the Princess groups don't have to be Princess and Prince. DH suggested Princess/Sidekick which would make Snow White/Dopey perfect.
Do we want to add another group for the "lesser-known" characters that BAMB mentioned. This would be Baloo and King Louie, Robin Hood and King John or Sheriff of Nottingham or Friar Tuck, Anastasia and Drizella, Kenai and Koda, Timon and Rafiki, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. These could also go in a swapper's choice but then everyone might end up with princess pages when they wanted rare characters. I'm not sure how to fit Remy and Turk.
Thinking about required elements - for the 6x6 pages, we will be doing a single character. The layout should have at least one mat large enough for a 4x6 photo uncropped, a journaling area, a title and a decorative element per 2-page layout.
For 12x12 pages - I'm thinking 2 mats to fit an uncropped 4x6 on each page, a title, journaling element and one decorative element per page as a base. More mats can be added but this would be the minimum.
So glad y'all are willing to talk this through!

I buy 6 by 6 albums regularly- I use them for baby books for people who don't scrap. I like you idea for the number of elements on a page- really you would need the same number of sheets for the background if you did 8 by 8 as you would for 12 by 12- also if you wanted to make the 6 by 6 into 8 by 8 you could simply mat the pages and maybe add on a little decoration in the corners or a small border.
Rebecca

This is sounding better and better to me.
Also, people can take completed 6 by 6 pages and mount htem onto a 8 X 8 page or other sizes and added mats, doodles, embellishments etc. I have done this before in 6 X 6 swaps. Sometimes 2 6 X6 pages can overlap on a page

OK 6x6 with the option to mount on 8x8 at home is a good idea, never thought of that.
kids group:
1) Handy Manny
2) Little Einstein's could be a specific character?
3) Power Rangers
4) JoJo and Goliath
5) ????
Cars with best buds, yes!
Princess and sidekick is fine with me
Snow and Dopey
Belle and ???
Jasmine and Aladdin or Genie
Cinderella and Perla and/or Susie
Sleeping Beauty and ???
you could do a rare character group too but I wouldn't do swappers choice that way you are guaranteed a rare or non popular character.

I would appreciate having some minimum guidelines, like 4 mats for 4x6 pics, 1 journal box, 1 large element, how many small? ( OK, I'm stressing on the page designs. I always stress about my things...)
Also, will there be certain papers required, like only bazzill, or can we use up our stash? (subliminal message...use up stash....use up stash....use up stash.....):lmao:

Susie, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea!
Thanks
I thought I about it because it was a class at a LSS a couple years back. Very basic stuff but one side had a pocket for a map, etc. I used that set of pages I did for the dividers for each world. I could use about 5 groups of those for different trips and just to highlight trips in a yearly album.
TPCShauna

Susie - I  that idea! I could totally use those pages and I'm sure many of the rest of us could as well.
Debbie - No specific paper. There are way too many of us on the BAN wanting to use our stash to put paper restrictions. Some people will use Bazzill because that is what they always use (like me) and others will use whatever. As always, the most important thing is that everyone do good, quality work - straight cuts, no goopy glue, etc. Swaps have always made me bring my "A" game. I'm definitely not as creative as some of these other ladies but I am a perfectionist so my pieces will always look nice, even if they aren't fancy.
I don't think I want to place a minimum for small embellishments. That would be too restrictive for me and I'm sure for others. I think saying something like one embellishment per page for a 2-page layout is sufficient. Many will go over that minimum because they want to but that is up to them. I know that I don't like super cluttered pages so I would be less inclined to put a bunch of stuff all over my pages. They will look nice but they won't necessarily have something in every spot.

How about a group for activities like
1. Looking for hidden mickeys
2. Pin trading
3. Getting around at Disney - monorail, boats, buses, trains, etc.
4. Gift shop fun

I really like your pin trading page idea. We did the pin trading last time, no pics, but I plan on taking pics this time. :thumbsup2

I love the 6x6 page ideas. They would make the perfect pages for an autograph book for my trip in August.
So when will sign ups be? I'm definitely in on this one. Thanks!!!

I love the idea of the WDW group. I always have a ton of random pictures from each park that I'm never sure what to do with! I could use a million of those pages!

I'm changing the mat size on the 6x6 group to a mat large enough to fit a 3x5 photo. Thanks to AWM for pointing out that the other size won't work.
The sign-ups are scheduled for next Wednesday, Feb. 6. I plan to have everything ready to post around 8:00am PACIFIC time so y'all be ready!
