DS7 (Kaleb) listened tonight and heard the part of the cruise.

I said to DS isn't that exciting, what do you think of that?

He goes "I KNOW we are going"

I said how do you know we are going?

DS says "Oh I know we are going it's the DisUnplugged"

So now DS7 and I are trying to figure out how to save our money!

Darn, another pod event that I won't be able to attend, unless I don't eat or buy anything during my first year of university and probably miss all my first year exams, if i have any. At the rate that I would afford to go on a disney cruise the podcast would have to keep going until about 2015.

you just need to get to writing some emails and calling in some voicemails to better your chances of winning a spot!

Speaking of which...I can't remember - did Pete say that you just have to be signed up for the mailing list to be eligible or is it going to be you have to have a voicemail/email answered on air?

Well, I've lost count of the amount of emails I've written to them and I couldn't quite figure out if the voicemail was toll free outside of the USA, I mean a UK to USA phone call isn't cheap. I think I signed up for the mailing list when it had the password to I think I've got all my bases covered, however, whenever I write an email with something interesting, Pete reads a similar email from someone else, however, as soon as I come up with something different and interesting, I'll be sure to write another!

That would be awesome! The first 2 weeks of May are what I like to consider my 2 weeks of gifts! Starting with my wedding anniversary May 1 and ending with either Mother's Day or my birthday - whichever comes last. Actually May 2009 would be my 10th anniversary hmm...good excuse for a cruise? I may have to start saving & plotting!

DH and I were talking about this - we are doing a cruise in Oct '08 and when I told him we'd have to cruise again in May '09, he starting whining about money - HELLLLOOOOOO - that is why we have credit cards, isn't it??? And May 8th is our anniversary! So, aGoofysMom, you and I can celebrate by anniversarying (with our DH's, of course  - did that come out right? I haven't had coffee yet this morning...)
Do we have to actually bring our kids on the cruise to celebrate Mother's Day during the cruise???? Hard to be anniversarying with them around, don't ya know....

The possible May date was the only thing that created a little dark cloud for me because there's no way we could attend during that time due to our kids' school schedule. I realize though that weather-wise it would be the perfect time to do it...darn it anyway!

I could make it in May of 2009 IF

A) I quit my job as a teacher. You'd better have a bad case of dead to need off in the month of May.

B) I didn't want any more kids. If our plan works out, I'll be pregnant. Kids....Disney cruise....Kids...Disney cruise....that's a toughie! :rotfl2: No really! It is!

and

C) I quit my master's program. I graduate in May of 2009. I don't have to attend the last month of classes do I????

:rotfl:

Here's hoping it won't be the last! I WILL cruise someday!

UrsulasShadow
01-06-2008, 12:53 PM
Hey, don't worry...there will always be other cruises! I also have the month of May as a "no vacation" month (working in a garden center...busiest time of year), with the added constraint of "if I don't WIN a cruise, I don't cruise"...so there's that. Although if I won the cruise, the job thing would be easily overcome.....

tinkerbellblondie19
01-06-2008, 01:26 PM
Yeah, by then I'll be in high school and my brother in middle school. While Middle school teachers can be forgiving (well, 6th and 7th grade. 8th not so much as I have learned) High school teachers are not.

I have a dilemma. I'm single, no SO, and anyone I would ask to come with me on the cruise is either not willing to give up Star Wars Weekends, or is not into Disney (I know, I find it hard to believe :confused3 ) and I wouldn't want them to feel left out while Pod Cast stuff was going on. The last time I shared accommadations(sp?) with people I hadn't previously met, I was 12 and it was summer camp. A single in a cabin might be a tad expensive. Anyone else in the same boat?

I have no idea where I'll be, relationshipwise, in May of 2009, but since I do a lot of solo traveling anyway, there's always a possibility I'll be in need of a roomie, too. Let's see how this year goes. But in any case, there's so MANY solo DISers out there, I'm certain you'll find someone to share!

