In Carlsbad (near Legoland):
Mexican - Fidel's Norte or Las Olas
Pizza - Sammy's Woodfire Pizza
Fun Atmosphere - Ruby's Diner
Seafood - Pelly's (very small fish market and casual restaurant) or Fish House Vera Cruz

Very close to LL is Karl Strauss. They are a local brewery but the atmosphere is very family-friendly and great food. We went there after our last visit to LL and it was great.
Close to the zoo is the Corvette Diner-- a San Diego institution! Really fun place with great food.

When we go to Legoland, we always have dinner at Soup Plantation. It's a buffet place with a lot of variety and the prices are great.

Old Town San Diego has a great outdoor Mexican place called Casa de Pico. Plus you can look through old town and look through the little shops.

Casa De Pico has moved to a location further east, and the restaurants in Bazaar Del Mundo (a little section of old town) are under new mgmt. and not nearly as good as the old ones. But there are some other good restaurants in Old Town-- shop in Bazaar Del Mundo, eat someplace else in OT.

I work at a Marriott right by LegoLand, and Karl Strauss is our #1 recommended place to eat, and everyone has rave reviews about it. I personally also like it :)
Ruby's Diner is very close to Legoland and is very kid friendly and has great food. It's 50's style and there's old trains and toys in there. They get little Ruby's hats and fun coloring mats. On busy days there is a balloon animal maker for free.
A good Mexican place near Legoland is Fidels and it's delish! It's on Carlsbad Village Drive.
The Corvette Diner is fun as well. Lots of good Japanese places downtown too.
