Going 9/28-10/6. We (me, DW and our 3 kids) have stayed at the Poly. We are now taking my parents. Dad is going to be in a wheelchair most of the time. We are currently contemplating either POR or AKL standard. The price difference on the rooms, with discounts are going to be about $34 a night.

My dad will most likely feel the need to stay at the resort for most of the trip. My mom will join us in the parks but not all the time.

Will my dad have the opportunity to enjoy the sights at AKL from a standard room. He may not want to go out into the lobby when he is alone.

No contest. If that is the rate difference, AKL will be perfect. Besides the lobby, there are lovely outdoor areas, viewing areas, the pool, lounges. Plus, the interior corridors of the resort will be easier to negotiate in a wheelchair than the exterior corridors, walkways and bridges of POR.

AKL is beautiful. We had a standard room there for one night in November, it was very nice. There are very nice gathering places there, smaller areas than the lobby right off the lobby, that are perfect for hanging out, animal viewing, etc..

Thanks teri,

By the way, I have a tough time attaching my bungee to a reality check. Seems my reality check seems to bounce:bounce:

Does your father need an accessible bathroom with roll-in shower? If yes, then be aware that AKL standard rooms are tiny!!! The accessible standard rooms (that have a roll-in shower) at AKL have a large bathroom, but the rest of the room is very small! Very hard to maneuver a wheelchair there. I went to AKL with my friend who uses a power wheelchair and she kept crashing into the furniture!! If you are getting a regular room, then maneuvering will be much easier.

In your message, did you ask if your dad can enjoy the sights from a standard room? The views from a standard room are not real great - we had a view of the valet parking lot. But we would go to spots around the pool and Arusha Rock to see the animals. AKL was very wheelchair friendly :)