Awww...I would LOVE to join everyone on a PodSquad cruise! But with our adoption, we don't know for sure when we'll have to travel. At least right now anyway...it's hard to plan further than this coming year. Maybe once plans are announced, i'll revisit the idea. I would LOVE to do this!!

We did a Princess cruise last August and I loved it! DH thought it was alright, but not his favorite thing. And he's not so inclined to do a Disney cruise without kids right now...I dunno...we'll see...

Our school goes all the way to high school. I am very lucky, my boys go there, a friend of mine is the 10th grade teach and she loves it when the families take the kids out at that age, because family time is very important. If you look at the importance and impact it can have on a teen, it is worth it.....but most schools do not look at that way because you have the state tests to teach to.....(OT wont go there)

I just started a PT job there and I put in my contract that I get to take off 2 weeks to go to Disney in Dec., I will have to add a cruise clause in mine. But I do half of my work at home so it is not a big deal to make time up.

TMI for anyone! :thumbsup2

The main issue in my district is that you only get 15 total absences, 10 unexcused, and you cannot pass, even if you have the highest average in the grade. And unexcused absences are anything that isn't a death in the immediate family or illness. And it is just for that wonderful standardized test prep. Gosh, gotta love it.

I think I may have to skip this one since it'll be right before the last module exams for my first year of university. It's also not worth the cost to go for a week from London and I don't want to miss more uni than I have to, I probably wouldn't be able to afford to go on the cruise let alone afford the airfare, my mum would probably say no and I'll hopefully be heading to Florida for the ICP in June/July. I really want to meet you guys, but alas, knowing my luck it won't work. If I managed to win a spot, then I may reconsider but chances are, I won't. :sad1:

Mind you, if the podcast crew wants to do a meet at WDW during the summer months, then I'm good with that!

I really want to go...I'm just not sure that we could swing it! The discounts would have to be pretty significant in order for us to be able to go. We're already saving our pennies for our trip to China. Here's hoping that there will be other meets that I will be able to get to!

Hey Gang

Below is some pricing we are currently getting for this cruise. This is based on the limited number of group space staterooms DCL has allowed us to hold. The more people that book the more staterooms they will let us hold - so if you think you want to go please book soon so we can get more space and lock in the best price.

Something to think about - a small deposit now will secure your space on the ship at the best price possibe. If you find you can't go you can cancel before the final payment is due. We will send out reminders well before the final balance due date so you have time to cancel if you have to.

Also, we will be giving away a number of staterooms on this cruise. I can't give details yet as to how many but you may be lucky enough to win a cruise.

Please keep in mind these prices can change as we sell out of group space and as the ship fills up.

You have to book through Dreams Unlimited Travel (https://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/cruise/calculator/podcast-cruise.cfm)to get these rates and shipboard credits and to be invited to any PodCast events.

Thanks
John

Category 11: $1,362.96 - $50 Shipboard Credit

Based on 4 people per room (2 adults and 2 children ages 6 - 12). Does not include airfare, transfers or trip insurance. Keep in mind pricing will change based on ages of kids:

How about 4 people (2 adults and 1 six-year-old and 1 four-year-old) and we have some friends who are a family of 5 (2 adults and 1 six-year-old and 1 four-year-old and a 1 year old). They probably have to have two cabins, right?

Corey set-up a special page for quotes on this sailing - https://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/cruise/calculator/podcast-cruise.cfm

Remember - you are under no obligation when requesting a quote so go ahead and make a request so you can see the cost. You will have a few days to decide if you want to make the deposit or not.

Parties of 5 will need at least a category 4 stateroom or higher of they can book 2 staterooms.

Random cruise question time:

Is there a Pirate night on the 4 night cruise? Some friends just did a 7 night and said one of their favorite things was Pirate night & that my boys would love it.

Is it just showers in the bathrooms - no tubs?

The stateroom descriptions say "single convertible sofa" - that's single as in one sofa, not single as in the size of the fold out bed, right? Meaning, both my boys will be able to sleep on the sofabed?

