Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Ok, so I just popped and forgot the game was on. DH grew up in Jax...oh my!
I did 4 miles from VWL to FW this morning for a pseudo-LR. We used to stay in the FW cabins a lot...good thing or I would've been totally lost on that run!
Oh for anyone who's asked about the Xmas decorations...when we checked in yesterday they were here. By this morning they were gone!
Need to run...see ya next weekend!

I got on the first page this week!!!
Mel - Hope you have/had a good stay at VWL. We thought about going for the day but other things came up that were a little more important.
Matt - Forgot to say WELCOME BACK. Glad that nothing happened on the last deployment. Look forward to seeing you and your wife at Disney next week.

Soooo close. Soooo nervous!! Sooo excited!!! :dance3:
Yesterday was my 6 mile run, my last LR before the big one and I was running away on the TM when my DH came down and asked me why I threw away my Injinji socks. Um, I didn't throw away my socks. Well what about this little (Amphipod) pack? OMG, the dog got the UPS package, shredded it and chewed everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared1: I abandoned my run at 4.5 miles  and went out and picked up the other pair of socks from the front yard  found the dog:mad: no I did not kill him but I felt like it:mad: .
Anyway, long story short, my socks and pack are now packed in my bag safely with no holes, thank goodness, and I am no longer mad at the dog. He is only 1 right.....
Safe travels to all heading to WDW soon. I am leaving in 3 days :scared1: and part of me cannot wait and the other part is so nervous!! See you all soon!

Good Morning Teammates: :surfweb:
I'm writing from lovely DC. Nice weather here. I'm staying right downtown (midtown I guess) at the Crowne Plaza "Hamilton" on 14th and K street. I went for my run yesterday afternoon, and did 8.31 miles in 1:40:53 min/12:08 mpm. I have to say I was doing a lot of "sightseeing" of the monuments, but also my left hip is still bothering me. Actually, it's OK when I'm running (although I notice some irritation in there), but when I stop I start limping around. I think I might take the next couple days off (or maybe just some bike cross training). I have meetings all day today and a half day tomorrow anyhow.
Here's my running route from yesterday. I'm bummed that I forgot my camera. I did take photos with my cell phone, but I don't know how to get them off the phone. I wanted to share them.
OK, I started at my hotel and ran down 15th street to the White House. I snapped some pictures of the White House. Ran around the Ellipse to the Washington Monument. Past the Washington Monument to the Jefferson Memorial to East Potomac Park/Haines Point. This was part of the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) course we ran in late October. I ran around Haines Point in the opposite direction that we ran for the MCM.
It was interesting to run around Haines Point yesterday. It seemed so much smaller than it did during the MCM - smaller in every sense. It certainly seemed shorter than it did when it was miles 17-20, and there was not a lot of people around it just seemed peaceful and quiet. Actually running around Haines Point my hip started feeling better - it loosened up and I found my groove. I think it didn't like all the starting and stopping I had been doing earlier. I made it to the point and snapped some photos of "Awakening". I WISH I had my camera, but the photos on my phone are better than nothing. That's such a cool piece of art. It really seems to capture such a spirit, and seems to fit my mood when I'm running a lot. Here's a photo I got from the "googling" it on the internet - for those that haven't seen it.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/The-Awakening.jpg
I ran up the west side of the point to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Park.
The FDR Memorial was a really impressive site. I had never seen it before. Wow, it's really well done. I walked through there and snapped a lot of pictures. After that, I was ready to be done. I was getting a little cold with stopping all sweaty - the wind would start to chill me. Back past the WWII memorial, down Constitution Ave, around the Ellipse, one more shot of the White House, up 15th street to K street, and I'm back at my hotel. I did some stretching in the fitness center of the hotel - no one in there.
Whew, sorry for the long post. I need to get ready for my meeting, but I'll check in again later.

Good Morning Team
I fell asleep and didn't see the end of the game, did our FL team win?, Now if only the BUCS could pull it off today :confused3
Lily Thanks for the cheer :cheer2: !!!
Mel I can't believe the decorations are down :sad2: We are going to Whispering Canyon Thursday night and I was looking forward to them, oh well.
Matt That bib # organization is awesome. I have a ? though. You put DH in Corral A for 1/2 and I thought cut off is # 24000. He might stress if I tell him he's in A, I'll just let him find out when he gets there.;)
Lisa I'm glad your stuff wasn't ruined and the dog survived. We have dog issues around here right now, I probably would have killed mine :scared:
Dave I enjoyed your post. I used to live in MD and we went to DC all the time but I never got to run there. I told DH I would love to do MCM one year.
Going to run later, DH is going to do his last semi-long run and I am going to join him either at the beginning or the end.

Good morning all,
It's getting real close now! Did my last significant run yesterday of 6 miles. From here on out it is just a 30 min run on Mon, Wed and Thu then I'll do a 20 minute run on Sat.
The temps are scary right now, that cold front better come through. We will be in the low 80's pretty much all of this week. Good for the folks traveling early to Disney. We are not going up until Friday since we spent Christmas week at the parks. Plan on getting my packet Friday afternoon then coming over to POP for THE MEET!
Dave, what a great run. That would be so cool. I've never been to DC but it is on my must do list.
Have a great week everyone and I'll see most of you on Friday.
enjoy,
Duane

Well, apparently I had some nervous energy to expend this morning. 6 miles ave. 8:45! Unfortunately, now I starting to feel a little puny--swollen glands and the like. Hoping it's just the phantom sickness--I'm doping up with Airborne, Ibuprofen, and pseudophedrine. If I still feel bad tomorrow, gonna call up my dr. (who is also a marathoner) and see if he'll call in an antibiotic just to have on hand. I get strep really easily, and that would really suck!

WDW MARATHON -- ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!
:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:
I am starting to freak out! I hope I can eat this week; my stomach already has butterflies! Yikes.
Stephanie - Wowser on that pace! You go girl! Now don't get sick!!
Duane - What a great feeling to get the last "long" run done! Now let's get some cold(er) weather moving down there.
Angie - Glad to know you'll be scream teaming next weekend - I'm going to need all the help I can get!
Bill - That was some game; have to say I was rooting for the Steelers, even though I am a Browns fan.
MSDave - Sounds like a great run! DH and I were talking about how much fun it would be to run in DC.
Lisa - Glad your socks and pack didn't get eaten! Sounds like something the black lab I had would have done. One time she ate all our bills that were stacked on the counter. We actually had to call up everyone and explain that the dog had eaten our bills to get new ones!
Matt - First off, WELCOME HOME! And thanks for doing that; I'll check it out later.
Krista - Sorry about that tough loss. But what a comeback - it was very exciting! (Even though I'm a Browns fan, I have to root for the Steelers since Ben's an MU alum)
Mel - Hope you're having a magical time!
Lily - :cheer2: :cheer2:
Hopefully I'll get a quick run in today between church and soccer tournament. Then tomorrow I'll do 8 and ease on into next week!
Happy training!

