My experience has been great at that time of year. The crowds have been manageable and the weather has been GREAT.Also, the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival happens during this time.I was able to attend a taping through an Annual Passholder promotion and was able to get in a little earlier than peole who just "showed up" if I remember correctly. It was not hard to get in for a taping, probably because the schools in Florida were still in session.Tickets were required for the taping of the concert on Friday. They were free and went quickly I understand-I would think a lot of local residents got them.I was able to get concert tickets through the AP promotion. It was really a lot of fun and the DG Stars were really nice(well MOST of them were:) ):)

usewickhouse - You said you went last year and found info on the AP website. Are tickets only available to AP ticket holders? Or offered to them first and then to GP? Do you remember how much your tickets were?
Just trying to plan to see if this would be doable for us.
Thanks for any info you can share!

The tickets were free but they only gave out a certain amount, which I do not know the #, for the passholders to be "extra's" during the filming. Once you completed your shift they then gave you the tickets for that Friday's concert. To clarify...you, the AP, had to sign up to "work" meaning be there in the audience as an "extra" for a specified amount of time. They had 2 shifts last year morning and afternoon. They were both around 4-6 hours then once you were done you went back out to the check in area and they would give you the concert tickets. For every ticket you get you have to have the same amount of people working a shift. So for me and my 2 DD's we all 3 had to be there during the taping during one of the days before the concert working a shift. I'm not sure that I am explaining this very good but if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

As far as them offering them to the general public I don't think they did that? I know there were people there that were actually "paid" extra's. They was a big group of teenagers that were there from a casting call type thing. There were also older people there that got tickets to WDW for being extra's. I sat next to this lady last year that told me she frequently comes over to the Disney area to just be an "extra" for them and they compensate her with park tickets. This same lady is the one that told me about the teenagers that were there. They had all teens in a specific area all together. They were the kids that were lined up all around the actual games that were going on. They also got special seating to the concerts, they were the ones on the ground right up front. Our tickets to the concert were seats in the stadium. They were lower level and good seats but we had to use binnaculars to see the stars. Still it was a blast for all of us! During the week our girls got to meet many of the starts and get autographs as they walked around WWS. We will definitely be back this year. I am now trying to figure out how to pull my DD's out from school again. My youngest is in preschool this year and the week of the games is her last week of school. Her last day is actually 4-30 so she may have to miss that Monday or Tuesday and it will be worth it!!!!!!Becky

Thanks so much for the info!!!

I am not currently an AP holder but had been considering it. This added benefit may help me make my decision! This would be an awesome surprise for my 12-year-old DD. She had hip surgery last year and has 2 more surgeries to undergo to correct a condition she was born with. This would just be a great thing for her to experience in between surgery/recovery times!

So basically, admission to the taping is 'free' you just have to 'work' while you are there? AND you get to meet some of the Disney Channel Kids?

usewickhouse
01-09-2008, 11:37 AM
Yes, the admission is free for this. You only have to work one shift, at least that is how they worked it last year. The other thing I should point out that you will need to check the AP website daily to sign up for this. I know for the Christmas parade taping the AP tickets to be "extra's" went in a matter of a couple of hours so check daily, maybe even more than once a day. And also keep checking the DIS boards for any new info that may come out. This board has some amazing people on here and they keep us in the know before things even happen! BEcky

usewickhouse-Thanks for the info!

Another question - you said you only have to 'work' 1 shift. Is that to get the concert ticket? What if you want to watch taping everyday? Are you allowed or do you only get to attend for 1 day of taping?

Thanks again for your help!

usewickhouse
01-09-2008, 12:22 PM
Yes that is to get the concert ticket. I'm pretty sure you can come and go as you please during that week to watch the games. You only need to sign up if you are wanting to be an "extra" and to get the concert ticket. If anyone out there can confirm this or give better details please do.