Sorry for the questions...This will be my first cruise

Yes, there is a pirate night on the third night of a 4 night cruise.

There are tubs in the bathrooms (except the wheelchair accessible ones).

The sofa folds down into a bed. It is a single as in the size. Only one person can sleep there. With four people in one room, you will also have a bunk above the sofa.

Hope this helps!

Crazy about the sofa bed. How do people not roll right off of those fold-down beds? Guess we'll find out! Gotta make sure my DS who is all over the bed gets the sofa bed or he'll be falling on my other DS all night. :rotfl:

My younger DS would seriously fall off of it, though. He's the type that you go in his room in the morning and have to search his bed to figure out where he is on it - he rolls all over the place.

Neat how the sofa folds down. I couldn't figure out how a full length sofa would only be a twin bed. Now I get it. Thanks!

Well I've requested a quote as my children have assured me they wouldn't mind missing a few days of school. (What a shock, eh?) They'll be a junior and freshman in high school when May '09 rolls around and they'd miss a full week of school...so I guess I'll just talk to their counselors and see if this is do-able!

I think I will be going on the cruise as well. I have been looking for a good excuse to go on my 1st cruise - ever... I travel solo so that is one reason I have been avoiding cruises because of the expense. But I am biting the bullet this time. I received a quote from DU this morning. Just doing to do a little more thinking tonight and most likely will pay the deposit tomorrow.

Looking forward to meeting the Podcast gang - I was unable to attend the meets back in Dec. I love listening to the podcast each week.

So now I am off to do research on Disney Cruises since this is my 1st DCL cruise as well as my 1st cruise.....:cool1: :cool1:

Okay, I know. Obsessive Compulsive. But I've never been diagnosed and it really only applied to Disney. Anyway, I know this cruise is more than a year away BUT the Palo brunch is only on at-sea days and since this is only a 4 night, there is just one at-sea day. I wonder if the Roundtable crew will be doing something during that day so we can all do brunch together? Wouldn't that be a hoot? :lmao: We'd have Kevin's dining review right there in person! Jeez - I hope he likes it!

Hey, Kevin or John or anybody who might really know, what do you think the possibilities of this happening again for 2010?
We try to take a BIG vacation every other year and on the off year just do little trips. We are doing a BIG one in Sept of 2008, so 2009 would be too soon for us. (Esp for a 4 night cruise. It's going to cost a little more than our 7 night at POFQ with bounce back free dining and 7 day PH.) We were already thinking that a 2010 DCL would be a good first cruise for our kids. They'll be 5 & 7 then and will be in the same kids club. So, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it to be with fellow podcasters and my favorite Celebrities! (Ok, you guys do realize that a lot of us would rather meet you guys than Brad or Angelina, don't you?)

Got our quote- def. a big savings over booking direct through DCL. DH *really* wants to do a cruise before next May. I'm trying to get him to hold off for this one, though.

For those of you w/ Disney visas- you can combine the DU stateroom credit w/ the $50 visa credit. Which translates to more mo-gee-tos for us onboard!

DCL does not allow stacking Disney discounts. You can not combine DCL group space with a Disney Visa discount.

The Dreams Unlimited Travel shipboard credit is not considered a DCL discount and can therefore be combined with the group space discount.

This not something that is normally done. Dreams Unlimited Travel does not normally offer a shipboard credit on top of the group space discount.

This is a special offer for those interested in the Podcast Cruise.

