Anyone else want to join me in a better healthier lifestyle?

Tomorrow (1/2) I will start the South Beach Diet. We have a 10 day Caribbean trip coming up in February and I'd like to lose the weight by then. I have just about 10 lbs to lose.

Here's my info? I'm 5'3 and currently weigh 125 lbs. I just gained 5 lbs in the last couple of weeks. 5 lbs is very obvious on me because I'm so short. I don't just want to lose weight though, I want to get toned up and in good shape.

Anyway, along with doing the SBD I plan on working out each day on our treadmill, elliptical and other gym equipment we have at home.

What are your plans to drop some pounds and become healthier this year???

I am also 5'3" and I weigh about 124. I gained a few pounds over the last few months. As of tomorrow it is back to the treadmill to drop about 10 pounds.

I'm definitely in. I don't have a lot of weight to lose (I'd like to lose about 10-15 lbs) but I want to feel healthier and get more toned. I find the closer I get to 30, the squishier I become.

I'm in!! The only diet I will do is south beach. I lost 30 pounds on it last time. Lots of exercise too. I have been OUT OF CONTROL for about the past 6 months, but no more!!

5'3" here as well and sitting at 124 myself. :sad2:

I need to give myself a start date and an exercise plan.

Not sure of the details but it will have to include eliminating sugar from my diet. That is going to be tough.

Exercise will include daily dog walking at least 2 miles to start and work up to 5 miles. I can do 5 now but I want to start smaller and work up to it.

My problem is committing to that. I can't do it in the morning. It will have to be evening with my 16yodd, we have 2 dogs.

Need some plans....I was down to 108 last spring. Need to get back there.

I'm in...I weigh a teensy bit more than 124 though. :lmao: I have about 40 pounds to lose, I'm not even sure when it got to that point....well actually, I do. This summer I had 25/30 pounds to lose and I ignored it and just kept eating whatever I wanted and here I am. :scared1:

Sooooo, I'm pulling out the WW material I have from the last time I got myself in this sort of pickle. I'd love to have people to be accountable to. How will this work? Will we just post when we feel like it, or will we have a check-in day?

Thanks for starting this thread Shelby! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Everyone on track for today that plans to start today?????? I was so happy to see other people ready to join me!

I'll share some about myself. I went way overboard this holiday, that's for sure. My weight has always been something I've been conscious of, I just can't NOT worry about it. When I got married I weighed 104 lbs, I'd LOVE to be back there again but two kids, a c-section and a hysterectomy later - not sure if that's going to happen.

Last year after my hysterectomy I got down to 112 lbs. I was comfortable with that. I'd say if I can get down to 115 lbs I'd be okay with that as well. But more than anything, I just want to be healthy and in shape. I want to get my stomach back to something that doesn't shake when I laugh like a bowl full of jelly!! It's just horrifying right now.

So, even though I refuse to weigh myself today (after all the salt I had yesterday and the day before) - I am ready to begin. I know about what I weigh so 10 lbs should do it for sure.

I'm so glad you're all joining me!!! Come here and post to celebrate your weight loss or if you're feeling low, come here for encouragement! We can be supportive of each other as we change our lives to be MUCH healthier. We can do this!!!! (I sound pretty perky for someone who couldn't fall asleep until 3am last night) ;)

I hope we all have a great first day. Check in when you can!!!

Don't know Junie, but I am checking in to say I ate my oatmeal with flaxseed. Couldn't get it all down though.
As much as that doesn't sound important, it is for me.:rolleyes1 '

Since I do not have to work today I am off to eat some protein.:thumbsup2

I am not feeling well and have a doc appt today. God I hope he actually helps me.:sad2:

Count me in. I am 5'5'' and have a whopping 75 lbs to lose by around September. I am going to join Weight Watchers and might start taking a diet supplement like Alli.

Hopefully I can do this. And if not 75 than at least 40-50. I have two weddings I want to look good for.

I'm in. I'm more like Junie Jay though and wish I only had 10 pounds to lose. ;)

Is this a structured thing or just a one time thread? I've started well, I had yogurt for breakfast and plan to do so most days. I don't know why but yogurt makes my quirky stomach feel better.

Let's keep this thread going daily so we have a place to check in and such. If that sounds good with everyone!!!

I should have mentioned as well that I have a 10 day Caribbean vacation coming up in mid-February that I want to look good for! We're going with a whole bunch of friends and I don't want to look all flabby and blah. I want to feel as comfortable as humanly possible parading around in bathing suits every day.

I'm off to eat an omelet with low fat cheese and some veggies in it. I'm getting a late start because after dropping my kids off at school I curled up in a shivering little ball in my bed. It's COLD out there.

