I live near NYC so I can go see it in there but I was wondering if anyone has seen it in LA and what you thought of it. I am seriously thinking about getting tickets for March while I am out there.

I went last March and really enjoyed it. If you are an Ugly Betty fan, they had an episode that was supposed to have been at a theater in NY, but actually was filmed at the Pantages in Hollywood with the Hollywood cast in it. Eden Espinoza was Elphaba, but she is supposed to have left the show at the end of 2007. Megan Hilty was Galinda. The new Elphaba is supposed to be Caissie Levy.

I've seen it just under 250 times.

I still like it

Thanks I think I am definitely going to see it. I have only seen it once in NYC. It is just way too popular in the city to get tickets for a few months from now.

Just saw it on Dec 29th - great show! We were fortunate to see Eden Espinosa, Carol Kane, and Adam Wyle before (we understand) they ended their runs with the show the following night. That night understudy Emily Rozek played Glinda, and honestly I don't know how that role could have been performed better. And this coming from a Kristen Chenoweth fan!

Have fun!

Yes yes yes... you must see Wicked! We saw it fall of 2006 in Seattle and absolutely loved it! I only hope that I get the chance to see it again someday!!! On a side note, we just travelled to Seattle last week to see Jersey Boys as well. It was completely different to Wicked but fabulous as well. Even though those songs just slightly preceded my generation, you still know them. It was really great!! Oh what a night....!!!

We just saw it at Pantages in December, but it looks like I'm going to need to get tickets again to check out the cast changes. ;)

I'd love to see John Rubinstein as The Wizard and JoAnne Worley as Madame Morrible.

Loved Eden Espinosa as Elphaba, hopefully her replacement will be good.

I've seen several Fiyero's and several Glinda's and Kristoffer Cusick and Megan Hilty are my favorites!
As far as I know both of them are staying.
:woohoo:

I don't know anything about the new Boq... but the previous one was not my favorite in that role anyway.

Definitely worth seeing at Pantages!

LOVED IT!!!!!! ( saw 12/30/07) My birthday present

Boq- we liked.. He was on the Gilmore Girls..

I do admit... I liked the bubbles the best. The story was incredible and it answered a lot of questions...

The set was incredible and the monkeys were so cool...

I saw it 2/07 and it was amazing!!! I would tell anyone to go see it, the cast was great (Eden, Megan, Carol Cane who I love!), and Pantages is such a beautiful theater and amazing to see shows at (we also saw Lion King here).

I think I need to go back too!

Okay... now my head is spinning with possibilities. We are going to be in DL from August 13 to 17th. I hadn't considered taking everyone to Wicked but now am wondering if that might be a GREAT idea. We live in the Southern interior of British Columbia and waiting for the good stuff to come to Vancouver is like pulling teeth! That's why we head to Seattle once or twice a year. I would love to see Wicked again. What would the drive from Anaheim to the Pantages be like? We weren't planning on renting a car but would consider it for a good reason like this. Or, would there be car services etc that we could hire to take us there for the evening. Would that cost big bucks? Any advice from you experiences Californians? Thanks in advance!!!! :grouphug:

I'm guessing it would probably be most economical to rent a car.

Disneyland to Pantages is just over 30 miles. Mapquest drive time is 37 minutes.

Absolutely do NOT believe that though. If you're spending the money on Wicked tickets you want to be there to see the show!

Last time we drove up that way; from 60 miles out with a mapquest estimated drive time of just over an hour, it actually took us almost 3 hours.
No wrecks, no stalled vehicles, no special traffic reports on any of the freeways we traveled.

Yes, LA traffic really can be that bad

But Pantages is pretty close to the Disney Soda Fountain & Studio Store, or Graumans Chinese Theatre, or American Girl Place LA, or other Hollywood landmarks if any of those interest you. You could make a day of it to be sure you're there on time.

I am staying near LAX so it won't take me that long while I wait for my friends to arrive. Then we are traveling down to SD.

Go, go! DD and I went in September... loved it so much, for my inlaws Christmas gift we bought them tickets (visiting from Tennessee), and DD got to escort them. We absolutely loved it! If you have a large group book early, it gets hard to find decent seats together for a party of more than 2 or 3.

Too bad you aren't going in January or February, they just sent out a discount code for several of the dates in both months. I'm going again at the end of February, sitting in the orchestra section for 50% off my ticket price. Not every ticket is discounted, the mezzanine was full price for that date. The code is 3WINTER.

Daughter 12 - Has only heard the music but loves it. She even begs to watch Pushing Daisys just so she could see Galinda.

So, Knowing that Dad is not made of money.

If you had a choice between a day at Disneyland or Wicked which would choose?

