It's been so nice meeting so many people who "lurked" for a long time but have finally said "hello". I have a feeling, though, that for everyone who has stepped forward to say hi, there are many more people still uncertain. I just wanted to acknowledge you too.
Don't be afraid...to all our silent friends out there....we would love to meet you. Isn't today the day you come out and introduce yourself???:grouphug: :grouphug:

Rosie, thanks for the invite to stop by and say hello. :wave2:
“Coming out” wouldn’t apply to me, but I do lurk occasionally when I see a thread on the main board that catches my attention. I’ve always admired the sense of community and respect for fellow posters on this board – traits that are lacking sometimes on the CB.
Nice meeting you. Hope it’s ok to visit de-lurked in the future.

I love to spend time on this board, but my quiet nature apparently transfers to here too...I'm much more likely to read than to post.
Okay, I'm off to huddle under my blanket again- it's currently 6 degrees here in CT. (How many days until I'm at Disney and enjoying nice warm weather? Too many!!)

Hi, my name is Traci, and I'm a lurker.
I'm a straighty, but my brother is gay. He is my absolute best friend in the world. We've always been the closest out of the siblings. I couldn't love him anymore than I do. Having a gay brother does have many benefits. We love going out in West Hollywood together. Hearing how "fabulous" you are never gets old ;) .
One of my friends once told me that I'm a gay man magnet. I just think that they are comfortable around me and want to be friends with someone they can be themselves around.
I also have a GBF (gay best friend). I met him last year at school and when he told me he had a secret to tell me, I already knew what it was (good gaydar). I've introduced my brother and him but unfortunately they didn't hit it off.
Ummm, I think that's about it. Nice to meet you all!
We don't post enough to be regulars - but not sure we lurk much either....but what the heck...

Another lurker here. Hello all!
I first came over here when Disney starting offering Fairy Tale Weddings to all. There was a thread going on the topic on the cruise board (my DIS home) which took a nasty turn and was deleted. I was loving the romantic stories and remebered some of our cruise meet friends mentioning this board and thought "well I bet they are talking about it too" and popped over to lurk. Soooo many great stories were on that thread. Yeah I have been lurking and enjoying this group ever since.
So should I introduce myself???? I am Hadley, one of those CSPs StormTigger reffered to (at least I hope I qualify for the cool part:rotfl: ). Myself and my DH are in our mid 30s and have two lovely kiddos. DD just turned 11 and DS just turned 9. We all LOVE WDW and DCL. I am a homeschooling mom which is where most of my non travel energy goes. Dave (DH) is an engineer. We all four enjoy community theatre (Dave and I were most recently part of the enseble in Pippin and the kids are hoping to get parts in an upcoming produciton of Pan--well I am hoping too, Dave is out of the running because he is the fly supervisor).
DD (MArika) is way too smart and too tall for 11. She reads constantly and loves karate and Girl Scouts. She will be testing for her brown belt this month.
DS (Rio) really, really loves theatre and also dance. He is taking ballet, tap and jazz this year.
So that is me and my family. Thanks for luring me out of lurkdome. And thanks for being the awesome group that you are to lurk around:)
Oh, and Hi to Nicholas and Mike:) How've you been since the repo? Nice to see you posting somewhere.

But knowing how quickly evryone included me in made me want to encourage others to open up and show themselves.

My partner and I have been together for about 3 1/2 years and we couldn't be happier (unless we could legally get married of course)!! We have full custody of my two kids from my previous marriage. We all will be participating for Gay Days 2008. We'll actually be there for 12 days!! Currently live in NC and really loving this warm January weather (69°)!!! Hmmmmm...somehow I've missed the y'all/ya'll/yall discussion...Here is what Wiki has to say on the subject:
Y'all, sometimes misspelled as "Ya'll", "Yawl", or "Yaw", and archaically spelled "You-all", is a fused grammaticalization of the phrase "you all". It is used primarily as a plural second-person pronoun, and less often as a singular second-person pronoun. Commonly believed to have originated in the Southern United States, it is primarily associated with Southern American English, African American Vernacular English, and some dialects of the Western United States.[1]