I would like to know if anyone knows if passholders can get more than the one ticket per pass? I have a friend and her 2 DD's that would like to do this with us this year but they are not passholders and I have no idea how she can do that without being a passholder. Is there other ways to get tickets for the concert and to audience members? Thanks, Becky

No announcements have been made about how this year's games will be held,so there may or may not be a Passholder promotion,DCG Concert, etc.Last year's Games seemed to be very successful,so I would think everything would be similar this year, but there is really no way to know at this point.LAST YEAR,anyone could attend the tapings without a ticket. There was PLENTY of room, because the Florida schools were still in session and the tapings were during school hours.I think if the Florida schools were not in session,it would have been CROWDED!!!!!The benefit of the Passholder taping ticket was to receive concert tickets.IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY,you could bring three guests with each Annual Pass to the tapings and receive four DCG Concert tickets at the end of the taping session.I am not sure how the General Public DCG Concert tickets were distributed because I did not even know about the DCG until a few weeks before my already scheduled WDW trip, but I understand they went FAST.I would think they went mostly to local Floridians because it was on Friday night and not during school hours so there was no conflict with school.:)

Yes.I was able to get autographs from some of the Disney Channel Stars for my niece.None of the "big names" were there though-I ONLY got autographs from Mitchell Musso,Kyle Massey,Monique Coleman,Sabrina Bryan,Kiely Williams,Adrienne Bailon,Jason Earles,Jason Dolley,Emily Osment,Corbin Bleu,Dylan Sprouse,Cole Sprouse,Madison Pettis, etc.;) :) Oh yeah,I also got an autograph from some girl I had never heard of-I believe her name was Miley Cyrus.;) :)

The Disney Channel Games Annual Passholder promotion that is being referenced was for LAST year's Disney Channel Games. The only information that has been released so far,to my knowledge,is that the DCG are returning to WDW in 2008 and they will be held April 28-May 3.IF there is a similar Passholder promotion for 2008,I would not expect it to be announced for quite some time, possibly as late as late March/early April, but that is STRICTLY a guess.:)

I just wanted to clarify what "meeting" the DCG Stars means. There was NO organized autograph session or "meet and greet" per se.As the Stars were going onto and leaving the field where the events were taped, sometimes they would come over to the stands and sign some autographs. There were also some other areas away from the field where they would sometimes sign autographs as they went to eat lunch, etc. The amount of autographs you could get was really determined by how much time you wanted to put into it.If you happen to stay at one of the WDW resorts where the DCG Stars are also staying, you will probably see them quite a bit,but I think most most people staying at one of those resorts tried to respect their privacy there as much as possible, because when they were at their resort they were just Guests like you and me and were not "working" like they were at Wide World of Sports. There is also a chance you will see some of the Stars out in the parks.I saw Kyle Massey one night just hanging out in Tomorrowland and Miley Cyrus one night in Epcot as she was being escorted to a DCG press event.Even though there was no organized autograph session,it was so much fun to watch everyone scream at the Stars and ask them to come sign autographs.:)

Thanks again WEDWDW!

I have been debating getting an AP for a trip we're planning in November in the hopes of getting a discounted room (still not one of the few to get a PIN code!) and the DDE 20% card. Still undecided but if there is a chance AP holders will be offered the opportunity to 'work' the DCG the AP would be worth it!

I would love to surprise me 12-year-old with this trip! She's in the middle of multiple surgeries to correct a hip condition she was born with and this would be great 'therapy' while waiting for her next surgery!

Thanks again for sharing what you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did this last year and "worked" 4 days. My kids loved every single sweaty second of it. It was HOT and at times I was miserable... until I looked at their bright smiling faces and then I had to admit it was totally worth it! Thanks for the update Osjah&Landon'sMom!

I linked over to last year's post and saw your link to pics on AOL. It is asking for a username and password to get into the album. Is there another way to see the pics?

Are you an AP holder? Is that how you get the wristbands? Is it still worth going even if you are not an AP holder? Looking at some pics that were below yours on the other post, it didn't look very crowded at all!!

So, are you planning on going this year?

Thanks!!!!

Sorry, just view them as a guest... there's a spot for that... we HOPE to get to do it again this year but no we are not passholders. We were "hired" to come be part of the audience and our "pay" was a free ticket into any Disney park per person per day worked... the kids thought they had hit the motherload LOL

DeAnna4140
01-18-2008, 06:55 AM
Sounds like a wonderful form of 'payment' to me!! How did you get 'hired' last year?

I had told my daughter if we go, we would just be there for the games and that we wouldn't be able to go to the parks as we are planning a trip in November 08. She would be thrilled to be there just to watch the games - a ticket to the parks for 'working' would be a great added bonus!!

Off to look at your pic!

Thanks again!

DeAnna4140
01-18-2008, 07:04 AM
Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

It didn't look too crowded. What did you actually do when you 'worked?' I saw people outside of the fence. Were they just observers and the 'workers' were inside the fence? Sorry for all the questions, I want to be sure it is worth our time to make the long trip down there.