That is the hardest to answer question I have ever seen asked. I would look into ebay or matinee tickets and see if you can do both, but otherwise I would do Wicked. The main reason why is because who knows how long the play will be around, besides I think its an amazing experience to see live theater and will give your daughter a greater appreciation for live art. I was taken to see The Nutcracker when I was 8 and it is something that has stayed with me all these years.

As much as I love it I have to say Disneyland will still be there next year.

I agree, that's the hardest question I have heard for a long time....

hmmm. I have flown to LA and Chicago (we live in Oregon) just to see Wicked....well worth it each time. I say if the opportunity presents itself.... see Wicked at the Pantages. You can get good prices on Orchestra level seats (we did) from everyone's favorite bidding site, and Disney will be there next year.

Go on, ya know you want to... Defy Gravity!

We live in MN, so Chicago is doable for a weekend trip.

So based on cast and theater, would you see Wicked in LA or Chicago.

We are in LA area for 10 days March - First week April.

Thanks again.

DH got me tickets for CArrie Underwood & Keith Urban at the Pond on the 13th, we're heading to Dland on the 14th and going to the Wicked matinee on the 15th. We'll have to compare notes and sing Wicked songs when we meet up in April! LOL

THANK YOU for the post! I just read Wicked and Son of a Witch and soo want to see the play. I had no idea it was in LA this spring.

The trick is, it is just me and my nearly 5 year old on vacation. Now she LOVES Wizard of Oz. Her 4th b-day party was Oz themed and she knew almost all the trivia answers. Would the play be too much for a 5 year-old?

And if I do this I'll have to book an extra night at a hotel, but worth it. We'll be driving to CA so no worries about transportation (except for that rush hour gridlock).

THANKS!!!

To be honest I read both books too and they skimmed over a lot of the darker parts so its not as dark or deep as the books. I think she will love Glinda and maybe even Elphaba. I don't think she would be scared at all of the material but she might get bored if you isn't a good "sitter" and if she doesn't get into the songs. Maybe pick up the cast CD before you go and listen to it with her that would get both of you into the mood for the play, and make her more interested in what she is going to see. Kids love to know the songs :)

Thanks a ton! We talked about it a little bit, and most likely if it is too borring, she will fall asleep. We would go the evening of our 4th day of our DisneyLand vacation. The dark stuff doesn't scare her much (loves POTC & Star Wars), but I was worried about the love (or whatever term fits) sceens.

Now to plan the timing with traffic, ohh - she might just sleep during that part of the evening...

I would suggest that you check with the folks at Pantages before you purchase tickets. I have no idea how strict they are when it comes to enforcing age limits, and you'd probably be fine anyway since your DD is so close.
But I thought you should be aware of their age restrictions.

From the Broadway in LA site:

WICKED
Tickets on sale now through July 6, 2008

Don't worry about the love scenes either most of the Quadling love affair is written out of the play. I think the first love scene is just "hey you want to go out on the town" they go inside a door and the relationship is implied. I think the only thing to worry is that she sort of gives birth to Elphaba. They bring the baby from under the ladies skirt as she lays on a bed. Thought I would mention that since I am no sure where you might have taken that talk.

I think there is some romantic stuff in the second act too but again it was all implied not long or Soap Opera in bed stuff at all.

I called and got the OK to bring my 7-days-shy-of-turning-5 year-old daughter :-) Just got my tickets on Ticketmaster. Now I need to find out all the cool stuff we can do near the theatre and see how much time we want to schedule there. Maybe get there around 3 and avoid some of the rush-hour traffic.

As I was freaking out at work I found out a co-worker has gone twice and also read the book. How in the world we work next to each other and I didn't know she read that book, I can't figure out. She is going to lend me her CD so we can be prepared for all the new songs (but we won't sing at the play :-)

The Hollywood and Vine subway station is literally across the street - you could take that over to the next station, Hollywood and Highland, and visit the Disney Soda Fountain, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, etc.

Or just hang around the theater area and check out the star names on the sidewalk. Jimmy Stewart is at Hollywood and Vine, just west from the Pantages.

Just saw "Wicked" in LA on 3/28. First timer............loved it. I'd love to know if this version is different in anyway from the Broadway version. The tickets are less $$ then NYC.

Regarding age limits..........I saw plenty of really little toddlers sitting on their parents laps. The age restriction is definately not questioned at all.

Content-wise you're fine. Venue depends on the child and the parent's willingness to miss the play if necessary. Only take a kid that small if you are ready to bolt for the door if they get fussy. We started our son out on Lion King to be sure he could maintain quiet all the way through a play before we took him to Wicked. This is not a place anyone will (or even should) be understanding about noisy kiddos.