I was feeling pretty good this morning until I realized that the marathon is a week from today!! Now my stomach is all queasy and I am kind of shaky. Ugh.
I ran my last run with my team yesterday. We were supposed run 8. One girl just didn't have it in her, so I walked her in the last 2 miles. I made her walk at a 14 minute pace though. I am more concerned about how the members of my little group are going to do in the marathon than I am about myself.
I have resigned myself to the fact that I am probably going to be in a lot of pain the last few miles of the marathon but I am pretty sure I can push through it. I am not so sure about my first timers. They just don't seem to have the mental "getter done" attitude of my WISH teammates. Hopefully, they will surprise me.
For me, The big questions are:
1.) When will it start to hurt?
2.) How bad will the pain be?
Are those lovely thoughts to propel me through the week?! And to think I actually paid A LOT of money to do this!!!
I am too excited to sleep. :goodvibes

Good morning WISH team! :surfweb:
I had my last LR yesterday (one hour) and I ran too fast. At one point I was on a 10:45 min per mile pace! :scared1: Way too fast for a marathon. But, I gotta say, it was fun to run for "just" an hour. After the huge long runs that almost seemed like cheating. DH, Calcio, leaves on Wed morn and I leave Thurs eve. I am excited to see everyone and even more excited to have this over with!!!
I also have personnel problems at work that have continued over the weekend! Don't these people realize I have much more important things to worry about than their stupid egos!?!!! I gotta focus here!
WWDave and Erica: safe travels and see you on Friday.
Terri: I hadn't thought of bringing pom poms! Great idea. And we can be nervous together. I'm starting to have Kafka-esque dreams.
Cecilia: see note to Terri. Will you be at the POP meet? All of us who are nervous should stand together for moral support. All the old-timers can giggle at us!
Renee: see note to Terri and Cecilia. If I didn't have this stupid problem at work, I would be biting my nails and wearing a path in the carpet. OK, maybe there is something positive about this stupid problem!
Stephanie: here's PD that you do NOT get sick. Please take care of yourself! pixiedust:
This goes to anyone around sick people: WALK AWAY! JUST WALK AWAY! You do NOT need to be around them. Stay healthy!!!
Angie: yup, Jags won. But they didn't look too good.
Mouse Skywalker: great job on the run! Love the photo.
princessrunner: see note to Terri, Cecilia and Renee. Focus on the part that is excited, not that which is nervous. I know, I know, easier said than done!
Matt: welcome back!! Can't wait to see you and Cheryl. I'm 7373 so you can add me to corral D in the red group (marathon).
Lily: thanks for the cheer!
I must say I'm looking forward to not having my weekends consumed by long runs and being a slave to a schedule. On the other hand, a one-hour run seems like I'm cheating! I'm just so happy to be getting away and seeing all of you. Now, everyone stay healthy and injury free!
Have a good day everyone!

:surfweb: Hi, I left a note on the thread yesterday that I was probably going to hit the streets for a run. It went well (finally) and I managed a LR of 9.88 miles. I ran most of it between a 9:30 and 10 minute pace. I ran a distance from home and then through a state park on paved trails. It was beautiful with the streams frozen over with ice. I don't think it actually reached 48 degrees here, more like 39. I felt good and ran 95% of it which is a notable difference from my 60/40 jaunts of late.
Lily - Thanks for the cheer. :thumbsup2 :cheer2:
I may hit the streets later today for something a little shorter than yesterday. I have a laundry list of things to do here around the house while I am still on break though including putting away Christmas stuff and packing for my Goofy Weekend. :scared1:
Enjoy your day.... share the excitement with someone you love today!

Oooo, one more week! I’m so excited my belly button won’t stop puckering and unpuckering.
7 miles this morning. Picked up a running partner towards the end of the run. His name is Crusty. Couldn’t contact his owner(s), and no rabies tag on his collar. So, animal control came over and picked him up. Hope he'll be ok.
Lily – Rah! Rah! :cheer2:
Mel – Hope you’re having fun at the World.
FLBill – Behave yourself this week. ;)
Krista – Sorry for the Steelers.
Lisa – WTG with the 6 miler!
MSDave – Have fun in DC.
Angie – Glad to hear you’re back to running. :thumbsup2
Duane – WTG with the 6 miler!
Stephanie – Hope you feel better.
Renee – Good luck with the 8 miler tomorrow.
Cecilia and Terri – We’re all going to do well. Trust me. :thumbsup2
Cindy – Wa’supp?
Martha – WTG with the one-hour run.
Howard – WTG with the 10 miler!
Fan of small world – Thanks!
We'll see some of you at the family fun run, and the rest at POP and the races!

Hi, everyone!
Lily -- Thanks for the cheer!
Man, I am totally freaked out. I cannot believe that I signed up to do the full marathon again. What the HECK was I thinking? You'd think my hellish experience last year would have taught me SOMETHING!!!!
Okay, total freak out over. Just had to get that out of my system.
I know why I am doing this. Because I can. Because just a little over 3 years ago I could barely walk up the stairs to our bedroom and Howard had to drop me off at work for a few hours at a time because I couldn't make it the 3 blocks from my parking garage to my building, because I was nearly blacking out so frequently that I couldn't drive anymore.
Here's the excerpt from my WISH journal that reminds me of how grateful I must be and am. Every day I pray "Thank you, God, for my healthy, strong body."
In February 1995 I was diagnosed with a rare, potentially fatal heart condition which should have been curable, but which 3 surgeries could not resolve. As of 1/2003, I could no longer even go through the motions of working out (treadmill) and often headed to bed by 7:30 or 8:30 at night, totally wiped out.
So, on 1/6/05 my life changed dramatically, and hopefully forever, when a nationally renowned doctor spent nearly 8 hours working on my heart and CURED me! (He had done the 3rd attempted surgery, but had to give up after 7 1/4 hours) I literally feel better than I have in 10 years and have so much energy and motivation. So, I figured now, while the fire is burning hot, I should get myself in gear, get motivated, and get FIT!
That doctor got me on my feet. The WISH team got my feet moving and has kept me moving ever since. So, in our tradition of getting totally mushy before an event :lmao: I want to take the opportunity to thank my teammates and especially my race partner, Rhonda, who has put aside any quest for personal glory in the interests of friendship and love and . . well, anyone who knows her, knows how amazing she is.  :cloud9:
Seriously, though, look around here. People are going out to buy cowbells & pompoms, for goodness sake! :cheer2: I'll bet if you went to any other racing website, you'd find people totally focused on themselves and THEIR quest for personal satisfaction. Here, this TEAM is all about supporting each other with outrageous amounts of enthusiam, love, acceptance of our varying abilities, and endless patience and encouragement.
How BLESSED are we to have each other?
Love you guys, mean it!

Now that I've written my treatise on western civilization, I'm glad to keep it shorter. I also get really chatty when nervous (ask Martha about our walking tour in the old city of Amsterdam, particularly the area around the Old Church).
I'm ready, both physically and mentally. Again, thank you all for motivating me to do the work this past week to rehab my leg (notice it's a different rehab than entertainers usually face pirate: ). I did an hour today at decent pace with no leg issues.
And particular thanks to my wonderful wife, who knows the amount the pressure and sympathy to apply to me in situations like this. Without her I'd be totally lost.
I arrive Wednesday at noon, and won't pick up Martha until Thursday at 10 pm. Anyone want to get together for a wild and crazy time?
See you Friday

Double ditto Cam!
This WISH team is awesome and there just aren't words enough to express what you all mean to me -ok as an accountant I am MUCH more comfortable with numbers than words - but my life has truly changed because of WISH.
And I am going to be counting on the team for inspiration to help get me through this FULL. It has been a huge case of LTO around my house this winter. Among other things we have a new puppy in the house and I haven't slept through the night in a couple of weeks!! Then Friday overnight I was taking her outside to potty and I slipped and fell. The best news is that sweet little Holly stayed safely snuggled in my arms and I really only fell one step and landed on my well-cushioned behind. But ouch, my left leg folded up under me and it is a little tender. I just keep reminding myself of the huge issues various WISHers have faced and count myself lucky that it could have been much worse.
I am so looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new team members face to face next weekend. I'm kind of shy in groups, and sometimes don't remember names very well, but being part of WISH is the best!
Looking forward to seeing ya real soon!