[edit] Usage
There are currently six recognized[not in citation given] properties that y'all follows[2]:
1. a replacement for plural you
* Example: "Y'all can use the internet at the same time"
2. an associative plural, including individuals associated but not present with the singular addressee
* Example: "We're free after 10," John says. "Y'all can come over at around 10:30," Chris replies.
o Chris explains to John that he and John's friends, who are not present at the time, can come over at around 10:30. Chris is speaking to John, but treats John as a representative for others (i.e. his friends).
3. an institutional plural addressed to one person representing a group
* Example: "Y'all sell the best candies in the south, Mrs. Jo Jelly."
o Y'all is received by Mrs. Johnson who is the representative of a small candy business
4. an unknown potential referent
* Example: At the sky, Alex yells "Y'all can't beat me!"
o Alex is yelling at an unknown party
5. a form used in direct address in certain contexts (e.g., partings, greetings, invitations, and vocatives)
* Example: "Howdy, Y'all"
o A greeting that addresses a multitude of people without referencing a singular identity comprising that multitude
6. a stylistic choice distinct in tone (e.g., in intimacy, familiarity, and informality)
* Example: "You all look tough, but y'all aren't!"
o Y'all enables a quick three-syllable clause that is easier to say than "but you all aren't."
Y'all is also used in the phrase "all y'all", which is a more inclusive form comparable to "all of you". This can cause some amusement as "all y'all" can be interpreted as "all of you all". Note that we can be used as the first-person analog of y'all for the first three properties listed above.
[edit] Origin
The true origin of the term is uncertain. It is a common belief that y'all was invented by people in the Southern United States as a replacement for "you all" due to its convenience.[citation needed] Rather than say you all, you-uns, you lot, or you guys; y'all may be construed as a single element requiring only one morpheme. However, some argue that the stress pattern of y'all does not favor the contraction you+all because it would likely derive you'll instead of y'all.
Though the you all contraction argument may make sense when considering current-day vernacular, it is prudent to consider the vernacular which existed at the time which y'all was likely invented. By the late 1700s, Scots-Irish immigrants had settled in the Southern United States. It is well established that Scots-Irish immigrants frequently used the term ye aw. [3] Some evidence suggests that y'all could have evolved from ye aw due to the influence of African slaves who may have adapted the Scots-Irish term.[4]
The ye+aw origin may be apparent in a modern-day variation of y'all whereby some put the apostrophe after the 'a' (e.g. ya'll). This suggests that y'all could be a contraction for ya all. This is illustrated in the phrase "Ya'll come back now, ya hear!" in a recent[when? — see talk page] Best Western advertisement. [5]
The evolution of y'all continues today. There appears to be an increasing tendency, especially on the Internet, to spell it without the apostrophe, yall, which if it becomes common usage would make it a standard pronoun, rather like Dutch jullie. [3] HA! Ah repeats HA! Me 'n Uncle Cletus is jest ahead'o the curve on yall!
[edit] Controversy
There is also a long-standing disagreement about whether y'all can have primarily singular reference. While y'all is generally used in the Southern United States as the plural form of "you" a scant but vocal minority (for example, Eric Hyman[6]) argue that the term can be used in the singular. Adding confusion to this issue is that observers attempting to judge usage may witness a single person addressed as y'all if the speaker implies in the reference other persons not present: "Have y'all [you and others] had dinner yet?" (to which the answer would be, "Yes, we have", even though a single person has answered.)
It has been argued by one linguist that the singular y'all is in reality a polite form of address, corresponding to 'vous' in French, 'ustedes' in Spanish, and 'Sie' in German. [7]
H.L. Mencken argued that y'all or you-all cannot have a primarily singular reference, saying this
" is a cardinal article of faith in the South. ... Nevertheless, it has been questioned very often, and with a considerable showing of evidence. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, to be sure, you-all indicates a plural, implicit if not explicit, and thus means, when addressed to a single person, 'you and your folks' or the like, but the hundredth time it is impossible to discover any such extension of meaning."
– H.L. Mencken, The American language : an inquiry into the development of English in the United States, 1948, p.337