I'm in and I'm starting on Monday. I want to lose 7lb to 14lb - I currently weigh 130lb and I'm a size 6/8. I would like to weigh 116-123lb and be a stable size 6.

I won't be doing South Beach but I will be simply eating 1400 calories a day, averaged over the week. I find this works because it allows me to eat 1000-1200 calories during every day whilst leaving "spare" calories for nights out at the weekend. Often I don't ever use the "spare" calories but that's just an added bonus :thumbsup2 It also allows me to eat whatever I want - if I want 1400 calories of chocolate a day, I can have it. This way I find that I make the right food choices because I know that high-fat/high-sugar calorie-rich foods don't fill me up - but it does allow me to have foods that I enjoy, still, without feeling guilty (the whole WW principle, I guess).

I'm 23 and a trainee teacher, so little-and-often doesn't work for me. I only have two opportunities to eat during the school day. I eat the majority of my calories at dinner time. I lodge with a couple who cook dinner for me every evening but they are pretty health-concious and they allow me to serve my own portions so that allows me to keep track of my calories.

I also intend to get some form of exercise twice a week - either a 2 mile walk or a 30 minute swim (ideally the latter), on top of my normal activities.

The slimmest I have ever been is 110lb and I looked awful. I actually looked ill, so I think I need those extra 5-10lb just to look like "me". The heaviest I've been is 150lb - NEVER AGAIN :sad2:

My secret is sugar-free jello - you can eat an entire pint for under 100 calories! Not that I could eat an entire pint of jello without exploding but the option's there...

OK...so what do all you South Beachers eat for dinner, I could use some fresh ideas.

We basically live off chicken breasts and steamed veggies. That gets old.:scared:

I do stir fry as well with the leftovers. However we are eating WHITE rice.:sad2:

I cannot get my family to change over so I make rice for myself.

What are the side dishes?

I have about 50# to lose. I'm starting back on the South Beach diet, but not til January 8th. Because my birthday is on the 7th and I want to be able to have a nice dinner.

On the South Beach, you're not limited to chicken. You can still have pork, steak and of course fish. I prefer to oven roast vegis like asparagus and fennel with a little olive oil rather than just steam them all the time. Starchy sides when you're on phase 2 can be brown rice, sweet potatoes, peas. Or just have two vegetables and then fruit after dinner. I get sick of the brown rice really quick.

I'm in, too! I need to lose 15lbs and started on it last week. I'm trying to keep my caloric intake close to 1000 per day. I'm 5'2, so even though that sounds like too few calories, I have to do that in order to lose weight. I also must combine it with rigorous daily exercise. I've cut out white foods including sugar and am focusing on whole grains, fresh fruits (I'm not a veggie girl) and lean meats. This is the combo that works best for me.

OK, well off to stop talking about it and start doing! I'm going to hit the elliptical and then take a shower! Best of luck to everyone today. :thumbsup2

So far so good for me today. I'm doing WW and counting points. I am nursing DD though so I think the "rule" is you get 2 pts per nursing session. I'm giving myself 8 extra pts per day. I nurse more than 4 times but it's not always a full session. I just will make sure I drink plenty of water so as not to affect my milk supply.

I had Kashi oatmeal this morning and some light yogurt just now.

This thread is great! It's nice that we are all on board with losing and getting into better shape. Maybe those of us following specific plans (i.e. WW, South Beach etc) can share recipes, tips etc???

I did not formally join WW this time....I am using the materials I had before and signed up for their e-mails....it really work for me. I do have an incentive though....my brother is getting married in May and I am a bridesmaid....the dress is lovely but it's strapless, 2 pieces and definitely not made for this post-partum body. I definitely don't want to look like the frumpy bridesmaid....I am already the oldest one!!!

count me in too! Last year I lost 18 lbs following a plan that a friend used to lose over 100 lbs. Basically it was no white foods...no sugar, no white flour, white rice, regular pasta etc, nothing processed, only lean meats, whole grains, vegetables, fruit. It worked well and she ran a weekly support group but then stopped having the meetings in June. I gained 14 lbs back between June and December. I found that I really needed those meetings so now I am doing Weight Watchers. I joined WW on 12/12 and have lost 11.2, for a total weight loss so far of 14.6.

I am 5'9" and my heaviest was 167(last year). My goal is to get to 140, but I would be happy anywhere between 140 - 145. I would love some good WW recipes if any one has some to share.

I'd love to join. I joined WW right before Thanksgiving. I wanted to make sure that I didn't gain during the holidays b/c I already have about 45 pounds to lose.