Hi everyone. I've been MIA since (about) Thanksgiving (WTO, LTO). But, now that we're only a week away, I just had to check in and wish you all well.
Good luck! Good luck! Good luck!
I can't wait for it to get here. But, I don't want it to be over. :upsidedow

Cam - :thumbsup2 It's an honor to be your teammate.
Martha - I lurk because I can. ;) My running partner is currently at animal control. Hopefully, they'll be able to get up with his owners. However, I hope they can prove he's had his rabies vaccination and is licensed in the county.
Craig - We'll be there late afternoon on Wednesday. My wild and crazy days are over, but I'm always game for a bite to eat. Let me know.
Pat - Hoping you heal up quickly.

Cam: OMG, I had no idea you had such serious health issues. I know I have only met you once but you seemed like the poster girl for health and vitality....I would never had guessed you grappled with such medical concerns. You have always held a special place in my heart....you were one of the first people to welcome me and you lent Nancy and me those WISH shirts not even knowing us. Now I learn you are a marathoner who was once in poor health and you are even more my heroine! You rock, girl! I am in awe of your accomplishments....can't wait to see you again this week!
Pat: you're another one of my heroines......please take care of yourself....no injuries allowed! Looking forward to spending lots of time (yeah, like 7 hours worth) with you next Sunday.

LAST long run...ok...6 miler...before the big race weekend today. I am BOUNCING off the walls  . Had a nice pace today...kept it manageable at around a 9:30 mpm....knees were a little sore but they've been giving me trouble lately with the cold. Aleve = New Best Friend. Other than that I'm feeling ready to go. Have to pack...went to the mall looking for shorts.... not such a successful trip, considering I am in the Northeast. In January. duh...and yet I was disappointed to not find any shorts (non-running type...park touring type!!). Sooo...old shorts it will be. *sigh*
I hope everyone is feeling well, strong and ready to go. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone at Pop on Friday!!! I know that the scream teams will be VERY helpful on day 2 of the :goofy:. You guys are SOOO awesome to be out there screaming for us. I know seeing Mel and the other wonderful Wishers at BCV last year when I was hobbling to the finish was a big boost. :goodvibes I will thank anyone and everyone in advance for being out there. Do I have to, that seems so boring. I figured Mr. Panda would be here stirring up more trouble though.
Cam - I'm impressed with you have been able to do. I hope the marathon is a little easier this year.
Kevin - Nice to see you again. Make sure the zebra pants are on full display though.
Sandy - Of course there will be a test at Pop. However only Anne will take it because she is the official Wish introducing person (she will also pass with a perfect score). How she remembers everyones name and face from meet to meet is a great talent.
We will be leaving Wednesday afternoon and hopefully arriving 1.5 hours later. Last time we went, a couple of accidents on the interstate held us up for way too long. We hope to have a nice couple of relaxing days before all the activities start up.

The expo opens at 2:00pm Thursday, right?! We are planning on being there as soon as it opens on Thursday to get mine and Michael's race packets. He is so excited. He told me he wished he could just not go to school for the next 3 days and fast forward straight to the race, and this coming from the kid who LOVES school!! To be honest, I can't wait myself. Last year I was so scared, and I truly mean scared. I had no idea of what to expect, it was my first race ever, I mean it was a terrifying experience. This year however, I am so excited I am bouncing off the walls. I can't wait to get there, and get together with everyone!!

Well, since you brought it up....
I went to Target yesterday and looked through the seasonal stuff for the cowbells. One of the employees saw me looking and asked if I needed any help finding something. I explained what I was looking for and why, and he said, “Oh, are you from Wyoming?” (Note: Ok, Wyoming is like 1500 miles from here. Not the next state over, not even remotely connected to the Midwest, nor to my knowledge does Wyoming have a reputation for being the butt end of these types of jokes, so I have no idea where he’s going with this. I’m sure this guy must have a point here.) So, kidding around I said, “Yep, I’m from Wyoming. Born and bred. Why do you ask?” He replied, “oh, just because that seems to be something you guys do up there.” :confused3
Hmmm. I have no words.

 Did my last LR- 5.5 miles with Emma on her bike and Harry in the stroller. Took about 2 hours (!) with park stops and one quick side trip to drop off a baby present (hey- I finally accomplished my mission of literally "running errands!";) )
Work is going to be horrible this week. I have to go to the big city of Brunswick for court on Wednesday. Normally I'd find that irritating since it's about 60 miles away and I have to be there at 9 a.m., but guess what store is there... yep, "wrap it up Judge, I've got to get more COWBELL!" My thing will only take about 2 minutes- maybe I can ask to go first so I can spend more time looking for COWBELL.:rotfl: My mom's already looked at that Target and there were none, but they could have a new shipment, right?!
How are we going to make it through this week?!

Greetings fellow Race Team members -
Well, IBM isn't getting their money's worth out of me this week. I'm so scattered! I can't even think straight. :upsidedow This morning at breakfast I was eating away, minding my own business, when suddenly I started crying like a baby, jabbering away. Poor Charlie was like "What? I can't understand you. What about Lily??" I was trying to tell him I was scared of the start so I have to find Lily because I don't want to be alone. Ten minutes later I was washing dishes singing away. If I wasn't tapering I'd be getting a diagnosis for some mental disorder I am sure.
Here's a short story of my weekend. Friday night my stepdaughters came up (Emily,12 & Lauren,13) Emily had a wicked head cold and Lauren had a violent stomach virus. :headache: As much as I wanted to send them both back home, I could not. So I started downing the fizzy Airborne. On Saturday I was getting a bad stomache ache so I put off my L/R until Sunday. I was really sick and thought I was getting what Lauren had. Until I realized that Airborne has Sorbitol, which gives me serious...."gastric distress". So I stopped with the Airborne fizzys and started on the vitamin C and Airborne gummies. I feel much much better now and think I have staved off the cold too. But I'll keep megadosing the C just in case.
I got in six miles on the TM yesterday, while watching Wild Hogs. OMG that was a funny movie! :lmao: Anyway, guess I'm as ready as I ever will be. Three more TM sessions of 30 min each and then BRING IT ON!
"Ain't no stopping us now, we're on the move. Ain't no stopping us now, we got the groove!"
:woohoo: :woohoo:
Carrie - I am breaking your Short Post Rule. ;) I'm not even going to bother trying to do any work so I'll just DIS all day!
Terri - It will be my pleasure to be twins with you this weekend. I'm going for comfort, so I won't win any style points, but who cares, I'm going for the bling, whatever it takes!
Dana - OMG! I'm glad everyone is OK.
Martha - Continued and multitudinous
Craig - Oh I'm so happy to read your post! Come on Craig, I NEED you there! You're my running mentor! I need you to be well. (OK, how selfish is that?)
Kristi - OK, well, when I see you in a couple of days you can tell me what REALLY happened in Vegas. popcorn:: Of course I remember how you got me a medal! My goodness I would never forget that! In all my life I don't think I have EVER encountered as much kindness and concern as I did immediately after my first ever long-distance event!!
Awww Howard, thanks for trying to make me have a happy taper. It's kinda working. :flower3:
Matt - Thanks for making the corral thread. :thumbsup2 Charlie keeps asking me who else will be in his corral. I told him to get a DIS screen name, for crying out loud! What am I? His coach? Geez. Anyway, thanks!

Morning guys! I am finally back home. After 30 hours of flying, one lost suitcase (with my good Aussie wine) that luckily showed up the next day....finally I'm back. I got some good runs in on my trip to Singapore and Perth. I'm not sure how much running I'll get in this week - maybe just a light jog tomorrow. My mom was coming down with a cold when we left Perth and now I'm worried I caught it too. Sore throat a bit, so I'm downing Vit C. May go buy some Cold-FX today to be safe.
Leaving on a red eye Wednesday night so I can be in line and at the expo when it opens on Thursday. I won't be able to make the POP meet on Friday as we have dinner ressies at 5 pm, but I'll look for you guys at the start on Saturday and Sunday!