I read through the old posts from last year and saw the comments about some not so nice DC kids. How disappointing!!

Thanks again!

Osjah&Landon'sMom
01-19-2008, 01:49 AM
We were the audience... had to wait a lot and watch and clap etc... they only had one section full per shift per day so it was not crowded at all... many of the DC stars just came out and walked among the kids and signed autographs and took pics.. some stayed behind the gates and signed and posed with the kids from a distance and others the kids never got close to... it was a LONG HOT day but in hindsight was totally worth it just for the thrill for the kids...

Yes,most of the different games take place in the outfield and you can go down the Third Base line and watch from a grass hill.I think the Egg Toss and Dunking Booth were in the infield. There are "extras" who get to be right by the different games cheering, but I don't know the process Disney uses to select "extras".There is a great amount of down time, but it is still fun to "hang out" there for a while and see how many autographs you can get. They had the concession stands and the merchandise shop open and it was a very fun atmosphere if you are a fan of the Dsiney Channel Stars.:)

NO!The daily tapings were NOT crowded last year because the Florida schools were still in session and therefore most Florida students could not attend,so it was mostly us tourists at the daily tapings.I would estimate the crowds to be under a thousand people in a stadium with a capacity of 9,500.The Friday night taping of the DCG Concert was PACKED big time because it was on a Friday night and the locals could attend.:)

I would think so.I sat in the stands last year,so I don't know how early you would need to arrive to be right by the stage.:) Just remember that a lot of the time you will just be standing there waiting for something to happen-it is a taping for television so it is not like a regular concert you would go to.:)

Last year the official policy was no cameras allowed. There was a bag check station similar to the ones at the Parks you went through before you entered Champion Stadium. They were not allowing cameras,BUT they were allowing cellphones which as you know contain cameras in many cases. Also I would think some people just brought cameras into the stadium in their pocket out of view. There were MANY pictures taken in the stadium.Sometimes the Security Guards would try to stop it,but it was really just too much for them to stop it all.The Stars did not seem to mind at all-I saw Miley allowing people to take their picture with her using their cellphone cameras as she signed autographs.I guess we won't know how hard they are going to enforce the no-camera policy this year until we get there.:)I am sorry about your DH's decision, but honestly you will have a better chance at autographs, etc. at the daily tapings than at the Concert. Also keep watching for information about the possible FanFest on April 30.:)

IIRC last year each performer-Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montanna,The Cheetah Girls-Jonas Brothers-only sang about 2-3 songs each.IIRC there was as much as 30 minutes down time in between the "action".

Yes WED, this is my concern as my family was hired as extras last year so we had armbands daily and access to everything. How did you get in and was it a wait in line in the am thing or what since we may have to go "your way" this year LOL

It was NOT hard to get into the daily tapings.:)I went early one morning and there was a line waiting to get in.The line wasn't long and once they "opened" it quickly dissipated.I went one afternoon and walked right to the bag check area and right in.:)Just remember,General Public spectators cannot go onto the field-we were limited to ths stands and a grassy area down the third base line.:)

My quote referred to the daily tapings.I do not remember if people with tickets in the stands were allowed on the field at the Concert last year.I did not try to go onto the field.I am sorry I don't have an answer for you.I am glad you "scored" tickets-it seems so MANY people did not.

No, if you have stadium tickets you are NOT allowed to go on the field. The tickets are actually reserved seating. You will get a specific section, row and seat number that you must sit at. The people on the field tickets will state "field" and they will have to get in line VERY early, I would imagine, to get up close and personal to the stars. We were there last year and the field looked absolutely crazy. As there were a ton of people, young and old. All we kept wondering was if there was any pushing and shoving going on down there? The people on the field will not have as much freedom to move, go potty or get refreshments as the people in the reserved seats. Mostly because the field is where all the taping is going on for the segments of the concerts that will be aired on the DCG during the summer.

This all just seems fishy to me. Having been there like we were last year, you know how it's set up and unless they are going to lock everyone in their seats, HOW can it not be spectator friendly... unless everything is being taped behind that stage area and facing the other direction? Also, was anyone really there to "watch" the games I mean come on, it was a photo and autograph op for the kids to see their fav celebs... and there's no way to avoid spectators from still having that!