Bawb! They already have pineapple mo-gee-toes on the ship. As a matter of fact I had one on my recent Disney Magic Cruise. It was an interesting "mesh" of flavors. At first, I didn't care for it, but it grew on me and it cost like $8.00 so I drank it anyway!! :rotfl:

We still haven't decided if the kids are going. My vote is yes, DH is no. We both agree the oldest should go but are worried about school - the last time we took her out of school for a Disney Cruise for a week, her brain stayed on vacation for an additional week when we got home and she almost failed english that semester. In any case, if she gets to go, she'll be 15 during the cruise. I guess it may be a good thing it will just be DH & myself for the cruise. DS's 10 & 15 will not be going because they will have already missed a few days of school for our November trip. DD will be 16, DS will be 14...so if your oldest goes, she'll have some company. I'm afraid to look at the thread you mentioned...and I certainly hope DD doesn't find it as I wouldn't want her to think there is no supervision onboard.

Go for it! A 4 night is a great cruise to "get your feet wet" and it is great fun to go on a cruise with friends! On our last Disney cruise in March, we had a great Dis meet showing and it was so much fun to see familar faces throughout the cruise - it was like cruising with friends even though we hadn't met before the trip. DH and I were talking about it last night - when we compare our Disney cruises, the ones we had the most fun on are the ones we participated in the Dis meets. For us, it made a big difference to have such a great bunch of people that we were able to leave calling friends. :grouphug:

Phew!! OK, it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I imagined drinking AND sex and drugs. (Yes, I have been watching too much Britney Spears coverage.) :confused3 But still - what were those parents thinking!?!?!

I was a bit relieved as well! Well...here's the good part about both my children going: they love nothing more than ratting each other out. :thumbsup2

I think you'll be safe Tonya!

My kids are both really good, but DD has more of a tendency to ask for forgiveness instead of permission (just little things like going to the friend's house first, and then calling me to ask if it's okay)...whereas little bro draws a line right down the center between right and wrong and won't crossover. It's great -- I never have to lecture DD, because DS takes care of it for me!

We really are a fun family...don't want everyone to think we're a pack of snitches. :goodvibes

My parents are not nearly as excited about disney as I am, so we went to WDW once and they refuse to go back
We went on a DC once and they won't go again

You have to book through Dreams Unlimited Travel (https://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/cruise/calculator/podcast-cruise.cfm)to get these rates and shipboard credits and to be invited to any PodCast events.

Does that mean the reservation has to originate with Dreams? Or can it be made with DCL (online or onboard) and then transferred to you?

Just get dad to tell the kids that mom deserves a break and for Mother's Day the kids and dad are going to give mom a little getaway! This way, they think it was their idea that you go! Problem solved!

Just curious...do most of the people going on the podcruise already know each other from these boards?

I've been lurking Disboards since late fall for our first trip to DW, this past Christmas break. So I'm very new at this and we had such a blast at DW, DH said we could go on a DCL cruise in May 2009. I was so excited that I booked a 3-day one for the first week of May 2009 as soon as we got back. :rotfl: I just listened to our my first podcast and it was pretty cool, and I heard about this podcastcruise. I'm thinking about switching cruises.

Before I look into this further and spend more money moving to a 4-day (and convince DH it'll be a good move), I just want to ensure it'll be a good fit for DH and me. I love Disney but am not Trivia Queen. It seems some folks on these boards go to DW more times in a year than I visit my fridge! We're also travelling without kids. DH is laid back and just likes to relax on vacations. :cool1: Is this cruise kind of like a reunion of sorts for long-timers on the board?

(sorry for the long post!) :goodvibes

Oh you definetly need to change to the podcruise!!!!! I don't know anyone going on the cruise but I have found most DISsers (and Disney fans in general) are very nice and we all have something in common. You might find that the group rate for the 4 day might be the same as the 3 day price (just speculation on my part). And I don't imagine that Pete is a trivia contest kinda guy but if he turns out to plan lots of trivia contests you can always just do your own thing and ignore the DISsers.

UrsulasShadow
01-31-2008, 11:39 PM
Oh, I sincerely doubt there'll be tons of trivia contests! I think there's just gonna be lots of schmoozing and stuff!

I think that because we've been listening to the podcast for a while now, we all feel like we are family (or at least well-acquainted stalkers!). There have been a couple of meets, and some accidental meetings in the parks, but I can't say we know each other outside these boards. Most of us will be meeting for the first time on this cruise. So don't be shy...unless you want to be...and we promise we won't fault you for running away screaming (no, I don't mean you, Will...come back here!).