Tricia -- :woohoo: on the additional training this weekend! WHERE do you find your energy?
I got in NO training this weekend! I worked Saturday and Sunday in the hopes of making this week more manageable, and we got in some cross-training with packing up all the Christmas decorations and the Spode. The house is now in good enough shape so that I won't be totally embarassed when our adopted daughter comes to stay with Andrew. YAY!!!
Oh, and the other bit of cross-training this weekend was trying NOT to laugh during the "karaoke" portion of the bridal expo Howard and I attended yesterday -- our very first one!! :bride: I am thinking we'll both enjoy the EXPO we attend later this week SO much more!!!
Oh, and happy, happy news!!!! DD19 has decided she will train this year to do the 1/2 Marathon next year!! :woohoo: I am sooooooo proud of her for deciding to undertake the challenge. She has NO illusions about the time commitment and I am really excited that she is doing somethign so awesome at her age. She is going to train and wogwith her best friend (since before they were 2!), who is said "adopted daughter." Judy – yeah, sure, NOW you tell Charlie to get a screenname. In the meantime, SOME of us have spent the last 6 or so months TERRIFIED that he would get a screenname and stumble upon your “surprise cruise” thread. I had some sleepless nights over that, my dear!
She is going to train and wogwith her best friend (since before they were 2!), who is said "adopted daughter." Jenn is really even more excited about this weekend, now that she is thinking about what she will be working towards next year. :cool1:

Taper madness -- I now "get it". My mind jumps all over; my stomach is in knots; I am glad I'm not alone!
Today is DH's bday so I've got to clean the house and make dinner for 13 people! Too bad for them I'm not able to stay on task at all -- like why am I DISing right now?!? Hope they all like pizza.
I did a 5 mile run today and it stunk. I was HOT as it was sunny and in the 60's and it has been much cooler. That worries me for marathon weekend, but at least now I know that what to wear! I just hope it's overcast on Sunday. (But not raining.) I think I'm going to quit checking the weather forecasts; they are just freaking me out.
Rambling - sorry Carrie! I am just :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

Hey Team - I am leaving bright and early tomorrow morning for San Diego, so I won't be online for a bit. I then take the redeye on Thursday, get in bright and early Friday morning in Orlando... race to POFQ to meet the family and hopefully shower and then off to the kids races. I should be at the POP meet as long as the flight actually arrives Friday morning (I have bad luck with delays and cancellations... so bad that people are scared to fly with me!).
Happy tapering!!!!

I just think I'm in shock! I will do my best, I will do my best to keep up and not be crazy wild! I will keep in mind that DID NOT FINISH > DID NOT START.
I started. I wont stop trying!
I did 3 miles today (outside, in CHICAGO - in JANUARY!! 62 deg - that doesnt take into account the wind chill however!! lol It is windy!!) it took me 50 min! and I just didnt want to run anymore!
DH keeps saying "are you sure you wont want to do this next year?" :rotfl2: Bless him!! Sorry to say next year in Disney in Jan is out of the question!! First born DS is getting married!! Incentive for me to work towards the CDC in August!!

Hi everyone!! Sooooooo excited... Just wanted to pop in and say HI!!
For those looking for Dave.. he and his pretty princess are already en route to Disney. There was a thread somewhere along this route that said he would be out of touch for a bit. So.. I am sure we will be hearing from him as soon as he hits some internet service.. Hmmmm... ALTHOUGH Vic did mention something about alerting the authorities... LOL!!!

Took me awhile to figure out why you were going to a bridal expo (being of the male persuasion these words can strike fear in me). Unless I missed something (which is a large and very good possibility), I am going to presume it has something to do with your signature. In which case I am glad you had fun and you will have to reenact the karaoke part on Friday for everyone. :rolleyes1

Sadie will be 7yrs old in March. We adopted her 2 yrs ago to be a companion for our then 2 yr old golden Keeper. Very sadly we had to take Keeper to the Rainbow Bridge last October due to multiple medical issues. We had no intentions of getting another puppy, but things just kind of worked out....retrievers have such sweet personalities, and Sweet Holiday Surprise (aka Holly or Miss Hollywood) is no exception. Makes up for those interrupted nights - although I have to admit she is doing remarkable well with the housetraining. I am sure she will be sleeping longer periods of time soon! At least that is what I am hoping!!

Thanks everybody for the kind words about Holly.
Sadie is a little leery of the puppy, which makes the picture of them together all the more precious. Soon after I snapped the picture Holly leaned over and started licking Sadie's ear, which then turned into nibbling, and Sadie was out of there in a hurry! I am sure she will warm up with time, her prior owners had dogs and cats, she is just not fond of the puppy peskiness!
Four years ago at Christmas we got Keeper as a puppy and the plan was that she was going to be my walking companion/motivation. Unfortunately by spring she'd had to have surgery on her front legs and while she recovered well she was only able to walk a mile or two at most at any one time. We got Sadie to be a companion for Keeper, but Sadie's prior owners never taught her to heel, and walking with her and Keeper was always an adventure (Keeper was also mostly blind). I am planning on training Holly to walk WITH me - I am always envious of the WISHers who train with their dogs!
Holly is short for Holiday (Christmas) and my DDs call her Miss Hollywood because she is already something of a diva!!

I'm not sure I'm in the right spot but I think I am! Room for a newbie?
DH and I, along with our best friends, are going to register for the Disney Half Marathon 2009. As a group of 4 we made Life Lists a few years back, things we wanted to accomplish together before we die (think Bucket List!). Anyway one thing on our friend's list was to do some sort of race together. Easy for them to say, they did a triathalon this summer and his wife has run the Boston Marathon. Me and my DH? Nada! :rotfl2: So this ought to be good.
I agreed to it if it were at Disney. I need to be in my Happy Place to get the motivation to do this. 2009 is the year 3 of the 4 of us turn 40 (my DH turns the big 4-0 this year) so it is really a milestone type of thing, turn 40, run your first race with your best friends and prove you CAN do this.
So here I am, hoping to tag along with some of you very inspiring, encouraging people for the year. I really hate exercise, I really do. I have never gotton to that place where one actually enjoys it.
Our friend has emailed us a training program of how much we should be able to do by the end of each week. Right now we are using our Gazelle as it has been cold and icy outside (we live in the Northeast). I thought maybe Gazelling (is that a word?) on a regular basis would build up some strength and endurance for when I really hit the pavement. Right now I've been doing 2 miles in about 24 minutes.
Anyway, hoping to read and learn and ACHIEVE this goal!
Allyson :)

Going with my music theme from the "nervous" thread, here's a gem:
"It's been a long road
Gettin from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near
I will see my dreams come alive at last
I will touch the sky
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No they're not gonna change my mind
Cuz I've got faith of the heart
Goin where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe
I can do anything
I've got strength of the soul
No one's gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star
I've got faith, I've got faith
Faith of the heart."
It's actually off the opening credits of Star Trek: Enterprise which only lasted 4 seasons, a remake of Faith of the Heart by Russell Watson. You can dooooooo it WISH'rs! :woohoo:

Someone is singing? Here's My song that gets me to the next mile!!
This is the moment!
This is the day,
When I send all my doubts and demons
On their way!
Every endeavor,
I have made - ever -
Is coming into play,
Is here and now - today!
This is the moment,
This is the time,
When the momentum and the moment
Are in rhyme!
Give me this moment -
This precious chance -
I'll gather up my past
And make some sense at last!
This is the moment,
When all I've done -
All the dreaming,
Scheming and screaming,
Become one!
This is the day -
See it sparkle and shine,
When all I've lived for
Becomes mine!
For all these years,
I've faced the world alone,
And now the time has come
To prove to them
I've made it on my own!
This is the moment -
My final test -
Destiny beckoned,
I never reckoned,
Second Best!
I won't look down,
I must not fall!
This is the moment,
The sweetest moment of them all!
This is the moment!
Damn all the odds!
This day, or never,
I'll sit forever
With the gods!
When I look back,
I will always recall,
Moment for moment,
This was the moment,
The greatest moment
Of them all!
(and btw I'm old, Donny Osmond sings this - I heart Donny!!) :rotfl:

good thing Carrie asked us to keep is short and sweet--as there were 3 pages for me to read since this morning!;)
Well, my hairdresser had to reschedule for Wednesday afternoon, so I'm all worried about that. I'm sure (due to taper madness I"m sure) that she's gonna butcher my hair and I'll look like a complete dufus this weekend. Guess that's what the WISH visor is for, right?
I'm also having race attire anxiety again. I've decided that it will most likely be too warm for me to run in my ss WISH shirt. I've run in it at both ToT and Minnie last year and was too hot. But, I"ve yet to run in my WISH tank.....so the dilemma is, do I chance running in the tank, or maybe I'll just wear a tank I've worn before and just go with the WISH hat. Decisions, decisions....and yes, I haven't started a lick of packing yet! We head down that road tonight.

Allyson -- :welcome: YAY!! Another WISH team member! How great to have you here! Get ready for the most fulfilling year of your life! :goodvibes
Oh, I LOVE when we share song lyrics. Here is one of my current favorites:
This is My Moment (performed by Jordin Sparks)
There was a time I packed my dreams away.
Living in a shell, hiding from myself.
There was a time when I was so afraid.
I thought I'd reached the end,
But baby that was then
I am made of more than my yesterdays.
This is my now, and I am breathing in the moment.
As I look around
I can't believe the love I see.
My fears behind me, gone are the shadows and doubt
That was then, this is my now.
I have to decide,
Was I gonna to play it safe.
Or look somewhere deep in side,
Try to turn the tide,
And find the strength to take that step of faith.
This is my now, and I am breathing in the moment.
As I look around
I can't believe the love I see.
My fears behind me, gone are the shadows and doubt
That was then, this is my now.
And I have the courage like never before, yeah.
I've settled for less now I'm ready for more,
Ready for more.
This is my now, and I am breathing in the moment.
As I look around I can't believe the love I see.
My fears behind me, gone are the shadows and doubt
That was then, this is my now.
I'm living in the moment
I look around I can't believe the love I see.
My fears behind me, gone are the shadows and doubt
That was then, this is my now.
This is my now.
The bolded lyrics scream "WISH team love & support" to me.

You made it! You're on your way! Have FUN and enjoy the weekend, especially your race. :cheer2: Go team!
Not that I'm emotional this week or anything, but had to wipe the tears after reading this one...

Hi Team..
Since we're doing the song lyrics thing ;)...I just HAD to add what I believe to be the single greatest running song (especially DISTANCE running song) EVER. This guy just HAS to be talking about running :). Enjoy.
Reason to Believe by Dashboard Confessional
Oh sweet lungs don't fail me now
Your burning has turned into fear
It drills me in my every step, I'm moving quick
But you're always on my heels
Just one more breath, I beg you please
Just one more step, my knees are weak
My heart is sturdy but it needs you to survive
My heart is sturdy but it needs you
Breathe
Don't you want to breathe
I know that you are strong enough to handle what I need
My capalaries scream
There's nothing left to feed on
My body needs a reason to cross the line
Will you carry me there one more time
Steady lungs, don't fail me now
I feel you bursting, but you wont let me die
Fill me up with every step, I'm feeling sick
But I'm leaving it behind...
Just one more breath I beg you please
Just one more step my knees are weak
My legs are sturdy but they need you to survive
My heart is sturdy but I need you....
Breathe
Dont you want to breathe
I know that you are strong enough to handle what I need
My capalaries scream
Theres nothing left to feed on
My body needs a reason to cross the line
Will you carry me there once more
I have reason to believe
That I have victories to taste
I can feel them on my teeth
Upon my lips
And in my chest
I can roll them on my tongue
They are more supple than defeat
I feel the tension in my lungs
And every move is filled with my resolve to....
Breathe
Dont you want to breathe
I know that you are strong enough to handle what I need
My capalaries scream
Theres nothing left to feed on
My body needs a reason to cross that line
Will you carry me there one more time

What a day we've had. Got the call this morning that FIL died during the night. He was not sick, and his death was totally unexpected. DH was not close to his father, but it's still hard. Hopefully the autopsy will provide some answers. DH is working on the funeral arrangements, which will depend on when the autopsy is completed. We should know tomorrow whether I will be able to make it to WDW this weekend or not.
All I know is that I am FedExing all these cowbells and pom poms to Cam at BCV if I can't make it because there is no way I am taking them all back to Target! Imagine the looks that I will get. Who buys 20+ green cowbells and pom poms and then returns them?:dance3:

So from the 31 of October on it felt like all I was doing was selling Ipods and now all I am selling are Ipod accessories. Heather - I am very sorry to hear about your FIL.
I went to the gym tonight and ran 5 miles at a 10:10 Pace. I felt good and pushed it a bit. I managed the 5 miles in approximately 50 minutes. (I guess that would make sense, huh? :lmao: )
I am as ready for this crazy little thing called "Goofy" as I was last year. So I say - Bring it on! I am sure I'll need a little bit of this :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: too.

Heather please tell your dh we're thinking of him here, in Chicago, what a shock this must be for him, close, or not, its still unexpected.... and I have to tell you, you're attitude... so dear to this "stranger" - I am looking forward to using your cowbell on Sunday, thanks for thinking of us!!
Erin I was surprised to see lines at the ipod store in the suburb of Chicago a week after Christmas - what is everyone buying? Well glad I dont need/want it!!

Hi all! Posting now as I will not have time the rest of the day.
Well my trip is getting very interesting. Kids (and dog) were supposed to stay with my dad but now my grandmother (who just happens to be 103 years old) is not doing well so he'll be making a trip to be with her while I have scrambled to find some very generous friends to keep my kids (and dog). They're splitting up, so our whole family will be apart! I have not had two extra seconds to pack. I just decided I'm going to start getting up extra early -- may as well get used to it now! And then maybe the exhaustion will help me sleep at night.
All the song lyrics are great! I spent some time yesterday loading more songs into my marathon playlist, including more Christian music as I'm expecting I may need some help! I think I've got a little bit of everything on there.
It's almost time to start counting in hours instead of days!

Heather: Sorry to hear about your FIL. Sudden is always so tragic.
I managed 4.96 miles (yes I did not quite make 5 miles  ) in 60 minutes doing an interval run on the TM yesterday. I had an average pace of 12:14 which is acceptable to me at this stage. I want to be comfortable walking parts of the half course so I can enjoy the sites and sounds but I also want to finish in a respectable time (per myself of course). I packed all my half garb (skirt, top, pack, water bottle, shot bloks, phone, and anything else I thought I might carry) and looked like a pack mule at the gym but after much trial and error, I think I finally found my combination. Could I have waited any longer???? :rolleyes1
I am leaving for WDW tomorrow and have now moved from excited to officially nervous. This is my first half and I really don't feel prepared for it. It is also my first time leaving my family behind and I worry that DH will not fill my shoes very well. For those who do not know, I work at home and am around all the time and DH is gone all the time trucking wood. Taking deep breaths and trying to remember I am headed for the happiest place on earth!!!

Who buys 20+ green cowbells and pom poms and then returns them?:dance3:Heather- I'm very sorry to hear of the death of your FIL. How very shocking. All my sympathies go out to your family.

