Hi. It's me again,
Because DH and I are really leaning towards resale, I was wondering if those of you who bought in resale could share with me some of your experiences?

We recently purchased 2 resale contracts and we couldn't be happier. One (BWV) was thru Jaki at atimeshare.com and one (VWL) was thru Lee Reid at reid4florida.com. We had also worked with The Timeshare Store and they were very helpful. Jaki was the best of the bunch and kept us very informed the whole way through the process. Lee was a bit more hands off and after the initial contract stage most contact was with the lawyers and closing agent. Both went smoothly.
We were in the DVC systems and could make reservations approx 6 - 7 weeks after we faxed back the initail contracts. That was the one drawback to resale vs a direct DVC purchase - having to wait to make reservations.
The most important thing to keep in mind - resale prices are negotiable. Some sellers may look for you to reimburse them for dues paid in the current year - again, negotiable. You do pay closing costs, but these will only be about $2-$3 a point. That can be negotiable, too - sometimes if you ask the seller will pay. Even with the closing costs you should be able to realize a significant savings over the $70 - $75 you'd pay for BCV - and maybe you can even come away with some banked points.
Any specific questions? Let me know.
FYI - I recently saw an OKW resale on the dvcrent yahoo group listed for $55 a point, and there is a BWV resale on ebay - who knows what you might get that for. Of course, if you go thru an agent if is much easier.

Just remember that everything is negotiable. I offered what I wanted to pay per point and asked that the seller pay the closing costs on my OKW resale. It was accepted and 4 weeks from the day I made the offer, I was making reservations. Very smooth and very easy.

Bought 2 resales - one through Jaki at atimeshare.com , the other directly from the seller.
Jaki uses a law firm for the closing and I used Timeshare Closing Services to handle the closing for the private sale.
Both were easy and relatively fast. We were on the Disney computers a day or so after closing.
Jaki was great in finding us a contract we liked. I liked her because she worked after hours - most of our conversations with her took place when we were home from work and dh & I could discuss the potential contracts face to face. Be aware that many contracts never make it to the website. She calls her client list first. Sometimes, I would see the contracts go up on the website the next day after rejecting an offer or after the seller rejects my offer.
Prices are a bit cheaper through a private sale (but they are hard to find). But the timeshare brokers definitely have much larger selections.
Remember that everything is negotiable! This seems like a good time to buy - large selection, ok prices. Lots of sellers + many buyers temporarily inticed to buy at BCV directly from Disney = more room for negotiations. If the seller rejects your counter offer, check out another one, seems like plenty are out there!
Good luck!!

I concur with the recommendation above for Jaki at atimeshare.com. We just purchased a BWV contract from her and she was fantastic! She called us every step of the way and let us know what was going on and what to do next. Terrific lady! I wouldn't hesitate to go to her again if we were in the market.

Our one and only resale experience (so far) has been with Shontell at The Timeshare Store in late 1999. She was very patient in explaining the process to us. We were (and still are) very satisfied with the whole experience.
The only obvious thing that hasn't been mentioned is that you will have to work out your own financing unless you plan to pay cash. We used our home equity loan to pay for our resale.
We have previously purchased 3 resales via JAKI at atimeshare.com with complete satisfaction.
Just remember.........deals come and go. I would look for a package with banked points AND try to offer a price no higher than the low 60s. Who knows, you may find a motivated seller who also is willing to pick up your closing costs (around $500) too!!!!
Good Luck

I also wanted to recommend Jaki at a timeshare.com. We are working with her now on a resale and she always gets back to you promptly. You can tell she really knows her business. We got a great resale with all of last year's points and this year's points coming in a month. Good luck!

We worked with Shontell from The Timeshare Store. In my opinion it was Painless.....as for Shontell, that's another story. My DH questioned absolutely everything.
We are proud owners at OKW and very happy!! We also got a good deal...............
I can't say enough about Jaki at A Timeshare Broker. If you want someone that is going to be low key and help you through the process you can not go wrong in contacting her 888-345-2622

We bought our OKW resale last fall from Timeshare Store. Don't remember the name of the person we worked with, but everything went very smooth. We did need to get our own financing and used a home equity loan for that.
