I posted something on the restaurants board, but I think my resort board friends may know more about the Poly of 1990.
When I was in college, I ate in a restaurant at the Poly that was just incredible! I THINK I got prime rib, but it may have been another type steak - I also got some Broccoli that was to die for - ordered seconds of that! I can't remember the name of the restaurant to save my life. What restaurants were at the Poly in 1990? Did Kona take this restaurants place perhaps?

I stayed at the Polynesian in 1991 for my honeymoon.
The restaurants I remember from then are:
* Papeete Bay Verandah (now 'OHana)
* Coral Isle Cafe (now Kona Cafe)
* Tangaroa Terrace (I think now it's just used as a meeting space)

I bet it was Tangaroa Terrace. If that is now used as a meeting space, it would seem to make sense ...I remember it being kind of wide-open - not much atmosphere. The food was soooo good. Do you think I'm right? Did they have steaks & veggies?

There was also a restaurant on the first floor of the GCH called the South Seas Dining Room...across from the main desk. It had a character breakfast and served beef and pork at a dinner buffet according to my 1985 Birnbaum. I remember the breakfast, but don't believe we ever did the dinner buffet. Perhaps it was gone by 1990, though. The years start to blend together:D !

Yes it might have been Tangaroa Terrace. At one time it was an Italian buffet, then an asian-type of buffet. The restaurant went through many changes. We always enjoyed it's relaxed atmosphere. I really miss the Midori Chicken at The Coral Isle Cafe. Thanks for the memory Spoisal!!