Heather - I am so sorry to hear about your FIL. Lots of  coming your family's way.
I am just a wreck lately. Hardly any training. I haven't packed. Shoot, I haven't unpacked from Vegas! I have no idea what to wear for the race since I have gained some weight and am not sure my shorts will fit. :sad2: My leggings are fine, but it looks like it's going to be too warm for that. I just hope I can have a semi-respectable finish. I just don't want to be in agony the next day working at the water stop!
I guess it is what it is & we'll see what happens come Saturday morning, huh?

Mel - I saw that new one. I figured something was coming out since prices were dropping. Good part is I don't think I really like the layout and how it operates. That may make it easier to skip.
Heather - Sorry to hear about FIL. :grouphug: We hope you will be able to make it but understand if it doesn't happen.
Erin - Good to see you back and know that you will be making it down. I figure you can just borrow some of your sisters training time and you will be fine.
Kristi - We hope you aren't in agony at the water stop either. It might be odd to have the volunteers throwing the cups of water at us because they can't stand up and hold them. :lmao:

Allyson- welcome!
So I expected to hit the Bite Me Zone around mile 17 or so of the full (and maybe 9 or so of the half). Guess what?! I'm a total over-achiever! I'm in the BMZ right now!! :lmao: No matter what I'm doing there's a continuous loop of "what ifs" running through my head... the latest was "if I have the camera, how will DH take pictures?" I resolved it by telling myself I'll get my mom to bring hers (or maybe pick up another camera at Target with COWBELL-- see, crazy thinking!) I can't stop the madness! ;)

Hey everybody, just checking in. This will probably short and sweet, I have zero concentration right now plus I am feeling a little   this morning. I just keep telling myself, this time Friday we'll be in Orlando!
Heather-- So sorry to hear about your FIL.
Carrie--Big Muppet fan right here! I have a best of cd and I listen to it all the time. Happy feet, I've got them happy feet. Give them a low down beat and they begin dancing.
Allyson--Welcome!!! Just a warning, we aren't usually this crazy, you caught us on a taper week! I can't remember when we booked our hotel for marathon weekend and the week after. I'm thinking it was late summer/early fall. We are staying at Saratoga Springs on points Sun-Thurs and didn't have problems booking there, but we are wait listed at the Boardwalk and so far that hasn't come through, I doubt at this point that it will. So if there's a resort you really want to stay at, then I suggest booking early.
Erin--Good to see you again! You are brave to work retail during the holiday season!
Jen GA--I think you'll be okay in the marathon, I really do. You have trained so well, plus you'll feel like you're flying not pushing a stroller! I hit the wall around mile 17, I think, in Asia in the AK. BUT I got hurt on mile 7 of the marathon (IT band blew up  ) and had to walk from mile 13 on. The marathon of course took a lot longer than I expected and it was HOT last year, everything hit me at once and I just broke down and cried. I think I cried the last 8 miles of the marathon! I'm really hoping and praying that everyone has a much better experience than I did!
Okay, so this post is a little longer than I expected, maybe talking to you guys keeps my mind off how my breakfast is sitting in my stomach! Hopefully I'll be good this weekend! :wizard:

I am completely losing my sanity. When I mentioned this to my running buddies today they LAUGHED at me! Evidently they think I lost my sanity last January when I signed up to run this thing.

30 min this morning and it didn't feel worth getting up early for. 30 min. Hu! That's nuttin'! :lmao:
As if tapering isn't enough to make me go postal, my tinnitus is raging and it's making me crazy! I really really hate this. I really do. :headache:
Stephanie - I got my hair cut this past weekend and asked her to cut my bangs a little shorter. She asked me why and I told her because I didn't want to have to wear a headband in the race and look like a dufus! You can see where my priorities are right now! OMG be safe!!!!
Jackie - I'll be easy to find Saturday morning. I'll be the one balling her eyes out with the shaking hands. :scared: OK newbies, don't read that! I am suddenly petrified that I will not have my husband with me at the start. Last year that was THE hardest part, the time between when the gun went off and we FINALLY crossed the start line. I panicked and told Charlie "I can't do this, I can't do this!" He told me to shut up and get going. God, I love him!
Vic - I was high and tight once, but I was much younger then....
MSDave - Call me on Friday when we are at PC and I'll pass you around! We'll all be WISHing you were there, but use your time at home wisely: start planning for the 2009 race! :thumbsup2
Heather -
Howard - You did 10:10 and only had to push it a bit? I'd be pushing it to death to get to that pace! You totally rock, Howard! But then, I already knew that. :thumbsup2
Kristi - Yes, that's it exactly and I said those words just last night. It is what it is. There is NOTHING we can do now that will make any difference. BTW I was going to bring a towel or something to sit on at WS#2. Since most of us will have done the Half the day before, and one of us will be standing for two, I kinda hope we can take turns sitting down for a few minutes at a time. I'm old, ya know. ;)

Okay, so we're all clear here. Looks like the big storm just missed us--we've not even had much rain. What bizzare January weather, it was 68 when I dropped DD off at school this morning and it will be a high in the low 50s tomorrow.
And, now, so of course I put off packing till the last minute and now I'm freaking out. Okay, so my running stuff is all together--but can't seem to find cute comfortable clothes for the rest of the trip. But guess I'll sacrifice some comfort as long as I look cute..hehehe gotta have the priorities straight. But I did realize that I have no vaseline (I'm not a body glide person), can't find the ponchos, and no travel detergent--off to Walmart I go this afternoon.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to be sure to say Thank You and to let everyone here know what a major part you've played in getting me ready for this marathon. When I started my training a year ago I wasn't sure if this old body would be able to handle the training or that I would have the time or motivation to get me prepared to run another marathon. You didn't exactly help me with the time, since I've spent a good number of hours reading these boards, but boy did you help me with the motivation!!!!! I'm not nearly good enough with words to describe how grateful I am to have found this thread. You have motivated me, encouraged me and inspired me. I haven't been able to keep up with all the posts nor have I had time to post as much as I'd like, but I've really appreciated being a part of this team. I'm disappointed I won't be able to make it to the Pop meet nor the Bakery, but I am hoping I can meet many of you along the course on Sunday or perhaps the party at Pleasure Island. Good luck to all of you in your races and travel safely to and from WDW.
It has been wonderful training with all of you.

Bill -- Jenn is very excited about meeting Timmy and Billy. DS14 already reminded her that I am a "baby hog" and she may have to fight to hold Timmy.
Jackie -- I told Jenn about your DD17 and we will look for you at POP.
Angie -- so glad you were able to work out the volunteering! Man, that water stop is going to be such fun! I wonder how I'll bring myself to keep going when I'll want to just hang out with you guys! ;)
I still have my lime green clappers that Carrie brought for all of us last year and I am bringing that, so we will certainly have a cacaphony (sp?) of sound scream teaming on Saturday and Sunday!
BTW, I know we have water stop #2 covered and I am counting on seeing Anne around miles 9, 12 and 18 & at mile 24 with all our other Y/BC scream team members, but I am really, really worried about miles 19-24. Is anyone going to be in that stretch that I can add to my "motivation list"? Knowing that we will be seeing WISHers at a particular point gave me so much to look forward to last year. :grouphug: I remember the stretch leading out to WWoS and then to MGM being rough. Am I remembering that correctly? (sorry, I hope I'm not freaking out any marathon virgins. ;) )

Well, I was going to start the Race Reports/Encouragement/Kudos thread tomorrow...but ya'll have started it already!! :dance3: I'll try and get it up later.
Cam, I'm looking at WWoS now, instead of AK for that very reason. We'll have SOME WISHers at AK, so maybe a WISHer at WWoS would be a good thing. That way I could drive to WWoS and not have to worry about a bus.
Vic, where do you FIND these things??!! :rotfl2:
I'll have my WISH shirt on at the Expo on Thursday afternoon. PLEASE come up and say, "Hi!" I know a lot of the newer people don't know me (that could be good thing..:rolleyes1 ), but I injured my foot in August and haven't been able to train until just two weeks ago! Hopefully, I'm back. There are four half marathons calling my name this year....