I didn't count points at all during the last two weeks, but I am back on track today. My youngest is starting the toddler program in the preschool today so I will be able to get to the gym again at least 2 days a week. I'm going to shoot for one day on the weekend as well.

I won't post my weight (I'm too embarrassed), but I'll make sure to post my losses (and even my gains if I have a bad week).

Good luck everyone.

What are the side dishes?

When we first start the SBD we don't really have sides other than salad. For dinner we'll have a lean steak broiled, chicken breasts simmered in crushed tomatoes (no sugar) for a few hours and then baked with some lowfat mozzarella cheese on top (just enough to melt the cheese), eggplant parm with low fat mozzarella and low fat ricotta (I do use breadcrumbs but it's not enough for me to worry about carb-wise, roast chicken, stir fry with broccoli and other veggies. I'll also cook very lean ground beef and put taco seasonings in it and then have it with low fat sour cream, diced tomatoes, low fat cheese, etc like a taco - just minus the taco. ;)

Did you ever have the SBD peanut butter cookies? They come in handy when you've been sugar free for a week or so. It's just peanut butter, Splenda and an egg. They're pretty good!

oooh, ooh, I'm in!! :)
5'2 and 130 pounds here. I'd like to drop about 15. I usually wear and 8 or a 10. I have a cute size 8 dress that is too tight. If I drop 15 it should fit nicely for my nephew's wedding which is April 19th.
I LOVE South Beach. Have both the first book and the cookbook (if you're doing SB and don't have the cookbook with the peach-colored cover I highly recommend it!!). But I'm on the Suzanne Somers' diet which technically is supposed to be a way of life, not just a diet. I like it b/c I can eat fattier foods than on South Beach and it's easier for me to stick with. :woohoo: Lost 8 pounds back in Sept. on it but then things fell apart when school got back in full swing.

I'm in. About 10 years ago I dropped 60 lbs, and I gained it back within the last 8 years. So this year is the year. I'm tired of being overweight and I'm tired of my back constantly hurting because of my weight (pre-existing condition that's aggravated by the weight). So here are my stats: I'm 6' and 260 lbs. The method I use for losing weight is eating healthier (which I do already) and working out. I've already started, I've cut down on the soda's and I drink a lot of water and I'm eating oatmeal in the mornings. I've also started going back to the gym. Just a couple of weeks and it'll be a habit. I'm not going to set a weight goal, but I would like to be considerably lighter by summer.

CapeCodTenor - Well, one thing is since you lost the weight before you KNOW you can do it again!! Be encouraged!!!

Today went fine for me, here's what I ate.

Brunch: omelet with low fat cheeses
Snack - walnuts
Dinner - chicken cooked in crushed tomatoes w/ low fat mozzarella cheese on top

I should have eaten more but got a late start this morning. I'll do better with that tomorrow. I'm also headed out tomorrow to get all the stuff my hubby and myself need to do the SBD, phase 1.

I have a new goal, not sure how realistic it is though. :rolleyes1 I was at my parent's house today and I saw my wedding dress all boxed up in their basement. It had flooded awhile ago and the box showed some signs of water damage. I decided to open it up and see what condition it was in. Turns out it's in perfect condition, brought back lots of memories. So, anyway, my point is - my goal is to fit in that dress again. Not sure if it's a real possibility but I'm going to give it my best shot!!

How was everyone else's day today!?!??!

I'm in as well!!!! I reached lifetime status with WW a couple of months ago. The holidays killed me!!!:scared1: I gained about 3-4 pounds back(not too bad considering all the junk I ate!!!). I am 5' 7" and weigh about 138 pounds(well within my weight range, but just want to lose those stubborn pounds that I gained over the holidays). I felt much better around 135. I know I can do it if I just stop eating all the sweets that are leftover from the holidays. Anyone else out there have a terrible sweet tooth as well???:confused3 I did 45 minutes of Walk Away the Pounds this morning, plus 30 minutes of pilates/weights combined. I am getting ready to go take my shower and have my daily bowl of oatmeal!!! Any motivation would be great for me!!!! I sure need it!!!

Alright here I am on day 2 of my new diet. Have yet to start exercising since it is really cold out and I prefer to take long walks. My apt is just too small for me to do aerobics and I am not sure my downstairs neighbors would like me doing aerobics or anything like that since it would sound like water buffalo dancing. :lmao:

Here is my meal plan for today:

Breakfast: 1 cup of Special K with half a cup of 2% milk. I cannot stand fat free milk.

Midmorning snack: 1/2 can of diet shake with a Special K cereal bar

Lunch: Lean Cuisine Chicken Chow Mein, Jello sugar fee jello and fresh pineapple.