Hal Boedeker has a direct quote from Disney in his blog.It is worded differently than the poster's post.It just says that unlike last year they are not actively recruiting audience members. It goes on to say that Guests are welcome to come into the stadium when games are taking place, but that the TELEVISION TAPING of the Games is not spectator friendly. So,I interpet their statement to mean that there is down time during the television taping.I don't interpet it to mean that the actual "experience" will not be spectator friendly. It sounds like it will be just like last year to me.:)

So I should have requested "seats" instead of "field" huh? How close are the seats from the actual stage though? I've never been to this area of WDW at all so I'm not familiar with it. I'll search for some pics.

I am not good with distances but last year we had really good seats in the stadium and we needed binaculars to "really" see the stars. Basically this is filmed at the baseball field, at Wide World of Sports, so the reserved seats are where a person would sit to watch a baseball game. The concert portion of this will be filmed in the outfield, say home run section? I'm guessing here but this will be pretty close if they do it the same as last year.

No matter where you are this will be a night to remember for everyone that attends. We had a blast with our girls last year. Do not miss the fireworks at the end they were pretty awesome!! If you end up on the field just go potty and grab some water before you get in line.

I found a picture of the stadium so I can see what you're talking about. I wondered where the stage was, so thank you for that. I do have tickets for the field but wondered about trading someone for seats in the stadium...but I'm not sure. There will be (3) 31/32 year old moms with (2) 8 year olds and a (7) year old. With regard to the Field vs Seat tickets.... yes, seats are way more comfortable and yes some people were squishing and such but... my then 7 yar old and her 7 year old friends had a ball and would not have traded those field spots for anything. We were able to take breaks etc... because there are LONG breaks in between each act and with several parents, one makes the run for the potty or the refills etc.. and the rest hold the spots. It's all good... you'll be glad... bring a blanket and some ponchos though... blanket for you to sit off to the side when things are on down time and boring and it starts to get late and ponchos for ...well... you know LOL I hope they have the refill cups again this year! They were about $3 for the first soda and then $1 for each additional in that cup... we still use them, pretty nice plastic cups with lids... we had a sharpee (for autographs) that we just put everyone's name on so we didn't mix them up

LOL it's Disney... do they sell shirts? Ummm yeah LOL... along with every other piece of junky parafanalia (sp??) they can muster... last year they sold about 12 dfferent shirts, some for team colors, some for just the games etc.... also foam fingers and buttons and... well you get the idea... they are on sale outside the stadium at booths as well as in the little stores... (all week so if you are thereearlier in the week you migh want to stop by and check that stuff out before they sell way down)

Another tip... bring something for the kid to do during the down time.. it gets rather boring so even a deck of Uno Cards or crayons and coloring books will save your sanity... we were also able to bring in snacks last year so you might want to throw in some smaller things to keep you from spending a fortune at the snack bar...

AND BRING A SHARPEE and something for autographs.. they sell them there but trust me it's a LOT cheaper at Walmart LOL My kids just got their shirts autographed but think about that when buying a shirt - some colors show better than others even when using a black shrpee - Yellow worked best for us last year... the red shirt is pretty dark...

Yes they will be abe to get autographs - the stars come in and out of the staging area through the stands way over on the right (as you face the stage) so do your very best to get seats on that aisle (hey honey use that wheelchair if you have to!) OR find out if it is possible for you to get in the front row etc... keeping in mind that the far right aisle or the front row is the place to be.

You can access the store without going to the actual games so you may want to check that out when you pick up your tickets (remember you have to pick those up by Wed 30th) because the selection of items is MUCH better here than anywhere else.

You might want to ask about the cooler - we could last year but you never know... but with a special needs child, you of course will be allowed more than the average persn because they tend to need special things! Disney is usually so good though about not making a stink about anything I suspect it will be fine.

Most of all just enjoy the moment... the kids are just in AWE... oh and BRING BINOCULARS so they can REALLY see because in the stands/seats it's harder... although they did have those big screens on the sides of the stage last year so you can see it on there if nothing else!

I rode the bus from DHS last year, but the parking lot was PACKED-PACKED-PACKED!If you wait too late you may get stuck in traffic. It is a fun atmosphere at the DCG Concert,so I say the earlier the better. What I am thinking about doing is going to WWoS about 5:00,eating at the All-Star Cafe and just hanging out.:)

WEDWDW,
You rode the bus TO WWS, were there buses to get back? Or did you have to take a cab?