I am suddenly petrified that I will not have my husband with me at the start. Last year that was THE hardest part, the time between when the gun went off and we FINALLY crossed the start line. I panicked and told Charlie "I can't do this, I can't do this!" He told me to shut up and get going. God, I love him!
No worries, Judy! I will be there to tell you to shut up and get going! :lmao:
I am thinking though that we won't have time to sit down at the water stop with 5 bazillion runners/walkers going by.
We are going to be sweeping cups up for hours! :rotfl:
Chad said he's going to stay with me for the race and "take it easy" so he can have more umph for the Full.

This is the race website:

The Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon
carpe simiam. seize the monkey.
not flat. not fast. not certified. flying monkey attacks. you have got to be bananas.
saving the flying monkeys, one hill at a time
A Tough Little Run in the Park
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ours has become an age of flat and fast marathons on city streets and in urban jungles, with more focus on times, course certification, gadgets, charities and putting on a big show than on running. Many modern marathons have become spectacles rather than athletic events. But it was not always this way. Marathons used to be about running for the sake of running. They were about pushing oneself beyond the physiologic limits of the human body. While running.
The Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon is meant to be an antidote. It is a marathon that is about running. Running hard. Running over big and memorable rolling hills and through dense woods. Running with other like minded athletes. The Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon is about the joy and pain of running a unique, and uniquely challenging--some would say beastly--26.2 mile course in the beautiful and historic Percy Warner Park, nestled among the Middle Tennessee Harpeth Hills.
We will time and measure the distance, but the course will not be certified, we will not use timing chips, and it will not be a Boston qualifying event. If you get to the end and you (or your gadget) believe the route to be long, we won't charge you extra; if you believe it to be short, just keep running. There will be no bands, cheerleaders, wave starts or crowds. We promise no marathon Personal Records, but we guarantee every runner a PR - a Permanent Remembrance of a well-earned marathon finish. We promise to give you approximately 26.2 tough and memorable miles, with a total of 3500 feet of elevation gain and loss.
Come out and join us in Nashville. We look forward to seeing you.

**Mel** Good reminder as to why people should keep pace through AK.
On the bright side, the marathoners should be fairly safe this year as most of the monkies, tigers, etc. should still be full from the 5K. Of course, this doesn't include the gators that can be anywhere on property.

Cam - Since Timmy has grown a little (in height as well as weight), you may be looking forward to someone else holding him after a while. :lmao:
Mel - I hear that Mr. Panda might have some other zoo friends on the course taking care of the Purple People. The race sounds close to his location so it could well be true.
Vic - Sneaking out. Man I guess I should call and demand to speak to a supervisor immediately. ;)
Judy - I nominate you the queen to be Lead Volunteer. Then the rest of the non-Wishers may wonder if they are in the right place.

A bit of wisdom for all you marathoners who will be running through AK...
background...RunTex used to be (maybe still is, I don't know) one of the sponsors of the Austin marathon. I LOVE the saying on their running shirts...
"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: when the sun comes up, you’d better be running."

I'm leaving in the morning. Land at MCO around noon. Get car, stop at Publix, then on to SSR.
I'll be at Expo on Thursday afternoon. Either wearing a WISH or Disboards shirt. I also have my green wristband on (but not with black writing).
I'll be at AK Friday morning scream teaming for my friends. Can't wait to see everybody at Pop!
In case I don't make it back to the boards tonight, safe travels to everyone!

Hey everybody!
Well, since we had spring-like temperatures here in NJ this afternoon, I decided to go out for a short very easy run to try out the shorts I want to wear for the race on Sunday. I wore them in the summer a bit, but haven't worn them in awhile, so I wanted to make sure they were still OK.
I also wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone here on the WISH boards. this year has been an amazing experience for me, I never ever thought I would be able to get through it and I did and all that is left is the race! I know that I wouldn't have ever been able to do it without the encouragement of everyone here!! You guys are awesome!! I can't wait to meet everyone on Friday at POP.
DBF and I are leaving on Thursday night around 7, and we will be at the expo bright and early on Friday morning!
I hope everyone has safe travels heading to the World!!!!!!

about that lion and gazelle saying...:scared1:
I remembered about a year ago someone posted that you could get a Lime Green WISH tag at Hallmark Stores - got it!!
I'll be looking for green shirts, wrist bands, hats, visors,... etc - (How many days can we wear the WISH shirt???) Thurs at the Expo!! A few other Dis'ers suggested Beaches and Cream after the Expo!! (is that part of a pre race diet, or post race? This might be my training trials!)

Hi - I've been lurking here for a bit since my husband and I just decided to run our first half-marathon next January at WDW! I've been a runner off and on (more off than on!) for the past year, and Tom has been a runner off and on (more off than on!) for about 15 years - so we thought this would give us the extra motivation we are looking for. I am very excited and nervous! It's been fun and inspiring to read your posts as so many of you prepare to run this weekend, and I love how you cheer each other on.
Anyway, I wanted to say hi now so that I could say
GOOD LUCK to all of you running in WDW this weekend!

Thanks, Bill! Sorry I didn't get here in time to clarify what I meant. That "hairpin" turn before you double back to the ramp to MGM was kind of tough for me because we saw the sweeper bus there and were barely ahead of where we needed to be to avoid being swept. It was shortly thereafter that Rhonda and I stopped for a potty break and came out to find that they had opened the road and there was literally no one left behind us until we ran a bit and started passing a few participants. EEK!!!!! Okay, I really, really didn't mean to freak anyone out. DEFINITELY staying ahead of the sweepers this year!

I'm heading out of NJ Thursday morning. :cool1: CANNOT WAIT!!!
So today I did 3 hours of pilates. Taught two classes plus met with my trainer...that's taper?! ;)
BUT...I also work for a yoga/massage studio and get free massage. Yeah...ok...not free...I teach pilates and thus I get free massages instead of pay. Not a bad deal when you're training for a marathon! Anyway...they squeezed me in today and my friend did 45 minutes of leg massage. OMG. I feel SOOO ready. I felt so good that I scrapped my run. Guess I'll head out for an easy 3 miler tomorrow. I just couldn't bear to run on those freshly stretched and massaged legs. I know..I know...I'm totally spoiled. But I am working for massage. Hmmm....that sounds odd a little :confused3 . NM ;).
Angie: I think we can safely say that we no longer NEED MORE COWBELL :). WTG...THANK YOU!!!
Renee: PD for the back ache :(. That needs to GO AWAY. Maybe it's just stress??? Nerves??? Take it easy! Stretch, ice and rest as much as is humanly possible.

Renee - Couldn't believe it when I found one last green cowbell at the Target on Capital Blvd. I was sure you'd already hit that one! I'd already bought two at North Hills figuring I was ahead of you there. Hope your backache goes away soon.

Kira - :welcome: The next year will be a blast!
Can't get anything done. Am obsessing about what I haven't thought of yet. Have been printing out posts about where to scream team for the half to give to DH so he has some idea before he meets everyone Friday night and is overwhemed!

I always have the worse luck not being prepared for the weather in Orlando.
Anyway with all the silliness going on it reminded me I TOTALLY forgot to tell you guys what happened at RFTT. While I was watching at the finish two WISH team members crossed the line with their WISH shirts on (don't remember who) and the DJ's said: "OH look, the MAKE A WISH foundation came out for the race today." :lmao: :lmao:
At first I was thinking OH MY GOODNESS what is wrong with those people, then I just thought it was funny. Wonder what they will have to say this time?

