Why no avatars?

Why can't we have avatars on these boards? Is it for technical reasons?

I am not a happy bunny because I liked mine and it took me ages to work out how to get one. (I still haven't worked out how to do the signature bit either).

I am very pleased to have found everyone again though - even though it has taken me 3 days!!