Afternoon snack: Other half of diet shake and a pack of Quaker Granola bites

Dinner: Steamed salmon with basalmic roasted veggies over cheese ravioli.

Dessert: Peach sorbet. Will most likely only have a couple spoonfuls.

Depending on the weather when I get out of work this afternoon I may go for a walk around my neighborhood. I don't mind the cold weather...it's the wind that is killer. Or I could pull out the yoga pants and hit the very small exercise room in my complex.

Lunch
1 cup tomato soup
1 clementine
Snack
rice cake with 1 tsp peanut butter

Today I made this
Portobello and Spinach flatbread w Goat Cheese

I can buy premade dough from a local restaurant but in a snap you can make your own dough or use pillsbury in the tin.
I usually get a whole wheat dough
I take about 1/3 of the dough and roll it out as thin as possible.
I'm trying to lose weight so I am going light on the cheese. I use about
1/2 ounce Parmagiano reggiano
1/2 ounce pecornio
1/2 ounce of 1% mozzarella
1/2 to 1 oz of goat cheese.
sprinkle all cheese on dough
add 2 cloved minced garlic
then top with
3 basil leafs, chopped(dry can be used)
1/2 c chopped spinach (app.)
1 sliced plum tomato
2 sliced portobello mushrooms

Shelby and all-

I'm going to move this thread to the W.I.S.H. (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy) forum, where you'll find LOTS of kindred spirits and lots of support in your weight loss journey.

On W.I.S.H., you'll find lots of people on different healthy eating and fitness plans. Give support, share ideas, get a little inspiration on those days you're tempted to quit... it's a great place!

I think I will start off the day with my daily meal plan.

Breakfast: Wheat Chex with 2% milk

Midmorning Snack: Cereal bar and half a can of diet shake

Lunch: Lean Cuisine Chicken something or another, sugar free jello and pineapple

Afternoon snack: Granola Bites and perhaps more diet shake or some Special K protein water

Dinner: Leftovers from yesterdays dinner

Dessert: Cocoa merengue(sp?) cookies, they are fat and gluten free. I only eat about 7 or 8...a serving is 16 since they are small.

Today is basically a repeat of yesterday. Saturday will be interesting since I start on a 4 Saturday tax preparation course. I may splurge a bit since it's the weekend.

Now I have to get motivated to start exercising. Anyone know any good exercises for an office setting? Like ones to do while sitting at your desk?

Thanks, WebmasterKathy!! Sorry about that!!!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Things are fine here on day 3! I won't be weighing myself for a few weeks though. I go to the oncologist on 1/15 and they will weigh me when I get there. (oh joy) So, I'll just hold off until then.

I need to get started with the exercise as well, I started to go the other day and got sidetracked by 15 different things. (cleaning and all) So, I think I'll start tomorrow, no school, I don't have to get anyone up and out the door. I'll just get the kiddies their breakfast and then work out!:thumbsup2

I kept looking over on the Family board(I think that's where I first posted). So glad i decided to take a peek over here!!;^)

I'm doing great! My 1 week weigh-in is tomorrow, but I cheated and weighed myself today because I couldn't wait to see results(7 lbs!!!!!!)
I'm trying a different approach to losing weight this time. I'm using 3 HMR shakes a day (Health Management Resources)plus 5-6 servings everyday of fruit and veggies and a dinner which has consisted of 1 weight watchers entree with added veggies and added protien .These shakes are filled with fruit and taste AWESOME! I feel like I'm cheating with a strwberry shake!
I think this works for me because the shakes make me feel VERY full and they're sweet. My plan is to continue with the shakes for 3 months(3 a day and 1 meal)and then scale it down to 2 a day and then 1 shake a day. The shakes are meal replacements and right now I need to get under control!
As far as exercise,my job(owner of a dog daycare, www.chancetorun.com) is ALL about exercise! I'm outside 10 hours Mon-Fri walking a 3/4 acre lot with dogs. I keep them moving and it keeps me moving!
Good luck everybody!!!

Started a new job today. Felt too sick with nerves to eat anything yesterday so I only ate a slice of pizza, half a bowl of leek and potato soup and two tiny cookies.

Today I've eaten a handful of grapes, a cheese pannini (it was the only kind that didn't contain mayo!)...don't plan on eating anything/much before dinner so that should be okay and then no snacking after dinner because I won't be done til 8pm and it's bed at 11 for me now :sad2:

Cheese paninis are not ideal; but I ate it at 1.30pm, refused cookies at the staff meeting today and it's 5.30pm now and I'm not feeling especially hungry :confused3