Hmmmmm...somehow I've missed the y'all/ya'll/yall discussion...Here is what Wiki has to say on the subject:
[FONT="Courier New"]Y'all, sometimes misspelled as "Ya'll", "Yawl", or "Yaw", and archaically spelled "You-all", is a fused grammaticalization of the phrase "you all". . .
p.s. ... HOWDY, Y'all, You-all, Yins (?!?!), Vosotros, Yous Guys!, Whatever!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I was an ENglish major/teacher and orginally hail from down south but have NEVER seen y'all discussed in such detail. Too funny:rotfl2:

I'm still getting to know the boards, I didn't even realize you guys were here until I saw "drum corps" and posted!

I was debating whether or not to say anything since posting on the LGBT forum would mean making a commitment about my sexuality, which I'm not willing to do at the moment.
 But what the heck? Hi! I'm Rebecca. Nice to meet you. I'm not sure where I stand, but I honestly don't care. Funny what a couple years of high school can do.

Hi, everyone...
Yeah, I'm really shy, soooo...
But, my best friend is lesbian. Her sister is bi. (Her) boyfriend is bi. My friend's stepsister is bi. My "friend" is gay.
And me? I'm bi. I just came out like, 3 weeks ago.
And in that time I have:
*Come out to most of my close friends
*Had my first relationship (first girlfriend)
*Had my first kiss
*Aforementioned girlfriend broke up with me (this Thursday, and I'm still very sad :( )
*Came out to my parents
Wow...
Oh Oh...HI!!!!!!!
Hope everyone is well today.

I thought I had already posted and said, "Hello", but I guess not. Well, better late than never I guess! :flower3: Hi to everyone out there. :wave2:  DP and I have been together 11 years and have 2 little princesses together. I found this place when searching for info on our upcoming disney trip in May and consequently became hooked (who am I kidding...addicted!). Anyway, there seems to be a great bunch of people out there and this forum in particular always seems to make me laugh with all the kind hearted bantering going on...just like one, big, happy family! OK, I'm going to go now before I get scolded for all the run on sentences or use of improper punctuation! :lmao:

Hello! Looks like I'm a little late on this thread. I'm the first half of our designation and the Disney lover/vacation planner. My partner lets me book everything (so I get what I want), and he just goes along. Our last Disney trip was about 18 months after we met; our first vacation together. We celebrate our 17th anniversary in April  . Things that were installed at Disney World since our last visit, have already been refurbished! We're booked at the Beach Club the week before Thanksgiving this year. :cool1:

Back in High School, my French teacher was southern. She'd walk into the classroom and say, "Bonjour, Y'all!"
After years of studying French in Canada, I found myself in a French class in the US. I was so confused when I heard the following translation:
Je - I
tu - you
...
vous - y'all
So, I'm gathering from this conversation, that it must have meant the prof was southern?

Hey all,
I've posted a couple of times before, but usually I just lurk. I am straight but definitely not narrow. I have have two very close relatives who are gay, and I work with many gay and lesbian clients in my counseling practice. Thus I like to pop over here when a topic catches my eye or when I want to spout off about something ridiculous like Amendment Two.
I live near the parks so I am there a lot and also work in as many Disney cruises as possible.

Hi everyone! De-lurking to say hello! I'm a single mom of a great 5 yr old and. My sexuality has been evolving over the last few years and I guess if i had to post a sticky on my forehead it would read 'bi' but my thinking is that i'm still in process and that sticky might change in time to 'gay'.
I love checking out the threads here, you are all so nice and non-judgemental, very refreshing!