Anyway, a Disney Cruise is a whole lot of fun BUT not nearly as much fun with a lot of Disney DORKS running around! And a 3 night is no where near as much fun as a 4 night!!! PLUS the 3 night doesn't have the parties that Pete and the crew is throwing! Have we convinced you yet???? :goodvibes

Request a quote! The prices for singles are less than the price for two (but not 1/2). The worse that can happen is you can say it's too much and pass. There is no obligation and I'm happy to send you a quote.

Welcome to the board!!

You can find some info here:
https://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/cruise/podcast-cruise-pricing.cfm

Also, check the thread at the top of this forum (First Ever DIS Podcast Cruise (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1683088)) for lots of info!

I just started listening to the podcast and found out about the cruise. I'm going through this discussion, so I am a little behind, so please forgive me if this has been discussed or is inappropriate. However, I have spent the last 5 months in Europe for business and I got a skype account (internet phone) - really cheap calling to the US AND its free for toll free numbers - so it might help. Alway wanting to enable where I can.

I got my quote about an hour ago, and I am going

I've done some cruises but not Disney. My first Disney cruise is in Febuary, so next year will be the year of the cruises.

Even though you're booking the DIS Unplugged Cruise now, be sure and check into rates for the same cruise while you're onboard in February as they usually offer special incentives if you book a future cruise before you leave the ship. If the rate is lower or there is a great onboard credit offered, just rebook and then transfer it to Dreams Unlimited and have them cancel the first one you booked. Then you'd get any incentives offered by Disney along with any incentives offered by DU. Clear as mud? I'm sure Tracy w/DU can probably explain it better.

Glad you'll be joining us!!!

You know I thought the exact same thing. Actually, I thought crap I wish my cruise was sooner, so I could book on board. I think that will still be before the final cut off (final payment due) so I shouldn't have any trouble. I just wanted to make sure it didn't sell out on me. That would be very, very sad.

The final payments are due February 23. Definitely check your pricing onboard with what you have paid to see if it is better. You can ask if you rebook onboard that you just have the booking placed with Dreams Unlimited Travel at the time you book onboard to save you from having to transfer it when you get back home. Then just email me and I can have the deposits refunded or transfered to the new booking for you.

Did someone say that if you listen to the podcast you may win prizes? How does that work? Newbie DVC owner.

Yes...there have definitely been some wonderful prizes given away to podcast listeners! Your best bet is to submit an email or voicemail to the podcast team (use the link above for the Podcast Main Page) asking a question about WDW, DCL, etc and if one of them picks your submission and plays it during the podcast you automatically win a t-shirt or lanyard. At the end of the month all winners are eligible for a drawing in which one lucky person gets to pick an envelope, and inside will be a great prize -- iPhones, theme park tickets, spa gift certificates, etc. Previously there were also some cruises given away but I honestly don't know what the status is on how many (if any) might be left. You can also get a shot a one of the envelopes by suggesting a new segment idea such as reviewing the WDW golf courses, resorts, recreation options (you know -- that kind of stuff).

In case you didn't know, the DIS Unplugged Podcast suffered a terrible loss at the end of April when Bob Varley (our beloved Bawb!) passed away unexpectedly. He was a regular member of the DIS Unplugged Roundtable and many of us grew to think of him as "family"...so things have been a bit out of sorts lately, but are getting back to normal (or as normal as possible under the circumstances).

So please do yourself a big favor and start listening to the most current podcasts and work your way through the archives as time allows. You will glean some fabulous information about all things Disney and may even when a prize! Good luck. :goodvibes

Welcome Aboard!!! There's a great thread that's a sticky at the top of the DIS Unplugged board with lots of info about the cruise...look through it if you haven't already. Be forewarned though that we tend to go off-topic pretty easy...
