Dh had banned me from booking up all his annual leave by the 1st Jan as he wants to decide where and when we go for a second trip later in the year ( we are already going to wdw in may) he keeps dropping hints like Majorca in August, this does not appeal much to me as we could go to my mums in portugal for a quarter of the price, so if he's thinking of spending that sort of ££ i was thinking of trying Clearwater or nearby for 10 nights in Oct or Nov anyone done this? any recomendations?? we would need at least a 1 bed unit somewhere.

We used to travel around Florida more and have visited Clearwater, Naples, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
I think it works to an extent, I personally wouldn't want more than say 5 days at a beach location.
Clearwater beach is fantastic but 10 days would be too long for us.
I am not sure there would be enough to occupy yourselves, but if you just want to relax then it could be a great holiday.
Cannot recommend accomodation as it's a long time since we visited.

Thanks Johnny, dh is determined to have a beach holiday but i don't think he realises that it won't be as relaxing as it is at my mums as she tends to take ds off our hands for at least half the day! As long as we have a car i know we will be happy just think of all the shopping i could do!!
I'm probably just wishing but i find it doesn't hurt to have researched an idea before putting it to dh!!!

Clearwater Beach is beautiful and if you are in to shopping there are a couple of good malls in the area as well as every restaurant you can think of and then some local ones which are great. I can easily spend a fortnight there - but then I love sunbathing, shopping and eating!!!!:lmao:
I've been in October and its usually lovely then - I think the later you go the more chance you have of a cooler spell - but my family are in Clearwater and generally they do seem to miss some of the colder spells - just in a lucky position I guess??!!

I agree that October would be a good time to go, there is nothing wrong with relaxing and it makes a nice contrast from busy Orlando.
Clearwater is my favourite beach and I like St Pete's too - I just wouldn't (personally) fancy it for 10 days.
However, sat on a lovely beach relaxing , I have to admit there are worse things to do. ;)
If you are into shopping, Miami/Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach are THE places to go and all relatively close to each other.

We did Clearwater for 7 days, 6 days too long for us. My opinion is why trail all the way to Florida for beaches when we have superb ones in Europe, The beaches around the Balaerics are great.
Didn't enjoy having to do the stingray shuffle in Clearwater and watch where my feet were going all the time. Food was a lot more expensive than Orlando and the people were not as friendly.
Others love it, just not our sort of place.

The appeal for us in the past was a change of scenary mainly - to be honest and it's a contradiction in a way but whilst I love Orlando, take away Disney/Universal and all the things we enjoy so much as a city it wouldn't attract me.
Naples for example is a lovely place to go in itself, just that I wouldn't want to spend more than a week there as it is very quiet.
I do see though why a traditional 2 centre Orlando/beach works for people as it used to be what we did every year.