Heather - I agree with you. That out and back is torture!:scared1: I consider it my personal "wall". I, too, though when am I ever going to turn around and come back. Seeing all those people who already made the turn-around was making me green with envy.
Bill - Thanks. I misunderstood and thought they meant we ran by/thru WWoS. Couldn't picture it for the life of me. Was getting scared that I forgot the course.
I'm finally packed, but still have that "I forgot something feeling" :confused3. Got to go to bed. Have to get up in 4 hours.
I know I won't be on-line anymore. See you all at the Expo/Pop!
Good luck to everyone and safe travels!

Good morning!:surfweb:
I guess I'll be one of the last ones to get there. Our flight out of BWI leaves at 2:04 pm on Friday. We land at 4:10 pm, get the car, and head straight for the expo. Hope to be checking at the BWV by 7:00.
Ugh. I'll be going crazy here all alone. :worried: :( ;)
Safe travels, everyone.

I know I haven't been around in a while, but 16 pages?!? And it's Wednesday?!?
So, after a couple of close calls, it looks like I'll be making it to the races this weekend after all!! :cool1:
After doing some really really poor training after the move and just sort of lacking in the motivation department, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to make it (again) for the Goofy this year. As in cancelled my hotel reservations pretty sure.
Somehow last weekend, I got the bug and well..... suffice it to say, I'm coming!! The darn races are paid for, I found an AP rate at All Star Music two days ago and got the OK from my boss yesterday so... I'm coming!!! I'm leaving right from work tomorrow evening, so I should be at the world tomorrow night. Anyone else going to the Expo Friday morning??
So right now I am a little bit freaking out... I'm going to need all the WISH support I can get-- I'm very very undertrained, I have yet to pack anything or even check the weather, I'm not sure my fuel belt still fits or if I have enough GU, I never did get my packet so I have no idea about corrals or numbers (but have been assured by the WWoS people that I will have no problems getting my numbers....)..... obviously I have work to do tonight...
I will be at Pop Friday (4pm right??), but I have to be at work at noon Monday back here, so I'll be headed out before the Boardwalk Breakfast.
And I know that I've just skimmed the posts.... but green cowbells??
Safe travels for those leaving today and take a nice deep breath for those who are not....

Kevin - OMG! You almost didn't amke it again? That would have been totally unacceptable! ;) We'll be going to the Expo as soon as we check in at the hotel. Probably around noon? E-mail me if you want ot try to meet and go together.
Kira - Welcome!!!! Look forward to gettign ot know you next year! DOn't let this crazy week scare you. Be sure to check out our post race reports. They will inspre you (and eb much calmer).
I still have clappers that I will eb bringing, but I think there will eb no need as there will be a cowbell in every hand. :rotfl:
BTW, teh out adn back isn't half bad if ThunderMAtt is screaming at you from across teh way! :goodvibes

Wow! So I go out of town for one day and I miss 7 pages of posts! We're not in taper mode, are we??
Kevin--glad you're going to be able to make it. Krista and I will also be at the expo early Friday afternoon, but I'm not sure exactly when. So that's probably not too much help to you, huh? :)
Can I just say that I CAN'T WAIT TILL FRIDAY!!!! :cool1: I would think that these last two days are going to just drag on, but we still haven't packed and I have a 4 hour drive home from Cleveland this afternoon, plus I should probably get a run or two in, drop Hines off at "camp," etc, etc, etc. So I'm pretty sure these two days will go by a little quicker than I want them to.
Can't wait to see all you guys Friday night! I feel bad for the poor, unsuspecting other guests at the POP who are overtaken by lime green shirts, enough cowbells to wrap around the earth twice, pom-poms, huge WISH signs and about a hundred chatty, nervous marathoners. :)
Have a great day, all!

Thanks Krista, what time do you arrive in MCO?
I am leaving Friday morning and arrive in MCO at 1:00 p.m. I am hoping I can check into POR, go to EXPO and then go straight to POP. I am catching Magical Express and sometimes that can really be delayed, but I hope everything works out.

Since my mind is mush and I can't find anything through google....
Does anyone know the avg. mins./mile pace to have a 3 hour half?
eta: about a 13:45?
I am thinking I am going to push myself (even with my lack of training) since this will probably be my last WDW half. For awhile anyway...

I think I am going crazy!! I have been trying my best to get the house straight and the rest of the packing done before we go to bed tonight... That way we can leave at 9am tomorrow and be ready to go!! I can't concentrate on it though. I can suffer through about 15 minutes then I am back here checking the computer again. The worst part?!.... is that ALOT of people have left already and there isn't alot of conversation going on around here!! So I keep refreshing the page hoping someone has posted. That's the down side to living so close to WDW... I don't have to leave until the last minute!!
Question... for those of you still here. Saturday I really want to cheer on our WISHer's participating in the half. I would like to go the TTC and cheer from there... then maybe to the 12 and cheer from there. However... I have no clue how to get from All Star Sports to the TTC. Will there be buses specifically for the Spectators? What time do they start running? I have tried finding the information in the packet and on the website but can't find anything. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dana-- I am still here! Tomorrow is my last down. I am going crazy too, work is not keeping my attention and tomorrow is going to be evern worse!
When I cheered for the half I always drove to Epcot before the roads closed (I think they close at 5:20-5:30) and then took the monorail to the TTC. But I doubt you want to get up that early!!! I think there are spectator buses, but I have never used them. Hopefully someone will have better answers than I did! :)

Dana - for the full, I usually cheer on Main St. or the GF, then catch a bus at TTC to go to AK. I would imagine you can do the same sort of thing for the Half. I think Carrie is going from Main St. to Epcot... And maybe check with Anne, she will be scream teaming too.
Bill - I don't think I will do the WDW half again. Maybe the 5k. It is just too darn hard to train (esp. LRs) during the holidays. I will just have to settle for things like the Minnie, RFTT or ToT. I should really branch out and do races in other places too.
Sandy - thank you!!!!
Ok, time to leave work and go home to pack!

OMG, pack....I haven't really started to pack and my flight leaves tonight. I am at work downing tea to help stave off this cold and trying to get some stuff done before the work day ends. I did remember to put my AP, my race packet and some Body Glide on top of the suitcase though. My mind keeps wandering, so maybe next time that happens I'll start on my packing list!
Went to see the chiro for a last round of ART for my piriformis to make sure it is in check for the long plane ride and race.
Can I say I'm getting more scared of this race by the minute?

So...um....I've never actually run in my WISH shirt.... By the time it arrived I needed colder gear. So am I just asking for a problem if I do wear it for the full?

Leana - If it's a tank, tehy are very loose and I *think* you should eb ok. Try it on at least. The others have mroe areas that could be possible problems adn it's doesn't seem worth teh risk. JMO. BTW, you will be fine. WOrse case, you will fall back to us and we will keep you going!
Dana - OMG, you have it bad! Been there. I was one of 3 left last year on Fridya and maybe less in 06. Trust me, I feel your pain. I'll still be here until tomorrow night too! BTW, I think after about 5:30, the spectator buses only go to Epcot. BUT, you can monrail from there. If you wanted to be out and about earlier, tehy would go direct to TnT. HTH!

Dana - I am planning on screaming for the half at TTC. My plan is to get on a spectator bus around 5:00 and head for Epcot then take the monorail. Last year my kids took a spectator bus to Epcot around 5:20. I have NEVER been able to get a concrete spectator bus schedule. (I will probably be so anxious about missing it that I'll be out there at 4:30!)
Nerves are taking over. Still one more day of work. This afternoon I'm concentrating on getting everything ready for my kids here. Tomorrow afternoon it's packing time!
Safe travels, all!