I hope it's free to get in. We plan on being there in the morning taping for Friday, I hope.

Yes,there was bus service, but the bus went to DTD.By the time the DCG Concert was over DHS was closed. When DHS is closed the WWoS bus goes to DTD where people can transfer to other buses.:) It would have been A LOT faster to take a cab.:)

There was no charge to enter WWoS last year.It seems like if there was going to be a charge this year, they would have announced that when they announced the public could enter the stadium during the tapings.:)

Does the public have like a separate section to be in if they don't have a ticket?:surfweb:

The public could be anywhere other than on the field during the tapings and it was not crowded any day but honestly so far I can find NOTHING about getting in to watch this year.

(i know for a fact the taping started on a tuesday last year so maybe the 29th this year?)

I don't think we know at this point, but the most often mentioned date is April 28,which would make the DCG 6 days long as opposed to 4 days long last year.I really don't know why they would need 2 more days.:)

Yesterday I received an automated email saying there were no tickets available and then today.....Yippee! They emailed me again to confirm that I have 5 seats! Talk about unexpected! Here's the problem I have: We live in Ohio and are flying in May 2. Friends that we are joining will be there earlier in the week. Could I give my friend my letter and a color copy of my license (or anything else) and would they let her pick up my tickets? I tried to email Rosemarie who sent the email, but I got another automated email saying there were no tickets available, lol. What do you think?

I finally got tickets too! I had all but given up hope. I told the girls we weren't going... now I am thinking about suprising them when we get there! Is that evil? I hope more info is released soon!

I have received 4 e-mails today stating that the games will not be viewable this year, there is no set schedule and that basically it will be set up in such a way that there will be nothing to see. I'm SO disappointed for my kids who have looked forward to this all year.

What is meant by "not be viewable"?Disney has confirmed that Champion stadium WILL be open to the public during the tapings. The only two big differences I have been able to determine between this year's DCG and last year's DCG is that there is no "recruited audience"-meaning the public will not be asked to sit together in one section with some wearing team colors, etc. and be filmed cheering when directed to by the production crew-there WILL be an "audience" of already selected "extras" on the field to cheer.I don't see why that is "deal breaker".The other main difference is that Disney is saying that ALL games will take place in the outfield with the DCG Concert stage being in place the entire week thereby blocking the view of the games.First of all,MOST of the games were held in the outfield last year anyway and because of the distance the view was not that good last year WITHOUT the DCG Concert stage being set up.There was a grassy area down the third base line where people went to view the outfield games. If this area is open this year-PROBLEM SOLVED!:) There was really not a "set" schedule lasat year-just a basic outline of which games would be taped on which days.A television taping is a fluid and changing endeavor. Finally,I have read or heard NOTHING that indicates the DCG Stars will not be allowed to interact with their fans like they did last year and isn't that the MAIN reason we are all going anyway?:)

When did you send your e-mail? I still have not gotten a response and I sent mine at 12:48am on the 29th. There are others on here that sent theirs after and have gotten a confirmation.

Still waiting and praying.

Well... I am not sure exactly... I sent a few and it was all so confusing... I am pretty though that I got them when I tried the second email address on the dcgames.com website. It was like wdpprodctions or something... Evidently I heard that there was a glitch or something and they didn't get the info posted. So when that email address went up I think they released more tix. And I must have been one of the lucky ones wo got them. My thoughts are that if you haven't heard anything you are probably on the waiting list. I wouldn't give up hope! Especially with the way you have to pick up the tix a few days in advance and if you don't, they are releasing them to those on the waiting list. People are already asking if they have to personally pick up the tix. But the email I got said you have to show proof of identity... so I think they will probably be pretty strict on that. Good luck!

Any tips for those of us going to be on the field with younger children that werent planning for it -
Did you arrive early to "claim" your spot? I believe i read somewhere that you were an extra so this might not have impacted you
How is the "pushing" etc?
Also - they let you bring towels?
Any ideas where the speakers are placed? I may sound ignorant but is the field that that much louder than the seats? Wasnt sure with it being a stadium if the sound is resounding anyway?
Any advice from anyone with prior field experience - and esp those with younger children is very much appreciated.

I have seats. Will there be a chance for autographs for the people who aren't on the field? Has anyone heard who might be there besides the Cheetah Girls and the Jonas Brothers?
