Help! I can't seem to post photos...

Help Please!! I can't seem to post photos from smugmug! When I click "copy link" and then paste - all that comes up in post is a "link" to my smugmug photo. The photo itself does not come up in the post. Can someone tell me what I "should" be doing! I'm pretty sure that I'm missing a step somewhere!:confused3

When you paste your smugmug link, you need to tell the system that you want it to appear as an image instead of a link. And you do that with a very complicated series of html codes that only advanced computer programers know how to do. . . . just kidding. You just need to put a little tag before and after your link, a before and a at the end.

So it would look like this on your screen your smugmug link here but when you post it, we see the actual photo.

For some reason, I never pay attention to those buttons in quick reply mode. I guess I just assumed that the OP likes to do things the hard way like me.

All right, I have never had luck with this and have avoided posting altogether so nobody is subjected to the x in a box icon that results from a screwup. Here's my attempt. If the x shows up, I hope someone can help me out :confused: . Thanks!

This is an awesome photo - a little green with envy at the moment! On smugmug, where do you find the "sve the image location" button? When I click "share photos" my choices are email or forum - I click forum, then it's all "copy link" buttons - no "save the image location" choices? TIA!:)

k, back to reality. As to copying your image in smugmug.
Ignore smugmug options for copying. If you put your mouse on your chosen pic and then left click your mouse you should see a little list of options of how you can save the pic. One of those is "save image location" that's the one you're saving.
After saving your image location go to the icon box at the top of the reply screen here on the DIS and paste what you've saved in the the box or you could paste it right into the reply box with IMG in brackets around it putting/ in the end bracket. I find it easier just to paste it into the image icon up at the top.

I know I'm doing something wrong still - when I left click on my photo the only thing that happens is that it gets bigger!:confused3 I get no menus at all. Do I need to be in a particular viewing format (smugmug, traditional, thumnails,etc) in order for this to work? Sorry I'm having so much trouble with this! I've had my coffee this morning, so the brain "should" be functioning!!!:rotfl:

Yeah, a box should pop up with "http://" in it. What browser or version of windows are you using? Maybe that is a concern? I'm not that technically advanced to give you any answers on that though. Others here are much better than me at that. Plus, I'm still having my coffee so my brain isn't quite with me yet.. :lmao:

Deb, when I right click my photo in smugmug, I get a menu, but the option your suggesting is not one of them. I get "Save Target As..." which saves it to my desktop, I get "Save Picture As..." which saves it in My Photos? There is no "save image location" Is it because I have the basic smugmug account? Perhaps it's not one of my perks?:confused3

Beautiful pic!!! So glad you're able to post it. I figured out the problem Internet Explorer:) I use a version of Netscape but have IE on my puter. I tried right clicking using my IE it gave me the window you have been getting. By copying you've done it!!

Now, I have only had one success to date (2, if there is a picture of a tiger in this message) but here's what I did: Opened a photo on smugmug, clicked the box that says "share photo", then clicked the button that says "copy link" next to forum/blogs, finally pasted that into the Insert Image box that comes up here on the reply menu & erased one of the http//'s.
